Is Janet Jackson not on the list again? Isn't she still trying to get in but nobody ever votes for her?

by Anonymousreply 1February 1, 2023 1:48 PM

She was inducted in 2019 r1.

by Anonymousreply 2February 1, 2023 1:59 PM

Why are Joy Division and New Order lumped together?

by Anonymousreply 3February 1, 2023 2:02 PM

You tried it, bitch.

No Connie Francis?

by Anonymousreply 5February 1, 2023 2:06 PM

Joy Division and New Order are grouped together R3 because they are essentially the same bband. Joy Division members disbanded after the suicide of their lead singer Ian Curtis, later the members of Joy division decided to form New Order and added Gillian Gilberts on keyboards.

by Anonymousreply 6February 1, 2023 2:14 PM

Willie Nelson could be inducted at the same time as The White Stripes…I hate this timeline.

by Anonymousreply 7February 1, 2023 2:37 PM

R6 They are not the same band. Just because they share some of the same members, doesn't mean they were the same band. Joy Division was a post punk/goth rock band. New Order was a new wave/synth pop band. They sound nothing alike.

by Anonymousreply 8February 1, 2023 4:46 PM

Poor Andrew Ridgley.

by Anonymousreply 9February 1, 2023 4:49 PM

Usually they take 7-8. No Dionne, Chaka or Cher. Dionne and Chaka have made the ballot several times but im not sure if Cher has ever been nominated.

I’m guessing

Iron Maiden

Rage Against the Machine

A tribe called quest

Soundgarden

Wille Nelson

George Michael

Warren Zevon

Kate Bush

by Anonymousreply 10February 1, 2023 6:34 PM

Of the two 80s icons, Cyndi Lauper and George Michael, which one do you think will get in?

I'm thinking maybe GM since the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame likes to induct artists posthumously. (Donna Summer quickly comes to mind.)

by Anonymousreply 11February 1, 2023 6:38 PM

Yup. I'm old. It's official. Bands from my high school years are on the list.

by Anonymousreply 12February 1, 2023 6:49 PM

Sheryl Crow? Eck. Get Willie in there before he croaks.

by Anonymousreply 13February 1, 2023 7:00 PM

What a sad selection. Ok, I guess Cyndi and Soundgarden, but that's IT.

by Anonymousreply 14February 1, 2023 7:07 PM

Missy E is horrendous

by Anonymousreply 15February 1, 2023 7:08 PM

R14, Rage should get in before Soundgarden. Even though they weren't my thing, they were huge. And seen as "important" from a social POV.

Soundgarden truly was the third wheel, far, far behind Nirvana and Pearl Jam when it came to Seattle grunge bands. Yes, I know they came first. Hell, even Alice in Chains felt bigger to me back then.

Sheryl Crow is interesting. She was quite popular for the better part of a decade. A ton of songs everyone knows, even if not a fan. But she couldn't be more irrelevant now. Might she be the 90s Linda Ronstandt, but without the great voice?

by Anonymousreply 16February 1, 2023 7:45 PM

#RRHOFsowhite

by Anonymousreply 17February 1, 2023 7:50 PM

I absolutely LOVED the last two Rock n Roll Hall of Fame specials on HBO. They were very well done.

by Anonymousreply 18February 1, 2023 8:17 PM

Missy Elliot is a goddess.

by Anonymousreply 19February 1, 2023 8:22 PM

Kate Bush???

by Anonymousreply 20February 1, 2023 8:29 PM

R1 = EPIC FAILURE.

You are not allowed to post again on this thread and no I'm not Janbot.

In what world is Willie Nelson a rock artist?

by Anonymousreply 23February 1, 2023 11:23 PM
In what world is Willie Nelson a rock artist?

You don’t have to be a “rock” artist to be inducted, fool.

by Anonymousreply 24February 1, 2023 11:28 PM

Janet is just a Jam & Lewis production. She can't sing for shit, her voice is shrill, and she doesn't play any instruments.

by Anonymousreply 25February 1, 2023 11:55 PM

I cannot believe Warren Zevon has not yet been inducted.

by Anonymousreply 26February 2, 2023 12:06 AM

I'm genuinely surprised that Janet Jackson finally got into the R&RHOF. She tried year after year for decade or longer and was continually unsuccessful and rightfully so as R25 pointed out.

