Lying Gay Homo George Santos Busted Wide Open By NYT

Newly elected openly gay GOP congressman from Long Island

NYT busted him for fabricating almost all his bio.

Said he worked at Goldman and Citi - they have no record of him
By his account, he catapulted himself from a New York City public college to become a “seasoned Wall Street financier and investor” with a family-owned real estate portfolio of 13 properties and an animal rescue charity that saved more than 2,500 dogs and cats.
But a New York Times review of public documents and court filings from the United States and Brazil, as well as various attempts to verify claims that Mr. Santos, 34, made on the campaign trail, calls into question key parts of the résumé that he sold to voters.
Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, the marquee Wall Street firms on Mr. Santos’s campaign biography, told The Times they had no record of his ever working there. Officials at Baruch College, which Mr. Santos has said he graduated from in 2010, could find no record of anyone matching his name and date of birth graduating that year.
There was also little evidence that his animal rescue group, Friends of Pets United, was, as Mr. Santos claimed, a tax-exempt organization: The Internal Revenue Service could locate no record of a registered charity with that name.
His financial disclosure forms suggest a life of some wealth. He lent his campaign more than $700,000 during the midterm election, has donated thousands of dollars to other candidates in the last two years and reported a $750,000 salary and over $1 million in dividends from his company, the Devolder Organization.
Yet the firm, which has no public website or LinkedIn page, is something of a mystery. On a campaign website, Mr. Santos once described Devolder as his “family’s firm” that managed $80 million in assets. On his congressional financial disclosure, he described it as a capital introduction consulting company, a type of boutique firm that serves as a liaison between investment funds and deep-pocketed investors. But Mr. Santos’s disclosures did not reveal any clients, an omission three election law experts said could be problematic if such clients exist.
And while Mr. Santos has described a family fortune in real estate, he has not disclosed, nor could The Times could find, records of his properties.
In 2008, when Mr. Santos was 19, he stole the checkbook of a man his mother was caring for, according to Brazilian court records uncovered by The Times. Police and court records show that Mr. Santos used the checkbook to make fraudulent purchases, including a pair of shoes. Two years later, Mr. Santos confessed to the crime and was later charged.
He has also asserted that his professional life had intersected with tragedy: He said in an interview on WNYC that his company, which he did not identify, “lost four employees” at the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando in June 2016. But a Times review of news coverage and obituaries found that none of the 49 victims appear to have worked at the various firms named in his biography.

It goes on and on. He claims he was paid $750K by his mysterious "family business" that "has no public-facing assets or other property that The Times could locate."

LOL, I meant the thread title to say "Lying [bold]GOP[/bold] Homo"

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2022 12:23 PM

A lying, cheating Republican? Is it a day that ends in "y"?

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2022 12:25 PM

Why didn't they run this article before the election? Now he's going to be in office. Can he be recalled?

by Anonymousreply 3December 19, 2022 12:31 PM

He’ll fit right in.

by Anonymousreply 5December 19, 2022 12:33 PM

I never understand why these types of stories only get published after they're elected.

by Anonymousreply 6December 19, 2022 12:36 PM
Homo George Santos Busted Wide Open

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2022 12:38 PM

HIS NAME IS POLLY ANN COSTELLO!

by Anonymousreply 8December 19, 2022 12:39 PM

I’m not who you think I am

Back in 2012 I had an operation

Previously I was mild mannered housewife Anna Maria Bonaduce.

by Anonymousreply 9December 19, 2022 12:40 PM

The article is pretty devastating. Almost seems like he was paid by someone to run. The money he says he earned just doesn’t add up.

by Anonymousreply 10December 19, 2022 12:40 PM

This information would’ve been more useful YESTERDAY!!!

by Anonymousreply 11December 19, 2022 12:41 PM

Mafia patsy.

by Anonymousreply 12December 19, 2022 12:45 PM

I'll bet they'll let him stay. The Pukes will scream "BUT HUNTER BIDEN!!!" and the media will go with that, even though Hunter has never held office of any kind.

In any other reality this bitch should be made to resign A.S.A.P.

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2022 12:46 PM

Former rentboy ads dropping in 3.. 2.. 1..

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2022 12:49 PM

Oppsie!

by Anonymousreply 15December 19, 2022 12:50 PM

Gays with extreme ideologies-just no. Not hirable, not electable.

by Anonymousreply 16December 19, 2022 12:51 PM
The hate threads against him were some of the most shocking shit I've ever read on DL. Quite a few of you are horrifying seething psychopaths.

That’s because he’s gay, not Republican. Gay male couples who adopt are called pedophiles here.

by Anonymousreply 17December 19, 2022 12:53 PM

R6... the entire state of New York and elsewhere knew and COULD PROVE that trump was a crook and did nothing before or during his campaign running for president....

by Anonymousreply 18December 19, 2022 1:01 PM

They left out the biggest problem with this mook. He clearly thought all of his lies would go completely unnoticed forever. That makes him mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 20December 19, 2022 1:02 PM

Now Mike White has his evil gay character for Season 3!

by Anonymousreply 21December 19, 2022 1:07 PM

It would seem that someone gave him the money to run, given that he was getting evicted from his apartment 4 years ago

Maybe he has a GOP sugar daddy?

by Anonymousreply 22December 19, 2022 1:14 PM

So he lied about his education, his company is a front, his charity is fake, the source of his money is a mystery, and 12 years ago he was convicted for stealing the checkbook of a man his mother was caring for. Definitely something reporters should have looked into DURING the campaign.

by Anonymousreply 23December 19, 2022 1:14 PM

And agree with R20 that the scope of his lies is pretty major.

It's not one of those "said he graduated but was still 5 credits short" kind of things.

This was college and several jobs and his entire background invented from whole cloth.

by Anonymousreply 24December 19, 2022 1:16 PM

Those things are only problematical if you're a DEMOCRAT, R23

If you're a Republican, anything goes!

by Anonymousreply 25December 19, 2022 1:18 PM

He is one estrogen dose away from a full transition.

by Anonymousreply 26December 19, 2022 1:22 PM

Why didn't any of this come out during the election. It seems that EVERYTHING is a lie.

