The Official Queen's Platinum Jubilee Viewing Party Thread - Part III

As requested in Part II!

by Anonymousreply 602June 6, 2022 4:02 AM

Must go out this evening, anyone watching the Big Concert at Buck House . . . keep us informed.

by Anonymousreply 1June 4, 2022 6:51 PM

Will Meg. in super short dress(cauz' I have legs for days) leap on stage & harmonize with her forever bestie Diana Ross(ehat you didn't knw?)? How great would it be if Diana pulled a Pete Townsend @ Woodstock in honor of being in England & pushed her offstage with a mike stand whack to the back? Would BBC go blank to protect darling Megs rep(we all LUV her)?

by Anonymousreply 2June 4, 2022 6:52 PM

Princess Beatrice's husband, the Count, is quite the twink in my opinion. Really gorgeous 😍.

by Anonymousreply 3June 4, 2022 6:53 PM

The BBC is showing an amusing skit with the Queen having tea with Paddington Bear at the Palace. The Queen takes a marmalade sandwich out of her handbag.

by Anonymousreply 4June 4, 2022 7:03 PM

They tap their china cups with spoons and now the party has started! Drumming 'We will Rock You' - Queen with Adam Lambert.

by Anonymousreply 5June 4, 2022 7:04 PM

George and Charlotte are sitting in between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Charlotte looks lovely in red.

by Anonymousreply 6June 4, 2022 7:06 PM

I love Brian May flanked by the statue of Queen Victoria, very dramatic. Adam Lambert looks like he's gotten fat and is in a regal-looking jacket.

by Anonymousreply 7June 4, 2022 7:07 PM

Well, that was shit.

by Anonymousreply 8June 4, 2022 7:09 PM

Where can one watch this in the United States?

by Anonymousreply 9June 4, 2022 7:10 PM

Huge crowds all along the mall. There are going to be some big names coming up - Elton John, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, etc.

by Anonymousreply 10June 4, 2022 7:11 PM

The crowd are constantly waving Union Jack flags which is rather pretty - waves and flutters.

by Anonymousreply 11June 4, 2022 7:14 PM

One newscaster said Elton will be on tape. Is this true?

by Anonymousreply 12June 4, 2022 7:15 PM

Any place to watch this online?

by Anonymousreply 13June 4, 2022 7:16 PM

R13 iplayer if you can get a VPN that works.

by Anonymousreply 14June 4, 2022 7:17 PM

R12 I read the same a few days ago, but he was pictured entering the country in a wheelchair yesterday, so presumably he will be performing live. I wonder if he will make it up with Rod Steward given he is performing as well.

by Anonymousreply 15June 4, 2022 7:18 PM

Are there any obvious omissions in the royal box other that the Harkles?

by Anonymousreply 16June 4, 2022 7:19 PM

R16 Louis is at home. Charles and Camilla, Anne, Bea, Eugenie, the Wessexes (inc children) are there that I can see. Andrew isn't there. And a bunch of politicians are sitting behind them.

by Anonymousreply 19June 4, 2022 7:27 PM

The Harkles aren’t there?

by Anonymousreply 20June 4, 2022 7:28 PM

Thanks, r18!!

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2022 7:30 PM

This looks very patriotic.

by Anonymousreply 22June 4, 2022 7:33 PM

R20 nope. They weren't invited apparently.

by Anonymousreply 23June 4, 2022 7:33 PM

Craig David now, in a sparkly blue tracksuit.

Andrew Lloyd Webber looks great

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2022 7:43 PM

Lin-Manuel gets around

by Anonymousreply 28June 4, 2022 7:44 PM

R27 Hung like an Arab stallion according to his ex wife Sarah Brightmam…

by Anonymousreply 29June 4, 2022 7:45 PM

Hamilton cast at the gates of the palace, that's quite something.

by Anonymousreply 30June 4, 2022 7:45 PM

Charles and William are suppose to make a speech about the Queen at the end of the show.

by Anonymousreply 31June 4, 2022 7:47 PM

Interesting song choice from Hamilton: “If there’s a reason I’m still alive when so many have died….”

by Anonymousreply 32June 4, 2022 7:47 PM

George and Charlotte look bored, tee hee.

by Anonymousreply 33June 4, 2022 7:51 PM

I saw Queen in July 2019 and Glambert sure did add the COVID-19 since then.

by Anonymousreply 34June 4, 2022 7:51 PM

Fuck me, the Sussexes being shut out from THIS must be killing them, especially Meghan.

The BRF got ITS pound of flesh!

by Anonymousreply 35June 4, 2022 7:54 PM

The Queen and Paddington Bear. Too cute.

Charles and Camilla waving their flags and enjoying the performance

by Anonymousreply 38June 4, 2022 7:57 PM

Well, that was too adorable, r36. I always like it when she shows her sense of humor. I’m probably one of the few who loved her Bond video at the London Olympics.

by Anonymousreply 39June 4, 2022 7:57 PM

The skit with HM and Paddington Bear was a great touch.

Diamond Jubilee: 007.

Platinum Jubilee: Paddington Bear.

by Anonymousreply 40June 4, 2022 7:58 PM

Aw, that's nice from Michelle Obama.

by Anonymousreply 41June 4, 2022 7:59 PM

Why was Tony Blair singing in a multi-colored robe?

by Anonymousreply 42June 4, 2022 8:00 PM

The Cambridge kids are having a long day. I wonder what they will remember of this whole weekend?

by Anonymousreply 43June 4, 2022 8:00 PM

Any sightings of the hunky Chatto brothers?

by Anonymousreply 44June 4, 2022 8:00 PM

Camilla may be already drunk. She's not afraid to let her hair down. LOL.

I thought the same thing r42. The resemblance was incredible.

by Anonymousreply 46June 4, 2022 8:03 PM

Sam Ryder really does do the kitschy Eurotrash vibe very well. It was a shock that he came second but I guess he got that nailed.

Who's the guy singing now in the blue suit and who was the guy who sang the Joseph song?

by Anonymousreply 50June 4, 2022 8:05 PM

Who’s the actor playing the butler? He looks really familiar.

by Anonymousreply 51June 4, 2022 8:07 PM

R50 George Ezra singing now

by Anonymousreply 52June 4, 2022 8:07 PM

George Ezra is the guy singing now.

by Anonymousreply 53June 4, 2022 8:07 PM

Prince George looks like he is ready to call an Uber

by Anonymousreply 54June 4, 2022 8:08 PM

The kiddies are too young to appreciate the music. George is already learning to be stoic. I think also the fact that they have to be seated and quiet doesn’t lend itself to having fun. I always let loose at live concerts.

by Anonymousreply 55June 4, 2022 8:11 PM

Rod Stewart is on now. He doesn't even sound like himself anymore.

by Anonymousreply 56June 4, 2022 8:12 PM

Poor old Rod Stewart.

by Anonymousreply 57June 4, 2022 8:12 PM

WHY is Rod Stewart singing a Neil Diamond song??

by Anonymousreply 58June 4, 2022 8:14 PM

The umbrellas look like.. footballs.

by Anonymousreply 59June 4, 2022 8:14 PM

Why is he singing Sweet Caroline?

by Anonymousreply 60June 4, 2022 8:14 PM

Yeah what is it about Sweet Caroline? I know they sing it at soccer games. And then in Wales.

by Anonymousreply 61June 4, 2022 8:15 PM

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 62June 4, 2022 8:15 PM

George and Charlotte came alive during Rod Stewart's segment. Waving their flags and singing along.

by Anonymousreply 63June 4, 2022 8:16 PM

What happened between Auntie Elton and Rod Stewart?

by Anonymousreply 64June 4, 2022 8:16 PM

R35 the freeze out of the Harkles has been spectacular. I knew it would be polite distance but never expected this level of arctic chill. Don’t f@ck with the Royal Family! They don’t play!

