My rescue dog stopped sleeping with me every night.

Now he goes into his crate for at least half the night. He spends all day in my bed, though. Should I be concerned?

by Anonymousreply 87June 29, 2022 12:53 PM

You probably reek

by Anonymousreply 1May 20, 2022 2:08 AM

It probably smells your desperation - which we all do here also with your stupid threads

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2022 2:09 AM

There are no smells involved! I assure you we both smell nice.

by Anonymousreply 3May 20, 2022 2:10 AM

Dutch ovening the twink hooker you’ve “adopted” again?

by Anonymousreply 4May 20, 2022 2:11 AM

Is it a rescue dog?

by Anonymousreply 5May 20, 2022 2:12 AM

Do you usually have dreams of a sexual nature?

by Anonymousreply 6May 20, 2022 2:13 AM

No. That is healthy. Leave him alone.

by Anonymousreply 7May 20, 2022 2:13 AM

How old is he?

by Anonymousreply 8May 20, 2022 2:16 AM

This may put your problem in perspective.

He's about three. I've had him for two years, and he's a chihuahua-miniature pinscher-terrier mix, according to DNA testing.

by Anonymousreply 10May 20, 2022 2:18 AM

He's fine. Probably just wants to hang out in 'his' bed, while still being with you long enough to show he likes you.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2022 2:18 AM

yeah, he's hitting his teen years and developing independence (most likely). It's emotionally healthy and will (likely) pass 😊

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2022 2:20 AM

He's just into you.

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2022 2:20 AM

It's getting warmer. Maybe you put off too much body heat.

by Anonymousreply 14May 20, 2022 2:47 AM

People who announce to the world that have "rescued" animals seem to think they are morally superior to other people.

by Anonymousreply 15May 20, 2022 2:55 AM

[quote] People who announce to the world that have "rescued" animals seem to think they are morally superior to other people.

Which is why we must ask whether they are rescue dogs. It must be reinforced.

by Anonymousreply 16May 20, 2022 3:00 AM

He's sick of you reminding him he's a rescue dog. Get over yourself.

by Anonymousreply 17May 20, 2022 3:06 AM

You might snore, fidget, steal the blankets and crowd him.

by Anonymousreply 18May 20, 2022 3:07 AM

My dog bounces back and forth between her bed and the sofa. She goes to bed to sleep and the sofa to beg for whatever I'm eating. She is sweet, but a bit of a whore. A food whore.

by Anonymousreply 19May 20, 2022 3:12 AM

[quote] A food whore.

She barks fat.

by Anonymousreply 20May 20, 2022 3:15 AM

She masturbates, too. Look it up. Always thought they were just cleaning their peri areas.

by Anonymousreply 21May 20, 2022 3:38 AM

He was probably trained that way. Previous owners probably sent him to his bed so they could fuck. Don't worry though. He will eventually figure out that you can't score. He will feel sorry for you and hang out with you more.

You're lucky you don't have a cat. By now, he would surely be laughing at you!

by Anonymousreply 22May 20, 2022 8:39 AM

you farted too much!

by Anonymousreply 23May 20, 2022 8:41 AM

OP drools in his sleep. I just can't anymore with that nasty drool.

by Anonymousreply 24May 20, 2022 8:45 AM

[quote]My rescue dog stopped sleeping with me every night.

I find I can no longer tolerate surprise anal.

by Anonymousreply 25May 20, 2022 8:48 AM

^ omg this sounds serious, should we contact SVU captain Benson?

by Anonymousreply 26May 20, 2022 8:59 AM

Is the dog bi? If so, maybe I can interview him. I myself am an out and proud bi 5th grader so maybe he could relate to me.

by Anonymousreply 27May 20, 2022 9:45 AM

R27 is a poser, Noah was introduced to us as a trans youth this season!

by Anonymousreply 28May 20, 2022 9:52 AM

R28 Well fuck me. I can't keep up with every plot twist. Last I heard Noah was bi.

by Anonymousreply 29May 20, 2022 10:40 AM

The crate represents security and/or his "cave". It's fine. He's a dog. They do what they want.

by Anonymousreply 30May 20, 2022 11:24 AM

He also started chasing his tail every night before bed. He does that for a few minutes, then hops in with me. Then he goes off somewhere for a while.

[quote] Is it a rescue dog?

Yes, he's a rescue dog-- thanks for asking.

by Anonymousreply 31May 20, 2022 12:59 PM

He probably sees what a fat whore you've become, and he doesn't want to get squished to death in the middle of the night by your huge ass rolling on top of him.

Dogs have a keen sense of knowing when they're in harm's way.

by Anonymousreply 32May 20, 2022 2:27 PM

Its normal for them to enjoy spending time in the crate if you trained them that it is a safe, and comfortable place for them. My two dogs are both crate trained, and even though they "free range" they tend to go sleep in their crate for most of the night. It's like their own little dens, where they feel secure.

by Anonymousreply 33May 20, 2022 2:33 PM

Maybe your dog read this news and feared for his life.