A foreign plant?

by Anonymousreply 27December 19, 2022 1:39 PM

How do all these GOPer suddenly get all this mystery money a la Kavanaugh?

by Anonymousreply 28December 19, 2022 1:40 PM

I hope he gets together with the luggage thief and then” two of them lie and grift happily ever after.

“Hey, babe, are we going to Sam & George’s again this Christmas?”

“Oh, no, I forgot to tell you. It’s off. George is in jail.”

“I thought that was Sam.”

“It was. He got out. George is in now.”

“Okay.”

by Anonymousreply 30December 19, 2022 2:40 PM

If he is somehow forced to resign, Hochul appoints his replacement, right?

by Anonymousreply 31December 19, 2022 2:50 PM

I would assume there's a special election.

R29, Rick Wilson makes a fair point, but there may not have been the funding in the Democrat's campaign. In hindsight the fakery seems obvious, but the NYT must have had to make a lot of phone calls and order a lot of documents to conduct a thorough process of elimination. Wilson is assuming a Republican-style biosphere of funded oppo-research (to speak nothing of smear artists). The media (like the NYT) bear more responsibility for not checking and presenting the candidates thoroughly. More broadly, the Hochul campaign is still to blame for coasting so much and putting so much burden on down-ticket campaigns, which probably cost the Dems a few reps.

by Anonymousreply 32December 19, 2022 3:01 PM

I was just coming to post this.

A Republican who's a lying piece of shit? What a surprise.

Are we sure Santos is even gay? I think I'd need to see some cocksucking action before deciding.

by Anonymousreply 33December 19, 2022 3:06 PM

This story is insane.

It's not a few exaggerations, he invented a completely made up biography. And the source of his recent money is extremely sketch. Suddenly someone started paying him a lot of money while he was running for office that he never had before. He is a bought and paid for con artist that is now in Congress.

by Anonymousreply 34December 19, 2022 3:20 PM

I love how a flagrantly unqualified Republican stumbling his way into office is literally everyone's responsibility - the media, the Dems, anyone - except the Republicans and the fuckheads who voted for him

They're responsible. No one else.

by Anonymousreply 35December 19, 2022 3:28 PM

How did his opponent not uncover this? You can't rely on the NYtimes to investigate all 435 congressional races, but his opponent should have done their oppo research.

by Anonymousreply 36December 19, 2022 3:28 PM

^^^
Robert Zimmerman (D) whom George Santos beat, tells me:

Serious question:

Are Brazilians encouraged from a young age to use sex and deceit to get whatever they want? The few Brazilians I’ve personally known are unabashed grifters…not to mention the way they’ve oversaturated the gay porn market.

by Anonymousreply 39December 19, 2022 4:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 40December 19, 2022 4:13 PM

Only the Times still has the money to do investigating like this. The Daily News, Newsday, etc. - those newspapers have no money now because people get all their news from Facebook, Twitter and the rest. And even the Times was focused on the governor's race.

by Anonymousreply 41December 19, 2022 4:18 PM

What Loreal shade is this dude's hair? Whatever it is, it's the same color Keri Lake uses.

Actually, come to think of it, that shade is more a Dark & Lovely mix my sister used in college in the early 80s.

by Anonymousreply 42December 19, 2022 4:30 PM

I have mentioned on here that I have two friends who work in D party politics in DC

They have both said that TPTB are furious at DCCC and NY State Democrats in particular, it was not all that difficult to figure out a lot of what the NYT uncovered.

by Anonymousreply 43December 19, 2022 4:40 PM

It wouldn't surprise me at this point if he turns out to really be three shape-shifting marmots stacked on top of each other. How absolutely bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 44December 19, 2022 4:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 45December 19, 2022 4:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 52December 19, 2022 5:03 PM

R34: "He is a bought and paid for con artist that is now in Congress."

Just the one, dear?

And R39? My Brazilian ex-gf was exactly like that. Incredibly beautiful woman, married a US guy to get citizenship, stayed with him just long enough to keep her US citizenship even after a divorce, broke up with him by sleeping with me (I had no idea she was even married -- she never wore a ring), lied to me and led me around by the nose for three years of the most passionate sex I have ever had in my life, and then viciously dumped me for a rich Englishman who whisked her away to England. Ugh! I get tired just writing about it, she was so emotionally exhausting.

She actually came from family money in Brazil, strangely enough. It made me wonder what she had done there to make her want to escape to the US. But yes, I do think Brazillians are bred to the grifting life -- even those who already have money.

by Anonymousreply 64December 19, 2022 6:21 PM
it's quite the contrast to the strict vetting process that TV series want us to believe the candidates have to endure.

Or even TV journalists, or all journalists. It's such horseshit this idea of "don't worry, we're on it!" You ain't on anything! You spend most of your time selling narratives and talking about what will happen a week, a month, a year from now and so little time actually dealing with what is happening right now, right in front of you.

The narrative was crime is rampant in New York and so here is how the Democrats will be punished in November. The irony was actual criminal fraud was happening right there in a congressional race, but it wasn't the right kind of crime: crazy ass black people killing all the white folks, so nobody felt like covering it.

by Anonymousreply 65December 19, 2022 6:23 PM

His hair color looks like Audacious Red.

by Anonymousreply 66December 19, 2022 6:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 70December 19, 2022 7:08 PM

If he did indeed sell himself to the electorate based on a lie, is that fraud? Are there any actual implications for that?

by Anonymousreply 71December 19, 2022 7:20 PM

DEPORTATION MOTHERSONSOFBITCHES.

by Anonymousreply 72December 19, 2022 7:31 PM

When the election was over I thought, “Dems should make sure to dig deeply with these new GOP congressional reps. There’s got to be something illegal going on with at least 2 or 3 of them. There has to be. They’re republicans. We can get them bumped out of office.”

by Anonymousreply 73December 19, 2022 7:37 PM

Man... this is great information for six months ago.

by Anonymousreply 74December 19, 2022 7:37 PM

So if you’re convicted of a crime in another country it doesn’t matter in the US? You can just run for office as a Republican?

