Has the Queen been embalmed already?

I'm genuinely curious about this.

Her body will lie in state for at least 10 days, so I'm assuming that the caretakers have "taken care" of her.

Does anyone know the details?

It's a bit morbid, but... hey. That's life.

by Anonymousreply 50September 13, 2022 12:22 PM

Embalming is ghoulish and gross. I really don't get it, except when you have to put people on show.

by Anonymousreply 1September 8, 2022 10:13 PM

Oh honey, R1.

This is the biggest "show" of the year.

She has to be embalmed.

Her fluids have been drained, and she's stiff as a board.

Which works out quite well, since her body will be traveling all around the UK for the next week and a half.

by Anonymousreply 2September 8, 2022 10:16 PM

It's hard to believe that she's gone.

I'm seeing photos of her all over the internet, and she still seems... alive.

by Anonymousreply 3September 8, 2022 10:17 PM

These are the people who would know. Levertons are the current funeral directors to the Royal Family. They have handled all the major Royal funerals since Diana.

Isn't Lenin preserved for eternity in glass coffin in Moscow?

Just gross.

by Anonymousreply 5September 8, 2022 10:18 PM

Yes, R5.

R5 I heard that after a few years his embalmed corpse turned green and they had to replace it with a wax one.

by Anonymousreply 7September 8, 2022 10:22 PM

I believe it, R7.

by Anonymousreply 8September 8, 2022 10:23 PM

The interesting one is reading about the the Anti-Rainbow Tour Evita's corpse ended up undertaking after her death.

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2022 10:25 PM

The Queen lying in state won’t be open coffin, the royals are never on display that way, so there’s not much reason to embalm. She’s going to be sealed in a lead-lined coffin pretty quickly.

by Anonymousreply 10September 8, 2022 10:30 PM

It's 10 days, motherfuckers!

She'll be fine.

Read the "Operation London Bridge" thread.

It's all planned out.

[quote] since her body will be traveling all around the UK

No, it will lie 'in state' in a closed coffin.

by Anonymousreply 12September 8, 2022 10:40 PM

Why lead-lined, R10? To survive a nuclear attack? She's already dead.

Seriously, why lead-lined?

by Anonymousreply 13September 8, 2022 10:40 PM

[quote] No, it will lie 'in state' in a closed coffin.

Still, her corpse will be transported around the UK to lie in state in various venues.

by Anonymousreply 14September 8, 2022 10:42 PM

No, R14, she died in Balmoral. The hearse will take the coffin from Balmoral to the Edinburgh station where it will travel by train to the national capital where it will lie in state for a designated time until burial.

by Anonymousreply 15September 8, 2022 10:54 PM

R13 for some reason royals have been buried in lead-lined coffins for hundreds of years. I think since the Middle Ages, probably a status thing, and to protect the corpse.

by Anonymousreply 16September 8, 2022 11:01 PM

I suspect she is lying in state for the family and Balmoral staff. Will her body move to London tomorrow escorted by Charles?

by Anonymousreply 17September 8, 2022 11:09 PM

If you are interested in the lead lined coffins, check out the PBS show about iron coffins

Her body will be moved to London by royal train then taken to Buckingham Palace.

by Anonymousreply 19September 8, 2022 11:25 PM

The Royal Train.

Actually, no. Rigor mortis is temporary Embalming doesn't cause the body to go rigid.

by Anonymousreply 21September 9, 2022 12:00 AM

Probably refrigerated overnight, then embalmed tomorrow. Otherwise she’ll start to stink.

by Anonymousreply 22September 9, 2022 12:15 AM

She's hanging over my fireplace.

by Anonymousreply 23September 9, 2022 12:16 AM

She'll be moved to Edinburgh first to lie in state and then onto London. Her dead body is going on a bigger tour than Rocio Durcal's last tour of Mexico.

If it’s closed casket, they probably ship around a dummy coffin full of phonebooks.

by Anonymousreply 25September 9, 2022 12:25 AM

Maybe her body will be like Evita’s, perfectly preserved, shuttled around the world and lost for decades.

by Anonymousreply 26September 9, 2022 12:41 AM

Will she be buried on a tiny island in the middle of a stinking swamp, like Diana was?

by Anonymousreply 27September 9, 2022 12:46 AM

I didn't realize Henry VIII is also buried at Windsor. Will it be possible to visit the Queen's grave? Any excuse to wear my kilt.

by Anonymousreply 28September 9, 2022 12:50 AM

R27 Well that’s still better than being buried beneath a car park.

by Anonymousreply 29September 9, 2022 2:09 AM

Has she been drained yet?

by Anonymousreply 30September 9, 2022 2:13 AM

Or on a back nine, R29.

by Anonymousreply 31September 9, 2022 2:18 AM

Yes, smoking is now severely restricted around her.

by Anonymousreply 32September 9, 2022 2:31 AM

Will a WAKE or a WOKE be held for her tonight?

by Anonymousreply 33September 9, 2022 3:57 AM

It's being held inside your asshole.

by Anonymousreply 34September 9, 2022 4:24 AM

Was she an organ donor?

by Anonymousreply 35September 9, 2022 4:34 AM

William the Conqueror was initially allowed to rot when he died in France, and was only embalmed improperly a few days later. When he was brought back to Caen, the body burst open when they tried to bury it in the Abbaye-aux-Hommes, releasing a foul odor that filled the abbey..

by Anonymousreply 36September 9, 2022 5:04 AM

OMG R36... is there a link to that story???

I want to read more about it.

Gross!

by Anonymousreply 37September 9, 2022 6:00 AM

This thought crossed my mind last night too… where and when will they do it? It must be done at Balmoral surely before she is moved to Edinburgh.

by Anonymousreply 38September 9, 2022 6:25 AM

She looked so cute, smiling at Liz Truss just a couple days ago.

Oh well. Lady C said she had bone cancer.

by Anonymousreply 39September 9, 2022 6:29 AM

For R37

I'm telling you. Vicodin and a morphine drip 3 times a day bring out the best in all of us.

by Anonymousreply 41September 9, 2022 7:59 AM

They should seal her up in a giant Advil pain relief capsule like the one in which Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will be put to rest:

by Anonymousreply 42September 9, 2022 8:18 AM

Have they secreted the Queens body away somewhere for the embalming procedure? Seriously, they can't do it on the sofa at Balmoral.

by Anonymousreply 43September 9, 2022 8:22 AM

She’s secreting as we speak, R43.

by Anonymousreply 44September 9, 2022 8:24 AM

I’m just glad the last picture of her showed that she had returned to the wash & set hairstyle she’d been wearing all these years and not the “new” hairstyle they unveiled after the Platinum Jubilee. That one did her no favors.

by Anonymousreply 45September 9, 2022 8:35 AM

She looked so cute in those last pictures.. :-(

by Anonymousreply 46September 9, 2022 8:41 AM

It's summer, and they're running out of ice.

by Anonymousreply 47September 9, 2022 8:42 AM

By now she is.

I’ve heard some of the best embalming in the UK happens in Edinburgh.

by Anonymousreply 49September 12, 2022 3:21 PM

Will the funeral be open casket?
