Democrats could still surprise and keep the House.

by Anonymousreply 1November 9, 2022 2:45 AM

Yeah, not holding my breath on that one.

by Anonymousreply 2November 9, 2022 2:50 AM

I might move to Arizona. Seems pretty cool

by Anonymousreply 3November 9, 2022 2:50 AM

From David Brooks:

With Spanberger pulling ahead in Va.-7 with almost all the votes counted, confirming the general trend of the night — a status quo election — Republicans have to be asking: If we can’t produce a red wave with superhigh inflation and the Democratic president’s low approval ratings, when can we produce a red wave? Democrats have been getting their recriminations in over the last few weeks. Now it may be the Republicans’ turn.

by Anonymousreply 4November 9, 2022 2:51 AM

Love it!

by Anonymousreply 5November 9, 2022 2:52 AM

I told my mom that Blake Masters was too slimy to win.

by Anonymousreply 6November 9, 2022 2:52 AM

According to Nate Cohn, the Republicans are underperforming everywhere except Florida.

by Anonymousreply 7November 9, 2022 2:52 AM

I would hate fuck Blake Masters...

by Anonymousreply 8November 9, 2022 2:53 AM

Fuck. Vance won.

by Anonymousreply 9November 9, 2022 2:55 AM

JD Vance wins Senate Race. Sucks!!

by Anonymousreply 10November 9, 2022 2:55 AM

Never allowed myself to think that Ohio was winnable.

by Anonymousreply 11November 9, 2022 2:56 AM

[quote]From David Brooks:

The only shithead whose view means even less to me than Brooks, is Bret Swine Stephens.

by Anonymousreply 12November 9, 2022 2:56 AM

Same, R11. Ohio is as red as Florida.

by Anonymousreply 13November 9, 2022 2:56 AM

Do NOT come to Ohio. We have become a right wing hellhole. Our Governor, who just won, has repeatedly announced he is against LGBT marriage and equality.

by Anonymousreply 14November 9, 2022 2:56 AM

Ohio was never winnable. The Senate there is split one democrat, and one Republican and that's the best we're probably going to do.

I live Half the year in South carolina, and have the year Ohio. The fervency of Trump support and rural Ohio is unbelievable. There's nothing like that in the south. Meanwhile, the cities keep trending bluer and bluer.

by Anonymousreply 15November 9, 2022 2:57 AM

Kansas just sent a lesbian Native American representative, Sharice Davids, back to the House.

Kansas.

The House is definitely still in play.

by Anonymousreply 16November 9, 2022 2:57 AM

Worst midterm performance by a party out of power in 2 decades, 3rd worst in 100 years. Fuck you, Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 17November 9, 2022 2:57 AM

The NYT needle is now back to forecasting a 49/51 Senate.

by Anonymousreply 18November 9, 2022 2:57 AM

I've been purposely not watching tonight because 2020 gave me heart palpitations. I just couldn't put myself through that again. Thank you, bitches, for bringing me all the news.

The country may not be lost yet.

by Anonymousreply 19November 9, 2022 2:58 AM

Gee, maybe Glenn shouldn't have made that movie humanizing JD.

by Anonymousreply 20November 9, 2022 2:58 AM

Here's the issue I have with the take of it being a bad night for Republicans. In the end, if Republicans win the Senate by whatever number (GOP will win the House), then that's all that matters. McConnell is going to stop Biden's judges and all that.

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2022 2:59 AM

[quote] Kansas just sent a lesbian Native American representative, Sharice Davids, back to the House.

Great, but not a pick-up.

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2022 2:59 AM

Walker inching uncomfortably close to 50%

by Anonymousreply 23November 9, 2022 2:59 AM

Walker down to 49.2. Run-off coming

by Anonymousreply 24November 9, 2022 2:59 AM

Wow, the Barnes / Johnson race is close. Even if Johnson wins, if it’s razor thin its gotta send a message.

by Anonymousreply 25November 9, 2022 3:00 AM

I wanted Tim Ryan to win Ohio but if he had won he would vote like another Joe Manchin and you all would have hated him. Still better than Vance but you would have complained about him like you do about Manchin.

by Anonymousreply 26November 9, 2022 3:00 AM

And not a loss, R22.

To orchestrate a wave or a wipeout, these are the kinds of seats Republicans needed to win easily.

And they're getting romped on by Dems.

by Anonymousreply 27November 9, 2022 3:01 AM

I just tweeted to GOP loser Hung Cao:

[quote]Wasn't able to vote cause I was still waiting on verificatia of Hungness. Please send pics in DM.