by Anonymousreply 75December 19, 2022 7:38 PM

R56, but there are over 20 congressional districts in their "backyard" alone

And why aren't you yelling at other New York papers?
DEPORTATION

R72 He was born and raised in New York, so, sadly, he can't be deported. He did spend time in Brazil as a young man, which was where he was arrested.
Santos was born on July 22, 1988, to Brazilian immigrants in Jackson Heights, Queens.
After obtaining a high school equivalency diploma, Santos apparently spent time in Brazil. In 2008, Santos, then age 19, stole a checkbook from a man in Brazil who was being cared for by Santos' mother, a nurse. Santos wrote fraudulent checks to make purchases, confessed to the crime two years later, and was subsequently charged with check fraud. He did not respond to court summons.

by Anonymousreply 80December 19, 2022 7:47 PM

Given that literally everything else he's claimed is a lie, r80, I'd take a really close look at his birth certificate... and then call INS.

by Anonymousreply 81December 19, 2022 7:52 PM

Motherfuck stealing checks? Why isn't he locked up?

by Anonymousreply 82December 19, 2022 7:57 PM

R81 Haha, go for it!

by Anonymousreply 83December 19, 2022 7:58 PM

Yes R81 and I doubt George Santos is his real name.

by Anonymousreply 84December 19, 2022 8:01 PM

I hope this article prompts some other media outlets to take long, hard looks at other newly elected Rep. representatives that gave them their slim majority in the House.

by Anonymousreply 85December 19, 2022 8:18 PM

Glenn Greenwald is a piece of shit R79. Anyone that listens to him is an idiot. It's not surprising that he was promoting this fool.

by Anonymousreply 86December 19, 2022 8:21 PM

Once again for the umpteenth time Democratic strategists failed to do their homework and gave up a seat.

by Anonymousreply 87December 19, 2022 8:23 PM

Once again for the umpteenth time Republicans voted for an unqualified candidate

by Anonymousreply 88December 19, 2022 9:07 PM

And as always the question is "qualified for what?" Qualified to grift and whore and lie? Sure, if anything overqualified for that. And as long as that is the goal for Republican Congresscritters, there is no problem with candidates like this. He can be fully counted on for voting for each and every tax cut for Elon Musk and for declaring Trump absolutely perfect and beyond all reproach.

by Anonymousreply 89December 19, 2022 10:00 PM

I'm confused. Why did Greenwald promote a gay Brazilian with absolutely no potential as an underage power bottom porn star?

by Anonymousreply 90December 19, 2022 10:05 PM

If his check theft case in Brazil was never prosecuted because he didn't answer the summons (I assume he fled back to the us), the US government should contact the Brazilian government and work out a deal to extradite him back there for prosecution.

by Anonymousreply 91December 19, 2022 10:07 PM

He's our generation's Rosie Ruiz!

by Anonymousreply 92December 19, 2022 11:17 PM

Following up on R43, they said that while it is not always easy to get an outlet like the NYT to write about oppo research, when it's something as incredible as this--something that is very easy to verify (either he went to college or he didn't, he worked at Goldman or he didn't) that they DCCC and NY Dems really ought to have pushed.

Given that he is an unknown who suddenly came into millions, seemingly from nowhere, this will be a fun one to watch.

by Anonymousreply 93December 19, 2022 11:33 PM

Congressional Republicans will now have a harder time making hay out of the Sam Brinton affair. Also not good for lbgtq men in general.

by Anonymousreply 94December 19, 2022 11:34 PM

They're sort of unrelated R94

Other than the sodomy

by Anonymousreply 95December 19, 2022 11:38 PM

General phoniness and probable coverup of same by their respective parties, R95.

by Anonymousreply 96December 19, 2022 11:43 PM

I don't think coverup is much of an option in either case r96.

Not that phoniness is much of a charge in D.C. Still, it will be interesting if anybody raises a formal challenge to seating Santos. There are some qualifications to being a Representative, but Not Being a Completely Fraudulent Asshole isn't actually one of them.

by Anonymousreply 97December 19, 2022 11:54 PM

I think he's tremendous.

by Anonymousreply 98December 20, 2022 12:01 AM

R97 Biden et al. probably didn’t know Brinton made up the conversion therapy story but probably should have, that is, better vetting should have been done. And although it is a civil service appointment I strongly suspect political pressure from somewhere along the line in the WH was brought to bear on the appointment. What Biden knew and when he knew it is a question House Republicans might have been tempted to raise. I also suspect GOP operatives in NYS knew much about the shadiness associated with Santos. How much did McCarthy know and when did he know it? I doubt he wants that raised. Mutual assured destruction may keep all these questions under wrap.

by Anonymousreply 99December 20, 2022 12:05 AM

I doubt anything can be done. Politicians lie all the time and nothing happens

by Anonymousreply 100December 20, 2022 12:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 101December 20, 2022 12:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 103December 20, 2022 12:33 AM

Is it actually illegal r101. I suppose corporations or other employers can sue you for lying about your credentials, but I'm not sure it's actually a criminal complaint. Hershel Walker lied constantly about everything. If he won, could anybody come after him criminally? I'm not sure.

by Anonymousreply 104December 20, 2022 12:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 113December 20, 2022 1:14 AM

I think the Federal Elections Commission needs to investigate the $700K loan he gave to his own campaign. I don’t think he has that kind of money, so it must’ve come from other sources.

by Anonymousreply 114December 20, 2022 1:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 115December 20, 2022 1:21 AM

by Anonymousreply 116December 20, 2022 1:26 AM

In my experience, Brazilians of today are like the Cubans of the 1960s: If they have enough cash to land in America as wealthy people, then they were almost certainly gangsters in the old country.

