Trump Lashes Out At January 6th Committee 'Thugs' For Coming After Him

"Senator Graham plans to go to court, challenge the subpoena, and expects to prevail," Daniel and Austin said, according to CNN.
"This is all politics. Fulton County is engaged in a fishing expedition and working in concert with the January 6 Committee in Washington. Any information from an interview or deposition with Senator Graham would immediately be shared with the January 6 Committee."
Graham's lawyers said at the time Graham was chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was "well within his right to discuss with state officials the processes and procedures around administering elections."
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Wednesday rejected Graham's argument that politics have anything to do with the grand jury investigation.
"[Graham] doesn't understand the seriousness of what we're doing," Willis told NBC News.

Part of the problem before, r16/FCI, was there wasn't much discussion going on and there'd be a series of links from one poster that DL would read as spam and the thread got pw-ed. At least I think that was part of the problem

r28, and yet Velshi talked to Nicolle's husband, and they talked about the IRS Commissioner being held over by Biden.
Velshi never broached the fact that IRS is nested in the TREASURY Department, and the Treasury Secretary at the time was Mnuchin. Evil, grifter Mnuchin. Are you telling me that it was not possible for Mnuchin to find a Trumper in the Department, directly, without going to the IRS Commissioner? Wasn't there a whole Treasury cadre protecting TRUMP'S tax returns? Mnuchin would have been very cognizant of whom these people were. Getting a Trump functionary to press the buttons on IRS audits would have been easy-peasy.
Or was Nicolle's husband simply holding back?

^He was committing classic conspiracy extortion: "find" me the votes I need to win. He had an exact number that he wanted found, he reiterated it several times. He also threatened Raffsenperger with criminal prosecution for malfeasance if he didn't do what Trump wanted him to do, the *way* Trump wanted it done. It is classic extortion. "An offer he can't refuse" kind of talk. He was threatening a State official to induce compliance with a crooked scheme. Trump has been doing this kind of thing for decades, it's obvious in his manner of speaking to these people. His call to Zelensky was couched in EXACTLY the same term: You "find" dirt on the Bidens and I will in return actually GIVE you the financial aid (which the Congress had already authorized and which Shitler had NO LEGAL AUTHORITY to withhold or even hinder). And the beauty part is that the entire act of extortion is recorded on tape, it's OVER ONE HOUR long, and there were NUMEROUS witnesses on the call. I don't care if he goes to jail, but Yes, he needs to be indicted and convicted for this. It's an open and shut case. Could I please have a hamberder and an extra-large covefe?? With LOTS of ketchup.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 7, 2022 11:03 AM |
^Oh yeah, one more point about that "perfect" call: they had to attempt to get Raffsenperger on the phone EIGHTEEN times in order to have this conversation, because R had been steadfastly avoiding talking to them. Eighteen fucking attempts to tell him what they wanted him to hear. Let that sink in.

Scabrous, vicious, and hilarious article in The Atlantic online about Mark Meadows and Lindsey Graham, as Shitler's most determined sycophants. Called "The Most Pathetic Men in America." It's a MUST-read for all DataLoungettes:
"Consider again the doormat duo—McCarthy and Graham. I’ve known both men for years, at least in the weird sense that political reporters and pols “know” each other. They are a classically Washington type: fun to be around, starstruck, and desperate to keep their jobs or get better ones—to maximize their place in the all-important mix. On various occasions I have asked them, in so many words, how they could sidle up to Trump like they have. The answer, basically, is that they did it because it was the savviest course; because it was best for them. If Trump had one well-developed intuition, it was his ability to sniff out weakness in people—and, I suppose, in major political parties. Nearly all elected Republicans in Washington needed Trump’s blessing, and voters, to remain there. People like McCarthy and Graham benefited a great deal from making it work with Trump, or “managing the relationship,” as they say."

The "news" about Shitler waiving some claim of executive privilege re Bannon is utter and complete bullshit, unless someone has already convinced him that he has no hope of getting away with invoking it in the first place. We ALL know that. He will try to keep Bannon from talking; and if he's ruled against ( which seems a foregone conclusion) he will appeal to any courts that he has a right to turn to, all in order simply to delay, delay, delay the process. That has been his modus operandi in every court case he has been involved, since way before he became Prezidunt.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 9, 2022 12:00 AM |
It may be a tactic to keep Bannon from being prosecuted for defying a subpoena from the 1/06 committee. Bannon goes to the committee, answers very few questions, and pleads the 5th to most questions.
Since Bannon showed, Meadows drops the charges.
There’s no certainty Meadows will prosecute, on anything, any of the major planners and organizers of the insurrection. That’s what is most unsettling.