And like what R32 said.

by Anonymousreply 34May 20, 2022 2:58 PM

Dogs are den animals. They naturally seek out den-like spaces.

by Anonymousreply 35May 20, 2022 6:59 PM

Does your rescue dog also bite you?

by Anonymousreply 36May 20, 2022 8:36 PM

No, r36, but he'd bite you. He's smart that way.

by Anonymousreply 37May 20, 2022 9:26 PM

"rescue dogs" = rejected dogs.

by Anonymousreply 38May 20, 2022 10:08 PM

OP are you in the northern hemisphere? The weather is getting hot and the dog wants a cooler place to sleep at night.

by Anonymousreply 39May 20, 2022 10:41 PM

I'd call the vet about this as it represents a significant change in behavior. But I'm a big over-protective Doggy Daddy.

by Anonymousreply 40May 20, 2022 10:51 PM

You lost me at

[quote]chihuahua-miniature pinscher-terrier mix.

by Anonymousreply 41May 20, 2022 10:56 PM

Everything’s fine, OP. I wouldn’t worry about it.

by Anonymousreply 42May 20, 2022 11:01 PM

Maybe you rolled over onto those adorable huge ears

by Anonymousreply 43May 20, 2022 11:06 PM

I want to know what he's thinking!

by Anonymousreply 44May 20, 2022 11:20 PM

I want to see a picture

by Anonymousreply 45May 20, 2022 11:22 PM

you probably shift a lot and wake him up constantly. let him be.

by Anonymousreply 46May 20, 2022 11:48 PM

Did you change your laundry detergent or something like this? Use a scented candle before going to sleep? A lot of dogs are sensitive to changes of smell we humans hardly notice. If everything is as always, I'd try and see if there are any other behavioral changes - maybe it's harmless, maybe it's the heat. But I could also imagine something like back pain and your dog preferring a less soft underground for that reason, which should be checked at the vet.

by Anonymousreply 47May 20, 2022 11:52 PM

He’s just not that into you

by Anonymousreply 48May 20, 2022 11:53 PM

OP, I heard your rescue dog's always got "Rescue ME" playing on her headphones.

by Anonymousreply 49May 20, 2022 11:56 PM

I have a male cat who sleeps with me every single night. I know we're talking about a dog here but here's my situation for whatever it's worth. The cat (10 years old and also rescue when he was a kitten) is one of 2 cats but he is the one who seeks to cuddle with me at night. He is naturally a cuddler at night but what I've done to create this atmosphere is I give him to tiny pieces of cheddar (or Havarati cheese, his favourite) when he gets into bed. He has his own pillow, with a cuddly blanket on top, and he settles in for the night when I turn off all the lights. After the cheese, he turns on his side, and he knows it's quiet time - sleep time.

There are nights (rarely) when he sneaks off after his cheese snack to use his litter, get some water, and he has lots of other comfy cat pillows to sleep on in the living room and even his own bedroom with his toys but he chooses to stay with me on his own pillow. The nights he wanders off to sleep on his own, I just let him do his thing. The next night, sure enough he is back on his pillow for the whole night in my bedroom. No rhyme or reason for his decision on whether to sleep in my bedroom on his pillow or to go in the living room. He just does his thng. Sorry to ramble....what I might suggest is maybe give him a "treat" to lure him and create a bit of a routine - something he can look forward to every night like clockwork - and see what happens. In my case, the cat knows every night he gets his treat - hugely comfotrting, he associates it with sleep, cuddle time, cozy, and warmth and relaxation.

That's from a cat perspective. Dogs are different perhaps. Hope this helps a bit. I'd also recommend a lot of exercise during the day, poop him out.

by Anonymousreply 50May 21, 2022 12:00 AM

^^^ hugely comforting....

by Anonymousreply 51May 21, 2022 12:01 AM

Aw, what a sweetie. Absolute sweetie!

by Anonymousreply 53May 21, 2022 12:03 AM

awwww, I ❤️❤️❤️ his itty bitty wire haired face!

by Anonymousreply 54May 21, 2022 12:06 AM

Perhaps the dog got tired of you announcing to your friends that it was a "rescue dog"? That's an insult to the dog.

by Anonymousreply 55May 21, 2022 1:32 AM

Oh r52 I lovvvveeee him!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 56May 21, 2022 1:34 AM

Classic DL thread. The comments are hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 57May 21, 2022 1:34 AM

He’s really adorable 🥰

by Anonymousreply 58May 21, 2022 1:35 AM

The dog was feeling used.

It felt it was being used in order to gratify the dog-owner's need for self-validation.

by Anonymousreply 59May 22, 2022 9:50 PM

He's been sleeping with me the past few nights and we had a big breakthrough last night-- he needed to puke, and instead of doing it in bed next to me, he moved to a far corner in my apartment.

by Anonymousreply 60May 22, 2022 11:15 PM

I had to foster the cat my sister rescued while she went on vacation. Initially kitty would sleep under a chair all night, but eventually found out how to open my bedroom door, & after a few failed attempts, managed to jump in bed with me & sleep. Unfortunately she’d wake up & go under the bed to play, then jump back up & lick my face & even tongued my ear.

