Where I live in CA small city, there haven't been any new cases of covid for a month. I got my first booster a couple of days ago. I think Covid will be endemic and mild as cold from now on. Last Thursday a friend of mine died. She had been suffering with what she thought was a long covid. She lost the ability to smell or taste anything and had brain fog, anxiety, and paranoia for a year. then she started to have problems talking and walking. They did a brain scan and it turned out to be an aggressive malignant brain tumor. They tried to do a biopsy and she had a brain bleed and never woke up.

Man gets painful, drug-resistant ‘super gonorrhea’ on international vacation
An Austrian man reportedly caught a new drug-resistant strain of the sexually transmitted disease after having relations with a sex worker in Cambodia.
According to the World Health Organization, ”super gonorrhea” refers to a strain that has a high level of resistance to currently recommended treatments.
If multidrug-resistant strains of gonorrhea start to spread, many cases of the STD might become untreatable.
A report published last week in Eurosurveillance warned that the new strain could pose a “major global public health threat,” according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
The report detailed that the man in his 50s had unprotected sex with a female sex worker in Cambodia in April 2022 and, five days later, he experienced pain while urinating and witnessed a discharge coming out of his penis.
He was given antibiotics, which resolved the symptoms, but more testing still showed a positive result, so he was further treated with an antibiotic containing penicillin called co-amoxiclav.
According to the Mayo Clinic, if left untreated, gonorrhea can cause infertility in both women and men, can increase the risk of HIV/AIDS or could spread to the joints and other areas of the body.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, gonorrhea is one of the most commonly reported sexually transmitted infections in the United States.
The CDC estimates one in five people in the US has a sexually transmitted infection.

There're obviously a lot of gay men at my gym and we use the same equipment and facilities. I'm surprised you can get it by touching a towel or clothing from an infected person. Well, I also noticed that it was DRENCHED in his sweat, and the little tramp couldn't be bothered to wipe it down. I then saw him race to the locker room for god knows what in the steam room. Now you can't tell me that the next person to use bench press isn't at risk for contracting mpox from the little hussy's sweat if he did have the disease.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 22, 2022 1:57 PM |
R77 Reading through the limited studies since the outbreak began I haven't seen a single case that has not been spread through prolonged direct physical contact. it's probably also important to note that the cases in Europe and America have presented differently than the cases in Africa. Perhaps a different strain? The ones in Europe in America are manifesting in ways the STDs usually do. Lesions on genitals and in the rectum. Spread almost exclusively with sexual activity.

The Centers for Disease Control and Florida health officials are warning of a “historic” meningococcal outbreak among gay and bisexual men that has killed seven and severely sickened 24 others.
The alarming surge in cases had led the CDC to recommend vaccines for all gay and bisexual men in the Sunshine State.
The agency characterized the ongoing transmissions “as one of the worst outbreaks of meningococcal disease among gay and bisexual men in US history.”
The bacteria can spread through saliva and transmission requires close contact, health officials said.
Kissing or being near an infected party that coughs can cause an infection.
“Meningococcal disease can affect anyone and can be deadly and includes infections of the lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) and bloodstream,” the CDC said in a statement.

Just when I got over my sex paranoia from growing up during AIDS, there’s this. I’ve always been an oral only guy - habit picked up from the AIDS era. But sounds like this is literally just touching the skin? Doesn’t quite make sense. It’s not semen - just touch? And then it apparently shows up in genital area - which seems like it would require genital to genital connection.
The Guardian had an article today about how our fear of giving fodder to the right wing vultures has inhibited discussion of this. Between Covid and this, it’s like growing up in the AIDS era was training for like in the 21st century.

New York City began offering vaccination against monkeypox to at-risk groups on Thursday, as authorities scramble to contain a global outbreak.
But demand was so high, within hours of launching the program the city had to cut off walk-in appointments, and scheduled visits were already booked through early next week.