Madonna got in on her first nomination.

by Anonymousreply 27February 2, 2023 12:10 AM
Janet is just a Jam & Lewis production.

A nearly 40 year career as a pop icon, legions of fans and imitators and a plethora of awards and industry achievements say otherwise.
She can't sing for shit, her voice is shrill, and she doesn't play any instruments.

Your opinion, your opinion and false.

by Anonymousreply 29February 2, 2023 12:12 AM
I'm genuinely surprised that Janet Jackson finally got into the R&RHOF.

Sure, hater. Janet inspired your fave’s fave. She is one of the blueprints for the modern day pop and R&B star, and is one of the only icons we have left from the ‘80s (and arguably the only sane one).
She tried year after year for decade or longer and was continually unsuccessful.

Wrong. She was on the ballot twice before finally getting in. Jan Wenner (a board member) reportedly had something against her, which could account for her lack of a nomination for several years. What’s more, the RNR HoF was notorious for not falling over themselves to induct women of color (Donna Summer has to die before they finally inducted her). During Janet’s acceptance speech, she mentioned that the Hall needs to start inducting more women, and based on the nominees over the past few years, it appears as if they’ve taken heed to her advice.

by Anonymousreply 30February 2, 2023 12:22 AM
POP ICON [R28]!

by Anonymousreply 31February 2, 2023 12:25 AM

Joy Division isn’t already in? Or Rage? What a joke

by Anonymousreply 32February 2, 2023 12:32 AM

I really wish they would induct Neil Sedaka while he still with us. He's got the credentials: master musician, early pioneer of the rock era, very respectable string of hits, including several classics that have endured to this day, tons of writing credits for other artists, part of the legendary Brill Building stable, etc.

Image and perception are everything, though, and he's always lacked the cool factor.

by Anonymousreply 33February 2, 2023 12:44 AM

Madonna got in on her first nomination R30.

See the difference?

by Anonymousreply 34February 2, 2023 12:45 AM
Madonna got in on her first nomination [R30].

Madonna is a white woman who Jann Wenner fangurls like a fag over. There’s your difference.

by Anonymousreply 35February 2, 2023 12:52 AM

This would go a lot smoother if they established categories or tracks for nominations, instead of just throwing it all in together and voting on popularity.

One slot for iconic songwriting (think Neil Sedaka, Randy Newman, etc.)

One slot for generational representation (think Bruce Springsteen, Alanis Morissette, Bruno Mars)

One slot for "living legend" status (artists who have endured and crossed over, but who are about to die - Dionne Warwick, Cher, etc.)

One slot for overlooked contributors (forgotten or niche performers who the industry itself loves)

And leave the rest for popular bullshit (bands that make you go "Oh, I remember their hit period!")

by Anonymousreply 36February 2, 2023 12:54 AM

Also, what about a category for "Best Performer" or "Arena Icon" (Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, GWAR - performers whose live concerts as iconic as their music)

by Anonymousreply 37February 2, 2023 12:55 AM

Kate Bush - I don't get her AT ALL, so I don't feel qualified to opine on her merits.

Sheryl Crow - I like her, but looking at the entirety of her career, it all seems a bit underwhelming. No (for now).

Missy Elliot - Sure, why not.

Iron Maiden - No opinion. I've heard some of their stuff, but most heavy metal isn't really my thing. Whatever.

Joy Division/New Order - Yeah. Not my favorites, but I think they were influential and important.

Cyndi Lauper - Yes, but I think Culture Club deserves to go in before her. I loved that era, and she was a big part of it.

George Michael - Of course. No question.

Willie Nelson - Yes. He's beyond legendary.

Rage Against the Machine - I'm conflicted. I cannot stand the sound of Zach's weak, yelpy voice. I thought rap-rock was a scourge on the music industry (Kid Rock, anyone? Limp Bizkit?). And I always suspected they were huge phonies. I do love Tom Morello's playing, though. And they'll be getting in no matter what I think of them, so bring 'em on.

Soundgarden - Yes. Good songs, GREAT singer (IMO), very influential.

