by Anonymousreply 13November 30, 2022 6:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 22November 30, 2022 6:56 PM

This makes me sad, she's my favorite vocalist from Fleetwood Mac.

by Anonymousreply 23November 30, 2022 6:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 54November 30, 2022 8:06 PM

[QUOTE] She was useless to the band

Actually she was the one who blew coke up Stevie's butt with a straw. So she had a function.

by Anonymousreply 55November 30, 2022 8:07 PM

She had Lindsay Buckingham. She made loving fun.

by Anonymousreply 56November 30, 2022 8:08 PM

^ Did those two ever actually hook up? I recall both of them denying it.

by Anonymousreply 57November 30, 2022 8:10 PM

R57, why not? They had such chemistry together in the studio, since they were the two best musicians. And I loved their duets, my favorite being "Hold Me". In fact, "Hold Me" is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, especially because of Christine's beautiful piano solo. (Lindsey's guitar solo is beautiful, too.

by Anonymousreply 58November 30, 2022 8:25 PM

Miss Christine was SEVENTY-NINE years old! How can that be?? It's hard to accept these musical icons are now elderly people.

Guess we should expect all the 60s and 70s rockers to start dropping like flies over the next few years.

by Anonymousreply 61November 30, 2022 9:04 PM

The know nothing ignoramuses can spread their dirty assholes over this thread all they want.

BUT

It was Christine's arrival, and her piano based songwriting, that led them on a more commercial, mainstream path, away from the more blues-based band they had been.

Her compositions were always an important part of the band, and everything gelled when Buckingham/Nicks joined the band.

by Anonymousreply 62November 30, 2022 9:13 PM

Wow, wasn't expecting that one. They said a "brief illness". Wonder how the surviving bandmates feel now, since they couldn't get that final reunion together.

I though Buckingham would go first, from that group, given his recent serious health issues.

She and Buckingham were actually close, she was his closest friend and supporter in the band.

by Anonymousreply 63November 30, 2022 9:22 PM

Yay!

by Anonymousreply 64November 30, 2022 9:23 PM

Christine had a soulful and sometimes haunting voice. Just lovely. Poor Stevie always sounds like she's having a seizure.

by Anonymousreply 65November 30, 2022 9:24 PM

That's too bad. Her songs were lighthearted and fun.

by Anonymousreply 66November 30, 2022 9:25 PM

I never got into Fleetwood Mac, and while I think she's one of the coolest, most genuine celebrities out there, I never got into the cult of Stevie Nicks, either. But there is one Fleetwood Mac song I love, and Christine McVie is responsible for it. You can find that song at R17.

by Anonymousreply 70November 30, 2022 9:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 73November 30, 2022 9:35 PM

I am not suggesting that she and Lindsay were not great together musically, I am saying there has been absolutely no evidence that I am aware of that the two ever had a sexual relationship and in fact, I think both have denied it in the past.

by Anonymousreply 74November 30, 2022 9:37 PM

Her songs were my favorite, I discovered them in that 10-15 years. I had only know Stevie vocal songs.

by Anonymousreply 83November 30, 2022 10:13 PM

How is Stevie going to make this all about herself?

by Anonymousreply 84November 30, 2022 10:14 PM

I have never heard a whisper that she and Lindsey did the rumpy pumpy and I went through a period of obsessive FM stanning in my youth. Further, Christine was very close to Stevie for decades; just doesn't seem like her style. That's not to say that CMV didn't have her messy period with that erstwhile Beach Boy, but after his death she pretty much straightened up and flew right.

by Anonymousreply 85November 30, 2022 10:33 PM

My favorite Christine song.

[quote] How is Stevie going to make this all about herself?

She'll make a big deal about how much she loved Christine and how much she'll miss her and that they were lifelong friends, blah, blah, blah. But that's all bullshit. They had to spend a lot of time together because they were in the same band, but I never heard anywhere that they were good friends, or even friends at all.

by Anonymousreply 87November 30, 2022 10:34 PM

R87, you don't know what you're talking about. They shared a dressing room for many, many tours. It wasn't a question of budget, as FM went supernova directly after the release of the White Album and they had plenty of money for separate dressing rooms. That's a level of intimacy that only people who enjoy each other's company would accept. They fell out more recently but there's no question they were very close for a long time. I'm sad for Stevie that she didn't get the chance to make up with her before she passed. It's clear this was a bit of a surprise, as much as these things can be at 79, anyhow.

by Anonymousreply 88November 30, 2022 10:37 PM

So sad. A true loss. She truly was the Dancing Queen.

by Anonymousreply 89November 30, 2022 10:40 PM

Did they actually fall out? I figured they just had a dynamic where when they're working/on tour, they were close and the connection they had immediately came back but on their downtime they went back to their separate lives.

by Anonymousreply 90November 30, 2022 10:41 PM

R84- Stevie made a HORRIBLE song about Martin Luther King and world politics of the last decade BEING ABOUT HER.