Not usually a conspiracy theorist, but... How did he get away with this without someone paying off CUNY. Otherwise, we have to believe that, of the hundreds of employees within the CUNY system with access to alumni/former student records, not one got even a little curious about his GPA at Baruch the entire time he was running for Congress, nor did anyone drop an anonymous tip to the media about there being no record for him. I used to work in an admin position for a CUNY school, and it's really hard to believe no one caught this.

by Anonymousreply 130December 20, 2022 3:12 AM

Well, somebody has to give a shit r130, first of all. Did anybody give enough of a shit to break whatever protocol there is and actually check any records? It seems like the Democratic Party was just dicking around and not doing whatever it could have. Do randos at the CUNY records office typically root around in the files?

by Anonymousreply 131December 20, 2022 3:32 AM

Not randos. CUNY employees with legitimate access to student records. Of which there are hundreds across the system. It wouldn't have been breaking any rules for them to look up his records internally. Sharing his grades with the media would have been a breach, but if there were none, it is arguable that they wouldn't have broken any rules by disclosing that he wasn't a student/didn't graduate. It's not like a HIPAA violation. Most employers just have to call a central database (which most schools in the U.S. report student status to every semester) to confirm the current enrollment or graduation status of a prospective employee, without offering any proof that they're an actual employer.

by Anonymousreply 141December 20, 2022 8:44 AM

The NYS Republican Party should call for him to step down. There would be a special election and if Suozzi, Democratic Party incumbent who did not run this time, got in he would win it. The district is essentially Democratic. The lack of an incumbent in the race, the crime and inflation issues, Holchul’s weak campaign and the pro-gay part probably drew in independents. That won’t happen in a special election. I know the GOP needs Congressional seats but cutting this guy loose is untimely to their benefit. If he doesn’t resign before Jan and is sworn in then I hope their is some way to get this to the House ethics committee which is always an a 50/50 GOP/Dem member committee regardless of who controls the body. I suspect he will step down and in a few months Suozzi is back in the House.

I don’t know if Trump endorsed him but he was a Trumpster. More proof of Trump’s disastrous effect on the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 149December 20, 2022 10:53 AM

He also ran unopposed in the Republican primary. My guess is the Republican Party assumed any Republican would lose and decided not to put up a challenger. I live in Brooklyn and in my district the Republican Party registration is nil. You can't imagine the loons who end up on the Republican Party. They just file and no one is put up against them because the Party thinks it's hopeless. They get 6% of the vote in the general. In the last city council election in my district the only challenger to the Democratic was some Libertarian no one ever heard of . Apparently even the loons stayed off the Republican line.

by Anonymousreply 150December 20, 2022 10:54 AM

Or maybe he was in a district where there was no way a democrat could win. So why expose the guy? Better to let THAT republican win and then let the shit hit the fan.

Either way, this is just more evidence that politicians on both sides and “journalists” are overwhelmingly frauds or incompetent or both.

by Anonymousreply 151December 20, 2022 11:19 AM

Given that both candidates were gay, I don’t that bit played too much of a role in people’s decision on whom to vote for. (Slight tangent - I don’t know about the Prada part, but there was so much lip gloss on the two candidates, I keep thinking of the DL phrase lip gloss and Prada queens during the election.)

The Republican Party on Lawn Guyland is mobbed up. Being a lying criminal grifter is a plus in a candidate to them.

FERPA is kind of like HIPAA though. And records are electronic now so IT can track searches. And George Santos is a common name so some people by that name probably did attend CUNY.

Suozzi is such a big baby getting his fee-fees hurt in the primary against Hochul and then abandoning his rightful position by refusing to run for the House again. He needs to get over himself.

Speaking of college degrees, is Baruch College an odd choice to lie about a degree from? Is there some connection to be gleaned there?

by Anonymousreply 156December 20, 2022 2:09 PM

If he'd been running in a national election I bet his fraud would have been discovered early on. Still, it was very stupid that apparently no one on his opponent's team even bothered to check this mook out. All it would have taken was a couple of phone calls to find out he was a fraud.

by Anonymousreply 157December 20, 2022 2:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 158December 20, 2022 2:15 PM

The right absolutely doesn’t care that this guy is a complete fraud. He’s a warm body for them in Congress, and that’s all they ever want. Instead of admitting this, they’re yelling “Hunter Biden!”, “Barry Soetoro!”, and “Joe Biden!” at the top of their collective lungs. They’ll only become outraged and do something if Santos doesn’t vote “correctly”. Period. Oh, and they have someone better lined up in the chute, ready to replace Santos.

All that said, his faked background and the amount of money he suddenly received is very worrisome. So is the fact that the Times, for whatever reason, reported all of it after the election. Like, what’s the point at this point? Nothing of any consequence can happen now if I’m not mistaken.

by Anonymousreply 159December 20, 2022 2:18 PM

R156- It's odd only in that Baruch is part of such a large university system that the odds of someone noticing that he wasn't in the department they taught in, in the classes they took, or in the registrar's system are small. It was a risky move. On the other hand, CUNY doesn't produce a proportional number of prestigious graduates anymore, and most NY pols have few close acquaintances (outside of their staff, maybe) with connections to it. If he had pretended to go to an ivy league/elite school, people on both sides of the aisle would have been invested in checking his credentials, because it touched on their social network. I'm guessing someone in the GOP had figured out that he was lying, but realized that nothing in his background was prestigious enough to attract scrutiny before the election.

The North Shore Leader questioned his financial disclosures before the election.
Interestingly, Santos shows no US real property in his financial disclosure, although he has repeatedly claimed to own "a mansion in Oyster Bay Cove" on Tiffany Road; and "a mansion in the Hamptons" on Dune Road. He recently told several Republicans that he was selling his "Hamptons mansion" for $10 million, because he rarely uses it. However an investigation of Santos' alleged "Hamptons mansion" showed the house is owned by someone else having nothing to do with Santos, and has a market value of less than $2 million. For a man of such alleged wealth, campaign records show that Santos and his husband live in a rented apartment, in an attached row house in Queens.

by Anonymousreply 193December 20, 2022 10:04 PM

I agree with those saying this is esp. egregious given that "Santos" ran against Suozzi in 2020, and got a decent vote. Where was everybody then? It's not fair to say there was NO Dem oppo. DCCC had some stuff including his evictions and shady business, months ago. But: A. they didn't have his fake resume or his crime in Brazil, just suggestions of financial shenanigans:

B. That could have been enough, but even then the buried the lede and 90% of their dossier is "look at what an outrageous MAGA Republican Santos is!", which of course was easily dismissible as the usual political blahblah and NOT the angle that would have interested the press.

Zimmerman had plenty of money. If he really knew this stuff he could have run ads and gotten the fact checkers and NYT interested that way. It seems like he probably only knew that Santos was somehow shady, but didn't really have the goods, just like that Long Island paper. Finding out that he had a record in Brazil might have taken some work, but the other stuff, really not so much. I think people just couldn't imagine such an audacious fraud.

by Anonymousreply 220December 21, 2022 12:01 PM

Yes R133

I actually did go to Princeton and a somewhat well known Manhattan private school.