The Spinners - Seriously? Why is this even a question? I cannot believe they're not already in. RIP Philippe Wynne.

Warren Zevon - I always like the idea of Warren Zevon more than the music of Warren Zevon. A respectful no.

The White Stripes - I give them credit for lasting longer than those other bands they were lumped in with at the beginning (The Vines, The Hives, etc.). But I'm gonna say no for now.

A Tribe Called Quest - They recorded what is considered perhaps the most homophobic song in hip-hop history, so fuck them. They're cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 38February 2, 2023 1:15 AM
Usually they take 7-8. No Dionne, Chaka or Cher. Dionne and Chaka have made the ballot several times but im not sure if Cher has ever been nominated.

I dont understand how Chaka Khan is not in yet. It is a disgrace.

by Anonymousreply 39February 2, 2023 1:23 AM

Chaka Khan should be inducted twice, solo and for Rufus. One of the most influential of all time (skillful in R&B, Funk, and Jazz), not being in the Hall of Fame is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 40February 2, 2023 1:30 AM

R1 got 2 people to like misinformation. Smdh. Merica'.

by Anonymousreply 41February 2, 2023 1:34 AM

Who of these bands are newly qualified?

by Anonymousreply 42February 2, 2023 1:39 AM

Just letting you all know, Beyonce qualifies in 2028.

by Anonymousreply 43February 2, 2023 1:40 AM

YES: Kate Bush, Missy Elliot, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper x20, George Michael x20, Willie Nelson, The Spinners, Warren Zevon

NO: Sheryl Crow, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, A Tribe Called Quest, The White Stripes

by Anonymousreply 44February 2, 2023 1:45 AM

I'd like to strongly recommend one group whose influence and longevity far outpaced their impression on the popular scene:

The Pointer Sisters

by Anonymousreply 45February 2, 2023 1:46 AM

Rufus Chaka Khan is one of the notable snubs on the Snub List.

Also missing: Nina Hagen

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 46February 2, 2023 1:52 AM

I'm not sure Chaka's work as a solo artist merits an induction.

She did her best work with Rufus, by far.

Given her immense talent, I expected a lot more from her as a solo artist.

Strange that the HOF only ever nominates her and not Rufus. I wonder if she has anything to do with that.

by Anonymousreply 47February 2, 2023 1:53 AM

R47 They still get him confused with that pretentious little opera queen from Rhinebeck whose parents were legitimate folk artists. All he does are bad Judy Garland covers and caterwauling tunes about fucking his art teacher.

by Anonymousreply 48February 2, 2023 1:55 AM

Inducting the White Stripes or Soundgarden before The Pixies is LITERAL violence. The Pixies have been eligible since 2013. They were highly, massively influential. There was nobody else like them, and then they came into existence, and they have spawned a million imitators. Most notably Nirvana, who's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was, by Kurt's own words, simply an attempt to write a Pixies song.

by Anonymousreply 49February 2, 2023 1:55 AM

George Michaels?

Shouldn’t he be in the Hole of Glory?

by Anonymousreply 50February 2, 2023 1:56 AM

I feel like Rage Against the Machine would make a show of being pinko cunts if they were actually inducted. They'd go all Sex Pistols and tell the RRHOF to go fuck themselves.

by Anonymousreply 51February 2, 2023 1:57 AM

r45, I also think they should be nominated

by Anonymousreply 52February 2, 2023 1:59 AM

R47, while I agree that Chaka did her best work with Rufus, her case is similar to Tina Turner’s. Just as Tina did her most memorable work with Ike and had a great run as a solo artist with a number of hits, the same can be said for Chaka as the lead singer to Rufus and her solo output.

I’m Every Woman and I Feel for You are iconic smash hits, and I would argue are just as career defining as Tell Me Something Good, Sweet Thing and Ain’t Nobody.

by Anonymousreply 53February 2, 2023 2:33 AM

CHER, motherfuckers. CHER!!

by Anonymousreply 54February 2, 2023 2:35 AM

The moment they put in Shitney Spears into this thing (you know they will) it will be a huge joke and no one will care anymore

by Anonymousreply 55February 2, 2023 2:36 AM

^^In addition to Cher...Sonny & Cher should definitely be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

by Anonymousreply 56February 2, 2023 2:36 AM

R55. Britney is eligible to be nominated into the RRHOF. It's been 25 years since "(Hit Me)...Baby One More Time" was released.

