The Lake on Video Prime has a gay storyline. I just finished the show and it's actually really funny. It consists of 8 episodes. The first half of the season was the strongest imo, definitely funnier than thr second half, but the whole show is good. Well worth the watch.

I'm in love with Riley from The Lake. Rugged, bearded handsome. Totally my type.

Just finished Heartbreak High on Netflix. It was horrible, god awful. AVOID at all costs.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 17, 2022 10:08 AM |
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR HEARTBREAK HIGH:
The gay guy (Darren) is not gay, he's "nonbinary" and goes by "they". So it's not actually a gay storyline. Also, the guy he falls in love with is asexual, so NO sex goes on between them. Darren tries to have sex with him, but Cash doesn't want to. That's pretty much the gist of the pathetic "gay storyline". Once again they make up excuses for the gays not to have sex, this time it's that one of them is "asexual" (LOL!) Oh yeah, and then they queerbait by teasing that Amerie's boyfriend Malakai is bi or gay, yet it all fizzles out into nothing. I have no idea what the fuck that whole storyline even was. He has a threesome with another guy and a girl, he then dreams about guys naked, he says he doesn't know who he is, he meets a guy at a party who he has chemistry with, who he compliments and they even go hiking together. Yet NOTHING! Absolutely fucking NOTHING! comes out of it. What the fuck was the whole point of it then? As I said: clearly queerbaiting.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 17, 2022 10:14 AM |
Not worth mentioning yet (maybe they reveal more in season two?), but Disney's Terri Incognita hints at the lead's sidekick being gay and having a crush on a guy who has a crush on the lead's antagonist, a bully who also happens to be the son of the chief of police. The show has the twinkiest lead since Teen Wolf and Alex Ryder.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 17, 2022 10:46 AM |
R17 Thanks, was thinking about watching it but looks like I'll avoid it. Was already on the fence since it looked like the main gay was already pretty much a stereotype.

The new Vampire Academy show has changed two characters from brothers to lovers. I'm assuming this is J August Richard's first gay role since he came out.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 17, 2022 3:53 PM |
J Agust played a gay dad on HBO Max's GENERATION. His husband was played by John Ross Bowie of THE BIG BANG THEORY and SPEECHLESS.

R21 He also played gay on the short lived drama Council of Dads

R20 My main question is, does Max Parker play gay? Do we at least see him nude?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 17, 2022 4:14 PM |
For a show that doesn't have gay characters, Heartbreak High seems to have quite a lot of guy on guy action.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 17, 2022 10:18 PM |
I believe that Max Parker's character is not gay r23 though I could be wrong. This Vampire Academy show is being helmed and executive produced by Julie Plec whose record with gay characters has been sorra mixed.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 18, 2022 5:02 AM |
R24 Watch the show then, if you don't believe me. Yes, there was a MMF threesome and I thought Malakai (Amerie's bf) had a gay awakeneing after it happened, but he didn't. He's apparently straight. Amerie pictured two guys kissing, but it wasn't real. And yes, Darren (the femme nonbinary gay guy) had a bed scene with his crush Cash, he started to jerk him off, but Cash stopped it because he's asexual. Darren had two other brief (as in one second) sex scenes with random guys. That was it. Sure, Darren and Cash kissed a few times but it didn't lead anywhere as Cash is "asexual" (lmao), funny how they picked one of two gays to be asexual. Why couldn't it have been a straight asexual guy, or one of the dykes? Oh no, it had to be one of the gays! Of course. As I said, the show had a ton of queerbaiting stuff. The most insulting thing was teasing that Malakai was gay or bi. The "gay storyline" if you can even call it that, was pathetic. It was actually offensive. That's how bad it was.

R18 I watched the entire show and not a single mention or even hint that the main's sidekick is gay. I have no idea why or how you got that impression? For me it looked like they wanted him to be with Uma.

