'Industry' season 2

Starts August 1st on HBO Max.

Now featuring Jay Duplass as the most obnoxious hedge-fund billionaire ever. I hate his hairstyle already.

Will there be dong this season?

by Anonymousreply 1July 22, 2022 3:23 PM

There was a massive dong in season 1. I didn't even know it was coming back. I really liked it, so great.

by Anonymousreply 2August 1, 2022 1:41 AM

Will there be stock brokers blowing coke up their clients' asses again?

by Anonymousreply 3August 1, 2022 2:21 AM

Starts tonight.

by Anonymousreply 4August 2, 2022 1:41 AM

The first episode referenced Roxane Gay in a sort of hilarious way. Didn't make fun of her, but had Rishi's posh white fiance tell Harper that she always wanted to hear Roxane Gay's take on things. Lol.

by Anonymousreply 5August 3, 2022 1:25 AM

Great season opener, I was hooked two minutes into it. Oddly enough, Jay Duplass didn't annoy me in the slightest, and I was bracing myself for it as well. All the Covid talk was a bit of a mood killer, but obviously they couldn't avoid it.

I have a terrible crush on Sagar Radia. Has my favourite kind of nose and insanely thick hair. Beautiful, beautiful man. The actor Yasmin bagged, Nicholas Bishop, looked hot as well.

r5 Peak performative white feminist moment, I loved it. And throwing in Ta-Nehisi Coates was the cherry on top. Yes, do go around asking black Americans if they're familiar with him, that's not cringe at all.

by Anonymousreply 6August 5, 2022 2:01 AM

This episode was excellent. As a closet socialist who participates in the disgusting, capitalist race to the bottom, the way they so accurately capture the corporate lust for growth is beautiful. The argument on the desk was awkward and fantastic. Yasmin is just a rich whore; can we be done with her? Eric seems like the type to murder; he’s gotta work on that.

Hope we get some gay male sex soon.

by Anonymousreply 7August 6, 2022 3:27 AM

Yeah Gus unfortunately had zero screen time in the first episode. Hopefully he lands a hot boyfriend this season. Harper's tits were so small but her nipples were so massive though! Like freakishly massive!!!

by Anonymousreply 8August 6, 2022 9:34 AM

I admire actresses with small tits who go topless on screen. She was reluctant to do so in the first season, but has obviously found courage now, good for her. That sort of "small tits, big nipples" look isn't that uncommon at all, you just don't often get see it on TV and in the movies where perfect tatas that most women don't have are preferred. You can see them in French films pretty often, though.

Was I the only one weirded out by the fact that Harper and Eric both mispronounced the word "behoove" in the space of ten seconds? I'm always fascinated when that happens. Presumably they had a table read beforehand, and not a single soul chimed in to say that that is not how you say that word? Not even the script supervisor? Reminds me of Robert and Michelle King's shows where even famous actors mispronounce relatively common words constantly because apparently no one on the set has the guts to correct them in the moment.

by Anonymousreply 9August 6, 2022 9:55 AM

The first trailer made it look like it was going to be an amazing show but Season 1 was the most boring and unwatchable thing I've ever seen in my life. Terrible writing! Annoying cast! And most egregious of all, fake dong!

by Anonymousreply 10August 6, 2022 10:12 AM

Taste differences aside, that dong wasn't fake. But let's not relitigate that issue, we covered it in the previous thread.

by Anonymousreply 11August 6, 2022 10:17 AM

r11 It was made of plastic! And I just looked up some clips of the show, it was even more terrible than I remembered. Please fire the writers and fire everyone in the cast other than the hottie main guy. Then, hire the writers from Succession. This show is a garbage fire.

by Anonymousreply 12August 6, 2022 10:24 AM

It wasn't plastic, it was his actual meat. But like I said, we've done this whole dance in the previous thread already.

Anyway, here's a hairy freshly-fucked Nicholas Bishop to brighten the mood.

by Anonymousreply 13August 6, 2022 10:35 AM

So based on the new trailer, they gave up on London already after one season and are moving them to New York? Not that I disagree with that choice, but I find it amusing for a rare show pitched as starring the city of London.

by Anonymousreply 14August 6, 2022 10:36 AM

r14 That's just the conceit to raise the stakes for the season and make everyone extra paranoid and hyper-competitive (even more so than usual), the show's setting isn't moving anywhere. At least not this season, though there probably won't be another one if that turd David Zaslav has his way.

by Anonymousreply 15August 6, 2022 10:41 AM

r15 So more scenes of them sitting at their desks typing into their computers for minutes on end? YAY!!! I just hope they don't forget to add in tons of monologuing about social issues!

by Anonymousreply 16August 6, 2022 10:46 AM

To be fair, no one is forcing you to watch. Plenty of other shows out there.

by Anonymousreply 17August 6, 2022 10:51 AM

r17 I forced myself to watch it because the guy was hot

by Anonymousreply 18August 6, 2022 10:53 AM

Well, hate-watching is always an option, I suppose.

by Anonymousreply 19August 6, 2022 10:56 AM

The hedonism scenes are supposed to be so shocking but it really doesn't work on me because I don't know who these characters are or why I should care what happens to them.

by Anonymousreply 20August 6, 2022 11:19 AM

I know I watched the first season but I remember absolutely nothing about it.

by Anonymousreply 21August 6, 2022 12:42 PM

r21 Synth music and a plastic dong

by Anonymousreply 22August 6, 2022 12:46 PM

The first one did air two years ago. I watched it earlier this year and I can recall hardly anything either. But that's fine, the season two premiere is set up in a way where you can dive straight in and don't need a refresher course. New characters, new conflicts, new adventures...

