I seem to recall a “La Dolce Musto” column in which Michael spotted William backstage after winning his best actor Oscar and thought he looked as though he was thinking, oh crap, I’ve got to take this acting thing seriously now.

My favorite Hurt performance was as Oberon for Shakespeare in the Park. He used his natural weirdness super effectively.

Great actor who appeared in a number of great films.

You probably had to have been around in the 1980's to appreciate how much he was respected during that time.

Also worked with an eclectic bunch of actresses over the years including Blair Brown, Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, Sissy Spacek (twice), Elizabeth Perkins, Kathleen Turner (twice), Marlee Matlin, Holly Hunter, Geena Davis, Renee Zellweger, Miranda Richardson, Juliette Binoche, Mia Farrow, Christine Lahti, Meg Tilly, Glenn Close, Mary Kay Place......just wow.

I watched an 1980 film of his with Sigorney Weaver. It was a murder-thriller and was quite good. I recommend it to anyone who likes his hot 80s look.

And it was very slooooow. Watched again a few months ago. Hurt plays a janitor under suspicion of murder and Sigourney plays a TV reporter.
