‘Love, Victor’ season 3 will be its final season
HULU has decided to end the show with its upcoming third season, and will come out June 15!
I’m so sad about this. I loved the first season, but only liked the second, however I still liked it. But I had a feeling it wouldn’t last long because season 2 didn’t generate the buzz and attention the first one did, so I assume not as many people were watching it.
Shame, it’s a fun show. But the first season was so cute and charming.

I liked it. In these times when the anti-gay fascists are crawling out from under their rocks yet again. Think the kids need a show like this. The battle is never over. We need all the weapons we can get. Of course I also like to ogle hispanic twinks.

So not only are they ending it, but they only got 8 episodes for Season 3 unlike the 10 episodes Season 1 and 2 got.

I felt bad when I heard. They also said it would only be 8 episodes this season which stinks. I know this. They better make sure Benji and Victor get back together. Rahim can find his own man. Little fucker. Now, Michael loves to be on Instagram and Tik Tok. So does the unforgivably attractive Mason. But I only have eyes for George. Man is way too beautiful. If anyone hears any rumors about why they shortened it I'd love to know. Some fans speculated that they gave everyone raises and blew up the budget for the final season. So fewer episodes.

Well the show was LAME so not surprised. It never reached the emotional punch of the movie, despite having18 more hours of runtime to work with. It all just felt sort of bland and far too conservative. I was sick of Victor acting naive one minute then a mean little bottom bitch the next. Couldn't communicate and left people out to dry.
I love the idea of the show but feel that coming out stories already feel like a dated concept.

This was originally a Disney+ show that was just pushed off for Hulu to handle. It's quite possible the Hulu team never really wanted it, without big numbers why bother continuing.

See, I think this is what happens when you get straight guys playing Gay. To do it in a movie or a very limited series, they all claim they can do it just fine, no worries. Now they had like a couple scenes in Season 2 where Victor and his boyfriend were fucking. Or trying to. They were cuddling at the bonfire, and making out in the storeroom at work, and the Janitor's closet at school, and kissing constantly. But kissing gets boring and there's a point where you have to do more. And Obviously in Season 3 they have to take the intimacy to another level. And maybe he breaks up with the hot boyfriend and decides to be a little whoor. So he has to get naked or semi naked and act convincingly like he is fucking around another guy. And if you're straight, all that stuff works on your mind. It can rock your world. If they had cast Gay guys they could have had ten seasons of convincing sex. Well, maybe not ten, but I'm just sayin"

I’m rooting for Rahim. Benji is damaged goods. I was done with him when he disrespected Victor’s mom. Granted, she was being extra when Victor came out but we’ve seen FAR worse homophobic parents than that. She didn’t deserve Benji disrespecting her in her own house. Fuck Benji, and not in a good way. Rahim is fucking adorable, inside and out.

Benji isn’t gorgeous. Actually, his face isn’t even that cute.
Season 1 did very well, which is why they gave it a second season, despite it being a dump off from Disney+. Season 2 did not perform nearly as well so they decided to give it a final season.
Remember, they even took a while to announce they would give it a season 3. They were debating if they should just cancel it or not but decided to give it one last go.

A lot of exclusive streaming platform shows get just three seasons to tell their story (easy binge-watching experience). Only the super successful ones, like Stranger Things, get more. You rarely read about shows being cancelled prematurely (who would bother with a show that, say, ends with a cliffhanger?).

Fuck you R29 for defending an abusive homophobic POS instead of a teenager, a kid, basically, who has had a real struggle with coming out. His words in Season 1 if you were really listening, "I didn't want to be Gay. I drank a lot." Then the accident that lands him in a hospital because he literally drove his car into a brick wall? He was into harming himself. Maybe even a suicide attempt. And because he went though all that, he was protective and supportive of Victor, even though he, himself is very fragile.. Think about how it would be if you had a boyfriend who you were crazy about, and he was really close to his mother, who wouldn't even allow you in her house. Adrian not knowing was her leverage. Because every single person who came into that house had cooperate in her lying to Adrian. She couldn't even look at Benji, without triggering her gag reflex. She threw out an entire dinner rather than share a meal with him.
Isabel, Victor's mother was my least favorite character. She was a homophobic, manipulative abusive bitch. Yet we are supposed to be patient with her, tolerate her, excuse he and place all the burden on a kid? No Way. You are confusing standing up for yourself with being disrespectful. Benji never disrespected her. Please also remember. It was Victor who called him and asked him to come over. It was Victor who said my mother isn't home. It was Victor who said come into my bedroom. Victor knew his bother was home. So spare me the bullshit of Benji being disrespectful and Benji being toxic. I'm tired of that narrative because it justifies that horrible witch's behavior. Victor was a thoughtless cunt. Isabel knew she was wrong. She admitted it to he husband and even went to the cafe to apologize to Benji.
Her thing was power. She felt like Benji was influencing Victor and she was insecure about her son having someone else besides her as an influence. That's why she got along with Rahim. She recognized Rahim. He was femme. Some might even say, stereotypically Gay. This is what people like her think of when you say Gay. Rahim was not fucking her son. So he was welcome in he house and she sang show tunes with him. How cliche'.

I think the mother was less threatened by Rahim, because he was less threatening in a sexual way. Rahim was campy and entertaining. Benji was more what she expected: Catching Victor and Benji in the act of making out, bringing all the sordid homo sex business into her pure, Christian mind. You know, the one that told her to cheat on her husband with his boss, and they had to move because of it.

