The Lake on Video Prime has a gay storyline. I just finished the show and it's actually really funny. It consists of 8 episodes. The first half of the season was the strongest imo, definitely funnier than thr second half, but the whole show is good. Well worth the watch.

The new upcoming season of Chucky is going to have a lot of gay content based on what I've seen from the trailer for it so far

Just finished Heartbreak High on Netflix. It was horrible, god awful. AVOID at all costs.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR HEARTBREAK HIGH:

The gay guy (Darren) is not gay, he's "nonbinary" and goes by "they". So it's not actually a gay storyline. Also, the guy he falls in love with is asexual, so NO sex goes on between them. Darren tries to have sex with him, but Cash doesn't want to. That's pretty much the gist of the pathetic "gay storyline". Once again they make up excuses for the gays not to have sex, this time it's that one of them is "asexual" (LOL!) Oh yeah, and then they queerbait by teasing that Amerie's boyfriend Malakai is bi or gay, yet it all fizzles out into nothing. I have no idea what the fuck that whole storyline even was. He has a threesome with another guy and a girl, he then dreams about guys naked, he says he doesn't know who he is, he meets a guy at a party who he has chemistry with, who he compliments and they even go hiking together. Yet NOTHING! Absolutely fucking NOTHING! comes out of it. What the fuck was the whole point of it then? As I said: clearly queerbaiting.

Not worth mentioning yet (maybe they reveal more in season two?), but Disney's Terri Incognita hints at the lead's sidekick being gay and having a crush on a guy who has a crush on the lead's antagonist, a bully who also happens to be the son of the chief of police. The show has the twinkiest lead since Teen Wolf and Alex Ryder.

The new Vampire Academy show has changed two characters from brothers to lovers. I'm assuming this is J August Richard's first gay role since he came out.

J Agust played a gay dad on HBO Max's GENERATION. His husband was played by John Ross Bowie of THE BIG BANG THEORY and SPEECHLESS.

Why couldn't it have been a straight asexual guy, or one of the dykes? Oh no, it had to be one of the gays! Of course. As I said, the show had a ton of queerbaiting stuff. The most insulting thing was teasing that Malakai was gay or bi. The "gay storyline" if you can even call it that, was pathetic. It was actually offensive. That's how bad it was.

Just binge-watched The English show Wrecked, and it's a pretty nice, gay themed slasher horror series. The final two episodes are quite scary when the viewer finds out what is going on. The gay (and lesbian) content is rather chaste (kissing and making out) not much nudity (a few ass shots), the gay guy is the lead and his story takes up most of the time of the series.

Season 2 of One of us is lying on Netflix was released today. I'm watching the first episode now.

One Of Us Is Lying is pretty great. It's like Pretty Little Liars, but with one of the main cast being gay. Kris, the boyfriend, being the sassy voice of reason in a later episode of season two is pretty funny.

Spoiler for season two: That must be one hardcore reason why Jake was in rehab. Simon and Fiona got murdered to keep it a secret.

Season 2 of One of us is lying sucked ass. Cooper had very little screen time and Kris had even less, he was basically MIA until the last 3 episodes or so. The dykes got plenty of screen time though, of course. They got to kiss plenty, unlike the gays who got like two pecks. Last season was much better.

Trust me when I say season 2 of the show is NOT worth it. The gay storyline barely got any screen time (as in the gay MALE storyline, the dykes got plenty, of course). The general story was also much weaker and more boring than the first season.

Ensemble horror mystery show 1899 features gay characters. Miguel Bernardeau (Guzman from Elite) is in the show.

Obviously, the show is not for those who demand gay and nothing but gay from their entertainment.

Season 6 of Elite sucked. It was really bad. The gays got very little screen time.

There is a Belgian detective show on Netflix called Unité 42. One of the characters in it is gay or at least same sex attracted. There isn’t much going on in terms of hook ups or relationships but that is pretty much the same for all the characters. He does at least get asked out. One of the others is a widow who imagines his dead wife, the girl has memories of her dead boyfriend and the final of the four is married with kids. It is a bit gruesome in places but fairly easy viewing if you enjoy that type of show.

I’m still watching 1899, but there are 3 gay characters so far, 2 of whom are pretty damn sexy. Nothing very long or explicit though. Netflix seems to shy away from that.

This is the same thing that tripped up some viewers of THE BASTARD SON...Gabriel is 19 but people assumed he was 29/30 because the character's ex was 29 and the actor playing Gabriel is 30.

Half-Bad /The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself had little social media engagement and bad reviews but I am disappointed Netflix killed it.

So Reginald The Vampire ended the season with a gay kiss between two unexpected people... the super hot (dorky hot) slushy guy (who stripped off his shirt to show off his awesome bod) that Reginald spent half the season feeding off of, and the stoic vampire assistant that we all thought was in a relationship with the guy who sired Reginald.

