So, an ordinary day r1?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 3, 2022 8:44 PM |
Will they have an increased budget now. It looks like Peacock spent $1.99 on Beyond Salem, not the $1.69 NBC/Sony spend on DAYS.

This thread was first, R5.
I don't watch soaps but it's interesting to see more and more shows leaving the networks for streaming services. What's the age range for viewers of this show? Aside from DLers I'm picturing older women who watch the Hallmark Movie Channel & ION TV. Does that demographic have Peacock?

A bump in the ass or course! An Ass Bump!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 3, 2022 10:37 PM |
Wasn’t this renewed for two more years last year?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 3, 2022 10:54 PM |
Doing this so abruptly will only hurt the show.
Should have been plenty of advance notice so Days could prepare a big, huge gigantic cliffhanger to end the NBC run and entire views over to Peacock to see how it all plays out.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 3, 2022 10:56 PM |
Days was about to go through a big overhaul with the cast, I thought.
They did that stunt a year or so ago where they terminated every actor’s contract and resigned them, the head writer was bitching about it recently.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 3, 2022 11:31 PM |
[quote]Doing this so abruptly will only hurt the show.
And doesn’t bode well for NBC/Peacock’s faith in it. I imagine NBC regrets the 2-year renewal and wants it off the air, so they’re shunting it off to Peacock to die.

So essentially, cancelled.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 4, 2022 12:01 AM |
Days’ current contract runs through September 2023. I’ve seen reports that they’re now filming February episodes, so it’ll be a long while before a mass cast exodus is apparent onscreen.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 4, 2022 12:02 AM |
This is good news. I'd be worried if I was General Hospital. Dr. Cunt Ashton and TJ Homie are ready for a second hour of their GMA shitshow.

I'm sure General Hospital will be shunted off to Hulu in the not-too-distant future.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 4, 2022 1:13 PM |
R31 You better believe it (they'll hold on to it for awhile, then it'll be off of ABC once they find something better). Y&R/B&B will be the last two standing.

I have never known a gay man who watches soaps. I had no idea that soaps were even still on tv.

Soaps aside, NBC is a dumpster fire. 3 hour blocks of Chicago this and that, 3 hour blocks of L&O, 5 hours of Today. It's already a basic cable channel. Hard to believe it was ever Must See TV.

Essentially, he says support Days by subscribing to Peacock around the time of the move so the show can continue on the streaming platform, since it won't be coming back to network tv after this move.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 8, 2022 1:18 AM |
Wait, so every episode of Days will be available on the 'cock? I can watch the John/Kristen/Marlena/Susan story again?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 8, 2022 2:34 AM |
R52 As discussed on main Days thread, it's not likely all episodes will be available all at once since there are many issues to deal with first. I think the goal is to eventually make older seasons available but that probably depends on the demand and show of support from fans.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 8, 2022 2:56 AM |
I want to see The Salem Strangler episodes. My aunt was always talking about that.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 8, 2022 3:28 AM |
Peacock will NOT have every episode available. Don’t fall for it, people. Think logically.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 8, 2022 5:28 AM |
R55 It would be bad business to have them available all at once anyways.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 8, 2022 5:37 AM |
There should be more definitive details closer to the end of the month when they have to advertise Days' transition to Peacock.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 8, 2022 5:39 AM |
Will Chambo and his Mexican-looking husband still be on?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 8, 2022 5:45 AM |
R58 Chambo is on recurring and visits every so often. The husband has been recast with a less Mexican looking actor and is back on the show regularly without Chambo.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 8, 2022 6:27 AM |
Are Will Whoreton and Sonny still married on the show?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 8, 2022 6:41 AM |
R55 Bell Productions are uploading six Bold and the Beautiful classic episodes live on YT each day (simultaneously covering seasons 5, 24, and 32).
That equals about seven seasons per year. These appear to be unaltered from the original broadcast (they boil down to about 17 minutes each without commercials) and are getting about 20k viewers per episode.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 8, 2022 6:45 AM |
Dumbo Chambo is too busy playing video games. The mind is an awful thing to waste.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 8, 2022 6:53 AM |
The move to PeaCOCK will be a disaster. They won’t get anywhere near the audience they get on NBC. And that’s not much since Days is the lowest rated soap as it is. Cancellation looms near.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 8, 2022 6:56 AM |
This crap soap is still on the air?!

