Both movies sound very straight but HTDBW seems more fun because of its cast and that Bash said it’s a bit Fleabag-style.

Kit is a great actor and makes boring boyfriends likable which says a lot, as they’re usually the let down of most romcoms or teen romance shows. But between it being a truly terrible book with an unlikable protagonist and Maia not being a powerhouse actor I have my doubts. Charithra is a pretty good actress and the really strong comedy supporting cast makes me optimistic

The straight love triangle thing is one of my least favourite tropes ever, throw in the BFF element that was already old 4 decades ago (see Pretty in Pink) and it's even more boring. I'm going to be honest, I'm not going to end up watching either of the movies.

R4 I am not sure about Billy Walsh it has gone from “soon” to “later this year” which of course could both mean the same thing. It sounds like they have a release slot nailed down I had previously thought July and a summer release for a romcom sounds about right so I will stick with that

R73 I think part of it is Charlie is actually not that great of a character in the show or fans don't really love him nearly as much as they love Nick. Homophobia is part of it, but show watchers just love Nick a lot more than Charlie and are more interested in him and therefore Kit. I try not to think too much about the character flaws because I'd probably end up hating all of the semi-developed characters. Elle was wrong for confirming to Tao that Nick and Charlie were dating and therefore outing Nick to him, Tao is borderline controlling with his abandonment issues, Nick's insecurities manifest in ways that have occasionally hurt other people, and so on. I think it's because they're so one-dimensional overall that flaws that are normal in people and characters manifest in an almost jarring way, if that makes sense.

It's insane to me that Kit has gained 4x that of Joe (I know this was discussed at length so not opening that up again) just- insane.

Kit gaining more in one day than Joe did all week is certainly something. I'm never going to understand the lack of interest in Joe compared to Kit at all when they are both equally as important to the show and they are being promoted as a pair.

I don't wanna make myself sound like a Kit stan here (I love both Kit and Joe and don't really have a 'preference'), but while I think they're both great actors and equally talented, I sort of think that Kit's appeal goes way beyond Heartstopper. It's hard to explain but he's just one of those rare people that has - sorry to quote Simon Cowell - star quality. There's just something special about him that sets him apart and really draws people in. It's nothing to do with talent per se, as I think Joe is equally as good an actor and obviously has a great career in front of him. Kit just has an undefinable quality that's hard to put into words.

I also think him coming out on Twitter gave him a pretty huge reach and widespread awareness, and also warmed so many people to him. The amount of likes on that tweet were insane, and there's no way that was mostly just Heartstopper fans.

Obviously, his good looks and abs also help, lol. And yes, as some people have said, there will be an element of homophobia there. But it's clearly a mix of multiple things.

I'm gay but for instance I see Zendaya's it factor, which is separate from her acting performance for me. I think often people with "It factor" get by on their magnetism, which ideally but not always is combined with acting talent. I think Kit has very low "it factor" to me (he doesn't make me want to buy the clothes he wears, follow his news or campaigns), but he is very talented and quite likable, so I'm still rooting for him. Just still cannot explain how he is SO much more popular than his costar (and while I adore Joe, he also doesn't scream "it factor" to me, just a similar thing of very talented actor with a lot of potential and likability).

Regarding the Kit/Joe followers divide, I’m going to throw out an entirely different opinion. To begin with, I should say I’m a much bigger fan of Joe than Kit. I think they’re both extremely talented actors with very long successful careers ahead of them. I just personally prefer Joe. And I don’t think he wants to be famous.

Being an actor and being a celebrity are two very different jobs. Joe loves acting, and seems to care far less about his celebrity status. IG follower numbers are pretty meaningless unless you’re a social media influencer who is posting paid brand deals. Which I highly doubt Joe will ever do.

Several Marvel stars (Elizabeth Olson, Kathryn Hann, Benedict Cumberbatch, etc) don’t have any social media presence at all. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Joe deleted his IG account completely in a few years. And I definitely don’t think he cares if Kit has more followers.

Kit goes to a lot more public red carpet events. He posts more on social media. He’s been acting for over a decade and understands what is required to be not just an actor but also a celebrity.

I don't know if Joe will be on social media long enough to post about them, but I fully expect him to get on the brand deal train eventually. Just as an example, all of the Marvel stars that you've pointed out for not having social media all have multiple brand deals (Cumberbatch most recently as a Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador, Olsen as a Missha ambassador, Hahn with HubSpot). It'd be harder to name an actor without a brand deal. It's part of the game. Unless you reach a rarified level of fame, you have to keep your face out there if you want to continue being viable as an actor.

Between pushing off Charlie’s mental health issues and the Tao Elle kiss Alice/Netflix is REALLY stretching this out. I like Nick and Kit did a fantastic job with him but two seasons in a row of figuring out sexuality and coming out storylines being the central plot is a little unnecessary

You have the continued thread from the last season, which of course was never going to be dropped entirely (Nick's coming out), while Charlie's mental health issues are building up and becoming more apparent to the audience and to Nick at the same time. She's also pretty clear on the overlap in their story (Charlie being a support system to Nick, Nick picking up on Charlie's problems). Wouldn't be surprised if the season ends with Charlie talking to his parents, but also not sure if it would end on such a dark note. Idk.

I will say it’s fairly funny that the conclusion (from show fans, he was definitely made this way in the comics) is that NICK is the supportive ideal boyfriend when in the show it was in S1, and sounds again in S2, definitely Charlie. Never mad or pushy about Nick not wanting to come out, instantly forgave him everything, not mad that Nick wouldn’t help him up after the rugby incident, not mad that Nick agreed to a date with Imogen, and now continuing to be supportive and nice about Nick continuing to agonize over coming out. In the comics there wasn’t all of this, so it is different, but the takeaway of the show being that Nick is the guy everyone should want as a partner is a bit funny

We did get a video last week where Joe said that Charlie goes on "more of a journey this season" and that his story is "a bit more mature." I think it'll be fine and I'm still thinking Alice's issues were with the Isaac stuff. She's not mentioning it as much since they wrapped up post and he wasn't mentioned in the season's synopsis.

In a sense, season 1 was very Charlie-centric in the beginning then ended up with Nick’s arc of his coming out. I still don’t know why they’re dragging the storyline so much and adding a bunch of new storylines. They could have easily made season 2 about book 3 & 4 and season 3 about book 5 (and possibly 6). They must really be confident they’ll be greenlit for a fourth season.

It’s very hard to tell from just one brief interview, but I will honestly roll my eyes if the central tension of S2 is once again being afraid to come out when that was also the central tension of S1. I have wondered whether much of the instability and nasty spirals that occur in this, and probably other online fandom groups, is down to the incredibly high number of autistic and seriously damaged, mentally ill people who gravitate to each other then feed on one another’s delusions and paranoia.
