How did the "I'm from North" threads and posting start?

It just started one day. If I recall it was something simple like, "Is anyone here from North?"

It wasn't sexual at first, but it has always been stupid.

All I know is that I’m from East.

The first time I think I saw it was in reference to Colton Haynes; someone kept saying they fucked his ass "in North" and his hole was cold inside

I've always recalled these posts having the style and cadence of an old Craigslist M4M listing. Usually the word "looking" is used, which is not overtly sexual, but obviously so given the context of the rest of the post. The North troll is always "looking."

We would occasionally get posts here from newcomers trying to use DL as a hookup site, which is ridiculous of course. There's no way to verify locations and we're clearly not all in the same city or region.

I think the original "North" troll started by mimicking those posts, and chose "North" as an inside joke referencing the sort of clueless newbies who pop up here thinking everyone is somehow "local."

Can’t someone at least make an effort to explain? Surely there’s a “Ground Zero” for this? The original post?

The North troll is not the PBMT troll. They're totally different trolls. There are many parodies, but the real PBMT seems to have stopped posting here years ago. PBMT was an Asian student, either in Asia or somewhere else as an exchange student. They were fixated on their "program" and various young men in their "program." While they were obsessed with men and their looks, they never posted about casual sex, hooking up, or "looking." The only common thread I see between them and the North troll is an autistic style of posting, but I'm pretty sure we have more than one autistic posti g here.

English is incredibly difficult for a native North speaker. Most of them are fluent in Hungarian, for obvious reasons.

DL archivist here aka one of the Mein Fuhrer posters. I'll explain the "from North" posts in three posts. Note I am not the from North troll, though I do often respond to his posts with "Hi, from North troll".

First, there is a Tumblr poster (@scarletbeastboy) who posts about "Twinks, jocks, athletes and all kind of cute guys". His blog on Tumblr describes him as a "Gay guy from North". See link below. He goes by the same name on Twitter and has the following on Twitter:

They do originate from an actual Tumblr poster who describes himself as being a "Gay guy from North" who posted about Alam Wernik on Tumblr about a year before the first DL from North posts. The Tumblr guy and the DL from North troll may be the same guy, although that is not definitive.

Alas knowing the truth removes the mystery.