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2022 12:49 PM

Is our dearly beloved Lens still involved?

by Anonymousreply 24August 6, 2022 6:00 PM

She directed the series premiere back in 2019, that was the extent of her involvement with this show.

by Anonymousreply 25August 6, 2022 6:09 PM

Is there a thread for Season 1 of this show? I just started watching it and I'd like to read DL's thoughts on the first season. I tried the notoriously bad Search function and found nothing. If there's an earlier thread, can someone post a link here?

TIA

by Anonymousreply 26August 8, 2022 2:19 PM

Here it is, although it doesn't appear to be very substantive. Just endless bitching over whether that one dong was fake or not. That's why I bristled when someone wanted to turn this thread into that same endless fight all over again.

by Anonymousreply 27August 8, 2022 2:27 PM

Thanks, R27. The "dong" in S1, the first episode looked pretty real to me -- but then again, I'm a lesbian. What do I know?

by Anonymousreply 28August 8, 2022 2:55 PM

[quote] I tried the notoriously bad Search function and found nothing.

In the future, use a search engine of your choice (like, Google) and type: Datalounge (and then add either thread title or topic). That should give you much better options than the Datalounge search feature.

by Anonymousreply 29August 8, 2022 3:20 PM

The search function is fine for recent threads, but doesn't go beyond around one year into the past, which is an issue for the thread mentioned at r27.

In any case, the second season is promising to be a lot more lesbian than the first one. Yas and that French pseudo-whore have great chemistry together.

by Anonymousreply 30August 8, 2022 3:29 PM

The search feature is not good for "older" threads. Even if new comments are added, chances are the DL search feature is not showing them in its results.

by Anonymousreply 31August 8, 2022 3:32 PM

For older threads just Google whatever you're searching for and add "Datalounge", e.g.:

Industry HBO Datalounge

Industry Season 1 Datalounge

by Anonymousreply 32August 8, 2022 3:58 PM

Classic Industry episode -- lots of naughty bits and then a high-adrenaline call at the end to top it all off.

So that Italian client had no problem touching Celeste, but told Yas there was no need to act like a whore when she touched him? Very interesting.

Did Eric seriously "actually" Rishi on the difference between a conditional and a subjunctive? Bitch, you don't even know how to pronounce "behoove" properly, stay in your lane and lay off my man.

Gus has fully embraced his homo-ness, which means he's now breeding white twinks, has blue hair and an earring. That old broad wasted Robbie's load, I'd've lapped it all up and asked for seconds.

DVD, the new character, is intriguing in addition to being handsome; he's so goofy when he's flirting. It's such a small detail, but I love how he and Harper didn't immediately kiki together in the first episode because they're both black Americans. They waited until the second episode to have a one-minute "oh, you're from New York too?" and then proceeded to tear each other apart.

Yet another pic of a freshly-fucked Nicholas Bishop and his gorgeous hair, this time reading a book by a DL fave. "This Owen Jones is very readable for a socialist."

by Anonymousreply 35August 10, 2022 3:54 PM

Is the industry really this sexual in real life? My god.

by Anonymousreply 36August 10, 2022 11:59 PM

No one could do that much coke and be functional at work the next morning.

BTW, the Brits seem to be very casual about buying and using coke. Is it legal there? No fentanyl risk?

by Anonymousreply 37August 11, 2022 12:34 AM

I followed the show on Reddit in its first season and many (British) finance bros chimed in. They said the drugs part was exactly as bad as it is in real life and they actually praised the show for not shying away from depicting that. I don't recall them saying anything about all the sex, however.

Coke very much isn't legal, but is basically lying around anywhere you look when you work in that sector.

by Anonymousreply 38August 11, 2022 12:40 AM

I guess it’s been so long since S1, I didn’t even remember the black gay guy who was fucking that dude.

by Anonymousreply 39August 11, 2022 1:04 AM

R39

I do. He was fucking that closet case white guy last season (what happened to him?) and they were friends/lovers for a while. I also remember he was a great worker but quit/pissed on his chances after being disrespected and being burnt out especially after the guy he was working with closest died of a heart attack (?) from being overworked.

by Anonymousreply 40August 11, 2022 1:28 AM

[quote]that closet case white guy

Theo, played by Will Tudor, a closet case himself and well known to DL.

by Anonymousreply 41August 11, 2022 1:39 AM

Nobody watched this week?

