That's hilarious that all he has are the powerless, weak-ass House members to stand by him. Mitch has given the word the his Senate members to steer completely clear.
Mean tweets by the likes of MTG are not going to change the narrative, no matter what. A few of them may be banned from Twitter completely if they do his bidding and declare some red-necked civil war.
I guarantee you that Trump has been on the phone all day trying to get people to save his ass, but people aren't as interested in going to prison for him anymore. Nobody wants to be Mark Meadows.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 9, 2022 10:12 PM |
My knowledge of law enforcement comes almost entirely from TV and movies, but I find it hard to believe that the FBI shows up with a warrant to search the home of a former president and it's treated like an overdue library book that one failed to return. Trump has slipped this noose so many times, it's entirely possible that he'll squeak his way out of this one too, but somehow this feels different. Like he even realizes that this shit is serious and all the bloviating in the world won't make it go away.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 9, 2022 10:12 PM |

Security Experts on Twitter today are starting to lower expectations for a criminal case. Most are saying the DOJ needed to neutralize the threat of classified documents hanging out at Mar-A-Lago. They retrieved the documents and it is mission accomplished. They are probably not that interested in punishing Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 9, 2022 10:24 PM |
they asked Trump to return the documents he didn't and forced them to come get them. Sounds just like him, he is that petty and attention starved. And he probably knows they won't end up charging him for any of it
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 9, 2022 10:28 PM |
Yeah, this isnât some overdue library book situation. They would have never undertaken this type of operation in that case. Garland would have not have signed off on a highly publicized search warrant execution that would put the Department under scrutiny for politicizing law enforcement activities. Heâs a brilliant lawyer who is thinking five steps ahead of everyone else. He wasnât about to OK the first search of the residence of a former president in history over just some unreturned papers. There must be great significance attached to what they wanted. Plus, the magistrate judge who authorized the search had to be convinced that there was probable cause that there was evidence that a crime had been committed.

Trump could clear up a lot of this speculation by releasing the search warrant yet, oddly enough, he hasnât done that.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 9, 2022 10:44 PM |
It was not "highly publicized," R36. The FBI successfully kept it quiet all day until someone tipped off the media and the story broke. The DOJ wasn't broadcasting this. I think R 35 is correct, unfortunately.

They only got an hour, and they knew if they destroyed it the FBI would find the remains.
Whatâs hilarious is that he was in NY supposedly to respond to some FBI or DOJ inquiry. So they knew he wouldnât be there.

As Margaret Talev wisely pointed out at Axios today, just about everything we know about this is coming from Trump. We have heard nothing from the FBI or the DOJ.
It is very possible there was no raid at all, that the FBI had pre-arranged all this and just showed up at the door where the employees showed them to the files and Trump decided it would get him back in the news cycle again to call it a "raid" and rile up the GOP... and take the limelight away from Biden and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Given his long record of lying, it would not surprise me.

The media downplayed that lawsuit so much that I think almost no one remembers he was suing the US government for permission to keep the documents. Fascinating episode of the Daily today where they talk about how:
âąÂ Trump would tear up important documents and literally flush them down the toilet and how staff would have to tape together the ones he only tore up but didn't try and flush
âąÂ They would chase him around like a naughty toddler trying to get him to stop shredding documents
âąÂ Trump did not seem to understand the need to keep confidential documents confidential
âąÂ He would keep classified letters from Kim Jong Il laying around his desk and then show them to visitors like love letters from a hot actress
[bold] âąÂ The FBI's concern seemed to have been that there was poor security at Mar A Lago and that foreign spies could easily get access to classified documents as Trump had done nothing to secure them and in fact would often show them off to guests
âąÂ The assumption is that they were documents that could hurt the US if in the hands of the Iranians or Chinese, not just an early draft of a speech.

r51, the US is a signatory to a UN accord prohibiting the deliberate creation of "stateless" individuals... so, treason or not, the US can't deprive a native-born American of citizenship unless he holds dual citizenship & officially has a country to go to.
That said, the US is also one of the few countries that allows citizens to unilaterally revoke their own citizenship, even if it makes them "stateless". However, you're only allowed to do it while physically outside the US.