The Summer I Turned Pretty has a bi male character. The actor is stunning, like really gorgeous! Too bad he got very little to do first season. No boyfriend to speak of and only one gay kiss. The rest of the time he spent drooling over the main girl, ugh. Hopefully he gets a boyfriend next season as the show has already been renewed.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 10, 2022 5:00 PM |
R42 Nothing really special so far. I haven't watched much though. The gay guy has AIDS (before you judge, this was in the 90s, so it's realistic, also, they're all dying, that's why they're there). The nurse is also gay. He talked about coming out. I like how they're slowly getting closer. Also, it's hilarious, but the nurse goes on and on about the movie IWTW, apparently he's a huge fan. Love the timing, just as we have a new IWTW show that is very gay.

BBC's Wreck
[quote] Ladhood’s Oscar Kennedy stars as Jamie, who boards the cruise ship from which his sister went missing after a chase with a knife-wielding psycho in a duck costume. He’s investigating what happened to her. The more questions he asks, the more horrifying the answers.
[quote] Being in a horror series is not ideal for any character, but LGBT characters fare particularly badly in the genre. Traditionally, they’re either characters who die early, or they are the killer themselves.
[quote] With Wreck, writer and creator Ryan J. Brown wanted to change this. That is why Jamie is gay and his sidekick Vivian (played by Thaddea Graham) is a lesbian.
[quote] Both get romances, and neither becomes a mass-murderer because of their sexual identity. In fact, these identities are the only thing they are sure about in the show's uncertain world.

R97 They're probably gonna retcon Tim to be 18 (or older) for it to be less weird. It would also have the added benefit of making more sense for his parents to let him go off with a bunch of strangers. (But I'm probably giving the very well known shitty writing way too much credit.)

I liked how Tim's father kept checking up on him in the first episode of S4. In the comics Tim's dad was worried about him being Robin. Tim eventually quit to assuage his fears IIRC, then his father gave him his blessings to be Robin.

R92 in the books for that series the two guys become a couple, hopefully the TV show follows through. It’s a big book series with Teens. Kind of brutal and dark, sort of amazing. Called Half Blood

R104 I'm an adult and I actually liked it. It didn't feel too watered down for the teens either. As a YA novel I expected the worst. I was susprised by the adult language and adult themes. I liked it a lot. Not only the gay storyline either, the entire show was actually good. Nathan and Gabriel had mad chemistry too. The only thing that annoyed me was that they spent so much time on the straight love story, when the gay story was much more interesting.

I'm watching Titans and ALL the male characters seem gay, which one is the gay again? This is what happens when you only cast gay actors that can't play straight convincingly. And no, I'm not self-hating. Many gay actors can indeed play straight convincingly, but a few can't. I don't know if any of the actors are gay irl, but that's how they come across on the show.

R110 His wikipedia used to say it but looks like it was removed because of a mistake with the source and because there wasn't an official statement. I do think he's likely bisexual but unless he's pushed out like Kit Connor, he's likely going to wait to come out.

Just binge-watched The English show Wrecked, and it's a pretty nice, gay themed slasher horror series. The final two episodes are quite scary when the viewer finds out what is going on. The gay (and lesbian) content is rather chaste (kissing and making out) not much nudity (a few ass shots), the gay guy is the lead and his story takes up most of the time of the series.

One Of Us Is Lying is pretty great. It's like Pretty Little Liars, but with one of the main cast being gay. Kris, the boyfriend, being the sassy voice of reason in a later episode of season two is pretty funny.
Spoiler for season two: That must be one hardcore reason why Jake was in rehab. Simon and Fiona got murdered to keep it a secret.

Season 2 of One of us is lying sucked ass. Cooper had very little screen time and Kris had even less, he was basically MIA until the last 3 episodes or so. The dykes got plenty of screen time though, of course. They got to kiss plenty, unlike the gays who got like two pecks. Last season was much better.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | November 17, 2022 5:59 PM |
Trust me when I say season 2 of the show is NOT worth it. The gay storyline barely got any screen time (as in the gay MALE storyline, the dykes got plenty, of course). The general story was also much weaker and more boring than the first season.