by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 8, 2022 12:31 PM |
The mention of Peacock showing all the old episodes comes from a Fox article that got the press release wrong. Jason47 confirmed that no one has said this.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 8, 2022 12:33 PM |
Queen Jason47 must be beside himself over the cancellation of Days. Well not officially cancelled, just moving over to Peacock for a short time before the official cancellation. What will Queen Jason47 do with his time after formal cancellation?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 8, 2022 2:11 PM |
Why are former soap viewers like R72 commenting about current soaps? WFH is ruining this country.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 8, 2022 4:34 PM |
Poor R77. What a hard road this world must be for you! Of course, no one should be allowed to comment if they watch fewer than three eps a week!
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 8, 2022 4:36 PM |
While I doubt that all episodes from the beginning will stream (would be cool though), I have seen that mentioned several places, including Scott McKinsey’s post asking viewers to give Peacock a chance.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 8, 2022 10:13 PM |
McKinsey’s just begging to keep his job. THIS WILL FAIL ON PEACOCK! No streamer has ever shown 250 episodes per year of scripted drama. Streaming is for movies or short, limited seasons. Not a daily drama. This has failure written all over it from the get go. The best they can hope for is more 5 episode Beyond Salem like arcs after Peacock officially cancels Days.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 8, 2022 10:29 PM |
Essentially what director Scott McKinsey was saying was that:
NBC was guaranteed to cancel Days in Sept. 2023, when the current contract expires.
By moving Days to Peacock, the show stands a chance of surviving beyond that Sept. 2023 date. The chance will depend on the number of viewers Days gets once its on Peacock exclusively and how many people start subscribing to Peacock as a results of Days being there.
I'm certainly going to support Days by ponying up $5 a month, at least for the first few months. That act may help save the entire soap genre.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 8, 2022 10:36 PM |
Does anyone know where one can stream episodes of The Secret Storm?
by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 8, 2022 10:36 PM |
I will not pay to watch my “stories”.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 8, 2022 10:43 PM |
It's been how many days now and still no official word from Corday or Carlivati, or anyone else from the show? McKinsey's post was not an official response. That does make me think they were caught unaware, at least by the timing.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 8, 2022 10:46 PM |
They definitely were caught unaware. Somebody (Corday and Co.) did not read the contract that he bragged about last year. Ole Kenny must’ve been out golfing instead of reading that NBC can dump you onto Peacock at anytime with no notice.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | August 8, 2022 11:07 PM |
PervSudz is up in arms about Ron C. and Peacock!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 8, 2022 11:21 PM |
r85 I agree. They definitely would have made a comment by now if they'd had any advance warming. Especially as chatty as Ron is about these type of things.
It's interesting that Scott McKinsey framed this as a good thing to may keep Days alive beyond next Sept. But as you said, his response is certainly not an official response.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | August 8, 2022 11:29 PM |
Are the pathetic loons at SON still begging people to illegally upload episodes of Days when it goes to Peacock?

by Anonymous | reply 92 | August 9, 2022 1:03 AM |
[quote]I will not pay to watch my “stories”.
Days would be the anchor baby. You sign up to watch Days, but you stay to watch the other shows already streaming on the channel.
If I recall correctly Corday has it down to about $600,000 for 1 week of shows. A 10 episode season of a Peacock Original probably clocks in between 10 and 15 million.
If they can get the show down to 150 original episodes a year with a summer hiatus and holiday breaks, that gets you down to 30 new weeks of programming for about $18 million.
However, the key is for the audience to accept these new approaches, but we know how soap fans are. This would be a great opportunity to reset the entire show.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | August 9, 2022 2:59 AM |
It’s sad they didn’t completely pull the plug on it.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | August 9, 2022 3:23 AM |
I think this move explains why Ben was brought back as Alex so fast & the return of more popular Stefan for Gabi.
I wonder if the Orpheus Squad was also an attempt to have viewers want to pay for the Peacock version.
They waited for the two Peacock limited series to see if the move would work & based off of the ratings they are now going ahead with their gamble.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | August 9, 2022 4:58 AM |
General Hospital is about to become the Lowest Rated Network Soap...Not a good look that ABC is going to put up with. ABC owns GH. They won't bother moving it to Hulu because it won't be worth the cost--rumor says Mumbles makes a million a year. Ain't nobody paying that waste of money at Hulu. GH is toast as soon as ABC sees that DAYS does nothing for the subscription base on Peacock. This is very likely the last GH season. They will announce cancellation in the spring (like they did with AMC and OLTL).
by Anonymous | reply 96 | August 9, 2022 5:13 AM |

As others have said, the older fans aren't going to go for this. Especially with such little notice. It's definitely NBC throwing the franchise under the bus in hopes they can cancel it it 2023. And/or they could merely do x1 or x2 series a year, a la 'Beyond Salem'.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | August 9, 2022 11:21 AM |

If Jennifer Aniston would make ONE Hail Mary cameo on the show her father has been on for 40 years, Peacock would make enough in publicity and one-time subscriptions to keep that show going for years. I've always thought it was odd that she never appeared, especially given it was another NBC show. Maybe that's why I've never liked her.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | August 9, 2022 6:17 PM |
SAD Bromance continues tomorrow.... And Alex meets the Lezzies. I am just watching for these two storylines right now. Poor Zac Tinker just got on contract and the show gets banished to Peacock.

Will the obese Soap Twitter Queens save DAYS on Peacock?
by Anonymous | reply 106 | August 10, 2022 1:32 AM |
I'm guessing characters like Doug, Julie, Maggie and Victor will be phased out with this move. Young up and comers Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn will remain, though.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | August 10, 2022 1:36 AM |
I think anyone, with the exception of RSW, who makes more than a $1000 an episode needs to go. And that includes Doc, John, Patch, Kayla and anyone else whose story began sometime in the 80s. All you need is to get the show down to a tight 15 and an A, B, and C story.
One of the biggest problems with all soap opera is that they're still writing them like it's 1985 and they have all the money in the world. I rarely complain about Days, but the cycling characters in an out gets tired and stymies story.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | August 10, 2022 1:55 AM |
[quote]Young up and comers Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn will remain, though.
Drake’s only been in 13 episodes so far this year (out of 134), tied with Leann Hunley and three behind Susan Hayes, so it would appear TPTB don’t consider him integral to the show. Dee’s been in 36 episodes. Billy Flynn leads the cast with 60 episodes.