All they were concerned about was securing the documents.

Media is having conniptions over this, both right and left. Trump consistently gets what he most wants, complete focus and attention on him. The media insists on covering his actions as if he were just a rogue politician. The man is a sociopath, a walking DSM III. His capacity for destruction and chaos is endless. To top it off, he is sadistic, really enjoys the turmoil he creates, relishes societal damage and the destruction of our democracy. I often think of his face at the table with Mitt Romney when Romney was trying for Secretary of State. Pure evil joy.

The FBIâs raid of Donald Trumpâs Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday enraged the former president and his backers throughout conservative media and the Republican Party. It also provided them with an opportunity to prod their supporters for cash.

It's not all for show, but there isn't much chance that a former president is going to jail. There are a lot of people who really don't want that to happen, for a variety of reasons. Honestly, I can understand it, as the Republicans will spend decades trying to put a Democratic president into prison for something they probably wouldn't even have done. What we're really looking for here is a way to keep Trump from running again, which I believe even the GOP wants at this point.

All the descriptions of how he behaved in the White House give me the impression that he couldn't believe he got away with it (winning the presidency). He spent all his time just showing off and throwing around his power like the impotent, insecure asshole he has always been. His only pleasure in life is sticking it to everyone else in every possible way.

There is a strong parallel between Trump and the GOP Establishment and Hitler and the Junkers (Prussian aristocracy)
Let me start by saying that DL MARY!!!s to the contrary, Trump is not the second coming of Hitler. Once Hitler consolidated power, he had the support of an overwhelming majority of Germans, whereas even when President, Trump's base was limited to around 25%-30% of the population
But, the Junkers thought they could control Hitler. They thought he would stop the Communists and then eventually just do his bidding. They miscalculated how much power Hitler would amass from the common people. Fortunately for us, Hitler was a genius compared to Trump.
The GOP establishment also thought they could control Trump. That he would act "presidential" once he got into office. That he would make sane cabinet choices. That he would quickly grow bored with being president and let Pence, Tillerson and McConnell run the government.
They were wrong.
Trump's base wanted nothing to do with American aristocrats like Tillerson and McConnell. They wanted to remake the GOP is their image and drove out all the socially moderate/fiscally conservative "country club" Republicans.
Trump would not do what the Establishment GOP wanted him to do and rebelled. Then he branded them "RINOs" and tried to drive them out of the party
His candidates are winning primaries because all those Country Club Republicans decided the Trump GOP was the party of White Trash and want nothing to do with it. So that is who is left in the GOP
The good news is that those candidates should be pretty easy to beat. It's a matter of energizing the base like in 2020 and then making sure we have electable candidates on our side too
The GOP will wind up being a minority party with an elderly base.

The one positive of Trump's presidency is that there will be an entire historical discipline devoted to understanding how Trump came to have such a hold on so many people and why, for instance, so many of them readily believe The Big Lie, when few GOP politicians remotely believe it, even if they don't announce that publicly.
The main point of confusion on the latter will be that it was not a particularly close race. Biden won in something close to a landslide and so even if early/remote voting laws had not been in effect, did MAGAts really think several million people who not have voted?

The raid on Mar-a-Lago was based largely on information from an FBI confidential human source, one who was able to identify what classified documents former President Trump was still hiding and even the location of those documents, two senior government officials told Newsweek.
The officials, who have direct knowledge of the FBIâs deliberations and were granted anonymity in order to discuss sensitive matters, said the raid of Donald Trumpâs Florida residence was deliberately timed to occur when the former president was away.

