Sexy Jake Lacey plays the perv, a bald headed Colin Hanks plays the father, Anna Pacquin the mother. That documentary about them on Netflix was crazy. I would love to see this but I don’t have Peacock.
Friend Of The Family - a series about that crazy “Abducted in Plain Sight” family

Love Jake Lacy. Hopefully he has a sex scene with Colin Hanks.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 21, 2022 5:32 AM |
r1 (possible Spoiler) In the documentary if I remember correctly there is a handjob
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 21, 2022 5:43 AM |
I don’t recall the Netflix documentary specifying the sex act, but when I watched it I assumed daddy took it up the ass.
If it gets fantastic reviews I’ll consider getting Peacock for a month so I can binge watch it. I think it’s done by the same team who did Hulu’s “Candy” earlier this year which I thought was very lackluster.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 21, 2022 5:56 AM |
Oh my r3 I didn’t think daddy did that, that’s even more messed up
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 21, 2022 6:00 AM |
After seeing Jake do the shameless plug for the series during the Emmys I watched the trailer for it and realized I had seen the documentary, but went back and watched the whole thing again. It was just as disturbing and horrific the second time. If Jake can pull this off, he might be able to do what Darren Criss did for the Versace murder series and sweep awards.
One thing that stood out for me this time was that they were Mormon. I watched Under the Banner of Heaven this year and read Unmask Alice, about the crazy Mormon author of Go Ask Alice, who also used the very tragic situation of another Mormon family for the basis of different salacious book. I think that actress who wrote the Glad My Mom Died book was also Mormon. So what is it about Mormons that all these twisted awful things are going on with followers of this faith, or quite frankly cult, as I see it. I’ve also heard that an unprecedented number of porn stars are Mormon too, beyond the obvious Legrand Wolf and company. There seems to be a common thread.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 15, 2022 5:58 PM |
It’s on Peacock so this won’t register with most people, as very few have it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 15, 2022 6:00 PM |
Look up "Average White Guy (AWG)" in the dictionary, and Jake Lacey's photo is there.
So naturally some of DL is obsessed with him.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 15, 2022 6:05 PM |
Hmmm, I found this looking for my own answer to R6 and also brings Elizabeth Smart into play as well. Very interesting. Didn’t Smart’s father turn out to be Gay and the father in this came across as gayer than a three dollar bill.

You can get Peacock today (9/15/22) for $1.99/mo. for 12 months, instead of $4.99.
Or you can choose Peacock Premium Plus (no ads) for $9.99/mo.

I still don’t really know what Peacock or Paramount is, let alone their differences. It was very bad marketing to chose names that are easily mixed up.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 15, 2022 6:38 PM |
Peacock is NBC, Paramount Plus is CBS.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 15, 2022 6:53 PM |
So what’s the ABC streaming service?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 15, 2022 6:58 PM |
Jake could kidnap me any day.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 15, 2022 7:29 PM |
The main difference is Paramount Plus has more than three times the subscribers that Peacock has.
Doubt either will make it long term but Peacock is on the ropes.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 15, 2022 8:51 PM |
OK, I’m the one who didn’t know the difference between Peacock and Paramount, and while I guessed the relationship with NBC and Peacock I didn’t realize the original big three networks ( providing ABC has some similar streaming platform) have these off shoot payed streaming services. So what’s happening here I presume, that I didn’t understand until now, is that the bIg three networks are taking their best materials, their A game programming and putting it on streaming platform and making people pay for it, leaving only the shitty stuff for their regular network programming? So them feeling sad or bad about not getting participation trophies at the Emmys is really their own fault, they are gutting their networks of quality shows in a greedy attempt to grab money programming their streaming stations? God, you really need to have a media studies degree to keep up with all this manipulation and backstabbing going on behind the scenes in media. Is still don’t understand the Discovery HBO shit.