In my 20s, I had at least a half dozen encounters with some gay guy telling me that he went to one of those two schools (as part of a broader fanciful background story about a fabulously wealthy childhood) when it was immediately clear that he did not.

The first couple of times I fell for it ("I went there too! What year did you graduate? Where did you live?") but then learned to let it pass.

What was mind blowing though was how they dealt with getting busted, e.g., when the answer to "where did you live?" was "Dumbledore House" and I'd note that I did not recall any buildings at Princeton named after Harry Potter characters, they'd just roll with it, either telling me "Oh, it's new!" or "Not many people know about it!" or even "That's just what we called it. I forget the real name!"

But it never seemed to dawn on them that I knew they were full of shit and, say, they'd pull another one of their hair colorist friends over and say "we were just reminiscing about our time at Princeton! I can't believe we never knew each other!"

Makes you think this story from 2021 was also fake: he claimed they had to flee their home and his fiancé was fired from his pharmacist job when the NYT published their Instagram photo from Mar-A-Lago. The fiancé (now "husband Matt"?) is also a bit roly-poly, it seems, though more diminutive than George.

R223 98% chance of being fake, I'd say. So dramatic and over the top.

Miss Santos will not resign, however; McCarthy needs his vote!!

He was investigated before the election by a local newspaper reporter (forgot the paper and the name of the reporter). The NYT finally looked at their article AFTER the election, and began their own investigation - and now taking the full credit. Shame on them !

by Anonymousreply 230December 21, 2022 3:28 PM

The level of lying and fakery is off the charts even for a politician. I've never seen anything like it. Log Cabin NY endorsed this guy. They need to withdraw that and demand his resignation.

by Anonymousreply 235December 21, 2022 7:33 PM

So now to summarize:

George Santos, the newly-elected GOP Congressman from NYC, lied about his education, his previous jobs, the charity he founded, his income, and perhaps even his last name. He may not even be half-Jewish as he claims. He desperately tried to check every box to appeal to voters. He is linked closely to a Russian oligarch and has tons of money mysteriously procured.

by Anonymousreply 236December 21, 2022 7:44 PM

"Santos listed on his 2022 financial disclosure a salary of $750,000 this year and last at the Devolder Organization, which Santos has claimed is a “family firm” managing $80 million in assets. A search for the Devolder Organization found that the business was registered in Florida in 2021 and was most recently temporarily deemed “inactive” by the state after failing to file the required annual reports. A website or LinkedIn profile could not be found, and Santos failed to report any of the clients he served in his financial disclosure."

So he's broke too.

The fact he had shady finances was buried somewhere deep in this barrage of Trump! Abortion! TRUMP! ABORTION!”

Not really getting at anything, it’s just been bugging me that he looks so familiar and I couldn’t figure out why, but the picture in R253 jogged my memory and the people he reminds me of are neither Brazilian nor Ashkenazi. He could certainly be Roman Catholic from Brazil. Sometimes people with no shared ethnic background look a lot alike.

Since his father has Angolan ancestry, it’s only a matter of time before Santos claims that his family had to pass to escape discrimination and, under normal circumstances, he’d be able to weather the storm with GOP aplomb.

Santos, who has called himself “half Jewish” and a “Latino Jew” in media appearances, has claimed his maternal grandfather was originally from Ukraine and fled to Brazil to escape Nazism. In another telling, the New York Republican said his grandparents converted to Catholicism during the rise of Nazism in Belgium after fleeing Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union. In another telling, he claimed his family changed their name to survive Nazism.

r290 comparing this clown to AOC - so funny

by Anonymousreply 296December 22, 2022 3:48 AM

Her biography morphs and changes when fact-checked, so it's hard to know which parts are true. Don't tell me you think she's just a feisty bartender from the Bronx who decided to challenge the system, do you?

It's not like she spends her time writing and passing legislation, and neither will Mr. Santos.

by Anonymousreply 297December 22, 2022 4:21 AM

R297, AOC didn't lie about her education, her employment history, whether she knew anyone who'd been killed in a shooting, what non-profit charities she started, etc., etc. There is no comparison, and you know it, so cut the shit.

“David Copperfield couldn’t have done it better!”

by Anonymousreply 305December 22, 2022 9:20 AM

OMG, he was married to a woman as well.

"According to court records obtained by The Daily Beast, Santos appears to be the subject of a previously unacknowledged Sept. 2019 divorce with a woman in Queens County, New York. The divorce—which Santos has not discussed publicly—adds new uncertainty to his already shaky biographical and political claims.

“I am openly gay, have never had an issue with my sexual identity in the past decade, and I can tell you and assure you, I will always be an advocate for LGBTQ folks,” Santos told USA Today in October, responding to criticism about his support for Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay Bill” signed into law this year by GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis."

by Anonymousreply 306December 22, 2022 9:26 AM

"New York court records show that, in 2019, someone named George Devolder Santos, with a second initial of “A,” finalized an uncontested divorce with Uadla Santos Vieira Santos. Public records searches only reveal one person in the United States with that name.

Uadla Santos and George Santos did not reply to calls or questions sent via text message to numbers associated with them. (A deed for a $750,000 house purchase in Union County, New Jersey, this June lists Uadla Santos as the buyer, and says she is married; she is the only purchaser listed on the property documents.)"

The bio also says 'George’s mother was in her office in the South Tower' on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

“'She survived the horrific events of that day, but unfortunately passed away a few years later”—about 15 years later.'"

So he's even invoking a connection to 9-11--more bullshit, no doubt.

by Anonymousreply 325December 22, 2022 1:39 PM

R310, unbelievable!

by Anonymousreply 326December 22, 2022 1:40 PM

His name: Devolder to Devolder-Santos to Santos.

His mother’s profession: first female executive at financial institution—she was a nurse.

His mother’s death: she was in the south tower on 9/11, survived, but then died a few years later—she wasn’t in the south tower and died 15 years after 9/11.

His family’s immigration and religion: they fled to Brazil from Belgium to avoid religious persecution for their Jewish faith—his great grandparents were born in Brazil and were Catholic.

His sexuality: he says he’s gay and married to a man named Matt—he’s divorced in 2019 from a woman with whom he possibly has a daughter and is not married to a man.