When I politely explain to them (with evidence) that the Republicans are neither of those things, I get the "fuck you" look.
Maybe for my generation it was a love affair with Reagan, a seemingly nice, grandfatherly guy (for those not paying attention). So some just naturally defaulted to Republicans. I've been arguing that the Republicans have been on the hardcore crazy train since GW Bush but it did all start with Ronny Rayguns. From Salon yesterday re the affidavit required for the "raid" (itemizing what was to be searched for) and how Trump has carefully failed to reveal what was being looked for:
"As former federal prosecutor and current defense attorney Ken White noted in a lengthy Twitter thread following the raid, the "feds do not seek search warrants lightly." As White explained, such warrants generally require "probable cause to believe that the specified location has the specified evidence of a specified federal crime." This one, in particular, would have been combed over by multiple high-ranking authorities, including Attorney General Merrick Garland himself. Crucially, while we the public do not know the details of what is almost certainly one of the most careful and detailed warrants imaginable, Trump himself does, because the subject of the search is given the warrant.
"In the lengthy diatribe Trump released Monday night, he failed to mention any of these details. Outside of a vague mention of his "safe," which could very well be a lie like the rest of the statement, Trump didn't utter a single syllable about the specifics of the warrant served on him. He didn't even mention specific allegations to deny them. Instead, his statement was a diarrhea stream of deflections about Watergate and Hillary Clinton, centered around a conspiracy theory that Trump is a victim of "political persecution."
"The strategy isn't subtle. Trump is trying to fill the information vacuum left by the FBI's silence with lies. He wants to fill up his followers' minds with paranoid gibberish, so that by the time actual details come out, the facts cannot penetrate their red hats. "
Does the FBI have to remain silent or is this another instance of us taking the fucking high road to our own detriment?
From what I can see, FBI not fighting this (i.e.: allowing the warrant to be seen) would constitute an unfair exposure and violate his "right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty".
So...in the end, this just furthers the appearance of the Feds hiding information which, in turn, allows the lyin' right to control the narrative.

The wingnuts are now experiencing spontaneous orgasms, with supporters writing, âIf that's not a Q proof then I donât know what is,â calling it âTHE mother of all Q proofs,â and adding that it âmight be the biggest nod theyâve ever given us tbh.â Others claimed that it was âconfirmationâ of the conspiracy theory and that âthey're basically telling usâ that âthereâs a plan at this point.â One QAnon adherent claimed of the song choice, âThatâs not an accident. Team Trump knows exactly what theyâre doing.â

R247:. From the articleAccording to a Media Matters review using both Googleâs voice assistant and Appleâs Shazam app, the music in Trumpâs video is a song titled Wwg1wga, produced in 2020 by an artist using the name âRichard Feelgoodâ on Spotify. The acronym âwwg1wgaâ is a common shorthand in the QAnon community for the slogan âWhere we go one, we go all.â Discussion of a supposedly imminent âstormâ is also important in QAnon lore, referring to a prophesied event where Trumpâs perceived enemies â who are also supposedly part of a global satanic cabal of pedophiles â would be arrested and possibly executed. The phrase âthe best is yet to come,â which was also featured in the video, is another popular refrain in the QAnon community. The Spotify album featuring Wwg1wga lists other songs whose titles also seem to be about QAnon, including Q Send Me and I Am Q.
Sounds very Jonestownish. White night. ,

WSJ again:
Mondayâs search came after weeks of internal deliberation among senior Justice Department and FBI officials and marked an escalation of their investigation into Mr. Trumpâs handling of classified material.
FBI officials showed up with instructions to keep the search as unobtrusive as possible, with agents dressed in plainclothes and told not to take any weapons,. The Secret Service was notified and then Mr. Trumpâs lawyers. On site, the FBI asked for several things, including a diagram of the sprawling building and that surveillance cameras be turned off, citing officer safety.
Dressed in T-shirts and cargo pants, the agents targeted three roomsâa bedroom, an office and a storage room. The agents went undetected for most of the day until a Florida political blogger tweeted about it and Mr. Trump issued a statement saying his home was âunder siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.â
At the end of the day, they hauled away roughly 10 more boxes of material, some of the people said. The seized documents remain with the FBIâs Miami field office.