Of course this will be all about her.~~~~~~

Stevie is one of the most sheltered egomaniacs left on the planet today. (At least she can be endearing - sometimes)~~~~~

by Anonymousreply 96November 30, 2022 11:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 97November 30, 2022 11:05 PM

Yes, the handwriting of a 14-year-old girl.

by Anonymousreply 98November 30, 2022 11:05 PM

I'm sure the band members are feeling morose. They toured for years and spent a lot of time in the studio. I imagine you become sort of a weird family.

by Anonymousreply 99November 30, 2022 11:06 PM

I think Stevie's tribute is lovely.

by Anonymousreply 100November 30, 2022 11:07 PM

You are the dancing queen only 79.

by Anonymousreply 101November 30, 2022 11:07 PM

Stevie admitting to not speaking to Christine, not even knowing she was ill, on Instagram, is telling. She’s a self-centered cunt.

by Anonymousreply 103November 30, 2022 11:09 PM

I’m glad someone else noticed the juvenile handwriting. My god, she’s in her 70s and still fighting with Lindsey like a scorned teenage girl. She demanded Lindsey be thrown out of the group because she caught him laughing with Christine behind her back while making a speech. Does she not remember that she wouldn’t even have a career if it weren’t for Lindsey? He was the one who said he wouldn’t join the band if they didn’t also take him girlfriend, Stevie.

by Anonymousreply 104November 30, 2022 11:10 PM

Was she double boosted and then infected with covid? I'm collecting data on here.

by Anonymousreply 105November 30, 2022 11:10 PM

Laughing at all the Stevie hate on this thread, that band was NOTHING without her and Lyndsey.

by Anonymousreply 106November 30, 2022 11:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 111November 30, 2022 11:14 PM

She resembled Renee Geyer. Maybe Renee can sub in future tours.

by Anonymousreply 112November 30, 2022 11:15 PM

r106 Many people prefer the band before she and "Lyndsey" came along.

by Anonymousreply 113November 30, 2022 11:17 PM

R113= Peter Greene from beyond.

by Anonymousreply 114November 30, 2022 11:19 PM

Stevie and Lindsey/Christine fell out because Stevie postponed an FM tour to do solo shows. They were fighting about money. All the dissension and bullshit in that group has been about money since around 1990; they were too old for it to be about sex and drugs by that point. The "Lindsey laughing at Stevie with Christine" thing is new to me...

by Anonymousreply 115November 30, 2022 11:21 PM

Was the duo album with Lindsay a true collaboration or did they trade off solo songs?

by Anonymousreply 116November 30, 2022 11:21 PM

Christine had a warm singing voice and I appreciated it.

by Anonymousreply 117November 30, 2022 11:28 PM

I never heard Christine McVie EVER say that she and Nicls were "close." Nicks would try to make seem like they were really, really good friends but Stevie Nicks is full of bullshit. They had to spend a lot of time together and make an effort to get along because they were in a money making band. But they didn't really like each other. As Christine McVie once said about her and Nicks: "We don't socialize muc."

by Anonymousreply 123November 30, 2022 11:43 PM

I nominate Harry Styles to take Christine's place in the band.

79 isn't super old but it's far from young.

These days, I'll read someone has died and I'll wonder oh what happened?

A lot of time, it's just old age now :(

by Anonymousreply 144December 1, 2022 12:36 AM

I never cared for her voice; to me she sounded like the female version of Michael McDonald. I did think she was an excellent songwriter.

