I checked this out when the series first premiered, but it didn't grab me and I bailed about episodes in. Someone in a House of the Dragon forum mentioned that were pleased to see Olivia Cooke in HOTD because they loved her in Bates Motel. I vaguely remembered her... she was the girl who used an oxygen tank.

Oh man, this show was a revelation. Some truly terrific acting. I already knew Vera Farmiga was a terrific actress based on her previous work (Running Scared, The Departed, Joshua and Orphan, just to name a few), but she was outstanding in this show.

And of course there was Freddie Highmore. I think it’s criminal that he didn’t get more critical recognition for the work he did as Norman, and then as Norman-as-Norma. Just incredible. There’s a scene with a psychiatrist where Norman becomes Norma, and Freddie’s acting as he switches is very subtle, yet you know he is no longer Norman.

And I know he played a psycho, but wow, the Freddie Highmore lust I didn’t know I had was fully awakened. Good lord, Freddie was so attractive.

And of course there was Max. It is kind of a shame that much of his plot lines ended up being rather inconsequential to the main story, but he had such a pretty face I didn’t want to FF his scenes. Yes he is incredibly hot and well-built, but I have to say that I prefer his twink look like he had in Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take (2010).

R36, same here. I thought My Soul to Take was a very confused movie that didn’t seem to know what story it wanted to tell, but man, Max Thieriot was unbelievably sexy, just like his TV brother Freddie.

I can definitely see why there would be fan fic between the two brothers since Max and Freddie are very sexy in totally different ways.

Tried to get into the show when it aired. I liked it, but it was a little relentlessly dark and I quit after the second season. Freddie Highmore is so cute. Vera is one of the best actresses we have today, and a revelation in the role as an above poster said. She needs more big roles before she ages out of leading lady territory altogether.

If you read Max's Wiki page at R25, you'll see he was born in Los Altos, CA and raised in Sonoma County. He also co-owns a winery in California Wine Country.

He's a Bay Area highbrow, through and through. And usually, they're CA Liberals like Gavin Newsom. Usually.

Forgive me. I'm going to talk about the show and an actor instead of the actors' naked torsos.

I liked the show a lot primarily for its acting. Farmiga blew my freaking mind so often in that character.

Freddie Highmore was really excellent and I was shocked when I learned he's British. I never would have guessed.

Likewise, I never had any idea until the show was over that Olivia Cooke, who played Norman's love interest with cystic fibrosis, is British.

It took me a minute to realize she's Queen Alicent on House of the Dragon.

I lost interest in the show and didn't watch the last season. It did drag on for too long and lost its momentum. I liked the relationships but I really did not get into the illegal pot business B storyline and it became the A storyline and I thought the show lost its way. But it was an incredible acting showcase.

OK, back to Thieriot's boobs.

Season 4 aired on SyFy earlier today, and I was absolutely blown away by Freddie Highmore's acting.

Vera Farmiga became a bit campier as the seasons went on, but Freddie just got better and better.

His portrayal of Norman's descent into madness, culiminating in the death of his mother, was just fantastic.

I agree with someone above who posted that Freddie deserved multiple Emmy's for his acting.

Freddie really should venture into feature films. He would be great on the big screen. I just can't think of a movie that would be good for him, though.

Vera Farmiga got an Emmy nomination for the first season. But, was never nominated again.

Bates Motel filmed in Canada. Most of the Canadian actors who played some of the supporting characters were decent actors for the most part. Some shows and TV movies that film in Canada are sometimes dragged down by amateurish Canadian actors.