So, what’s the Harkles’ end game? Suffering public humiliation as an act of atonement to get back into the fold? Or did the call the palaces bluff by accepting the Jubilee invite to try leverage the chilly treatment to bolster their victimhood?

I suspect it’s the latter. Gives them a reason for vicious autobios (assume Meghan will write one) and Oprah round 2.

by Anonymousreply 65June 4, 2022 8:17 PM

Australian Jason Donovan was the Joseph singer.

by Anonymousreply 66June 4, 2022 8:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 67June 4, 2022 8:17 PM

Tom Daley!

by Anonymousreply 68June 4, 2022 8:19 PM

If the rumor is true Harry and Meghan need that photo of Lilibet with the Queen for Netflix but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

by Anonymousreply 69June 4, 2022 8:19 PM

Finally a ghey.

by Anonymousreply 70June 4, 2022 8:20 PM

R64 Rod gave an interview shortly after Elton announced his farewell tour, he suggested that it was just a gimmick to sell tickets. Elton was raging and ravaged Rod for releasing all of those American songbook albums, which of course sold millions. Rod has tried to make the peace but Elton being his usual cuntish self is having none of it.

by Anonymousreply 71June 4, 2022 8:20 PM

Rod was dreadful but at least is was somebody I recognised.

by Anonymousreply 72June 4, 2022 8:22 PM

Daley = pocket ghey

by Anonymousreply 73June 4, 2022 8:22 PM

R71- Thank you. Elton is so cunty sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 74June 4, 2022 8:23 PM

Andrea Bocelli is now singing "Nessum Dorma". A poor man's Pavarotti.

by Anonymousreply 75June 4, 2022 8:23 PM

Why is the blind man wearing sunglasses?

by Anonymousreply 76June 4, 2022 8:23 PM

He’s lost his voice, r72. Same as Roger Daltrey. Their singing style doesn’t lend itself to longevity.

by Anonymousreply 77June 4, 2022 8:23 PM

Andrea Bocelli, from the Kardashian wedding reception to the Queen

He does it all.

by Anonymousreply 78June 4, 2022 8:23 PM

R75 He’s as inevitable at these events as Alicia Keyes.

by Anonymousreply 79June 4, 2022 8:24 PM

Have any of these acts been good?

by Anonymousreply 80June 4, 2022 8:24 PM

Duran Duran!

by Anonymousreply 81June 4, 2022 8:25 PM

This is magnificent. Bravo Andrea.

by Anonymousreply 82June 4, 2022 8:25 PM

Is Tom Daley white?

by Anonymousreply 83June 4, 2022 8:25 PM

I wish Freddie were still here.

by Anonymousreply 84June 4, 2022 8:25 PM

R80, That's probably not the point. They are the equivalent of comfort food and something something Britishness.

by Anonymousreply 85June 4, 2022 8:26 PM

Up next is a band from my youth - Duran Duran. God, what was I thinking?

Simon LeBon is fat now.

by Anonymousreply 86June 4, 2022 8:26 PM

Charles perked up for Bocelli. More his thing.

by Anonymousreply 87June 4, 2022 8:26 PM

Andrea Bocelli followedby… Duran Duran? Really???

by Anonymousreply 88June 4, 2022 8:27 PM

Moobs

by Anonymousreply 89June 4, 2022 8:27 PM

Whoever is producing this is doing a great job. The flow and expert stage management is top notch.

by Anonymousreply 90June 4, 2022 8:27 PM
Up next is a band from my youth - Duran Duran. God, what was I thinking?

Three of the four up there (Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Simon LeBon) were late 80s wank material in that order.

Nick and Roger said on the BBC that the palace requested certain songs.

by Anonymousreply 91June 4, 2022 8:29 PM

R 65 The Markles were invited. Met w. HM & Daddy Big Bucks. No photos? Well, Just Harry wants his privacy, hates the paps. Bingo, he got it, no dangerous photos. They respected his trauma!

With gas set to top all time historical rates, doubt anyone in the US is going to cry for some aging Friar Tuck look alike crying how hard he has it. How many of you got left a few cool mill., by Dead Mommy who you dig Up & flog on the regular? How many of you got floated by the dad you publicly trashed for almost a year when you fled thumbing your nose & trashing not just your family, but your country? Yeah loads of folk will be crying for them & storming the gates of Buckingham & Windsor to demand Justice for Haz & Megs. Maybe, if you feel so inclined to take up their cause, make a cash donation to them directly, I'm sure they would much appreciate it. Weaves , bronzer, weed, coke, & skin bleacher ain't cheap anymore..damn inflation!

by Anonymousreply 92June 4, 2022 8:31 PM

R65, have a martini or three and enjoy the show.

by Anonymousreply 93June 4, 2022 8:35 PM

Oops meant r92 at my post at r93.

by Anonymousreply 94June 4, 2022 8:35 PM

Dame Julie Andrews with a taped message.

Alicia Keys is on stage now. Her breasts are ready to pop.

by Anonymousreply 95June 4, 2022 8:36 PM

Was that a tranny parade for Duran Duran?

by Anonymousreply 96June 4, 2022 8:36 PM

should have saved the tranny parade for Keye's Superwoman. lol

by Anonymousreply 97June 4, 2022 8:38 PM

The lights, decorations are so very pretty. I live lighting.

by Anonymousreply 98June 4, 2022 8:39 PM

Oh, dear. Keys'

by Anonymousreply 99June 4, 2022 8:39 PM

Love☝️

by Anonymousreply 100June 4, 2022 8:40 PM

When is Dame Vera going to appear? Where's Margaret Rose?

by Anonymousreply 101June 4, 2022 8:40 PM

R96 I was thinking the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 102June 4, 2022 8:40 PM

From Ronco: Keys Off Key: Live at the Palace

by Anonymousreply 103June 4, 2022 8:41 PM

I liked that the camera showed the gold winged woman at the top of the statue when Keys was singing about a girl on fire.

by Anonymousreply 104June 4, 2022 8:41 PM

I think there was a non-binary in that parade.