R42 Stranger things? Season 3 was like 3-4 years ago and they’re getting a 4th season. No one knows if it will get more. These streaming shows are canceled over any little thing.
GLOW was successful and they canceled it anyway, after renewing it.
Love Victor, like Love Simon, was a show/movie for teens. I find it strange when 50+ year old men are invested in shows for kids.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 11, 2022 1:58 PM

I think it 's about money. When a new show drops, something original, it's cheap. If it hits, and they renew it for a second and a third season and a fourth, two things happen, one is that the costs go up and it becomes more expensive, and corollary to that, the actors want more money to remain in the series. Some of them only have the series. But others, like a Mason Gooding, may have a lot of other offers and since the show really didn't use Mason enough, and his character was going nowhere, he is grateful it's cancelled.

Those of us who have been exposed and victimized by abusive homophobic bitches reacted in a visceral way the character of Isabel. was dawn. So the Nerve was homophobia. I'm a fan of the show. I have been on other sites discussing the characters and situations. My personal experience was not easy and if I had a program like this 15- 20 years ago it would have helped. But many of us were shocked at the blowback towards Benji's character saying he was disrespectful and toxic, actually giving Isabel a pass. So when I see that bullshit here I tell it, baby. No apologies. To produce and write and present a show about coming out, centered on a high school kid, on teenagers, and do it in a way that is sympathetic with that kind of abuse, is disgusting. At least at the end they have her admitting she was wrong and then going to the cafe to apologize. But watching her was painful to me.

This show was still pretty tame and cheesy by the standards of most Hulu original programming. I think the writers didn't want to go too far given the Disney family friendly roots of the property. Had they pushed it edgier Hulu would probably be more interested.

Hulu is majority-owned by Disney. It was just moved from one platform to another (under the same company) because they wanted to depict things beyond Disney+'s family friendly image (the irony being that there is stuff on Disney+ that is not all family friendly.)

They finally announced officially that Nico Greetham is going to be in Season 3. He will play a guy named Nick ( how imaginative) who is Victor's friend. They meet at church. Now either our Victor is going to get with this "friend" or he is going to fix someone else up. IMO he has to fix Rahim up. The height tells me Rahim and Nico would work. I can't see him fixing Nico up with Benji. I've read somewhere the title of this episode is called "the Set Up "

I have to say that in general, this show's reach exceeds it's grasp. They took a bunch of really talented actors, the casting is damned near perfect, they created these characters, the producers convinced them they were doing something meaningful and important and even possibly groundbreaking, and then the writing just didn't measure up. The show could have been so much better. They let down their cast and their fans. I don't know if the writers just lack imagination, or the producers, or if they were too timid to really tell the story they promote, or if HULU pressured them to sanitize things or not go "too far" or what. But this show could have been so much better. They should have pitched this to Netflix. Disney sucks.

R133 Hulu encouraged them to make the show more adult. The first question they asked the creators after they took over the show from Disney is when they were going to have sex.
However this is based on a family friendly movie and the writers envisioned this for the family friendly Disney. I don't think they had any desire of changing course and making it super "edgy" in the vein of a Euphoria or the Gossip Girl reboot.

I only watched one or two episodes of the first season and felt it was "meh" but I'm clearly not the show's target audience. It's a pity it's being cancelled already because I think it's important to have shows out there for gay youth.
I know some people are saying that season two's numbers were bad, but given we have no access to streaming ratings we have no idea that's actually the case. Clearly the numbers were good enough to justify a third season. Obviously it's a business decisions (it's rare for streaming shows to go beyond three seasons these days anyways). But I do think Love Victor was a little bit of a "troubled production." It was originally supposed to be on Disney+ but shuffled too Hulu because Disney allegedly felt it was too adult, and then Hulu wanted to "steam it up" in the second season (but that got backlash from the usual group of homophobes and pearl clutchers).

I quite like the show. I think the main problem is the hype around the move from Disney+ to Hulu making it look edgier than it is. Even the second season, which was produced for Hulu, was - while nice - not as edgy or explicit as advertised. Sure, the boys made out and get caught in the act by Victor's mom, but that was one scene from the whole season. The show even has the very special episode about characters considering losing their virginity and how precious it is and that it's best to wait for the right guy and the right moment.
Again, it's a nice show, but it's for teens, not for adults.

Season 2 was better than season 1 mostly just because of the fact that season 1 was written for Disney+. Season 2 was written knowing it was going to be on Hulu so they were able to mature things up, at least a little bit.

It's a cute show. I think it fulfills the demographic/narrative that this show clearly set out in its tone from episode 1. It was never meant to be Euphoria or Elite. I think season 2 was even a major improvement from season 1. Though I always felt the show should have been 40/41 minutes an episode (equivalent to an hour show with ads), and that it got a few more episodes per season to flesh things out.

Victor should date an older guy.
That would add some depth to his character.
It's not like the story would be ground breaking, because Randy Harrison's "Justin" character dated Brian (10 years older) on Queer As Folk, over 20 years ago. And Justin was in high school.

Is there ever going to be an obviously gay, effeminate guy as the hero of one of these series? A guy who makes costumes for the drama club, or something? Instead of a basketball player-jock? There's no longer a gay stigma on TV but there seems to be a stigma about being "gay-acting". Does it send a great message to gay kids that they're supposed to identify with straight or straight-acting actors playing gay kids? If there's a femmy gay kid, he's a supporting character, usually.

(continued) ...Tommy Dorfman (Ryan Shaver). But he wasn't a very nice character.
I just wonder, after the producers have done everything to make the gay male characters on TV palatable to the straight teen girls who are the main audience for these shows - what about the gay-acting kids? Don't they get a show? Not a campy show, like Glee, or something, but a real situation that treats the main character as average and normal, facing life's everyday problems. Ther's a tendency to camp up these kids, make them the nerd best friend, or whatever. What about an attractive kid who just isn't 100% straight acting? I don't care if he's played by a gay or straight kid, just so he's represented.