[quote]Approximately how much do actors and actresses like Drake, Diedre and Susan Hayes make? How about actors like RSW and Chambo?
I'm going to pull this straight out of my ass. I am not an insider. This is based on nothing except things I've read over the years and just a general feeling. Out of the list you named, Dee clearly makes the most. My guess is she makes about $5000/$6000 an episode. This is probably about a 60% cut from her top salary back during the glory days.
Susan probably makes scale. She enjoys working and the supplemental SAG is a nice benefit at her age.
I suspect that Drake has one of those Suzanne Rogers type contracts and just works as needed for about $2500 per episode. Also, from everything I've read of the over the years there is no one more low maintenance than Drake. He likes the show and the people and just wants something to do. He's loaded so at this point it doesn't matter. And then there is the health insurance.
Chandler makes scale. No way he makes anything more than that.
RSW is the wild card. I'm going to guess $3000. He is the show's young lead. He is a very popular actor. He has lots of behind the scenes support. And from everything that I've seen he is well liked and not a trouble maker.
If I had to guess, the top five earners on Days would be:
1) Dee
2) Jackee
3) RSW
4) Billy Flynn
5) a tossup between Greg Vaughan and Arianne Zucker

R126 = WoW. I hadn't realized Ron hadn't made a comment. RC and FV are both going to be jobless this time next year. DAYS move was a last ditch Pity Move---though I could see Days Beyond continuing.. The writing on GH is too lousy to get any significant boost from the Days--especially since BB is having their best ratings in years. ABC will have the perfect excuse this spring to finally dump Mobster Hospital. wait and see..Daytime Pyramid is going to be a lot cheaper than GH.

R97 - Mumbles is a reference to Maurice Benard who has played a poor-man Michael Corleone for nearly 30 years on GH. He thinks he's Pacino, but talks like he's Brando. GH has a long history of mobsters, but the Corinthos story swallowed the show alive sometime around 2000 and has been leeching the lifeforce from it ever since.
Agreed that ABC will keep GH on a ventilator until it's 60th anniversary this April, and then announce it's pulling life support. Haven't watched it in forever, but I'll tune in to see how it all ends. Just waiting for the news.

Unless they are trying to lure a younger audience, DOOL is going to be done. I can’t see many older people dealing with the streaming and paying for the show on top of it. I got into DOOL briefly like 7-8 years ago. It was good until it wasn’t. I was always an ABC fan, but OLTL was the best of them when it was canceled. GH has been horrendous since Sonny took over the show. I haven’t watched it in ages. I think it’ll be moved also, then quietly canceled. The era of Soaps is slowly coming to an end. Eventually the CBS shows will be gone too.

⏳ DOOL as become so predictably boring that I barely watch it anymore.
How many times have they recycled their old plots over & over & over? Brought the dead back to life? Marriage & divorced? How many times has Jan Spears been pregnant by dumber than a box of rocks Shawn Brady?
And, will newly resurrected Stefan DiMera demand his original heart back from Julie Williams?
And RSW believable as Alex Kiriakis? Talk about bad acting!
It's become just too painful to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 14, 2022 2:23 PM |
DOOL is dead. The younger people aren’t going to stream 250 episodes a year. Younger people stream 6-10 episodes of a season of a show they can binge. Older people don’t understand streaming and how to get Peacock. This really is in effect, a cancellation of DOOL. It’s dead. This will never work on Peacock. DOOL will start off at 5 episodes a week, then drop down to 4, then 3. This WILL fail. Mark my words.

Deidre Hall for years was the highest paid actor on Days. Although she wasn't getting paid anything near in the territory of what EB on Y&R or Susan Lucci on AMC was getting paid. Alison Sweeney is rumored to have surpassed Deidre to become for some time the highest paid actor on Days.
R78 If that happens, the Chabby and Wilson fans would be very angry. Days homophobic Facebook fans would probably fly into a rage. Some of them are still upset that Dena Higley was never allowed to finish her purge of the gays. Which was one of the reasons why she was brought back.
Supposedly years ago someone high up with ABC said that it was a mistake to have cancelled AMC and OLTL and that they didn't want to go through that again with GH.
If Days does end up cancelled maybe FOWBF can finally appear as a recast Morgan on GH as it almost happened. Even though he is actually older than Chad "DOD" Duell. Where would RSW go because the slot for attractive younger male who can take their shirt at the drop of a hat is already filled by Josh Swickard on GH, his friend Michael Mealor also referred to as Jabottom here on Y&R and Tanner Novlan on B&B.

There’s a HUGE difference between doing 5 episodes a year of Beyond Salem and 250 episodes a year of Days. I, for one, won’t watch all the Days episodes on Peacock. Too much hassle and I know I won’t remember to watch it. So many are saying that ‘steaming is where its at these days’. But no streaming service has 250 hours of scripted drama per year. Streaming is used to 8-10 episode seasons, not 250.

Why can't people just be positive instead always so negative. The show is still on the air, albeit, streaming which is really no different than traditional TV these days. This is not AMC and OLTL on Prospect Park. Maybe Days on Peacock will work or maybe it won't. Why not just be happy that we get another season. And if this Peacock season is the final one for the show, it had a good run, but at least give it a chance to succeed and leave the business stuff to NBC and Sony.

