Genuinely feel for all the kids in this cast. Glad Alice and Patrick stepped up to say something about kit but they needed to have come out way earlier in all their defense - kit re queerbaiting, Joe re cyber bullying, bash re conflation with his character, etc.

I really don’t see season 4 happening. Joe, Bash, and Kit especially seem to be incredibly done with the fanbase understandably. I can genuinely see Joe not wanting to do another large project as a result and kit and bash wanting to be done ASAP. Obviously Nick and Charlie are both essential for S3 but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Ben wrap up in S2 as the hate and constant shit is too much to bear.

I've always said they won't want to be in their mid 20's doing a children's show even if the fandom completely behaved themselves, but now I think they might want to move on. They've gotten about all they can from HS at this point. I can't see a S4 really happening anyway. Though money changes minds.

Though I think Bash will want to be in S3.

There’s about a 90% chance that Netflix nailed Joe and Kit down with a multi-season contract from the beginning, so they might not have much of a choice.

R22 yeah he and Joe are both very young to have the amount of scrutiny on them. All of them are but aside from Cormac who is obviously in a minor role they are the youngest; were still in school and dealing with the press and attention whilst still studying; and as the leads obviously get the most scrutiny and attention. I can’t imagine how it feels for either. Really feel bad for both and everyone else in the cast who feels like they’re under a microscope for everything they say and do.

I think the main thing that the cast (at least Joe and Kit) need to do is leave all social media (apart from their private stuff). It’s the only way to keep their mental health intact and to avoid most of the intense scrutiny - none of the trolls or obsessed fans are gonna have the guts to say all that crap to their face if they meet them in the street.

They completely change their tune when they seem them in person. Almost sure some of the people who met Bash in the last few months once removed him as their pfp and said they wanted to hold him accountable for the JD thing.

This is by no means to downplay how Kit feels, to be clear. I genuinely understand why kit is so upset and am really sad for him. He seems to be feeling a lot of pain and hurt and i do think there’s a chance the hate and comments get to him more (at least outwardly) than Joe or even bash. Im also glad he’s receiving love and support because he certainly deserves it.

But what’s upsetting about this is the support they get from the rest of the cast and crew (primarily the adults) shouldn’t be tailored to their inidivual resilience and strength or how quietly they handle things, it should be tailored to the situation. So Patrick and Alice and kizzy - totally agree with stepping up for kit. But Joe has gotten absolutely shit kicked for months over his looks, his demeanor, liking the wrong comments etc. Him not being as publicly upset as Kit doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve support. In some ways I think they had the highest obligation to bash. Because the bullying kit and Joe got is awful but not directly a result of Alice and Patrick and Euros. Bash’s was.

He has gotten absolutely shat on for months on end for playing a character Alice wrote, with a complexity / “empathy” / bigger arc Alice Patrick and euros chose. I think if you’re going to have a literal teenager play a sexual assaulter you owe him a lot of support on the back end and a shit ton of advocacy surrounding the role. And tbh I’m disgusted that because Joe and bash have one another they don’t seem to feel the need to support them as much. That tiktok from Friday is super telling - of everyone goofing off on set and Joe looking really serious and upset as he texted and stared at his phone alone.

Clearly Bash was really hurt and upset and felt attacked; Joe originally liked a tweet calling people bullies. Then Joe got accused of condoning sexual assault and was told he didn’t deserve to play his character, was disgusting, and that Charlie would hate him and should be recast. Their quietness about the hate and the fact that they lean on one another does not undermine their very real need for support from the adults in their lives and on the shoot to support them. I’m glad kit is getting the support he needs after what seems like a really stressful and hurtful experience. But I hope the adults involved in HS Learn from this to step up and step in earlier for all the teens and young adults on this shoot subjected to this shit.

R27 An important thing to note is that we have no clue what support Joe and Bash are getting behind the scenes - probably lots. And while I do wish that Alice and others had shown public support in some way, Joe didn’t actually tweet anything so there wasn’t anything to reply to - and also it would have drawn more attention to it. Whereas Kit’s tweet was meant for everyone to see.

