Barbara Broccoli says the search for the next James Bond will start next year!!! PART THREE

Paul Mescal is only 26.

Richard Madden is 35 and has starred in a big movie - The Eternals.

Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy - too old.

Joe Alwyn - too much of a milksop.

Nicholas Hoult - deformed mouth

by Anonymousreply 600May 25, 2022 5:02 AM

Richard Madden is 9 toes out of the closet so it can’t be him.

Not Tom Hiddleston, please not that bum fuck

by Anonymousreply 1March 24, 2022 11:38 AM

Hiddleston is engaged to a woman.

Madden is bi not gay.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2022 11:41 AM

^ Madden is buysexual

^ Hidders is contracted to a woman

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2022 11:43 AM

Since the Bond franchise is dead and well on its way to decay, they'll no doubt dump the decayed bones in "diversity/inclusion" acid with Dinklage or some other guaranteed-to-be-a-financial-nightmare actor.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2022 11:50 AM

No Time to Die grossed almost $800 million during a pandemic. I think they’ll carry on.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2022 4:20 PM

R5 And then there's something that passes for reality . . .

As Variety reports: “The movie cost more than $250 million to produce, at least $100 million to promote and tens of millions more to postpone over 16 months. Insiders say ‘No Time to Die’ needs to make closer to $900 million to break even, a feat that would have been realistic had a global health crisis not entirely upended the theater industry. As a result, the film now stands to lose $100 million in its theatrical run, according to sources close to production.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2022 4:23 PM

Amazon now owns MGM and thus owns Bond now. Maybe Mr. Bezos will have himself cast as Bond.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2022 4:24 PM

At the rate the producers are going in casting, all our picks will have aged-out of the running.

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2022 4:36 PM

Ben Barnes?

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2022 4:38 PM

If only Jacob Elordi were older.

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2022 4:39 PM

Richard Madden looks great - for a 50 year old.

Maybe Hiddleston’s impending marriage to a hot biracial chick will work in his favour among the Henry Goldings and Rege-Jean Pages in the running.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2022 4:40 PM

I want the new Bond to be a stud with a big bulge that I can ogle throughout the shitty movies.

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2022 4:41 PM

R9 A Jew????

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2022 4:46 PM

R11 Impending marriage to a hot biracial chick? He only announced that because DL dragged him about his beard the night before…

She’s too old to be a Bond girl - and she ain’t no Monica Belucci

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2022 4:52 PM

Sadly, a non-bulked up Cavill is the embodiment of Bond visually. But he would have to do a lot more work developing his charisma with women and the camera while he's moving.

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2022 4:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2022 4:56 PM

R13, why not?

Whoever it is has to be able to look gritty and brutal while also cleaning up and carrying himself well in a suit.

Barnes may actually be slightly too delicate looking, but he has the general traits.

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2022 4:58 PM

R17 is obviously ignorant of two millennia of Euro Jew hatred.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2022 5:00 PM

R7 Jeff Bezos would make a great Bond villain.

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2022 5:04 PM

R18, hey don't blame me. I wanted Idris the last time around.

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2022 5:06 PM

Dev Patel!

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2022 5:07 PM

R11 Hot birracial chick?? and I agree with R4 that you can see Hiddleston is under contract to be engaged from the moon!

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2022 5:07 PM

R15 I know Bond is a fictional character, but that’s a ridiculous fantasy

by Anonymousreply 23March 24, 2022 5:08 PM

R18, no but I just don't think the coming generations, for whom this coming Bond will be their Connery, give much of a damn about those old idiotic animosities.

We should be willing to stretch horizons. Barnes is British, sounds British and if he can act the role and looks right, it should not matter.

What is much more important is that they need to channel the franchise more strongly towards spying and intrigue. We are too spoiled for choice on action heroics now. Show us something new, or old, as when spies were portrayed as masters of disguise and Rico Suave' attitude.

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2022 5:26 PM
Richard Madden looks great - for a 50 year old.

He's 35.

by Anonymousreply 25March 25, 2022 9:41 AM
and I agree with [R4] that you can see Hiddleston is under contract to be engaged from the moon!

Are you one of those creepy fucks who still believes in 'bearding contracts'? Gullible cunt. Fuck off back to Tumblr.

by Anonymousreply 26March 25, 2022 9:43 AM

^ R26 Right Tom! We know Taylor didn’t work out for ya!

by Anonymousreply 27March 25, 2022 11:17 AM

Where is the 'Insider'? He told us that Madden was going to be announced not long after the Oscars, so not much time left. Any updates?

by Anonymousreply 28March 25, 2022 11:23 AM

R26 You’ve heard of the actresses Nicole Kidman and Katie Homes, right?

by Anonymousreply 29March 25, 2022 11:23 AM

I'm surprised (unless I missed it) that nobody brought up a pretty obvious choice; Dan Stevens.

If in doubt watch The Guest (2014) & I'm Your Man (2021).

R30. Good one. I would like to contest OP’s view that Nichols Hoult would not be good. I can see him in a $10,000 Brioni suit drinking a martini.

by Anonymousreply 31March 25, 2022 1:16 PM

I am so sick of this franchise. There's comes a time when it loses all relevance to people, and we all know James Bond as Ian Fleming intended him has no place in a progressive world.

by Anonymousreply 32March 25, 2022 1:19 PM

Whoever he is I hope the next Bond is written as a character with a playful vibe and a sense of humor I think it was Seinfeld who riffed 'what's the deal with James Bond? You've got all the money you need, any woman you want, you travel the world--can you maybe smile once and awhile?'

by Anonymousreply 33March 25, 2022 2:12 PM

R26 Hold your chicken fillets!! Bearding contracts are as old as Hollywood, and if you don't believe they exist, you are, quite frankly, an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 34March 25, 2022 5:59 PM

Adam Driver

by Anonymousreply 35March 25, 2022 6:00 PM

Ever since Condor, it's got to be Max Irons, CIA spy!!

by Anonymousreply 36March 25, 2022 6:11 PM

Edward Holcroft

by Anonymousreply 37March 25, 2022 6:17 PM

Oh FFS...they should just cast Irdis Elba already.

He's built, sexy, British....it's not like Bond as a character is so specifically anything. He's a built, sexy Brit. Just cast the black guy already. Its 2022.

Jesus. Like it's such a quest to find the right guy... *eyeroll*

by Anonymousreply 38March 25, 2022 6:19 PM

R38 Seriously. So what if he's 49, he'll look the same 10 years from now.

by Anonymousreply 39March 25, 2022 6:28 PM

As I said in the other thread. Who ever plays him has to have an air of menace about him. Someone who is cool, but has that "coiled snake" thing. He has to be charismatic. People notice him. And he has to have a lethal charm. You have to look at him and know he's watching everything and the wheels in his brain are always turning, yet he comes off as chill. Apply those standards to the candidates and tell me who could pull that off. WHO?????

by Anonymousreply 40March 25, 2022 6:40 PM

R40 Ben Barnes

by Anonymousreply 41March 25, 2022 6:44 PM
He has to be charismatic. People notice him.

Is that what you want in a double agent? I thought it was a blend in kind of job.

by Anonymousreply 42March 25, 2022 6:53 PM

He’s not a double agent.

by Anonymousreply 43March 25, 2022 6:54 PM

Even if he's just an "agent" why is he so identifiable?

by Anonymousreply 44March 25, 2022 7:01 PM

Idris Elba is black, not British.

by Anonymousreply 45March 25, 2022 7:20 PM

^ Huh? Idris Elba is British, not English.

by Anonymousreply 46March 25, 2022 7:48 PM

Idris was born in England. He's more British than some of the people mentioned here (Adam Driver?!!!)

by Anonymousreply 47March 25, 2022 8:32 PM
You have to look at him and know he's watching everything and the wheels in his brain are always turning, yet he comes off as chill.

Jamie Dornan already pulled that off in The Fall.

by Anonymousreply 48March 25, 2022 8:36 PM

Is The Fall any good?

by Anonymousreply 49March 25, 2022 8:47 PM
Idris was born in England.

