Unless Bill Hayes specifically asked to be written out, I can't imagine the show killing off Doug. It would be an insult to longtime fans to kill Doug off.

He may be 97, but is still in good shape, relatively speaking for someone that age. Seems to be mentally alert as well.

Some people on Twitter seem to think it's going to be either Victor or Clyde.

I think the show could stand to lose Victor, Roman, Kate, Julie & Doug.

The show needs more young Melrose Place types to get the hot bed hopping drama going.

Kate only has 1 offspring (turtle wannabe Lucas) on the show & I bet it won't be for long. She has been boring since she came up out of the grave.

If Roman dies, then unemployed son Eric could take over the pub & give out his holier than thou advice to the customers.

I know some fans are glad that Cin is finally leaving. Some of the Bope fans had gotten tired of Ciara because she started acting a little bit like a Karen when it comes to Ben. People shouldn't be surprised that RSW is still there because he is literally Albert Alarr "top" favorite male cast member. RSW is probably never leaving the show unless it's cancelled and not until the very last episode.

RSW is so much hotter than smirky dumbo flat assed Chambo.

Speaking of Sweeney, she looked really good this time. She looked refreshed and had a good wardrobe. It looks like they are bringing on another cop, based on the promo. Quite frankly, I think all of the exits will breathe new life into the show.

Did Victoria Konefal want to work part time too like Marci Miller, or was she officially done? Either way, both actresses could've been recast, imo, however it made sense to write Ben/Ciara off for they were treading along the lines of boring with the whole "happily ever after" deal. How many more times could they have Ciara kidnapped or either of them presumed dead, I guess. Abigail could've easily left town, again, went to jail (in exchange for Gwen somehow, since they're going to eventually let her out, unless they get rid of her) or at least presumed dead, although we all know she'll most likely be back whether or not Marci (or Kate Mansi) is in the role.

The younger cast all wants to do movies part time and pursue other passions and just keep coming in and out of Salem. But Ron's not having it as he wants a steady cast of characters on the canvas. Not everyone can command the Alison Sweeney Sami deal. The older crowd is happy to have a job and stick around.

As for Ciara, for the life of me I can't understand why that character can't be recast. Konefal is a nice person, but she's a dime a dozen. I'm sure they could find another actress to play that part. There is something that doesn't pass the smell test with that decision. There is some reason why Corday won't let that actress be recast.

There wasn't much more they could do with Ben from Ron's standpoint because VK doesn't want to be there full time and Ron already made it clear that Ben would never be paired up with anyone else. Ben has had only 2 romantic relationships Ciara and Abby in Salem.

Days fans aren't crazy like GH fans, I can imagine a recast being harassed, like they do at GH.

R61 I don't see that at all. He may be overshadowed in scenes by some of the others who were over-acting. I especially like the scene on Thursday with Will and Chad at the police station. Will was civil to Chad but he was also angry at Chad for accusing his dad of murder. I was hoping there would be a following scene with Will and Lucas which would allow Will to vent, but the next episode started on the next Salem day with Kate visiting Lucas instead.

Why did it take so long for them to figure out that Gina was Hope? Why couldn't they just do a DNA test with Doug and/or Shawn D?

I sound like a broken record, but why oh why since you know it is SUMMER are we not seeing the men shirtless, at a pool, or so on....

For example, the one and only Xander! HE should be shown off in his blue speedo constantly! He would be if this was the 1980s and 1990s soap opera landscape!...I read somewhere online that perhaps the actor Paul Telfer was tired of being seen as the piece of meat on the soap and didn't want to "show it off" anymore or at least not as much? However, do the actors have ANY say so in what they will or won't do or wear??....

I blame it on the shooting schedule R81, which is tired to the budget, for the reason why we don't get to see seasons any longer. If you follow Paul Telfer on the socials you will see that he's game for anything, so I can't imagine that he wouldn't be up for walking around in trunks all summer.

If Barash's Jake is leaving, I'll be disappointed, but there's not much for the character at this point. I assume Braun's Ava can't be far behind with Tripp now off-screen.