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 145December 1, 2022 12:37 AM

I'm sure Stevie is devastated - these two were bandmates and yes, close professional friends for 45 years. But she has a strange habit of making her friends' deaths all about her. Remember how she acted after Tom Petty died, parading around like she was the Widow Petty while his actual wife languished in the wings. I hope not to see a repeat of that.

by Anonymousreply 146December 1, 2022 12:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 157December 1, 2022 1:04 AM

R154 Read your post at R135. You "had no idea that scoliosis could kill you"

Because it can't, you moron

by Anonymousreply 158December 1, 2022 1:04 AM

Irene Cara R119. Have you been under a rock.

by Anonymousreply 159December 1, 2022 1:04 AM

She had a stick put in her back. Unfortunately over time chemicals leached out from it and that's what did her in.

by Anonymousreply 160December 1, 2022 1:05 AM

Mick Fleetwood had a lovely tribute to Christine:

[quote] “This is a day where my dear sweet Friend Christine McVie has taken to flight… and left us earthbound folks to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that ‘song bird,’ reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us… Part of my heart has flown away today.”

by Anonymousreply 161December 1, 2022 1:05 AM

It was chems what did her in!?

by Anonymousreply 162December 1, 2022 1:06 AM

Christine kicked a girl in the cunt bone once.

by Anonymousreply 163December 1, 2022 1:09 AM

She was 79, ffs. She outlived the average American by two years so a long life. Good for her.

by Anonymousreply 164December 1, 2022 1:11 AM

Was it a fractured cunt bone?

by Anonymousreply 165December 1, 2022 1:12 AM

She couldn't last forever.

by Anonymousreply 166December 1, 2022 1:12 AM

I presume she damaged her spine when she fell from her broomstick.

by Anonymousreply 167December 1, 2022 1:54 AM

I used to listen to “Say You Love Me” and all the rest of the FM catalogue on vinyl with this guy…we had more drama than Fleetwood Mac, with none of the talent. The music and Christine’s voice, which you hear more in the (fabulous) back catalogue songs, brings me right back to those nights.

I was so, so happy to see them all tour together in the 2010s. Even if it all fell apart again when they remembered why they couldn’t stick together in the first place. Where’s my prestige drama about the Mac????

by Anonymousreply 168December 1, 2022 2:02 AM

UPON HEARING THE SAD NEWS OF CHRISTINE McVIE'S DEATH, DIONNE WARWICK HAS BROKEN HER SILENCE :

“I got your number, hussy,” Warwick tweeted to Stevie Nicks.

by Anonymousreply 169December 1, 2022 2:08 AM

[quote] I never cared for her voice; to me she sounded like the female version of Michael McDonald. I did think she was an excellent songwriter.

That's an apt comparison but I love Michael McDonald and Christine. Christine was a young British girl very influenced by Black American blues music. Her vocal style was her attempt at being Etta James or Irma Thomas.

by Anonymousreply 170December 1, 2022 2:14 AM

R170 "Her vocal style was her attempt at being Etta James"

What??

by Anonymousreply 171December 1, 2022 2:18 AM

She covered "I'd Rather Be Blind" but she sounded nothing like Etta James.

by Anonymousreply 172December 1, 2022 2:52 AM

Her version of "I'd Rather Go Blind" with her first band, Chicken Shack, was the first time her voice was heard by a wide audience.

It was a sizable (top 15) hit in the UK in '69.

For sure she's no Etta James, but she brings a certain classy, restrained, unmistakably British soulfulness to the song.

I don't care much for that rock and roll music, but at least she knew how to keep her weight under control, unlike that other girl in the group, who became a huge porker.

by Anonymousreply 175December 1, 2022 3:07 AM

R174 I love this one so, so much

[quote] that band was NOTHING without her and Lyndsey.

Oh Daddy, I mean, oh dear!

by Anonymousreply 177December 1, 2022 4:20 AM

This one hurts. She had the MOST top ten hits in the band but got over shadowed by the ego MANIAC Stevie. But Christine preferred to do her thing and be a musician in the backround and sing her share of the songs. Stevie has already made this about herself. MY BEST FRIEND. They didn't even talk much when they weren't working. STFU. Also Stevie ruined the last chance the band had to tour together. BTW everyone thought John Mcvie would be the first. Well now i have a feeling it's going to be Stevie and Mick as the last standing even though they did the most drugs.

by Anonymousreply 178December 1, 2022 5:58 AM

Yeah, yeah, the Stevie and Lindsey drama is fine, but my girl Christine held it DOWN. Love her harmonies. She was really such an integral part of their amazing sound.