There was something comforting about watching the same show every day. At the same time a lot of storylines dragged out way too long. I liked soaps that had romance and normal socially relevant storylines. The outlandish stuff never did it for me, nor did GH becoming The Godfather lite. I think they should’ve tried reinventing the genre and doing something like short, self contained series every few months. I think DOOL is done after Peacock and GH will soon follow. The move is to mitigate the fall out from viewers. They don’t want a repeat of when AMC/OLTL was canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | August 20, 2022 4:11 PM |
Streaming is the way content is being consumed nowadays. Whether DAYS' audience will follow it to streaming (and pay for it) remains to be seen. I doubt it, but I'd be happy to be surprised.
"A new report from market measurement firm Nielsen says that for the first time, TV viewers watched more on streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ than they did on cable TV.
The shift has been predicted by analysts and commentators for years, but it has only now come to fruition. Streaming had previously outpaced over-the-air broadcast TV, but cable was still beating it until July.
In July, streaming accounted for 34.8 percent of audiences' TV viewing. The runner-up was the now-dethroned cable TV, which came up narrowly behind at 34.4 percent. The relatively distant third was broadcast at 21.6 percent."
by Anonymous | reply 161 | August 20, 2022 7:57 PM |
I hate commercials so I get the upgraded tiers on Hulu, Peacock and Paramount +. I will never go back to regular broadcast TV with commercials. I have 5 streaming services and it's still cheaper than cable. And if you must have local news, most local news channels now broadcast their newscasts on their websites. Unless you live in an area with shitty or no internet, there is no excuse for not cutting the cord.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | August 20, 2022 9:00 PM |
[quote] I think they should’ve tried reinventing the genre and doing something like short, self contained series every few months.
Port Charles was a poorly-received spin-off of General Hospital and was in ICU when, in a last ditch effort to save the show, they turned to the supernatural and self-contained story arcs of about 9 weeks each. The show built an audience but ultimately not enough to save it.
I have heard others think modeling American soaps after the very successful Latin American soap model of telenovelas would save the genre. Maybe. Certainly shows like Fargo and American Horror Story have done well with self-contained seasons, but I think therein lays the problem. Those shows run for 4-5 months tops and they're done. Daytime soaps would have never ending yet self-contained arcs and I just don't think there's an audience anymore for that level of commitment. There are for more choices and most people under retirement age are not going to commit to 250 hours a year of encapsulated melodrama. "Oh, this arc is all so and so. I'll come back in 9 weeks." Not good.
Plus the other big issue is the writing. There is no there anymore. No emotional resonance or relatable characters. There is no novelty or freshness as each surviving program just plays round-robin with the same tired set of executives and writers. There just so many times a secret evil twin, surprise bastard kids with an axe to grind, presumed death resurrections, or crime witnesses with amnesia that be rotated.
And say goodbye to viewer loyalty and history if they switched to self-contained stories. The epic sweep, saga-like experience of daytime would be eschewed in favor of fast and hot stories that do end.
Frankly, it wouldn't even be the same genre so what's actually being saved?

My co-worker, who was used to telenovelas, told me that she started watching One Life to Live as a teenager and really liked it until she realized that the it just went on and on with no conclusion, and then she quit watching.
I don't know if that telenovela style format is necessary but they do need to sharpen their focus and tell a solid main story that can be an umbrella story for multiple cast members and then one or two side storylines.
Stop repeating the same tired plots, give us something to get excited about. If you can't do it with storytelling, then gets the guys in little to no clothing.

On August 3, NBCUniversal – the division of U.S. cable company Comcast that owns the NBC network – announced that, for viewers in the United States, Days of Our Lives would move exclusively to its Peacock streaming service – which is not available in Canada in an authorized way – beginning on Monday, September 12, 2022. As a result, DOOL will no longer be available on NBC stations from that point forward.
However, to the best of our knowledge, Canadians watching Days of Our Lives through Global (and NTV) should not be affected, at least for now.

Soaps toyed with the Telenovela format in the 90s with Port Charles and we saw where that ended up. Most soaps adjusted and went to a 13 week story arc plan, which had pluses and minuses. It meant stories weren't dragged out, but it also meant that soaps no longer played every single beat and got every piece of drama out of a story they could before moving on to the next one. It was also around this time that we lost what I call character moments that soaps used to do so well. These moments weren't integral to story, but just showed you little glimpses of the character.

The only reason I continue to watch DAYS at all is because there are still characters on that I enjoyed in the '80s. The stories today suck, the direction is abysmal, the sets are embarrassing ... but it's nice to drop in occasionally and see people that I've "known" for decades. If they can incorporate the oldsters into the telenovela format, that's fine with m.
But I don't anticipate the show lasting long enough to attempt a different approach.

The show is already on daily on Peacock, which is where tons of people already watch it. They also have the past two seasons available to watch on there. Streaming is still evolving. Days may end up producing Beyond Salem type shows instead of a daily show. Who knows? They’re already filmed through February. As someone who briefly worked in daytime, I can understand why they continue to cycle through the same small pool of (often, hack) writers.
It’s hard and complicated to churn out five scripts a week for these shows. In addition to creating compelling stories and spooling them out in an entertaining way, the writers have to manage usage of cast members vis and vis their guarantees and work with a limited number of sets per day. It’s actually more involved than you can imagine. Often, you have actors you don’t currently need (they may be on the back burner after big stories) who are way below their guarantees so you have to figure out how to utilize them. It’s a whole lot.
A new head writer is a huge gamble. Many talented people have come in and been unable to keep up, and they can really mess up a show in the process.

It's possible they may go back into the scripts that have been written but not yet filmed and add a few "Shit" and "Fucks" to the dialogue. Bit again, that won't be until February.

The thing to watch is how ABC reacts to having the lowest rated daytime soap (General Hospital). Daytime Pyramid is likely to get their slot next season.

R241 ZT does have his acting ticks, but I have seen him in other roles where he can project a whole different persona than NuSonny. Overall he's really not given much to work with on Days. The character of Sonny has no interesting development of his own anymore after all these years. All he does now is prop up other people's drama. Oh, Chad is sad. Oh, Alex was horny and now he's in love. NuSonny gets nothing else to do other than react to these developments.

That's true of daytime in general. The #1 show in 18-49 (The Price is Right) has a 0.4 rating in 18-49. Days has a 0.2 rating.
The problem for Days (and other soaps) is that it's more expensive to produce than game shows, talks shows and news shows.

