We don't know for sure yet, but though her body sustained burns, she did not fry up like a crisp. in fact when they took her out of the car it looked like her clothes were done to her clothes. We know she was conscious after the impact and spoke with an initial responder who crawled in from the back to speak to her. It sounds like the damage was mostly internal--breathing all that superheated air floating with horrible ash particles from the car and the house.

I have heard it rumored she said something in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and that that was the end of her consciousness. But I have no idea how accurate that is or if it's just a rumor.

Anoxic brain injuries are caused by a complete lack of oxygen to the brain, which results in the death of brain cells after approximately four minutes of oxygen deprivation.

She's not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead.

R100 - an anoxic brain INJURY can occur when toxic oxygen (or whatever) gets to the brain.

4 minutes is total oxygen deprivation. An anoxic brain INJURY can vary - oxygen deprivation (under water too long) or inhaling toxic air for too long, as Anne did - results may vary. Completely depriving the brain of oxygen will be fatal after about 4 minutes. A toxic oxygen load to the brain ... depends.

I looked it up too, and the results included pics and video of people in rehab after an anoxic event.

Where Anne is concerned, I think she could have survived what burns she had. The car interior never caught fire. The lungs? TRASH. The anoxic injury to her brain probably did her a favor in taking her out before her lungs could do the job.

I could see her desperately gulping for air but it’s not providing oxygen because of the smoke damage. Those take longer to kill you - for the organ that's damaged to stop functioning and become useless, for the system that depends upon it to feel the absence.

The neighbors arrived to help before the first responders did but could not reach her because of how the car was stuck, and then the smoke drove them out. The first responders had to call heavy rescue to get the car out cause they could only get Anne out once the car was out. So she was stuck in there a long time, no fatal injuries from the impact, but forced to breathe in superheated, toxic fumes for nearly an hour.

I think the car malfunctioned. She drove around the block 3 times before driving into the hedge, which I'm going to bet she thought would be enough to stop the car. That she managed to miss the fire hydrant is interesting. That another car just like hers was behind the hedge covered in a white tarp is also interesting. As was pointed out above, the specifics of the wig buy and the seatbelt make an intentional suicide very unlikely.