R24 49.5. The idiot will flip the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 32November 9, 2022 3:03 AM

Have libertarians ever won any race for anything anywhere? Same for the greens. All they do is play spoiler for this or that party.

by Anonymousreply 33November 9, 2022 3:04 AM

I see Beto lost, that's too bad. I'll never understand why so many people vote for the worst assholes. I'm just glad that Maggie Hassan won but am dismayed by how many voted for that fucking nut Bolduc.

by Anonymousreply 34November 9, 2022 3:04 AM

From 538 blog:

"Let’s check in on the Kentucky anti-abortion ballot measure. We have 64 percent of the expected vote reporting, and the abortion-rights side is still in the lead with 53 percent, while the anti-abortion rights side has 47 percent. The abortion-rights side of the amendment continues to run well ahead of the Democratic Senate candidate, signaling that some voters are crossing party lines to oppose this ballot measure, which would effectively end all legal opposition to abortion bans in Kentucky."

by Anonymousreply 35November 9, 2022 3:05 AM

So can someone please explain again what outstanding Georgia votes are coming from Dem areas? This doom and gloom may all be for naught.

by Anonymousreply 36November 9, 2022 3:05 AM

Stacey Abrams lost in Georgia. How depressing is this!

by Anonymousreply 38November 9, 2022 3:07 AM

[quote] 49.5. The idiot will flip the Senate.

The informed wisdom has been that whichever party won 2 of 3 out of GA, PA & NV would control the Senate. So a loss in Georgia, now or in a run-off, doesn't have to be dispositive.

by Anonymousreply 39November 9, 2022 3:07 AM

DNC chair Jamie Harrison was rarely out front. That organization sorely needs productive, vigorous, and proficient leadership.

by Anonymousreply 40November 9, 2022 3:07 AM

I will not give Beto O'Rourke another nickel, ever.

by Anonymousreply 41November 9, 2022 3:08 AM

Biden impeachment proceedings commence on Jan 2, 2023.

by Anonymousreply 70November 9, 2022 3:13 AM

California and west coast polls are closing. There are some problems with dems keeping their us house seat in some polls, even in California.

Especially plausible Democratic pickups in the House.

by Anonymousreply 78November 9, 2022 3:16 AM

by Anonymousreply 81November 9, 2022 3:16 AM

by Anonymousreply 82November 9, 2022 3:16 AM

R65 Fetterman has a lot of dem votes still out. He's fine. Philly will save the day once again

by Anonymousreply 83November 9, 2022 3:16 AM

by Anonymousreply 84November 9, 2022 3:16 AM

NYT needle thinks 88% chance of Fetterman winning. 63% chance of Kelly winning and Hobbs is running close to him.

Nevada only starts releasing vote counts after the last voter has voted.

by Anonymousreply 85November 9, 2022 3:17 AM

Sean Patrick Maloney. DCCC chair to lose his seat in Congress. Good. He is a charlatan.

by Anonymousreply 86November 9, 2022 3:17 AM

[quote] I will not give Beto O'Rourke another nickel, ever.

by Anonymousreply 92November 9, 2022 3:18 AM

Interesting that many polls underestimated republicans in 2020; now it looks like they underestimated democrats. Many of these races democrats are winning they weren't supposed to win, or, win as easily. Case in point; NY, where Hochul is breezing to an easy win, but the some of the polls actually had Zeldin ahead.

At this point the Senate is still a toss-up and we won't know the final result until Georgia (which could easily end in a run-off) and Nevada, are in.... Cortez Masto was trailing by a point or two in the polls, but again, if tonight proves anything at all, it's that pollsters really don't know how to poll voters.

by Anonymousreply 93November 9, 2022 3:18 AM

Arizona blowout! Kunty Kari won't be able to be our "worst frickin' nightmare!" What a cunt, if I ever see her -- I'll let her know how I feel :)

by Anonymousreply 99November 9, 2022 3:20 AM

NC Senate unchanged, goes to the Rethug.

by Anonymousreply 100November 9, 2022 3:20 AM

Pollsters readjust their methodology after every election. Just because Republicans had an undercount in 2020 didn't mean they would in 2022. Seems like pollsters may have over adjusted.

by Anonymousreply 101November 9, 2022 3:20 AM

R70 What? That's not Rep control...

A district in Kansas redrawn to be more favorable to Republicans was still won by its Democratic incumbent, Sharice Davids.

What about Mark whatshisname in AZ? The insurrectionist asshole. Is he winning?

Hell no, R97. She's a bitch like Trump

by Anonymousreply 104November 9, 2022 3:20 AM

The high quality non-partisan polls were good. Split Ticket made an aggregator of just those polls and that average looks very good.

It's the partisan polling that sucked.

by Anonymousreply 105November 9, 2022 3:20 AM

The delusion of Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 106November 9, 2022 3:21 AM

Georgia going to a run-off and Warnock might actually do better without Stacy around

by Anonymousreply 107November 9, 2022 3:21 AM

Democrats have a chance to keep the House. Holy FUCK!

