With the caveats that both of them had their moments that could be improved upon (though I blame the writing for most of that), it is actually extraordinary that Kits first time leading a project and joes first professional acting ever was Heartstopper. Even with a good script, great supporting cast, and impeccable directing, their performances would’ve been impressive. But considering that while euros was good, they were both carrying the shit out of a weak script and overall weak side acting (obvious exceptions aside), it’s close to miraculous. They are such phenomenal talents.

And in joes case especially, it really shows how important open casting calls are, especially to draw in diverse talent who aren’t from high income backgrounds.

I don’t really hate bash for being in season 2, and frankly think Ben just vanishing after s1 made no sense. But as someone who used to like him, even before I thought he was a dick, I always said drawing him out past s2 would’ve dumb and just plugging in a villain for multiple seasons for no reason. I think he needs to be around this season to make his longer term impacts on Charlie clearer since it comes up in therapy, and I guess to have his solitaire plot line with imogen. After that he can go.

If joe has to film the solitaire attack scenes and scenes of Ben being a dick to Charlie in s3 with bash acting t how he is, they’re making the set really shitty for him without much plot benefit, imo

I didn't mind him in S2 either, though S1 did a good job at finishing his story in a good way without the need for Solitaire. He decided to come out while he was in bed scrolling through Twitter after a long day of shooting the show. He sent out the tweet, deleted the app, and went back to sleep. Woke up the next morning wondering what he'd done. In his head, he just wanted the speculation to stop and hadn't thought about the reaction. The harassment about his sexuality got so bad that people were reaching out to his family and people he's close to to find out what he identified as. When he sent out the tweet, he was only out to close friends and his inner circle so a lot of people in his life found out from the tweet, "which made coming out more interesting." Famous people reached out to him privately to show support, but he says he doesn't want to namedrop when the interviewer asks for names. The positive reaction "gave him a lot of hope for mankind." He's not anxious about being limited by the "queer actor" label, says he wants to play roles that are "interesting and challenging" whether they're queer or straight.

Bash has great hair and is capable of looking really sweet and innocent. I think that shortness in early shoots combined with his fangirling about HS made it easy to believe he was a great boyfriend.
