Are you serious? Jimmy Page is severely balding. He had amazing hair and for many years, not anymore.
The only member of Zep who still has good hair is John Paul Jones.
Below, Page with The Yardbirds, he had so much hair, it looked like a wig. He had better hair than a woman. Same for Robert Plant. They both had naturally thick curly hair. I think lots of people had better hair years ago, there weren't so many chemicals added to our foods.

He looks freakishly tall (as always).
It's always fascinating to see how production people and costume designers on television variety shows in the late Sixties imagined hippies (in this case, somehow dancing to songs from "Mame"). I always think of people in Peoria watching this thinking, "I guess this is what young people in San Francisco are like now."

[quote]Ronnie Wood. Rolling Stones alcoholic yet he's 75. Sometimes genes make you immune...
Years ago, I saw Ron Wood in a downtown NYC indie record shop. He looked even worse in person, his face is sunken in and he's very thin. His skin looked grey! I was standing next to him while waiting to pay for my records. He was talking to the store's owner who was at the cash register. Until Ron turned around and smiled at the female friend I was with, I didn't realize it was him. I just thought it was some customer trying to look like a rockstar. He had on velvet pants and a leather jacket.
Around the same time I saw Ron, Keith Richards lived right around the corner from the Tower Records which was on W. 4th Street. I always see a ton of celebs downtown.
btw, it's true, we do photograph heavier, you can imagine how thin Ron was in person.

Heart problems plagued Mirielle for years, she went for further heart surgery in 2016, then suffered several hemorrhages. In the Summer of 2017, she went into a coma, then died.

Nancy Olson also got wrong the fact that cast for the first preview performance had been dismissed at one point and had to be rounded up around New Haven (most were at the cinema) when Harrison was persuaded to go on. I'm surprised they didn't have a sitzprobe (rehearsal with orchestra) before the first public performance, since apparently it was singing for the first time with orchestra is what spooked Harrison then. Also not mention: Harrison being a real jerk, especially to Julie Andrews early on, and the whole saga of Andrews' acting being not good before Moss Hart dismissed the company for a weekend to spend a very long weekend drilling the role into her upstairs in the theater above the New Amsterdam Theater in NY. I did like you in "Sunset Blvd" and some Disney movies though, Nancy.

Interesting, R366! It reminds me of Clarissa Eden, Countess of Avon (née Churchill - niece of Winston), who died last year aged 101. She was married to Anthony Eden, British Prime Minister from 1955 to 1957. She outlived the spouses of five PMs who came after her husband (Macmillan, Douglas-Home, Wilson, Callaghan and Thatcher), representing all prime ministerial spouses from 1957 to 1990.

Clifton Webb sometimes did very well playing a dad (as in Titanic, and Cheaper By The Dozen). I was less convinced in Holiday For Lovers, and two others: Dreamboat, and Elopement, in both of which Anne Francis played his daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 466 | October 15, 2022 6:48 PM |
I love the Clifton Webb-Barbara Stanwyck "Titanic." It's not very accurate, and the sinking takes a back seat to the soap opera plot, but somehow the ending is still very moving. I also like "A Night to Remember," made in England five years later, but it was based on Walter Lord's then-recent book. It's documentary-like, much more accurate and isn't a soap opera. Cameron's movie tried to have it both ways.
by Anonymous | reply 467 | October 15, 2022 6:57 PM |
One of the reasons the 1953 Titanic wasn't as accurate was because A Night To Remember had not been published yet (big best seller, btw). The writers of the earlier film went on what they had, they might not have had access to everything Lord did, or (since they were just making a studio movie) had a lot of time to do the in-depth research.

R502 I used to like the shows at the North Shore, as a kid/teen. I liked Ogunquit more, but you could see some big stars in summer stock in those days and the shows were really fun, even on the smallish theater-in-the-round stage of North Shore. Never saw a bad show there.

In the early '70s, I saw a production of 'Company" there starring George Maharis as Bobby. He wasn't terrible. Vivian Blaine played Joanne, She had done the role on Broadway toward the end of its original run.

“On August 3, 2015, Carter underwent an elective surgery to remove a small mass on his liver, and his prognosis for a full recovery was initially said to be excellent. On August 12, however, he announced he had been diagnosed with cancer that had metastasized, without specifying where the cancer had originated.[430] On August 20, Carter disclosed that melanoma had been found in his brain and liver, and that he had begun treatment with the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab and was about to start radiation therapy. His healthcare was managed by Emory Healthcare of Atlanta. He has an extensive family history of cancer, including both of his parents and all three of his siblings.[431] On December 6, 2015, he issued a statement, announcing that his medical scans no longer showed any cancer.[432]“
He’s not exactly a celebrity but Jimmy Carter is still alive at 98, having survived metastatic cancer.