Ask Tim Hickernell how he's doing and the New York City man will tell you he has "seen better days" as he works to recover from a bout of monkeypox, a rare disease usually confined to Africa that is now seeing its largest-ever outbreak in the United States.
The actor is one of at least 30 people who have tested positive for the virus in New York City since early May. Almost all of the NYC cases, which represent more than 20% of the total diagnosed nationwide in the latest outbreak, involve men having sex with men.

Do you use condoms for blowjobs R96? Condoms for handjobs? Dental dams for rimming or kissing? Because if you don’t I’ve got bad news for you, it’s the exact same as not using a condom for anal sex as regards transmitting or contracting a bacterial or viral STD (HIV obviously not included because of PREP). I swear some of you are so stupid 😭

Is there any chance that this filthy disease will be a wake-up call for those who need one? Is being a PNP participant ie, sex addict, really so rewarding that it is worth these monumental risks? Being treated for a systemic bacterial or viral infection does not mean you come out as good as new. There are residual effects on your body, the least of which is increased resistance to the treatments in future.

Slut shaming aside, condoms, or not, this virus would still be spreading on account of the close contact of the men alone. The only difference may be that the pox usually do not present in and around the anus and genital area.
The men have lesions on hands, mouths, chin, entire faces, arms, trunk, and legs. It isn't only confined to erogenous zones.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | June 24, 2022 12:58 PM |
^I think the problem is that most people are already infectious long before they have lesions on hands, mouths, arms etc. WTF would have sex or make out with someone who has bloody lesions all over their body?
A scientist discussed that we could still stop the spread if high-risk-groups were abstinent for a couple of months, immediately ban high-risk events and close locations and simultaneously vax high-risk groups. Of course this won't happen. Gay rights groups would scream discrimination and people will never voluntarily change their behavior.

I got mine in Toronto last Thursday. Hopefully the campaign there will go some way to interrupting the spread. Pride was this weekend. There were similar campaigns in Ottawa and Montreal. Montreal was the epicentre. Ottawa gays will go to Montreal Pride. Montrealers and Torontonians shuttle between Prides during the month. It's not just whoring, but gathering close. Breathing, skin-to-skin... get a bunch of shirtless guys in a thumpa thumpa techno trance streaming dance party happening and you could spread it there too.
Out of the gate, there was so much hand wringing about shaming, instead of acknowledging given the chance, most gays gonna fuck. And its June. They should have got out in front of this but inclusion and all that malarky probably caused a lot of pointless delay, but that's public health for you. I don't think there are many firm, decisive, realistic leaders in public health... a bunch of do gooders. Which is great. If things are good.

by Anonymous | reply 187 | June 27, 2022 1:10 PM |
Scientists said the latest strain of monkeypox, once previously confined to parts of Africa, has about 50 genetic variations compared to related viruses that circulated in 2018-2019. They found the virus is continuing to evolve during the current outbreak, including a number of small changes in the genetic code, minor gene variants and a deleted gene, according to a study published in Nature Medicine on Friday.
In the past, monkeypox hasn’t spread easily from person to person. It’s still unclear how the mutations seen in the current monkeypox virus might change any of those attributes, or the severity of the disease it causes.

I can't say for sure he paid the guy. Mind you, I have suspected that he's hired in the past. Well, just this past Christmas Eve, he hosted a great-looking fella in his unit for two and a half hours, and I suspected back then that he was a rentboy. Back in December, all we had to worry about was Covid. Now we have mpox on top of that, and that little hussy's continual hooking up with guys from grindr and quite possibly rentboys is making him and the entire complex vulnerable to mpox. Heavens to Betsy, I don't know what I'd do if I were to contract it from common area such as the laundry room.

"Persons with monkeypox should wear a well-fitting mask or respirator, especially those who have respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath, sore throat) or significant oral lesions if close contact with others cannot be avoided (e.g., when obtaining medical care). Other household members should wear a well-fitting mask or respirator when in the presence of the person with monkeypox."