Harper dicks Eric. I'm lovin' it.

by Anonymousreply 42August 17, 2022 1:45 AM

I watched this week. I thought it was great. Nice to see Gus back with more than one line. Another tense ending. That "high wealth individuals" chick that Yas is working for creeps me out. I don't trust her.

by Anonymousreply 43August 17, 2022 3:16 AM

The new gay character, played by Sonny Poon Tip (ethnic mix TBD), is an acquired taste facially-wise, but he does have a nice body. And I love his soft faggy demeanor, it's very soothing to watch. Admits he's a slut, so how long before Gus breeds him? They're kissing in the trailer, aren't they?

I guffawed when Harper started masturbating on the bathroom floor after Robert couldn't get hard. Who among us hasn't been there, amirite?

Yasmin's father is so disgusting. What's his damage, exactly? Just a necrotic narcissist?

The crypto talk is so funny to listen to now that NFTs have collapsed.

I listened to a podcast interview with the showrunners and they said the actor playing Rishi asked for a bigger role and they gave it to him this season. I love a thirsty bitch, makes him even more attractive in my eyes.

by Anonymousreply 44August 17, 2022 11:50 AM

We've seen Gus breed. I don't want him to get with Bloom's son. Didn't he blow him off at the end - thinking he's a formulaic rich, lazy kid? Not that that prohibits breeding.

by Anonymousreply 45August 17, 2022 2:51 PM

Anyone else notice that Fellim’s (spelling?) zipper was down after he was shot in the face and Harper was making him a drink?

by Anonymousreply 46August 22, 2022 5:04 AM

Oh man, this show is slowly reaching Succession-level quality, this episode was so good.

Like I predicted, Gus is now breeding that little white slut, good for him. That constituent with the rough accent was sexy as hell, I hope Gus fucks him too.

Eric's NYT detour was chef's kiss and that evening Broadway shot at the end was gorgeous. Funny how he had no clue Asian Americans in the US faced backlash because of Covid, and that then immediately reminded him of his old MAGA mentor's casual racism towards him.

Robbie's face when Harper told him the client he's fucking MeToo'd her in the past, yikes. He did not like that at all. Also, Yasmin looking gooped when she thought her family was poor now cracked me up. Or her look when Celeste told her she had a wife.

Can Maxim just fuck me already? This show makes me want to start smoking again.

DVD loves eating ass even after he's busted a nut, what a champ! And I agree with Harper, he's remarkably well-balanced.

by Anonymousreply 49August 23, 2022 11:41 AM

I find this show compelling but the dialogue is 99% pseudo Shakespearean tech finance bro word salad NONSENSE. It’s also extremely weirdly directed and edited where it seems the showrunners pick the most bizarre takes of the actors they can find saying the absurd dialogue to keep everything off kilter. What the hell was Eric Tao doing for the entirety of this last episode with his one expression? Harper’s entire attitude, look, and motivation changes from scene to scene sometimes from line to line. In its efforts to keep everything obtuse and to maintain the sheen of prestige television the show falls into gibberish. It wasn’t nearly as bad last year, but this year the producers are really leaning into the obfuscation and it’s going to lose whatever audience it has if they aren’t careful.

by Anonymousreply 50August 23, 2022 12:26 PM

Pretty much disagree with everything you just said. The finance stuff you're not supposed to understand, it's just there to create interpersonal drama. The editing looks like that to give everything the feel of a coked-fuelled frenzy. And it's not going to lose an audience -- Reddit is going crazy over it where it barely noticed the first season. If it gets cancelled, it'll be because Zaslav is cancelling everything left and right for reasons known only to him.

I will agree that the actor playing Eric isn't all that. I don't know why the critics praise him so much. Still haven't forgiven him for mispronouncing "behoove".

by Anonymousreply 51August 23, 2022 12:34 PM

They can do better for Gus. I loved that has gay and that was integrated into the character. But now he's just gonna be the token fag who "breeds" ugly dudes?

by Anonymousreply 52August 23, 2022 2:30 PM

He doesn't only do that, he just helped a constituent by actually listening to him whereas people before then just dismissed him as a crazy poor person. Also, breeding Leo is bound to eventually blow up in his and Harper's faces.

by Anonymousreply 53August 23, 2022 2:34 PM

I think in the long run a series needs at least one character you can root for.

All these people are miserable fucks. Of course, it's fiction and I guess meant to convey some greater statement on the human condition. But despite all the sex, drugs, money and pressure cooker work environment, the real-life counterparts of these people are - trust me - insufferably boring. You'd find more interesting people at a fraternity keg party.

And all the "jargon" is finance 101 and most of the penetrating "insights" into a particular trade situation are either stating the obvious or pure doublespeak.

by Anonymousreply 54August 23, 2022 4:05 PM

I know I'm just an old lesbian with zero sex drive (lost it after menopause), but isn't all this fucking getting sort of repetitive? I mean, it's at the point where virtually everyone has fucked (or almost fucked) everyone else. And I know it's been > 40 years since I've used any illegal substances, but how can people snort tons of coke and go right to sleep?