All the headwinds against them, in a midterm year, the party out of power is having one of the worst performances in 100 years. ‘24 is going to be an actual Blue tsunami.

by Anonymousreply 108November 9, 2022 3:21 AM

Given how Fetterman is performing relative to to Biden right now he is on track to win by 4-4.5 points.

R104 AZ looks pretty good for dems in general

by Anonymousreply 110November 9, 2022 3:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 117November 9, 2022 3:23 AM

It's very close between Walker and Warnock as well as Fetterman and Oz. Those two races should be no brainers but it's the voters who have no brains.

by Anonymousreply 125November 9, 2022 3:25 AM

I'm pretty sure the VT governor is a lot like Larry Hogan in MD, that's why it was OK he was a Republican. He's not a MAGAt.

by Anonymousreply 322November 9, 2022 4:06 AM

That awkward moment when the Moderates realize all they got by voting for Republicans will be a Hunter Biden conviction....Inflation will still be here this time next year and so will uncontrollable crime in big cities--Republicans don't fix anything unless it involves giving rich people freebies.

Nevada results for Senate are starting to trickle in, but so far only from the sparsely-populated rural counties, which are deep red. So the numbers currently skew towards Laxalt. Clark County (Las Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno) are the only 2 big counties in terms of large population. Those are the counties that will determine the outcome. So wait until Washoe and Clark have both reported in.

Things are indeed looking better than expected for Democrats, but the bottom line is still power -who will control the House and Senate? If the Repugs take either they have promised to wreak havoc. We're facing shutdowns of congressional oversight and multiple impeachment proceedings -not to mention a likely government shutdown.

It's grim, folks. It could have been much worse, but it's still grim.

"Does this fairly good Democrat result mean America might secretly like the reasonably stable, genial elderly gentleman in the White House after all?"

I think it's the flip side of the dynamic when Trump was "unexpectedly" elected president. The media didn't pick up on the underlying dynamics in the electorate and a segment of Trump voters weren't vocal about supporting him.

I'd imagine there has to be a not insignificant number of voters in this election who voted for Dems when they maybe previously voted for Republicans, or they simply didn't vote. Because, while it never seems like it based on what we see everyday in the news and social media, there really are some normally conservative/Republican voters who absolutely have limits to the insanity and bullshit they'll accept.

Plus, I'd think on the issue of abortion alone there had to be a not insignificant number of people swinging towards Dems even if saying so in their families and communities would be unpopular. Plus, the issue energized the Dem electorate and maybe got more people who would always vote Dem to not consider staying at home.

by Anonymousreply 495November 9, 2022 4:58 AM

I legit just got teary-eyed. Thank goodness Fetterman won.

[quote]It's grim, folks. It could have been much worse, but it's still grim.

Hold your horses, Eeyore. We don’t yet know who will take the House and Senate. Even if Dems lose them both, we’re doing way better than virtually anyone predicted. Even if we lose the House, both CNN and MSNBC have said the narrow margin of a potential Republican majority will make it virtually impossible for them to get anything done.

"Fetterman is the type that can turn fence sitters. We need more of the type of optics he delivers to win in Ohio, Wisconsin, etc."

It's true. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. Most people, of course, are not basing voting decisions on a serious deep dive into policy. It's a candidates position on a few key issues, likeability, relatability, and other "optics."

Doesn’t this effectively end Trump’s plan to steal the electoral college in 2024? Stick a fork in him because he is dead.

by Anonymousreply 533November 9, 2022 5:12 AM

As of right now, including Clark County (Las Vegas), the most populous county, the vote for Nevada U.S. Senate is

Cortez-Masto (D) 54.29%

Laxalt (R) 42.95%

There is still the 2nd most populous county, Washoe (Reno area) yet to report, but that is generally Democratic. At this point it looks like a clear win for Cortez-Masto.

by Anonymousreply 534November 9, 2022 5:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 543November 9, 2022 5:14 AM

Congrats R508! Thank you for your contribution to saving Democracy in Flyoverland.

Fetterman’s win is especially poignant after his debate where Oz surgically slaughter the fellow who continues to heal from his stroke. Fetterman gained my loyalty after fronting up for that event and doing his very best. The outcome tonight is sweet..,.sweet justice for him.

I, too, will withdraw my remarks on Arizona tonight if it comes through for us. It seems Ohio has now stepped up to become the new FL or TX. Hard to believe, but always found the state a bit of a problem even before the Trump Era.

What’s up with Wisconsin?

My friends in PA were worried about their dumber brethren in Pennsyltucky, but they all said the same thing: they found Fetterman brave to go out there and do that debate, and that bravery was what they were preaching to their friends and neighbors. It might have been the difference.

by Anonymousreply 557November 9, 2022 5:18 AM

Clear win for Cortez Masto? No, because in-person election day vote it yet to come and that's GOP-heavy. The NYT needle is projecting just a tiny 0.7% win for her. It's going to be close.