R217, based on my experience in Toronto I had to fill in a registration with my name and address etc. and provide my Ontario health card number. They track vaccine delivery carefully everywhere, mostly to understand adverse events and contribute to the research on the medication in question.
We don't have the undocumented populations that the states have so there may not be provision for undocumented - it isn't a big population and would be even smaller if your risk category is gay men. During COVID there was a no questions asked policy but it's not the default and takes the direction of the provincial system.
I don't say it's impossible but it does seem unlikely, especially given the quantities of vaccine available (which are low). Remember, during COVID the U.S. had tons of vaccine but wasn't rushing to share internationally in the early going and understandably so. Quid pro quo.
The best advice I can give you would be to call the public health unit in either Toronto or Montreal and ask if they will vaccinate Americans. Montreal had a very liberal eligibility threshold but I don't know if that would apply to foreigners. Toronto, as usual, just sort of stumbles along earnestly and marginally effectively.

Great. Now it's contaminated surfaces. A couple of days ago you could apparently only get it via close contact and bodily fluids. I would advise anyone to be very careful at the gym and use disinfectant on equipment and regularly sanitize your hands. Bring your own bottle of hand sanitizer and use your own towels. Do not use the sauna and shower at home. Stay away from group workouts with large groups. Scientists advice infected persons to wear face masks so I guess there is a possibility you can get the virus via droplets infection.

To my surprise I gave up all my whoring in the first lockdown of 2020. Having been a good looking whore of Babylon for several decades, it really was time to retire from the game, and there had been diminishing returns after 2010, anyway. I can truly say I have had sufficient in my life. (extreme excess)

r226 That's what I have been doing since the beginning of 2020 anyway. Even if I'm vaccinated, as a clean freak, I just don't want to touch or inhale disgusting things that come out of other people's (not clean) bodies.

Well, I was driving back from the market a little while earlier, and when I stopped for a light, I saw my neighbor enter the path toward the wooded area where men hook up. At first I wasn't certain, so I circled back around into the parking lot to look for his car, just to make sure, and there it was. It was indeed him. Well, I saw him arrive home two hours later, and I can only imagine the number of loads he took during that time, and how much contact he might've had with mp-infected skin. I saw him a little while ago in the trash room. He gave me a hello in his usual arrogant tone, which always seems to telegraph "I wouldn't fuck you if you were the last man on earth". I just walked by, didn't respond, and didn't make eye contact. If he did contract mp, I hope the little tramp has the good sense to isolate in his apartment. Serves him right!

by Anonymous | reply 241 | June 29, 2022 4:46 AM |
r239, yes we do share a laundry room. Is he is a danger to my complex? I'm torn as to whether or not I should warn the neighbors. On one hand, they need to be aware that their health and that of their children could be in immediate peril. On the other hand, if I were to tell them what this little hussy's been up to, he'll be branded a tramp, forced to wear a red "T" on his shirt. And believe me, no one is going to mistake that "T" as standing for "Top." Decisions, decisions. Didn't Miss Miriam Hopkins play a character with the same dilemma in one of her later motion pictures?

by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 29, 2022 2:36 PM |
R250 I'd hazard a guess that there can be, and there probably is vaccine breakthrough transmission. . The US service member at the base in Germany had been vaccinated against Smallpox.
I'm also wondering if older vaccinated men could possibly be spreading pox as carriers, without the blisters.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | June 29, 2022 2:40 PM |
R250, who knows? but smallpox survivors are known to have lifelong protection from reinfection.
Smallpox vaccination provides full immunity for 3 to 5 years and decreasing immunity thereafter. If a person is vaccinated again later, immunity lasts even longer. Historically, the vaccine has been effective in preventing smallpox infection in 95% of those vaccinated.

R244, in West Africa, the virus has circulated in households where families are caring for an infected person. It’s either assumed or been proven that caregivers get infected by touching the bedding of the infected person, who usually has open lesions, they’ve touched cloth that has infected material from the lesions on it. Because of this, people have been warned about infection via clothing or bedding. However, I don’t think there’s evidence of the virus being transmitted that way in the West, because anyone with open, weeping lesions is headed to the ER.

If this is true and you were vaccinated in the early 70s, your immunity is probably close to zero. But enjoy the hot young dick while you can. The weeks after your monkey pox infection will be gruesome.

