Much has changed in the wake of a pandemic, and many people are re-evaluating their relationship priorities. Could this be the year RKid LG & Noely finally kiss and make up? Their cold spell of no-contact has been going on since 2009...

R3 honestly given the way they both go on about each other and obsess even in estrangement, it wouldn’t surprise me if they’d explored one another sexually or harboured some sort of romantic feelings.
Plus the fact that their home city of Manchester is actually a cesspit of inbreeding anyway.

They have another older brother named Paul, who also shares their very distinctive look, and who is also estranged from both. Must be bloody weird being him, watching their behaviour from the outside and trying to make sense of it all while also living a normal non-famous non-wealthy life in obscurity.
One of Liam’s solo records is explicitly about his lack of contact with both Noel & Paul and how he wishes that they could reconnect, and in the companion music video depicts the three Gallagher brothers as youngsters (played by kid/teen actors) rambling together in a line over the bleak scraggy hills outside Manchester.
The video has a really poignant shot, in which Liam sits on one of three chairs in a row (set up outside on a windy hillside), and looks intently two chairs over at a sullen young man meant to represent a teenaged Noel, who in his turn stares back, until the camera spins and we see that adult Liam of Now has turned into a representation of his young child self who is peering with nervous innocence back at the bigger Noel.

Back in the 1990s they were doing all sorts of stuff to deliberately piss people off, they thought it made them cool and edgy. That's all the kiss was, I'm sure, or maybe a little bit of one brother trying to publicly embarrass the other.
Liam strangely enough has grown up quite a bit, I didn't think it was possible given how much of a wanker he was, but he seems to have had some therapy and maybe a few meds to turn him into a halfway decent person. Meanwhile Noel has turned into a huge Tory piece of shit and is completely intolerable.

In that image Noel is the one standing with his arms around his brother—-he’s the elder, shorter & stockier, and less conventionally-pretty of the two, usually with shorter hair and bigger brows. Liam is the younger taller one, with longer hair and a finer featured lovelier face.

If one examines the lyrics of B-sides & demos by Oasis, High Flying Birds, or either Gallagher solo, one can often find oblique Morrisey-esque references to homoromantic or homoerotic sentiments. Could be reflective of the era’s dying throes of New Wave/indiesexual fluidity, or perhaps something more personal...
The unfinished proto-Oasis demo from the early ‘90s titled ‘Take Me’ (not to be confused with the later album cut ‘Take Me Away’), with lyrics written & sung by a late-teenaged Liam, sounds suprisingly like the earnest plea of a young man who longs to be physically taken and pleasured by some force that is stronger or more dominant. Interestingly, though the band and especially Noel loved the song and wanted it on their first album, after the demo Liam vehemently refused to record a clean finished version and vetoed any further work on it, with a firm sense of upset and of shyness that he wasn’t used to showing at that point in the Oasis timeline. Was the song a bit too close to Liam’s heart, or close to an uncomfortable truth?

A couple of years ago, Liam told an interviewer at Pink News that he doesn’t mind if his sons turn out to be same-sex attracted. Nice hearing that from a man who used to sling homophobic insults about.
[quote] LG: Yeah, I speak to my kids on a daily basis, me. I’m not one of them uptight fathers – everything is open round our way. We can talk about anything. Girls, boys, whatever. I’m like, “there anything you want to tell me?” You know, I don’t give a fuck about all that—you are what you are, and that’s that. There’s nothing that’s out of bounds.

R52 Noel & Liam did indeed share a bedroom for many years, up until Noel moved out (in disgust, most likely) when he reached his late teens/early twenties. As a Brit, I can say that this housing arrangement is typical for working-class Northern family life, not often or necessarily indicative of anything morally dark.
Liam tells a really funny anecdote from the late 1980s, about his 15-year old wastrel self coming home in the middle of the night drunk and high, stumbling through the dark house to their room, and pissing on Noel’s new (probably stolen) Hi-Fi stereo because he was desperate and he couldn’t see straight to find the landing light-switch that would lead him to the bathroom.

