Burn units are tragic places. Burn patients are amongst the most challenging to treat. Not only is the pain level off the charts, there are huge risks to other organ systems. Many do not realize that our skin is our largest organ and plays a seriously significant role (as protective barrier, source of fluid retention/bodily fluid stabilization, immunologic functions and excretory functions, etc.)

This does not even take into consideration the scarring, contracture, and mental anguish associated with disfigurement.

My heart goes out to anyone: human or animal who is burned. It is excruciating.

It will take a minimum of 10 years for her to recover from this accident successfully, including the childhood trauma she endured.

Childhood trauma can be overcome with 2-4 years of consistent therapy, depending on the psychologist, patient, and treatment modality used. But physical burn trauma is just another whole ball of wax.

Had she genuinely attempted to recover from her childhood trauma early on, she never would have been in this situation.

Even if she had struggled here and there and had perhaps been re-triggered regarding her childhood trauma once again, much later in life, she still would have most likely had made it out OK, because years of therapy and recovery don’t just wash away and disappear due to relapse or emotional triggers.

A person with many years in the recovery process who ends up re-triggered, will usually bounce back fairly quickly within 12-18 months, as long as they are able to remove themselves from situations and individuals that:/who are abusive and detrimental to the person who has put in years of therapy and sobriety.

But if an individual never fully committed an amount of years to overcome childhood trauma, while remaining sober, they’re unfortunately, just living an adult life based upon continued, consecutive triggers, left and right, because that truly is all they know and have no other perception of their environment and reality, other than the patterns established during early childhood, and the trauma they endured, thereof.

This is an important distinction, because MANY people whom we pontificate upon, have never been able to supersede childhood trauma, because they never sought help early on, and continue to actively resist it

What I would say to anyone, is: just seek help anywhere and in any way possible, as soon as possible when being exposed to toxic people in toxic family dynamics.

The first step, is doing everything & anything possible, to get away from harmful individuals. After that is accomplished, one MUST abstain from drugs and alcohol for any treatment modality to work.

Relapse is pretty customary and usual, because it’s a coping mechanism for those who have suffered from mild to extreme childhood trauma. However, one has to keep on trying to remain sober, because you will not be able to fully recover, without being abstinent from mind altering substances.

And yes. I know that doctors are now using hallucinogens to treat patients who have severe depression due to childhood trauma or other reasons that may organically cause depression.

I say go for it!

But ONLY under a doctor’s care, ALONG with addiction recovery modalities and a VERY strong support system.

This is not her fault.

If the story is accurate regarding her sexual child abuse and physical abuse, then please understand she barely stood a chance, and it’s a miracle she made it this far.

My question about a legal case involving known diagnosis like bipolar--is the diagnosis itself some kind of "get-out-of-jail-free" card? It's one thing when a person is acting out from their illness due to lack of diagnosis or access to treatment/meds. But Anne Heche has had plenty of health resources, and if her actions in the accident are found to have stemmed from her illness, it's plausible that this would have been due to her own non-compliance with treatment. Does she really have no legal liability in that case?

I ask this because I know a few people with Bipolar I diagnoses (and even a couple diagnosed with schizophrenia) and a history of mood episodes who--precisely because of those episodes--take their medical treatment and their prescribed medications very, very seriously. It's not like, "Oh, I'm Bipolar so you can't catch me."

The doorcam that filmed her speeding past moments before the crash (which can be heard on the recording) was taken from 1353 Preston Way, which is a side street at right angles to Walgrove, directly in line with t looks like a suicide te house she hit.

It could be a suicide attempt because she drove straight into the house at top speed. Actually, a front hedge is all that she would have seen as she approached in her drunken mania.

Looking over the thread, it's obvious a lot of posters don't realize she crashed twice. First, with minimal damage, into the garage of a local house. She was helped out and was photographed standing but refused pleas to go to the hospital. She got back into her car, where she was photographed with a liquor bottle next to her, and a minute or so later, she plowed all the way into a nearby house which resulted in the fire.

I said earlier that I saw some of the Dahlmer movie.

In one of the photos released of the interior of her car post-fire, you can see a reusable turquoise water bottle shoved up on the dashboard against the broken glass of the windshield. There's also an Arrowhead water bottle against the door panel of the passenger's seat. I didn't see the vodka bottle that was visible in her center console in the photo of her prior to the crash, though it likely could have exploded if there was still vodka in it. I have to wonder if she had liquor in the reusable bottle as well, though it appears to be fully intact.

I find myself wondering how she got along with Johnny Depp when they made Donnie Brasco.