40 sex partners last year, 10 sex partners in the last 90 days
History of several Sexual Transmitted Diseases including chlamydia and gonorrhea, currently infected with chlamydia (and monkeypox)
Does not use condoms.
Still attended sex parties and had unprotected sex even though he was infected with a STI.
The sex partner also had a history of random sex with several partners, a history of STIs and not using condoms.
Hard to feel sorry for these people when they're so careless with their own health or the health of their partners.

I don't live in a city where the gay population is high or densely packed into bars and gyms, but I think I'd be concerned if I did. I do think this is a situation where the existing vaccines need to be given out and quickly. People are already coming out of a period in which their ability to mingle freely was drastically curtailed. The logical thing to do is rapid vaccination of the most susceptible population to nip the spread of this disease in the bud. Depending on self-monitoring and self-disciplined avoidance of sex and gay environments for an unknown amount of time into the future is simply unrealistic and will not be successful.

by Anonymous | reply 309 | July 1, 2022 2:54 PM |
r306 that would be ideal but as we could see during the onset of Covid its takes forever for the government to roll out large scale vaccinations. We were about 10 months into the Covid pandemic before the first vaccines got distributed to high risk individuals, at that was a global pandemic.
Unfortunately the high risk in this case aren't elderly, women or children, so everyone will drag their ass. They will just continue telling people with symptoms to stay at home which we know isn't going to do shit. At my estimation it will be next year some time before the vaccine is widely available and Im sure a large amount of the gay population will already have gotten it by then.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | July 1, 2022 3:32 PM |

I actually have little patience for all this talk about ‘stigmatising’ gay men. Being pragmatic and honest about what’s clear form the statistics is not stigmatising, and it works both ways. Gay men should refuse to be stigmatised, but that comes with taking responsibility for sexual practices that are highly normalised within gay culture and which allow diseases such as this to spread.

r311 I didn't forget; the fact that we already have the vaccine makes it even worse. The point I'm making is that the healthcare community needs a full blown crisis to really take action and even then they still take too long. Telling people with symptoms to stay at home is NOT enough.
This article was also posted here, about a man who saw several specialists and visited the ER (where he was told he might have colon cancer!) All of them failed to test him. Only by chance did he connected with an activist who found him a doctor who got off their precious ass to finally order a monkeypox test. Monkeypox being touted as a “gay” disease means the public (in the US, at least) won’t care.
The same way everyone tried to avoid COVID-19 until the reports that Blacks and Latinos were more likely to be hospitalized became public. Immediately afterwards, the clamors to return to normal kicked up.
Until someone that doesn’t identify as a gay/bi male gets monkeypox, very little will be done.

People had been in line for 3hrs before it opened and they didn’t bother to tell anyone they had no plans to do the clinic even though they knew they weren’t going to vaccinate anyone, and then sent out one person (who wasn’t a doctor) to tell everyone to leave with absolutely no info. R330 yes very frustrating! The craziest part was that, a bunch of ppl hung around afterwards, and then they eventually sent out one guy who agreed to take names of people who had a confirmed infectious contact, and a doctor would call you with (?) information. To prove this you had to provide the name of your contact and they were going to check them off the list of people that had reported to the public health department. Couple of people raised very valid points that they had contacts that had all the symptoms but hadn’t seen a doctor (uninsured / embarrassed / not gotten around to it yet) or some people had had an anonymous person reach out (via a friend) and the guy was basically saying that if that was the case then you were shit out of luck. Like…..wtf.

by Anonymous | reply 346 | July 1, 2022 11:14 PM |
r337 It's a myth that that smallpox shot you got ages ago is going to do anything against monkeypox today. It's simply not effective anymore. What is effective is getting another smallpox shot.
[quote]But because the smallpox vaccine eradicated the disease, routine smallpox immunization for the general population ended in Canada in 1972. Hoption Cann said this means that any Canadian who was vaccinated against smallpox was inoculated more than 50 years ago. "It is likely that, after 50 or more years, that vaccination may not offer too much protection against this disease," he said.