English/British means white, though.

by Anonymousreply 50March 25, 2022 9:55 PM

So people born in Britain can't call themselves British if they aren't 100% white? Okay, then.

by Anonymousreply 51March 25, 2022 9:57 PM

Oh come on, you know what I mean. And I didn’t say “100%.” You have to admit, if someone says they’re British, you don’t expect Uncle Ben.

by Anonymousreply 52March 25, 2022 10:04 PM

R50 English/British does not mean “white”.

by Anonymousreply 53March 25, 2022 10:04 PM

Don’t be ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 54March 25, 2022 10:10 PM
English/British means white, though.

FUCK OFF KLAN GRANNY.

First time I've see one on the Bond threads. Vile.

by Anonymousreply 55March 26, 2022 1:28 AM

I love Idris but he's too old....and he lacks the suave quotient Bond has to have. And the Menace. You know, Bond started it all, but as this genre has evolved I think they rely too much on muscle. Look at the Bourne Franchise. Matt Damon was a dolt. All brawn. I hate to say it, but the thing that comes closest to the old Bond is the Tom Cruise MI series.

by Anonymousreply 56March 26, 2022 1:50 PM

Nicholas Hoult is too much of a ladyboy and, yes, he does have a deformed mouth.

by Anonymousreply 57March 26, 2022 3:23 PM

^ apart from Tammy is a bat shit crazy aged closet dwarf

by Anonymousreply 58March 26, 2022 3:25 PM

Joe Alwyn is also a bit of a ladyboy. Looks like a transitioning young Meg Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 63March 26, 2022 3:37 PM

R61 maybe Luke Evans at a push. But will the fraus love him?

by Anonymousreply 64March 26, 2022 3:38 PM
James Bond as Ian Fleming intended him has no place in a progressive world.

That's why it would be smart and sexy to take him back to what he was: a cold killer and woman ravisher. It makes sense. Men want it. And women secretly want it.

by Anonymousreply 65March 26, 2022 3:39 PM

What if they set the next series in the 1950s?

by Anonymousreply 66March 26, 2022 3:40 PM

Nah.

by Anonymousreply 67March 26, 2022 3:40 PM

People don't want an emotional bond. They want someone who is a thrilling bastard. Who gets away with things that are impermissable now. It's supposed to be fantasy. All this tosh of 'bringing him into the modern world' needs to be ditched. There can still be the diversity - that was even there with Fleming - but there needs to be a dirty edge to the sex. Why else would 50 Shades Of Grey sell a squillion if women didn't hunger for it?

by Anonymousreply 68March 26, 2022 3:43 PM

R68, lol, if they really hungered for dirty sex, they'd just watch porn instead of reading romance novels

by Anonymousreply 69March 26, 2022 5:44 PM

What's wrong with James Norton?

by Anonymousreply 70March 26, 2022 5:54 PM

Luke Evans is great, and Dan Stevens is great.

But not for Bond. Luke has the devilish air of a villain, and Stevens as a fellow agent. He's too Golden boy for Bond, even though he keeps trying. to rough-tough his image up.

Idris is plenty suave, but just too old and needs to be moving himself back into serious work like what he did for the Wire or Luther. The span of this action heroic shit is small and he is much better than that, even if the paycheck is good.

by Anonymousreply 71March 26, 2022 5:55 PM

Hey, I could like James Norton as Bond.

by Anonymousreply 72March 26, 2022 8:12 PM

I think Norton is one of the better choices

by Anonymousreply 73March 26, 2022 8:22 PM

… that’s my point, r25. He’s aging like milk.

by Anonymousreply 74March 26, 2022 8:22 PM
That's why it would be smart and sexy to take him back to what he was: a cold killer and woman ravisher.

Ravisher? You want to turn Bond into a rapist?

by Anonymousreply 75March 26, 2022 8:25 PM

r3 Buysexual??

by Anonymousreply 76March 26, 2022 8:34 PM

Not ravish ravish.

by Anonymousreply 77March 26, 2022 8:48 PM

Jamie Lee Curtis is rumored to replace Ralph Finnes as M

by Anonymousreply 78March 26, 2022 11:04 PM

Jamie would be a dumb choice for that role.

by Anonymousreply 79March 26, 2022 11:23 PM

Jamie is more suitable to play the character of Mary Worth.

by Anonymousreply 80March 26, 2022 11:25 PM

I like Ralph! I don't want him replaced. Fuck.

by Anonymousreply 81March 26, 2022 11:25 PM

Apparently Barbara Brocolli was interested in casting Harry Styles but the rest of the Bond bosses weren't keen. Too young and too famous.

by Anonymousreply 82March 27, 2022 1:52 AM

Styles is not butch enough. They made the right call

by Anonymousreply 83March 27, 2022 1:57 AM

Styles probably reminds her of a grandchild.

"He's so cute!"

by Anonymousreply 84March 27, 2022 1:57 AM

All of female Hollywood from Chloe Zhao to Ellen is in love with Harry. He looked butch in Dunkirk and he has an excellent physique.

by Anonymousreply 85March 27, 2022 2:01 AM

His body is only okay by Hollywood standards.

by Anonymousreply 86March 27, 2022 2:04 AM

R85, what you said proves my point. Too cute. Too immediately digestible.

He has little raw sex appeal, and one doesn't need a few moments to consider whether he is too dangerous to get involved with.

by Anonymousreply 87March 27, 2022 2:09 AM

If you're going to cast someone Idris Elba's age, why not Ewan McGregor?

by Anonymousreply 88March 27, 2022 3:37 AM

r88 Love sexy Ewan McGregor and I think he should be viewed as mor of a contender to be the next Bond. I definitely need to include him in my next gay erotica casting pairing thread part two!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 89March 27, 2022 3:44 AM

Ewan was sexy. I saw him in an ad recently and he had suddenly aged. His spark was gone, and in its place a somewhat shrunken older man remained.

Plus isn't he too short?

by Anonymousreply 90March 27, 2022 3:46 AM

r90 I never realised he was short?

by Anonymousreply 91March 27, 2022 4:05 AM

Internet says 5'10", but they all lie.

Shorter than Nicole Kidman in modest heels.

MacGregor's appeal has always leaned boyish, which probably affects my view.

by Anonymousreply 92March 27, 2022 4:18 AM

Harry Styles was never on anyone's radar. Complete nonsense.

Of the backup list a name that is getting more talked about and emerging as an alternate is Charlie Hunnam.

He was down the pecking order but Barbara has taken a shine to him when she met him recently. She still is fixed on her choice but she is open to others if circumstance warrants and Charlie is now up there in top two or three

Barbara wants it over and announced by May

by Anonymousreply 93March 27, 2022 4:20 AM

r93 do we know who her choice is?

by Anonymousreply 94March 27, 2022 4:22 AM

David Gandy

by Anonymousreply 97March 27, 2022 9:01 AM

R2 Was OP implying that these actors are gay? Cause most of them aren't.

by Anonymousreply 98March 27, 2022 9:09 AM

How are Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy too old? They are only 44-45. All the other James Bonds were older.

Ewan McGregor is 50 so your pick is out of the running, Surviving Klan Granny. If they wanted a Bond in his 50s they'd have kept Daniel Craig.

Boomers and the Silent Generation are all dying off and Bond needs to appeal to younger generations now, so a 35 year old bisexual like Richard Madden would be ideal. He's extremely attractive and has that brooding menace too.

by Anonymousreply 101March 27, 2022 10:07 AM
Shorter than Nicole Kidman in modest heels.

Nicole Kidman is 5’9 in Dr Martens.

by Anonymousreply 102March 27, 2022 11:23 AM
so a 35 year old bisexual like Richard Madden would be ideal. He's extremely attractive and has that brooding menace too

He is also has the complexion of a weatherbeaten fisherman and is shorter than Keeley Hawes.

by Anonymousreply 103March 27, 2022 11:26 AM

Yet according to our insider R93 and R103 that is apparently who Broccoli wants.

by Anonymousreply 104March 27, 2022 12:51 PM

They need a transman black Bond if they want to get with the times.

by Anonymousreply 105March 27, 2022 12:53 PM

R93 Charlie Hunnam?! What a strange choice, if true. What has he been in that would give anyone the impression he would make a suitable Bond?