R27 Good point actually. Alice should have said something about Ben long ago and never has. They hung Bash out to dry and he's had to deal with the fallout of Ben's expanded role in the story by constantly harping on how much he hates the character so people won't hate him. When he actually says his true nuanced thoughts about the role, he gets hate. Not that it helped, since people still say shit like calling him Joe's abuser.

And it's pretty glaring they didn't bother to say shit about anything going on yesterday, well, frankly this crap has been going on forever. There were whole manifesto tweet threads about how unnecessary Ben is to S2 and for some weird reason Bash was getting the blame for playing a character Alice wrote. They use Alice's old thoughts of Ben never being redeem against Bash as well. And Joe, it goes without saying Alice should have said something about people saying he wasn't fit to play Charlie anymore.

R28 to be clear that’s why I meant they should have stepped in earlier. I agree that kits was meant to get attention (not in a bad way - clearly he wanted his anger to be public and I get it). But it shouldn’t get to that point when there are adults involved with Netflix resources behind them who can carve away a lot of these issues. This is a really weird comment for a couple of reasons. First, that he's one of the cast member that comes off the most intelligently in interviews. Second, yeah, he wasn't renting out a skywriter plane to announce his bisexuality, but that didn't mean he needed to act "straight" or censor himself. And I'm glad he didn't.

R33 Hard to have serious media report on the Joe and Bash thing since it was fucking stupid. It was a mistranslation which he clarified and then Joe... liked a tweet and blocked a person. Try to write an article about that. Though it also helped that Joe didn't say anything. I think had he tweeted his feelings about the situation and then deleted it would have been a bit of a story, though obviously not as big as Kit being forced to come out

So the Joe and Bash saga might get a line in the papers after all just as a ‘fans on a rampage against the cast’ side note to the Kit story

R42 I think the more likely way the bash and Joe stuff gets added is if Netflix takes this seriously / the cast is up for it and they get them to do a piece on the actors struggling with online harassment. I’m guessing it would likely just be Joe and Kit doing it but I’m sure Joe would bring up not only the looks based bullying he’s received but also the conflation of bash with his character etc. who knows if that interview will happen (wouldn’t be surprised if kit snd Joe didn’t want to) but it would be a good read and very deserved

Bash is signed up for a conversation happening in a few months. It’s far enough out, he could easily cancel. In the past I’ve gotten the impression Bash enjoys interacting with fans more than most of the other cast members do. But his views may have changed this week.

I don't think Bash would let trolls cause him to throw away opportunities.

The only one confirmed is Bradley. There are 3 others who have had contracts sent out and one is another new cast member. They said the other day nothing will be confirmed until HS finishes filming.

R47 I think it depends; obviously if Ben had a good arc written in for s3 and he has nothing else lined up, then that would likely outweigh. But If it’s a minor shallow role in a few episodes I can see him passing just to avoid the endless hate. obviously I don’t know him so good on him if he’s stronger than I would be and could push through but it must be exhausting

This could spark a larger debate about online harassment. One thing the mainstream LGBTQ community holds sacred is letting people come out on their own terms. The fact that Kit is so young and felt forced to come out, the larger LGBTQ organizations might rally around Kit and push for Netflix to do/say something.

I don't think people take online harassment seriously at all, even though it clearly exists. At the very least, this might spotlight and bring attention to the fact that online harassment is real and can lead to real consequences (i.e., forcing a young actor to out himself before he was ready, etc.).

Lol maybe I need to examine my own parasocial relationships because I struggled to sleep last night worrying about the cast’s mental health. Not sure if that makes me weird or just a normal person who cares.

I think it all seems more real because none of them were celebrities just earlier this year - we’ve seen them as normal people without millions of followers, acting like typical teenagers in vlogs when they were mostly unknown actors, posting openly and comfortably on social media. With people who are already famous, it can be easy to separate yourself and these celebrities somehow don’t feel real, but we’ve seen the sudden dramatic transition for the cast (Joe and Kit especially) and it feels way more real. And way more painful to watch them going through this stuff.