Well it seems to me that an "obviously" Gay character, are you saying one who is effeminate? Because last season Love Victor introduced Rahim, who was stereotypically Gay. He was femme, and he was into fashion, and painted his nails, and he was on Grindr. oh, and they made him a Muslim kid with traditionally Muslim parents. He had to wear something over his clothes to get out of his house. He wore a lavender suede jacket to school,. he started out as Pilar's Gay friend from school, and then he is a constant presence in Victor's house seeking "advice" on how to come out to his parents. He sings show tunes with Victor's homophobic mother and compliments her on her home decor style. He develops a crush on Victor and when he isn't advising Pilar on how to go after Felix, who is dating Lake, he is trying to pry Victor away from Benji. He is a drama queen. By the end of Season 2 he declares his love for Victor and leaves us with a cliffhanger. At first I found him likeable but he was too underhanded and I was put off by that. Also didn't like the actor Anthony Keyvan when he was doing interviews, etc.

R171 Yeah, I didn't mean like Rahim - I meant a romantic lead. Not necessarily into show tunes and decorating, just a kid who has some gay mannerisms as a lead, not someone who has to "tell" people he's gay or they might not suspect. I just think a lot of mainstream shows are about "straightening" gay lead characters, or characters that are supposed to be seen as sexy or attractive. It's dishonest, in a way. I'm someone who people usally assumed was straight, maybe that's why ironically I notice this trend.

I'm thinking that Rahim's storyline is going to get expanded. Like I think either he lied about how accepting his parents were, or he has accepting parents, but the Mosque they belong to is NOT accepting. He said they were devout Muslims. Some complication will arise with him in his personal life. I also think just based on what we know about Victor, he is going back to Benji. First of all, Victor hates feeling like a "loser." Benji is the hottest guy in school...according to Lake. Benji is well liked,...just like Mia was popular. And there was that thing with Victor standing on a chair announcing how really happy he was with Benji. Second, if Benji rejects him because he acted like an asshole, then he is going to mope around until he can figure out a way to at least make peace with Benji. He can't stand anyone not liking him. I think Nico Greetham's character will play a role. He is described as "Victor's friend from church."

I don't have any real problem with TV shows that so often focus on the problems of minorities, immigrants, etc. - and social problems, social justice - but it's beginning to have a sameness. A show could be set in a white rural area in 1974 and they still would have to find a way to cast black, Asian, Latinx people - somehow. It seems like pandering at those times, and it also presents an ahistorical picture.

R184, since for years we have seen TV series set in Bumfuck or WTF ever, and they have been consistently "whitewashed" as a matter of policy by the networks, the studios who produced them and even the FCC, I don't mind at all seeing better representation. Here's an example: Did you know that Patton's army was comprised of Black soldiers? Not the entire army, but several divisions and they weren't gravediggers? The 761 tank battalion, known as the Black Panthers, in 1944 and the 1945 the 784th. They eventually fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Of course if you watched "Patton" starring George C. Scott, the only hint you would have gotten is the opening speech by his character. They were erased. In fact POC have been so thoroughly and consistently erased, that what you are now seeing is not fabrication but correction. Black people have always existed in America. Since the 1600's. Actually 1619. And of course Native Americans lived here. And the Asian Americans and Latinos were bought here as cheap labor . So get used to the corrections. Many of them are more historically accurate than you realize.

It really shows the age of posters here when they're getting so upset with Victor's mom. She acted like most of my Latino relatives when they deal with gay issues. It's hardly traumatic, maybe you should find some therapy, the world today is not that of your 1950s mother. That was actually the only realistic thing going on with this show. She apologized and moved on and is learning in silence.

R198. Some of us had experiences leading up to and after coming out, that were traumatizing, and we did get therapy in many cases, and seeing some of that acted out in this series was definitely triggering. WTF are you to say "move on" and tell us about our "1950's mother." It was the late 1970's for me, and my mother was not Latino. She was of Greek descent. But Whatever. It was not only our mothers. It was the mothers of the guys we dated, or maybe it was another relative.
I had a friend who's mother's sister was a monster. Abusive, cruel, just mean. And she singled him out from the time he was 5 years old.. It affected him well into his 40's. They were Irish. And not all Latinos are like Isabel. In fact in this day in 2022, most aren't. You can attempt to delegitimize our reaction, minimize it, dismiss it, mock it. You can attempt to marginalize and trivialize, but our reactions belong to us. They are part of our life experiences. Whether you chose to recognize them or not doesn't make them any less real to us. You seem very callous.

I would be surprised if Michael has much of a career post-Victor. Cute, pleasant, not a great actor. He has about two and a half facial expressions. He'll probably always work and make good money, because it seems that's how it is once you get your foot in the door, and star in a series. But like so many of these TV twinks, not an exciting actor and probably no great future.

R210, I'm not so sure. First of all, Michael is smart, and he is really ambitious. He was also recently signed by CAA. The directors of the various episodes and the showrunners really like him. A lot. He projects as an amiable, big hearted, intelligent guy, very cooperative, easy to get along with, and good with other cast members. He networks like a pro, and supports other actors on social media. He makes it a point to be friends with the directors, and the casting people, etc. So he is always going to do well. And the thing is, with so many platforms doing episodic TV and feature films, and the fact he is Latino? Shit. I predict that Michael and Mason Gooding will break out . Mason has a lot more talent and he is older so he is going to go the distance...and he and Michael are BFFs. They look out for one another.

Having most of the gay cast get HIV in the final season is bizarre. Is this set in the pre-PREP era or something? This choice is not doing what they think it is in terms of honoring people living with the disease or raising awareness of risk. The murder plot is also out of the blue and tonally off for this show.