Trump's attorney has stated in writing that Donnie *never* invoked any kind of privilege re Steve Bannon's testimony before Congress, and in fact urged Bannon to testify, "to set the record straight." LOL... Bannon knew it, his attorney knew it, and they both have intentionally misled Congress on this score until this was revealed LAST NIGHT, on the eve of the start of Bannon's contempt of Congress trial. I don't think the reason Pence didn't get in the car was that he feared for his life. His fear was they were gonna drive him some place else, perhaps fly him to Alaska, thus preventing him from officiating the election. We have enough drama as it is, no need to create more.
Ironically, had Pence gotten in the car, the coup might have been successful (without Pence there to do his job) and Pence might still be "Vice President".

Why is WI or PA or VA considered purple states? But MT isn’t? Or for that matter MA? MA has had a R Senator recently and has elected (why?) R Govs for a long time. Yet it is never considered purple. MT has had D Senators and elects D Govs. Yet it is never considered purple.
WI and PA have only voted R for prez ONE time in over 30 years yet they are considered purple states. Both have D Govs and one D Senator. VA, also, has had a string of D Govs, voted D for prez since ‘08, and has D Senators.
I’m just irritated tonight and need this to make sense because my Masters in Poli Sci can’t make sense of this.

"MA has had a R Senator recently and has elected (why?) R Govs for a long time."
The Republican senator won a special election because of low turnout....his ass got tossed out once he faced the regular electorate. Mass always votes D in Presidential Elections. by Anonymous | reply 238 | July 15, 2022 3:29 AM |
R237 You made my point. MT was won by Clinton while having two D Senators and then electing D Govs. WI and PA haven’t voted R for prez in 30 years except one time and barely yet they are considered purple. It makes no sense. So, in 30+ years, MT, PA, and WI voted for the party one time for prez which they normally don’t yet only PA and WI are called purple. I’ve even heard pundits make this point and the R pundit makes the point of “well they vote R or Gov or Senator.” It is just frustrating.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | July 15, 2022 3:44 AM |
Part of the reason why PA and WI might be considered purple is because they have Republican state legislatures (though that's mostly due to gerrymandering)

R240 exactly so that should be taken into consideration.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | July 15, 2022 4:09 AM |
R228 r229. Perspectives on the motives for fear is not unnecessary drama. Pence heard the chants, went through the pressure from Trump for days not to certify the vote, fretted about it, the gallows were shown on TV, knew rioters were in the hallway as he was being exited to the basement. Pence also knew there were Republican legislators in the building who had a hand in the insurrection and others at least supporting it. His staff knew there was depth to the threat. Certainly Pence, whose family was also there, would question each circumstance, including the limo scenario. Perhaps the hearings will reveal more about this. I don’t believe he trusted where he would transported and he felt safe in this regard.
Pence did the formality of certifying the vote. Beyond that, he was months late in declaring Trump was wrong. And that was tied to his current political ambitions.

He's made nothing but poor choices his entire life and as a result lives in fragile health on SSDI, smoking pot, drinking beer, and watching porn while believing right wing lies all day. He is a seriously depressed and depressing dude, impotently proud boy adjacent.
We simply cannot turn over this country to these creeps who care for nothing but cheating to indulge their rampant greed and hypocrisy, like the trumps, or nursing their rage like my sad sack cousin.
I never thought I'd live to see the day when so many evil stupid people would conspire to destroy our democracy to turn it over to obscenely rich autocrats. You can just look at the photos marking Ivana's death chronicling years of luxurious living garnered from cheating the suckers to maintain their lifestyles. Disgusting.

Yes, R269, but also this 18 seconds of attitude by one of the worst ever examples of American Exceptionalism.
Your cousin, R268, knows in his heart that the only way he will ever have even a glimmer of a chance of getting ahead is but supporting a system that categorically puts other people behind him. Therein, he/they have outright contempt and childish--childlike--belligerence to anyone telling them what to do. It's an outright blinding selfishness.
(Also, take note of the overly simplistic and pandering whiteness of the bobblehead he's talking to. Fully half of her qualifications are her genetic lack of melanin.)