I'm actually kind of surprised that GH hasn't already been experimenting with the same kind of streaming-only spin-off as Days has done with Beyond Salem. After all, they already did "General Hospital: Night Shift" on SOAPnet some 15 years ago and it proved successful. They could even rerun Night Shift 1 and 2 leading into a Season 3 of the limited series.

Days has already proven to be a streaming success. It was the top rated show on NBC.com, which is why they moved it to Peacock to get eyeballs over there. The BS series has been a hit for Peacock and the audience who is already watching on Peacock isn't going anywhere.
If you look at the demographic breakdown of the ratings. There is not that much difference between the shows. Y&R and B&B have big (for the time) household numbers, but you don't sell ads based on household numbers.
NBC can target viewers and set ads based on the individual with Peacock and still bring in the same type of ad revenue.
I do expect there will eventually be changes to the show, which is fine. A tighter cast and fewer episodes a year, again that's fine. The five day/52 week model is as outdated as the 22 episode a season model in primetime.
Either this is going to work or it won't. If it doesn't, we get another year of the show. If it does, great.

Days was moved to PeaCOCK because it can't compete with the ad revenue being brought in by the news-infotainment segment. Last week in Variety:
[quote] Both “GMA3” and “Days of Our Lives” are supported largely by the ad dollars of big pharmaceutical companies hoping to reach older Americans. But the soap opera won about $30.8 million in advertising last year, according to Kantar, a tracker of ad spending, compared with about $43.4 million for “GMA3” — a difference of around 40.9%. In the first quarter of 2022, “Days” generated about $4.2 million, while “GMA3” took in nearly $11.9 million — a massive gap of 183.3%.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | August 31, 2022 11:45 PM |
But do you really think GH, YR, and BB are competing with the ad revenue that a cheap to produce news show is bringing in either? No. I bet The Talk makes more money in ads for CBS than YR and BB.

I'm guessing that Days might be "top rated" at NBC.com on occasion, simply due to the QUANTITY of episodes they put up. Since it puts out 20+ episodes per month that necessarily allows for more total streams of the show to occur. IOW, you might have one unique viewer making 20+ visits and accomplishing 20+ streams.
I remember back in the day when Nielsen would occasionally release its Videocensus numbers for streaming stats. The daytime soaps would look in the "total streams" column, but would lag in the "total unique viewers" column.

R271 ABC had already owned OLTL and AMC outright for a very long time before they were cancelled. Then they licensed them to a third party and had to spend probably more than it would have cost to have kept them in production to clear up the shit they created.
I would say that while hulu hasn't done a GH spinoff like Peacock did with DAYS, GH is known to be one of their better performing shows and has value because it draws viewers to the platform daily, even when abc primetime shows are in reruns.
Though I question how good hulu's ad targeting software really is. In the past I've purchased highly targeted ads for a political campaign through them, GH was one of the shows they pushed at us, and now I don't know if I would again. I shouldn't be getting ads for candidates in other states, nor should I be getting ads in multiple languages.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | September 1, 2022 2:40 AM |
I now pay for the no ads tier because I hate commercials, but before I started doing that I noticed that I was getting lots of mens grooming, PrEP ads and travel ads during Days. It was very impressive how they determined all that stuff. It wasn't like I filled out a survey or anything.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | September 1, 2022 2:47 AM |
GH had two spin-offs on ABC . Neither lasted for long. People end up watching GH on hulu because ABC cuts into it all the time for Trump nonsense or Joe Biden signing a bill or Jan 6th hearings. Cut into Tamron Hall or local news for that. In early COVID days , in Chicago, Gov. LARDASS and his Public Health Team cut into GH everyday at 2:30 pm for three months straight. The Doctor would start in English and then Spanish. They could have waited until Inside Edition and Jeopardy but the voters in assisted living started calling the station.

R279 they had one spinoff on abc "Port Charles" which had a respectable six year run. "Nightshift" was on soap net, not abc. "The Young Marrieds," on abc, was later established as having been related, but it wasn't acknowledged until decades after it went off the air.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | September 1, 2022 3:37 AM |
R278 Yeah, their analytics used to determine advertising are getting better and better. The last time I was at PeaCOCK, I got all kinds of ads that I might actually be interested in. Things like ads for cars, high tech, music, vitamins, men's fashion, Macy's sales, etc. .. In fact, there was one ad for athletic sportswear WITH A REALLY HOT GUY that I caught the tail end of and wanted to see again.
Goodbye ads for fraus and the geriatric set.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | September 1, 2022 3:52 AM |
R282 And that actually helps to attract younger viewers. I tried watching GH one day when I was in a waiting room and the ads were just depressing. We went from ads during soaps trying to sell women floor polish to selling them a new hip when they slip on the floor. Instead of maxi pads now it is portable catheters. I never see those type ads when streaming soaps on hulu or peacock.

I make compilations of such scenes already onto dvds for my "cough cough" viewing pleasure!....
I know you cannot normally record any streaming services (netflix, hulu, etc) because I have tried. Originally I thought it streaming services were just like cable so why not! laugh!.....