Maybe you younger gays can enlighten me, because this show is starting to get boring.

by Anonymousreply 55August 24, 2022 2:29 AM

It doesn't make ANY sense because they're all pretty contemptible, but I CAN and do actually root for Harper, Robert, Gus, Yas, Eric, DVD.

by Anonymousreply 56August 24, 2022 4:20 AM

DVD is so fucking sexy. I would love to go down on him.

by Anonymousreply 57August 24, 2022 12:43 PM

I feel like the sex scenes in this show are relatively fresh, so I don't mind them that much. Eating ass post-climax? I've never seen that on TV before, for example. And they're young people, of course they hook up constantly.

r56 I also root for those characters. They're all flawed people in a cutthroat industry. They don't need to be perfect for me to like them, they just need to show growth in order to be relatable to me.

by Anonymousreply 58August 24, 2022 12:50 PM

[quote] And all the "jargon" is finance 101 and most of the penetrating "insights" into a particular trade situation are either stating the obvious or pure doublespeak.

Exactly, you know that actual finance people laugh at the total nonsense. There’s no way it lands with the cognoscenti who actually know the terminology. It’s trying to be Succession where the dialogue relies on the relationships of the characters rather than jargon, but just doesn’t have the wit or black humor to pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 59August 24, 2022 12:52 PM

[quote]Exactly, you know that actual finance people laugh at the total nonsense.

It was written to be nonsense, dear Lord. The showrunners say as much in their interviews. This is not a niche show for experts, it's a show for the general public. The jargon simply provides the background for the interpersonal drama, it should not be where your attention is at when you're watching this show.

by Anonymousreply 60August 24, 2022 12:57 PM

This thread is 90% written by a single poster, this show is terrible, the dick was fake, and I’m so glad there won’t be a 3rd season.

Is anybody watching this? The recaps sound awful.

by Anonymousreply 67August 24, 2022 9:55 PM

I live this show. Definitely rooting for Harper. I think Yas is a fascinating character.

by Anonymousreply 68September 1, 2022 1:58 PM

Yeah, I watch it and enjoy it.

by Anonymousreply 69September 1, 2022 2:20 PM

Industry is really good. Arguably it's just as nihilistic as Succession, and just as filled with loathsome people, but doesn't seem to be connecting so far with bigger audiences. S2 is definitely expanding the show's horizons, and focusing even more on Harper and Yas has been dramatically successful.

And it seems like 2 other people are watching it!

by Anonymousreply 70September 1, 2022 2:24 PM

Yas’s father’s “pied-a-terre” in Berlin was amazing. I would love to have that apartment.

by Anonymousreply 71September 1, 2022 2:35 PM

I watch it, but it's becoming a bit boring and repetitive. And IDGAF about the brother. Or the dad.

It was more fun watching the financial wheeling and dealing.

by Anonymousreply 72September 1, 2022 3:04 PM

I honestly was shocked to see Harper's brother. I figured he was dead, but Harper never had that confirmed, so he sort of became a White Whale obsession to her which haunted her but which also drove her forward in her life.

I'd agree, the scenes with the brother were meh but it gives us some insight into Harper who calls a narcissist.

by Anonymousreply 73September 1, 2022 3:19 PM

I just don't know how these people do so many drugs and still function at what I am assuming is a high performing job. And yes, I realize it's not real life.

by Anonymousreply 74September 1, 2022 7:09 PM

The last episode was very good---none of that finance filler and the focus is more directly on the characters as individuals. I, too, wondered if the brother was real. Their backstory comes in dialog that is probably the way real people talk, but could have clued us into things in their family to a greater degree. I finally found Yas not annoying.

by Anonymousreply 75September 1, 2022 7:22 PM

The brother stuff was dumb despite both actors working really hard trying to turn it into something. The best thing about the episode was the fact that there was actual dialogue rather than lists of nonsense being thrown at the screen.

by Anonymousreply 76September 1, 2022 10:59 PM

Who has Harper been DM-ing on Instagram all season?

by Anonymousreply 77September 2, 2022 1:35 AM

My new favorite show. I binged season 1 and now can't wait each week. If you have HBO check it out. It's intelligent and sexy.

by Anonymousreply 78September 2, 2022 1:38 AM

The diversity of guys I'd like to the fuck on the show is great: Robert (white Brit), Rishi (Indian Brit), Gus ( dark black Brit), DVD (medium Black American). I'd even give Kenny a go (short power bottom Irish?). Who is Yaz's finance dude?

by Anonymousreply 79September 2, 2022 3:37 AM

r79 I think Kenny is sexy in a weird way also!

by Anonymousreply 80September 2, 2022 4:12 AM

I’m finding Robert a most interesting character. To start with, of course, he’s a sterling example of a. slight but athletic-bodied young stud and the fucking is all good fun (at least to the viewer). But more than that, the heavy regional accent works to personalize his generally very smart and seemingly well-educated observations. In other words, he seems quite a cool guy, and mercifully less money obsessed than most of the other characters. Harper scares me. She seems capable of anything. It’s all about her and it always has been (ask her brother). And she seems to become more ruthless at every opportunity. I quite liked her (the character) in the first season and like her less with each self-serving action.