R224 I think they should. Make like Undressed or Greek (which both had gays) where it's a campy comedy-drama. High school settings are difficult because gay teens even if they are open don't usually date until their college years and up. You'll probably see more teen girls in lesbian relationships since so many claim bisexual. But gay boys have a narrow dating pool especially if they live in suburbia. That's unfortunately why so many are on hookup apps and preyed on by creepy chicken hawks.

OK. I have checked. Love, Victor was a hit both Season 1 & Season 2. So shortening it and ending it after 3 seasons seems like it was a producers' decision not Hulu's. I have to say the producers seemed more engaged and enthused for how I Met Your Father than they were for Victor, and maybe they got tired of the Gay Teens in High School genre. Maybe the actors wanted too much money? But the show wasn't cancelled for lack of viewers. So if anyone has more enlightened speculation o knows how things work I'd appreciate your insight.

Possibly, but they keep introducing new characters and there have been other high school dramas that made it though 5-6 years, so I was thinking this one was going to be around for 4 years or 5. Ending it after 3 was surprising but what surprised me most is that they cut it to 8 episodes instead of ten. I wonder if the writers had anything to do with it? Do writers even have any clout in a TV series? They seem to be a dime a dozen, easily replaced.

[quote]I just think a lot of mainstream shows are about "straightening" gay lead characters, or characters that are supposed to be seen as sexy or attractive. It's dishonest, in a way. I'm someone who people usally assumed was straight, maybe that's why ironically I notice this trend.
I am not going to read the entire thread just to see if someone already responded. BUT wasn't the main character in Love Simon EXACTLY what you are describing. Simon didn't play any sports. He wasn't a flaming queen either. Or are you specifically talking about a show with a character like this? I think you are jumping the gun. We JUST got over "do all gays have to be like Jack from Will and Grace? We can act straight, be the jock sometimes..." dilemma just maybe five years ago. We are just being shown in the media as possible looking exactly like hetero people just to let the world know we are everywhere. I don't think we are ready to give that up just yet.

More shows need to end while fans want more, not after grinding a well-liked shows into the dirt.
Shows like Love, Victor really only have about three seasons of worthwhile stories in them. Same with other teen shows like 13 Reasons.
The economics of streaming make it more possible for shows to have a limited run of a few seasons than network broadcast shows. As a matter of fact, the economics of shows makes shorter runs of 3-4 seasons the sweet spot.
Personally, I like the idea of limited run series with a set end point so that stories are better constructed and given a real payoff climax.

With Love Victor, even in this shorter final season they have new storylines that could have been developed and the characters given more time. So like, there's a band new lesbian couple formed by the ex girlfriends of two of the male characters. The main character's younger sister starts a new relationship with the BFF of the Main. One character is on a quest to find their mother. Her father has a new wife and new baby. The main character is trying to win back his first love even as his mother tries to hook him up with someone totally new. I mean this is a fucking soap opera. but the point is introducing new storylines in this final shorter season seems stupid and rushed. So the fact that this is the final season is very puzzling to me.

The flavor of the month appears to be Heartstopper which just got renewed for two more season, and honestly it is so childish, while I was glad to see a show about coming out aimed at junior high and high schoolers, basically the demo would be 13 -16, I don't see what the excitement was. There is only one actor that's appealing to older kids, and he's the villain. The leads are like, baby gaylings.
I like Love, Victor because the guys are genuinely attractive and in real life they're over 21 and I can crush on them. Mason, George, Anthony Keyvan and Michael are all hot. So is Julia Louis Dreyfus's kid, Charlie Hall.

Now that Indie Wire is reporting Victor contacts an STD in Season 3, the Reddit loons are insisting that he doesn't get it from hooking up with Nico Greetham, but maybe thru random hook ups. Why? Because they insist Victor won't have sex with Nico. He's too conscience stricken and missing Benji, the guy who took his virginity. I can think of at least two scenes in Season 2 of LV when they were kissing and Geoge/Benji's hands went for the gold. Did not waste time. IMO they defintely acted like normal horny teenagers. Especially in the 16-17 yr old range. And they had chemistry. Even when they weren't being sexual they were sexual.

As a teenager, I was pretty good looking and had a lot of attention, but I was still awkward, inhibited, shy, and nervous about intimacy. Sometimes kissing was just kissing. Not every kid at 16 is ready to jump into bed. I think TV is very unrealistic in that regard and sets kids up for letdowns with all the unreal expectations.

I don't know many 16-18 year olds they aren't willing to get below the belt with the person they are dating r297. When I was in high school it was always the guy that was willing but had to wait til the girl gave it the okay.

Who's talking about jumping in bed. I'm talking about your dick getting hard. Jacking off together or jacking each other off and escalating to blow jobs would be the natural progression. I remember in Episode 4 of Season 2, Victor was really anxious about fucking. He really froze up at the prospect of going all the way, by the end of the episode they did the "I love you" thing and Victor topped Benji.

Michael is wearing earrings and longer hair. I also saw a video of him with George doing an interview on You Tube, and George seems stoned. I love him. The interviewer asks Michael some random, " What would you have liked to see happen at the end?," And Michael said something like "Well you don't need someone else to complete you. They can be part of your journey..." blah blah blah, and George gave him this slow smile, and said, "Aww, you're breaking my heart. They'll be together forever! ." So the interviewer asked George, and he said, "Well maybe another dance number?" I think they're friends in real life, at least they have both said so, and they seem to know just how to mess with one another, but I gotta say, they make a great couple. The casting people did a great job, no? What ever. Victor get an STD I think from going out with Nico Greetham. In fact, Victor gets his own Grindr account.