r8 Jack Lacy is gorgeous in a DILF or hottest dad at the neighborhood BBQ type of way. His body is his main draw but I love his average/nice guy face. He's got that perfect husband material look down to a science.
I hope this is great for him, I'll be watching.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 16, 2022 12:59 AM |
r16 not really. The streaming services let them do more prestige dramas or mini series that could never air on normal network TV. For instance, there are no rules so they can compete with HBO without the FCC or sponsors (commercial buyers) get up in arms. FCC doesn't control streaming and with streaming you may or may not buy commercial blocks for a specific type of show but more than likely just pay to have your commercials run on all of a service's shows/movies that matches your target audience. So instead of say a sponsor worried about NCIS being too adult, they just worry about how many eyes from the drama section are reaching their female demo on the streaming service rather than focus on individual shows.
The content providers have a lot more freedom and pressure to create buzz worthy shows so streaming services are shooting their own movies and creating their own content, while keeping the money makers on network TV.
Finally, without cable most people won't bother with network TV. Most TVs don't have antennas so if you've cut the cord you may only be watching via streaming, hence Paramount + and all the others.
For a long time people asked to have control over what channels they get. Cable companies couldn't be flexible so the networks followed Netflix into this ale-cart style entertainment. You are actually get more and better options now than ever. So many series are being created that couldn't before streaming. It's hard to keep up on the many shows available right now. We are still in or coming down from a true golden age of TV. I love it!

It starts tomorrow I am debating on getting Peacock as I already am paying for Hulu, Prime, Netflix, and Apple TV. I’ve been wanting to watch Mr. Mercedes and I think that is also on Peacock but it seems like one of the lesser streaming services.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 5, 2022 5:23 AM |
SEXY?! If mayonnaise were a person, it would look like Jake Lacey.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 5, 2022 12:21 PM |
The cost is how they get you. Every time I think about dumping one, I talk myself out of it because 1) Something I want to see might get released after I cancel and 2) It's only $5.50 a month
It gets me EVERY TIME.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 5, 2022 12:25 PM |
ABC's streaming service is Hulu. They're both owned by Disney.

If you have Comcast internet you can get Peacock premium for free if you let them send you a Flex box (streaming box.) You don't actually have to use the box. I have the free Peacock, and then pay $5 per month to upgrade to ad free. I have never hooked up their box, and watch via AppleTV and iPad.

I had never even heard of this doc until a few months ago and watched it!
That FLAMING dad was comedic gold.
He told me he was sexually frustrated and he was clearly HARD and asked me to masturbate him!
So of course, I DID!!!!!!
(My mouth was agape and then I laughed hysterically for a long time)

I guess Jan’s parents will come off as slightly less idiotic here than in the documentary, but not by much.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 10, 2022 3:02 AM |
r43 they still come off as complete idiots, the poor lawyer trying to help them. I do notice the sympathetic spin when they show the parents getting sexually involved with B.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 10, 2022 6:45 AM |
The ironic part is Jan's mother became a counselor later. She should not be counseling anyone because I feel ike the parents still are in denial about a lot of it.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 10, 2022 6:50 AM |
R45, most people who work in psych have some deep trauma they’re working through, so that tracks.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 10, 2022 11:55 AM |
Did “B” also use the excuse that the Mormon Aliens wanted them to have sex with the mother and father too?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 10, 2022 11:58 AM |
r47 the daughter and mother worked on this show so of course it will show their family sympathetically. Brother B told Bob Broberg (Jan's father) that he had to take care of his urge so he didn't cheat on his wife so Bob Broberg gave him a hand job (they made it look like he felt it was his christian duty to keep B from going astray). The last episode B straight up seduced the mother.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 10, 2022 12:39 PM |
R48, Colin Hanks acts super disgusted in the scene and it comes across almost like a rape. Something tells me it went down much smoother in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 10, 2022 12:44 PM |
In real life, it wasn’t his hand that gave Brother B his much needed relief!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 10, 2022 12:47 PM |
Yes r49. Also I think Jan's mother was a bit more hot to trot for B too but this makes her look like a lamb led to the slaughter.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 10, 2022 12:47 PM |
I cannot stand B's wife. The Brobergs were much too nice to her too.
I would love to hear B's son's version.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 10, 2022 12:48 PM |
r46 I realize that. But IMO Jan's mother is still not being "emotionally honest" about her part in this.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 10, 2022 12:55 PM |
R49 - AGREED. That scene was so weird - the choice to make it seem like Brother B essentially forced him to give a hand job? It was so strange and I don’t believe that’s how it actually went down. The Colin Hanks character wouldn’t even look at his dick… girl please.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 10, 2022 2:36 PM |
I can only see Jake Lacy as "Plop" from that awful final season of The Office.

