The most beautiful man in the world (IMHO) at the time of "A Room with a View" (1986). One of the nicest butts I've ever seen in that film also. Wonderful voice. Then he started losing his hair and it was all downhill from there. Has he even been in anything lately? He's pretty much always been married; no gay rumors. Here he is a month ago - nice hair.
He was in the gay-themed Man in an Orange Shirt, with DL fave Julian Morris

I guess he always was kind of losing his hair, even in the '80s. But just look how gorgeous he was! Does the younger generation even know him?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 9, 2022 1:53 AM |
He and Denholm Elliott were wonderful as father/son in "A Room with a View". Sands is now 64, which was Elliott's age when he made "A Room with a View." Elliott aged better, but that's the way it goes...

I see that he escorted Jodie Foster to the 1989 Academy Awards. Was this before she was out? Wikipedia mentions that she met her girlfriend in 1991.

I always thought he would have made a wonderful Lestat the vampire. He would have done gorgeous and evil so well.

A couple of years ago, I read in the Phoenix newspaper that he was going to be giving a reading here of Shakespeare. I should have gone, there probably would have only been five people in the audience and I could have met him.

He has a TORRID affair with Jodie Foster
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 9, 2022 2:08 AM |
The first movie I ever saw in a theatre was Vibes with Julian Sands, Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum. I was a big Cyndi fan as a kid.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 9, 2022 2:15 AM |
OP, His nose was too long for him to be considered 'The most beautiful man in the world'.
Will this thread reveal any thing different from the other ones?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 9, 2022 2:23 AM |
I loved him in Warlock and Stephen King’s Rose Red.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 9, 2022 2:24 AM |
Loved when he was Jodie Foster's beard in the 80s for about 5 minutes.

R14 Jodie & Julian had a TORRID affair

R12 - that's a link to this thread.

He is an interesting looking man with a face full of personality.
But he is by no means the most beautiful man in the world, then or ever. Not even close.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 9, 2022 2:33 AM |
He looks sick in his his most recent appearances.
And he's accepting supporting roles in TV rubbish. No self-respect.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 9, 2022 2:35 AM |
The man is 64 years old. Give him a break. His handsomeness faded; it happens to all of us. He’s still working in films and TV, and there’s nothing wrong with it. A job is a job and he needs to earn a living, R18.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 9, 2022 2:47 AM |
Gorgeous body in the '80s and '90s and showed it off in everything for a while. In addition to Room With a View, he got naked in Gothic, Husbands and Lovers, Warlock, Boxing Helena, and an obscure thing called Tennessee Waltz (a great butt shot).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 9, 2022 2:56 AM |
A handsome, older, gentleman.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 9, 2022 2:59 AM |
I’d eat his ass.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 9, 2022 3:24 AM |
R7: I also wanted him to be Lestat, with Daniel Day Lewis as Louis. It would have been an entirely different film.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 9, 2022 3:26 AM |
Ahhhh, one of my teenage crushes (along with Chris Sarandon) back in the early 90s.
First noticed him when I was 12 or so and GOTHIC was airing on Cinemax. He was naked out in the rain.
Loved the WARLOCK films, too.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 9, 2022 3:30 AM |
R25 Look at him grimacing in the rain.
He always had that odd grimace. As though he had marbles in his mouth and was absolutely struggling to get the syllable out through the marbles..
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 9, 2022 3:38 AM |
He’s absolutely stunning.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 9, 2022 3:51 AM |
OP, Check out The Village on Prime if you like Julian Sands. He has a minor recurring role in some episodes and fights! He’s still very hot.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 9, 2022 3:59 AM |
At his peak, I would have eaten this ass like a starving man.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 9, 2022 5:25 AM |
I don't usually like blonds, but I fell for him in Room with a View. I even watched the awful Boxing Helena for him.
Not a great actor, but what a face (his nose is perfect, by the way) and a gorgeous body. Thanks to James Ivory (and I guess lots of other directors) for having him get naked.
I think I read that he married rich so doesn't really need to do much.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 9, 2022 5:53 AM |
Here's his butt-baring scene in Tennesee Waltz (also known as Tennessee Nights, and so obscure even the male-nudie sites don't have the clip; unfortunately it's low-quality.)
It's at 1:00:41 in.
He really was a beauty in his prime.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 9, 2022 6:09 AM |
"I vow never to stop presenting hole!"
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 9, 2022 6:11 AM |
I also don’t tend to find most blonds attractive (dark hair and dark eyes is more my thing), but there is something very sexy about him. He has gorgeous features and a stellar body—and that voice!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 9, 2022 11:14 AM |
R31 Lovely buttocks but a lousy movie about a pedo.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 9, 2022 12:49 PM |
Not normally my type but in A Room with a View there's just something about his character and his voice that are supremely sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 9, 2022 1:06 PM |
Unfortunately, he is an incredibly short, homophobic asshole. The fact that he is a expert on Pinter's poetry isn't enough to mitigate that he is an absolute jerk.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 9, 2022 1:11 PM |
I smelled some old, fat prevaricators here. If Julian were "incredibly" short, 90% of DL old fat farts would be fat midgets.
He married well. He's fine, he sends his love to envious old bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 9, 2022 1:23 PM |
Last thing I remember seeing him in was an episode of SVU with Lynda Carter.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 9, 2022 1:41 PM |
I think that Rupert Graves is more handsome and has held onto his looks as he aged.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 9, 2022 1:44 PM |
Add me to the list that aren't really attracted to blonds but Julian just scratched my itch.
I felt the same way about Simon MacCorkindale and Christopher Cazenove, too. Maybe it is the British angle.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 9, 2022 1:52 PM |
R37. A am 6’. He is considerably shorter than I am (and no, I was not wearing heals). Obviously, I have met him, several times. Yes, he has married well, but he is also a jerk.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 9, 2022 2:06 PM |
[quote] Unfortunately, he is an incredibly short, homophobic asshole.
But he is BFFs with Jodie Foster
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 9, 2022 2:32 PM |
I thought Boxing Helena killed everyone’s career momentum? Did Jennifer Lynch ever direct another movie again?
And, oh dear, r41, for “heals”.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 9, 2022 3:02 PM |
His kind of equine face inevitably moves from "interesting and lovely" to "demented mule" in about 15 years.

[quote] But he is BFFs with Jodie Foster
Who is BFFs with Mel Gibson. Do the math.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 9, 2022 4:02 PM |
I saw him walking a miniature poodle on the UWS around 1990. He was sort of snooty looking and was definitely not “very short” I would say average height and totally pinged. He was great in one of my fave mostly forgotten movies Impromtu. So handsome and a great voice.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 9, 2022 5:59 PM |
Jodie Foster used him as a beard for a while. Then he married a couple of women and his career disappeared.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 9, 2022 6:17 PM |
[quote] I also wanted him to be Lestat, with Daniel Day Lewis as Louis
That would have been perfect casting. Too bad it never happened. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were laughable in those roles.

[quote] The fact that he is a expert on Pinter's poetry isn't enough to mitigate that he is an absolute jerk.
R36 What did he do to make him condemn him as a 'jerk'?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 9, 2022 9:42 PM |
J. Lynch has done a couple of very effective films about psychopaths: Surveillance and Chained.
Anyone who's into such films should check them out.
Sands also played a historical psychopath (and officially, case of lycanthropy) in Romasanta.
