‘No limousines, no crowns, just ordinary people’: The Royal Family’s stay on a Manitoba farm
So this story about a 1970 Royal visit is popular here in Canada.
The thing that struck me most is the Queen sitting on a lawn chair just like the ones my grandparents had way back when. Also of note is the horrendous fashion sense the host family had. The hairstyles, glasses, those dresses, that polka dotted pant suit! Yikes!

The Queen looks lovely, of course.

And very good guests, except 20-somethings Charles and Anne exhausted the horses.

Isn't that one of the few shots of the Queen wearing pants (outside of riding?

I've seen it reported that Canada is the not-entirely-secret favourite former colony of the Queen. Wonder if it's true? I can imagine that farm family have Hm, Phil and the kids a genuinely enjoyable experience of prairie farm life on that brief visit.
And didn't some royal own a ranch in Alberta?

I was just going to ask why the RF would want to spend time on a potato farm of all places, R6, but maybe they truly wanted a break from all the protocol.
I think so, R5, she looks very relaxed in the photos.

It's sort of sweet that the Queen and Phil remembered the old man years later.