Twenty-five years since the artist's first record has been released is the minimum criteria. It's still a bit questionable for 2023 since her record wasn't released until Sept 1998. But she's definitely eligible in 2024.

by Anonymousreply 57February 2, 2023 2:43 AM

Does rock mean nothing anymore? Actually one could have said this hall lost all credibility when Madonna was inducted alongside Leonard fucking Cohen.

Despite this, I’m glad to see Zevon finally get on a ballot. This is apparently the first time he was ever nominated despite his large catalogue of influential (if not mainstream) work.

by Anonymousreply 58February 2, 2023 2:44 AM

Connie Francis should have walked in the very first year! of the Fake HAll!

by Anonymousreply 59February 2, 2023 2:52 AM

The R&R HOF is a joke. Still no Steppenwolf or Dionne Warwick.

The decades long Steppenwolf snub makes no sense whatsoever.

And I get the argument that La Warwick isn't a R&R act. But based on some of the other acts that have been inducted, I'm interpreting R&R to mean Pop. And as far as Pop acts ago, Miss Warwick is an undeniable legend! Let her in!

by Anonymousreply 60February 2, 2023 2:56 AM

R57, they go by the album. I was a huge MTV kid. And I remember B list celebs were calling her a one hit wonder because of how long it was taking the album to come out, which would have been late 99.

by Anonymousreply 61February 2, 2023 3:01 AM
or Dionne Warwick.

Evil cunts are not allowed in the RRHOF!!! Real legends only!

by Anonymousreply 62February 2, 2023 3:08 AM

Sheryl Crow is a fucking no-talent conniving cunt. She let everyone else do the work for her and then claimed all the credit.

by Anonymousreply 63February 2, 2023 3:11 AM

A look at nominees.

by Anonymousreply 64February 2, 2023 3:11 AM

When I think "Rock N Roll", the first name that pops into my mind is Missy Elliot.

I'm all for diversity, etc... but this is fucked. It's like nominating Liberace for the Hip Hop HOF.

by Anonymousreply 65February 2, 2023 3:13 AM

R28 There is no way you were being serious posting that lol. A toddler can memorize a little string of a song. Oh, bless your heart, you tried.

by Anonymousreply 66February 2, 2023 3:15 AM

I don't why yall get Janbot so riled up. Yall be feeding him on purpose.

by Anonymousreply 67February 2, 2023 3:16 AM

Wait. The Pixies aren't in the HoF, R49?

What the fuck?

Oh who cares then.

by Anonymousreply 68February 2, 2023 3:20 AM

Dan Fogelberg isn't in the R&R Hall of Fame. He's been dead almost 20 years, give this poor man some recognition! Lots of people may not like his music, but he was a top seller in the 1970s. And most definitely rock.

by Anonymousreply 69February 2, 2023 3:22 AM

R67 "Yall be feeding him"

What makes you desperate for attention?

by Anonymousreply 70February 2, 2023 3:24 AM

R66, guess again, pansy. What I did was prove you to be a very stupid, uninformed neanderthal.

by Anonymousreply 71February 2, 2023 3:25 AM

R1 is too stupid to live.

by Anonymousreply 72February 2, 2023 3:27 AM

I’m so happy for Missy Elliott!

I know she has Grave’s disease and I think that has mostly kept her from performing and why she’s semi-retired.

Missy was a huge part of my childhood and her music is incredibly influential.

On top of her own music, she wrote a lot of great songs for other artists in the 90’s.

She wrote her debut album in a week. It’s a great album.

by Anonymousreply 73February 2, 2023 3:27 AM

R71 What a clever comeback - oooh, burn

by Anonymousreply 74February 2, 2023 3:29 AM
What a clever comeback - oooh, burn

Faggot says what?

by Anonymousreply 75February 2, 2023 3:30 AM

"When I think "Rock N Roll", the first name that pops into my mind is Missy Elliot."