R344 / R308 what your quoted poster R304 forgot to include / didn’t include on purpose was that the patient is on prep and that he didn’t know he had an STI when he had sex with others (it was diagnosed alongside his monkeypox diagnosis (for which duration he pledged to abstain from sex (ethical))).
These are ethical sex precautions. I hope that makes you feel better but something tells me your lost opportunity to judge someone will make you feel even worse.
In fact the least ethical aspect of it is the original posters muddying of the facts and misrepresentation of the case.

From R353: CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Vaccinia elicits antiviral antibody levels and virus neutralizing activity that remain elevated for the life of the patient.
Multiple vaccinations achieve only marginally higher levels of antibody and virus neutralizing activity than single vaccination.
Levels of antibodies and virus neutralizing activity are comparable in vaccinated individuals and those who developed smallpox and recovered.
Vaccinia should be used first on individuals who have never been vaccinated before.

"Patients reported less fever and tiredness and more skin lesions in their genital and anal areas than typically seen in monkeypox, the study of 54 patients at London sexual health clinics in May this year found.
The research from London, published in the Lancet Infectious Diseases Journal, follows suggestions from public health bodies like the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the outbreak - which is spreading chiefly among men who have sex with men – is presenting unusually.
The authors, from a number of institutions including Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said case definitions should be reviewed to avoid cases being overlooked, particularly as monkeypox can “mimic” other common sexually transmitted infections (STI) like herpes and syphilis. The study also found that a quarter of the monkeypox patients were HIV positive, and a quarter had another STI."

by Anonymous | reply 375 | July 2, 2022 1:32 PM |
A couple weeks ago I read that transmission did not require physical contact, although skin-to-skin was driving most infections. Since then, I have rarely seen this mentioned.
Now we’re seeing exponential growth and a scramble to “do something” after reassurance that most have no reason to worry, which is giving deja vu.
Smallpox is closely related and its vaccine is effective: Doesn’t it stand to follow that routes of transmission are more alike than not?
“Before smallpox was eradicated, it was mainly spread by direct and fairly prolonged face-to-face contact between people. Smallpox patients became contagious once the first sores appeared in their mouth and throat (early rash stage). They spread the virus when they coughed or sneezed and droplets from their nose or mouth spread to other people. They remained contagious until their last smallpox scab fell off.
These scabs and the fluid found in the patient’s sores also contained the variola virus. The virus can spread through these materials or through the objects contaminated by them, such as bedding or clothing. People who cared for smallpox patients and washed their bedding or clothing had to wear gloves and take care to not get infected.
Rarely, smallpox has spread through the air in enclosed settings, such as a building (airborne route)”.
🧐
Forgive my reluctance to believe public health agencies when they tell me not to worry and downplay potential routes of transmission.

No U.S. company owns the vaccine; it's made in Denmark, and the Denmark company's production facility has been closed since August, due to COVID and supply chain issues. Ultimately the U.S. will get two million vaccines and the rest of the world will have to tide itself over with the rest of the current supply, about three million vaccines.

I would be surprised if there are any over 50 or 60 that lived through the AIDS era.
by Anonymous | reply 433 | July 3, 2022 2:23 PM |
The sequence of infection starts with lesions in the mouth and you're not contagious until that phase starts. If you don't have many you could easily write it off as a canker or a tongue bite. So blow jobs and rimming have to be part of the route of transmission in our ranks. Plus with PrEP we fuck like crazy without condoms.
Still, there's only six thousand cases in the whole world so hopefully they can still ringfence it meaningfully. The sex positive probably can't be saved unless they are smart enough to get vaccinated and vaccine is available to them. The rest of us, dial back sex with people you don't know, with younger guys and older guys who can still pass for attractive, crowd scenes like FI and P-town and hiring sex workers. It's probably another lost summer. Oh, well.. it's that or a thousand knives in your urethra.

Yes, dim lighting is a major contributor to the spread of monkeypox. If the lighting were better, spread would be reduced. You wouldn't have to add it to the list of other STDs you routinely ask your trick about, just look carefully in the good lighting.

by Anonymous | reply 439 | July 3, 2022 3:03 PM |
It doesn't, R439, but we have so much sex we're far more effective at spreading either STIs or diseases where skin contact is a mode of transmission. So it's the same as straights, but with them you go to the counter, with us you use the drive thru.