If you have a dvd-player/recorder then you can buy/license a software program designed to download videos from streaming services. The program would store the video file on your computer and you should then be able to burn a dvd from that file.
One program that I'm familiar with is StreamingGaGa. They interface over 100 streaming sties, and Peaccock is one of them. I just tested it and had no problem downloading an episode of DAYS. I then copied that video file from my computer to a DVD. Again, I had no problem, and the DVD played perfectly fine.
They currently license their program, and you can buy by month or year, etc. Their current deal is $4.99 per month for 12-months, so about $60/year. You can test it out as they allow you to download three videos to try it out.
This isn't a recommendation, but I believe this is the type of service you need to look for. There are probably quite a few "Video Downloaders" on the market. KeepStreams is another product. (Their prices look comparable.) My only recommendation would be to make sure Peacock is supported and that the copied video can be transferred to a DVD. and that the DVD can be played properly with video and audio in synch.

by Anonymous | reply 336 | September 8, 2022 4:16 AM |
R333 It's not quite the same as AMC and OLTL. ABC owned those shows. They'd already made the decision to cancel the shows and shut production down. And another party (Prospect Park) came in and tried to reinvent the wheel.
But due to Days production schedule, the owners, Corday-Sony, have already produced something like six months of the show for NBC. .. And even though NBC wants to alter it's daytime broadcast schedule right now, they'd be pretty stupid to not do SOMETHING with those 120+ episodes. .. Plus, the current licensing contract is just another six months away. If NBC-Peacock wants to give Days up this coming February, then at that point, they'll have the next 120+ episodes ready to take them to the end of the 2022-23 season, and the current licensing contract will be totally satisfied.

This move to Peacock is completely the end of Days. They won’t even end up showing all the episodes.

I, too, marveled at the beauty of Drake's chest yesterday, and was equally impressed later in the episode when Marlena's cleavage was on full display (and looked great). I can't remember the last time Dee even wore something with an open neck.
So we have gays, lesbians, youngs and olds having sex on Days. Loving it.

was kate and jake the last one?
by Anonymous | reply 344 | September 8, 2022 8:15 PM |
R344... yes, I believe so. In real life there is a 26 age difference between lauren koslow (kate) and brandon barash (jake)....
Unfortunately, Never thought Barash was all that good looking, built or sexy so it kind of didn't live up to the sexy dirty wicked hot of much older horny woman with horny young built handsome stud dynamic...Even better? is a storyline where the much older woman tricks, blackmails, drugs, seduces the stud who fights it but succumbs... Makes it that much hotter dirtier and more of a power trip than a simple may/december relationship that is mutually wanted on both participants.

I watched DOOL for a couple of months back around 1979-80 (summer off from school). I developed a mad crush on Wesley Eure. But also, even though I was about 12 years old, I was convinced that Bill Hayes was an old hammy queen. Was he gay in real? Or was just an extraordinarily effeminate heterosexual? Yes, I know he's been married twice and has five kids. But my goodness... he made Tony Randall look like Mercedes McCambridge.

by Anonymous | reply 364 | September 9, 2022 1:57 PM |
Looks like Days is going out with a whimper on NBC. It was preempted yesterday (at least in Eastern and Central time zones) for the queen's death. It looks like it will be preempted again today as King Charles III is addressing the UK at 6:00 pm GMT/ 1:00 EST.
The good thing is, once it moves to Pea-COCK, there won't be any more preemptions due to "breaking" news coverage.
by Anonymous | reply 365 | September 9, 2022 2:42 PM |

When the new 10th hour of the Today show starts on Monday, their first guests should be Queen Dee and Kiing Rob talking about Days moving online.
Put a big screen monitor behind the two of them and actually show all the grammies out there how to access the site. .. I'd have Rob standing there in his bikini briefs while Dee explains the steps to get on The Cock.

R416 You might want to call your credit card company and ask them if they have a record of the attempt to make the transaction, and if there is some reason it was declined. Without going into detail, this has happened to me twice for online purchases, and they had the answer.
Have you sent an email to StreamGaGa to ask about the issue? Their response (or lack thereof) may provide input as to whether you decide to go with them.
As I said in the original reply, StreamGaGa is just one of many Video Downloader interfaces out there. You just have to find one that includes Peacock in their current program offerings and test things out on your end. With Peacock hosting the Days' episodes for a year, you don't really need to worry about missing something, so if you need to look around for another program and determine if it works on your end, you've got plenty of time. Two others I've heard of, read about, but have no experience with are:
myconverters.com (Peacock is on their front page)
and
keepstreams.com (Peacock is listed under their products tab)

Most NBC stations really lost TWO hours of programming, because the syndicated "Ellen" also left the airwaves. In Los Angeles, KNBC is filling that 3:pm hour with a half-hour of the same ol' repetitive local news, then running the NBC Evening News with Lester Holt (live) from New York at 3:30pm. They'll then repeat Lester's broadcast at 6:30pm, which is when it's always been run. I guess they're copying what KABC has been doing with David Muir for years now. .. And in New York, it looks like WNBC is filling that freed-up hour with old episodes of DATELINE! .. LOOL!

Networks are dead. How many times has ABC Primetime replayed Abbott Elementary. AE is a great show but they have probably replayed some of the episodes at least 4 times.

From millions of viewers to thousands of viewers in the matter of days. What an epic plot twist. The REAL question is how long ABC is going to put up with having the lowest rated network soap opera with Mobster Hospital. You can believe the cancellation ax is looming their way too this spring.

[quote] Network television really doesn’t deserve to survive if they’re going to show nothing but news, talk and game shows.
Broadcast television essentially ended 10 years ago when the nation converted to digital TV. There is no more over the airwaves TV on any significant level. During the last decade the remaining five networks (six if you count PBS) have gradually eroded into irrelevance. The programs people talk about are for the most part airing on cable (also dying quickly) or more and more on streaming channels. NBC, CBS, and ABC are essentially streaming channels now just like Apple, Netflix, and Prime -- but soon to be eclipsed.
I don't think DOOL will survive, but objectively moving soaps to streaming makes a lot more sense than letting them rot to death on the "networks".
by Anonymous | reply 443 | September 13, 2022 12:07 PM |

Other then Executive Producer Albert Alarr, DL icon Jackee Harry, 41 year vet James Reynolds, Julie Williams' grandson Eli, his wife, their twins, bisexual Chanel Dupree, officer Jada Hunter, and the ghost of Celeste, there is absolutely no place for blacks in Salem.