R269, when younger my cousin married a very pretty Mexican immigrant and she later divorced him (don't know if she was documented or not). At that point he was employed and owned a home. He lost the home and much of his money to her. That could be part of the source of his resentment. Perhaps she married him for the green card and he felt used. But he's a sucker that way. He never married again and never got over his bitterness.

The GQP is the party of white grievance. Fat Donnie has nursed his own set of grievances his entire life.
He and the idiot losers who support him are nothing more than frightened white men (and women) who fear change.
They vote to inflict pain on other people thinking THEY will never lose THEIR SSDI, Medicaid, food stamps, section 8 housing vouchers or anything else because they’re white.
Then when it happens to them, they scream and howl. “I never thought face eating leopards would eat MY face!” Said the white woman who voted for the Leopards Eating Peoples Faces Party.
by Anonymous | reply 287 | July 17, 2022 4:53 PM |
If GQP takes control of the Presidency, House, and Senate in 2024, say goodbye to Social Security benefits, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act. There will be cuts in Medicaid, VA benefits, HUD funds, EPA funds, etc. Increased military funding, more deregulation for environmental matters, banking, and other corporate behavior. Another huge tax cut for the wealthy. Federal lands get drilled and sold-off cheaply to developers. MAGAs will blame Democrats for the causes.

[quote]Because she is trying to compel testimony from people who live outside of Georgia, Willis had to submit petitions for a judge’s approval. The judge overseeing the special grand jury signed off on her petitions. A judge in Graham's home state will determine whether he is a “material and necessary witness,” whether the trip to Atlanta to testify would be an undue burden and whether the subpoena should be issued. The case was initially assigned to U.S. District Judge Timothy M. Cain, who was Graham's law partner back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The case was reassigned Wednesday to U.S. District Judge Henry Herlong Jr., who ruled that the subpoena can't be executed for the time being and scheduled a hearing for next Wednesday.
Graham’s SC lawyers certainly are pursing a “friendly” venue.
Why is not a federal court judge that covers the district that includes Atlanta? But, the SC judge agreed to a stay off the subpoena and hear the appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | July 17, 2022 6:08 PM |
Georgia and South Carolina are in different Federal Judicial Circuits. The Eleventh Circuit includes GA, AL, and FL. That's just how it is. Graham is "in" SC, and so one has to have enforcement capability to go and get him if he doesn't abide by the Court's order. Officers in GA have no authority to do anything in SC; if an order is issued in SC, officers there can legally arrest and deliver Graham to the courthouse (or jail) in Atlanta. I don't see how Graham can reasonably expect to avoid having to give this testimony. It is apparent on its face that he was attempting to meddle in GA's electoral process, beyond whatever he might or might not say about Shitler's being behind it all. Graham is potentially guilty of the commission of a felony. If he needs to plead the Fifth, get him up on the stand and let's do it, Miz Lindzy.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | July 17, 2022 6:17 PM |
^And IF it were just a matter of the giving of a deposition, it would be reasonable (maybe) for a Senator to be deposed "at home" in SC, the GA prosecutors could go to his home state. But this does not apply to Grand Jury proceedings, you are not going to haul a grand jury panel 200 miles to hear his testimony. He has to go to them, as a matter of practicality.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | July 17, 2022 6:20 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 295 | July 17, 2022 6:46 PM |
One of Graham’s claims is that it would be an “undue burden” to travel to Atlanta. He travels constantly. He was in the Middle East last week for photo- ops with U.S. military personnel. He’s often in south Florida with Trump. That’s not a senatorial duty.
by Anonymous | reply 296 | July 17, 2022 11:24 PM |

Don't sleep with, er, I mean, sleep on, Tom Cotton. I'm convinced it's a mistake to underestimate him.
I know, over the years, he's been discounted by many here on his chances of being the Repug Nominee to be the POTUS.
That's comforted me somewhat, but I've been keeping a wary eye on that snake-in-the-grass since he undermined, in a particularly nasty way, Obama.
Cotton has sold his soul to Satan. He wants to be the President so badly.
He's been smart. He's deliberately kept a very low profile; off everybody's, mostly Trump's, radar.
He now he can look at how Hawley made himself a world laughing-stock and it has confirmed to him the wisdom of his strategy.
And yes, I think Cotton is tougher and smarter than De Santis. His discipline in resisting any grandstanding throughout the treason and insurrection is deliberate and noteworthy.
Again, he's deploying the classic tactics of a Snake in the Grass, patiently waiting to silently pounce when its prey ventures into its territory.
And Cotton is one hungry snake. He scares me.