There is a Belgian detective show on Netflix called Unité 42. One of the characters in it is gay or at least same sex attracted. There isn’t much going on in terms of hook ups or relationships but that is pretty much the same for all the characters. He does at least get asked out. One of the others is a widow who imagines his dead wife, the girl has memories of her dead boyfriend and the final of the four is married with kids. It is a bit gruesome in places but fairly easy viewing if you enjoy that type of show.

I’m still watching 1899, but there are 3 gay characters so far, 2 of whom are pretty damn sexy. Nothing very long or explicit though. Netflix seems to shy away from that.

Welcome to Chippendales starring Kumail Nanjiani and Murray Bartlett. With Dan Stevens, Juliette Lewis, Robin de Jesús, and Andrew Rannells as guest stars.
From Gay Times:
[quote] Discussing De Noia, Bartlett added: “There is this trope of the tragic gay character who never finds happiness and dies in the end; I was very aware of not playing into that. We had a chance to explore Nick’s sexuality in a way that was interesting and three-dimensional and doesn’t make him a tragic figure in that way.”
[quote] Welcome to the Chippendales premieres 22 November in the U.S. on Hulu and 11 January in the UK on Disney Plus.

Granted I wouldn't buy Bernard being a teen, but just because James Scully is 30 doesn't mean Bernard is. Hell, Joseph Morgan's character is 24 on the show. Bernard is probably meant to be very early twenties.
This is the same thing that tripped up some viewers of THE BASTARD SON...Gabriel is 19 but people assumed he was 29/30 because the character's ex was 29 and the actor playing Gabriel is 30.

R158 It fucking sucks. Netflix would rather suppport that stupid Heartstopper show which I can't stand. The guys do not act like normal teenagers, they don't party, drink or have sex. It feels like a watered down version for the masses. Once again the gays are neutered. And the show is celebrated. I don't get it. I hated that stupid fucking show. Going out for a date and buying fucking MILKSHAKES?! Are they 5 or 15? Even Elite is more realistic than this. And that scene where they were laying on the floor together I thought they would finally fuck, but no. They were just staring at each other, a small kiss, then Kit's character got up and left. As if two horny guys would not have sex?! Why is Heartstopper critically acclaimed again? Nothing about that show makes any sense. There is no way Kit's character would date Joe's character in real life. Don't even get me started with the two dimensional characters. They were either perfect or bullies. Again, they did not act like normal human beings, let alone two horny teenagers.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | December 11, 2022 6:13 AM |

Engagement is key when it comes to Netflix. Netflix only cares about what is going on at active Netflix accounts, what paying subscribers watch (and how long).
It comes down to the good ol' "If you like something, support it financially". If you watch Netflix shows illegally, don't whine when they get canceled.

So Reginald The Vampire ended the season with a gay kiss between two unexpected people... the super hot (dorky hot) slushy guy (who stripped off his shirt to show off his awesome bod) that Reginald spent half the season feeding off of, and the stoic vampire assistant that we all thought was in a relationship with the guy who sired Reginald.
And while on the one hand it did seem to come out of nowhere, on the other hand it actually felt right and earned "in the moment".
I have no idea if this show will get a season 2 or not. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I've heard exactly zero buzz about it. I think episode 8 was epically good, and showed just how much potential the show has. And it ended on a cliffhanger of sorts even though it completely wrapped all the main plot points of the first season.

R136 Elite is trash. It went from my favourite Netflix tv series with gay characters to my most hated in season six.
They completely obliterated the gay male couple and the gay dad this season. They went all-in on the disgusting old kill-the-gays trope. It was a complete betrayal of their gay viewers and as someone who survived being stabbed and beaten in a gay bashing it was a bit traumatic for me to watch. I won’t be tuning in again.
Plus all the new characters are deadly dull as well. Such a disappointment.

R174 I agree. It's such a shame because season 5 was so good. It actually reminded me of the first few seasons. It was just fun. OTT sure, but still funny and entertaining. Elite lost me with season 6. It was way too dark, too much homopobia and not enough happiness for the gays. Not enough gay sex either.