Don't give Prince George any ideas.

by Anonymousreply 105June 4, 2022 8:42 PM

The orchestra, lighting and production is superb. Too bad some of the entertainment is mediocre.

by Anonymousreply 106June 4, 2022 8:42 PM

R106, I live lighting.

by Anonymousreply 114June 4, 2022 8:46 PM

Does Alicia also perform for dictators and despots or just elderly German-Scottish queens?

by Anonymousreply 115June 4, 2022 8:46 PM

That was just gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 116June 4, 2022 8:47 PM

This whole thing is a beautiful production. Alecia Keys was better than I expected her to be.

by Anonymousreply 117June 4, 2022 8:47 PM

Alert: Tights on males

by Anonymousreply 118June 4, 2022 8:47 PM

Queen talking about Prince Philip.

by Anonymousreply 119June 4, 2022 8:49 PM

Almost the Best Show Evah!

by Anonymousreply 120June 4, 2022 8:49 PM

Prince William is speaking now on stage

by Anonymousreply 121June 4, 2022 8:50 PM

It does look amazing but I feel depressed about conservation in general - think it's a losing battle and Wills going on about it when he has 3 kids and flies everywhere doesn't ring genuine for me.

by Anonymousreply 122June 4, 2022 8:51 PM

Has William been at the gym? He looks fit and kind of humpy. Make him King before Charles.

by Anonymousreply 123June 4, 2022 8:51 PM

Pride is a sin, YM. Not so devout after all, hmmm?

by Anonymousreply 124June 4, 2022 8:51 PM

We are saying goodbye to TQ, aren't we?

by Anonymousreply 125June 4, 2022 8:51 PM

PW got his mother's nose.

by Anonymousreply 126June 4, 2022 8:51 PM

Prince William is sexy and connects. Glad TRF are environments. Philip to Charles to Wills.

by Anonymousreply 127June 4, 2022 8:52 PM

Harry got dissed big time with the Queen calling out the efforts of Charles and William.

by Anonymousreply 128June 4, 2022 8:52 PM

Wow! Go William. Well done!

by Anonymousreply 129June 4, 2022 8:53 PM

Preachy.

by Anonymousreply 130June 4, 2022 8:53 PM

Someone called Celeste is on now.

by Anonymousreply 131June 4, 2022 8:54 PM

R128- I will never forget or forgive him for his shocking disrespect at PP's funeral. Never.

by Anonymousreply 132June 4, 2022 8:54 PM

This looks amazing.

by Anonymousreply 133June 4, 2022 8:54 PM

Peachy.

There fixed it for ya.

by Anonymousreply 134June 4, 2022 8:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 135June 4, 2022 8:55 PM

BDF & BDenergy, unlike Friar Harry the Ginger Eunuch

by Anonymousreply 136June 4, 2022 8:55 PM

Girl, find a key!

by Anonymousreply 137June 4, 2022 8:55 PM

Horrible arrangement!

by Anonymousreply 138June 4, 2022 8:56 PM

Celeste woman sucks. Where's the Irish? Sinead or Bono?

by Anonymousreply 139June 4, 2022 8:56 PM

Contestant number 2 from Lambath,Celeste.

by Anonymousreply 140June 4, 2022 8:56 PM

Beautiful lighting. Just beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 141June 4, 2022 8:57 PM

Fuck! Gonna cry!

by Anonymousreply 142June 4, 2022 8:58 PM

Celest, tell everyone you had a cold.

by Anonymousreply 143June 4, 2022 8:58 PM

Yikes, this Celeste woman blows. Shame it’s a great, iconic song.

by Anonymousreply 144June 4, 2022 8:59 PM

I like how every once in awhile they have the Queen speaking.

Elton John is singing now.

by Anonymousreply 145June 4, 2022 8:59 PM

You can't do these things without Sir Elton.

by Anonymousreply 146June 4, 2022 9:00 PM

Elton John looks like he's on tape but at least he sounds like Elton John.

by Anonymousreply 147June 4, 2022 9:00 PM

Throw a kiss to Diana, Elton. I dare you.

by Anonymousreply 148June 4, 2022 9:01 PM

Why do I keep getting teary, damn.

by Anonymousreply 149June 4, 2022 9:01 PM

I don't think Elton is well enough to appear live. He was seen being pushed in a wheelchair recently.

by Anonymousreply 150June 4, 2022 9:02 PM
Why do I keep getting teary, damn.

by Anonymousreply 151June 4, 2022 9:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 152June 4, 2022 9:02 PM

Now where does Elton stand in the order of succession again?

by Anonymousreply 153June 4, 2022 9:03 PM

R152- Mine too.

by Anonymousreply 154June 4, 2022 9:03 PM

Stephen Fry is on now.

by Anonymousreply 155June 4, 2022 9:03 PM

Fry looks fried. Ghastly. Couldn't he have shaved or combed his hair?

by Anonymousreply 156June 4, 2022 9:04 PM

England loves its queens.

R43 Are you kidding? Geoege is belting out Sweet Caroline.

Looks like a huge success and a blast.

Never bet against the Windsors.

by Anonymousreply 162June 4, 2022 9:06 PM

I hope Charlie doesn't fuck up here.

by Anonymousreply 163June 4, 2022 9:06 PM

Is Camilla wearing a quasi Caftan?

by Anonymousreply 164June 4, 2022 9:06 PM

He looks better tonight than he has recently.

by Anonymousreply 165June 4, 2022 9:07 PM

R33 And Tee Hee no, they don't.

by Anonymousreply 166June 4, 2022 9:07 PM

R166 They absolutely did. Go look it over again. They're just kids.

by Anonymousreply 167June 4, 2022 9:08 PM

Camilla, loyally by his side as she has been for decades.

by Anonymousreply 168June 4, 2022 9:09 PM

Where else would the slag go?

by Anonymousreply 169June 4, 2022 9:11 PM

Has Harry been put on suicide watch yet?

by Anonymousreply 170June 4, 2022 9:11 PM

God Save The Queen.

by Anonymousreply 171June 4, 2022 9:13 PM

I can't imagine how it must feel to be that loved and adored by an entire nation.

by Anonymousreply 172June 4, 2022 9:13 PM

Charles looks surprisingly good.

Harry’s absence is GLARING. He really screwed the pooch.

by Anonymousreply 173June 4, 2022 9:14 PM

I like the corgi with a bone lit up on the Palace.

A black singer is on now. I missed her name. Anyone know?

by Anonymousreply 174June 4, 2022 9:15 PM

This is an amazing show even if you don’t like the artists.

by Anonymousreply 175June 4, 2022 9:16 PM

LOVE the giant Corgi in lights. Brilliant!

by Anonymousreply 176June 4, 2022 9:16 PM

And the handbag was a great touch…

by Anonymousreply 177June 4, 2022 9:17 PM

Well, she earned it, r172.