And while on the one hand it did seem to come out of nowhere, on the other hand it actually felt right and earned "in the moment".

I have no idea if this show will get a season 2 or not. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I've heard exactly zero buzz about it. I think episode 8 was epically good, and showed just how much potential the show has. And it ended on a cliffhanger of sorts even though it completely wrapped all the main plot points of the first season.

R136 Elite is trash. It went from my favourite Netflix tv series with gay characters to my most hated in season six.

They completely obliterated the gay male couple and the gay dad this season. They went all-in on the disgusting old kill-the-gays trope. It was a complete betrayal of their gay viewers and as someone who survived being stabbed and beaten in a gay bashing it was a bit traumatic for me to watch. I won’t be tuning in again.

Plus all the new characters are deadly dull as well. Such a disappointment.

So if I ever bother to watch "Elite", I'll know to stop after season 5. Good to know.

R177 Yes, I do recommend Elite, season 5 was wonderful, and most of the series up to this had been very gay-positive. It was very frank in it's depictions of joyful gay male sexuality, something I'd never seen in a tv show before, and Manu Rios is just so beautiful, and a talented actor as well. I'm definitely going to follow his future projects.

Elite isn't a feel-good show. Pretty much all characters get screwed over and don't get their happy endings. Expecting that the gay characters are being treated differently is, like, WTF?

Frank in gay depictions? Not certain what you mean by “frank, “ but I don't know any gay people who live like the depiction on Elite. One thing I do like about the show is the inclusion of male bisexuality, fluidity, and mostly straight behavior.

I’m still on S3 of Elite. The bi stuff was way hotter with Carla and Christian in S1. But Valerio is pretty sexy and Polo has always been the most beautiful guy on here to me. Not to mention that incredible scene with Ander in S2. Lordt.

I guess the next class is where we finally get the legendary Manu Rios. I’m so excited haha.

Finally watched Wreck. It was ok. I'll give it 4/10. The gay guy wasn't allowed to have sex, yet the lesbian was. That's a double standard and I'm sick of it. I would have given the show a 6/10 if they had treated the gay and lesbian characters equally.

After the threesome he sorta had a gay awakening. I think he's bi or gay and I hope they explore more of that next season. They dropped a couple of hints about his sexuality last season but it never went any further. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did. It was such a letdown. I really hope they do more with him and his sexuality next season.

Don’t know if anyone’s still watching Hollyoaks or is a longtime viewer, but recently I’ve been revisiting very old episodes that I saw as a preteen (early-mid 2000s), and I’ve noticed a massive retcon—that Ste Hay is actually a bisexual, pretty even Kinsey 3, though nowadays he’s played like a Kinsey 6 gay man in line with his actor (Kieron Richardson).

Ste’s 2006-9 inaugural storyline with love interest/babymama Amy Barnes shows him as being consistently and strongly in love and lust with her (albeit in an unhealthy way). His closet key, the much older and more villainous bisexual man Brendan, is upheld by many fans as Ste’s greatest love of all, but honestly seeing and remembering how abusive that relationship was—moreso than Ste & Amy’s—it’s hard to accept and stomach that. And even after Ste tried to move on from Brendan and from Amy (and I’m not sure he ever fully did move on from Amy), he went on to date a girl named Rae that he seemed genuinely crazy about and was happily prepared to have a baby with her, too. They were even shown in the aftermath of mutually pleasurable and consensual sex in a few episodes, as were Ste & Amy. Fast forward several years (through a few serial shortlived m/m relationships, and plenty of episodes of promiscuity), and once again he willingly gets into the same situation with yet another woman named Sierra. No other character expect him to pursue women or ‘act straight’ at this point in the timeline, but he’s still clearly interested in females sometimes too. How could Ste be a fully gay man, then?

It’s strange that he desired and pursued women as much as men until he turned about 28-30 years old, yet identified and called himself gay for most of that time, and then according to the show suddenly and quietly decided he was exclusively gay in behaviour as well as name after all. I really can’t get my head round it.

The only watertight explanation I can come up with is that actor Kieron lobbied for his bisexual character to only have romantic or love scenes with men after he came out, and due to Ste’s legacy and popularity they caves to that demand. There’s also probably an element that gay storylines have historically been big draws for the show, garnering wider and more loyal viewer demographics. Still, I think it’s a betrayal of the legit backstory of a beloved character people grew up with. I love Ste, whether he’s gay or bi or straight, but I’m a fan of the 2000s version as much as the current one, and the show is making it tricky to accept and enjoy both in their retconned canon.

Most of Ste’s storyline from 2007-2009 involved his efforts to be there for her and Amy, giving most of his time & money to support them (though admittedly he didn’t always make good choices on that road).