R177 Yes, I do recommend Elite, season 5 was wonderful, and most of the series up to this had been very gay-positive. It was very frank in it's depictions of joyful gay male sexuality, something I'd never seen in a tv show before, and Manu Rios is just so beautiful, and a talented actor as well. I'm definitely going to follow his future projects.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | December 13, 2022 6:04 AM |
Elite isn't a feel-good show. Pretty much all characters get screwed over and don't get their happy endings. Expecting that the gay characters are being treated differently is, like, WTF?

Frank in gay depictions? Not certain what you mean by “frank, “ but I don't know any gay people who live like the depiction on Elite. One thing I do like about the show is the inclusion of male bisexuality, fluidity, and mostly straight behavior.

R202 Thanks. It makes me sad. I don't trust American tv shows anymore. They clearly hate gay characters (as in male, they love lesbians). I laughed when that idiot claimed Netflix cancel more lesbian shows than gay (male) shows. That is simply not true as the majority of gay shows have been cancelled. We basically only have Young Royals and Heartstopper left. And lesbians have more representation as is. If we lose 10 gay characters we have like 5 left. If the lesbians lose 10 they have like 100 left. There's a reason I only watch British shows these days, with Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road.

by Anonymous | reply 208 | February 5, 2023 7:51 PM |
R208 One is gay but identifies as non-binary. There's another gay guy but he's asexual so he never has sex (how ridiculous). Then there's Malakai, a guy who had a MMF threesome. After the threesome he sorta had a gay awakening. I think he's bi or gay and I hope they explore more of that next season. They dropped a couple of hints about his sexuality last season but it never went any further. I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did. It was such a letdown. I really hope they do more with him and his sexuality next season.

by Anonymous | reply 211 | February 6, 2023 5:42 AM |
Don’t know if anyone’s still watching Hollyoaks or is a longtime viewer, but recently I’ve been revisiting very old episodes that I saw as a preteen (early-mid 2000s), and I’ve noticed a massive retcon—that Ste Hay is actually a bisexual, pretty even Kinsey 3, though nowadays he’s played like a Kinsey 6 gay man in line with his actor (Kieron Richardson).
Ste’s 2006-9 inaugural storyline with love interest/babymama Amy Barnes shows him as being consistently and strongly in love and lust with her (albeit in an unhealthy way). His closet key, the much older and more villainous bisexual man Brendan, is upheld by many fans as Ste’s greatest love of all, but honestly seeing and remembering how abusive that relationship was—moreso than Ste & Amy’s—it’s hard to accept and stomach that. And even after Ste tried to move on from Brendan and from Amy (and I’m not sure he ever fully did move on from Amy), he went on to date a girl named Rae that he seemed genuinely crazy about and was happily prepared to have a baby with her, too. They were even shown in the aftermath of mutually pleasurable and consensual sex in a few episodes, as were Ste & Amy. Fast forward several years (through a few serial shortlived m/m relationships, and plenty of episodes of promiscuity), and once again he willingly gets into the same situation with yet another woman named Sierra. No other character expect him to pursue women or ‘act straight’ at this point in the timeline, but he’s still clearly interested in females sometimes too. How could Ste be a fully gay man, then?
It’s strange that he desired and pursued women as much as men until he turned about 28-30 years old, yet identified and called himself gay for most of that time, and then according to the show suddenly and quietly decided he was exclusively gay in behaviour as well as name after all. I really can’t get my head round it.
The only watertight explanation I can come up with is that actor Kieron lobbied for his bisexual character to only have romantic or love scenes with men after he came out, and due to Ste’s legacy and popularity they caves to that demand. There’s also probably an element that gay storylines have historically been big draws for the show, garnering wider and more loyal viewer demographics. Still, I think it’s a betrayal of the legit backstory of a beloved character people grew up with. I love Ste, whether he’s gay or bi or straight, but I’m a fan of the 2000s version as much as the current one, and the show is making it tricky to accept and enjoy both in their retconned canon.