What is “AIDS” r340?
by Anonymous | reply 442 | July 3, 2022 3:31 PM |
[quote] Did this community learn nothing from AIDS?
R430 if you look up the pretty great take up of PREP within the gay community you’ll see that actually the community has learned a lot from AIDS. If PREP is made available to everyone that wants or needs it then HIV AIDS can be made a thing of the past.
It’s kinda dumb to live your life based on the premise that there’s another undiscovered disease spreading through the gay community that spreads exactly like HIV does because that’s extremely unlikely. Question for you, do you use condoms for blowjobs with partners? STDs spread in many different ways (skin contact, kissing, any kind of oral sex, rimming, anal sex) so acting like condoms are the only respectable form of protection is kinda stupid.
Also why shouldn’t someone be able to center a certain time in their lives around sexual pleasure. Most of us go through a phase at some part of our lives where sexual pleasure is near the top of our priorities - what’s so wrong with that?
by Anonymous | reply 443 | July 3, 2022 5:18 PM |
I hope I'm not acting stupid when I ask if there's a better barrier than condoms for limiting exposure to pathogens spread during sex?
by Anonymous | reply 444 | July 3, 2022 5:27 PM |
R444 condoms are great for anal or vaginal sex, and good for oral sex but nobody uses them for that obviously lol. Rating the functionality of a device isn’t just an analysis of how it medically works, it also includes an analysis of how much people use it, or how it’s usability integrates into the situation in which it’s needed. In this instance, condoms perform well in terms of physically blocking the spread of bacterial and viral disease however they don’t perform well in usability (people prefer not to use them). That’s why HIV has continued to spread even though we have access to condoms. PREP performs just as well as condoms un blocking HIV and performs much better in usability as long as it is easily available to the people that need it. That’s why you’re seeing HIV rates in communities where PREP is available drop inversely against PREP take up.
No single thing is a catch all for all STDs, it’s important to protect yourself as best you can but also to remember that having sex exposes you to STDs, to remember which ones are easily treatable if you get them and to plan your prophylactic strategy accordingly. It’s different for everyone because it depends on some outside factors like what health system you’re a member of, your relationship status, your ability to take antibiotics or not etc etc etc.
As with all of these things the best advice is to talk to your doctor.

r456 I had to roll my eyes since the beginning. I looked at the direct sources, health official/experts reports, such tweets for facts, data and transmission routes, etc. Under replies, so many were instantly screaming homophobia at the mention of "gay, bi, men who have sex w men" data, as if that info should be muzzled. Fine. Monkeypox doesn't affect me (in my 30s, have good sex life but as a clean freak do not mix with the unknown with questionable health status). Then when some LGB group suggested temporary closing of sex venues to protect gays and prevent further wild spread, they got called homophobic rightwing bigots or sth. Fine.
Now another side is screaming homophobia because not enough vaccines go to those who should get them first... GBMSM? This and that and everything is homophobia. Let's bury and ignore everything, anybody can get it. While currently MP seems to overwhelmingly attack certain demographic/community, targeted care, prevention, even mentioning is... "stigmatising".

Monkeypox cases have doubled in New York City over the past week, according to local health authorities.
It’s unclear why the current outbreak is predominantly impacting gay and bisexual men. The virus, which was named monkeypox because it was first detected in laboratory monkeys decades ago, is known to be transmissible via body fluids and direct contact with the blister-like rashes patients often develop.