From an interview with the Sunday Herald in June 2005, just before Oasis broke up. The brothers discuss the song on the sixth and what would become the penultimate Oasis album DON’T BELIEVE THE TRUTH, for which Liam wrote the lyrics, titled ‘Guess God Thinks I’m Abel’....
Noel: “Doesn’t Cain kill Abel in the end?”
Liam: “[grunting] Yeah.”
Noel “[bemused] Isn’t the first line of your song, “I could be your lover…”’
Liam: “Yeah.”
Noel: “[turning to speak to the interviewer] Now, if that’s not banned in this country, it’s certainly frowned upon. Brother-on-brother sex: it’s not right is it? So I’m kinda looking at Liam a bit differently lately. Strange kid…”

As much as the Gallaghers seemed to be into each other, there's an interesting blurb on Liam's Wiki page that said outside of performances, Noel and Liam never saw each other.
Not only that, but they were in separate bands in their teens/early 20's.
That doesn't sound like a close relationship at all:
[quote] During Oasis's American tour in 1994, Liam frequently changed the words of Noel's songs so that they were offensive to both Americans and Noel. In September 1994, Oasis played at Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles. The day of the show Oasis had been using methamphetamine that they believed was cocaine. The band made several mistakes and tensions arose on stage between Liam and Noel, eventually leading to Liam hitting Noel in the head with his tambourine. After the show, Noel shortly left the tour and went to San Francisco.
[quote] During the 1995 recording sessions for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, the brothers had a fight when Liam invited everyone from a local pub back to the studio while Noel was trying to work, culminating in Noel hitting Liam over the head with a cricket bat. Noel later described this event as "possibly the biggest fight we ever had".
[quote] In 2009, prior to the group's break, Noel called Liam "rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy", describing him as "the angriest man you'll ever meet ... like a man with a fork in a world of soup". The final straw for the band came at Rock En Seine in Paris, when an altercation between the brothers (subsequently described by Noel as "no physical violence but there was a lot of World Wrestling Federation stuff") prior to their performance resulted in the destruction of Noel's guitar and saw him announce his departure from the group. Liam later claimed he "messed the first one up" when questioned about his 2019 MTV Unplugged performance and has since claimed he missed the show because he "accidentally got drunk again".
[quote] Liam has stated he does not speak much with Noel and that they "don't really have a relationship". During the final tour, the only time that they ever spoke directly was when onstage.
[quote] Noel would later reveal that while they were in Oasis, the two "never hung out together outside of the band, ever". Since the band's split, the only direct contact they have had with each other has consisted of exchanging text messages at Christmas; Liam also invited Noel to his wedding, which is scheduled to take place in 2021, but does not believe Noel will attend.
[quote] Despite their constant fighting, the Gallaghers showed mutual affection before, during, and after their time in Oasis. Liam often calls Noel the best songwriter in the world, while Noel frequently calls Liam "cooler" than himself and praises Liam's good looks. Noel has said that Oasis came down to the relationship between him and Liam. Weeks prior to this, Noel said Liam was "obsessed with him", leading Liam to allege the same thing about Noel.

R85 the fact that Liam likes to clout people with his tambourine might be my favourite fact about him. Strange that a man so aggressive and nasty in some ways also has a bizarrely endearing and twee streak.
The equally high Egos on both brothers was the issue in the relationship. You can see in old concert footage that they both tended to fuck up and tread on the toes of the whole band when on stage, but they’d tried to deflect blame onto each other. Which made for humour and an entertaining show, but wasn’t professional or mature musicianship in the least.

by Anonymous | reply 121 | February 4, 2022 7:32 PM |
R121 ymmv but I think Liam’s resentment about that is justified.
Liam’s voice (and swagger, and image) were the key to Oasis’ success; the magic intangible element that connected the audience to the songs. That’s what legendary vocalists can do. Noel is capable of singing a song, the same way Ed Sheeran is; he can’t perform and embody and make one bespoke in the way Liam can, though.

R141 Liam's "men and religion have broken me" quote from an old interview:
[quote]Liam: I suffered a lot when I was a kid, it made me stronger. My father especially hurt me a lot. My mother's old friend as well. They showed me only the dirtiest face of life: insults, blows. Men and religion have broken me. But I understood very fast that I couldn't believe in God anymore but only in myself. And it's true that I became a man in spite of myself. I grew up too fast. I'm 24, but I've seen too many things. I'm still that angry kid and unfortunately I'm not about to calm down. I'll never forget a big fight between my parents; he didn't stop hitting her. She decided it was enough, she wanted to divorce. She used to go every week to the church but immediately after that she wasn't allowed to have the Communion anymore. She wasn't allowed anymore to eat Christ's body just cos she wanted to protect herself from a violent husband. I've never forgiven that hypocrisy from the Catholic Church. Religion turned its back to my mum so I turned my back to religion.