But Dolly Parton is totally rock to you? Klan Grannies are at it again

by Anonymousreply 76February 2, 2023 3:30 AM

And as a millennial I have to say some of you guys are too old for The White Stripes.

They revived rock music for the 2000s and were influential in creating the indie rock scene of today.

“Fell In Love With A Girl” was retro garage rock that revitalized garage rock and punk. Then came The Strokes, The Vines, the Hives and basically the whole indie that is today.

So that’s why I think they are deserving. They made forgotten music sound cool.

by Anonymousreply 77February 2, 2023 3:30 AM

And to add to R77, their back to basics formula also influenced the scene.

Rock artists like Creed and Limp Bizkit were spending $1-2 million recording albums and The White Stripes recorded their albums for like $10k lol.

They were more influential in ways people don’t realize.

by Anonymousreply 78February 2, 2023 3:33 AM

I agree that The White Stripes should be in

by Anonymousreply 79February 2, 2023 3:44 AM

Yeah the 90’s really erased 60’s and 70’s rock. I had never heard of the Velvet Underground until The Strokes cited them as influences.

All the bands of the 60’s and 70’s today I know because of all those garage rock revival bands of the 2000s.

And my friends weren’t even into The White Stripes or The Strokes, it was just me. They were listening to Blink 182 and New Found Glory.

And now they’re all acting like they were teenagers listening to David Bowie and Iggy Pop. I call them out on it. Like they hated it when I played them back then! They thought I was weird!

by Anonymousreply 80February 2, 2023 3:54 AM

That’s depressing. I had the same experiences as a teenager in the late 90s. I realized how much better the artists that the new “rock stars” were all ripping off were (Velvets, Ramones, Bowie, Blondie…) and it dampened my enjoyment of groups like The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

by Anonymousreply 81February 2, 2023 4:10 AM

People who dismiss The White Stripes and Rage without thoughts? My guess is they don't like rock or are simply too old to remember how big and important they were. I didn't care for Rage, but they were fing huge. And they at least attempted to say something with their music. I loved the White Stripes and for a few years there was no bigger or more exciting band.

I will have to trust you Xers as to whether Cyndi and New Order should get in (I love both, but I was a child during their heyday so I don't quite get how popular they actually were in real time), but you'll have to trust us when we say the White Stripes and Rage should be in.

by Anonymousreply 82February 2, 2023 4:23 AM

R82 Get help

by Anonymousreply 83February 2, 2023 4:24 AM

About time to add Helen Reddy.

by Anonymousreply 84February 2, 2023 4:44 AM

What does rock even mean at this point. A number of these nominees are country and rap.

by Anonymousreply 85February 2, 2023 4:49 AM

Definitely Joy Division and/or New Order deserve it.

by Anonymousreply 86February 2, 2023 4:50 AM

R58 - it’s not that the Hall Of Fame has lost credibility, it’s the nature of contemporary rock and roll.

From the guitar god demographic, John Mayer and Brad Paisley are eligible in 2024.

The first gasps of the international indie rock and folk pop scene of the 00s released debut albums: Sufjan Stevens, Tegan and Sara, Phoenix, Röyksopp.

There’s Macy Gray, who is a genuine talent but her one hit album doesn’t bode well for her inclusion.

Then from the Hip-Hop community, the only seriously eligible groundbreaker is Lil Wayne.

by Anonymousreply 87February 2, 2023 4:58 AM

If The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran are in the hall of fame, New Order definitely needs to be in there.

by Anonymousreply 88February 2, 2023 5:56 AM

Cher tweeted, after being taunted today, something to the effect of :I don;t give a flying fuck. I introduced vocoder changing the music game.

by Anonymousreply 89February 2, 2023 6:21 AM

I'm very happy to see Kate Bush and Missy Elliot nominated and hope both are inducted (because both are amazing artists and pioneers in their respective genres). But I'd be surprised as hell if Kate Bush actually showed up. I don't think she flies and I don't know if she travels by boat. I think she just sits at her sheep farm and drinks tea all day.

by Anonymousreply 90February 2, 2023 6:22 AM

R81 Really? I never felt that way. Especially since you can go back to the 1970s and people were accusing punk bands like the Ramones and Blondie of copying the 50s and 60s.