I do sometimes appreciate the Trumpistas like r304 for just laying out what the cult is really saying: never, ever, never, ever punish Trump for anything he does or ever has done. That really is a fundamental tenet of the cult, and it is useful for them to lay it out so bluntly sometimes. Some of us do need a reminder what the cult is all about: Trump is perfect, Trump is beyond all criticism, Trump is beyond all law and all punishment, no matter what.
More disturbingly, that is the position of almost every Republican in Congress, in every legislature, and in every governor's mansion. That is what is truly dangerous here. I really do hope everyone gets that and votes accordingly in November.

You have to always worry about severe nut jobs, but most of them will never risk getting arrested. This is a major loss for Republicans and they are powerless to undo Trumpâs crimes. R332, Newsweek is presenting it as the raid was a âspectacular backfireâ because the Republicans and Trump made a big deal about the raid happening when Trump was gone, and supposedly they were trying to be discreet and not let Trump grandstand in front of Mar a Lago while they were searching. Thatâs slanted coverage.
In reality, thereâs no way Trump and the Republicans wouldnât make a big deal out of it for political reasons no matter how they did it. Thereâs no way they could have done it so he wouldnât call the press and complain. Which is stupid if you think about it, because if he didnât tell, weâd probably have no idea. And that would give him some breathing room to decide whatâs next.
Instead, Trump and his pals are calling for civil war. Some of them are even suggesting assassination of the judge who signed the search warrant. Thatâs a terrorist threat, and they should be in jail.
The only âfailureâ here is if theyâd searched it while Trump was there, he probably would have been taken into custody while they searched, because he probably would have tried to interfere. But he also would have probably tried to get his MAGAt friends and Florida Man supporters to attack the Secret Service, and those hard core MAGATs are probably all armed with assault weapons and crazy, so I donât know what else they could have done. The Secret Service probably would have been in a lot more danger if he was there.
If someone had managed to get a tweet off at his request, there could have been a 1/6 style riot there and they probably would have tried to attack the Secret Service and take the boxes back or destroy them. Jared, Ivanka and Melania arenât stupid enough to try to get in the way of the Secret Service themselves, but his worshippers are. They would have stood back and let the rabble do it while claiming innocence. Mar a Lago is like Mecca to some of these people, theyâre always around. And those are the biggest extremists.
They will do anything if âtheir Presidentâ says so, look at the testimony of those people during the investigation. They all claim they went because he asked and thought they were protecting democracy by attacking the government. It could have been a lot worse.
by Anonymous | reply 342 | August 11, 2022 12:58 PM |
No one cares what Newsweek says
It is not the respected magazine of your Eldergay youth, but a pay-for-play rag owned by a company that basically bought the name, and no one pays much attention to outside of Datalounge.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | August 11, 2022 1:05 PM |
Newsweek is now a right-wing rag. It was bought out a while ago and the new owners use it for right-wing propaganda. It's no wonder that they're saying the "raid was a bust" when we don't have any idea if it was a bust or not.
Since those documents are surely items the Jan 6th Committee would like to see, I would guess it's not a "bust" at all.

r342, you keep referring to the "Secret Service". They do not execute the search warrant. FBI agents do.
I've been physically present, in a home, when FBI agents were executing a search warrant.
It is a breathtaking, scary, awe-inducing, and, yes, impressive sight.
They are armed. They are coordinated. The choreography and the directness of the agents and the command of the Supervising Captain leave you no doubt that you better not even think of moving or interfering.
It was very obvious to me that they rehearse and practice executing search warrants.
And there are only 3 words that matter if you are present: Obey the Commands.
I find it highly doubtful that even if Trump were there along with some of his henchmen that they would have tried any shit.
And the Secret Service already know they're being ultra-scrutinized after the missing Jan 6th texts.
They wouldn't have interfered on behalf of Trump in that situation and neither would his goons.
But it was for the best that they knew Trump was not going to be there. Why not take that factor off the table?
Trump himself probably is knows it was good he wasn't there. It gives him more fodder for his nonsense that his moronic followers will lap up like the shit-eaters they are.

The same guy, that, during his presidential campaign could pop off his mouth from the safe remove of a podium and behind a phalanx of Secret Service personnel?
The same guy who was so insecure that he, to group of children -the Boy Scouts of America- salved his political and personal insecurities and that was AFTER he uttered false oath of office and actually was the President?