Over My Head was the first American hit from the white Fleetwood Mac album. Her vocals, as always, were beautiful. I think it's been my favorite song since I first heard it. Her death makes me very sad.

by Anonymousreply 181December 1, 2022 9:01 AM

I'm sorry, who?

by Anonymousreply 182December 1, 2022 9:07 AM

She was my second favourite writer in the band, after Lindsey. I also love the way their voices blend on Don't Stop. Lindsey wrote the weirder tracks on Tusk and Christine wrote straight pop / rock.

Stevie Nicks only has one song; she has just been re-writing Rhiannon for nearly 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 183December 1, 2022 9:22 AM

I would have let Lindsey impregnate me.

by Anonymousreply 184December 1, 2022 2:15 PM

Just hours before Christine died, Dionne Warwcik left this tender message on her voice mail:

“I got your number, hussy."

by Anonymousreply 185December 1, 2022 2:21 PM

Wio is this Dionne Warwick “I got your number, hussy” troll I am seeing in every thread?

by Anonymousreply 186December 1, 2022 3:13 PM

It's probably the AWF Troll. He's a White Canadian who pretends to be black.

by Anonymousreply 187December 1, 2022 3:37 PM

[quote] I also love the way their voices blend on Don't Stop.

Lindsey and Christine had a great vocal blend, especially on "Hold Me." Christine added the warmth to the Fleetwood Mac vocal mix.

by Anonymousreply 188December 1, 2022 4:18 PM

She was always the most low energy member of that band.

by Anonymousreply 189December 1, 2022 8:33 PM

R189 she was a masterful singer, songwriter, performer and was the heart of Fleetwood Mac. If you don’t know this, you know nothing about the band. There’s nothing wrong with low key (different from low energy), and she wasn’t about to have a contest with Stevie to see who can twirl shawls the fastest. That wasn’t Christine’s style.

by Anonymousreply 190December 1, 2022 8:39 PM

I do know the band very well. She was a great musician, songwriter/arranger and her voice was a wonderful foil to Lindsey and Stevie’s.. Great backup vocals.

But she always sounded weak to me, as a lead singer.

by Anonymousreply 191December 1, 2022 9:01 PM

"Brown Eyes" is a great track. Another Christine deep cut I love is "Mystified" off Tango in the Night.

She had herself sterilized, preferring to not have any children. I wonder who she's left her estate to.

by Anonymousreply 194December 1, 2022 11:57 PM

Lindsey's all like "fuck you Stevie, MY handwritten note is BETTER!"

by Anonymousreply 195December 1, 2022 11:57 PM

Stevie’s and Lindsey’s tributes can’t even escape their issues. Christine is rolling her eyes somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 196December 1, 2022 11:59 PM

R193, both Lindsey and Stevie both have middle schooler penmanship. And not award winning

by Anonymousreply 197December 1, 2022 11:59 PM

[quote]She had herself sterilized, preferring to not have any children.

As if she could've had children with all the drugs and booze running through her system.

by Anonymousreply 198December 1, 2022 11:59 PM

Lindsey's Nov 29 post suggests that he knew what was coming, even though he used a photo of himself.

The Rolling Stone article linked at R82 was interesting. Earlier this year, she considered the band "broken up". But of course, never say never.

by Anonymousreply 199December 2, 2022 12:21 AM

The band was informed this past weekend that Christine was ill and in hospital. They were told not to come by her family. I'm sure they were hoping for the best, but it wasn't a shock that she died since they knew she was very ill.

And yes that was Lindsey's way of hinting about it, since they were not going to make her condition public.

by Anonymousreply 200December 2, 2022 12:53 AM

Stevie’s handwritten note was more personal and heartfelt.

by Anonymousreply 201December 2, 2022 1:21 AM

Stevie's handwritten note was a lie.

by Anonymousreply 202December 2, 2022 1:29 AM

Christine was the classy one.

by Anonymousreply 203December 2, 2022 1:35 AM

If they only heard this weekend, then it was likely a shock.

by Anonymousreply 204December 2, 2022 1:38 AM

Christine was a low-key personality in comparison to Lindsey and Stevie but she was absolutely essential to Fleetwood Mac's sound and success. The group had 18 top 40 hits in the US; more than half of those were Christine's songs.

by Anonymousreply 205December 2, 2022 1:58 AM

[quote] Stevie's handwritten note was a lie.

