I never had much luck on Grindr in Los Angeles or San Diego, for that matter. I never took it personally because a vast majority of guys on that app in LA effeminate bottoms, which I don’t want (I’m a cocksucker).

I am a young looking, handsome, fit/skinny black guy and I was NOT popular at all during my week there a few years ago.

Literally, in west LA, you could set your filter to only show 18-35 year-old tops and you’d see profiles 50 miles away would show up. There were a lot of profiles that said “white/Latino only” as well.

Which isn’t to say fit white tops in other cities aren’t also in very high demand, but it’s not as stark as in LA. I drove hours around LA and San Diego without a single message, despitr being called handsome in person.

Everyone has their preferences and as long as they aren’t hurting anyone, I really couldn’t give two fucks. But LA is extremely superficial and if you aren’t a fit white or Latin top, under 35, and “masculine” 😂 you simply won’t get too much interest there, platonically or sexually.

If I could do it all over again? I’d avoid the bars like the plague. But I was raised in bar culture. My parents met in a bar and belonged to bar sports teams. I just shifted venues. The situation, as described, sucks for this young guy. I was aware of this African American guy in San Diego who’d hang out at Peacock Alley and Club West Coast in the nineties. Complete and utter snow queen.
