Only the pilot has aired, second episode tomorrow, Thursday. I liked the first episode. The story had a brisk pace, the cuts between A- and B-story maybe a tad ADD. But Astin and MGH have perfect chemistry. Hard to believe that Gena Davis was originally cast as the mother. She played in the original pilot; then they recast with MGH. My only complaint, just based on the first episode: MGH seems to overact a bit. But I'm sure with more nuances in her backstory she will soften a bit.

I enjoyed the pilot. I find Astin charming and Marcia Gay Harden is chewing the scenery in a very fun way. Aside from Astin I don't think there's any connection to Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist as far as writers or creators but I still got a similar tonal vibe to that show, just without the musical numbers. I'll watch again.

Why would they fire Academy Award winner Geena David?!? She has way more name recognition than Gay Hardon.

Maybe lack of chemistry, or maybe lacking a needed comedic talent? I don't know. So many reasons possible.
