How come we rarely get into Hall & Oates?

Let’s set aside the homo-fantasy l shit, and get into their music.

Weren’t they just amazing as a pop duo?

I ❤️ Hall & Oates, and consider them as a band that are amongst one of the greats in their time and genre.

I’ve always wondered what they meant by “I can’t go for that”, and I believe it stumped Meatloaf, as well.

What was “THAT”?

Someone here’s gotta know.

They meant anal

Heard 'Rich Girl' in the supermarket tonight. It still rocks though.

I liked their first album, Abandoned Luncheonette, originally released in 1973, and then re-released in 1976 when "She's Gone" became a hit single. That's when I bought it, an album with all good songs.

There have been a couple of relatively recent longish threads about them.

Another.

I thought that was what Meat Loaf meant in "I Would Do Anything for Love -- But I Won't Do THAT"

by Anonymousreply 6August 5, 2022 4:22 AM

He meant fisting, R6. Fisting.

by Anonymousreply 7August 5, 2022 4:23 AM

A truly great duo whose music has stood the test of time. I Can't Go For That is one of the rare songs by a white act to hit number one on the R&B charts.

There’s a Hall and Oates emergency hotline

They were junior high and high school for me.

[quote] set aside the homo-fantasy l shit, and get into their music.

There's a comma missing here. And three verbs in the one sentence.

by Anonymousreply 11August 5, 2022 4:39 AM

I liked Hall and Oates. Daryl Hall had such a great voice. They made some great hits.

by Anonymousreply 12August 5, 2022 5:05 AM

Can't go for giving up their soul. 🎶

by Anonymousreply 13August 5, 2022 5:57 AM

I always like Sara Smile. They are talented but just not taste overall, but I do recognize their abilities.

by Anonymousreply 14August 5, 2022 7:08 AM

I get the impression that the pretty one was just there for decoration; he just hummed away in the background.

Whereas the homely white dude did all the wailing.

by Anonymousreply 15August 5, 2022 7:26 AM

Private Eyes - bah bah - They’re watching you! …… I loved “Your kiss is on my list.” These songs remind me of the new freedom of getting my Driver’s License and driving at night with the windows down. Nothing but possibilities ahead ….

by Anonymousreply 16August 5, 2022 10:09 AM

You think Oates is the "pretty one???"

by Anonymousreply 17August 5, 2022 10:06 PM

They beat the Everly Brothers for having the most hit singles and gold records as a male duet.

by Anonymousreply 18August 5, 2022 11:08 PM

R17 I don't know which is which.

by Anonymousreply 19August 5, 2022 11:37 PM

Andy Cohen just bought the penthouse at 299 West 12th, where Hall and Oates lived when the rumors began.

by Anonymousreply 20August 5, 2022 11:52 PM

What rumors, [R20]?

[quote]I’ve always wondered what they meant by “I can’t go for that”, and I believe it stumped Meatloaf, as well.

{quote]What was “THAT”?

The last lines in Meatloaf's "I would do anything for you" explain THAT was cheating in a relationship.

by Anonymousreply 22August 6, 2022 4:48 AM

Good songs but played into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2022 4:57 AM

r21, Rumors they were gay. Daryl soon moved to 45 Christopher Street.

by Anonymousreply 24August 7, 2022 11:24 AM

Total middle school memories, especially of Maneater.

by Anonymousreply 25August 8, 2022 4:33 AM

Adult Education is a damn good song.

by Anonymousreply 26August 8, 2022 11:44 AM

Darryl Hall came out as bisexual during their hey-day. But John Oates identifies as straight. Which surprised me because John pings off the charts.

by Anonymousreply 27August 8, 2022 11:54 AM

Was really into them in Jr high and 9th grade. Saw them live for the first time in 2019; Daryl is a great vocalist and doest get enough respect.

by Anonymousreply 28August 8, 2022 11:57 AM

The chord change at 3:50 , and all the way to the end of the song - sublime pop soul!

They have both gone on, separately and together. If you missed Darrl's House, he perfomned a lot of great music with other artists participating. This is a great renditon of Can't Go for That. It doesn't get old. The blond keyboardist is cute, by the way.

Love them. “Rich Girl” is my favorite.

by Anonymousreply 32August 8, 2022 12:40 PM

It's hard to pick a favorite for me, but this one is up at the top:

She's Gone is fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 34August 8, 2022 12:46 PM

You almost never hear it played - one of my very favorites. - “If You Had Everything your Heart Desired, Would You Still Want More?”

by Anonymousreply 35August 8, 2022 5:14 PM

"You make my dreams" still gets me bopping!

Miss Warwick and Toni Tennille did a fabulous cover of She's Gone (He's Gone).

OP, I'll explain it to you clear as day, BUT FIRST, you have to explain this to ME: "Baby hair..."

by Anonymousreply 39August 8, 2022 11:40 PM

Because they died of the gay disease. We have respect.

by Anonymousreply 40August 8, 2022 11:44 PM

I'm unimpressed by Hall's singing. He was no Bobby Caldwell.

by Anonymousreply 41August 24, 2022 4:07 PM

Because they are f_ _gs!

by Anonymousreply 42August 24, 2022 4:12 PM

They would *not* stand idly by, while those California vagina-sailors Loggins & McDonald stabbed the American airwaves in the balls with their shitty "music"!

r46 She ran calling Wild Fiiiiire.

I never shit a homo-fantasy about them. I'm not into blonds and the little one reminds me of Luis Guzmán. As for "just amazing," Abandoned Luncheonette is the only album of theirs I really liked.