She's the only public figure I can think of who made their acts were consistent with their promise:

“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service”.

by Anonymousreply 178June 4, 2022 9:17 PM

This entire show has a very gay vibe.

by Anonymousreply 179June 4, 2022 9:17 PM

Smooches to the Queen!

by Anonymousreply 180June 4, 2022 9:18 PM

R174, that was Ella Eyre

by Anonymousreply 181June 4, 2022 9:19 PM

The ladies’ clothes have been fantastic at all the events.

I actually do feel a little sorry for Harry and Meg. I’ve fucked up, backed the wrong horse, done stupid things that I regret. I can only imagine it’s challenging for Meghan at this point to keep Harry buoyed up and convinced they made the right decision leaving country and family.

If only they hadn’t gone on Oprah! That was the spectacular blunder. I wonder if they blame/resent Oprah now. Will they ever be seen in public with her again?

by Anonymousreply 182June 4, 2022 9:19 PM

That was amazing.

by Anonymousreply 183June 4, 2022 9:21 PM

Is there something you cunt face?

by Anonymousreply 186June 4, 2022 9:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 187June 4, 2022 9:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 188June 4, 2022 9:22 PM

Diana Ross in black & white. Big dress, big hair, big voice.

by Anonymousreply 189June 4, 2022 9:22 PM

Is her mike not working?

by Anonymousreply 190June 4, 2022 9:22 PM

Camilla and Charles both look pretty good! I wonder if they had work done? Seriously I thought both looked robust and healthy.
If only they hadn’t gone on Oprah! That was the spectacular blunder. I wonder if they blame/resent Oprah now. Will they ever be seen in public with her again?

Yup. Aside from the foolishness of it, I don't know, if I were Harry's brother, if I could ever truly get over it and forgive him.

by Anonymousreply 201June 4, 2022 9:28 PM

Miss Di, I want to hear The Supremes songs.

by Anonymousreply 202June 4, 2022 9:29 PM

Painting the RF as cold-hearted racists and attempting to blackmail the family while TQ's husband was near death is not some kind of "blunder" you just wave away. I have zero sympathy for those two assholes.

by Anonymousreply 213June 4, 2022 9:33 PM

They certainly didn’t succeed in getting most black celebrities to turn against the monarchy. Maybe just Tyler Perry remains and you know his fat ass would jump at the chance to hopnob with the Royals if he was invited.

by Anonymousreply 220June 4, 2022 9:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 221June 4, 2022 9:38 PM

I don't know why, it was entirely unexpected, but I teared up during the Paddington sketch. She seemed so natural, the purse gag was a genius play on 'what does she keep in there?', there was this simple humility to the thank you, which really said it all. I fucking teared up.

Queen Mary!

I think the crisp reception wasn't unexpected on Harry's part. They all know he was on a hunting trip for Netflix. But maybe one day, hopefully in the not to distant future, everything will be resolved and the brothers can be close again. It is what Diana would have wanted. The Queen too. And Harry knows it.

by Anonymousreply 232June 4, 2022 9:45 PM

R228 Yeah, I find it strange why all these American people are the highlights as well.

by Anonymousreply 233June 4, 2022 9:46 PM

There is a rumour going around Social Media that Harry and Meghan left for America at 3:15 UK time today.

by Anonymousreply 234June 4, 2022 9:49 PM

The Spanish King could have sent some hot flamenco boys at least. Why Americans?

by Anonymousreply 235June 4, 2022 9:49 PM

Diana Ross looks great for 78. My mom told me that the reason she sang the first song is because it was a favorite of Princess Diana’s. Her voice isn’t as it use to be but she’s still a presence and a magnetic entertainer. So afraid she was going to fall down those steps!

by Anonymousreply 236June 4, 2022 9:50 PM

Diane.

by Anonymousreply 237June 4, 2022 9:52 PM

They must have taken a photo of the Queen with L. It's bound to surface at some point.

by Anonymousreply 244June 4, 2022 9:59 PM

R234, wouldn’t be surprised. It’s all very awkward and they definitely seem like outcasts. It’s better for all involved if they left. They should’ve never went. Don’t think it’s solely about Netflix either. I’ve always thought they’d try to go back if their Hollywood dreams failed. Where they went wrong with their projects is that they’re both talentless. They could’ve done well with interesting documentaries on various human interest subjects, not done to death topics that mainly focus on them.

I think their irrelevancy is a done deal. William’s kids are getting older and the focus will shift to them more and more.

by Anonymousreply 245June 4, 2022 10:05 PM

R244 oh, for sure. They can’t deny the bairn that one. It’s only right. Just think, in 15 years Lilibet will be posting the photo on whatever platform it is, with hashtags like #famiglia #icon #queen. And she’ll have a whole other field day with Granny Diana. Or who knows, maybe she’ll be a serious person.

by Anonymousreply 246June 4, 2022 10:05 PM

Meghan needs to write herself a new script. She should have stayed in CA and tended to her father and worked on a speech where she could try to right the wrongs she has inflicted on Harry and the Royal family by turning him against them. If she can show forgiveness with grace, and that's a big "if," and try to fix what she has done, along with Harry in an interview, it would be a great way to fulfill their Netflix obligations.

by Anonymousreply 247June 4, 2022 10:05 PM

Kate’s parents were there.

Harry is not a victim or blameless. He’s a grown man! Meghan’s a shrew and it’s easy to blame her, but he’s just as bad, if not worse. He wasn’t led, she just egged him on.

by Anonymousreply 251June 4, 2022 10:12 PM

If I were directing their Netflix series, I would go for an exclusion narrative. Footage of the couple relegated to lesser spaces, looking on wistfully at the festivities, trading sad but knowing glances. Wistful piano music over the distant roar of the crowds. “Well, that’s that, then.” Then boarding the plane, and a shot of it flying off into the sunset. Fade out, fade in. Now they’re back in sunny California, on the beach, frolicking with the kids to the happy sound of crashing waves and upbeat guitar music. Back where they really belong! And then some talking-head reflection on how much the coldness and the boos hurt. I’m not even joking.

by Anonymousreply 252June 4, 2022 10:14 PM

Then they’ll sue Netflix for defamation / inaccurate portrayal of their life.

by Anonymousreply 253June 4, 2022 10:15 PM

If they insist on marinating in their victimhood, Harry and Meghan will never be accepted by either of their blood families.

by Anonymousreply 254June 4, 2022 10:16 PM

R251 Agreed. I am so sick of how Harry keeps getting a pass. He’s just as much to blame.

by Anonymousreply 255June 4, 2022 10:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 257June 4, 2022 10:18 PM

I'm so happy to see all the love for HMTQ. Fuck H&M for thinking they were bigger than her, for lecturing her on service and what royalty is, for thinking they could destroy her legacy and life's work all while her husband was dying. Who the hell do they think they are?

by Anonymousreply 258June 4, 2022 10:19 PM

It might be possible, R193, but only with a lengthy period, at least a year or 2, of unselfish acts and kindnesses toward the BRF. I don't see Harry being up to it and it will never happen with the PR they are using now.

