I ordered my first Yerba Mate

And its going to arrive tomorrow. This will be my first time drinking Yerba Mate. I always wanted to try Yerba Mate but there were none available in my area ever. So, I just ordered a Cruz De Malta brand on Amazon. I'm so excited about drinking my first Yerba Mate and it will be quite an experience since I have no reference to judge it on. Have any of you DLers had Yerba Mate? And did/do you like the taste of Yerba Mate? I read that it's loaded with anti-oxidants. Ahhh Yerba Mate. I wanna hear more about this exotic drink that is Yerba Mate.

OP, you should have it with crackers!

It doesn't count unless you drink your first yerba mate in Argentina with a bombilla and use a gourd.

by Anonymousreply 2January 17, 2022 10:41 PM

What's wrong with you, OP, won't be corrected by Yerba Fucking Mate.

by Anonymousreply 3January 17, 2022 10:50 PM

I hadn't pondered Yerba Mate. Now, thanks to OP's fun Yerba Mate questions, I'm off to the store! Brought to you by YM Growers of Ecuador.

by Anonymousreply 4January 17, 2022 10:57 PM

Yerba Mate cleared up my acne and stacked my panties!

by Anonymousreply 5January 17, 2022 11:04 PM

Sounds good. I've never tried it but I've been looking for hot drinks that are less staining to teeth than tea and coffee and mate's supposed to be one.

by Anonymousreply 6January 17, 2022 11:07 PM

Looks like kale soup in the OP's pic. Do you suppose it makes ones poo green?

by Anonymousreply 7January 17, 2022 11:09 PM

OP are you selling a new product? Yerba Mate by any chance?

by Anonymousreply 8January 17, 2022 11:18 PM

R2 I can't afford to go to Argentina at this time to have my first Yerba Mate and I'm too horny to wait any longer. I want to lose my Yerba Mate virginity. I can't wait no more.

by Anonymousreply 9January 17, 2022 11:18 PM

Like OP, I was excited when I first tried yerba mate. But it was had a boring taste and I never bought it again. The end.

by Anonymousreply 10January 17, 2022 11:19 PM

Mating season is upon us!

by Anonymousreply 11January 17, 2022 11:19 PM

It won't taste right without a silver bombilla, OP

by Anonymousreply 12January 17, 2022 11:23 PM

If yer going to drink it, make sure you pronounce it correctly, mate.

by Anonymousreply 13January 17, 2022 11:24 PM

The fuck is a yerba Mate?

by Anonymousreply 14January 17, 2022 11:35 PM

Looks like petrified turtle shit.

by Anonymousreply 15January 17, 2022 11:44 PM

Yerba mate = holly bush leaves

by Anonymousreply 16January 17, 2022 11:47 PM

It's better with cream and sugar.

by Anonymousreply 17January 17, 2022 11:51 PM

Never heard it but I sure hope it calms you the fuck down. I have never seen anyone so excited about a drink.

by Anonymousreply 18January 17, 2022 11:52 PM

Does it have any psychoactive effects?

by Anonymousreply 19January 18, 2022 12:11 AM

Too much yerba mate causes BB balls.

by Anonymousreply 20January 18, 2022 12:27 AM

R20 What are BB balls?

by Anonymousreply 21January 18, 2022 12:30 AM

Small balls

by Anonymousreply 22January 18, 2022 12:36 AM

It's fucking herbal tea, settle down.

by Anonymousreply 23January 18, 2022 12:37 AM

Does it come with a couple bone broth and steamed vagina on the side?

Asian products hundreds of years old legitimized only when pretentious white people blog about it and act like they discovered penicillin

by Anonymousreply 24January 18, 2022 12:41 AM

OP, Yerba mate is more than drinking…it’s a ritual, and you need to do it with the right vessel…a gourd and silver bombilla…and with a circle of friends. Research it, and do it correctly. Otherwise, it’s nothing.