R214 Of course. Wouldn't expect anything else from an American tv show. No offense to you Americans, but you treat your gay characters horribly. I never trust American tv shows. This is how bad it's gotten. I will never forgive how they treated Kevin on Riverdale. You also have a tendency to create asexual, neutered stereotypes. The few shows that have decent gay representation end up getting canceled. There are a few exceptions: Ghosts and Our Flag Means Death. Those shows are good. But in general: gay representation sucks in America. Thank god for British and Spanish tv shows.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | February 10, 2023 6:28 AM |
R212 We know Ste's son is going to come out as gay and have "mature storylines." Can't wait! Hollyoaks is not a soap to shy away from sex, including gay sex. Well... as much as can be shown on a British soap I guess. Still better than the neutered gay characters on American tv though.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | February 10, 2023 6:30 AM |
R217 really? Lucas will be gay? That’s interesting. The bi father-to-gay son timeline. Not to be too cynical, but I suppose the writers had to find some angle to make Lucas relevant and worth keeping on as a character—it’s a running joke on Brit soap boards that everyone forgets he exists and that he’s just a background NPC.
Tbh though, if you’d asked me to predict if and whether Ste would have a gay child, I would sooner have said that Leah would end up lesbian. The actress and the character favours the lesbian Jojo Siwa, for a start. Plus there’s the way she acts around female classmates vs. male.
But this is Hollyoaks, after all, where apparently no sexuality is set in stone, and anyone can be anything...
by Anonymous | reply 218 | February 10, 2023 12:47 PM |
^^^ Leah isn't Ste's bio dad. My only question is that since they've recast Lucas with an older actor is he now older than his big sister?
by Anonymous | reply 219 | February 10, 2023 1:07 PM |
R219 Ste raised Leah from infancy and he’s the only consistent father she’s ever known, so I don’t think that matters too much. Most of Ste’s storyline from 2007-2009 involved his efforts to be there for her and Amy, giving most of his time & money to support them (though admittedly he didn’t always make good choices on that road).
Plus, her real biological father easily and quite literally signed away any claim and access to her (thanks to dearly missed gay power couple James & Harry, no less), after just one half-hearted tokenistic attempt to reestablish contact when Leah was already a preteen.
For all intents and purposes, Ste is Leah’s only legitimate father.

R222 me too! Jarry were perfect for each other, one of my top three gay couples in all of Hollyoaks. Imo breaking them up permanently and killing Harry was the biggest misstep the show has made in recent times.
What do you make of the current James/Ste s/l, in light of that? Personally, I find it forced, clunky and hard to stomach. Ste had antipathy with James from the off, and I don’t think the characters or actors have romantic chemistry (and their only sexual spark is hate-based). Perhaps I’m being too cynical and too attached to the past, though...

“Uncoupled” wasn’t great but it was entertaining. Glad Showtime picked it up. It had been in the Netflix Top 10 Shows in the U.S. for over a week (unusual for a gay-themed series) so I was surprised when it was canceled.
Not sure what the politics are over there now, they’ve let Scott Frank and Mike Flanagan get away from them and between them those guys wrote, directed, produced five of Netflix’s biggest, most popular limited series. I don’t get the Netflix strategy at all. And clearly client relations isn’t a strong suit.

That "big controversy" happened in 2016 and yet he was still in the show for another 3 years after, not that I watch Hollyoaks much nowadays, after all it's just a fluffy daytime soap aimed at teen to millennial audiences, used to be good hangover TV watching the catchup on Sunday mornings though.

R226 if Lucas Hay does know that he’s gay at his young age (14, 15 now?), that presents a very interesting and unique challenge for his dad.
Because Ste didn’t even consciously know, explore or confront his own feelings for men until he was about age 20/21, and even after he did continued to live as a bisexual. Ste can generally empathise with Lucas as far as coming out or facing prejudice as a men, but honestly he doesn’t know what it’s like being out or navigating sex & love as a completely gay teen, because he wasn’t ever one himself.

by Anonymous | reply 242 | February 12, 2023 2:44 PM |
Seriously R241?! You must surely know that Hollyoaks is not a documentary and whatever writer has been being hired this week to write the next episode is not going to give a flying fuck about "canon" or anything other than what gets good viewing numbers and doesn't upset the advertisers.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | February 13, 2023 5:55 PM |
R243 perhaps they indeed care not at all about canon in the Hollyoaks writers’ room—I suspect you’re right.
But I hope they know that, in this instance and many others, along with the inconveniences in the bathwater they’re throwing out a very healthy and lively plot baby.