by Anonymousreply 259June 4, 2022 10:26 PM

I bet Harry goes into a real depression once he's back in California. To see all that and know you threw your place in it away. There were choices other than exile and the putting the boot in. Perhaps he'll start to see that now.

by Anonymousreply 260June 4, 2022 10:28 PM

Bet that flight home was super fun!

by Anonymousreply 261June 4, 2022 10:32 PM

Yeah, the grandfather thing was probably the worst they’ve done. That interview aired as he was dying. I would never, ever forgive him for that. These aren’t private interfamily squabbles, they are airing the dirt out to millions. Lord knows what Harry will write in his book when the Queen goes. Him getting a free pass is ridiculous. He is garbage.

by Anonymousreply 262June 4, 2022 10:33 PM

Harry blew up his own life. He knew exactly what he was doing marrying Meghan Markle. She was the one who was going to put William and Kate behind him in his delusional little mind. They were to be the "power couple" everyone talked about. He might not have ever inherited the throne, but he had hopes of always being over William. He thought he and Markle could beat the RF over the head with the racism stick and they could do whatever he wanted. Harry bet his future and all of his money on the wrong horse.

by Anonymousreply 299June 4, 2022 11:28 PM

We thoughtfully considered your question R295, and the answer is NO.

by Anonymousreply 300June 4, 2022 11:29 PM

R295 It’s kind of a big story how Harry’s been totally ghosted by the royal fam. Not a word about him today, no mention, nada. Publicly iced. He’s DEAD TO THEM.

by Anonymousreply 301June 4, 2022 11:30 PM

Thanks for the correction, R299.

by Anonymousreply 302June 4, 2022 11:31 PM

R297, I think they will be diminished when the Queen goes. I am not a huge Royal watcher, but I love the Queen. She’s an amazing woman. Her reign will be unmatched and multiple generations have grown up with her. I don’t think Charles will be that popular, certainly his reign won’t be as long. He’s too old now and a bit dull. William would be a better pick to take over next, but that won’t happen.

by Anonymousreply 303June 4, 2022 11:34 PM

Gosh, this was nice. The world has been so awful and still is. One old gal made me/us feel better. That ain't nothin'.

by Anonymousreply 304June 4, 2022 11:38 PM

Among the many cards Harry and Meghan have played badly: there will be huge inheritances in the Queen's will and, some years later, in Charles's. That's where the big money is, as they have had the revenues from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall respectively for seven decades. So, you trash the Queen's life's work and go on television accusing the royal family of indifference and racism as the Queen's husband lies dying, and you expect to be treated well in her will? They gambled everything on the mistaken notion that they could become international celebrities who were respected and lionized, and now they are seeing their hopes dimming.

by Anonymousreply 315June 5, 2022 12:54 AM

Okay... I'm a BIG fan of Diana Ross but nuh-uh... What in the world was she thinking? First, I wondered if she even rehearsed but I then I realized that it wasn't her voice it was that MONSTROUS dress!!! I get that she wanted to do her Queen Diana shtick, (and hide that she's put back on A LOT of weight) but she couldn't negotiate that dress. Besides being ugly it was just too much damn dress! A very mediocre performance from her. Were it not for the lights, the full scale orchestra, and the backup singers, it would have been a total flop.

by Anonymousreply 316June 5, 2022 1:10 AM

Diana Ross needed someone to help her down the stairs. Her voice gave out at the end, she was talking rather than singing. Her face looked good, though.

The Paddington thing moved me and this line from The Times captured why:

Party at the Palace felt like a passionate — and extremely slick — attempt to pull out all the stops. The energy of the performances and the high production values of the staging made it thrilling to watch, [italics]but there was something else in the mix too, perhaps the sense that everyone involved was celebrating the second Elizabethan age ... but also marking its inevitable passing.[/italics]

The biggest diss was the Queen specifically praising Charles and his ‘eldest son William’ for their conservation efforts. That was a big passion of Harry’s if I recall correctly and he was pissed that William took some affiliated patronage.

by Anonymousreply 327June 5, 2022 1:49 AM

And fittingly, in two minutes, HM outshone everyone and their horses! "Answering" the question, "What's in her handbag?"! Tapping the beat on her teacup and saucer to introduce "We Will Rock You"! Showing what graciousness is in dealing with Paddington Bear's clumsiness!

HM ROCKS! 👑 🎉

by Anonymousreply 334June 5, 2022 1:57 AM

Love Diana Ross, but with the UK's incredible pedigree in pop and rock music, they couldn't book a homegrown icon to close the show?

Plus, she only really sang one truly iconic song. I like Chain Reaction a lot but that arrangement was terrible. Why mess with the gibb production. I assume it was arranged to accommodate Miss Ross' current capability. Even though she was semi lipsyncing.

I adore the photo of the crowd's response to the marmalade sandwich. She absolutely charmed us, and little Charlotte looks as though she can hardly believe her eyes. At that age I imagine she might be young enough to think great gran really did sit down with Paddington.

Glad I'm not the only one who teared up tonight.

by Anonymousreply 342June 5, 2022 2:04 AM

I loved seeing Miss Ross tonight. Obviously, she was lip syncing most of her performance, and when she did use her live voice it was old lady shrill. Even so, I'm glad to see her performing live on stage at 78 years old. INCREDIBLE!! And I'm so glad she didn't fall up or down those stairs. My fingers were crossed wishing her well.

by Anonymousreply 370June 5, 2022 2:57 AM

Daily Mail is saying H&M are not expected at tomorrow's events either. So I'm betting they have left the UK after all. Kind of a shitty thing to leaving on your kid's first birthday.

Was wonderful. What do the English like more than a laugh, some nice food & a sing song. I remember as a Yank visiting, going to a conservative men's club with my husbear's family & people champing at the bit to sing along with a band that was playing. Really touched me. Same thing happened at wedding we went to a few months later. Its very charming. Young & old singing all together to some hokey tunes.

French and Saunders, a British institution, would have been fun here, but they're not royalists and both declined the OBE in 2001.

I'm fairly sure this must have been the case with other potential performers as well.

by Anonymousreply 377June 5, 2022 3:12 AM

What happened to Elton John? How come he performed remotely? I knew he flew into London but then was on wheelchair. I guess he figured if the Queen can appear by Zoom, so can he.

by Anonymousreply 378June 5, 2022 3:17 AM

The Queen/Paddington Bear interlude was cute, touching, brilliant to the point of heartbreaking. Because deep down, we all know that the end of one of the most unique eras in history is winding down to its conclusion.

Another "Mary" moment was during Charles speech, he mentioned how the Queen has seen us through good times and bad.
Do you all think Harry self medicates with alcohol and/drugs?

Vis-a-vis alcohol, with Brits, it's tough to tell. Going down to the pub for a pint or six is such a part of the culture. I've watched Brits spend 8 straight hours knocking back beer and wine on flights from Bangkok to Sydney and walk off the plane right as rain. Given this, how could you tell if he was self-medicating with alcohol or simply doing his culturally-inculcated Brit thing.