I’m so fucking glad I’m not a teenager anymore. This drama is ridiculous. Fair play to Kit but no-one has to come out. Not sure what on earth made him feel he had too late on a random Monday night when attention was largely on Joe & Bash and the cross over fandom was excited for YR2. Very odd timing, makes me assume something else is behind it.

R87 the comments under his comment on Maia’s IG post were basically 4-5 trolls spam posting and accusing him of queer baiting. I don’t know obviously but I can guess that seeing bash and Joe harassed by the fanbase all weekend May have already had him a bit on edge so that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m glad he’s getting public support and support from the cast and creators. Hopefully when the fanbase end up being shitty and toxic to someone else Alice and Patrick keep this energy.

While the whole fanbase has come together to support Kit, they are also putting down Joe and Bash while doing so. Have seen several 'fans' saying that while Kit deserves their support, Joe and Bash don't cause they invalidated sa victims.

I feel really bad for kit; being accused of queer baiting and feeling pressured or forced to come out before he felt ready or when he didn’t want to us truly awful. The broad public support for him is really nice, as is the cast and “crew” / showrunners. Not to beat a dead horse or make unnecessary comparisons because this honestly extends beyond Joe and bash yo the whole cast, but hopefully Alice et al get a fucking wake up call for this. They have indirectly caused or enabled a lot of these issues - originally saying they cast exactly along the lines of sexuality and character, and then backtracking. Even then they could have stepped in earlier and said clearly “we are incredibly proud of our casting process and believe every cast member is perfect for their role and understands their character. No one is queer baiting or pretending anything and it’s shameful to say so”; then maybe he wouldn’t have felt the need to say this.

Re Bash and Joe, because while I’m sure the other cast members get shat on I don’t follow them closely, it’s actually disgraceful how much shit they’ve taken without Alice so much as tweeting a be kind. They have every reason to feel done with this fanbase and show; the fact that one or both aren’t seriously struggling with their mental health is frankly a miracle. I’m certainly glad they found one another while filming bc god knows they didn’t get a great support system from the adults on set.

R101 he seems to be a really sweet and sensitive kid so I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he apologized generally, because even though he in no way owes it to anyone or did anything wrong he’s been open about being really anxious and overthinking all social situations he’s in. Having thousands of tweets accuse you of condoning abuse could overwhelm and make even a more confident, older person want to clarify their stance and doubt themselves.

That said, I doubt the apology if he makes one comes today. I’m guessing this is purely meant to be support for kit. While I don’t think he needs to make one, IF he does then god knows the truly insane will say he’s making Kit’s coming out about himself doing it today while they’ll also be mad he dared to deactivate without an immediate mess culpa. I fully got why bash didn’t “defend him back” after the whole situation blew up because when it’s just the two of them handling the shitstorm solo, that makes the drama so much worse. If the whole cast and crew had rallied behind them it might’ve been different but I get why even though it’s unfair and hurtful to both they would prefer to be done with it and just stop hearing about how they’re awful people. I am not positive he’ll apologize but I can see in a few days something about not wanting to tweet in haste and detract from Kit’s experience by making it about himself, but wanting to clarify that he reacted out of frustration seeing the pain and from some people bullying that someone he cared about was out through due to a mistranslation. R215 MCU shows seem to vary a lot in how long they take to film. Joe's the lead male, but not the main character. I'm guessing it takes several months though. It'll be an adjustment for sure.

Bash can visit sometimes. Joe will have breaks too. Maybe Bash goes for some US auditions himself. But it's just part of the being actors. They've dealt with it somewhat recently, even if Bash could come home on the weekends sometimes. I think they'll be fine.

Both the new Joe thread about the marvel announcement and the new Kit thread about him coming out seem to be a lot of new people, who aren’t familiar with HS. It’s great that other people are joining the conversation. Big gay news is good for everyone.