Today's WSJ Editorial, titled "A Republican Midterm Election Victory Isnât Assured" contains lines like:
The actual reason Mr. Trump lost Wisconsin in 2020 was that thousands of Republicans didnât vote for him. Mr. Michels has a substantial record as a businessman, and he is offering a reform agenda on schools and the economy. But if Democratic Gov. Tony Evers can turn the race into a rehashing of Mr. Trumpâs grievances, GOP swing voters might stay swung.
and
Another Wisconsin warning was the narrow win by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos. Mr. Trump phoned Mr. Vos last month to demand 2020 decertification. Mr. Vos said no. Mr. Trump called him names and backed a primary challenger, Adam Steen, who told a reporter heâd âdefinitely outlaw contraception.â Mr. Vosâs survival is a dose of sanity, but it was a 260-vote margin.

Man suspected of trying to breach the F.B.I.âs Cincinnati office may have Jan. 6 ties.
Investigators are looking into whether the man who tried to breach the F.B.I.âs field office in Cincinnati on Thursday had ties to extremist groups, including one that participated in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the matter.
The suspect, identified by the officials as Ricky Shiffer, 42, seems to have appeared in a video posted on Facebook on Jan. 5, 2021, showing him attending a pro-Trump rally at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington the night before the Capitol was stormed.
In May, a Twitter user named Ricky Shiffer replied to a photograph of rioters scaling the walls of the Capitol on Jan. 6 with a message that claimed he was present at the building and seemed to place the blame for the attack on people other than supporters of former President Donald J. Trump.
âI was there,â the message read. âWe watched as your goons did that.â
Mr. Shiffer was not charged with any crimes in connection with the Jan. 6 attack.
In another Twitter post, the same user wrote about the far-right nationalist group the Proud Boys.
âSave ammunition, get in touch with the Proud Boys and learn how they did it in the Revolutionary War, because submitting to tyranny while lawfully protesting was never the American way,â the message read.
A representative for the F.B.I. declined to comment.

[bold] Temple Beth David has canceled its Beach Shabbat this week under a deluge of antisemitic threats about Bruce Reinhart, the judge who signed the Mar-a-Lago search warrant and sits on the synagogue's board. [/bold]
Judge Bruce Reinhart, a former prosecutor who had previously been criticized for representing former employees of Jeffrey Epstein related to his sex-trafficking scandal, appears to be on the board of a South Florida synagogue. Trump loyalists eager to question the legitimacy of the FBI raid seized upon that detail.
What began with Lenny Dykstra, a retired New York Mets legend, questioning the nature of the Conservative synagogueâs Judaism, spilled over onto right-wing social media platforms and message boards, where users published the judgeâs name, address and personal information. Threats have been directed at Reinhartâs children and supposed family members as well.
On Thursday, a synagogue member told the Forward that the synagogueâs beachside Shabbat service had been canceled âbecause of the social media hate.â
One user on 4chan, an online message board known for racist activity, wrote: âAbout that Judge that signed the search warrantâŠBruce Reinhart once quit his job as a U.S. Attorney to work for Jeffrey Epstein.â Another responded writing, âThat is a k***. And a pedophile ⊠He should be tried for treason and executed.â
âI see a rope around his neck,â wrote a user on the separate pro-Trump message board formerly called TheDonald, according to Vice News.
Reinhart was sworn in as a magistrate judge for the Southern District of Florida in 2018 after a decade in private practice. He had previously been a prosecutor at the U.S. Attorneyâs office for the Southern District of Florida. A Bruce Reinhart is listed on the current board of trustees on the website of Temple Beth David, a synagogue in Palm Beach Gardens.
The synagogue did not immediately respond to inquiries on Tuesday afternoon.
Two additional warrants were assigned to Reinhart and entered into the court system on Monday, according to the Miami Herald, but remained sealed as of Tuesday afternoon.
Dykstra, a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star with the Mets and Phillies who was raised Christian, has stayed in the headlines since his retirement in 1996. The New York Post reported in 2018 â months after he was arrested on charges of threatening an Uber driver â that Dykstra was attending weekly Torah study with Rabbi Shmuel Metzger, who is affiliated with the Chabad movement. (Charges stemming from the Uber incident were dropped in 2019.)
âI hope you all werenât expecting that the synagogue where go-ahead-and-raid-Trump Judge #BruceReinhart is on the board of trustees is one where the congregation keeps kosher, observes the sabbath, etc. You can bet theyâre into âsocial justiceâ of course!â Dykstra tweeted Tuesday to his nearly 87,000 followers.
He also did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but many on Twitter swiftly denounced his post.
âThis is dangerous and should be reported,â one reply read.
âWow. So youâre an antisemite. Somehow Iâm not surprised,â wrote another.
Reinhart, who donated $1,000 to Barack Obamaâs first presidential campaign in 2008 and $500 to Jeb Bushâs bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, has had his own history of controversy. His representation of people connected to Epstein and the fact that he took them on the day after leaving the U.S. Attorneyâs office in 2008 raised eyebrows at the time, and again after he was sworn in as a judge four years ago.
The Miami Herald reported in November 2019 that Epstein hired Reinhart in 2008 to represent several of his former employees in cases related to Epsteinâs sex-trafficking enterprise.
[...]
After news of the Mar-a-Lago raid broke Monday night, a popular Twitter account that describes itself as âAlt-Centerâ expressed shock to its approximately 250,000 followers that Reinhart had approved the search, asking: âTHIS BRUCE REINHART???â