R364 The skit with Paddington Bear wasn’t targeted at you, shocking as that might seem.

by Anonymousreply 406June 5, 2022 6:31 AM

This was a satisfying end to the whole saga. We now know where H&M stand in the BRF and how they will be managed if the ever visit again. Charles coronation will be much the same. Harry and Meghan across the aisle and a few seats behind, maybe a window shot.

We also know where they stand in America now. Any engagements they attempt will look like sad royal cosplay. Even Harry's polo club seems all the sadder. They truly have to make their way now, on their own starpower, not as high ranked royals.

This Jubilee literally could not have gone better.

by Anonymousreply 407June 5, 2022 6:40 AM

Blocking them from public appearances was understandable. But it was pretty surprising that their invitation to the private reception after the church service somehow went astray. Guess so much mail piled up at Frogmore Cottage during their absence that they didn't have time to sort through it.

by Anonymousreply 418June 5, 2022 8:39 AM

R408 This has been explained at least three times. It isn't surprising at all. The Sussexes were kept out of any situation in which they could have tried to approach the Cambridges or the Cornwalls. The reception was a buffet and people mingled freely. No one trusted the Sussexes not to try to get themselves a photo OP with his father or brother and their wives that would take up headlines and give the Sussexes a chance to gather higher grade toual pixie dust to monetise.

And the other reason was the numerous high-level Cabinet ministers there. Harry is suing the Home Office over his security status, and the Home Sectetary was amongst the guests.

It was a situation in which no one sane would have unleashed H&M to roam freely, grazing for PR.

After Meghan's little performance with the kiddies behind the windows of the Trooping the Colour, and rolling down the limo windows of when leaving to smile at the crowds (done if whom booed), it's clear all the decisions were wise.

Meghan, especially, cannot be trusted, she cannot control herself.

And, there are many rumours floating that she was wired, hoping for "material" for Netflix.

I hope they were screened electronically before lunch with the Queen and the meeting with Charles.

The children are there, don't be silly. No photo ops with the kids was probably another condition. If the Queen allowed one privately at that meeting, it will be hers, not theirs, and I'm sure she'll release it when she wants to.

It is reported that the Sussexes held an informal birthday celebration for Lilubet yesterday, attended by "some second cousins", which probably means the York grandchildren and maybe the Tindalls.

But not the Queen, as the bawling bullshit tabs excitedly predicted.

Next: the secret christening of Lilibet at Windsor. Right.

On to the pageant and perhaps one last heroic balcony appearance by HM accompanied by the Cornwalls and Cambridges.

Likely the last time we will ever see her there.

by Anonymousreply 419June 5, 2022 10:23 AM

R418 How lovely it is that Kate and the kids are shown to be just like the rest of us schlubs. Except that they have maids and cooks and butlers and nannies and gofers who can pop round to Tesco or Fortnum and Mason or Harrods to pick up a few dozen cupcakes for the show. Then it's simply a matter of appropriate oh look they're just like us clothing, some kitchen utensils, set up the shots, snap snap and Bob's yer uncle. Then the nannies take the kids away, the maid's clean up and Kate goes off to her next appointment.

I will be a blithering mess when the Old Girl finally goes. But I resent this blatant pandering to the lowest common denominator masses.

by Anonymousreply 423June 5, 2022 10:38 AM

I take no pleasure in writing that I wouldn't be surprised if Harry has a mental breakdown. I wouldn't be surprised if domestic violence happens initiated by either of them.

Of course, it's entirely possible their presence at the Jubilee only reinforced, in their minds, their decision to leave. They been deluded so far about their appeal, such as it is.

Now what?

Assuming that Markle is still capable of taking a cold, hard, look at their situation, I'll bet she files for divorce first.

If the speculation has merit that their financial resources are dwindling, and they're hanging by the fingernails, hoping Harry's book is a hit, well, good luck with that.

(And, I know that some here state that Markle will never file for divorce because staying Harry's wife is all she has going for her, but I'm not persuaded.)

As a poster upthread noted, both Q E II and Charles aren't immortal, but their money is, and will be distributed among the children and grandchildren, but perhaps, not to you if you're on the outs with them.

If only they had toughed it out. Perhaps they'd have been sitting on the other side of William, shown laughing together and enjoying the concert.

The Sussexes blew it.

The DM article about Lidl's birthday party was very carefully worded: it says the "royal children" aka cousins were "invited" to the birthday party. No where does it confirm if any of them actually went to the party. I thought it was Meghan's PR but now I thinking the DM made it all up to troll them.

by Anonymousreply 437June 5, 2022 12:01 PM

R435, I know they are on the H&M payroll, I'm just pointing out how far they go with their asskissing.

by Anonymousreply 438June 5, 2022 12:05 PM

How do you you know, r438? Tell us more, please.

Why would the DM ass kiss or be on the Sussex payroll after yet another lawsuit?

Are you saying the Sussexes are somehow suing themselves?

R429 Two days after her wedding Kate was photographed pushing a trolley and shopping in Waitrose.

by Anonymousreply 440June 5, 2022 12:23 PM

I feel like the press (and most here) will not relent until we all fully hate Harry and Meghan. If they hadn’t appeared in some capacity for the celebrations, everyone would be ripping on them too (how disrespectful!) They can’t win, ever. Her family is gross and despicable, as is the press who hang on their every loser-grudging words.

They’ve made lots of missteps surely (Oprah, book and TV deals) but it seems like they can’t just be. They disappeared for a long time after leaving the royal family and were criticized for that, only disclosed their whereabouts and a picture of Archie when the neighbors found out. If they are such media whores, where are the pictures of their children, only a few out there. Few pictures of them in California except for the polo. Being famous and royal does not seem fun at all.

"#TheDuchessofCambridge, I spoke with her security. They asked me not to take photos. I almost died. And I also told the security that It was me who made the doll. I understand your skepticism but I promise you it happened. Xx."

No, Kate is most certainly NOT llike us.

by Anonymousreply 445June 5, 2022 12:41 PM

R441 They're doing a reality show.

by Anonymousreply 446June 5, 2022 12:44 PM

I guess the theme of the series will be "yes, we're just like ordinary people, but sometimes we have to go to St. Paul's Cathedral to honor Harry's grandmother, THE QUEEN, and this is how we remember Harry's mother, PRINCESS DIANA, when we're not feeding the chickens and doing good works for charity, and ohmigosh how people love us, and all we want to do is promote love and understanding and mental health, because we've been hurt by those awful racist men in gray suits but we keep moving forward toward goodness."

by Anonymousreply 448June 5, 2022 1:02 PM

I get that there are folks who are addicted to attention. I think they don't understand, but too much PR leads to fatigue on the part of the public. Harry & Meghan are starting to reach that tipping point. They are too old to appeal to the kids on line. He's balding, his looks fading. It is now clear he lied about wanting to be Just Harry, see his sulking looks with Lady Chatto at St. Paul's, as well as a myriad of other things.. No one is going to cry for his being deprived of money by the RF & the British taxpayer as they have to figure out how to pay for gas to get to their jobs. Polo is not an American sport, or a high level international one, so who cares when he plays.