Nico was the slut, but Victor sure went for it! I really enjoyed the entire season. It went fast too. Eight short episodes. I binged it and it almost felt like a feature length movie with a lot of commercials. I thought it was pretty honest, too for a TV series. I've known guys like Nick, just not as hot. They sort of redeemed ahim, too. I like him.

That was bullshit. The season was so short, it’s an insult to fans. It really needed more episodes.
I wanted to see more of Rahim and Connor. Rahim was the most interesting character. Also Liam and Nick. We really didn’t get to see enough of Liam.

Rahim really is a lot more interesting than Victor and not just cause he is more flamboyant. I liked the backstory scenes for Benji but those should've probably happened in season 2.

Loved it! It was a pretty perfect conclusion for the series. Sure, it had a saccharine Hollywood ending but the whole series has always been very Hollywood and, heck, why not a cheesy happy ending for once?
I thought that all the gay characters were fun this season. Rahim became much more than an obstacle for Victor and Benji (like in Season 2), and the scene with him dressing down the homophobes was fun. I also liked him together with Connor. Nick actually turned out to be quite sweet in the end.

My gay niece recommended it. Confess that I eye rolled the first couple of episodes but it grew on me. Michael Cimino reminds me for my first boy crush in school. He's adorable. It's just a Dawson's Creek redux. Think in these perilous times for LGBT youth it may help some gayling in Bumfuck red state to feel less suicidal. There aren't any young gay actors? Is that why two straight actors had to play the leads?
by Anonymous | reply 349 | June 16, 2022 12:28 AM

I'm fine with adult gay roles being played primarily by gay actors, but there should be some leeway when it comes to younger roles. Not everyone is out at that age and you can't really ask that at an audition. You can, however, put out an informal casting call for out gay actors, like RTD did for It's a Sin. But that's a new practice that's not widespread yet.
In any case, this is an ongoing discussion in the Tom Hanks thread.

It was a juicy season and as good as the previous two. A wholesome show that I might rewatch in the future. It really is a time capsule in a way since it in no way deals with gender issues, so it would definitely have looked different if it started airing today.
Rahim got the best storylines and like someone else mentioned, I'm glad he wasn't just there as a foil to the main guys, but had his own life this season. Connor is such a cutie, we needed two more episodes showing us their great chemistry together!
So glad they didn't make Felix' mom relapse, that would have been such a trope and that boy's been through enough already.

This show did the thing I can't stand the most.
When Victor's parents set him up with the son of the new friends from church, the show acknowledged (thankfully) that just because they're both gay doesn't mean that they're a good match. You'd never assume that just because two people are straight that you should set them up. That was a good setup and the blond guy, Nick, was hot, so all good.
However, when Nick decides he wants to date, he then hooks up with that obnoxious dork. Here's where I have a problem. There is NO way a dork like that would snag someone as hot as Nick. Nick had many hot guys he was hooking up with, so it's not like he was desperate to find someone. I could see if he was inexperienced and the whole gay thing was new. But, the boy has already been around the block, several times. If he wanted to date someone and get serious, he'd find someone a LOT hotter and more importantly way less obnoxious.

R368, you may not agree personally, but Victor was firmly established as hot jock in season 1 and 2. All the gay boys kinda fall for him, so it's not surprising that Nick would do so as well.
Also, Nick wasn't that hot. The actor looked too old already (and will look even older soon). Besides, Victor probably already had the approval of Nick's parents (since they were in on the blind date as well), and Nick and Victor share similar interests (e.g., church), so it makes sense.

Look. I knew a few Nicks. One in paticular liked the guys he could "break in." And honestly, Victor blew him off. It pobably didn't happen often. So he decided to come with the flowers and the dinner date. It was probably an ego thing. Plus he found Victor attactive, enthusiastic, willing. Shit, if a supermarket bouquet and a dinner date gets him in the back seat, great. I think Nick wanted to try to be less of a whore. But the thing about guys like Nick, is they can't be with just one guy. They get restless. He would eventuallly cheat. So he is fine as long as you know that, and it also gives you permission not to be monogamous. Nick was sort of honest. At lleast he told Victor he was seeing othe guys and peferred casual hook ups. Look, at 17 you got guys like Nick, guys like Rahim, and guys like Victor. Whatever.

No, I'm fine with his hooking up with Victor. Victor is cute.
It's the guy that he and Felix had to do the project with. After the award speech, Nick and Victor broke up. As Nick was walking away, there was a setup between Nick and the dork. Later, they were clearly supposed to be into each other and chatting.
Also, Nick is clearly hot.

Nico Greetham has a very hot body of course, but if we are judging on the natural beauty in his face he is an average guy. But those abs make them one of the hot guys at any gay party.
He does look older though, that his character is supposed to be 17 was laughable.

THee was a geat scene in LV, Season 3, where Victor and Nick, and Rahim and his new boyfriend went out to dinner. Rahim had this bright blue, flashy jacket on, and while they were in the restauant he noticed two gross looking straight guys gossiping about them and laughing. Clealy not Gay friendly. After dinner, Rahim and Victor walked out first, and the two nasties were hanging aound making comments. So Rahim confronted them and insulted them beautifully and told them off. Victor was like a deer in headlights. Clueless. Then Nick and Rahim's boyfriend joined them, asking what's going on here, is there a problem, and the four Gays sort of stood there ready to get into it. So the two Nasties, suddenly out numbered, left claiming it "wasn't worth it" to fight the Gays. After the incident, Rahim gave Victor a lesson. He said Victor had the option of being Gay when he chose to, but Rahim got picked on and fought that shit all the time. For him it wasn't a choice. He was pointing out that staight acting Gays were not noticed or bothered nealry as much as Gays like him. He said being "out and proud" wasn't really a choice fo him. It was a really good moment.