IIRC, Banus, Konefal and Miller all left the show for greener pastures, pre-covid, and seemed to be welcomed back when potential work dried up. Without Hope on canvas, Ciara won't be missed, and I'm sure RSW will be glad to shed Ben, who is still vilified by the screaming shrews of the internet. I hope they find a new orbit for Doug and Julie with Eli and Lani gone.

What they do at DAYS is a true balancing act between filming and budget., so I get why they want contract players. I can't remember the last time they had a temp fill-in, but it happens all the time at GH.

R80 The whole "Madison Blanche" and the mystery of "Who is Gina?" storyline in the 90s was event TV. The tension between Bo and his new love Billie Reed and this mystery woman who looked just like Bo's lost wife Hope was thick. It was a real soapy mystery that lasted for months (if not years) and made for some great moments. Was this just some sick joke of Stefano's to torture the Bradys? If Gina was Hope, what would Bo do? It wasn't until she solved Tom Horton's puzzle box that everyone knew for sure that she was really Hope. If you solved that all in 5 minutes with a DNA test, all those stories would have been lost.

How is Dee Hall only 75? She seemed 40-45 on Electrawoman and Dynagirl almost 50 years ago. Something is not right.

I distinctly remember a DNA test to see if Gina was Shawn's mother and it came back that they were related but more distantly, like Aunt and Nephew. I thought at the time they were going to make her some Hope lookalike cousin from the Williams side. Was glad they didn't.

Nope Jim Reilly said that she was always going to be Hope. And that he came up with Gina because every letter in Gina is one letter away from Hope.

I wonder who the next teen set will consist of since Allie, Johnny and Chanel are leading the young twenty-somethings. Sydney would be a good choice as a trouble-maker instead of being as nice as her siblings (we've never really seen Johnny's bad side which Allie always speaks of, except for when he was possessed). When Ron first started with Frank on GH, the rumor was that Ron wasn't really a fan of teen stories lol it was more of what Frank wanted, so I suppose we'll have to see. The last group was Ciara, Claire, Theo, Tripp right? They even seemed like they were in their early twenties under Ron.

A few months ago, someone here on DL said that when Kristian Alfonso agreed to return in 1994, she had it written into her contract that her character would eventually be revealed to be Hope.

Never heard that before reading it here and don't know if its true, but it was a savvy move. Lookalike characters sometimes don't catch on. Better for Kristian to guarantee she's the real thing.

R109 The last group was the ill-fated NuTeens of 2015! Chase and the first Ciara were failures and written off. Then, Theo, Joey and Claire left one by one. Tripp was added in 2017 just as Joey was on his way out and was essentially a replacement son for Patch while Joey went to jail. Ciara did not become a hit until she was recast as VK and returned at the end of 2017 to fall for Ben.

Quite frankly, I don't Ron likes to write for "older" characters so he can camp them up. I don't think he has any interest in writing for teens. And to be honest, you can't really write interesting teens any longer because teens can't do anything without Twitter going apeshit. If some writer tried to do Euphoria on daytime, they would be fired immediately. The funny thing is soaps were doing Euphoria back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. A soap writer could never write a teen like Sami Brady or Laura Vining today.

I guess Chase raping the first Ciara was an attempt to push the teen stories into controversial territories, but the characters were sent off from the show after that, so that was certainly a failure. Anyways, Ron came in around mid 2017, so the NuTeens of 2015 was not his mess.

The NuTeens of 2015 were Dena's doing. Just like killing off Will was Dena's doing. As was the character assassination of Aiden Jennings (Daniel Cosgrove).

Chase raping Ciara on the Horton sofa was especially distasteful because we barely even knew these new teenage characters. It takes time to introduce new characters and let the audience care about what happens to them. The rape happened just a few months after their casting.

Some talk about Megan appearing on the main show, but it won't be till next year since the show is already taping January 2023 episodes.

One of those robot voice Days review/spoiler channels thinks Will could possibly be leaving the show.

R115, Chase being ruined as a character was JOSH GRIFFITH's doing, not Dena. They were "co-writers," and he made Chase an evil character, while Dena concentrated on Rafe and the NuTeens. JG had Jigsaw Grandpa trying to erase Paul's gayness, so he and Dena have the tin common, at least.