I remember someone called into a radio show and called Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols boring and a rip off of The Kinks.

Everything cycles so it’s never bothered me.

And no one sounds like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Fever To Tell” album! I always thought that album sounded like a futuristic Tokyo punk album. It’s brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 91February 2, 2023 6:30 AM

R77, I'm not saying the White Stripes don't deserve to be inducted. They most definitely do. I'm just saying, the Pixies be granted the respect of being inducted first. Anything in the art rock/college rock genre that came after 1987's Doolittle LP needs to step aside for a second and allow some highly influential elder statesmen of alt rock to wriggle in there before all of the 90s and 2000s crap -- the Smashmouth and Rage and the Pumpkins and Matchbox 20 and fucking Sublime -- starts rolling in taking up slots. Just get 'em in there, get it over with, and move on.

by Anonymousreply 92February 2, 2023 6:37 AM

R87 I think Lil’ Kim and Puffy deserve it before Lil’ Wayne.

The whole post-Biggie Bad Boy era was groundbreaking. They changed the entire rap industry.

by Anonymousreply 93February 2, 2023 6:53 AM

R92 I agree.

I have a feeling the Pixies wouldn’t show up lol.

by Anonymousreply 94February 2, 2023 6:54 AM

Triggered Janbot alert.

by Anonymousreply 95February 2, 2023 9:22 AM

Agreed - though the artists I listed were all 2024 qualifiers and Lil Wayne is the only great rapper in the group. I was sort of trying to show how few great rock musicians debut each passing year.

I would actually induct Diddy as a producer, not a performer. He’s a good rapper, but a great producer.

by Anonymousreply 96February 2, 2023 10:03 AM

I will say I am shocked that Coldplay weren’t nominated.

I don’t think they’re interesting enough to be there, but as the biggest rock band of their generation, and for what it’s worth an influential one, if they are not in contention it shows the quality issue rock music faces.

Of course Pixies should be there, but unlike Coldplay, White Stripes deserve to be there thanks to their own accomplishments and they should go in this year.

Whereas if Coldplay were nominated, I would think that Oasis should be inducted first and that ain’t happening.

by Anonymousreply 97February 2, 2023 10:17 AM

Grace Jones

by Anonymousreply 98February 2, 2023 12:35 PM

R23 Country (and folk) are a lot closer to rock'n'roll, than po and hip-hop. You have no problem with pop stars and rappers being inducted, but you have with Willie Nelson?Acoustic country isn't that much different from acoustic rock. And Willie should have been inducted a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 99February 2, 2023 12:36 PM

R38 You don't like metal music but are a big fan of Soundgarden?

by Anonymousreply 100February 2, 2023 12:38 PM

R44 How does Missy Elliott deserves to get in but Soundgarden doesn't?

by Anonymousreply 101February 2, 2023 12:38 PM

R51 RATM wouldn't pull The Sex Pistols. They are a joke. Corporate band signed to fucking Sony that made high budget music videos for MTV and appeared on MTV music awards hoping to get an award all the while singing about anti establishment and against corporations.

by Anonymousreply 102February 2, 2023 12:43 PM

Sonic Youth still aren't in but fucking Foo Fighters and Green Day are.

by Anonymousreply 103February 2, 2023 12:44 PM

Sonic Youth suck balls. They are legends in their own minds and in the minds of less than 100,000 pretentious proto hipsters and some insufferable music critics.

by Anonymousreply 104February 2, 2023 12:48 PM

Warren Zevon and The Spinners are the only two worthy nominees.

Willie? Well, who would deny him anything at this point, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 105February 2, 2023 12:48 PM
They are legends in their own minds

Oh, dear.

Trite cliches don't carry the point you're spitting over.

Newsflash: They were just inducted last year. And Janet went in when she was supposed to, which happened to be 3 years before JJ/TL.
Sonic Youth still aren't in but fucking Foo Fighters and Green Day are.

Well, I don't think it's just about quality. Success in the business is a huge factor. Foo Fighters and Green Day have sold like 30 and 75 million albums respectively. Sonic Youth-90,000.