Sorry, haven't subscribed to Peacock yet. Can anyone watching 'Days' on there tell me if the eps are any longer? I know they were all pre-filmed months ago, but it seems they could add some extra bits in with no time constraints.
by Anonymous | reply 450 | September 13, 2022 3:56 PM |
R450, these were episodes that were filmed for broadcast so they are the standard network length - about 38 minutes. The shows they are filming now will be just for Peacock. They could be longer and the act breaks may fall in different places. Because I'm old, I would love it if they brought back the full open and the end credits over the hourglass or the freeze frame final scene with the end credits.
by Anonymous | reply 451 | September 13, 2022 4:10 PM |
I've always watched on Peacock and because of timing of episode release, I was always a day or two behind. I got caught up last night and it felt like the 1st official Peacock episode (Monday) had more commercial breaks - but just single commercials. Not sure if I preferred that to fewer breaks with a couple more commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 452 | September 13, 2022 4:26 PM |
I don’t have the highest Peacock tier - just the $19.99 per year - and there weren’t any commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 453 | September 13, 2022 4:45 PM |
R453 Same here. .. Peacock tells me to to undo my AdBlocker at t he start, but I don't undo my secondary one (UBlock), and the ads never run. There are a few momentary blips (black screen) where the ads would be inserted, but the ads never break in and Days just continues playing. This is exactly how it was at NBC.com for years and years, until someone bought a clue.

For all the poor, disadvantaged proletariat out there, that wacky Russian guy is still loading the current episode of Days on Dailymotion. He's also the one who puts the day-ahead episode of Y&R up from Canada for those viewers who feel like falling asleep 24 hours before everyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 457 | September 13, 2022 9:44 PM |
I've noticed that if you watch 3 or 4 Days episodes in a row on Peacock -- no stopping and starting, just letting the episodes play without any interruptions --- that the number of commercials in each episode begins diminishing and usually the 3rd or 4th episode will be commercial free.
One time, I had to stop in the middle of a commercial free episode to go run errands. When I returned home and resumed watching the episode, it was no longer commercial free.

[quote] Also, isn’t digital tv still over the air? People still use antennas for it. I think you're talking about the special (and not cheap) antennas people buy just to watch local affiliates of ABC, CBS, and NBC plus local channels (if there still are any). Technically yes, but only in the sense that someone who is brain dead but on life support is still alive.

I noticed that there's only 7 more days left to watch the first installment of Beyond Salem 1. It premiered in September 2021.
Peacock must have the same licensing contract with Sony for the spin offs, since a calendar year is all NBC's contract with Sony allows them to show regular Days episodes. for.
by Anonymous | reply 462 | September 14, 2022 12:16 AM |
R462 If Sony is that stingy with its licensing, then all that stuff about putting up older seasons of Days in promoting the Peacock move must be cheap talk after all.

Often times those expiration dates are just arbitrarily assigned and don't really mean anything. They aren't really enforced.
Besides, Peacock commissioned Beyond Salem 2. No way they would let something they paid out the wazoo for vanish a mere 10 weeks after it debuted.

R465 We're addressing Beyond Salem 1. It's year is up.
Beyond Salem 2 will probably be available until July 2023.
And maybe licensing dates are arbitrary elsewhere, but Peacock seems to be following the one-year license for regular DOOL very uniformly. Some time ago, I noticede that episodes for Season 56 were disappearing from the streaming site every week. As of today, only four episodes for that season remain (September 14 - 17, 2021), and they've got an auto-clock on them. The next one is set to vanish in 17 hours.

I checked the NBC On Demand portion of my cable provider last night. The Days of Our Lives episodes available On Demand has dropped drastically.
On Sunday, every Days episode from the past year was available On Demand, including the Sept. 9 episode, the final broadcast episode.
On Wednesday, three days later, there are probably on about 25 or so episodes available On Demand. It's a scattershot mix of episodes here and there, the old from back in February. The newest from late August.
Didn't realize NBC and my cable provider, Spectrum, would purge Days episodes so quickly after the move to Peacock.

DOOL ended its run on NBC with 1.679 million viewers. That's slightly better than the population of Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, for that same week, General Hospital garnered 2.050 million. I hope those actors are making future plans.
But more than numbers, it's also demographics. The vast majority of viewers are over 50, and by quite a bit. And worse yet, those shows are so incredibly expensive compared to game shows, talk shows, and news fluff.

R538 On that subject, I kinda figured that Abigail's murder is the one that actually has a motive behind it, with the (attempted) murder of Sonny only being done to frame the already-suspected Leo even more (and why Leo's hit list was left at the scene). In that regard, Sonny could just be collateral damage.

Not a lot of photos of Wesley in the 70s available on the internet these days. And none from his Days days. What's available is became of Land of the Lost. And for some reason, the Land of the Lost photos that are available all seem to make him look dorky; don't capture his sexiness.

Will Patty return to Y&R for the 50th? Perhaps Gina, Traci and Lauren (and their hair) can reunite for one more performance.

Is Susan a fag hag?
by Anonymous | reply 577 | September 21, 2022 6:47 PM |
Patty Weaver apparently was a fag hag in the late 70s and 80s. She used to hang out with Wesley Eure and his gay friends all the time.
At some point, Patty found religion. And likely also got sober too. Around this same time, she fell in love with Y&R writer Jerry Birn, who was 26 years older than she was. It was at that point that she told Wesley she could no longer hang out with him and his friends.