Looks like Nico is in NYC with Victor. Nico is friends with Kai Gerber, Cindy Crawford's daughter and she is going to be in some Apple TV series with Laura Dern. Rumor is that Michael also got a part in it. He is an ace when it comes to networking. And he has an agent, CAA so they'll keep him busy. But Michael is always trading up with friends. He is very ambitious. He is generous and kind and supportive with a wide circle of people. Always willing to do a favor. But there are certain people like Mason Gooding jr. who he is really close to and he is protective of those relationships. It looks like he and Nico have become friends. Joshua robert Colley is close to Michael too and he is a good friend of Nico's. All you have to do is follow them on Instagram and over time you can connect the dots. I think Nico is sexually fluid and leaning Gay. At the very least.

Michael and George have great chemistry, but I fear George won't do as well careerwise as Michael will. Michael has hustle. He works at it. Networks, etc. He has CAA out here and he seems like he will push them. George seems like a low key depressive pothead who doesn't have much presence or social media. If you find him it's because he is on someone else's feed. I think the two break outs will be Mason Gooding and Michael Cimino. Not saying eveyone else will disappear. They won't. But those two are the biggest new thing to happen as a result of this. Mason is also in Scream.

Mason did a lot with a very small role in the scheme of things. His character has personality and depth. I loved Andrew the jock. And yes, Mason is hot. In season 3 his job was to support Mia, his girlfriend, who was going though a lot of shit. He had some scenes where he really stepped up. Mia's boyfriend Andrew drives her to see the mother who deserted her five years ago when she was 11 - 12 ys old. Her mothe is a successful artist. She shows at galleries all over the world. So Mia and her mother meet up at a house party and Mama gives her hugs and gushes all over her and through all the bullshit, Andrew is sitting on the sofa next to Mia,, watching this performance and seething. He interjects some comments enough to let Mama know he sees through her. She is very selfish. And very superficial. It was a good scene and Mason and Rachel Hilson who played Mia did a great job. Kind of sad too.

I like the actress who played Mia, Rachel Hilson. I haven't seen her in any interviews, so have no opinion on whether she's insufferable.
But, I can see her as being the cost effective option for Amandla Stenberg (Rue from Hunger Games - who is insufferable) or Yara Shahidi (the daughter from Blackish who got her own spinoff).

Benji was an asshole this season, just like last season. Victor was too good for that asshole. He shouldn't even be in a relationship. Just finished the final season, and it was quite good and loved it overall, loved the addition of "let's keep it casual" Nick and not making him a villain by giving Victor an STI.
All storylines neatly tied together in a feel-good kind of way.
As a self-proclaimed eldergay, I am happy and amazed how far gay themed entertainment has come. When I was a teen, the best I could hope for was a token gay BFF as sidekick who maybe gets a subplot per season, or someone like Kerr Smith on Dawson's Creek. Nowadays, I'm sort of struggling to keep up with all the wonderful worldwide entertainment with gay characters in the main and regular cast.

I think Cimino is cute in some still pictures and when he's just staring into space on film, but when he starts to talk/act he loses me. He's really not very masculine or manly, is he? It's like he's 14.

Cimino reminds me of a little attention seeking puppy. Endearing and annoying. And yes. He acts much younger than his age. He tries too had. Now he is a intelligent, aticulate young man, but he seems to be almost playing a role when he goes on TikTok or Instagram. He's been recording original music, some of it with Ray Goren and Finn Matthews.Finn is very talented. I'd be curious to see what others might think of it. I found it uneven. Some of the stuff was ridiculous and a couple were pretty good. You can tell Bruno Mars and Justin Beiber are some of his favorites.

That Victor friend-zones Rahim in favor of guys like Benji and Nick also I thought was very honest writing speaking to how society works r386. You see Victor chasing after masculine white guys but deciding that the more effeminate Rahim should just be a friend.

In season 2, I was firmly siding with Benji because I felt that Rahim was intentionally trying to steal Victor. In season 3, Rahim is presented much more sympathetically, whereas Benji is shown to be a total mess. To be honest, having worked with addicts, Victor should have chosen anyone but Benji. That boy is so fucked-up, he will crash so hard at some point and will draw Victor into the whole mess as well. Presenting a relationship with teenage alcoholic as the 'end game' is also quite fucked-up, if you think about it.

Benji is just a boring character, and I don't know how much of that is the writing and how much of that is George Sears performance r427. I do feel bad for George that his main character trait is this is an highschooler who is a recovering alcoholic.

I mean this show is obsessed with framing high school relationships as "end-game". Victors parents are highschool sweethearts and Victor/Benji, Mia/Andrew and even Lake/Lucy have to presented as true love that God forbid we could ever end up breaking up once highschool is over. Our entire lives need to revolve around our relationship. I mean I laughed a Lake presenting her mom's second house to a girl she has been dating a couple months? This shows messaging on highschool relationships is pretty crazy.