Plus, her real biological father easily and quite literally signed away any claim and access to her (thanks to dearly missed gay power couple James & Harry, no less), after just one half-hearted tokenistic attempt to reestablish contact when Leah was already a preteen.

“Uncoupled” wasn’t great but it was entertaining. Glad Showtime picked it up. It had been in the Netflix Top 10 Shows in the U.S. for over a week (unusual for a gay-themed series) so I was surprised when it was canceled.

Not sure what the politics are over there now, they’ve let Scott Frank and Mike Flanagan get away from them and between them those guys wrote, directed, produced five of Netflix’s biggest, most popular limited series. I don’t get the Netflix strategy at all. And clearly client relations isn’t a strong suit.

R385 Nope. Teen Wolf treated its gays horribly too. Sure, they got to kiss, but they never got proper storylines. Also, they had like 3 different gays over the course of the show. One died, one just left abruptly etc. They weren't really integrated into the show at all. Gays on European shows are much more integrated and get more screen time (in general anyway, there's always the odd exception).

Teen Wolf did have a decent amount of gay/bi characters but the writing for them wasn't great. Danny should not have disappeared and they killed Brett off, Jackson being bi felt tacked on. Although i liked Mason and Corey.

Teen Wolf was teen schlock. Vapid and shallow, style over substance. The most character development the side characters were allowed to show was going from weak to strong or from bad to good. The LGBT representation was there, but it was more about giving the young LGBT demographic a reason to watch the show (apart from the male eye candy for the Gays).

It was entertaining (and I enjoyed it for what it was), but it wasn't exactly a masterpiece of high class entertainment. It had many, many, many flaws.

In other news, when are we going to see some decent representation when it comes to a good gay TV series that's not in Spanish? My Spanish is terrible, but good enough that I also know that the subtitles are going off script which is, erm, confusing! Dubbed into English does not help me out here, the voice acting is usually terrible and unnatural. I've tried the gay streamers, OUT TV, Dekko etc. and to be blunt, their stuff is amateurish and often 10 minutes long, with a 2 minute recap, into and outro, even the films they carry are dated at best, dated and a university film club output at best.

I'm so happy they finally made Buck gay (well, bi). It's been a long time coming, there have been hints for years. I'm not a Buddie stan though, as I never thought Eddie was anything more than straight. But Buck? Yeah, him being bi makes a lot of sense. This isn't out of the blue at all. His character has been on the journey for the past few seasons. It's only playing out now after 7 seasons because the show is now on gay friendly ABC instead of homophobic Fox. Lucas FINALLY came out on Hollyoaks. I got sick of this storyline a while ago as it was so drawn out and nothing happened, so I stopped watching. It's been a year ffs!

The actor playing Lucas may have started a year ago, but they obviously wanted to first get viewers accustomed to having a new, somewhat older actor playing Lucas. .. And while then 15-year-old Lucas beginning to question his sexuality was hinted at, they couldn't really go much further until after they'd brought in and established the lead character in the show's planned gay conversion story: that would be the "Carter Shepherd" character, and David Ames, who plays Carter, didn't enter the scene until mid-August.

Telling that issue-based story has been the show's main focus. Within that story, Lucas became the first and most prominent of the young, tormented victims, then Ro, and now Kitty. In press and interviews, it was even said that this would be "a long-running story."

In the scene leading up to Lucas telling his father, Ste that he's gay, Ste compares the manipulation and brainwashing of those practicing gay conversion to what happened to him when he was indoctrinated and radicalized by the far-right group. That story took a year to tell. Same with the football sex abuse/grooming storyline involving Buster. Ollie, and Brody. That's typical for most of the issue-based, socially-relevant stories they've presented on Hollyoaks.

Tengo que morir todas las noches is a new Mexican series that will be released on June 7th on Amazon Prime. I have no idea why it took more than a year to release it. I thought they had scrapped it all together. Glad that's not the case though.

Lost Boys and Fairies on BBC is really good. Just watched the first episode. Can recommend.

Lost Boys & Fairies was excellent. Not as cloying as I expected it to be I find Fra Fee so hot. Short, but hot.

I have watched the first few episodes of Tengo que morir todas las noches and it's very good. Can recommend. It has fairly explicit sex scenes. It's so refreshing to see a realistic portrayal of gay life too, including sex. I appreciate Heartstopper for what it is: a cute show that portrays gay love. However, we also need more realistic portrayals, including gay sex.

Just finished it. After watching Tengo que morir todas los noches I can say I highly recommend it. It was excellent. Very sad though. That first gay experience in the first episode was so realistic. Realizing you're into guys, then acting on it. It was very good.

You called it R536. I don't think I've ever been angrier than I was at the turn this show took. It was completely unnecessary and really cheapened the whole thing.