He seems too rough and tumble for the role. He looks like one of those British people who got a lot of their looks from the Saxons.

Can he do suave?

by Anonymousreply 106March 27, 2022 1:12 PM

Agree with R106. He would have to shave the goatee and muster some gravitas.

'Hunnam suffers from dyslexia, as well as a fear of germs and dirt in general.' (Wikipedia)

by Anonymousreply 107March 27, 2022 2:35 PM

Hunnam reminds me of Heath Ledger-friendly disposition.

My new choice is David Gandy. Visually, he fits. I'll have to watch some interviews to see what the voice is like.

by Anonymousreply 108March 27, 2022 2:35 PM

Isn't David Gandy a fashion model? He was in the Blue Water fragrance ads for years.

by Anonymousreply 109March 27, 2022 3:25 PM

Connery was a model.

Gandy has already done adwork where he discusses his love of the UK.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 110March 27, 2022 3:53 PM

David Gandy has never been cast in a TV show or a full length film, so nope. He does have exactly the right look but his six item long acting resume consists of shorts and video games.

by Anonymousreply 111March 27, 2022 4:04 PM

The cut off age for the new Bond should be 40 or we'll be dealing with another one in their 50s too soon.

by Anonymousreply 112March 27, 2022 4:05 PM

Bond has to be macho and sexy not femme and unsexy.

by Anonymousreply 113March 27, 2022 4:09 PM

Don't knock fashion models! They make great Bond's. Even if they only make one film.

by Anonymousreply 114March 27, 2022 4:14 PM

Maybe they should give Idris one film, Madden the next film, and then Styles for Gen Z around 2032.

by Anonymousreply 115March 27, 2022 4:16 PM

Cillian Murphy has a very womanly face.

by Anonymousreply 116March 27, 2022 4:19 PM

I like Gandy. He looks good. He sounds good. Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 117March 27, 2022 4:23 PM

Maybe as a young man but not these days.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 118March 27, 2022 4:23 PM

R111, everyone has to break in somehow.

He's not known for his other work, so preconceptions of the audience won't be an interference.

His adwork already displays all of the qualities associated with the character

And honestly, most Americans did not recognize Craig at all, even with over a couple of decades of acting work on his resume.

by Anonymousreply 119March 27, 2022 4:24 PM

R118 I don't know if you're using that photo to illustrate the before or after, but he still has the face of a woman.

by Anonymousreply 120March 27, 2022 4:29 PM

R90 Richard Madden isn't tall. Roughly 5'8" or 5'9".

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 121March 27, 2022 4:38 PM

R90 Madden is well under six feet.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 122March 27, 2022 4:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 123March 27, 2022 4:41 PM

Why not just cast Henry Cavill and be done with it?

by Anonymousreply 124March 27, 2022 4:48 PM

R124 Really. Why cavil about it Cavill?

by Anonymousreply 125March 27, 2022 5:13 PM

*about Cavill

by Anonymousreply 126March 27, 2022 5:14 PM

Cavill is a beautiful hunk of meat. He hasn't proven he can act, and has not ever had any sexual chemistry with a woman on film that I can tell.

Plus, his body is a bit overdeveloped now.

by Anonymousreply 127March 27, 2022 5:22 PM

Cavill sucks and he sucked in a similar role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Plus, he's too famous to disappear into the role

by Anonymousreply 128March 27, 2022 5:29 PM

R118 He almost looks like Marlene Dietrich in that photo.

by Anonymousreply 129March 27, 2022 5:42 PM

I said James Norton.

Thread closed.

by Anonymousreply 130March 27, 2022 6:07 PM

I would go with James Norton over most of the suggestions. At least he's masculine and not some lady boy.

by Anonymousreply 131March 27, 2022 6:23 PM

It’s past time for a Lady Boy James Bond!

by Anonymousreply 132March 27, 2022 7:44 PM

Yawn. The "I hate trans" trolls have to invade every thread, don't they?

by Anonymousreply 133March 27, 2022 7:46 PM

They just need to get on and announce it. They surely will start shooting it this year, given how delayed No Time To Die was.

by Anonymousreply 134March 27, 2022 7:51 PM

What does not wanting a womanly-looking Bond have to do with anti-trans?

by Anonymousreply 135March 27, 2022 7:54 PM

Who would be a womanly-looking Bond?

by Anonymousreply 136March 27, 2022 7:57 PM

R135, read r105 and r132

by Anonymousreply 137March 27, 2022 8:23 PM

I'm onboard with Norton. I like Gandy. But I still want to keep my pick, Joe Alwyn on that list as a long shot.

Tom Hardy and Luke Evans are not bad ideas. Older, yes. But still viable.

Henry Cavill makes me laugh! Not on purpose. I just cannot take him seriously. He cannot act. Not at all, and he clearly is not aging well.

I long for the days of The Tudors, when he played Charles Brandon and he was beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 138March 27, 2022 8:54 PM

r138 Raza Jaffrey is worth considering.

by Anonymousreply 139March 27, 2022 9:03 PM

Point of reference: Daniel Craig was 37 when cast and is 5'10.25" tall. Connery (6'2") was only 31.

[bold]AGE[/bold] as of this year, [bold]HEIGHT[/bold] (from celebheights dot com)

Idris Elba - 50, 6'2.5"

Luke Evans - 43, 6'0"

James Norton--looks like an artist or intellectual.

Rege'-jean Page actually looks too young and clean cut!

Edward Holcroft-slightly ponderous and brooding.

Tom Bateman works in corporate office or government, but not as a spy.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen works in some angles, not in others. Shoot carefully, I guess.

Nicholas Hoult is a punk, prep school kiddie. Too clean and pretty.

Jamie Dornan is almost always hiding his jawline with facial hair, so what's wrong with it?

Already mentioned Madden being too short and sensitive.

The rest seem either too old or too well known from heavily promoted work elsewhere.

You forgot my Joe!!!!

Joe Alwyn 6' 1" 31 yrs old

by Anonymousreply 142March 28, 2022 1:11 AM

R131 James Norton is masculine? Are we talking about the same James Norton?

I'll admit he's not bad to look at though he doesn't do much for me. But I don't feel his looks are particularly masculine and isn't his voice a little lofty?

As for those others mentioned by R141: I could take or leave Page, he doesn't do much for me.

Edward Holcroft is attractive but is almost forgettable - like he belongs as a side character, not the lead.

I don't think Bateman has the proven chops for the role.

OJC might work.

NOT Nicholas Hoult thanks.

I don't think Jamie Dornan has quite the right look for some reason. He's stunning though, I just wonder if he's almost too Irish (if that's possible)?

Meh to Madden.

Will Smith! Will Smith!

by Anonymousreply 144March 28, 2022 4:31 AM

The big issue with all the possible choices is that we have no idea in what direction they will be taking the films. It's quite possible that they don't know themselves.

The Craig run really screwed things up. CASINO ROYALE featured a green 007, who then progressed up to the retired (and ultimately expired) Bond in NO TIME TO DIE. So, where do they go from here?

If the producers choose to highlight an "early" Bond, then names like Hoult or Page or Bateman make more sense. If they want a solid, experienced, "mid-period" Bond, then most of the others would be better suited (although anyone in their mid- to late 40s would seem to be out of contention simply due to age at this point).