R404 Closeted MtF trans voting “no” is no surprise. Declaring oneself “a lady” (G) in the company of rent boys and gentleman callers, and dressing accordingly in those settings alone, sounds closeted trans. One declares repeatedly “I’m not gay”, but identifies as a “lady” when not at work and uncontrolled public settings, certainly is not identifying as a straight male during those moments.

It could mean that, in the various Trump legal proceedings, it could be difficult to get to a guilty verdict even if Department of Justice prosecutors or others are brave enough to indict. My psychotherapist friend suggests this would be a matter of cognitive dissonance, but I always prefer to go back to the old line: Who you gonna believe, me or your lyin’ eyes? We could agree, however, that this would be the ultimate test of Trump’s long-ago thesis that he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote. “It’s, like, incredible,” he said during the 2016 campaign.

"Great progressives" need to learn to "grow where they're planted" and broaden the bench instead of always trying to start at the top.
I saw a little while ago where Cori Bush wouldn't say whether she'd support President Biden in '24--another example of perfect being the enemy of good. In 2016 progressives instead on all or nothing and we ended up with LESS than nothing, teetering on the edge of disaster that at minimum will take us generations to fix.
I don't care how good she is, she would never be able to be as effective as Maloney who is in senior leadership. Is the establishment, old white guy always the best option? Absolutely not. But just take a look at how many bills AOC has passed in the 3.5 years since she took out the King of Queens and assumed his seat.
I don't know her but I'll say this: people who truly want to effect change will find means to do so. Hopefully this is true of Biaggi and she understands what it means to have a calling and not just to want amorphous ideals.

From reporters Carol D. Leonnig, Devlin Barrett, Josh Dawsey and Spencer S. Hsu:
The Justice Department is investigating President Donald Trump’s actions as part of its criminal probe of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Prosecutors who are questioning witnesses before a grand jury — including two top aides to Vice President Mike Pence — have asked in recent days about conversations with Trump, his lawyers, and others in his inner circle who sought to substitute Trump allies for certified electors from some states Joe Biden won, according to two people familiar with the matter. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.
The prosecutors have asked hours of detailed questions about meetings Trump led in December 2020 and January 2021; his pressure campaign on Pence to overturn the election; and what instructions Trump gave his lawyers and advisers about fake electors and sending electors back to the states, the people said. Some of the questions focused directly on the extent of Trump’s involvement in the fake-elector effort led by his outside lawyers, including John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, these people said.
In addition, Justice Department investigators in April received phone records of key officials and aides in the Trump administration, including his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, according to two people familiar with the matter. That effort is another indicator of how expansive the Jan. 6 probe had become, well before the high-profile, televised House hearings in June and July on the subject.
The Washington Post and other news organizations have previously written that the Justice Department is examining the conduct of Eastman, Giuliani and others in Trump’s orbit. But the degree of prosecutors’ interest in Trump’s actions has not been previously reported, nor has the review of senior Trump aides’ phone records.
A Trump spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Justice Department spokesman and a lawyer for Meadows both declined to comment.

That’s the least of his issues. He has openly talked against the entire concept of liberal democracy and replacing it with Christian democracy. He’s a fascist through and through

Remember, r521, the Russians hack the RNC server as well back in 2016. We never got to see THOSE emails, only Podesta’s emails.
The RNC knows what was in those emails and so does fat Donnie. If the RNC refuses to pay up, those emails may might start leaking.
I didn’t forget about those emails. I want to see those RNC emails. They would be very enlightening. And damning.

Lindsey Graham’s Email was hacked by the same Russian operatives at the time. Why him in particular?
Not much has been said about it. They hack to garner intelligence, determine contacts, or gain private revelations to use as potential blackmail.

What the Russians have on Miss Lindz was conveyed to her - via Trump - during a day on a golf course. I can’t remember the exact day, but she changed her tune right after their game.

Graham is an odd duck. He wasn’t much critical of Trump’s complete deference to Putin. Yet, he is very hawkish in policies toward Russia. When Russia invaded Ukraine again, he called for the dictator’s assassination. However, when Trump was bashing NATO and withheld approved funds for Ukraine, Graham wasn’t criticizing Trump. Graham flows with whatever political winds he sees as benefiting himself. It brings into question the authenticity of his real beliefs.