Interesting that Zach Tinker is apparently dating a trans woman, the filmmaker Aitch Alberto.

Well now I know I don't want to be Mrs. Zach Tinker.

Well, that's obviously changed since this photo was put up a few weeks ago.

Patty and Wesley have clearly made up since her husband Jerry Birn died.
Here's what he said in a 2009 interview with the We Love Soaps website:
[quote]WE LOVE SOAPS TV: Did you keep in touch with anyone from DAYS after you left?
[quote]Wesley Eure: It was an odd time. Patty Weaver, who was on DAYS OF OUR LIVES [as Trish], used to hang out with me and my friends and had a lot of gay friends, then she moved over to her show [THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS] and married an older man who was a writer, Bill Bell's good friend, and suddenly she cut all the gay men out of her life. [She] actually told us she was cutting us out of her life because she was not allowed to have that lifestyle anymore. I lost my friend Patty Weaver. She literally made her bed. Homophobia effects us in a lot of different ways, professionally and personally. Certain things are different but they are nowhere closed to being resolved.

Thinking about it, I guess Trish Clayton was Bill Bell's early version of Nikki from Y&R. Bill Bell was a good writer, but he basically had 4 or 5 go to stories and just mixed things up a bit and retold them in different versions.

Interesting how Bill Bell cast so many former Days actors on his shows in the 1980s -- Patty Weaver joined Y&R as Gina Roma, Tracy Bregman joined as Lauren Fenmore, Susan Seaforth Hayes joined as Joanna Manning (Lauren's mother). And on B&B, he cast Susan Flannery as matriarch Stephanie Forrester.
Yet, despite this, Bill Bell did NOT cast Wesley Eure on Y&R. It was Bill Bell who cast Wesley as Mike Horton on Days in 1974. He knew how popular the Wesley was. Knew how good an actor he was. Seems like Bell would have jumped to bring Wesley to Genoa City. Unless homophobia figured into his decision.
But anyway, what are some of the 20something roles on Y&R in the early 80s that Wesley could have played?

By early 80s, Eure would have have been in his 30s, and he was kinda short (5'7) to be lead (imho). Leading men on Y&R tended to be model height (at least 6' or more).
I could maybe have seen Eure as "Tim Sullivan," the college professor who knocked up star pupil, Traci Abbott. I think co-ed Traci started taking Tim's class in 1983 and got pregnant by him in1984 (later having a miscarriage due an argument with Patty Williams over gay Danny having only married Traci, so she wouldn't be seen as a scandalous unwed mother)! The actor who played Tim was Scott Palmer, who had also had a prior role on DOOL playing "Joshua Fallon."

I completely forgot that Danny was originally in Tracey's story. How did he transition to the teen story with Cricket and all of that crew.

R589 When Bell had Lauralee on during the summers before she became regular, she was seen as this little teeny-bopper who was younger than the 18-20 year old set of Danny, Patty, Traci, Lauren. She even had to have a legal guardian at that point. Enter Cousin Joe Blair. When she became regular, Cricket was mainly played with her peers Nina and Phillip. They would of course attend Danny Romalotti concerts, with Cricket knowing "the famous rock star," so she had access.. lol! .. As I recall, the main way they worked Danny into this younger set was that insecure Phillip saw Danny as this successful, confident guy who had it made and figured Cricket must be attracted to a popular guy like that. When Nina got pregnant with Phillip's baby, and eventually married him, that left Cricket open to seeing other guys, Danny being one of them. Rapist Derek Stuart being another. With Phillip being involved with Nina, it was mainly Danny who held Cricket's hand through the date rape ordeal. At least that's what I remember. Scott Grainger, who she learned was her half-brother, was also around.

^^^ They should add to the Gay Phillip retcon, and say that he and Chase Benson were fucking on the downlow, with Chase fully aware that Phillip faked his death in order to go lead his best gay life ever Down Under.
And after "Phillip Langley" settled in to his new identity there, Chase accepted his 1991 invitation to attend Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney and never returned -- finally revealing why Chase just up and disappeared from Genoa City one day. Chase found Mr. Right go-go dancing in a jock strap on a float and decided to stay there.

R591 I actually remember that Y&R Valentine's Day episode featuring Cricket Blair and her four beaus. She was in her tiny apartment, and throughout the show, each guy came knocking on her door to give her a Valentine's gift and tell her how Incredible & Amazing and Beautiful & Talented she was. .. At this point, she was still the Virgin Cricket Blair, so the question was would she ever give it up to one of these gay boys? .. And there was actually a FIFTH guy sniffing around her as well who's not included in that SOD photo shoot. It was "Derek Stuart" played by actor, Ken Olandt, and he would go on to become the evil perpetrator of her date rape. .. Around the same time, she found out that Scott Grainger (Peter Barton) was actually her half-brother, and within a few months Phillip (Thom Bierdz) was killed off (or so we thought, RME.)

The Bells had a bizarre explanation why Cricket drove so much story - she was no. 1 in fan mail. I am sure she elicited a lot of letters, 65% of which had to be negative. When you give your darling little girl a spot on your tv show, convince her leading man to 'date her' (I guess Michael Damian had to swallow a lot) perception is out the window
At least Tori Spelling was campy.

Wasn't that the reason Terry Lester left? The show became The Young and the Cricket.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | September 24, 2022 8:23 PM |
R596 Yes, but Lester later issued an apology to Lauralee for what he'd said, which she graciously accepted. It was written about in SOD. .. But of course, many viewers still saw the absolute truth to his original complaint .. lol!

Tori also managed to keep working in mostly respectable projects outside of her dad's influence. Lauralee Bell doesn't even land cameos on Hallmark movies.