His education: he says he went to Baruch College—he did not.

His employment: he says he worked for Goldman Sachs—he did not.

His home: he says he is selling his home in the Hampton—he rents in Queens and his been evicted twice in recent years.

His connection to tragedies: he says 4 of his employees were shot at Pulse—he had no employees to be shot anywhere.

His financial assets: he reported millions in assets from a company that has no activity, including customers or even a website. He gave his campaign $700K only a year after reporting on disclosure forms an annual income of $55K from his job at a company that holds conferences for people who want to learn to invest.

I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting.

by Anonymousreply 328December 22, 2022 1:56 PM

His charitable work. He says he started a pet rescue but there’s no such company registered and the supposed recipient of a fundraiser he held says they received no donations.

by Anonymousreply 330December 22, 2022 2:02 PM

Assuming the Uadla Santos in the photo above is the same as was married to George according to the Daily Beast article (and seems to have taken his name), her daughter Beatriz (2 years old at Thanksgiving 2020) was at least his stepdaughter for a year or so until they divorced in 2019—possibly biological daughter.

by Anonymousreply 331December 22, 2022 2:38 PM
(and seems to have taken his name)

Weirdly it seems more likely that he took *her* name.

by Anonymousreply 332December 22, 2022 2:40 PM

Usually if you marry and take your spouse's surname, that comes after your original surname. E.g. Sen. Catherine Cortez married Paul Masto, so became Catherine Cortez Masto. George went from Devolder to Devolder Santos to Santos.

by Anonymousreply 333December 22, 2022 2:43 PM

McCarthy needs this chump's vote on January 3rd. After that, maybe he'll dump him and call for a special election.

McCarthy also has a razor-thin majority, and can't afford to lose a seat for months during a special election.

The seat might also flip blue, given the depths of this scandal and the strong Democratic candidate waiting to run again.

Santos' lies are mountainous and shameful, but most aren't exactly illegal. It's not against the law to live a life built entirely on lies. His finances will be examined by the IRS, the House Ethics Committee, and possibly the US Attorney. And if they find dirt, he will be forced out.

by Anonymousreply 334December 22, 2022 2:48 PM

Good point, R332!

This story is so convoluted.

by Anonymousreply 335December 22, 2022 2:52 PM

R334, I don't think McCarthy will dump him even after January 3. The GOP have zero shame. What will play out (I think, anyway), is that this scumbag liar will serve out the next 2 years and will be replaced by a Demcratic candidate who will beat his ass in an election. I believe he's only got 2 years to serve, correct?

This will all change if they manage to haul him in front of an invesitgating committee. I would very much like to know how a guy who was evicted a year before found $750k to pay his own campaign.

by Anonymousreply 336December 22, 2022 2:56 PM

R334, I believe that it *is* illegal to make false statements on declarations of candidacy and other official documents, which Georgie seems to have done.

by Anonymousreply 337December 22, 2022 2:58 PM

The Repugs want to have fake investigations going into their majority in the House? Well, here's a real one Democrats can have to counter the nonsense of the 'pugs.

by Anonymousreply 338December 22, 2022 3:01 PM

R337 Those violations, if prosecuted, typically result in fines or ethical sanctions, rather than jail time. He won't be locked away for voting in Queens when he actually lives in Hempstead or wherever.

The federal forms are the real biggies. They WILL prosecute, and he could see jail time or at least a felony conviction there.

by Anonymousreply 339December 22, 2022 3:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 343December 22, 2022 3:11 PM

It's got to be uncommon if they could only find one person with that name.

by Anonymousreply 344December 22, 2022 3:17 PM

From The NY Times:

"Representative-elect Dan Goldman, a Democrat from New York City and a former assistant U.S. attorney, said in an interview on Wednesday that he believed there were two possible federal crimes that prosecutors should investigate.

The first issue, he said, was whether Mr. Santos had willfully and intentionally made false statements in his financial disclosure forms. Such a violation, he said, would require investigators to make sure that there was a clear and knowing intent to omit or misrepresent information.

“As someone who had to make those disclosures, they’re done under penalty of perjury,” Mr. Goldman said.

But Mr. Goldman, who was the chief investigator in the first impeachment case against former President Donald J. Trump, said that he believed the authorities should explore whether Mr. Santos’s apparent misstatements could be considered part of a conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Such a charge would be an aggressive approach, Mr. Goldman said. "

Michelangelo Signorile has done a little more digging after the Daily Beast story and reports in his newsletter:
I can confirm that the couple was married in Manhattan on August 2, 2012 ... it would mean that Santos was married to a woman for the majority of years he has claimed he was “openly gay” and “never had an issue with my sexual identity in the past decade,” as he told USA Today this past October.

He also notes that
Mellisa Weiss, who broke the Jewish Insider story, tweeted out this morning that a man she spoke with who said he dated Santos in 2014 said he “promised the world including citizenship for marrying him.”

What a sleazoid.

by Anonymousreply 353December 22, 2022 4:08 PM

Especially when we all leave a digital trail of our backgrounds.

Someone tweeted a response to liar Santos' claim that "all will be explained in a week": "Why is it going to take a week to tell the truth?"

Short answer: it will take him a week to make up enough bullshit to attempt to cover up every lie he's told. But he can't. He's fucked in that department.

The move comes after CUNY informed some 2,800 employees -- most of them adjunct professors and part-time staff -- across its 25 colleges and universities… that they would not be reappointed in the fall due to cost-cutting measures in anticipation of state and city funding cuts. CUNY said the cuts were necessitated by the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. Media coverage was NOT focused on this race. That's part of the issue. It was in just one corner of a vast metropolitan area. There was no particular reason to be suspicious of his claim to have graduated from Baruch, which is not the greatest of feats. If I worked there I wouldn't have given it a thought at the time. He picked his fake alma mater wisely, as others have said. It's a nice immigrant success story. Pleading poverty to get funeral costs covered. Also Catholic, not Jewish.

"CBS News has spoken with a pastor, Father Jose Carlos da Silva, of Saint Rita's Catholic Church, in Long Island City, Queens, who says he knew Santos' family, the Devolders, well. The Devolders came to the church once in a while, he told CBS News. The family, including George Santos, was Catholic, says da Silva.