Experts warn that the US could soon lose control of monkeypox due to lack of testing and limited access to vaccines
Public health leaders from the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) and George Washington University (GW) warn that a fractured and lacking response to the outbreak so far can have severe consequences.
Previous experts have warned that the virus has likely been spreading undetected in the U.S. for some time, and fear it could become endemic in the nation is not curbed soon.
'Where we have lagged is streamlining testing, making vaccines available, streamlining access to the best therapeutics,' David Harvey, executive director of the NCSD told The Hill.
All three areas have been bureaucratic and slow, and that means we haven't contained this outbreak.'
Testing for the virus has been a slow and arduous process so far. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms of the virus they are first examined for the orthopox family of viruses.
The lineage includes monkeypox - along with the extinct smallpox virus - and it is likely that anyone who tests positive for it does have the tropical infection.
American officials have ordered around 4.4 million doses of the Jynneos vaccine - including an additional 2.5 million last week.

The lineage includes monkeypox - along with the extinct smallpox virus - and it is likely that anyone who tests positive for it does have the tropical infection.
In order to confirm a monkeypox case, samples must be sent to the CDC for testing, where it is then confirmed.
Testing is slow, though. Access to these test is limited as well. This makes many experts fear that cases are going undetected.
The federal government has taken steps to expand capacity but access to tests is still relatively limited.
On Wednesday, the CDC announced that it had partnered with Labcorp to expand testing, doubling the capacity of testing to 20,000 per week in the near future.
There have also been cases detected so far with no links to international travel or to another case of the virus - meaning there is some undetected circulation of the virus ongoing.
'We've been sort of screaming for a month about how bad the diagnostic situation is for monkeypox,' James Krellenstein, cofounder of Prep4All, told The Hill.
'And that really was a clear error, preventable, and it's very clear that this administration has not learned lessons from early Covid.'

NYC gets 6,000 more doses of monkeypox vaccine, larger supply weeks away
The city Department of Health said Wednesday it was poised to offer thousands of new monkeypox vaccination slots, just hours after it received a new shipment of the much-sought inoculation from the feds.
New Yorkers seemed ready to snap them up, too, as they quickly grabbed appointments that were posted prematurely Wednesday due to an online glitch in just minutes.
“Due to an unfortunate glitch, monkeypox vaccine appointments were made available prematurely. Rest assured, more appointments will be available this afternoon, and we will update here and on our website when they are available,” DOHMH tweeted. “We will be honoring all appointments that were made earlier today.”
The situation repeated itself Wednesday evening when the agency formally released a limited number of new slots, all of which were quickly snagged.
The second monkeypox vaccine delivery — which arrived Tuesday and netted almost 6,000 new doses — comes as officials at DOHMH battle a wave of recent cases amid recent LGBT Pride celebrations, which concluded at the end of June.
Additionally, officials said they are holding off on providing second doses to the roughly 1,000 New Yorkers who already received their first shot to maximize the number of people who can get the protection offered by partial inoculation.
The attempt to stretch the supply comes as officials acknowledged they do not expect to receive a third major shipment from the feds until mid-to-late July.
“One of the things we know about vaccine is that they don’t serve anyone any good on the shelf,” said Dr. Jay Varma, who helped lead City Hall’s COVID response under former Mayor Bill de Blasio. “It’s all an argument in getting as many first doses into people as possible.”
As of Tuesday, 111 New Yorkers have tested positive for the virus, a dramatic jump from the 62 cases reported the previous week and the 25 identified the week before, city statistics show.
Monkeypox is an illness primarily spread through skin-to-skin contact, which can cause fever, flu-like symptoms and is often marked by painful lesions or rashes.
“Anyone can get and spread monkeypox,” the Health Department said in its most recent public guidance.
It added: “The current cases are primarily spreading among social networks of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, so this community is currently at greater risk of exposure.”
Public health officials have gone to great pains to emphasize that the virus can be transmitted just as easily between heterosexuals as it is among gay men, among which many of the early outbreaks were clustered.

Three men tested positive for the virus despite experiencing no symptoms and having no known contact with an infected person.
This likely means they picked up the virus from someone else that was asymptomatic, and had they not found out of their own infection, could have continued to spread it to others.
'The existence of asymptomatic monkeypox infection indicates that the virus might be transmitted to close contacts in the absence of symptoms,' researchers wrote.
'Our findings suggest that identification and isolation of symptomatic individuals may not suffice to contain the outbreak,'
This undetected spread is the worst fear of health officials around the world.