Too bad they didn't put some money into a good strategist, maybe they did. Too late to mend fences with the RF. They got their number, so does much of the rest of the world. See Boos at St.Paul's.

by Anonymousreply 449June 5, 2022 1:06 PM

R445 - Could you please try to be tedious? It would be interesting to see how far you can push the tiresome envelope.

TIA

by Anonymousreply 450June 5, 2022 1:08 PM

Again - if not for the Oprah interview. That made it unfixable. Why oh why did they do that? So stupid.

by Anonymousreply 451June 5, 2022 1:11 PM

R450 It would be far less tedious/tiresome if you addressed the original assertion.

by Anonymousreply 452June 5, 2022 1:11 PM

Their principal problem within the family is they have utterly shattered trust. It's hard enough to forgive someone who has betrayed your trust in regular life. They have a whole monarchy at stake. They are fucked as long as they are married. Only Harry could come back and that depends on whether he sorts himself out or not.

And here comes the Gold State Coach, last seen 20 years ago

by Anonymousreply 456June 5, 2022 1:27 PM

Beyond leaving the monarchy in a huff, the Oprah interview, and their Netflix contract, they've conducted themselves in a way that evidences their unsuitability for being formal royals or personal family members. Their PR alone was damaging until the general public caught onto their games. Do Harry and Meghan not realize the government have the ability to track the origin of certain PR and share that info with the royal family? Regardless of her titular role, the Queen and those who work on her behalf are a tool of the government. The government is not going to let a couple of grasping cokeheads in any meaningful proximity to the institution.

by Anonymousreply 457June 5, 2022 1:32 PM

The gang's all there Kate, the kids, Charles, Cammie, Ann, Mike Tindall, prolly in his missus's knickers, Wills

by Anonymousreply 458June 5, 2022 1:33 PM

Mayor Kahn, BoJo next to Tindall

by Anonymousreply 459June 5, 2022 1:35 PM

It sounds kind of ridiculous at this point saying if they divorce he might be able to come back. They have kids together, it’s not like he can just pick up and leave the country. Harry, who is not a victim, is stuck stateside for the next 17 years if he wants to be close to his kids. Within that time, William’s kids will be be of age and it won’t matter anymore.

by Anonymousreply 460June 5, 2022 1:40 PM

That divorce will be a mess unless Harry or his family gives Meghan lots of $$$. She's going pap those kids right and left.

by Anonymousreply 461June 5, 2022 1:48 PM

Not true at all R460. No one would be stuck.

by Anonymousreply 462June 5, 2022 1:48 PM

I’m watching the YouTube Sky link (and the French Open final, Nadal up 4-2 in first set) and the “60s” bus is being interviewed. Have no idea who these people are, no introductions.

The State Coach has a hologram or something of the queen sitting inside, very effective.

by Anonymousreply 463June 5, 2022 1:50 PM

Yes, he’s stuck. The best thing for them would be to scale back their ambitions, downsize to a less grand home, and find something real to do. For example, I think Meghan should drop the humanitarian thing and just revive her lifestyle blog. At least it would be something upbeat and positive. Harry can continue with polo and maybe veterans charities. And maybe if they keep visiting the UK regularly, people will get used to them and sort of grudgingly tolerate them again. That’s my expert advice anyway.

by Anonymousreply 464June 5, 2022 1:51 PM

In this day and age, no one with the means those two have, is stuck. Ridiculous thing to say R464.

by Anonymousreply 465June 5, 2022 1:53 PM

R464 is writing treatises here about a couple of people who are nowhere to be seen. How about taking a bathroom break?

by Anonymousreply 466June 5, 2022 1:54 PM

R465. What are their means? Can you explain what income source they have to maintain their current lifestyle for decades to come? You do realise many, many formerly rich people go bankrupt, right?

Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 467June 5, 2022 1:56 PM

R466 Why do you care?

by Anonymousreply 468June 5, 2022 1:57 PM

R462, sorry, but you’re delusional. If they divorce, he is most definitely still stuck. She is not moving back to England. Unless she gives up custody, he is staying in America. You can’t be a working Royal and live even part time in America. Not to mention the ill will he will still have amongst his family. He can spend time in the UK of course, but will he leave his kids for months at a time? Unlikely, unless he wants even more bad press. I don’t see him crossing the Atlantic on a weekly basis. Harry as the public knew him pre Meghan is gone for good.

by Anonymousreply 469June 5, 2022 1:59 PM

Good luck getting top dollar for that Montecito monstrosity.

by Anonymousreply 472June 5, 2022 2:08 PM

At the moment, no. But I'm hoping, since it hasn't started raining, she'll step out onto the balcony of Buck House at some point.

by Anonymousreply 489June 5, 2022 2:39 PM

She's scheduled to appear on the balcony with the heirs at the end of the parade.

R433 That's a joke, right?

The DM has thrown enough shade at those two to cover Britain. They cover their arses with the occasional anodyne piece like Lilibet's birthday, and a Duchess Dazzles In!

They've been on the receiving end of legal actions by the Sussexes three times, and Harry has one going for defamation right now.

The DM is a business. It knows exactly what it's doing.

It's about as much a shill for the Sussexes as Rishi Sunak is for higher taxes on business.

Here's how it's described

The main acts of the Jubilee Pageant For Queen and Country

Following a pre-show and "Once Upon a Time" performance, the first act will recognise the services of the armed forces and will feature a spectacular military parade.

The Time of Our Lives

This will be followed by a joyful and lively presentation of the seven decades of the Queen's reign, paying homage to culture, music, dance, and fashion.

Let's Celebrate

Telling the story of the Queen's life in 12 chapters, this act will include corgi puppets, carnival creations, and different dances.

Happy and Glorious

The final act will be a grand musical spectacle, featuring a performance by Ed Sheeran and a rendition of the National Anthem.

Mall filled with Abba music An Abba-themed float has also appeared on The Mall belting out the track "Dancing Queen", featuring plenty of sequins.

A giant Pride flag has also been displayed to celebrate the gay rights movement. Northern Soul is also represented in the pageant. On another float are a series of drag queens.

Elsewhere space hoppers, roller skaters and hula hoopers are bouncing along The Mall.

And on the 1990s bus, stars include Naomi Campbell, Vanessa-Mae and Kate Moss. 2/3

Most entertaining:

Louis does it again: Mischievous prince delights with his funny faces He delighted the internet with his funny faces on the Buckingham Palace balcony on Thursday, and Prince Louis looked set to do the same at Sunday's pageant as he made a series of hilarious expressions while watching the celebrations.

Much to the Duchess of Cambridge’s amusement - and occasional displeasure - the four-year-old prince thumbed his nose, yawned and covered his face with his hands in an exasperated gesture after seemingly becoming fed up with the parade.