No, R449, Victor is a Rescuer. I have a feeling he will optimistically try to support Benij as Benji "works" on himself. The first few times Benji slips up, he will be 100 % there. But as time passes, it will exhaust him. I hate to say this, but the Benji character, as drawn by these writers, and presented by these showrunners, is a candidate for Suicide. He aleady tried once. That car accident.
Victor is going to think he can "fix" Benji. He'll try to figure out what he can do to make sure Benji doesn't slip up. In a way he might become like a parental figure to Benji. I'm thinking they will be on and off all through college and finally about 5-6 years from now, either Victor will be exhausted, and break up, or Benji will end things, have another accident. He will leave a beautiful note, though. George Sear did a damned good job with his speech at the AA meeting. It made me verklempt.
In general, these writers really did saddle the cast with some heavy shit. Felix was living in disgusting conditions with a mentally ill woman who couldn't even keep a job. He has to borrow money from Victor's sister from her job at the Pretzel joint at the Mall to keep from being evicted. Mia and Andew were pactically raising themselves, clinging to one another. Felix's girlfriend ends up trying to help him by telling her mother, and Child Welfare steps in, and Mama gets committed. So they break up.
The "ideal" intact family, Isabel and Armando are separated. She is a cheater who has an affair with his boss. He explodes, beats the guy up, and relocates his family to Atlanta and a new job. Then they get back together, and he has another explosion about Gay slurs against his son, and he "quits" the job, all in a year's time. So IMO this was a fucking soap opera, even had those short cliffhanger episodes like a soap. I wonder if they could have done better by making it an adult show. It was 13 Reasons Why Lite. Except no one died.

I know no one will probably be able to definitively answer this, but I'm still asking: Why are there suddenly so many actors on teen oriented shows who are English. playing American? Or Australian, playing American? There are several on Stranger Things, for ex. There was the lead girl on the first two seasons of 13 Reasons Why. A few years ago thgere was Daniel Sharman on Teen Wolf. And there's George Sear on this show. There must be a lot of young American actors looking for work, who don't have to put on fake accents. I'm not criticizing, it just seems like a weird trend.

R453, they're probably cheaper. But maybe they're also better educated with regard to acting (coming from a country with a more traditional theater culture, dialects being important)? Or maybe they sound more convincing in castings (since British English tends to sound more impressive to American ears)? Maybe they're more likely to suck cock for a role?

George looked more like a high schooler than Nico did at least. Nico Greetham definitely looks like the 27 year old man he is.

Talent agencies negotiate salaries and get a cut from said salary. Foreign actors don't just show up on auditions and offer that they'd work for less money.
Foreign actors need representation just like any local actor to be allowed to audition.

I Don't see George Sear having a lot of success as an actor. He's a decent actor, but he definitely is no better than a C+. Second , he is short. Third he will be 25 this year and he looks like a 18 yr old. In the same way that GAY Nico Greetham looks his age, 27, George looks young. Now IMO he has a beautiful face. But it is decidedly "pretty." Almost too pretty, and thus limiting. It must take a lot of work for a director to get a performance out of him. Finally he doesn't seem to know how to hustle and network. He has almost no presence on social media besides "liking" other people's stuff. I think, after watching his interviews, he is very self conscious and maybe painfully shy. Not as relaxed or comfortable as Michael. So he is limited in his options. He has said he writes and wants to direct. So maybe that's where he ends up.

I don't get it. The setting is Atlanta. Now admittedly Atlanta gets chilly in winter sometimes into 3o's. But When Victor sees Benji for the first time by the water fountain, he is in a t-shirt and jeans. Season 1. But in Season 2 & 3, with the exception of his work t-shirt, Benji is usually wearing some kind of jacket. I liked the way he looked when he went to Mia's father's wedding and caught Victor. I loved that same suit at the Sping Fling. I liked the outfit he wore in Season 3 episode 5 I think. When they went to drag bingo. The continuity ws shit when it came to his hair too. From one scene to the next his hair looked different, even when it was the same scene and they cut away and came back.. The scene where he is walking into the classroom to meet his tutor is a case in point.

The problem with this show and other YA novel based shows is that the original plot and story premise are thin by design since the target audience is young.
Once the initial story conflict is addressed, there is very little material to continue the story, so it become poorly imagined melodrama.

r506, the general fear of YA themed content is always to not overwhelm the target audience (perceiving younger viewers as stupid, ignorant, shallow, not ready for certain topics, etc.). Of course, that makes other age groups roll their eyes at such entertainment. The exception is when the creators manage to sneak in jokes and references that go over the younger viewers' heads, but the older viewers get them.

What was the target audience of 13 Reasons Why, though? It was about high school teens, and that's primarily who watched it (and younger), yet it had everything in it - sex scenes, murder, suicide, rape, etc.

13 Reasons was a popular YA novel and only the first season of the show loosely followed the book.
The sex scenes were amped up for the show. The novel focused much more on her recordings to unravel why she killed herself and how all the stories that led to that were intertwined.
The majority of the stuff about the other characters was invented for the show as they attempted to give a backstory to why they behaved the way they did - and ultimately undercuts Hannah's suicide by mitigating their shitty behavior. The novel was Hannah and Clay's story.

R514 Thanks. But I don't think that was what I was saying, unless I wasn't very clear. The poster was talking about the limiations of a YA themed TV show like Love, Victor. And I was pointing out 13 RW pushed the envelope a lot more than Love, Victor, yet it was also a YA themed show. So I don't think Love, Victor was limited just by being a YA show. I think a choice was made to keep it somewhat more within certain bounds.

R515 Love, Victor was initially slated to premiere on the Disney+ channel, but they got cold feet that it would be to controversial so it was dumped onto Hulu, which is owned by Disney. There are not that many family friendly TV shows who let a teenager be a recovering alcoholic who is in AA. That was new, but not as edgy as in Euphoria. I was pleasantly surprised that Victor and Andrew were allowed to get high, and it didn't turn into a "don't do drugs, kids!" PSA.
I think HBO Max's Euphoria really is a game changer when it comes to edgy teen entertainment and how other shows try to keep up pushing the envelope in their own way.

R517 If you want to watch sex there's plenty of porn available. It says something about you that you criticize what you see as a lack of sexual content.

