Only 19 minutes?

Attitude naming Will under "queer stars" in this post and him liking it.

This goes back into production for the next season in September. Wonder if Oseman will pump out enough scripts to shoot both seasons one after the other or if they’ll have a gap in between.

It shouldn't be too hard when each episode is only twenty minutes long.

I wonder if Yaz is trying to distance herself from the show a bit or something? She didn’t (that we know of anyway) meet up with Joe and Bash in Paris and only saw Kit there when they were at the same show, didn’t go to Pride with the cast and posted pictures on her story of herself of an event she’d attended the day before instead, only promoted the Pride TV event with Joe Lycett yesterday via a video of her getting her makeup touched up while there, and from fan photos and even videos they took, seemed not to hang out with the other three at the after party or at the event aside from the moments shown onscreen. I don’t think she’s had a falling out with anyone specific or anything but it’s odd that she’s so distant from her first big project already.

I've decided that Yaz is avoiding Bash (and his consorts) due to his unfollowing of the new Doctor Who.

That would be so odd, especially since the rest of the cast has always been so supportive of her. Hope it’s not a case of her thinking she’s too good for the show and the rest of the cast after booking Doctor Who.

Why is DL completely taken over be threads about this show and fangirling over its stars? Isn’t there some Heartstopper forum you can go join? It’s really not that interesting:

R12 She liked Kit's tweet praising Bash and Joe at London Pride so I doubt it.

Bash and Ncuti starred in Horrible Histories together and hung out at an event on April 21 (photo below with David Carlyle), Bash congratulated Ncuti on being the new Doctor Who and liked posts about it. They don't seem that close so I don't have a guess on what drama could've happened lol.

Yaz seems to have lived a very different life from the others before the show. She was an influencer and already invited to events (I believe she was in a makeup campaign before the show ever came out), so very different from Joe’s small town upbringing, but wasn’t a rich kid child actor like Bash or Kit. She mentioned yesterday on the Pride event that her first Pride was when she was 14, using a fake ID to try to get in, and she said she tried to “find herself” on the club scene as a teenager. I can’t exactly imagine Will or Kit doing that and I highly doubt Joe even had a chance on the Isle of Man. I think she is honestly a little full of herself from social media posts but seems to get on with everyone else well and is pretty close to Joe and Kizzy - I think she’s just very different from them and is enjoying newfound fame in a different way than they are.

That said she should probably make an effort to attend or at least boost the achievements of her other castmates as well just for her own sake, to avoid people speculating there’s drama. Skipping Pride with them by itself isn’t a big deal but if she for instance doesn’t bother to go see Will and Joe in their play I think fans will start to get upset. I honestly don’t really care as I don’t think castmates need to be particularly close, it’s just a job. But the younger fanbase is really invested in the idea that they’re all best friends and the others hyping her up constantly while she skips events and doesn’t do the same back will probably piss them off

R17 Ncuti is the new Doctor beyond just the special. I think Yaz is a question mark on that front. People were speculating that she’s his new companion but that was never confirmed and might not even work out if Heartstopper has her in first position.

Russell T Davies (returning DW showrunner) knows Bash and comments/likes his stuff all the time. He posted a selfie with Bash and Joe a while back:

I think Yaz has RBF or a similar energy. It's notable in Tobie's vlogs. She clearly got along well during filming but she's not grinning every second, like some of the more puppyish cast members (Tobie, Korinna etc.)

R16 I honestly think it could be as simple as Bash hyping Ncuti up on social media once he got the role, realizing Ncuti didn’t follow him on IG (either unfollowed him at some point or never followed him back), and simply unfollowing in return. If Joe is loyal enough to unfollow Matthew Lopez because he and Connor had some unknown falling out, I’m sure he’d be loyal enough to his actual boyfriend to stop following Ncuti if there was actually an issue between him and Bash. He and Ncuti still follow one another though and he still likes his posts, which is why I think it’s something pretty low stakes

Do you guys think Kizzy and Corinna are less out there because of personal preference or because of less opportunities than the others? I assume Bash would be around their level of press opportunities if Joe wasn’t dragging him everywhere (lesser character than theirs but came into the show with a higher profile, so it would balance out a bit).