R146 defo much harder to hate and criticise Liam hearing him speak like that. He at least manages to identify the problem with a patriarchal and faith-based societal structure and the harm it inevitably does to women and children, which is more insight than many men ever glean. That I can respect him for.
He’s still not quite exonerated however, if only for his old habit of meteing out violence at will to any random bloke and shagging women rather inconsiderately. Yes, in fairness it was a phase that’s over now, his testosterone mixed with drug abuse made him him do it, and his CSA was being triggered hardcore by the pressures of fame, but technically he was still passing on the abuse he suffered and that is kind of fucked up on his part.
I hopefully assume he treats his partner and kids better.

R162 sorry but how didn’t you clock Alex? He’s very very swishy. The stereotypical effete posho bisexual Tory boy. He’s practically a caricature. He must have slept with half of London during the height of his fame, men and women. Out of interest which was the girl you knew in his book? (and which book?), and did she enjoy her time with him?
by Anonymous | reply 164 | February 11, 2022 10:59 PM |
Alex James had or has a thing for Blur’s drummer Dave Rowntree, I reckon.
Sounds mad until you take a closer look at their connection. Seems like an intense deep relationship. Alex shows a side of his personality that is very clingy and seriously honest and raw when he’s with Dave, in a way he doesn’t with anyone else in public, which suggests they have a high degree of vulnerability and trust between them. Musical partners can often have these bonds, but there’s something a little more...hmmmm here imo. They do a lot together outside of the band just the two of them..
Plus it must have been refreshing for Alex to be with humdrum lowkey boring beige homely (sorry) Dave back in the day when every glitzy celeb wanted a piece of him. That’s actually how they became close friends—none of Alex’s sleb mates wanted to listen to him rabbit on about science and cuisine and transport and all his other nerdy interests, but he found that Dave did want to indulge him. That must feel nice, to be validated as a thinking interesting person when the world sees you only as a popular butterfly and a shallow whore.
And Dave for all his apparent quiet dull middleclassness is quite a tough guy; no one wanted to take him on back when he still drank. Flighty passive Alex I imagine enjoys a firm hand and a dominant partner.

R196 while to say *all* Oasis/HFB songs are about Liam is a massive stretch and a bit silly, there are at least a dozen songs in the catalogue with lyrics that correlate very strongly to someone who fits Liam’s profile.

R225 The original shot with Liam would've made for better artwork. Noel always seemed jealous of Liam.
[quote]The never-used Wonderwall cover: Noel wanted a picture of someone framed. I thought it might look twee if we weren't careful so Brian (Cannon) and I decided we'd have the contrast with Liam inside the frame. We set up camp on Primrose Hill. Owen Morris (the single's producer) was holding the picture frame with Liam posing. All of the sudden a taxi screeches by with this guy screaming at us out of the window. Then he got out of the cab -still ranting- and I thought, God, who is this nutter? When I turned around I saw it was Noel. He asked us what the hell we thought we were doing. He said, “It's a love song, there is no way it's having our kid on the sleeve!” With that, the shoot was aborted and we had to reshoot the next day with Anita Heyret from Creation replacing Liam. - Michael Spencer Jones, photographer.

The genius of Oasis & the Gallaghers is that they had a commercial sound but they emerged out of the DIY/lo-Fi/shoegaze & Baggy scene which was very much all about defying the brand-and-status obsessed GQ/Tatler consciousness espoused by all the trendy upper-middle-class cunts of the time. When they first broke through, Oasis and their message of collectivist euphoria and The Charver Derive spoke to a silent majority of lower-class/income people who couldn’t access and mostly didn’t want or need the aspirational lifestyle sold by the mass media. Unfortunately and inevitably, the millions thrown at the band eventually disconnected them from this core original fanbase.

R242 I remember when Liam turned down a major modeling deal with Calvin Klein in the 90s.

R245 He definitely sounds like he’s had therapy. He hasn’t been lashing out on Noel on social media as much in the last few years either. I remember reading an interview where he mentioned something about feeling abandoned by Noel.
[quote]"I thought he was joking when he said he hated me, but now I think he actually doesn't like me. The olive branches have been out many times. I have no more. I did my best. And my best wasn't good enough. So I'll leave it at that. It would be nice for my family, for my brother Paul and my kids and me mam and all that. It would be nice but like I said, I can't go round begging people for my love." - Liam

Ngl my heart breaks a little bit hearing that😥if my close (platonic!) sibling did this to me I’d be devo’d, even if I had nearly deserved it.
Not disputing that Liam is/was hard to live with and can be a massive prick, but time marches on and he seems to have changed. If appearances do match reality, then Noel is miserably grudgeholding and protracting suffering needlessly, just to prove a point and serve his own ego.