The Spanish rom-com series In Love All Over Again on Netflix features a G(ay)BFF. It stars Georgina Amorós (Elite), Franco Masini (Rebelde) and Albert Salazar (The Boarding School: Las Cumbres).
It's quite funny and sexy, yet mostly straight, but you see a lot more of Franco Masini than in Rebelde where he plays a gay character.

The positively awful looking "Gotham Knights" that is starting on The CW soon includes the character Cullen Row, who is gay in the comics. R346 I think there was plenty more they could do with Tyler. I could go on about it, but won't. Pointless now. In short, I don't think they should have killed the character off. .. And people still angry about something that happened over three years ago? Nuts.
I think the rumors about Aled (the actor) possibly leaving may have been spurred by his starting his personal training business 9 months ago. Besides that, he's also recently started coaching at a gym in Cardiff.

R346 I don't think he's gay though, but the Spanish actor is sus. He follows many gay actors, influencers and other celebrities. He was also gushing about the gay kiss in the trailer. Then again... he's Spanish, which throws off my gaydar. He could just be gay friendly, and he is following 1400 people, so there are bound to be a few gays, but at the same time... RJ King, Sam Cushing etc? He is most likely gay or bi imo.

by Anonymous | reply 364 | April 8, 2023 7:02 PM |
Alma was slow and dull. 😴
by Anonymous | reply 365 | April 8, 2023 8:03 PM |
R360 I thought the same. Maybe because throughout the short-lived series Imposters I was hoping him and Parker Young would cross that line.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | April 9, 2023 5:16 AM |
ATAV2 premieres tonight. This video has some gay scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | April 10, 2023 6:00 PM |
r368 I bet that was the entirely scene of them on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | April 11, 2023 3:47 AM |
R369 Nope, they definitely had more scenes. They are both main characters.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | April 11, 2023 4:46 AM |
R369 R370 Here's an article about them. (Put through google translate.)
by Anonymous | reply 371 | April 11, 2023 6:09 AM |
R363- thanks, finished watching the series. The sceneries r gorgeous
by Anonymous | reply 372 | April 11, 2023 6:34 AM |
To each their own, but these recent foreign shows seem dull and lack hot hunky bros to lure my interest
by Anonymous | reply 375 | April 11, 2023 10:28 PM |
Are there any shows in ENGLISH that have gay characters? Jesus Christ, like 90% of every show or movie mentioned in here is in some foreign language!
by Anonymous | reply 376 | April 11, 2023 11:04 PM |
any current shows with hot nonstraight gym bros?
by Anonymous | reply 377 | April 11, 2023 11:07 PM |
R376 Yes, but most of them are awful. American tv shows have treated their gay characters horribly (with a few exceptions) over the past few years. If I hear an American tv show is adding gay characters I'm like meh... still don't care because I know it's going to suck. I'd rather try British shows if I were you, like Eastenders or Ted Lasso.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | April 11, 2023 11:36 PM |
R378 Ted Lasso is actually an American show set in the UK
by Anonymous | reply 379 | April 12, 2023 1:05 AM |
Station 19 and 911: Lone Star both have prominent gay characters and storylines.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | April 12, 2023 1:55 AM |
9-1-1: Lone Star had an excellent episode tonight, focusing mainly on TK and Carlos.
On American network television.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | April 12, 2023 3:50 AM |
R379 OK, so one of the exceptions then I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 382 | April 12, 2023 3:59 AM |
R376 When America stops treating lesbians and gays different is when I'm gonna give praise to a gay storyline on tv. There have been multiple occasions where the lesbian was allowed to have sex, while the gay guy was not - on the same show. Truth is America seems to have an issue with gay men. And it becomes obvious on tv. I'm not saying it's always the case, but most of the time it is. That's why I prefer to watch gay storylines from abroad, even if it means I have to watch with Eglish subs.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | April 12, 2023 6:53 AM |