On GH, RonC wrote the grossest story about an Elementary school age "love story" - and, yes, it was written as actual LOVE and desire, not little kids with crushes. Sickening.

At r124, I mean Aiden was ruined by Josh Griffith, not his rapey son, Chase.

If I remember correctly the Josh/Dena collab was just as much a disaster behind the scenes as it was on camera. Apparently, they were constantly at odds. I remember hearing about the Necktie Killer and thinking that we were going to get a classic Days serial killer, but it didn't work out that way. The last thing we needed was another John Black retcon story. They also sort of botched the 50th anniversary of the show. They also botched the Sami/EJ ending. Lots of bad choices during that period.

People may complain about Ron, but it could be oh so much worse.

One of the reasons why Dena was brought back was to put an end to the gay storylines and to get rid of all the gay characters(Will,Sonny,Paul,Derrick) on the show. Which had been getting complaints like about being "immoral", "sickening" and "pornographic", etc...

It would have connected him to Julie, Eli (he would have been Eli's uncle) and David (he would have been David's brother) and Scotty (Scotty's uncle)

And they maybe could have gotten Denise Alexander back for a cameo or something.

I know it's largely forgotten now, but the David/Julie/Susan storyline is basically Julie's origin story. Early Julie was basically the prototype Sami (as Julie acknowledged to Sami years later - and sort of to Eve before that). Julie lied and schemed and slept around. Susan and Julie were plotting against each other for years (think Katherine and Jill on YR) and eventually lead to Doug and Julie.

Retconning John Black as Dickie Martin would have been a great call back to that story. Julie mentioned the story, albeit, briefly during the 50th anniversary.

I understand it's a long forgotten story, but that one retcon, if true, would have tied John Black to the show's beginnings.

She gets a lot of grief around here, but I met Kristian Alfonso in the mid-aughts (worked at her son's school) and she was pretty cool. We had a delightful conversation about the "Good Old DAYS"/1980s. Specifically, that period 1984-1985, when Bo & Hope and Shane & Kim were a foursome, working together & intertwined (Three Prisms, The Dragon, Miami, Baby Andrew).

Things I learned: That was her favorite period of the show -- when Bo & Hope were teamed with Kim & Shane. And they (Kim/Shane) were HER favorite couple/love story. So tortured. She also had a huge crush on Charles Shaughnessy, and said every female on the show did, too. Her exact words: "He was SO DREAMY....and still is!"

CS appeared on SB and Bradford Anderson podcast, will an appearance on MB's show be down the road like his former co-star FOWBF.

They won't recast Will because a Nu actor would probably have to study up some on the character of Will and who would want to possibly deal with certain Days fans on Twitter who would mercilessly attack them for taking on the role. There would also likely post after post here at DL going after the Nu actor.

They could always bring back Guy to play Will.

It was right before the holidays in 1993, and she was in the middle of a heavy storyline with Sarah Michelle Gellar. I wanted Hope and Marlena to have a story like they did for GH Laura's missing years on that show. A secret baby and a husband they left behind. Those stories are always fun. To be honest, they really haven't fleshed out Marlena's missing years other than she carried the gemini twins and she took care of Orpheus' kids for a time.

Doug has a long lost son out there that we've never met, which means Hope has a half brother.

Doug was an anonymous sperm donor in the mid 1970s. Rebecca North, who was nanny to young Hope (I think) got impregnated via artificial insemination. Nobody initially knew that Doug was that father.

Meanwhile, Doug's best friend, Robert LeClair, fell for Rebecca. The two ended up marrying. Robert adopted the baby when she gave birth. They named the baby Dougie after Robert's best friend.

Rebecca ended up dying and Robert eventually learned the truth behind Dougie's paternity, but kept it to himself.

Many years later, Robert told Doug that Dougie was his son, but the show never did anything else with it.

Way back in 1985 on AW, Carl Hutchins terrorized Bay City and tried to kill Mac Cory. He went to prison but about a year later, Carl was pardoned and released from prison.

More recently, Sonny Corinthos went to prison only to be pardoned a couple of months later. I think both Sonny and Julian Jerome were pardonned for some good deed.