How much cocaine did the Gallagher brothers snort throughout the 90s I wonder
by Anonymous | reply 259 | March 9, 2022 3:00 PM |
R259 There's a story in the Supersonic doc (trailer at R61) about how they snorted a bunch of crystal meth, mistaking it for coke, resulting in an infamously disastrous show. There's footage of it in the doc.
[quote]6. Crystal meth wrecked their American launch. Their first U.S. show, at the Whisky a Go Go in 1994, was a notorious trainwreck; thanks to a mix-up with set lists, each member of the band started playing a different song at one point. That footage is here in all its insane glory, but the doc also cites another reason for the onstage travesty: crystal meth. Oasis had discovered it right before the gig and misused it: “We all thought it was coke and were doing big fucking lines of it,” Liam recalls. The band was up for days, resulting in the hot mess onstage.

Dogs, it's just fuckin: 'Play with me, play with me, please?! Throw that fuckin' ball for me cos' I need some fuckin' company…’ It's as basic as that. You can't change the way that you are. I'm a cat, okay? That's just what I am. I've accepted it. I'm a bit of a bastard. What can I say, you know? I'm a bit of a cunt."

Must be bloody weird being him, watching their behaviour from the outside and trying to make sense of it all while also living a normal non-famous non-wealthy life in obscurity.
Paul isn't estranged from either, he speaks with both and actually has joined Liam on tour in recent years, as a photographer. He also seems to have made his peace with being the 'other Gallagher brother' who isn't wealthy or famous, he travels quite a bit and seems to have many friends both famous and non, if you judge by his social media.

[italic]Liam Gallagher has said he needs a double hip replacement after being diagnosed three tears ago with arthritis. He said “My hips are f***ed, I’ve got arthritis, bad. I went to get it checked out and my bones are mashed up. The lady was going, ‘Oh, you might need a hip operation, a replacement. I think I’d rather just be in pain. Which is ridiculous, obviously. I know that. Just get them fixed. But it’s the stigma, saying you’ve had your hips replaced. What’s next?”
He said he was put off the procedure after being told he could die during the operation – where your hip bone is replaced by an artificial implant.
He joked his fiancée, Debbie Gwyther could act as a carer for him. He asaid “F*** off. I’m not going to crisp it having my hip cracked, thank you. I’d rather be in a wheelchair, with Debbie pushing me around, like Little Britain.”
by Anonymous | reply 287 | April 20, 2022 6:58 PM |
He better be careful, or he'll end up like Prince or Tom Petty, both of whom avoided the same surgery and ended up in so much pain they got addicted to pain pills. And we know what happened next. Madonna, too, is a case example of his future, as many of her current issues imo stem from some kind of opioid/pain medication haze. He's already admitted he's using sleeping pills.
He's a bit out of touch - there's not much stigma associated with hip replacement anymore, with the updated surgical techniques. Yeah he'll be out of commission for a while and will need a lot of PT, but he's relatively young (not even 50 yet) in decent physical shape and should bounce back nicely. He'd be ready to rock in no time. I also know he's a bit of a running addict so being out of commission from that must be depressing.

by Anonymous | reply 291 | April 20, 2022 10:39 PM |
Um, what's so misogynist about noting the double role his partner plays for him? She's known as a hard-nosed businessperson, nothing derogatory about that. If he's not going to perform and continue to make money, why would she otherwise stick around and put up with his chavvy shenanigans? There are loads of younger, hungrier acts who would be sure to work with her. She single-handedly brought LG back from the brink of professional obscurity several years ago.

Liam's latest. I think filmed in Manchester. Decent, catchy and commercial while still keeping that semi-trippy, Oasis-esque vibe.
Is it me, or can it be said LG's nearly fully thrown off the shadow of NG with this latest record? It's gotten decent reviews, he wrote much of it, and he's just sold out two headliner Knebworth shows on his own.

R298 from a fan, ta very much lad!!!! It was a long road (16 years!) but we got there in the end eh??!! And what a finish from our Greek Scouser Tsimi!!!
This truly is our era, well-deserved, and we're coming for all the trophies we can get off the back of this. Man City can keep on with their financial doping and their bribing refs and their stealing players from the open market---all that effort and money and desperation, and it clearly isn't working in their favour, is it? Team synergy, inspired coaching, a club ethos, and a clutch mentality is truly what matters to get you over the finish line....