R519 you're full of shit. I am complaining about the lack of authenticity and the deliberate sanitizing. Because it implies that Gay sex and portrayals of affection and tendeness are kept to a minimum because they feel audiences aren't ready to see too much of Gays doing that. I do not need to see people fucking. (Porn is boring.) I would like authenticity. Not fucking, but some acknowledgement that these are teenagers, 17 yr olds, in love and hot for one another.
In one scene Benji reaches out while driving and strokes Victor's cheek. I loved it. It was a tender gesture of affection. In another scene in episode one they both flop down on Benji's bed and Victor reaches out and strokes Benji's hair, trying to comfort him. There wasn't enough of that kind of thing. Touching is important. The scene of the two of them sitting on the school bench kissing, they were also holding hands. To me that was hot. I love seeing the physical manifestations of love. Now go stick a dildo up your bum you judgemental ass

It has strengths and weaknesses, but overall there was something about it that drew me in and I think it was the characters. They did a great job of casting this show. I enjoyed the dialogue too. Now plotwise it had flaws, but still. And I think Geoge is adorable. And lest you start fucking with me being a pedo, George is 24 going on 25.

George/Benji is an example of how first impressions really stick with you.
His very first scene at the drinking fountain and the way he runs his fingers through his hair is very sexy. THAT is the image I had of him for the rest of the show.

From the very first episode, the best element of this series for me is the friendship between Victor and Felix. When Victor came out to Felix in the first season, I think to this day that's the most touching scene in the whole series. The openness between him and Victor, including the scene when Victor discovered the rash on his cock, is so special.
Felix is actually my favorite character. When I was in my early teens, my family and I moved and I had to change schools. I was bullied. I wish I had a friend like Felix who knew the school, and showed up and watched out for me the way he did for Victor. I think Pilar's being a brat. Her parents took Felix in when he had nobody and kept him out of the foster care system. He was just being respectful.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | June 26, 2022 8:07 PM

But Pilar has a point. When push came to shove, Felix chose her parents over her. That's not a great foundation for a romantic relationship.

YEs but. I have a feeling for Felix the timing wasn't right. But I have a feeling he's gonna circle back and end up with Pilar. He loved that family, and having Papa and Mama throw him out in anger was traumatic for him. But it will pass.

Here's a question. Now when Nick jumped on him, and in Season 2 when he and Benji were making out in the backroom at work, the t-shirts came off first thing.. Now I don't know if the director thought to amplify the heat of the moment by having them tear at one another's t-shirts, but in my personal experience, as a promiscuous 16-17 yr. old, it was the ass and the zipper we went for not the t- shirt. Nick was buttoning Victor's shirt. It was kind of sexy to see him do that.) So I'm asking, did I miss out by not tearing my boyfriend's t-shirt off to give him a blow job? I mean we were usually in a place where there was some risk involved.

Michael Cimino posted a short video on YouTube saying that he will not work in Texas due to their treatment of LGBT persons unless absolutely necessary, and for a very limited time. 'They don't need pink money'. 'I won't be supporting places who don't support my people'.
Did he come out as bi or gay and I missed it? I last recall that Michael gave one of those standard-issue young-actor-in-a-gay-role 'never say never' generic sexuality disclaimers.

I'm happy they read DL. They made Bebe Wood bi like we suggested years ago, they also finally showed Victor enjoying basketball, like watching a game on his phone when he gets a booty call. Good call. They also showed his phone with a screen that is related to basketball. We still had to endure the fem pity party which wouldn't exist with out gay athletes, but overall this was a decent show.

Actors are just doing their job promoting their projects or themselves. I find it rather scary that some people think that they have a connection with an actor, because he's pandering to the audience. All an actor wants is people's financial support, and not in a "let's be friends!" kind of way.

R561, I agree with you, but at the same time there's nothing wrong with admiring an attractive guy. I don't feel any "connection" but I do get crushes on beautiful men. I'm not about to fly to LA or NYC or London, to "connect" with my crush. And who knows. Next month I'll develop a crush on someone else. I think most of the time, people develop crushes on a character not the actor. And I am a firm believer that you should never meet your crush. Lots of stories about these kids that chase celebrities and then get a rude awakening when the celebrity shits on them.

George seemed to hold back, even freeze in the first 2 seasons but he has been much more relaxed and animated while promoting Season 3. I notice in older interviews, he seems shy and nervous. I know he got a lot of hate when the whole Rahim thing was going on, and people were calling him a "white supremacist " and threatening his life! Crazy shit. Totally uncalled for. He seems like a sweet guy. So maybe that caused him to pull back.
But when it comes to his character, remember it is the director who is in charge. They are the ones who insist on restraint or decide what kind of personalities the characters have. All I can go on is that the cast seems close, and they seem to like one another. The poblem with thi business is that eal fiendships ae few. People may like one anothe and be fiends, but it seems tansient, not lasting. And most of them keep an eye on the ones who can help them.
Michael, who was signed by CAA, is very ambitious. He networks. He networks with other actors, with directors, crew, showrunners, casting directors, etc. He promotes other people's work, and seems open and friendly. He's articulate in interviews, too. We have no idea where Michael lives, or who he is dating. Yes he is in L.A. and he loves to pop over to NYC. But even though he seems accessible we don't know a lot about his personal details. And that's good. He has figured out how to maintain privacy while establishing a presence on social media. George barely bothers with social media. He used to. But unless he appears in someone else's feed, he has faded in the past year. He seems vulnerable and I hope he has success as an actor. I like him.

In fairness, I do think that the writers did George few favours in series 2 & 3; the extended and dreary AA/rehab story arc gave him very little opportunity to show his engaging, fun persona we saw in the first season. And the truncated 3rd series forced the writers to compress his storyline even further.
And I remain very impressed by his yank accent, I never heard so much as a hint of the Essex boy across 3 years.
