LiveJournal

Were you a member? Did you make friends there? Did you ever check out specific LJ accounts?

It still exists...I think!

Loved the Semihorrible LJ page, which cheerfully dragged DL fave Sandra Lee every day.

So many dramatic gays on that site

I had some mates abandon older methods in favor of blogging and LJ was considered one of the more streamlined in it's day in requiring very little user input.

But the environment (as with it's clones) quickly morphed into a tumblr-like atmosphere of dysfunction and histronics as a more interactive community than traditional, more self contained, blogs.

The worst group back then was the thinspo crowd... and often overlooked as it is offline was the sheer number of male ana/mia there. But in general, the usual cliques formed and were a bit more zealous in their search for wrongthink - which was in no way limited to the kiddies.

But more kiddies were still drawn to myspace and the like instead and the older crowds would inevitably ragequit... so, it's crybulling antics didn't gain as much traction as they did with the later tumblr.

^ I should say thinspo and self harm, but they often overlapped.

Nothing good ever happened on Livejournal. Anorexics, cutters, and teenage drug addicts.

It still exists, but the hilarious celeb gossip groups are mostly gone now.

R7 not surprising, no one's used LJ for much for years

r8 still it's a bit of fun going through DL's references

[quote] Lots of fraus come here to dis their crushes or write overtly sexual fantasies about them because they can't do that on LiveJournal or the IMDB boards or wherever they hang out these days. They can trade Stalker Notes™ and find other crazy fraus to answer them

[quote] This according to a US social analyst.Danah Boyd says Facebook's arrival sparked a migration from MySpace of white users, the educated and the wealthy, while non-whites had stuck together on MySpace. "We might as well face an uncomfortable reality ... what happened was modern day 'white flight'."Ms Boyd said MySpace had become a digital "ghetto"."The people there are more likely to be brown or black and to have a set of values that terrifies white society," she said.

[quote] First off, let me point out that Danah Boyd -- who likes to go by the uncapitalized danah boyd -- is one of the so-called advisers to LiveJournal on their Advisory Board, which is why I know her a bit. She takes herself VERY seriously, and she's always prattling on about how certain issues on LiveJournal would be so GREAT for her interns to do some research on. She's very interested in getting herself on television as an expert and/or pundit, and she has a history of editing her own Wikipedia page, which is why it's HUGE even though she's not a notable person. Tiresome, pretentious, and clueless is my impression of her.

[quote] For what it's worth, it wasn't just going on here. Over on Journalfen, LiveJournal, and plenty of other sites there were tons of young straight girl fans pretending to be gay men with this Elijah-Dom thing. I'd bet anything that some of those exposed as pretending to be men on JF were also over here on DL doing the same thing. These people are crazy. The worst group were the ladies who loved Snape in Harry Potter movies so much that they think they're married to Snape on another plane of existence. The LOTR crazies are tame in comparison.

Which begs the question: fraus or frau-fatales

I had one about 20 years ago and yes I made a few friends there. I’m still in touch with one or two of them.

by Anonymousreply 10March 17, 2022 4:12 AM

I made a dozen or so friends on there....it was circa 2005.
