On the Soap Opera Digest podcast last week, Ron was bemoaning the whole cast’s contracts coming up for renewal at once. Seems like a lot of folks are jumping ship.

I don’t understand killing Jake just when his relationship with Ava was getting going. They’re a hot pair.

Apparently, Nu-and-even-GAYER Dr. Rolf's secret project, which surprises Kristen, is resurrecting Stefan. I guess he had them fake out another heart for Julie or something like that.

I think he refused to return in 1997, maybe a conflict with his wife's shooting schedule? I think that's what it was. But he did come back later to play Alex North, who they retconned as Marlena's abusive first husband to whom she was still married, meaning her marriages to Don, Roman, and John had all been invalid.

Wayne was playing Rex Stanton on the just debuted Port Charles in summer 1997 when Days brought Roman back.

Port Charles debuted on June 1, 1997. Roman returned to Days in July 18,1997.

It's not clear on whether they even offered the Roman role back to Wayne or went directly to Josh Taylor. Also not clear on which would have come first -- the offer to play on Port Charles or the potential offer to return as Roman. Shows have different taping schedules.

But obsessively, Wayne wasn't available to play Roman since he was on Port Charles, opposite his wife Lynn.

Josh Taylor isn't a good Roman, but we have seen some truly bad recasts, so I wouldn't say the worst in history.

But when RSW started on the show, Ben was actually turned into a throwaway villain against Chad Dimera. FOWBF was the young leading man not RSW. Ben as the necktie killer was caught in 2015 after killing Strudel Will and was only brought back briefly for the "Will is alive!" storyline in 2017. He only returned to Days full time in June 2018 and got paired with NuCiara, which was his lucky break. Ben was not a popular character until after this. Some fans still hate Ben for everything he did before becoming a part of Cin.

I said this before on here. I like RSW because he seems to know that he's hit the jackpot. He's not one of these actors who is upset that he's doing soaps. Some pretty bad acting in this episode. The actor playing the shooter was so green he didn't even know what to do when he didn't have a line, and his dying scene was laughable. Jake's dying/fainting moment also gave me an inappropriate chuckle. Nubie Jada was pretty bad at delivering her lines and acting shook up. RSW as Alex was okay but that scene with Bonnie was all kind of awkward. There was a bit of rapport with Sonny but it seemed a bit forced. Eric, Rafe and Nicole are of no interest to me, so I don't even bother paying attention to their interaction. Orpheus and Patch were good in their back and forth. I like Ava, but her character has been written into the corner. When she told herself she couldn't be weak, I thought that was exactly the problem with the writing for her during this run... It made her weak!

I liked the introduction of Alex and I thought RSW did a great job of differentiating the characters. Alex and Ben are two totally different people. I notice some people having an issue because he referred to Angelica as is mother. She was his mother and we don't know what their relationship was off screen and knowing Adrienne she would not have stood in the way of him having a relationship with her. Sometimes people bitch just to bitch. The rough trade who shot Jake should have been cast as Joey Johnson. Maybe they'll bring him back as Eric Brady's unknown son or something. He was hot.

Yes, Deidre and Andrea Hall played Marlena and Samantha Evans back in the late 1970s. Show brought Andrea back in May 1982 for the purpose of killing off Samantha, but leading viewers to think it initially was Marlena.

In 2001, show brought Andrea back to play Hattie. She did that for about a year. Since then, whenever they've needed Hattie, Deidre has played her.

Problem is, while Deidre and Andrea did look like identical twins in the 70s, now they don't. Dee's had too much plastic surgery and Andrea's put on a bit of weight. So, now they look like they are related, but not like identical twins.

John thought he was Roman between from 1986-1991.

Hopefully, this isn't the case; maybe that'll only occur if the daily episodes don't fare well. Like others said we all knew this was going to eventually take place, it was a matter of when, not if- though it seems too all of sudden. As someone else stated, they should've given them more time to stage a big cliffhanger that led to the streaming service. It should not go from just some regular free Friday episode on NBC, then leading to the following Monday as a now paid version on an app.

If it ever happens, they'd probably be better off releasing the old stuff year-by-year rather than all at once - not only to gauge demand, but to create more of a "soap opera" feel with an audience who could then discuss "classic Days" as a community of viewers.

B&B went that way with their classic episodes, free as well. .. Bell-Phillip has been releasing enough every week, so viewers can binge a few hours. They're up to 1991 now. The BBC has been doing something like that with EastEnders as well. I also think that's how Retro was handling old episodes of "The Doctors." What was being put on their broadcast channel could then be streamed. They announced that they had to shut the whole digitization project down during COVID,. so stopped showing anything new. They eventually came out and said they wouldn't be putting any of the remaining episodes out until they had they completed digitizing the entire series. I don't know what the status of that is. I think they had about three years left to do.

I don't think Gwen is the killer, either; it just seems a little too cut and dry. I think she did escape Statesville that night, and in her Sarah mask, headed to the DiMera mansion to kill her by framing Sarah, however Abigail was either already dead when Gwen got there, or she saw who actually did it. I wouldn't put it past Ron to have either someone else in a Sarah mask as the killer (was there another mask?) or Thomas lol (which is so funny to me, because outside of here, I haven't seen anyone else who suspects him). Other than that, I still think it could be Tony DiMera.