The show is more character- less plot-driven than Succession. Though I’ve often said that really has no plot either, this has, I think, even less. But its characters and their diverse backgrounds keep Industry afloat.

by Anonymousreply 81September 2, 2022 5:31 AM

I lost interest in Succession because it was the same thing over and over and none of the characters had much depth--just different manifestations of narcissism and all were unlikable. The characters here are driven, but at least somewhat varied. The problem is that the character types can get exhausted after awhile. Harper is ambitious and cut throat, but she needed the visit with her brother to put that in some perspective. Robert's cycles of substance use and sobriety can be tiresome (like real life), so it was nice to have the break, showing his father. This is one show where "growth" (just not too much of it) might be a good thing or at the very least some plot lines that expose chinks in armor (Harper) or other complexities in character.

by Anonymousreply 82September 2, 2022 12:04 PM

This show is nowhere near the brilliance of Succession. Not even close.

by Anonymousreply 83September 2, 2022 7:42 PM

Succession? Brilliant? HA.

Unless of course you're looking for high camp.

by Anonymousreply 84September 2, 2022 8:35 PM

They are laying on the sex quite thick(ly) this season. I would like to see more buying and selling of companies. Although it was probably silly for industry vets, I loved the forced tension of Bloom’s buying scene.

I feel like Gus will get burnt trying to do politics and will reluctantly be back in the office by the end of the season. Lmao R47. Agreed that guy was hot, even with his character’s issues.

Yasmin’s creeper father was a nice extension for her character.

by Anonymousreply 85September 2, 2022 9:45 PM

Yas probably has 10 half-siblings, lol. Her dad is almost delightfully creepy because he really doesn't seem to think anything he does is that bad - it's just natural, what's the problem?

by Anonymousreply 86September 2, 2022 9:49 PM

Yas is never as interesting as the people around her.

by Anonymousreply 87September 3, 2022 1:18 AM

I really loved the latest episode. Harper was fantastic in it!

by Anonymousreply 88September 7, 2022 7:43 PM

I like the cliffhanger. What are her and Eric gonna cook up?

by Anonymousreply 89September 7, 2022 9:39 PM

I got the feeling that Yas was instantly regretting the whole PWM move and the Celeste fucking. I do not trust Celeste at all.

by Anonymousreply 90September 7, 2022 9:51 PM

Same. Seems like she wanted to feel "special" because she was having an affair with Celeste. When Celeste explained her open arrangement and that Yas isn't the only side chick she's hooked up with, Yas seemed deflated. Beyond that, they're fucking and working in super close proximity. That usually doesn't work out long term. It will blow up in Yas's face - just like she blew up in Celeste's face.

by Anonymousreply 91September 7, 2022 9:53 PM

R90 Celeste always comes across like a high-end escort to me, which someone on another site said that it is what Yas aspires to be. Well, that and to be taken seriously.

by Anonymousreply 92September 10, 2022 2:16 PM

R77 It was her brother's girlfriend. She did some cyber sleuthing and found out he was in Berlin and working in that restaurant. What Harper didn't know was that the girlfriend and brother broke up (they have an on again/off again relationship). That's why the girlfriend was being obtuse and totally unhelpful.

by Anonymousreply 93September 10, 2022 2:23 PM

R93, thank for the explaination. I had no clue what was going on there.

by Anonymousreply 94September 10, 2022 2:27 PM

[quote]When Celeste explained her open arrangement and that Yas isn't the only side chick she's hooked up with, Yas seemed deflated.

Not only that, Yas hooked up with the cuck in that relationship (it was the wife who introduced the idea of the open arrangement) AND the junior partner because the wife is quite a bit older than Celeste and thus a lot more seasoned. And Yas found out all that in the space of a minute or two, leaving her looking totally gooped.

Also, as someone pointed out elsewhere, she was raving about her orgasms when the sex was probably just average for Celeste, lol.

by Anonymousreply 95September 10, 2022 2:29 PM

The guy who plays Eric is fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 96September 10, 2022 2:30 PM

R96 Eric's range of emotion isn't too varied but the way the actor plays the simmering rage, barely below the surface at times, is good. That takes a lot of control.

by Anonymousreply 97September 10, 2022 3:16 PM

I want to sleep with the actor who plays DVD.

by Anonymousreply 98September 10, 2022 3:20 PM

Right, R97. There's always an element of menace. And now he's just frittering away in his out-to-pasture position - seemingly getting used to it, but probably developing another layer of rage.