Yes he's a BAFTA nominee for his role in Horrible Histories. He's been working in the West End for years, he played Oliver Twist in Sam Mendes' production of Oliver and Gavroche in Les Mis. His first TV role was young Ned Stark on Game of Thrones.

Fewer opportunities, I'd say. They've both done the Rain podcast. The host mentioned that Bash's reps didn't grant an interview.

R35 less opportunity overall. It looks like both have done all the podcasts etc that have reached out to them. Originally it seems the show was balancing between pitching them, Joe, and Kit as the main 4 and Joe, Kit, Yaz, and Will as the main 4 (Gay Times v. Attitude for example) but seems like most opportunities that have been offered are to the Joe, Kit, Yaz, Will group. Kizzy and Corinna are definitely grouped in with the more minor actors. Even looking at IG followings they're at 530k and 780k followers - Tobie is beating Corinna out and she's right within striking range of Jenny and Rhea who play much more minor characters. Tobie helped distinguish himself by making the vlogs which endeared him to the fans.

Bash has been helped out by being with Joe but also really engaged the most with fans from day 1 and had probably the most invested fans coming into the show. Also the fanbase definitely has a lot of queer people but like most teen shows, also a lot of straight teen girls. They think Bash is hot, so he's just going to get a lot of followers based on that alone.

R41 I can’t say I’m surprised his reps turned down the interview as The Permanent Rain Press people have mentioned trying to get an interview too, I wonder why he’s not doing any other that the Gaby Roslin one he did. He seems to be the biggest fan and supporter of the show of all of them but has done the least interviews.

I presume Bash hadn't done much because he's not a newcome nor is he the lead. His reps probably only want relatively high profile promo to come his way, like Gaby Roslin's radio show.

R46 He does a lot for how unimportant his character is. And his promo isn't exactly high profile sometimes, though truthfully I don't think Bash would be doing some of those events if he weren't following around Joe.

R44 his interviews and features have all been bigger. My guess is twofold: first, they want him to be taken more seriously and have more legitimacy than just doing small fan type podcasts. He’s gotten magazine features and covers even with how small his role is, and Gaby Roslin is well known over here so her being his one podcast makes sense. Second, because his role is so small there’s only so much he can say on it really. If he did a 45 minute permanent rain podcast spot I don’t think he’d have much more to independently contribute to other interviews.

Bash also did Gaby's radio show, a short separate interview to the podcast.

His team may also be reticent to allow him to do too many interviews because of the sexuality question. He clearly doesn't want to pretend to be str8 and the more he talks about wishing he'd had a show like Heartstopper when he was in school... I still think there was some sort of damage control involved with one of Will's heavily edited podast interviews.

Bash also got featured on Storm Models socials for the first time after Paris fashion week. He’s been with them a while as his bio In their page mentions he’s filming HS, so early 21 at least. I know people think he was only there because I’d Joe and that is probably the case with Dior but I think he was invited himself to Ami.

I think of all the interviews the cast have done, the permanent rain press ones have been the best. The interviewer is really good at what they do. It’s also nice to get to know the rest of the cast more but as you say, they’re only so much they can talk about and the interviews are getting repetitive.

I wonder if re interviews, there was also some uncertainty about Ben’s future in the show. I think by now it’s fairly apparent he’s almost certainly going to be back for S2 (how excited he was over the renewal, still going to all the cast events, a comment he made about not being able to match push-ups with Kit in season 2, and the photo showing he went with Joe to the producer’s office) but that technically wasn’t announced yet and may not have been decided originally. I don’t think they fully anticipated how popular Bash was going to be; he has more IG followers than even Yaz and is definitely along with Tobie the most interactive with fans. All the others were certainly going to be back for season 2 (his was the only character written out of the comics) so they could easily answer questions about what they were excited for in future seasons but he couldn’t really.