R537 Yup. I had to stop watching. Using that trope is unforgivable. Apparently gays can never be happy.

All it took for me was the trailer to "Lost Boys and Fairies," and I was like, 'No, I don't think so.'

When I watched the episode with the "incident" I did think to myself that's not going to sell it to the US market, the commercial TV focus groups would never have that. Do agree that it's a bit of the usual trope and was a bit disappointed, but it's not all doom and gloom, and there's a good redemption arc to the overall story too. There is a long history of UK dramas having a lot more grit to them, and so overall, I have to say good work BBC Wales, and nice to hear some Welsh language representation. Hopefully the gay writer Def James continues to do well.

It has nothing to do with UK dramas having more "grit" R540 and everything to do with cheapening and derailing an otherwise involving look at the challenges of gay adoption. If I were a gay adoptive father, I would have felt insulted by the ridiculous turn the story took.

Also, the redemption arc of the last hour was complete nonsense, setting some kind of speed record for dealing with issues of addiction and grief recovery. Does anyone really think that a man whose past traumas can be triggered by being hit by a ball can function as a stable single parent? That's not something you can just brush off with an "I'm sorry, it won't happen again". Yet that kind of fairy tale wish fulfillment is precisely what this show wants you to believe.

Two new bi characters this week: Benedict on Bridgerton is bi, and so is Frenchie on The Boys.

Of course Bridgerton had to use a threesome to bring out their character.

Frenchie's new boyfriend is cute, but with the way this show goes, he will probably be blown up in the next 2-3 episodes. He even got to kiss him! I hope Kimiko gets a partner soon.

R544 I know he won't last long. I'm just gonna enjoy this relationship while it lasts. It's funny how all the comic book geeks on twitter are freaking out about Frenchie having a boyfriend. They're so homophobic. Some of them protest too much. Maybe they get turned on by the kissing and that's why they react the way they do. Homophobes are often in denial/closeted. I'm just saying. This is also why I give credit to the show for introducing a gay love story, even if it won't last. Comic book shows like this hardly ever do, they might introduce lesbians, but never gay men.

So it would seem that one man's poignant story with a gut punch is another's "cheapening and derailing" R541. I enjoyed it but recognise that sentiment is bound to not be universal, and that's just fine.

Spanish show Respira on Netflix will have gay characters. It's hilarious that Manu Rios is straight in this though.

With the production change on Hollyoaks this week and the one-year time jump occurring next week, there will be some changes to the gay male characters in the village:

Metro is already reporting that the show will be going forward with a story involving Ste and Rex (seen at R552).

Sad to see Dillon leave, but I guess Lucas will do something (someone) if he's staying.

I find it odd that they would already break up Lucas and Dillon.

R572 There's some question as to whether this uncasting is the show's doing or whether Dass simply opted to leave on his own.

We know there have been actors who apparently took this production change as an opportunity to leave the show at this point in time (e.g. Scott, Warren, Kitty). While it's clear that others were part of the necessary cull and not happy about it (e.g. James, Sally, Cindy). When Hollyoaks announced Dillon was leaving they worded it that Dass "had chosen to take a step away from Hollyoaks," so it could be possible that he falls in the former camp. On another note, I don't think we've heard yet whether his current girlfriend, the actress who plays Peri on the show, is in or out yet.

I only watched Rykter because it was mentioned on here as being gay interest, and since then I've suffered 3 series of some bizarre story telling. Thea has gone from queen bitch to crystal omming hippy, Felix has taken her place and the SA at the cafe bitch has become a bitch. Meanwhile, Erik and Mathias briefly kissed, once, for 2 seconds.

On Emmerdale, twink Arthur has returned from Australia. From the spoiler, it sounds like he's still a virgin, having an 'awkward' date with a boy named Lewis.

R576 I'm Norwegian and I agree. This season sucks. It's really a shame. Season 1 and 2 were good (not great, this show has never been great), but it all went downhill this season. Nothing makes sense. Erik is acting out of character. The writing has been awful. At least the new episode today was a slight improvement. Mathias was on grindr, then watching gay porn, lol. This show is now more about Mathias and his struggles instead of Mathias and Erik and whether or not they will get together. At least Mathias is the one character the writers haven't ruined yet.

AppleTV+'s new French fashion series LA MAISON has Antoine Reinartz from "Anatomy of a Fall" as the gay nephew of the lead character.

R578 I'm not Norwegian, but I'm only 300km West of Bergen so not that far away! That's the annoying thing about the show, that it actually has a good premise, and although mostly amateurs having their first go at acting, some good cast members too. The wandering script that seems to forget what happened in previous episodes needs tightening up, add some more structure overall and a little bit more "Vesterøy" life and the rumours, seen as that what the show is called!