DVD is hot as hell. He's totally THAT GUY - kind face, always tries to keep it level and clam - but underneath he's just as shitty as the rest of them who present much more arrogantly and obnoxiously.

Side character shout out - I love Jackie from Yas's old FX desk.

by Anonymousreply 99September 10, 2022 3:23 PM

I thought the ginger guy was going to also advise Yas to sober up. Maybe he did. I was drunk.

by Anonymousreply 100September 10, 2022 6:12 PM

DVD is going to make it through the whole season without a proper nude shot.

Unacceptable.

by Anonymousreply 101September 13, 2022 11:58 PM

Rishi is such a smooth-talking bastard, I want him inside me, quite deeply.

And yes, DVD is a beautiful man.

by Anonymousreply 102September 14, 2022 2:25 AM

I thought episode 7 was great. A lot of great lines - jokes by Rishi, and Yaz's comments to Kenny - who seems to have centered hi sobriety around her.

The whole Nicole-Venetia situation and the house of cards it caused was handled well. I never liked Daria, but boy did she earn that revenge - though I thought she gave a nugget of info away to Harper about Bloom's position on something.

Really looking forward to next week

by Anonymousreply 103September 14, 2022 6:50 AM

No comments about the season (series?) finale? I thought it was great and had you guessing up until the very end. It seemed like Eric was trying to protect Harper from her insider trading mishap by getting her fired and shipped back to the U.S.

The Yas/Celeste relationship predictably went south. Yas’s father is a complete asshole but she should have known he was goin go to cut her off once she showed all of her cards at the bar. “You went on 14 vacations a year.”

The Harper/Rishi fucking really surprised me. And I thought I could be quick!

Hope it gets renewed for another season.

by Anonymousreply 104September 20, 2022 12:21 PM

I obviously missed something, but how does Yas not have any money outside of her dad? Obviously she has a well paying job. She couldn't even come up with cab fare.

by Anonymousreply 105September 20, 2022 12:47 PM

Yeah, R105. That seemed like a plot hole to me. She wasn’t 100% dependent on her father. She had a job at a bank.

by Anonymousreply 106September 20, 2022 1:29 PM

Such a great finale and that ending blindsided me completely. Shanked DVD and got shanked in return. Gus landed on his feet beautifully.

I will say it is criminal we haven't seen Rishi shirtless two seasons in. Show us his tits already, they look spectacular in those tight shirts.

by Anonymousreply 107September 20, 2022 3:41 PM

[QUOTE] I will say it is criminal we haven't seen Rishi shirtless two seasons in. Show us his tits already, they look spectacular in those tight shirts.

Agreed! Rishi is so sexy.

by Anonymousreply 108September 20, 2022 5:11 PM

Loved Myha'la on Bodies X3. I should give this a try as well

by Anonymousreply 109September 20, 2022 5:20 PM

R108 yes we need more Rishi sex scenes

by Anonymousreply 110September 20, 2022 9:27 PM

R105 r106 When Yas’ father was yelling at her he commented that she never separated her accounts from his - her paychecks were going into the “family” checking account. She played herself in spectacular fashion.

by Anonymousreply 111September 20, 2022 9:34 PM

R51 et al - It always cracks me up when acting folks attempting to portray rich people mangle the pronunciations of French, German, or Hungarian wines. d'Yquem and Trockenbeerenauslese especially come to mind. Who hired the dialog coach, anyways?

PS - Just a refinement on using Google, you can use it for other websites: Try "stupid tv shows" site:datalounge.com

Don't include the www. or any of the stuff to the left of that.

by Anonymousreply 112September 20, 2022 9:39 PM

R104 it was literally like 30 seconds. Super hot though

by Anonymousreply 113September 20, 2022 9:43 PM

Eric played the long game. I thought the season (series) finale was great. I think Eric was saving Harper from herself and at the same time saving himself from her, and the firm from her. For a quick moment when it's revealed that it's not an insider trading inquiry but the fact that she falsified her transcripts, and Eric says he's trying to help her or something, I thought, briefly, that the firm was going to pay for her remaining education. Lol.

Yas is such an idiot and learned in spectacular fashion about virtue signaling when you don't have much to stand on and when you haven't really thought things through. Celeste and her father wasted no time.

Poor, poor Rob. Put upon and abused and seems to lean into it to convince himself he has some sort of control. Probably abuse in his past. Nicole - "things happen and then they're fine."

The reddit thread is good. Talk about Gus's boss playing him, as Eric and Bloom played Harper. If there's a season 3 (I'm doubtful), I'd assume Harper works for Bloom?

by Anonymousreply 114September 20, 2022 10:48 PM

r112 It would be crazy to hire a dialogue coach just for those couple of pronunciations. Total waste of money that would never be allowed by any sane production company.

r113 I counted twelve thrusts, initial insertion included. I still would very much like Rishi's poison inside me even if he is a premature shooter.

by Anonymousreply 115September 20, 2022 10:49 PM

[quote]Nicole - "things happen and then they're fine."