A lot also depends on the tone they want to hit. Craig was pretty damn glum and a lighter, slicker Bond may be in the cards. (Think Moore after Connery or Brosnan after Dalton.)

by Anonymousreply 145March 28, 2022 5:39 AM

I don't know... I still can't see the Bond people picking someone like Madden, with that very transparent glass closet and love of younger men, as something they're going to give the global spotlight too...without making him go so far back into that closet he's in Narnia. And I even wouldn't be surprised to see him pressured to beard, etc. And what does that do to the current relationship? Just seems like Broccoli and company are the type to play it safe so they can sell these films to the widest audience possible, especially in markets where a Bond with just gay rumors isn't going to fly. I would think that would be too much of a liability for them. If Madden really is the front runner, and as serious about his career as he seems, I'd think he would have spent the last few years navigating things very, very differently.

by Anonymousreply 146March 28, 2022 12:18 PM

If they don't get this right, I would predict the end of this franchise. Every movie or show that isn't about superheroes is about govt agents going rogue or pulling off operations. Even the Bond films themselves have long ago started to repeat what they did before.

It's going to be tricky.

by Anonymousreply 147March 28, 2022 5:03 PM

A lot of people don't really "follow" gay gossip the way dataloungers do, though. How many people out there even know about Madden's twinks?

by Anonymousreply 148March 28, 2022 5:04 PM

If he’s named as Bond, everyone will know about the twinks.

by Anonymousreply 149March 28, 2022 5:09 PM

No, the media is careful not to "out" people

by Anonymousreply 150March 28, 2022 5:12 PM

It's kindof moved on from 'outing' though when there has been open speculation regarding his sexuality in newspapers like the Guardian, New York Times etc and he has been asked outright about it. So all that can easily be brought up again.

At the moment he is more in an Anderson Cooper (pre-coming out) and Queen Latifa situation where it is such an open secret that it may not be seen as 'outing'. Or at least he is heading in that direction.

by Anonymousreply 151March 28, 2022 5:52 PM

If he gets the role I think he'll go back into the closet and get a girlfriend ASAP

by Anonymousreply 152March 28, 2022 5:55 PM

He may do, but it was speculated he would get a 'girlfriend' for for marvel as well, but the first thing he did was get a new twink. Been linked to one hot young man could be brushed aside, making it a pattern is a bit harder to explain away.

by Anonymousreply 153March 28, 2022 6:03 PM

R152, then he should not get it. If such a role forces people to stay closeted, boycott.

And he's too short and too sensitive looking, which are more important to the case.

The public should wise up. Anyone over a certain level of attractiveness is likely to be at least bisexual if not gay. When you look that good, you get offers and sometimes take them.

It literally comes up in the first couple pages of a google search for either one of them (individually), including header pics of them together.
If he’s named as Bond, everyone will know about the twinks.

Bingo. The amount of global fame, attention, press, etc. the Bond role would bring anyone is definitely going to put a spotlight on him in a way that someone so 'private', but with a not-so-private/kind-of-obvious situation, is going to have to deal with in a way they didn't have to before, and the glass closet situation isn't going to be so easy to pull off anymore. I just get a feeling Madden is the type to not like that sort of thing. I think he wants big, A-list success, but he doesn't like the attention fame brings (at least for as long as he's closeted).

I don't think the media would 'out' him. The point I was getting at is will it 'in' him more and more, and is he ok with that? This is a major beloved global franchise headed up by one star (not an ensemble like Eternals), used to sell and cross promote, in all global markets (included those that notoriously ban anything gay related, etc.). It's going to bring massive attention to him, that people will google in this day and age, and unless they wipe out all the old evidence (which they could do, to a degree), it's going to be all right there...and people will talk. I don't think Broccoli and company are going to want that. And then what pressures do they put on him to stay in line - bearding, etc.

by Anonymousreply 158March 29, 2022 1:52 AM
the Bond role would bring anyone is definitely going to put a spotlight on him in a way that someone so 'private', but with a not-so-private/kind-of-obvious - situation, is going to have to deal with in a way they didn't have to before

Would Henry Cavill subject himself to more of that for the Bond role? He's done bearding and related publicity very badly. It's not convincing in the least.

by Anonymousreply 159March 29, 2022 2:08 AM

R159 I have no clue about Cavill. I was referring specifically to Madden.

by Anonymousreply 164March 29, 2022 5:30 AM
Daniel Craig had played a gay role and gone completely nude in a previous movie, and it didn’t seem to hurt his chances

Playing a gay role and actually being gay (with a preference for twinks) are two completely different things in the context of Hollywood (sexual) politics.

by Anonymousreply 165March 29, 2022 5:47 AM
Playing a gay role and actually being gay

Why is there so much biphobia on this forum? Madden has had long relationships with women as well as dating Brandon and Froy. Bridgerton Season 2 just cast an out gay man as their romantic lead and nobody batted an eye.

The Boomers will soon all be dead and if Bond wants to survive it HAS to capture the interest of Gen Z. At the moment they see Bond as 'copaganda' and avoid it.

by Anonymousreply 166March 29, 2022 6:14 AM
Why is there so much biphobia on this forum? Madden has had long relationships with women as well as dating Brandon and Froy. Bridgerton Season 2 just cast an out gay man as their romantic lead and nobody batted an eye.

First, we don't even know if those relationships with women were even genuine relationships, some form of bearding, or him just at that stage still 'working things out' (its been long rumored he knew he was gay/bi, and engaging in the gay life/scene even in his young adult years). Then, there's the fact that plenty of self-identifying gay men have had opposite sex relationships, but still consider themselves to be gay once they figure themselves out. The actual point being made is that, gay or bi, considering the politics of Hollywood, and massive global franchises like Bond, this is going to be a serious issue for them (regardless of if you think it is or not). That's just how Hollywood works. Still.

Bridgerton is not Bond. Two totally different products with two totally different demographics in the context of the entertainment business.

And spare us the "biphobia" line. Here's a shocker, just because someone left out the word 'bi' doesn't mean we're against it. I've written "gay/bi" when referring to Madden (and others) plenty of times.
The Boomers will soon all be dead and if Bond wants to survive it HAS to capture the interest of Gen Z. At the moment they see Bond as 'copaganda' and avoid it.

While it may be time for the Bond franchise to reinvent itself for a new generation, let's not act like having an openly gay/bi Bond is really going to happen anytime soon. If it hasn't happened with other major franchises yet, I highly doubt Bond is going to be the one to take the first leap. Those "Boomers" are still the ones in charge of this thing.

As for Bond being propaganda for cops, that's just ridiculously stupid. People know what Bond is, including Gen Z. Plenty of entertainment properties center around cops, spies, etc. and are still as popular as ever.
I don't think the media would 'out' him. The point I was getting at is will it 'in' him more and more, and is he ok with that?

The media came pretty close to outing him - The New York Times? When they start asking you about why you're living with a gay roommate, and all the "rumors"?

by Anonymousreply 183March 30, 2022 8:24 AM

R182, Ian Fleming didn't approve of Connery at first so what's your point?

by Anonymousreply 184March 30, 2022 2:50 PM

Rege Jean Page is in his 30s and is handsome and a good actor, but he is too boyish and posh. Henry Golding has the same problem.

by Anonymousreply 185March 30, 2022 4:40 PM

Too posh? Bond is supposed to be posh

by Anonymousreply 186March 30, 2022 7:17 PM

Connery and Craig never projected "posh." Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan did and IMO they weren't very good Bonds. I know a lot of people liked them, but I preferred Craig most of all. The others seem out of date.

by Anonymousreply 187March 30, 2022 7:52 PM

R187 I disagree. There is a bit of an air of 'posh' in Bond, all the way back to Connery (who also had a sense of humor). Brosnan was a fantastic Bond. Craig's version is humorless and dry (but perfect for the current times that need everything 'dark and gritty').

by Anonymousreply 188March 31, 2022 11:26 AM

Craig is also my favorite.

Bond is not supposed to be truly posh, per se. Bond is supposed to be a person with working or at best middle class origins who can mingle with the posh because he was raised by a wealthy aunt after his parents died. Before that he traveled a lot with his family. This kind of backstory is what makes him such a good chameleon as a spy, able to fit in anywhere. He is not supposed to be a rich pretty boy who grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth entirely.

by Anonymousreply 189March 31, 2022 7:05 PM

There's just no question in my mind it will go to someone who is not all white.