Jared Kushner Now Under Congressional Investigation for Landing Sketchy Saudi Investment (june 2 2022)
A $2 billion investment by a Saudi Arabian wealth fund in Jared Kushnerâs private equity firm is the subject of an investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, according to a letter the committee sent to former President Trumpâs son-in-law and White House adviser. The New York Times reported the investigation on Thursday.
In a letter requesting documents, committee chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) writes to Kushner that the government wants to know âwhether your personal financial interests improperly influenced U.S. foreign policyâ during the Trump administration. The letter requests that Kushner turn over any communications he had with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who controls the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF).
âYour close relationship with Crown Prince bin Salman, your pro-Saudi positions during the Trump Administration, and PIFâs decision to fund the lionâs share of your new business venture â only six months after the end of your White House tenure â create the appearance of a quid pro quo for your foreign policy work during the Trump Administration,â the letter states.
The substantial Saudi investment into Affinity Partners, Kushnerâs firm, has led to concerns from ethics experts. The firmâs parent company was incorporated on the first full day after Trump left office, Maloney notes in the letter. She also cites reports indicating that âPIFâs investment committee expressed significant concerns about the âinexperience of the Affinity Fund managementâ and about your own limited experience in private equity.â
The Times reported last month that in the final weeks of the Trump administration, Kushner and former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin sought Middle East funding for what seemed to be the Abraham Fund, a result of a 2020 peace agreement between the U.S., Israel and the UAE. However, according to the report, the money they raised ended up going to their own firms.
A spokesperson for Kushner offered a statement to the Times in response to the House committeeâs activities. âWhile achieving six peace deals in the Middle East, Mr. Kushner fully abided by all legal and ethical guidelines both during and after his government service,â it said. âHe is proud to be among many private sector stakeholders advancing connectivity between Americans, Israelis and Arabs to encourage continued regional progress.â
The committee has given Kushner two weeks to respond to its requests.

As far as this latest development, the repigs will be all over the news about fake news, nuclear codes never work anyway, blah blah blah. Trump, McCarthy, and other GQP politicians attacking the F-B-I and DoJ will not profit them for long. Pissing off these agencies may result in these government agencies going after the MAGA corruption with much more zeal now. Linsey Graham with her âyeah, yeah, yeahâ at Foxâs Jesse Watters suggestion that the F - B - I was at Mar-a-Lago to plant evidence, should face consequences from her Senate colleagues. Trump is never going to say anything despite that fact that a good portion of his inner circle is Jewish, and--something I'd noted on here before and he himself confirmed in an article in NY Magazine this week--people often assumed he was Jewish back in the 80s and 90s.