Fun fact: the guy who plays Marcos is together with the guy who plays Antonio in real life. Watch from 53:20.
by Anonymous | reply 384 | April 12, 2023 1:49 PM |
Teen Wolf treated gay men decently. There was always more than just one token, and they had relationships and dating lives and kisses and stuff just like the straight characters. There was never a 'very special episode', and nobody ever treated it as anything but normal.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | April 12, 2023 11:58 PM |
In terms of gay content, Europeans do better than Americans by far.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | April 13, 2023 1:18 AM |
R385 Nope. Teen Wolf treated its gays horribly too. Sure, they got to kiss, but they never got proper storylines. Also, they had like 3 different gays over the course of the show. One died, one just left abruptly etc. They weren't really integrated into the show at all. Gays on European shows are much more integrated and get more screen time (in general anyway, there's always the odd exception).
by Anonymous | reply 387 | April 13, 2023 2:40 AM |
Teen Wolf did have a decent amount of gay/bi characters but the writing for them wasn't great. Danny should not have disappeared and they killed Brett off, Jackson being bi felt tacked on. Although i liked Mason and Corey.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | April 13, 2023 8:32 AM |
Teen Wolf was teen schlock. Vapid and shallow, style over substance. The most character development the side characters were allowed to show was going from weak to strong or from bad to good. The LGBT representation was there, but it was more about giving the young LGBT demographic a reason to watch the show (apart from the male eye candy for the Gays).
It was entertaining (and I enjoyed it for what it was), but it wasn't exactly a masterpiece of high class entertainment. It had many, many, many flaws.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | April 13, 2023 10:38 AM |
R389 oh you're not allowed to say that now according to fans because it's sexualising the actors 🤣 And it makes them uncomfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | April 13, 2023 11:08 AM |
r390, I wouldn't say it to their face (or post on their social media), but it's their own damn fault making themselves uncomfortable reading comments on an anonymous message board.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | April 13, 2023 11:14 AM |
R391 I can't even remember what was said. But Tyler H made some comment, maybe it was at a con and that was it. Fans used it as an excuse to bash anyone (including his co stars) if they talked about his body. One actress who played his love interest said he was *gasp* hot and it was the end of the fucking world.
Of course it was from the same fans who don't have an issue writing nsfw fanfic or fanart of these actors.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | April 13, 2023 11:24 AM |
[quote]but it wasn't exactly a masterpiece of high class entertainment
Which is true of 99% of the schlock mentioned in this thread, but it's weird you're focusing all your ire and bashing on this one show.
It's fun. It had positive LGBT representation. Every flavor. And it was all no big deal to anyone. It was ground breaking for 2011. To dismiss it like the few messages above is insulting. Especially given such representation is extremely rare even to this day.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | April 13, 2023 9:45 PM |
With ref to R379 - That makes a lot of sense now, only watched one at a friends house but was struck by the "cartoon" like quality, hard to explain exactly but that it's made and aimed at a US audience makes a lot of sense now. Still, gentle feel good comedy well done if that's your thing.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | April 16, 2023 3:49 PM |
In other news, when are we going to see some decent representation when it comes to a good gay TV series that's not in Spanish? My Spanish is terrible, but good enough that I also know that the subtitles are going off script which is, erm, confusing! Dubbed into English does not help me out here, the voice acting is usually terrible and unnatural. I've tried the gay streamers, OUT TV, Dekko etc. and to be blunt, their stuff is amateurish and often 10 minutes long, with a 2 minute recap, into and outro, even the films they carry are dated at best, dated and a university film club output at best.