I don't agree. Recording and touring and making music together are intimate acts. I think Stevie and Christine had a unique bond that was probably unlike any other bond either had in their life. During the 70s when Fleetwood Mac was the biggest band in the world and actively touring, the group management and record label -- the bosses -- required that after shows Stevie and Christine be sequestered in their rooms and protected (guarded) by armed security. Meanwhile the men in the group were allowed to carouse and bang all the groupies. That time spent seething and braiding each other's hair gave rise to a lifelong bond that Stevie considered a "friendship." I have work friends that I've travelled with for work-related events but I don't socialize with them away from work -- we have shared experiences not shared interests. Still, they are friends and longtime friends at that.

by Anonymousreply 206December 2, 2022 2:01 AM

Everything Stevie says is a lie. Including "and" & "the."

by Anonymousreply 207December 2, 2022 2:03 AM

was ill and in de hospital*

by Anonymousreply 208December 2, 2022 3:15 AM

I thought Lindsey's note was very sweet and not all about himself.

by Anonymousreply 209December 2, 2022 5:22 AM

When will cause of death be shared?

by Anonymousreply 210December 2, 2022 10:29 AM

I guess Stevie will be dedicating “Landscape” to Christine in her live concerts for the next couple of years…

by Anonymousreply 211December 2, 2022 10:47 AM

R211 As she should

by Anonymousreply 212December 2, 2022 11:09 AM

R211, OH DEAR!

It’s “Landslide.”

by Anonymousreply 213December 2, 2022 1:29 PM

[quote] I guess Stevie will be dedicating “Landscape” to Christine in her live concerts forever more until that frog voiced bitch croaks herself

Fixed it for you.

I'm sure Stevie will have just the right 45 minute story to lead into the 1 minute and 52 seconds where she sings Landscape, er, Landslide.

by Anonymousreply 214December 2, 2022 11:48 PM

I need to see Christine McVie’s handwriting!

by Anonymousreply 215December 2, 2022 11:54 PM

Lindsey’s handwritten note looks shaky, like an ill old person’s. Not middle school like Stevie’s.

by Anonymousreply 216December 2, 2022 11:54 PM

[quote] When will cause of death be shared?

Landslide

by Anonymousreply 217December 3, 2022 2:38 AM

{r201} Stevie ALWAYS makes it about her self. BEST FRIEND? Christine said they RARELY spoke when they weren't working LOL

by Anonymousreply 219December 4, 2022 3:53 AM

Maybe Christine was her best friend. But maybe Stevie's wasn't Christine's best friend.

by Anonymousreply 220December 4, 2022 4:14 AM

I would assume that John McVie knew Christine best of the people still living. Her second husband died almost 20 years ago, and she never had any kids, right?

by Anonymousreply 221December 12, 2022 1:07 AM

R221 Her second husband died almost 20 years ago, and she never had any kids, right?

by Anonymousreply 222December 12, 2022 1:09 AM

Strange how her face looked the same, aged and sagging, her entire life, from youth to old age.

Shades of Lily Savage.

O guess this means no more Fleetwood Mac reunions. I assume it was consdidered acceptable to replace Lindsay Buckingham, but to have another female singer replace Christine McVie, well, that would be unthinkable. And Stevie Nicks would never allow another woman in the band. I think she actually would have welcomed the idea of doing a tour where SHE was the only female in the band. She'd probably sing McVie's songs and bask in the undivided spotlight. But without McVie FM is OVER, finally. A good thing, too. They're all too ancident to be performing.

by Anonymousreply 226December 29, 2022 8:24 PM

actually Narci Nicks wanted Sheryl Crow at one point.

by Anonymousreply 227December 31, 2022 4:23 AM

[quote] actually Narci Nicks wanted Sheryl Crow at one point.

Sheryl Crow? SInging Christine McVie's songs? UGH! What a ghastly idea.

by Anonymousreply 228January 1, 2023 12:23 AM

R228- Luckily Lindsay said FUCK THAT SHIT! I think this was 2002-2005?

by Anonymousreply 229January 1, 2023 12:28 AM

I saw Fleetwood Mac a few years back after Christine had rejoined the band. I think it was 2014. It was Halloween night in Washington DC. My tickets were on the floor, in front of Christine's keyboards (not real close though). The energy was amazing, and Lindsey stole the show.

by Anonymousreply 230January 1, 2023 12:34 AM

It's weird entering a year where Christine McVie and Olivia Newton-John are either embalmed or dust. So many of the vital voices of my youth silenced by death. It was a better world with them here. Probably.

by Anonymousreply 231January 1, 2023 1:06 AM

Christine was a cool chick. Loved it when she wore that cub scout uniform.