He also said that when Santos' mother, Fatima Devolder, died in 2016, Santos approached him to ask for help from the church. Da Silva had ministered to the family during Devolder's illness, and soon after she died, Santos told da Silva that the family couldn't afford a funeral.

A memorial mass was held at the church, which held a collection for the family. Da Silva said he didn't count the money collected, but recalled that the amount raised was significant, and that he handed the collection directly to Santos. But da Silva's portrayal of the family's financial condition is at odds with the biography presented by Santos."

Using animals to scam people:

She remained friends with him on Facebook for years after he left Dish, and remembered him sharing fundraisers for an animal rescue group he said he created, sometimes asking for donations via PayPal.

The legitimacy of the charity, Friends of Pets United (FOPU), has since faced scrutiny after news outlets failed to find evidence it was a registered nonprofit in New York or Florida. Hurdas told Patch she never thought the charity "made sense."

“It started out of nowhere and he was posting constantly trying to get donations on his personal Facebook account and in a private group,” she remembered.

R401, he was living with a boyfriend in 2014 when he was "married" to his wife. It was probably a sham or green card marriage

by Anonymousreply 418December 23, 2022 6:03 PM

R427, back at Dish Network, when he was just starting out, he claimed to a co-worker that he was born in Brazil (and used at least four different names). I don't think anyone has yet confirmed where he was born. To be a Representative, you have to have been a US citizen for at least seven years. You also don't have to live in your district, but you at least need to be a resident of the state you purport to represent.

We don't know what prompted the NYT to finally dig into his story, do we? There were a lot of suspicions re him, but that's been true for a while. It seems like there is an alternative scenario here in which he gets sworn into Congress and is functioning for a while before this story breaks, if it does at all. If he had been more established I think he would have had a better chance of surviving all this. If it turns out there are financial crimes -which there may be- then probably not, but it seems like the NYT story -while very late- could have come even later with maybe different results. There are some sitting members of Congress who've been revealed to have lied about some of their resume -OK, not THIS much- and survived.

by Anonymousreply 437December 24, 2022 12:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 438December 24, 2022 3:59 PM

Santos appears to be like Pandora’s box. Once they lifted the lid on this sleazy MF a whole lot of very bad things came flying out. His history would indicate that he has likely committed a sufficient number of provable crimes that should be enough to boot him from office. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that spineless slug Kevin McCarthy to do anything. He needs every vote that he can find in his frenzied attempt to become Speaker of the House. And the rest of the GQP Criminal Caucus — Gym Jordan, BoBo, Gaetz, Large Marge, etc. — isn’t going to turn on one of their own: a true-red lying, deceiving MAGAt.

by Anonymousreply 447December 24, 2022 6:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 478December 25, 2022 4:08 PM

GOP establishment -such as it is these days- failed to do their job here, just like Dems and media. Had they vetted him early and gotten a more respectable GOP nominee, they would have had this seat for two years minimum, with no embarrassment and an incumbent with a shot at holding it in two years when they could lose control of the House and every race counts.

by Anonymousreply 479December 25, 2022 4:17 PM

On one hand that the GOP knew and were so desperate for their RED WAVE that they went ahead with him anyway is disgusting and should be disqualifying in and of itself.

But the way more details keep emerging every 36 hours also indicates that this psychopath was in it so deep that it's impossible for anyone to know what is true about him.
It’s a dizzyingly complex paper trail that reveals a network of companies operated out of a condo and the gynecological practice in Florida. At the center of it all is Santos’ supposed “family” firm, which, he’s suggested in financial disclosures, helped him earn a massive raise in recent years just as he poured money into his own run for Congress.
Some of the prior reporting on Santos by both Mother Jones and The Daily Beast delved into his business ties. However, our research has unearthed a slew of new details. Santos and his attorney did not respond to multiple requests for comment on this story.

I doubt Republicans giving blind quotes to the NY Post after the fact knew everything about him. It's really off the charts stuff. But it should not have gotten to this point and it didn't have to.
his claim to have graduated from Baruch, which is not the greatest of feats.

Untrue. Baruch isn’t Harvard, but >70% of those who apply don’t get in. It’s an affordable MBA program, which makes it important. You can get a good job after getting an MBA from there. Same with Albert Einstein School of Medicine and Stony Brook School of Medicine. No, they’re not Yale or Johns Hopkins, but they’re affordable because they’re state schools, thus they are quite competitive. And when you graduate you’re called “Dr” just like the people who graduate from private med schools.

My dr didn’t even go to med school - she went to a school of osteopathy and she makes @ $1M a year. But we were just talking about how she’d have been smarter to go to Stony Brook dental school because she’d be making at least $1.5M/yr.

Who’s that baby’s daddy?

by Anonymousreply 485December 25, 2022 9:05 PM

R485, a promise from “George Santos,” though, means exactly nothing. And I’ll bet that not only does McCarthy not know the full extent of what George has done, he doesn’t have a clue as to what he might do next.

by Anonymousreply 486December 25, 2022 9:29 PM

Einstein is not a State school nudnik. Einstein was the medical school of the very private Yeshiva University. However, it was going to bankrupt Yeshiva so they cut it loose and now the affiliated Hospital Montefiore oversees it. It was and remains private. (Downstate is the State medical School in NYC.) And DOs are medical doctors. And the acceptance rate at Baruch is about 40%.

-Lying about having a college degree

-Lying about working for Citi and Goldman Sachs

-Lying about being totally cool with being gay for the last 10 years (he was married to a woman)

-Lying about owning 13 different properties (he currently lives with his sister)

-Admits to being a deadbeat tenant and bouncing a check

Still no real explanation for the money:
Meanwhile, Santos said the $11 million in assets reported in his financial disclosure report filed in September are tied to his Devolder consulting firm. “All of my finances come from the firm. The assets are the contracts with the firm,” he told The Post. His campaign committee, Devolder-Santos for Congress, also reported that he personally loaned his campaign more than $600,000 to his victorious campaign.
Although Santos contends he hasn't committed any crimes in doing so, some legal analysts say the list of potential charges he could face goes beyond false statements about his financial disclosure; the congressman-elect could be also charged with wire fraud. But he would not have been the first. (IMHO), this is what warrants an investigation. The amount of money that poured into quite a few Republican (and maybe Democrats) campaign coffers. At least one of his fellow Republicans is calling for an investigation into Santos' lies

What we do and don't know about Santos?

by Anonymousreply 569December 27, 2022 11:42 PM

Oh, and by the way, his campaign expense report had almost 50 line items at $199.00

If ABC was smart they'd kick start production on a new sitcom starring Santos.