A Ben and Harry hookup in season 2 would be funny. But Asexual Alice won't allow it 🚫

R55 I'm sure he'll be back though I hope they give him more to do than he freaks out about being outed when he wasn't going to be, beats up Charlie and gets his ass beat. The scene of Charlie telling him to be honest with himself was already in the show, so not sure it needs to be repeated with the added violence. Unsure what his character would do. Probably just be a nuisance to everyone. How Bash played Ben he was more sympathetic than actual psychopath Ben in the story so there is room though.

Solitaire was a really awful book in general. Alice gonna have to do a lot work to fix that mess if anything is in S2.

Maybe they'll give Ben an eating disorder and he'll meet Charlie again when they're both undergoing inpatient care.

My guess is they’ll tweak things and move characters around in S2 to accommodate parts of the Solitaire storyline and then expand that intoS3. Agree it needs heavy editing as it’s just not good. In the solitaire book, one plot point is Ben dating Tori’s best friend and Charlie being concerned about it but not saying anything as he doesn’t want to out him. (Ben being afraid Charlie is going to out him to Tori is the catalyst for the beating up scene in r57)

My guess is they might just cut the best friend and have Ben date Imogen. She’s invented for the show so has no book storylines to take over, and they purposefully have her be close to Ben, sharing an umbrella etc during the rugby scene. Same source of conflict - “how do we warn Imogen off him without outing him” - could then happen on the Paris trip without needing to write in Tori’s friend, and they could drag out the drama a little longer as it’s much more likely Charlie and Nick would see Ben if he’s dating nick’s good friend than if he’s just dating Charlie’s sister’s friend.

If they can’t write something decent for the character I hope they don’t shoehorn the actor in just because he gets retweets or whatever. His character isn’t particularly compelling or interesting (oh no, not another closeted bully homophobe!). Actor is bland as well.

I found that both Joe and Bash are the standouts in Tobie’s vlogs. They come off (in my opinion at least) the most likable and charming. Plus while Bash is generally photogenic anyway Joe really looks better on screen than in photos. I know they weren’t meant to be the focus of the vlogs but from the snippets Tobie showed of them they had a lot of visceral chemistry with one another and the speed at which they entered into a relationship (photographed holding hands and cuddling a month into filming) made more sense after seeing them interact on video. There’s a reason the clips of them together were the most discussed part of the videos

In the comic the two male teachers who accompany the kids on their trip to Paris get together…. I suppose Connor could play one of them. Not much of a role for him.

R89 He can’t. One of the teachers is Black and already cast (the teacher that helps Charlie at school) and the other is Arab. Connor doesn’t fit either part.

R89 I think that one of the teachers is already cast (Mr. Ajayi, the black teacher charlie talks to s1) and the other is meant to be middle eastern. I suspect they’re not going to recast as a white guy, they’d probably get massacred online for it especially as people think they’re probably cutting their Muslim female minor character and replacing her with Imogen who is white. My guess is if Connor is in the show it’s as Nick’s brother or a new character.

Bash has really good management and has been around for a bit, he even attended London fashion week and a bunch of events before HS was out.

I think Bash wouldn’t be the “automatic entry” he is as a result of dating Joe but he’d probably still make the list of people they’d consider inviting. He still has a good size following, is very charismatic and willing to do promo (dior featured him prominently in their video about the show and he opened it), and clearly enjoys and can pull off a lot of fashion. Them being together makes it an easy in for him but he’s not a hard sell for these events

R114 His family is well-off enough that he could pay his way into events like Wimbledon, but there’s a 0% chance he would have been front row at Dior without Joe. Joe’s the one getting fashion week features in major publications, not Bash. The people getting the major invites are Joe, Kit, and Yaz.

I'm glad Heartstopper isn't a live soap opera, otherwise Bash might food poison Joe and take his place, a la Joan Crawford.

R118 Front row at Dior Homme this year was a mess though, it was a bunch of French influencers with less than 100k followers and few actual celebs (David Beckham, Justin Timberlake). It isn’t difficult to be row at PFW.
