R2, I came here to type the name "Kevin Sessums." There have been regular threads posted about him here for years. No idea who this is. I googled his name years ago and still can't remember. He's not famous and I've never encountered his name in real life or anywhere outside of DL. There are other names like this but "Kevin Sessums" is the king of obscure DL obsessions.

With a lot of these I just assume there is one or maybe a tiny handful of people starting those threads and following them endlessly. It's so weird.

Posters breathlessly reporting which teenager followed which account in realtime, which castmember wished another happy birthday, borrowed a jumper, went to the market, etc ad aeternum. Granted it's apparently a handful of hyper-stan UK people populating thread after thread, but wow it is...persistent. I enjoyed the series, but just not quite enough to adopt it as a religion.

When I first came here DL was at the tail end of the hilarious Larries phenomenon, soon to be moving into its inexplicably enduring Connor Jessup & his unremarkable skinny boyfriend phase. There are niche interests - like broadway, soaps, tennis, the Royals, and popular personalities past and present from Crawford to Mendes that are all part of the larger culture. Then there are DL specific topics - BILL TAYLOR, Let’s be a…, Frau life, Greg love / hate - that are part of our specific zeitgeist. These all make sense, even though they don’t appeal to everyone. The ones that puzzle me are the narrow obsessive - the nose troll, gap playlist guy, ed-win stuff, Sessums & Froy among them. I always just scroll past these. I spend a good amount of time here, and find it funny and interesting, but it’s hard to fathom singular individuals constantly typing their obsessions into a void that largely ignores them.

A search shows almost 2 dozen threads on Kevin Sessums. Click on any started more than a month ago and it's likely "thread closed," or "not found," meaning Muriel deleted them. Of the ones still active, none has more than 80 posts and most have less than 20. The majority of posts are people asking "who is Kevin Sessums?" or something similar.

Creepy.

Notice not one person on this thread has admitted to following the Kevin Sessums threads, argued for his relevance, or defended the topic of Kevin Sessums. All signs point to the Kevin Sessums threads being the work of one or a very small handful of posters.

Most of these threads are framed negatively, with the majority of posts (from posters who actually know who he is) echoing that tone. I think there are multiple trolls but a small number of them, with at least one of them being a KS hater. It could be two people total, KS himself and one very angry KS hater.

We had to read The Miracle Worker in 9th grade English class and watched the movie, also. The version we watched was with Patty Duke. That's when I first learned of her. I thought she did a good job playing Helen Keller for being a kid at the time. This was in the early 00s. I'm pretty sure a lot of my peers' English classes had to read that play and/or watch the movie in school.

I have never seen even one episode of Knot's Landing, Melrose Place, or Gilmore Girls, but they seem to have a lot of fans to this day.