They're never getting in because they really just aren't that well known.

by Anonymousreply 109February 2, 2023 7:55 PM

R104 Watch out for this guy. He's too cool for Sonic Youth.

by Anonymousreply 110February 2, 2023 9:08 PM

R109 Which proves RnR HoF is just a popularity thing. Not an influence and importance thing.

by Anonymousreply 111February 2, 2023 9:09 PM

We do our best R67!

"Which proves RnR HoF is just a popularity thing"

Popularity is a kind of influence

"How does Missy Elliott deserves to get in but Soundgarden doesn't?"

Some people think rock means "white guys with guitars"

Do you really think Missy sounds less like, say, Fats Domino or Chuck Berry than Soundgarden or any grunge band?

by Anonymousreply 114February 3, 2023 1:57 AM

R49 The most 90s comment ever.

by Anonymousreply 115February 3, 2023 3:08 AM

R110 Ha, I already have R104 on block. Consider it.

by Anonymousreply 116February 3, 2023 3:55 AM

R116 is the navel-gazing drunkard, creator of this tone deaf tale of misery below, who considers a DUI a gift from God, without a peep about the public menace SHE? (he?) represents. A repulsive cunt. Consider it.

Well, it is the Hall of [ital]Fame[/ital]. Maybe they could get inducted into the Hall of "Hey, I think I've heard of you... Wait. No. I think that was someone else".

And FWIW, I'm a Sonic Youth fan. I'm not the poster saying they suck. Just pointing out that as great as they are, they've never had a large following.

This list reads like a Benneton ad

by Anonymousreply 119February 3, 2023 4:09 AM

R118 What do you think about Dinosaur Jr's chances? They were influential and very "of their era."

by Anonymousreply 120February 3, 2023 5:03 AM
R118] What do you think about Dinosaur Jr's chances? They were influential and very "of their era."

Another underrated band with only about 100,000 album sales and even fewer singles that charted than Sonic Youth, mainly on the alt rock charts. I'd say they have even less of a chance than Sonic Youth of getting a nomination much less inducted.

by Anonymousreply 121February 3, 2023 5:49 AM

J Mascis is brilliant but Dino Jr isn't getting into the RHOF. Nor would I want to see them there. Same with Pavement, Sebadoh, the Breeders or other great indie bands of that era.

Cyndi Lauper! Where’s Stacy Q and Martika and Samantha Fox and all the other “outrageous” 80s pop gals who know one cares about anymore? Roll em all into the Hall!

When will Aaron Carter be legible?

by Anonymousreply 126February 7, 2023 10:34 AM

Right after Janet Jackson is finally allowed in the R&RHOF R126.

by Anonymousreply 127February 7, 2023 10:56 AM

R127 That was 2019

by Anonymousreply 128February 7, 2023 11:01 AM

Oh, sorry, Aaron!
I'm not sure Chaka's work as a solo artist merits an induction.

Her vocal virtuosity is more in evidence in her SOLO material although she had fewer pop hits because she was no longer fronting an interracial band of male musicians. Chaka merits induction just based on her 1982 self-titled solo album -- before the "I Feel For You" LP. She is in the top 1% of popular music vocalists. She is the most influential female voice after Aretha Franklin.

Link Wray isn't the in the Hall of Fame. The man pioneered the power chord, for fuck's sake, and you people talk about CHER?

by Anonymousreply 131February 7, 2023 3:16 PM

ISN'T IN. Whatever. I'm surprised because he was also Native American, you'd think he'd have gotten nominated at least a few times more - he was only nominated in 2013 and 2017. Is the current committee just ignorant of actual rock history?

by Anonymousreply 132February 7, 2023 3:18 PM

How much did Michael for Janet to be inducted?

by Anonymousreply 134February 7, 2023 5:37 PM

Has Alanis been inducted yet?

by Anonymousreply 135February 7, 2023 5:38 PM

Mary Wells and The Marvelettes are two acts that made Motown Records a viable record company. Without them there would no t have been The Supremes.

by Anonymousreply 136February 7, 2023 6:07 PM

R135 hasn’t even been nominated yet! Hopefully next year.

And fyi Britney Spears is now eligible, so we all know the shit direction this is gonna go soon.

I actually like quite a few from this list (Spinners, George Michael)