I view the media is preoccupied with Lindsey Graham. and it isnât just Fox. Dana Bash just had Graham on the CNN morning show: The State of the Union. He was not asked one question about the Georgia meddling. Fox has Graham on sometimes twice a day. There are 99 other Senators. Kassie Hunt, Jake Sherman, and all the rest, need to ask Graham about his actions, not just reporting his quipped opinions. Fox hosted a series of Graham - Bernie Sanders debates. That had an agenda.

FBI seized 11 sets of classified documents in Trump Mar-a-Lago raid: report
The Wall Street Journal, citing a leaked inventory of what was taken from the Palm Beach resort, reported that agents removed around 20 boxes as well as a handwritten note, binders of photos, and Trumpâs clemency grant to his longtime adviser Roger Stone.
Among the classified materials collected were four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents and three of confidential documents, according to the three-page list. Top Secret is the highest level of classification the US government can give information, followed by Secret and Confidential.
One set was marked âVarious classified/TS/SCI documents,â which is the abbreviation for âtop secret/sensitive compartmented information,â while the list also included a reference to information related to the âPresident of France.â see also Former President Donald Trumpâs attorney, Christina Bobb, claims he and his family witnessed the FBI raid from CCTV footage. Trump and his family watched FBI raid on security footage, lawyer claims
The inventory did not include any more detail about what each document contained, according to the Journal.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | August 12, 2022 6:43 PM |
Fox News, which obtained a copy of the search warrant, reported that the document authorized the FBI to seize âall physical documents and records constituting evidence, contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessedâ in violation of federal law.
The warrant also gave agents the go-ahead to collect any presidential records they found that were created while Trump was in office.
âThe locations to be searched include the â45 Office,â all storage rooms, and all other rooms or areas within the premises used or available to be used by FPOTUS and his staff and in which boxes or documents could be stored, including all structures or buildings on the estate,â the warrant stated.
Agents were not authorized to search areas occupied by Mar-a-Lago members or those locations not used by Trump and his staff, according to the warrant.
A federal magistrate judge had given the 45th presidentâs legal team until 3 p.m. Friday to respond to a DOJ motion to unseal the inventory, known as a âproperty receipt,â as well as the search warrant itself.
Trump revealed he had no issue with the documents being released, writing on his Truth Social platform early Friday that he is âENCOURAGING the immediate release.â
The former presidentâs lawyers have argued he used his power to declassify the now-seized material before he left the White House, an insistence Trump echoed in response to the leak.
âNumber one, it was all declassified,â he wrote on Truth Social. âNumber two, they didnât need to âseizeâ anything. They could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago. It was in secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request. They could have had it anytime they wantedâand that includes LONG ago. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK. The bigger problem is, what are they going to do with the 33 million pages of documents, many of which are classified, that President Obama took to Chicago?â
The Washington Post reported late Thursday that the feds were looking for âclassified documents relating to nuclear weaponsâ during the raid, though it is not clear whether such documents were recovered by the bureau.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | August 12, 2022 6:44 PM |
Trump lashed out early Friday, claiming the report about the nuclear weapons papers was a âHoax.â
âNuclear weapons issue is a Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was a Hoax, two Impeachments were a Hoax, the Mueller investigation was a Hoax, and much more,â Trump raged on his Truth Social platform.
âSame sleazy people involved. Why wouldnât the FBI allow the inspection of areas at Mar-a-Lago with our lawyerâs [sic], or others, present. Made them wait outside in the heat, wouldnât let them get even close â said âABSOLUTELY NOTâ.â
Trump then suggested federal agents might have planted information while executing the search warrant.
âPlanting information anyone? Reminds me of a Christofer [sic] Steele Dossier!â the former president said.
The DOJ had filed the motion to unseal the documents as Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday he âpersonally approvedâ the search warrant.
âThe Department does not take such a decision lightly,â Garland told reporters. âWhere possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.â