Either Régé-Jean Page or Henry Goulding or Laverne Cox.

by Anonymousreply 193March 31, 2022 7:27 PM

I wouldn't be upset about Andrew Garfield. Great actor, handsome, capable of action roles - but like Oliver Jackson-Cohen, he is also not a goy, and if they are going to be open-minded enough to cast a Jewish Bond, I'd rather they cast OJC.

R197, I bet a lot of your fellow conservatives are sick of gays and consider shows with gay characters to be woke.

I'm starting to think it could be Jamie Dornan. Irish is not a prob, so long as Bond is from the UK, and Brosnan had Irish heritage.

I mean, he's British. He's supposed to be pasty.

R243, I'm pretty sure they fucked. The publicity for the film she directed him in was weird, she was super into him, fawning, hanging off him etc. Sort of an incesty mom/lover vibe.

by Anonymousreply 251April 4, 2022 7:24 AM

Rege-Jean Page is as strong a candidate as anyone else and maybe stronger than most. Think about this. When was the last time there was anyone like a Black hero like a secret agent? When I was a little kid there was Shaft. remember him? You'd have too be in your 40's or 50's like me to recall John Shaft. Black Panther doesn't count because that's a comic book super hero. And it made a ton of money. So maybe to energize the Bond franchise and expand the audience they chose someone different. It doesn't have to be Page. But c'mon. We sit here wracking our brains coming up with the names of all these white boys, but aside from Idris Elba or Rege-Jean Page, I haven't seen anything resembling a list of men of color. I think of Chiwetel Ejiofor or Daniel Oyelowo, There have to be others.

by Anonymousreply 253April 4, 2022 3:01 PM

R253, try Richard Roundtree? Billed as "the first Black action hero"...John Shaft.

by Anonymousreply 254April 4, 2022 5:20 PM

Both Jonathan Bailey and Rege-Jean Page are very good candidates. They both have chemistry with anyone they work with, they're both gorgeous, they can both act, and they check all the other Bond boxes. I'm suddenly Team The Bridgerton Thing on this.

by Anonymousreply 255April 4, 2022 7:46 PM

Agree with R250 even though I haven't seen him in anything. If they can find a black (or poc) dude who fulfills the brief it's just seizing the cultural moment/good PR for the franchise. Sure some will whine but it'll just be more publicity and then everyone going to see the movie can feel good and anti-racist lol.

R252 Amazon tried having a black hero in their Tom Clancy Without Remorse film and it sadly received nowhere near the same reception as Jack Ryan even adjusting for film vs series format. Amazon is a data driven company so unless doing soft things like “seizing a cultural moment” by casting a black Bond makes sense on paper we simply don’t behave that way. The fact that RGP was the lead in the most watched Netflix show ever also works against him because that makes him too well known and too many preconceived notions pose a risk to the reception of a new Bond. And whoever upthread said Amazon’s acquisition of MGM won’t impact the creative control of the James Bond franchise LOL that’s cute but that’s not how Amazon or this deal works. But by all means keep chattering away about your top pics, it’s creating more datapoints across the internet to scrape into the algorithms

Shaft in 1971, directed by the illustrious Gordon Parks, starring Richard Roundtree. He made three movies: Shaft, Shaft's Big Score, and Shaft in Africa. They are classics of the genre. and a brief 7 episodes TV series in 1973. I am well aware that Samuel Jackson made the movie in 2019. I saw it, and enjoyed the fact that Richard Roundtree played his father, the original Shaft.

Essentially there were two main choices.

One from The United Kingdom and one from Australia,

If the Australian had said yes, he would have had the job in a heartbeat, but he remains hesitant.

At the moment the actor from The United Kingdom essentially has the job.

If the Australian changed his tune and said yes, then it's game over,

by Anonymousreply 364April 22, 2022 11:51 PM

I thought you had said it was a done deal Insider? Does that mean the UK candidate is not Madden? There was never an Australian on the cards before.

by Anonymousreply 366April 23, 2022 12:32 AM

It's probably a Hemsworth. No mystery there. But honestly, if it were Liam it would be a disaster because he is real pretty but he cannot act and has no charisma. Chris is too well defined. Again. Both of them have been around for a while and have generated no heat. And I like them both. And Heath Ledger remains dead. Now. If the Brit is Tom Hardy I will puke. Again well known. Has been around for a while. No heat. Madden has possibilities. Nicholas Hoult, Rege' Jean Page, and, since I am the Alwyn troll, Joe makes sense. Fact is there are several other Brits who make sense. I'm honestly getting bored with this. Announce it and be done, dammit.

They need to go young: a) the turnaround for Bond movies is longer now, 3 to 5 years between films (compared to 2 years prior to the Craig era), if they want to keep the same actor for, say, six films; b) to get younger generations interested in the franchise - right now, the Bond audience skews older compared to other franchises.

by Anonymousreply 412April 30, 2022 2:25 AM

Younger people do go see the Bond films in droves still, but they do statistically have a much larger % of boomer audience membes than any other comparable franchise. They will likely want that ratio to shift by casting someone under 40.

by Anonymousreply 413April 30, 2022 4:09 AM

I think they should hire a smart sexy dangerous looking 28-33 year old and make Bond coldly lethal filled the brim with cum and testosterone.

Rene Page was good in Bridgerton but useless in Emily in Paris. He doesn't come across as tough, more as spazzy. He had chemistry with the girl who plays Daphne and that's why he did well in Bridgerton but I don't think he's a good enough actor for Bond.

by Anonymousreply 418April 30, 2022 10:42 PM

He's a better actor than Henry Cavill, at least

by Anonymousreply 419April 30, 2022 11:14 PM

Henry wasn't bad in The Tudors. And he can do comedy...sort of....I think he's fine in period dramas that aren't too demanding. Like, Henry could never do Shakespeare.

Ioan Gruffudd

by Anonymousreply 433May 3, 2022 12:36 AM

Gruffudd is too old at this point

by Anonymousreply 434May 3, 2022 12:48 AM

There is definitely going to be a major MAJOR rethink. The traditional Bond fan base is aging out, and the key age group needs to brought right down into the twenties. That means the new Bond will be far younger than is usual (younger and leaner than Henry Cavill for sure, who is definite no), and the productions themselves will also be leaner and hungrier. No Time To Die was a whale of a movie in terms of costs, and while (as the Mission Impossible movies show) there is room for expensive blockbusters,Babs and Michael would be very conscious that production costs will need to brought down going forward, particularly under the new studio partner.

Cavill is 38 going on 39 -- waaay too old for the new mandate, and as stiff as a board in terms of acting, and hopeless in terms of chemistry with women. They would be looking for someone young and pliable like Harry Styles, but who also appeals to the older fan base. Tricky. Styles doesn't do that due to his antics.

by Anonymousreply 435May 3, 2022 10:28 AM

I love how some deluded folk are trying to make Styles happen.

Thanks for the laughs.

by Anonymousreply 436May 3, 2022 11:19 AM

I wouldn’t rule Harry out. Let’s see how his new movie does.

by Anonymousreply 437May 3, 2022 3:56 PM

I doubt Harry has what it takes to win the role: expertise at knocking a menopausal woman's socks off with his tongue game.

by Anonymousreply 438May 3, 2022 11:59 PM

Just to weigh in on the Styles speculation, actors with significant tattoos are/were ruled out. Barbara hates them with a passion. She will tolerate a small 'marker' or two on an arm, but she wont abide by anything larger than a cm or two in diameter. She cringes at actors/people that tattoo there upper torsos. By all means, though, continue on with all these silly suggestions.

by Anonymousreply 439May 4, 2022 12:28 AM

Does it sound to anyone else like they might have had a direction in mind but have recently changed it? There's no way this is a brand new search and there's no way it takes years to pick one guy.