Now my sister’s back taking care of the cat full time for a couple weeks, but will probably have to drop her off for a week here & there. I wonder if she’ll still want to sleep with me or if she’ll hopefully be a little less hyper & playful.

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2022 1:19 AM

After I gave him his treat tonight, he fucked off to the other room. Who does he think he is? A cat??

by Anonymousreply 62June 24, 2022 2:45 AM

Did you accidentally smush him?

by Anonymousreply 63June 24, 2022 2:53 AM

No, I didn't. I'm going to go see what he's doing.

by Anonymousreply 64June 24, 2022 3:07 AM

Our dog snuggles with us every night. She usually retires at 11 PM and waits for us in the bed. She is like a live Teddy bear.

by Anonymousreply 65June 24, 2022 3:17 AM

He just needs his own space sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 66June 24, 2022 3:22 AM

Is r65's dog as cute as r52's dog?

by Anonymousreply 67June 24, 2022 3:23 AM

I am pleased to report he decided to get into bed. He put his head on my shoulder and seems ready to go to sleep!

by Anonymousreply 68June 24, 2022 3:35 AM

I have to say “He’s a rescue dog” repeatedly because mine is cute and people always ask how old he is because he has the grizzled salt and pepper color of a schnauzer so they think he’s old and I have to say “I don’t know, he’s a rescue dog, but he’s not old-old”.

by Anonymousreply 69June 24, 2022 8:44 AM

My rescue cat only sleeps with me when the rest of the house is colder. July and August I sleep alone.

by Anonymousreply 70June 24, 2022 11:10 AM

OP - Maybe if you stopped molesting the dog, it would feel safe in bed with you again.

by Anonymousreply 71June 24, 2022 11:43 AM

The dog is waiting to be rescued from you.

by Anonymousreply 72June 24, 2022 11:44 AM

You get gassy.

by Anonymousreply 73June 24, 2022 11:52 AM

Get your dog a check up with the vet. Blood test, etc. Often when a dog is sick (or god forbid dying) he will keep to himself. Almost like weaning himself away from life.

It’s happened to one of my rescues. She was always super clingy and energetic but slowly began to spend a lot of her time off on her own. We excused it thinking she’s just getting older or something else minor. Turned out she had cancer and soon after she was finally diagnosed, she passed away,

by Anonymousreply 74June 24, 2022 12:27 PM

Thanks, r74, for the suggestion. He just had his annual exam and he's perfectly healthy. Ever since I got him he acts strangely at night. I think he suffered some doggy trauma at nighttime.

by Anonymousreply 75June 24, 2022 3:55 PM

So, did he sleep in your bed before or not, OP? Please be clear.

by Anonymousreply 76June 24, 2022 5:24 PM

Yes, he did sleep in my bed before, but now when it's time for bed he sometimes goes off on his own and sits on his blanket for a while.

He's got another new behavior. He brings his little bones over and eats them on my lap while I'm lying on the couch. He's doing it right now even. I don't know what it means.

by Anonymousreply 77June 25, 2022 12:49 AM

How often do you change your sheets? Dogs have a keen sense of smell. Maybe he doesn't like smelling the cum stains. Stop jacking off in the bed!

by Anonymousreply 78June 25, 2022 3:59 PM

The rescue thing is annoying. Basically he's a mutt, nothing wrong with that, so are most dogs.

by Anonymousreply 79June 25, 2022 4:19 PM

My dog is 12 and started spending more time under the bed. Vet says she is healthy except for moderate hip dysplasia s/p surgery. She has some pain and limps a bit. This is common, under the bed is a safe and cool place for dogs. I miss her on the bed but she occasionally joins me on the bed initially before retiring under the bed.

by Anonymousreply 80June 25, 2022 4:56 PM

Under the bed is also cave-like, a safer space to an ageing dog that feels more vulnerable.

by Anonymousreply 81June 25, 2022 5:06 PM

my big guy refused to use doggy steps at my bed (he's getting old) so I got a giant ottoman, really sturdy and non-tippable and he will use that. It's a great compromise between him heaving his elderly bones and upon the bed occasionally and doggy steps.

by Anonymousreply 82June 25, 2022 6:46 PM

[quote] He brings his little bones over and eats them on my lap while I'm lying on the couch. He's doing it right now even. I don't know what it means.

The bones are psychological representatives of your tiny, pencil dick. The one you use to rape him at night. He's working through his trauma.

by Anonymousreply 83June 25, 2022 7:42 PM

OMG. Leave that dog alone.

by Anonymousreply 84June 25, 2022 7:50 PM

It's cloudy today and temperature is down. Cat is back in my bed.

by Anonymousreply 85June 29, 2022 5:26 AM

Our little adoptado schnauzer cuddled with us in bed this morning.

He is 14 and muy carinoso!

by Anonymousreply 86June 29, 2022 5:51 AM

R86, awww,

My beloved schnauzer/Cairn terrier mix lived 17 years. Wonderful dog.