For a brief moment, I totally understood where she was coming from when she was excusing her predatory ways. Your entire world and that hugely important business relation shouldn't implode just because someone reached for your crotch and you said "no, thank you." Like, it's not that big of a deal, we're all adults.

Am I being crazy here? I guess it's a testament to the writing that a fictional serial MeTooer can briefly change my opinion on something that has rocked the western world so much over the past few years. Maybe I'm excusing her because she's a woman?

by Anonymousreply 116September 20, 2022 11:00 PM

I don't think you're crazy. The reaction to that sort of the behavior almost always ranges from "this is affirmatively horrible" to just what you were talking about - based on myriad factors. I'm not universally excusing it, but acknowledging that it IS excused at times, even in our age of heightened awareness - and, again, for myriad reasons. And it will never not be the case that even if the behavior is wrong, speaking up about it doesn't always bring a positive result to whomever spoke up.

by Anonymousreply 117September 21, 2022 12:24 AM

"Now featuring Jay Duplass as the most obnoxious hedge-fund billionaire ever. I hate his hairstyle already.

Rereading OP's post from before the second season began, I think, having finished the season, that overall Jesse Bloom really wasn't that obnoxious.

by Anonymousreply 118September 21, 2022 3:49 AM

…. or interesting

by Anonymousreply 119September 21, 2022 10:19 AM

r118 I agree! I sensed my first impression of him was wrong a couple of minutes into his first scene with him already. He's a master manipulator, but he's not a monster, personality-wise.

I heard the writers were originally considering an older actor for him and one who would possibly be a love interest for Harper, but then Duplass showed up and they had a totally different vibe together, so they decided to take a different route with him.

by Anonymousreply 120September 21, 2022 11:01 AM

I think this may be the best show on television right now. Both seasons have been fantastic, surprising, intricate, and sexy AF. PLEASE, HBO, RENEW THIS SHOW!!!! And DVD definitely needs to get naked, dick and all, next season. The sex scene between him and Harper was hot -- and we found out he loves to eat ass! Can we have him and Robbie turning gay next season and fucking nonstop?

by Anonymousreply 121September 21, 2022 11:25 AM

I've found small pockets of passionate fans, but overall there's just no audience - in the US at least. At least it's an HBO, rather than HBO Max, original, so maybe that improves its chances at a third season.

The reddit threads are usually pretty good, and I'm not even a member or regular user of reddit. Found the reddit discussion when looking for recaps. It's the only place that has good number of replies/posts for each episode.

by Anonymousreply 122September 21, 2022 6:08 PM

R122 Just took a browse, kind of funny to see "straight" guys on Reddit having the hots for Rishi since he's such an alpha.

by Anonymousreply 123September 21, 2022 6:19 PM

In some ways, it's a relative of Succession, but with less unlikable characters. One problem is that the Harper-Eric relationship had too many ups and dones and seemed exhausting and contrived by the end of Season 1. The effort to get the finance stuff true to life often made the plots seem opaque and boring.I'm not really sure they have a basis for a third season, or at least one that would be compelling viewing.

by Anonymousreply 124September 21, 2022 9:40 PM

We need to talk about Celeste, Yas's lipstick-lez, can't place the accent, absolutely insane freak weirdo of a boss. Who is this actress and how did they come up with such a bizarre character? That said, I can't take my eyes off her!

by Anonymousreply 125September 21, 2022 11:07 PM

Celeste really is a wacky character. Immensely seductive presence and the accent is fabulous. She did however mumble often and I could hardly understand her in the last episode in that office scene. She has some breath control issues, probably stemming from the fact that she's ESL. Loved her confronting Yas, basically implying that she had to get MeToo'd countless times just to get to the point Yas started off at, so she will not be lectured on morality by this privileged, spoiled little girl.

Fun bit of trivia: the actress, Katrine De Candole, was born in Berlin and started her career in 1998 with an appearance in Cher's Believe music video.

by Anonymousreply 126September 21, 2022 11:31 PM

The performers playing Eric and Celeste are brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 127September 22, 2022 2:10 AM

The lead actress looks like a skinnier better looking version of Lena Dunham. She has been quite good. Ken Lung plays himself and he's really good at that. The show this season hasn't been that bad. I expected this to be Succession meets Wall Street done wrong.

by Anonymousreply 128September 24, 2022 10:20 AM

Harper looks like Lena Dunham???

by Anonymousreply 129September 24, 2022 11:09 AM

Yeah, r128 must be an Asian to whom all white and black people look the same.

by Anonymousreply 130September 24, 2022 11:10 AM

Eric has been a most annoying character---he just keeps coming back and each time it seems more contrived. The show easily could have lost him

by Anonymousreply 131September 24, 2022 12:44 PM

Something just occurred to me, what with all these people speculating that Rishi might have known Harper had been sacked the day before already when they had sex. It's possible that toilet affair was a pity fuck or that dominance thing where you get to fuck your felled opponent. Either way, yikes!