Rupert Friend

by Anonymousreply 441May 4, 2022 2:47 AM
Gruffudd is too old at this point

by Anonymousreply 443May 6, 2022 2:51 AM

Yeah, and in Moore's last few Bond films everyone joked about him looking too old. And if he's 48 now he will be AT LEAST 50 when the next one is finally released

by Anonymousreply 444May 6, 2022 2:54 AM

How fucking long does it take to find someone?!

by Anonymousreply 445May 6, 2022 2:56 AM

But here's the thing. The Bond movies don't come out as frequently as they did when Sean Connery made them. How many years in between Craig's Bond movies. No one wants to see a 60 yea old James Bond. Accept the fact he will be younger. And honestly, Variety was full of shit. That is old news about Hardy, Cavill, and Elba. They have nothing so they recycle. My own personal opinion is anyone but Daniel Kaluuya.

by Anonymousreply 446May 6, 2022 2:56 AM

R444 Okay, but he doesn't actually look that old.

by Anonymousreply 454May 6, 2022 5:08 AM

Leo Suter is hot as hell, too

by Anonymousreply 455May 6, 2022 5:10 AM

They want someone who is in the same position Craig was before they nabbed him. Someone who is not hugely famous, but is well known, and who has mad acting skills. IMO, I'm convinced it will be a person of color. I think Black Panther sent a loud message, that there is definitely a market. Right now there is a gap in spy thrillers.

by Anonymousreply 456May 6, 2022 1:19 PM

If they go for a "person of color" (oh how I hate that term), I'd love to see them go against the grain and cast a British South Asian actor. Pasha Bocarie (formerly on Emmerdale) probably lacks a high-enough profile, but he's gorgeous.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 457May 6, 2022 3:46 PM

Pasha is not unattractive but I find him quite plain. But I'd be all for a British South Asian actor.

by Anonymousreply 458May 6, 2022 5:49 PM

I posted the Leo Suter pics above. I never thought of him before even though I have seen him in Sanditon, Beecham and Victoria (though I didn't realize that was him when I first saw Sanditon or Beecham). But now I am firmly in his corner for this.

He is known enough and respected as an actor but not identified or tied to anything specific. He can look suave and sexy. He looks very British MI-6 like. Though he has a good body he still looks svelte yet masculine in a tuxedo. I suppose they may want to take a completely different direction, but he fits the standard James Bond type, and he may add some much-needed mischief to the mix. He also seems like a genuinely nice and down to earth guy despite what looks like a posh background (St. Paul's, Oxford).

Okay I talked myself into it. I am now Team Leo.

by Anonymousreply 459May 6, 2022 6:04 PM

R459, I think he'd make a good Bond too. I wonder if the Bond producers have him on their radar

by Anonymousreply 461May 6, 2022 6:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 462May 6, 2022 6:57 PM

Isn't Madden a midget? I think Madden is sexy but not James Bondish - too rough looking.

by Anonymousreply 463May 6, 2022 8:28 PM

Madden is about the same size as Daniel Craig

by Anonymousreply 464May 6, 2022 8:38 PM

r458, which British South Asian actor would you recommend? I'll preemptively nix Riz Ahmed -- too famous, too short, too racist. He probably doesn't want it, either.

by Anonymousreply 465May 6, 2022 8:41 PM

My advice would be to pick a dude who'll be 30 at the time of the next release.

by Anonymousreply 466May 6, 2022 8:44 PM

Midgets all of them!

Both Madden & Craig say 5'10". But men always lie about their digits.

by Anonymousreply 467May 6, 2022 8:47 PM

Chiwetel Ejiofor. Mad acting chops, Black, British, well known but not famous. Plus he probably wouldn't cost as much as Idris Elba. If they go Asian, they have to consider Henry Golding.

by Anonymousreply 472May 6, 2022 9:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 473May 6, 2022 9:23 PM

Nicholas Hoult or Joe Alwyn. Perfect age. Otherwise it's a non- white person. Or Tom Hardy. Or Richard Madden. Or Rege Jean Page. By the way. How old is Matthew Goode? Because he would be better than Hardy or Madden. I've been watching a couple of his movies and he is hot and a really fine actor.

by Anonymousreply 480May 7, 2022 3:36 AM
Joe Alwyn

Please no. We don't need another Taylor Swift cuck. You just know she'd insist on providing the next Bond song.

by Anonymousreply 481May 7, 2022 3:54 AM

Goode is 44, so same age issue as many other suggestions. He's a talented actor, but he was laughably bad in the one action film I recall him being a part of. Madden at least can convince me he's able to fight. (As can Elba and Hardy, though I only consider the former a talented actor.)

by Anonymousreply 482May 7, 2022 4:34 AM
How old is Matthew Goode? Because he would be better than Hardy or Madden.

I like Matthew Goode, but he's 44, so would seem to be out of contention.

Since Barbara Broccoli has known for 3 years now that Craig would not be doing another Bond, if she's really "still looking" then something is up. Half of the contenders are aging out of the part, so I think she may have her eyes on some young pups who may still be a bit too green and/or haven't quite broken through yet. That also indicates that some of the Flavors of the Month (i.e. Rege-Jean Page) are not seriously in contention, otherwise wouldn't she just snatch them up and be done with it?

by Anonymousreply 483May 7, 2022 4:35 AM

They just rebooted Bond and then killed him off. How the series continues is up in the air. They have to decide how the story continues before they decide who continues it.

by Anonymousreply 484May 7, 2022 6:08 AM

Well Babs has been so caught up with Daniel, producing plays and whatnot, she hasn't had time to think about Bond. She's been cavorting with Bill Shakespeare.

by Anonymousreply 502May 8, 2022 2:56 PM
What's with the whole "Bond requires a 'real' actor with major chops" sort of thing?

Babs has made it very plain in interviews her admiration for how Craig's acting ability brought *in her opinion* new depth to the character. So she would definitely be focusing on that aspect as much as their physicality.

Maybe that's what they mean by going in a different direction - did they ever say that or did I just make that up?

If they need an actor with major acting chops that knocks out some of those earlier pretty boy guesses.

by Anonymousreply 505May 8, 2022 4:53 PM

Given the budget is likely to be pulled in, particularly in the first film given the risks of a new face, AND the new studio who EON have to deal with, good acting and plotting are cheaper than massive sets, which they could afford in No Time To Die with the certainty of Craig's popularity. I'm still amazed that the vast algae tank set, that took up the entire 007 stage, and would have cost the budget of some small movies, only got about 2 or 3 minutes of screen time in the final edit. That's an extravagance we won't be seeing again for a while.

by Anonymousreply 506May 8, 2022 6:25 PM

R502 sounds really racist. How dare they cast a black guy as a fictional person in a fantasy show!

by Anonymousreply 507May 8, 2022 6:30 PM

Idris Elba

by Anonymousreply 508May 8, 2022 6:32 PM

R507, it isn't racist to discuss the attributes, including physical attributes, of a new actor playing an iconic role. The same discussions were had when they cast Jodie Comer.

It's also a discussion to be had if fans view this as just being "woke" and not a good fit. I know nothing of this actor but he is on a popular show in the UK, Bad Education. At least I think it's popular. Is he gay? I just saw a video of him as himself in a promo vid and he seems adorable. He could be a fun Doctor.