In the vein of Black-ish, Mixed-ish and Grown-ish now comes: Jew-ish!

by Anonymousreply 571December 28, 2022 12:15 AM

I think giving tax exemption receipts for a fake charity has to be seriously illegal. I note Santos hasn't addressed his "charity" and suspect a reason for that.

Since we are discussing Victor Vekelsberg, this is where I remind everyone that 1) IDT is the Israeli company started by the people who invented the technology which hides where phone calls are coming from (remember when phone cards were new?) 2) IDT sold their Russian operation to Victor Vekelsberg's Renova Group in a deal brokered by Deutsche Bank. 3) Also heavily involved in the deal and flying back and forth to Russia was IDT's CFO. 4) The (now former) IDT CFO then worked for a "non-traditional lender" in Queens. 5) That job was followed by being the first White House CFO of the Trump administration, which is quite a step up when you think about it.

Will he vote for Speaker?

by Anonymousreply 573December 28, 2022 12:36 AM

this cunt has botox

by Anonymousreply 574December 28, 2022 12:40 AM

Santos is not a CUNT he is CUNTISH.

Yeah, Tulsi stepped up and destroyed this bloated, lying fraud. There is no way that he should be seated in the House next week. And, that weasel McCarthy should have Santos tied to him. Reporters should ask him how he can support Santos given George’s well documented history of lying.

by Anonymousreply 577December 28, 2022 1:42 AM

I normally won't watch any clips from Faux News, but I made an exception -and was proud of the way Tulsi Gabbard held his feet to the fire. EVERY news should should do the same. He is throwing more BS out there, and not really owning up to his wrongdoing. Seating him in the House will be an absolute disgrace.

by Anonymousreply 578December 28, 2022 1:50 AM

"Everybody makes a mistake in thier life", A mistake? A boo boo? This is an ongoing con. A rip off. Shyster.

by Anonymousreply 579December 28, 2022 5:26 AM

r579, yep. This guy has been lying for years and committing crimes for years

by Anonymousreply 580December 28, 2022 5:29 AM

Sure has R580 & R579. A real weasel.

Unbelievable that he is still allowed to take public office.

by Anonymousreply 581December 28, 2022 5:35 AM

If he's done some actual thieving, with the pet charity or the pyramid scheme, he should be in jail. And it'd be interesting to see who the hell LinkBridge Investments really is and if he scammed them along the way, or if LinkBridge is shady and is using him. Nothing about this seems right.

by Anonymousreply 582December 28, 2022 5:53 AM

This shows that Republicans have no standards at all. Criminal mafia, period. The party should be prosecuted under the RICO act.

by Anonymousreply 583December 28, 2022 6:02 AM

Neither party would have allowed this man to represent them in Congress 25 years ago. I'm shocked people like Mitt Romney haven't made it completely clear they oppose any effort to seat him in Congress.

He's an embarrassment to the Republican Party.

by Anonymousreply 584December 28, 2022 6:56 AM

Mitt has his hands full with his MAGA-cunt daughter.

by Anonymousreply 585December 28, 2022 7:02 AM

^What daughter, R585? If you mean Ronna McDaniel. That's his niece.

by Anonymousreply 586December 28, 2022 11:20 AM

Romney can't do anything. Santos is allowed to take office and almost certainly will (because he needs the money).

by Anonymousreply 587December 28, 2022 11:23 AM

Santos can not take office because he's misrepresented himself in every way and his constituency deserve a representative who is responsible and accountable.

by Anonymousreply 588December 28, 2022 11:33 AM
Santos can not take office

He can. It's not what you want to believe or think should be (and I agree) but it's the fact of the matter.

by Anonymousreply 589December 28, 2022 11:39 AM

Who can dismiss a congressman? Would he need to be impeached and convicted?

His offenses are ground for legal and immediate dismissal from any company, public or private.

He will be pressured to resign after McCarthy gets his Speakership, not before. He does not need to give into that pressure however.

by Anonymousreply 590December 28, 2022 11:56 AM

There needs to be a part 2 of this thread. This show is just really getting started.

But can't Republicans simply refuse to seat Santos? This will now become more about them and the party than Santos. It's not like it hasn't been done before. Pennsylvania Republicans refused to seat a Democrat (Jim Brewster} and that was just politics--unacceptable politics.

Tulsi, you in danger, girl! Avoid hotel rooms above the second floor and for God's sake don't drink any tea!

Large Marge to the rescue (with lies about Swalwell, Warren, Omar, George Floyd and COVID)!
Greene went on to accuse Assistant Health Secretary Rachel Levine, who is transgender, of "lying" about her gender. She then took aim at Democratic Representatives Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, along with outgoing National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci.
Greene also repeated falsehoods about COVID-19 vaccines and argued that the House January 6 committee had "lied" by accusing former President Donald Trump and other Republicans of having "organized an insurrection."
[bold] "The left doesn't care about lying," Greene tweeted. "The real reason they're attacking George Santos is that he the first openly gay Republican elected and they hate him for it. [/bold]

Here's a part II for your consideration.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 595December 28, 2022 12:51 PM

Thanks, R595.

So, here are my questions...

He's going to need staff. Who will work for him and what would you think of the people who would work for him?

by Anonymousreply 596December 28, 2022 1:19 PM

The same as we thought of the staff who worked for Dump R596.

by Anonymousreply 597December 28, 2022 1:20 PM

Trump lied about not being a rapist, and he was able to take office.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 598December 28, 2022 1:36 PM

I might be missing some nuance, R596, but I believe that staffs get recycled--largely in alignment with donor bases and allegiances.

So, he would end up with staffers assigned to him by whoever paid for him and, say someone like Lee Zeldin or Peter King.

by Anonymousreply 599December 28, 2022 1:36 PM

"He's an embarrassment to the Republican Party."

R584, the Republican Party is an embarrassment to the Republican Party.