Jake looked hot when he was released from the Mexican prison.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 10, 2022 5:49 PM |
In the documentary the mom reminisced about "exciting times" with the man who raped her child.🤮
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 10, 2022 5:55 PM |
Yes I remember thinking the parents were completely vile in the documentary. In this series, they seem to be portraying them as clueless.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 10, 2022 6:25 PM |
[quote]“How do you say ‘thank you’ in Norwegian?”
R27 I admit to not getting the joke! Can anyone explain why B says that to Bob after the handjob? Colin Hanks is perfect as dad Bob, depicting all his conflicting emotions. Whoever is playing B's wife is also good; she's such an emotional mess, it's hard to believe anyone took her seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 12, 2022 11:23 PM |
In the first episode early minutes when the family arrives at B’s house, doesn’t the Dad say something foreign and goes “that’s ‘hello’ in Norwegian!” Which to me was weird, like they where trying to present them as Lutherans instead of Mormons and throw you off. They did show B in his magic underwear at one point though.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 12, 2022 11:31 PM |
Bob and Mary Ann (Jan's parents) and Gail (B's wife) make Jello look calm. Great acting all around.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 12, 2022 11:58 PM |
I just watched the "Abducted in Plain Sight" documentary on Netflix. Now I have no interest in continuing to watch the Friend of the Family. Ugh. These two families were the perfect storm. Of course, this is about Jan's family but does anyone know what happened to "B's" boys? Mom Gail was an emotional and mental disaster. Where did those boys wind up? They are men in 2022.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 13, 2022 4:14 AM |
I just saw the doc recently too... Where was I for the last 5 years?
Anyway- Its pure comedy gold.
The mother getting wet while talking about her relationship with B. Each interview she gets more and more harlot-y.
"He made me WET y'all!!!!!!"
And then the gay as balls father. HE seemed like such a nice man, and he must have had a tortured life because he was as GAY AS A HORSE'S BALLS!!!!!
"B said he wasn't getting any at home. And he was clearly erect. So I JERKED HIM OFF IN THE CAR!!!!!!!!!! Oh Jesus!!! I don't know to this day WHY I DID THAT!!! But I jerked him off!!!!!!!"
My mouth was agape and I busted out laughing for quite a long time.

R18, Peacock exemplifies the problem with the proliferation of all these streaming channels in that it's not available through Amazon. It's also not an app on my rather old smart TV. I can subscribe and stream through my laptop, but that means connecting the laptop to the TV every time I want to watch, which is a pain in the ass. I'm sure as hell not going to watch movies or TV shows on my laptop screen when there's a 55" TV a few away.
There's probably a way to get the app on my TV, but it's extra work, and why would I do that when so many other options are available through Amazon, plus the Netflix, Hulu and Paramount I already have?
This is all such stupid planning when all the services would do better if there were an easy why to choose and subscribe to them in one place.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 6, 2022 10:20 PM |
R8 and R20, some of us like "AWGs" and mayonnaise. You do your tattooed freaks, and we'll do our handsome, clean-cut white guys, OK? Just like we'll keep putting mayo on turkey sandwiches while you experiment with agave-flavored sriracha and passionfruit chutney.
By the way, using "average white guy" as a derogatory term is racist.

Watching the last episode of the miniseries now. I didn’t know Jan Broberg was also an actress (She has a lot of credits for minor roles on IMDB). She plays the family therapist in the last episode. Gross.
Peacock also released a new documentary on this case. Probably more favorable to the family than the one on Netflix. Has anyone seen it? Is it worth watching?