I'm thinking Fassbender. Don't know why. It just came to me this morning while I was reading this thread. Yeah. Michael Fassbender. Hardy won't take it. UNLESS: They really want someone younger, to save money and refresh the franchise. Then it will be someone in their late 20's. Early 30's. Maybe Henry Golding.

by Anonymousreply 516May 9, 2022 1:29 PM

hey u all da world is woke ! it will be a person of color chosen, but not dark.

by Anonymousreply 517May 9, 2022 1:33 PM

Fassbender - too old

by Anonymousreply 518May 9, 2022 5:17 PM

Fassbender is also a serious race car driver. Currently part of a Le Mans team and enjoying it. He's 45. If they decide to make him Bond, He will get ten good years at it. He has that air of menace and humor. I think he'd be good. Hardy has no discernable sense of humor. He has carb face.

by Anonymousreply 519May 9, 2022 6:29 PM

Fassbender has a bad reputation. He's beaten several exes, cheated on a few more (once with a teenager) and is said to be "difficult" to work with. He also looks like a reptile and is in his mid 40s. Too old, too much baggage. It'll be Shawn Mendes before it's him.

by Anonymousreply 527May 10, 2022 2:46 AM

That Liam guy looks cute but he looks kinda baby faced. Is that what they're going for?

by Anonymousreply 528May 10, 2022 5:17 AM

Young James Bond is almost certainly what they'll go for.

by Anonymousreply 529May 10, 2022 6:30 AM

I hope whoever it isn’t past 30. I don’t want it to be someone late 30’s/40 who will only be able to do a one or two movies before aging out and they have to go through this long ass search again.

by Anonymousreply 530May 10, 2022 6:33 AM

Gen Z demanding Bond be some 20 something from the likes of the CW network by the sounds of it.

Someone from Teen Woolf?

Sorry Gen Z but it aint all about you.

by Anonymousreply 531May 10, 2022 7:07 AM

R531 I’m not Gen Z - I’m 40 years old and even I want someone younger. There’s no point in having someone around my age who will age out fast and then we’re back at square one. Someone younger will be able to stick around for several movies.

by Anonymousreply 532May 10, 2022 7:12 AM

R532 probably wants someone like Timothy Chalamet. LOL.

by Anonymousreply 533May 10, 2022 10:54 AM

If they have to go younger, may I suggest R531 someone called Froy Gutierrez, I heard he is very good, especially with the ladies .

by Anonymousreply 534May 10, 2022 11:16 AM

Bond is a man's man if you will. He has to be in his 30's to convey that hyper masculinity.

Getting someone just out of twinkdom is absurd.

by Anonymousreply 535May 10, 2022 1:31 PM

Agreed. I don't necessarily mind someone in their 40s if they seem sufficiently vigorous, but 20s is too young. No twentysomething can convey the requisite world weariness and savvy except maybe Dakota Fanning, and the world sure isn't ready for *her* as James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 536May 10, 2022 2:11 PM

Bond will be a youngish woman and the whole first movie will be about her F to M transition.

by Anonymousreply 537May 10, 2022 2:14 PM

R536, that would be stunning and brave!

by Anonymousreply 538May 10, 2022 2:18 PM

R537 is the troll who makes everything about trans people

by Anonymousreply 539May 10, 2022 4:58 PM

If someone is in their late 20s now it seems old enough because they aren't even filming yet - do they even have a script?

But I agree it has to seem like a man's man.

by Anonymousreply 540May 10, 2022 5:00 PM

[R534] LOL That was a good one Richard!

by Anonymousreply 541May 10, 2022 5:37 PM

How can people be so blind to the hot sexiness of Joe?????

by Anonymousreply 542May 10, 2022 7:27 PM

Who the fuck is she looking for? Cary Carrot?

We are bored by now.

by Anonymousreply 543May 10, 2022 8:23 PM

It's taken so long, it's as other people have said - we can only conclude they had someone picked out already and it didn't work out at the 11th hour and they had to start from square one.

by Anonymousreply 544May 10, 2022 9:22 PM

We don't want an Australian surfer playing Bond, so no to the Hemsworths.

Joe Alwyn is getting savage reviews for Conversations with Friends. He's just not charismatic and dynamic enough to play Bond.

by Anonymousreply 545May 11, 2022 9:02 AM

I think a younger Bond makes total sense, and I think that's the way they will go. As well as a fresh take on the concept. If they want the franchise to survive as an ever viable, relevant property, then they have to make the franchise work for the next generation. So some evolution of the whole Bond concept will need to happen, eventually. Considering they ended the Craig series with a quite a real 'end' to the character, hitting the full reboot button would make sense now.

I still highly doubt someone like Harry Styles would get it. He's def not the Bond persona. But someone like Madden seems too late now too. Plus he may be 35, but he already looks 45. And, at least to me, he seems like he would be 'more of the same', rather than real fresh take. But who knows, maybe they just want 'more of the same'...

by Anonymousreply 546May 11, 2022 10:00 AM

a non binary Bond, a transgender boss, and an ensemble of POC cast!

by Anonymousreply 547May 11, 2022 10:12 AM

It will be both younger and lighter. There's been criticism that the Craig era was too dour, and dug itself into a hole: there's a desire to bring back -- particularly with the world getting darker -- the piss-take cheekiness that English humour excels at. So the actor selected will have to deliver that well. Methinks it will be someone in the Harry Styles mode: he's inherently cheeky, and doesn't take himself too seriously. Audiences respond to that. That's why I'm certain Henry Cavill doesn't have a hope. It's just not his persona. He's too leaden. The humour will also distinguish the films from the Mission Impossible franchise, which has been edging in on their territory, and which they'd be very conscious of. The only thing currently separating them is the stylistic elegance of Bond. So they need to widen the gap between the brands.

by Anonymousreply 548May 11, 2022 10:46 AM

Henry Golding is NOT "English" or "Swiss" looking. Which is what James Bond the character is.

by Anonymousreply 549May 11, 2022 11:22 AM

Lordy please not a woke choice ok?

by Anonymousreply 550May 11, 2022 12:31 PM

Bill Skarsgard....he is hung as fuk too.

by Anonymousreply 551May 11, 2022 12:44 PM

R551 is he hung? Pics!!!! And despite being "Gautier Runway Freak" handsome and perhaps able to look menacing, he doesn't look like a Swiss-British secret agent.

by Anonymousreply 552May 11, 2022 12:46 PM

Alwyn comes across OK in Conversations with Friends. It is the story itself that has been described as disappointing and thin, and not worth 10 episodes, and not up to the standards of Normal People. I mean, he doesn't stand out as being awful. So he hasn't hut himself. One review described him as "a dashing romantic lead." The story itself is crap. No one will remember or care. I've seen him in 4 movies and he was fine. In fact in a couple he was very good. Operation Finale, Billy Lynn's Long Half time Walk, The Favourite, and May Queen of Scots.

by Anonymousreply 553May 11, 2022 3:07 PM

The right-wing troll at r547 is the loser who whines about trans or non-binary people in every thread

by Anonymousreply 554May 11, 2022 3:47 PM

R549, he's half white. And most of the guys who've been cast in the role are quite different from what Ian Fleming intended

by Anonymousreply 555May 11, 2022 3:48 PM

Fleming gave Bond a Scottish ancestry after being impressed with Connery in Dr. No.

by Anonymousreply 556May 11, 2022 4:07 PM

Dan Stevens gets my vote. He looks cunning.

by Anonymousreply 557May 11, 2022 4:16 PM

R556, there are no do-overs.

Would a Scot have ever risen in the ranks of the intelligence services outside of the necessities of war? British government could be pretty snobby, to put it mildly.

by Anonymousreply 558May 11, 2022 4:19 PM

Austin Butler would have got it ages ago had he been English. Harry Styles would have got it had he been less successful and famous as a singer. Both have exactly the right look and Styles is an athlete who could do a lot of his own stunts. He just got fired out of a circus cannon and walked on a tightrope for his most recent video.

by Anonymousreply 559May 11, 2022 9:25 PM

But the tats . . .

by Anonymousreply 560May 11, 2022 10:14 PM

R533 Nope. Can’t stand him.

by Anonymousreply 561May 11, 2022 10:21 PM
If someone is in their late 20s now it seems old enough because they aren't even filming yet - do they even have a script?

Exactly. With the way they take so fucking long choosing someone and if they still need to write a script, it will be another 2 years before they even start filming (if not longer).

by Anonymousreply 562May 11, 2022 10:28 PM

I’m glad they might want to lighten the mood with the next Bond. The world has plenty of room and gloom right now.

by Anonymousreply 563May 11, 2022 11:58 PM

I agree. Fun and buoyant doesn't mean superficial and thinly written.

by Anonymousreply 564May 12, 2022 4:36 AM

Harry Styles is promoting another music video that has him at least half naked and cuddling a baby. Theo James is premiering the Time Traveler's Wife with Rose Leslie for HBO. I don't think either one is a contender for Bond. But out of those two I'd lean towards James. Henry Golding seems very much a possibility. So does Rege Jean Page.

by Anonymousreply 565May 12, 2022 2:45 PM

A black or asian Bond ain't gonna happen, so Page and Golding can put their resumes back in their pockets.