r131 Eric is quiet, but surgical and ruthless. I'm not at all surprised he keeps coming back. He's not my favourite character either.

by Anonymousreply 132September 24, 2022 12:59 PM

I'm quite sure Harper is going to use that toilet fuck to exact revenge on Rishi.

by Anonymousreply 133September 24, 2022 1:21 PM

I really like this show, even though I don’t really understand a lot of the business stuff. I never hear anyone talking about it though, so I wonder if it will continue. HBO kept Westworld on way past it’s expiration date, so they ought to give INDUSTRY more time.

by Anonymousreply 134September 24, 2022 2:28 PM

If you liked/loved industry, you might like Flack on Amazon Prime, with Anna Paquin. It's PR/crisis communications professionals instead of finance professionals. But, it's London, cityscapes, lots of work drama - like the first episode Pacquin's character trying to fix the situation with a publicly straight pro footballer (who was hot) who's guy trick ODed in a hotel room. Plus sex, drinking, drugs, fun side characters. I don't think it's quite as good, but I really enjoyed it for what it is.

by Anonymousreply 135September 26, 2022 1:31 PM

r135, agreed. Flack isn't as good, but it's got a similar sensibility (in this case, about publicity rather than finance), and boasts two terrific performances from Lydia Wilson and Sophie Okonedo. There was talk of a season 3, but it doesn't seem to have materialized (neither renewed nor cancelled by Amazon).

by Anonymousreply 136September 26, 2022 1:47 PM

The actress who plays Harper is great.

In real life, I would do everything I could at work to stay away from Harper.

by Anonymousreply 137September 27, 2022 12:16 AM

Renewed for season 3! Zaslav must've been in a good mood that day.

I reached my saturation point as I did with Billions and couldn't watch the finale.Too many sociopaths and disgusting people. If it's your cup of tea, cheers.

by Anonymousreply 139October 25, 2022 4:39 PM

So excited, R138!

by Anonymousreply 140October 25, 2022 4:44 PM

I'm so happy it's getting renewed, I could call my stockbroker to blow cocaine up my ass! Let's party!

by Anonymousreply 141October 25, 2022 5:36 PM

We better get shirtless Rishi next season, I'm all out of patience.

by Anonymousreply 142October 25, 2022 6:14 PM

R138 excellent news ! I season 2 was even better than season 1 so I have high hopes for number 3.

by Anonymousreply 143October 25, 2022 6:31 PM

Great news. Honestly, I'm surprised.

by Anonymousreply 144October 25, 2022 9:04 PM

Everyone has bad teeth

by Anonymousreply 145October 25, 2022 9:44 PM

Whatever happened to the Robert character this past season, it’s like they demoted him or he was an after thought. Meanwhile they seemed to have given Yasmin the lion’s share of the story. I really do not like Rishi everything he says sounds so forced and unnatural and rehearsed coming out of his mouth, but maybe that’s the point of his character and maybe there are men who are really like that.

by Anonymousreply 146October 26, 2022 2:13 AM

He was sort of an afterthought, but I think that was supposed to reflect his lack of progress at the firm and his issues with being shit on by people, his lack of confidence, his inability to speak up. He still had a substantive arc, if less than season 1 - with the staying sober angle, his trying to put his foot down with Nicole and ultimately failing, and his discussion/confrontation with his father

by Anonymousreply 147October 26, 2022 3:41 AM

I think Robert's development as a character made absolutely perfect sense and was handled very well. But I definitely missed his swagger from the first season, as well as all his hot nude/sex scenes. Harry's already starting to lose a little bit of his looks.

by Anonymousreply 148October 27, 2022 11:51 AM

I really like this show. It took me a while to settle in with the characters but now I like all of them.

by Anonymousreply 149October 27, 2022 11:59 AM

Renewed for a 3rd season!!!!! Thank you HBO, David Zaslav I kiss the ground you walk on.

by Anonymousreply 150November 5, 2022 12:24 PM

I watched all of season 1, but I only made it through about half of season 2.

One reason was because it created that work pressure environment well. I'm not a trader but I do work in financial services and I found it sometimes made me stressed because it reminded me too much of my actual job. And that's not great for leisure time.

But also because almost every character is a monumental cunt. I get the point is that it's a dog-eat-dog environment but I found it a bit exhausting not really liking (or rooting for) anyone.

by Anonymousreply 151November 5, 2022 12:28 PM

Industry was renewed because HBO isn’t really paying for it. BBC is paying most expenses. If it had been a full HBO production it would have been canceled.

by Anonymousreply 152November 5, 2022 12:30 PM

[quote]The diversity of guys I'd like to the fuck on the show is great

You're forgetting Harper's boyfriend from back home. Now he was hot - though only on screen for about 5 minutes in Season 1. I'd do lines of coke off his dick anytime.

by Anonymousreply 153November 17, 2022 7:39 PM

Definitely, R153. I didn't think he was otherworldly hot, but he was cute and had a tight bod.
