No one cares, OP. We have evolved and no longer interest in what others do in thier down time.

The only funny one! What about all my lines about whipping my 16 year old skin and bones son with multiple belts at once!

Aunt Mimi = bargain-basement Bonnie Mace

She -and the show -are worth remembering. It was funny, with a solid (though fluffy) cast. Hemphill would have had a long and successful career had she lived. Hat's off to all of them!

Dee and Wesley from Mr. Belvedere were the best, and the only funny sitcom kids.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 24, 2022 5:04 PM |
It is common knowledge on DL that Dee was the best

Sadly she died alone. She had been dead for several days in her home.

OP's atrocious grammar has killed any possible interest I might have had in this topic

A friend of mine who used to go to the Krofft Supershow with the Bay City Rollers saw her at the studio, She shouted "What's Happening?!" to the crowd of teenage girls (and 1 boy) lined up to see the Rollers.

Oh and someone mentioned this song on the"Ain't No Mo" thread

r13 I thought that was the alternate title for "Some Like It Hot."

Yes, she was a lesbian and a great friend. I miss her often. We used to stand outside the Laugh Factory on Sunset yelling at the passing cars to "Come on in for a laugh and a drink! The liquor ain't bad and the comedy sure don't stink!"
God I miss the 90s.
I saved her obit clipping and keep it in a box with those of friends and family.

Hemphill was another pleasingly plump gal that was pestered by the “you’ve got such a pretty face, if you’d trim down, you would be a knockout!” meme. So she had her stomach stapled and she died.

Mabel King lost both legs and an arm to diabetes within a few years of having a stroke. Her son also predeceased her. The end of her life was awful.
From Wikipedia:
[quote] "King was diabetic and in 1986 one of her toes was amputated as a result of the disease. In 1990, King suffered a stroke and entered the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. In 1991, King's diabetes resulted in the amputation of her left leg. In 1994, her right leg was also amputated. King would also lose one of her arms to diabetes. Her son, Larry, died in 1996. King died on November 9, 1999, at age 66."

I remember this one well. Shirley was scheduled for surgery but was so addicted to food that she couldn’t stop eating the night before. Trapper John came thisclose to killing her on the operating table because her stomach was filled with food.

I love the whole cast of a What’s Happening!!, and OP should already know that Dee is a patron saint of Datalounge.
Also, the actress Danielle Spencer who played her has also had a challenging life, but is now a veterinarian. Fantastic to see a child actor leave entertainment and find fulfillment.

Danielle Spencer was hilarious, but at that photo at r20 shows, she had that unfortunate mustache that plagues some black girls in their early teen years (see also: Keshia Knight-Pulliam).

She died from complications due to long term diabetes.

In 1979, Shirley Hemphill auditioned for the part of 'Veronica Rooney' the cook' on 'Archie Bunker's Place' . She lost out to comedienne Anne Meara.

Hmm R27, I do love Anne too so I guess it's fair.

Do you think Shirley and nell Carter ever bumped pussies??

I liked her act.
"We learned to conjugate verbs...I be, you be, he be"
"What you laughing at? That's what they be teaching us"