Eon (the Bond production house) had enough trouble trying to roll back the "this movie is gonna be woke" scare with No Time To Die, after Phoebe Waller-Bridge was announced as one of the writers, and then the first trailer cut to showcase a black woman belittling Bond. They couldn't have made a bigger mistake if she was trans and Craig sucked her cock, and they soon knew it. I'm sure Barbara and Michael, and the studio and distributors were alarmed by the scale of the pushback, which was magnified by lazy journos looking for angle. It cost the franchise major goodwill with the existing older male fan base, which is their core constituency. Yes, they urgently need to expand the fan base now to younger viewers, which they're full cognizant of, but there's no way they can now afford to risk pissing it off the core fans with stunt casting that could be tagged, rightly or wrongly, as wokery. They've just crawled out of that nightmare: they wouldn't want to go back in. They're also conscious that with the uniqueness of the franchise being nibbled away at by competitors, it's the very Englishness of the brand which adds distinction and appeal.

by Anonymousreply 566May 12, 2022 3:10 PM

I guess r566 is the kind of person who thinks giving a black actor a supporting role in a movie is "woke"

I didn't hear many complaints about the actual movie, just the stupid pre-release buzz that made it seem like Lashana Lynch was the new James Bond when she was just taking over "007"

by Anonymousreply 567May 12, 2022 3:38 PM

I think Naomi Harris is terrific. And Lashana Lynch has great screen presence. But shoot the messager R567 to flag your marvellous and flawless virtue. To repeat: the key market badly responded to the 1st trailer cut of a woman belittling Bond. That she was also black, didn't help. The key market pushed back with the message that you can update Bond without neutering him. When the movie came out it wasn't particularly woke, except Bond had been turned into mushy husband material. But social media damage had been done.

by Anonymousreply 568May 12, 2022 3:56 PM

Yes, because if one woman yells at him one time that means he's neutered!

The whining about virtue signaling just makes you sound like the leader of the Matt Gaetz fan club.

by Anonymousreply 569May 12, 2022 5:19 PM

It's James fucking Bond. Not a purse holder. If you want to please your stakeholders, and ensure you make money, you don't pussy whip James Bond. And it wasn't just a 'buzz'. The endless social rants on the perception of wokism (pick any: this one at the link scored half a million views) profoundly damaged the marketing campaign, as did the endless Bond goes woke articles. It would have spooked them. They made $750 mil in pandemic, which was an incredible achievement against all the naysaying, but that first trailer and the storm it provoked likely cost them millions more in lost ticket sales from their core male market. That's what a few seconds of a scene without context in a trailer can do. That's why they will surely be steering a different safe course this time.

Adam Driver would make the perfect James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 571May 12, 2022 5:59 PM

R570 loves the intellectual discourse of YouTube videos whining about "woke" shit.

by Anonymousreply 572May 12, 2022 6:22 PM

Adam Driver?

People are just grasping at straws now

by Anonymousreply 573May 12, 2022 6:23 PM

[ quote] I’m glad they might want to lighten the mood with the next Bond. The world has plenty of room and gloom right now.

In that case, just get Graham Norton, but they'll end up with Corden.

by Anonymousreply 574May 13, 2022 5:15 AM

You want lightness and comedy? They ought to do a sequel to Spy, with Jude Law, Melissa Mc Carthy. I love that movie.

by Anonymousreply 575May 13, 2022 2:49 PM

Bond needs to be 6ft, muscled, dark hair, light eyes, under 35. No dodgy characters like Theo James who started out in kids' franchises or milksops like Alwyn who've never carried off a leading role with aplomb. Danielle Craig had been the lead in cool films like Layer Cake and Sylvia.

by Anonymousreply 576May 14, 2022 1:09 AM

Pierce Brosnan did bad TV, George Lazenby was a male model with no acting experience, Connery hadn't been in too many memorable films.

by Anonymousreply 577May 14, 2022 1:20 AM
Pierce Brosnan did bad TV, George Lazenby was a male model with no acting experience, Connery hadn't been in too many memorable films.

And I was, um, a saint.

by Anonymousreply 578May 14, 2022 1:22 AM

In addition to not being British, Adam Driver is one of the ugliest most awkward-looking men working in Hollywood right now. Please no.

by Anonymousreply 579May 14, 2022 10:45 PM

Anyone remember Timothy Dalton as Bond? Hot.

by Anonymousreply 580May 15, 2022 12:53 AM

Hell, I'd watch if they offered him the role as Bond NOW.
You want lightness and comedy? They ought to do a sequel to Spy, with Jude Law, Melissa Mc Carthy. I love that movie.

The problem is, it's a comedy that McCarthy's talentless husband had nothing to do with, and she apparently doesn't make that sort of movie anymore.

by Anonymousreply 581May 15, 2022 2:35 AM

Timothy Dalton still looks amazing for his age on Doom Patrol.

by Anonymousreply 582May 15, 2022 3:32 AM

He also did amazing work in Penny Dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 583May 15, 2022 3:35 AM

Dalton is a hot daddy

by Anonymousreply 584May 15, 2022 3:47 AM

Just watching Alwyn in Conversations with Friends and he's way too passive and softly spoken to be Bond. He's like that in all his roles too.

by Anonymousreply 585May 17, 2022 1:39 AM

When I saw him in Operation Finale as a young Neo Nazi, and in Harriet as the Plantation owner, he wasn't soft spoken or passive. I think he would rise to the occasion to be Bond, but I don't think he'll be the one.

by Anonymousreply 586May 17, 2022 2:05 AM

If Alwyn lost 20 lbs, muscled up and was always clean shaven, he could pull it off. His beard is wispy and pale and demasculizes him.

Taylor Swift's Next Single:

Forget Harry Styles, Calvin Harris and Earl

You made me your very own Bond girl.

by Anonymousreply 587May 17, 2022 7:42 AM

alwyn mus be gay, he is taylor swift's beard....

by Anonymousreply 588May 17, 2022 10:45 AM

No matter how cleanshaven he gets, Joe Alwyn always looks hungover from a 3-day binge where he hasn't slept at all.

by Anonymousreply 589May 17, 2022 7:12 PM

That would not hurt him as Bond.

by Anonymousreply 590May 19, 2022 1:05 AM

Jack Lowden just won a "rising star" award at Cannes. I really think he would be a good Bond.

by Anonymousreply 591May 23, 2022 2:41 PM

The rumour in London is that the next Bond will be Tom Hardy.

by Anonymousreply 592May 23, 2022 3:44 PM

That would be disappointing, R582.

by Anonymousreply 593May 23, 2022 4:05 PM

I've been on the Jack Lowden as Bond train for a while now. He'd be great and is just at the point of his career where it would really raise his profile.

by Anonymousreply 594May 23, 2022 6:03 PM

I've only been aware of Jack Lowden since I saw Benediction late last year and he is my top pick for Bond.

by Anonymousreply 595May 24, 2022 2:39 PM

Too boyish. Barbara Broccoli wants a MAN. Someone I knew who worked in PR and marketing for movies said they dreaded Bond movies because Barbara Broccoli was hell to deal with. A real pain in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 596May 24, 2022 4:49 PM

Jack Lowden is plenty manly.

by Anonymousreply 597May 24, 2022 11:47 PM

Agree with r597 👍

by Anonymousreply 598May 25, 2022 12:44 AM

R592 I think Hardy would have made a terrific Bond -- several years ago. I fear he's aged out of the role. Even if they were filming [italic]right this very minute[/italic], he'd still be 6 years older than Craig was in CASINO ROYALE.