Look at this point we have survived the COVID pandemic and learned that some sacrifices are necessary for the greater good like masking up, avoid crowds and staying home when you feel sick so there is no excuse for this behavior and no reason to blame health officials for not providing vaccines or tests. You know at this point how to avoid it so quit blaming others for risky behavior and take responsibility for your health and actions.

This sucks, right after 2 years of pandemic-related celibacy! Thankfully there's a vaccine, but too little of it.

R569 is a bit alarmist. Read the article and the neurological and psychiatric symptoms "that myalgia (muscle pain) has the highest prevalence (55%), followed by headache (53%), fatigue (36%), seizure (2.7%), confusion (2.4%), and encephalitis (2%)."
Among various symptoms, myalgia and headache were present in more than 50% of the study population. However, more severe neurological complications including encephalitis, confusion, and seizure have a low prevalence among monkeypox-infected individuals.
As mentioned by the scientists, a high prevalence of non-specific symptoms such as myalgia and headache could be due to a common systemic reaction to viral infection. These symptoms might not be associated with direct neurological damage."

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas County health department has reported its first locally transmitted case of the monkeypox virus after a man who attended the Daddyland Festival tested positive. He traveled from out-of-state for the four-day, Fourth of July circuit party. Given the size of the Daddyland Festival, others who attended the events could have been exposed to monkeypox and, possibly, infected.

If the CDC expects me to give up slutting around on a ripe summer weekend, they've got another guess coming. I'll take my chances. Whatever will be will be. As long as my hole is coated with intermingling multiple loads, then life is good. Life's a banquet.

PrEP is partially to blame for this. Huge drop off in condom use. Stupid whores.

That article at R495 is a real jolt. I’m amazed that so many men were willing to speak frankly about their experiences, and even be photographed, lesions and all.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | July 8, 2022 1:39 AM |
R588, you don't even make any sense. You realize that right? We're doing great at what? Avoiding a possibly disfiguring disease whose spread is 100% preventable if you stop acting like a whore for a month? Do you believe these infections aren't happening? Is your brain just fried from all the poppers and pox pain?
I can just see these idiots during historic cholera epidemics. "You can't make me stop drinking that contaminated water! I like contaminated water, gramps!!" Idiots, probably from a long line of other idiots...but not as long as it should have been because, ya know, idiots.

Keep on doing it r590!
We believe in you, bless your heart.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | July 8, 2022 2:27 AM |
PrEP is a double edged sword. Yes, it curbed HIV but because guys threw away the condoms, it allowed for increases in STIs. The cumulative effect of one STI after another ravages the body and opens the door for more deadly sexually transmitted diseases, which is exactly what expedited the spread of AIDS all those years ago. There will be no Reagan to blame this time. Look in the mirror, gays. Gay men are really their own worst enemy.
by Anonymous | reply 592 | July 8, 2022 2:28 AM |
R591, I literally have no idea what you are even saying. What other diseases do you act this way about? It's very strange.
Shh, R592, or you'll pop R591's little bubble if ignorance...well, ignorance and pus at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | July 8, 2022 2:35 AM |
Now that Yahoo has brought the comments section back, seems it is FULL force to blame the gays for yet another disease that will spread to the “innocent” straight community.
It’s like we can’t catch a break with society. They will always hate us for something.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | July 8, 2022 2:38 AM |

Condoms would not prevent Monkey pox
by Anonymous | reply 597 | July 8, 2022 2:55 AM |
R597, don't be a fucking idiot. They might not prevent all of the cases, but they would prevent a lot of them. It is found in semen. Or, haven't you noticed the part where the lesions are all over the places where these cumdumps got dumped in/on?
by Anonymous | reply 598 | July 8, 2022 2:59 AM |
The cumdumpsters are getting fluids they didn't expect.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | July 8, 2022 3:27 AM |
You are right R595 you just have to get vaccinated. something that was not available for AIDS. Vaccines are becoming available. It isn't deadly but it is disgusting, and it would certainly ruin a summer. In addition, like COVID we don't know about the long-term effects, do we? I don't know!
