Was it ‘cos roommate Gwynnie Paltrow stole the script for Shakespeare in Love and got an Oscar. Or homewrecker ho Angie Jolie upstaged her in Girl, Interrupted the year before?
Why did Winona Ryder lift Saks 5th Ave?

I heard she was borderline. There were a lot of blind items easily traced back to her when she was young and starring in almost everything. Piece of work she sounded like.

Who said that? I've never heard anyone say she's "nice." Freaky, twitchy. nervous, crazy, a klepto, a druggie, but not "nice."

I think it's a tragedy that she was one of the biggest stars of the 90s but doesn't have an Oscar while Goop has one. Meg Ryan is another 90s relic now who was never awarded for her services to the film industry.

Celebrities "defending" each other is about maintaining the huge green wall of fame and money, and future favors for all fellow celebs "in the club".
None of that vouchsafing is believable.

Ms Ryder, who was in a relationship with Mr Depp for four years, said: "I understand that it is very important that I speak from my own experience, as I obviously was not there during his marriage to Amber, but, from my experience, which was so wildly different, I was absolutely shocked, confused and upset when I heard the accusations against him.
"The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved.
"I cannot wrap my head around these accusations. He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen.
"I truly and honestly only know him as a really good man - an incredibly loving, extremely caring guy who was so very protective of me and the people that he loves, and I felt so very, very safe with him.
"I do not want to call anyone a liar but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true. I find it extremely upsetting, knowing him as I do."

R19 In her witness statement, musician, actress and model Ms Paradis said she had known Mr Depp for more than 25 years - including 14 years when they were partners and raised their two children together.
"Through all these years I've known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous and non-violent person and father," she said.
"On movie sets the actors, directors and entire crews adore him because he is humble and respectful to everyone, as well as being one of the best actors we've seen."
Ms Paradis' statement said the allegations from Ms Heard were "nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me".
"I have seen that these outrageous statements have been really distressing, and also caused damage to his career because unfortunately people have gone on believing these false facts," she added.
R19 Shut the fuck up.

She needed to go away for a while so that when she came back we’d all fall in love with her again. She takes my breath away when I see her onscreen. I’m so happy that she’s making a comeback and hope she can rise to the level of success she’d set previously.

Love the idea of gwyneth as some sort of cut throat competition eliminator all the while extolling the virtues of crystals and mindful sh*t. She has had a few actress acquaintances who tragically saw their careers take a tumble for personal reasons. Didn’t she audition for “husbands & wives”after emily lloyd got fired but Juliette Lewis got the part. Seems she was simply in the right place at the right time for some of these roles like Shakespeare in love… still can’t see Winona doing that role and I was a big fan of hers in the 90s and early 00s.
As for the Oscar r16 I think it’s just a footnote in history at this point. And the weinstein scandal made a lot of people look back and question that whole era and the politics involved.
Hollywood in the 90s was all a bit “all about eve” meets “showgirls” with Emily lloyd being replaced in mermaids by Winona and then Winona’s reign being succeeded by Paltrow.

Shoplifting like that is supposedly a sign that someone feels lost and unseen by the world. They are subconsciously looking for attention goes the theory.
Winona didn't just steal, she frantically tried to break off the security tags in the dressing room. Really odd behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 22, 2022 6:27 AM |
R26 I am not here to defend bitch act-less Heard, but nothing lawyered up celebrities say about each other can be taken at face value. They all know what is exactly at stake, and never know when the other person will be in a position to help or hurt them in the future, career-wise.
It is purely in their interest to collude in public image making. Even the Weinstein thing hasn't changed that. He must've pissed off someone with a lot more power to have been rolled like that after all that time. A much bigger fish put their foot down, obviously or he'd still be fingering starlets to this day. When the balance of power had obviously shifted, you saw how quickly the rats abandoned that ship to save their own hides.
Crims, pols and celebs don't rat on each other. It's bad for business. Unless suddenly not doing so will be worse for them.

I remember when Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder were the rebel "It" couple back in the day. They were supposedly forever in love; he even had "Winona Forever" carved into his arm (It just says "Wino Forever" now). Anyway, here some of the shit they said about each other. In hindsight, it's hilarious. They both sound like idiots:
Depp: “When I met Winona and we fell in love, it was absolutely like nothing before. We hung out the whole day… and night, and we’ve been hanging out ever since. I love her more than anything in the whole world.”
Depp: “I’d die for her. I love her so much. I don’t know what I would do without her. She’s going through a lot right now. I wish I could just kiss away the pain, make it go away, stop it, kill it! If she, you know, I don’t know what I would do. I’d kill myself. I love that girl. I love her. I love her almost more than I love myself.” - Johnny Depp on Winona Ryder (1989).
Ryder: “i can’t get him out of my head! it’s like I'm always seeing his image in my head. my life has changed for the better since I'm with johnny. he’s so amazing!”
Ryder: “Crazy For You” by Madonna is like our song. It’s so close to us. We have all these songs we cherish. When we first met, “Take My Breathe Away” by Berlin was on. That’s our first song. But “Crazy For You” describes our relationship. Maybe a possible wedding song, I hope. We’ll have to see what Johnny thinks.
Ryder: “When I met Johnny, I was pure virgin. He changed that. He was my first everything. My first real kiss. My first real boyfriend. My first fiancé. The first guy I had sex with. So he’ll always be in my heart. Forever. Kind of funny that word.”

Her mistake was fighting the thing and getting a sleazy lawyer like Mark Geragos.
She should have admitted her mental/pill problems. Cried about it on Oprah and she'd have been accepted back easily. (like Hugh Grant)
Instead the trial and all prolonged it for like a year.

R39 well I’m sure if it had just been along the lines of something embarrassing (like Hugh Grant) she would have done that but this is actually something people go to jail for - so she had to fight it.
I also can’t get over how mousy and nothing Goop looked in that 1992 photo. Shit.

[quote] Celebrities "defending" each other is about maintaining the huge green wall of fame and money, and future favors for all fellow celebs "in the club".
It's always women defending men. Men don't defend women celebrities. Eg, Terry Crews. Women came to his defense when he said he was grabbed by the balls. Then, said Gabrielle Union's problems were not his problems because he only is responsible for his wife.
Jodie Foster, Whoopi Goldberg, the list goes on and on. Women defending men, for what?

Rich white women get to steal a certain dollar amount of stuff.
If rich white women came equipped with hammers, knives, and guns, and swarmed stores in broad daylight while wearing hoods and masks, that would be a very interesting story. It's usually not white women who do this. It's white women who find a way to excuse this.
I'm not saying that middle class white women shouldn't be brazen criminals, it just doesn't seem to be in their bailiwick.