He was also pictured seemingly pointing at Boris Johnson while looking at his mother with a slightly bemused expression.

by Anonymousreply 566June 5, 2022 4:21 PM

R564 = dumb American.

Really, R368? For an event of this magnitude in the US, I think top acts would be glad to be a part. It is a historical event that has not happened in centuries. The details will be documented and will associate performers with history. I'm not British, but a special holiday and a year or more of preparation with the historical context would seem to make this quite important.

by Anonymousreply 571June 5, 2022 4:30 PM

One is terribly glad to be done with all that.

by Anonymousreply 572June 5, 2022 4:31 PM

Like many British people I'm what I'd call a soft republican. The concept of a monarchy where the eldest child is given the power to become head of state and those born into the bloodline are given privileges and titles is just totally bizarre, especially when you have a crisis around those who want to step away from the responsibility (Harry) and those who should be stripped of their responsibilities (Andrew).

But the alternative is a divisive and polarised election where populists put themselves forward as a president.

Charles and William are therefore preferable to any alternatives so I'm mostly supportive of them.

by Anonymousreply 573June 5, 2022 4:42 PM

R509 Hey, fucktard. I'm th OP here and on Part II.

Take your pompous arse somewhere else. And you're blocked.

The rest of us are only bored by your strident whingeing.

by Anonymousreply 574June 5, 2022 4:57 PM

This was fucking fabulous, all four days. I got choked up at the anthem today, knowing this is probably the last time I'd hear it and see her up there, together.

So many people predicted a bust.

We always surprise outsiders.

by Anonymousreply 575June 5, 2022 5:03 PM

It was such a huge, massive event. Coordinating all the participants, the special effects, security, transport, everything…mind boggling. Kudos to the organizers, I hope they get a month’s holiday to recuperate. AFAICT, it all went off without a hitch. I did see a riderless horse at the Trooping of Color and a vintage Jag (?) broke down during the parade and had to be pushed. Tens of thousands of spectators and no one was stabbed/shot. What a spectacle.

R567 Smart American not paying for a worthless lot.

by Anonymousreply 580June 5, 2022 5:17 PM

You paid for the Trumps, dear, that's worth at least a thousand years of British monarchy.

by Anonymousreply 581June 5, 2022 5:19 PM

^ Maybe not. Heard Biden's sister, that big brain suggested the US taxpayer should pay for Smegans security.

by Anonymousreply 585June 5, 2022 5:49 PM

DM is anything but a shill for H&M. They purposely run these sugary fawning articles to get clicks and incite the readers.

It's their style. Like when they run photos of an aged and very aged-looking ex-star taking out the garbage and rave at how glamorous she still looks. Cue the comments!

I wish nothing but the best for the old gal, but all this pomp & circumstance makes me wonder what pageantry is in store for the Queen's funeral.

As my mother would say, Louis is headed the right way for a spanking. Kate looks annoyed with him, but all the kids look antsy. It's probably been a really long weekend for them.

by Anonymousreply 588June 5, 2022 6:10 PM

What should be the saddest sight for the Sussexes in all this is not Kate and William centre-stage, but Louis on Grandad Next King's lap. That's what they've deprived their kids of, far more than a balcony appearance.

The roar of the thousands on the Mall when the three generations came out could not be mistaken.

The Platinum Jubilee, as the Queen, it now seems clear, intended it should, served to build a soft but visible bridge between the past and the future.

"It's time to recognise that we are now far closer to one side of that bridge than the other," she seems to be saying. I think it takes courage, in her case likely supported by deep religious faith, to acknowledge that privately and to the world.

by Anonymousreply 589June 5, 2022 6:25 PM

R589 has a really good point. There is something wonderful about having loving grandparents. The Sussexes have made it impossible for their children to know either of their grandfathers. They've also frozen out the aunts, uncles, and cousins who can enrich a family. For all their emphasis on family, the Sussexes really don't know how to love their own extended families.

by Anonymousreply 590June 5, 2022 6:54 PM

R575 many watched it worldwide. I hope it won't be the last time we see her on the balcony. She was so active prior to COVID, despite the death of her husband, and having to stop her activity really affected her. When older people have to suspend activity it does take a toll unless they can return to it. I hope she gets to spend a lot of time at Balmoral this summer, moving around increasingly and getting some strength and stamina back.

by Anonymousreply 591June 5, 2022 7:03 PM

There is something really valuable about an extended family network, it helps kids have a wider perspective of the world and not just the parents reality.

by Anonymousreply 592June 5, 2022 7:03 PM
I hope she gets to spend a lot of time at Balmoral this summer, moving around increasingly and getting some strength and stamina back.

I think she's as good as she can be, right now. She didn't show up for most of the Jubilee, which is symbolically important. She's started to pave the way for Charles and even Camilla.

by Anonymousreply 593June 5, 2022 7:05 PM

Really, R580? What do you call 4 years of Trump, family and cronies? They helped themselves to a fortune at taxpayer expense, not to mention causing considerable damage to the whole country and setting in motion a slow-rolling coup that continues to this day.

by Anonymousreply 594June 5, 2022 7:10 PM

Why are you all still here? We're on Part IV.

R590 I agree, Harry and Meghan are suddenly coming across as even worse than before. They are denying their children a relationship with grandparents and extended family, other than Meghan’s mum, they really do seem awful and unlikable. I think that this whole jubilee weekend has been a real eye opener for them, and they probably realise how badly they’ve fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 596June 5, 2022 7:11 PM

" . . . and they probably realise how badly they’ve fucked up."

Talk about delusion, right here on DL. For people like those two, it is now and always will be somebody else's fault.

by Anonymousreply 597June 5, 2022 7:28 PM

R597 - Diana was exactly the same way. The failure of her marriage in the early days, when with her youth and beauty and a bit of savvy she could have seen Camilla off, were hers. She was emotionally demanding and draining, and that's the last sort of thing Charles responds to.

Later on, of course, Charles provided her with an easy villain. But it takes two to tango, as my sainted Mum used to say (and who was a terrific dancer, something she did not, unfortunately, pass on to me). But those early failures, when Diana got angry when Charles observed protocol up at Balmoral by serving afternoon drinks to his grandmother, first, were very much hers.

by Anonymousreply 598June 5, 2022 7:52 PM

R597 Of course they will blame everyone else, but they can still do that despite realising they have fucked up. The new A list life with multiple million dollar contracts doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and they certainly won’t be welcome back here in the U.K.

by Anonymousreply 599June 5, 2022 7:52 PM

Rr598 True BUT Diana was a sheltered teenager. H&M are pushing 40.

by Anonymousreply 600June 5, 2022 7:55 PM

R598, as it’s apparent in the book about her by Tina Brown, she was demanding and draining because her husband did not love her. She was definitely acting out (she was barely out of her teens).

by Anonymousreply 601June 5, 2022 7:55 PM

R571, It is a historical event that has never before happened. Period.