Technically, a movie (but the continuation of a TV show).
King Aethelstan and Ingilmundr in Netflix's Seven Kings Must Die.

I do wonder if Harry Gilby (who plays Aethalstan) might also partake of the love that dare not speak its name?

You never know with these British boys... might as well be. He has played trans in 'Just Charlie.'
Here's the entire scene by the way.

Emmerdale just revealed that Nicky and his big beefy mate, Ally, whom we recently met, are something more than mates -- secretly meeting out on the road and kissing.

Nicky came out on Emmerdale. To nobody's surprise. He's a male nanny ffs!
by Anonymous | reply 403 | May 11, 2023 7:08 AM |
R399 Sorry, didn't see your reply until now. I am very impressed with the kissing. It's passionate and convincing. Is the actor playing Nicky gay in real life? Massive change from the closed mouth kissing from Robron.

R378 Ted Lasso isn't British at all part from the location. The Britain represented on the show is unrecognisable to British people apart from the landmarks. They get so many things wrong it's pretty laughable, though it is otherwise enjoyable.

The animated Disney kid's show The Ghost and Molly McGee revealed a regular ghost character on the show is gay and has a boyfriend who is voiced by Vincent Rodriguez III (Crazy Ex Girlfriend).
by Anonymous | reply 406 | May 11, 2023 5:33 PM |
We just lost 2 gay characters, since the CW has now cancelled Kung Fu.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | May 12, 2023 9:27 AM |
R407 All gay shows end up getting canceled because they always add gays to shitty shows. They add lesbians to more shows, and shows that are critically acclaimed and/or fan favorites. That never happens to gay shows. That's why tv has so few gay male characters right now. Also, America doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to gay characters. Most of the times the gay characters are treated horribly, like they get very little screen time, they are neutered, they don't get a love life etc. If you want good gay representation you better watch foreign shows.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | May 12, 2023 10:06 AM |
R407 it's not like the CWs had a great track record when it comes to gay characters anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | May 13, 2023 2:06 PM |
I disagree with most of your comment, r408.
Some positive examples on network tv:
Station 19
9-1-1:Lone Star
Promised Land
Big sky
Plus too numerous to mention on streamers like Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Max, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 410 | May 13, 2023 2:11 PM |
Promised Land and Big Sky are canceled though

Looks like Superman & Lois is gonna get canned before they can explore Jonathan's comic accurate sexuality...
I mean they probably were never going to anyways (CW only allows lezzies) but now the, like, 5% chance is going to 0%.
by Anonymous | reply 412 | May 14, 2023 4:21 AM |
R412 I have a feeling S&L will be cancelled but other fans think it will move to Max?
I don't think Todd ever had any intention of making Jonathan bi. He gets treated like shit by everyone compared to bratty Jordan. And they made Sarah bi for a cheating storyline. I'm baffled when they say how great the writing is because it's very CW.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | May 14, 2023 7:37 AM |
R413 because a number of them were comparing it Supergirl, that's why.
by Anonymous | reply 414 | May 14, 2023 8:25 AM |
R413 Of course they made the woman bi. Typical. Yet they can't make any of the male characters bi or gay. Hypocritical.
by Anonymous | reply 415 | May 14, 2023 8:25 AM |
More shows get canceled than getting renewed. That has always been the case. But recently it seems like it's about business mergers and sales. CW is cleaning house, because the owners want to sell it and make it look more appealing (aka profitable) for buyers.
by Anonymous | reply 416 | May 14, 2023 8:32 AM |
R414 compared to the other Arrowverse shows, it is better. But that's not really saying much.

Enjoyed 911: Lone Star, thought I'd try Station 19, I'm only 4 episodes in but it's a bit too dumbed down even for me, they may as well sit down and look to camera saying "and the moral of this episode is....", does it get better?

Just watched the season 4 finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star and the last half hour, at the wedding of Carlos and Tyler, was just amazing and the whole 30 minutes had me in tears, especially co-star Gina Torres singing a truly beautiful rendition of Sondheim’s “Being Alive.”
Well done, bravos all around.