And you type like German Gay Guy

by Anonymousreply 25January 18, 2022 12:42 AM

r10 is correct!

by Anonymousreply 26January 18, 2022 12:45 AM

Is this like bush tea?

by Anonymousreply 27January 18, 2022 12:47 AM

Thank you, r26. I try!

by Anonymousreply 28January 18, 2022 12:48 AM

What is it and what does it do?

by Anonymousreply 29January 18, 2022 12:54 AM

R22 what are your sources that it causes ball shrinkage? Because that implies that this drink has an effect on testosterone. Wouldn't it be a major health crisis in South America then, since this is an incredibly popular beverage and has been for a long time?

by Anonymousreply 30January 18, 2022 1:03 AM

I grew up with mate in Argentina. I never liked the taste -to me it was like drinking grass. Of course I drank it in the traditional way, in a gourd with a silver bombilla, and alternating layers of mate and sugar in the gourd/cup. Didn't help.

You do have to be careful how much you drink. It frequently causes upset stomach, and it is associated with increased cancer risk.

There was a serious trend to drinking mate a few years ago. I was happy to see it pass.

by Anonymousreply 31January 18, 2022 1:23 AM

What a coincidence, I just ordered my first Coffee Mate! (French vanilla, I feel so International)

by Anonymousreply 32January 18, 2022 2:51 AM

Is your Yerba Mate an Yerba Mate of Yerba Mate or Yerba Mate in an Yerba Mate? I have Yerba Mated with Yerba Mate, but not Yerba Mate of Yerba Mate.

by Anonymousreply 33January 18, 2022 2:58 AM

Argentinean here. Congrats!! Some tips? Add some orange peel to the yerba, don't even try to drink it without at least some sugar and spit out the first two mate "drags", they're too bitter for anyone.

For a cool summer drink, have some "terere"..that is, mate brewed with lemonada or sprite...delish.

Not a huge mate drinker myself tho...the social ritual is better than the drink itself and in these covid times, that has sadly become more and more obsolete.

by Anonymousreply 34January 18, 2022 2:59 AM

R34 Thanks! Also, why sugar? Is it bitter without the sugar?

by Anonymousreply 35January 18, 2022 4:09 AM

No need to go to Argentina. You can drink it more calmly and with significantly less ego in Chile.

by Anonymousreply 36January 18, 2022 4:16 AM

Add me to the list of people who think it tastes like liquid grass.

BA is fun. Wouldn't go at this point (because of you-know-what). And apparently street crime at this point is insane.

The boys are hung and gorgeous and the city is STUPID cheap. Like, full steak dinner, wine, all the trimmings, for USD$20. Subway is USD$0.10 per ride.

On the downside, tons of desperately poor people.

If you're going to commit to mate a bombilla would be a wise investment.

And it is most definitely NOT herbal tea. About as much caffeine as coffee.

by Anonymousreply 38January 18, 2022 4:22 AM

R35 yes super bitter. Some people drink it like that in Argentina but I wouldnt try it at first, especially not if the yerba is fresh and unused.

by Anonymousreply 39January 18, 2022 4:37 AM

R36 the men are not quite as handsome nor is Santiago as beautiful as BA. Other than that, you're right, though really it's Uruguay that takes mate love and turns it into an art form.

by Anonymousreply 40January 18, 2022 4:42 AM

[quote] OP, Yerba mate is more than drinking…it’s a ritual, and you need to do it with the right vessel…a gourd and silver bombilla…and with a circle of friends. Research it, and do it correctly. Otherwise, it’s nothing.

Oh for Christ’s sake, drinking tea in Britain used to be a ritual. 4pm. Cups, saucers. Sugar, cream. Cucumber sandwiches. Fairy bread for children. Now “tea” just means “dinner.” No magic, no medicine.

by Anonymousreply 41January 18, 2022 4:50 AM

An antioxidant "green" drink that has cancer risks? Are you sure about that? I've tried it and it's ok but not great. Tastes like it should be really healthy though. Or at least have some psychedelic properties. Jesus H Gyp!

by Anonymousreply 42January 18, 2022 5:45 AM

Update on my Yerba Mate experience:

I love it. The first few fills were super bitter but the refills after those were chill. I get the "liquid grass" taste some DLers here talked about but I enjoyed it. It's a hit for me.

by Anonymousreply 43January 18, 2022 7:37 PM

Next try rooibos tea and compare/contrast.

by Anonymousreply 44January 18, 2022 7:42 PM

I can't stand rooibos either -it's worse than yerba mate.

For R42, the link below is for the Mayo Clinic.

I'm sorry, I thought this was the "I Want To Be Underwhelmed" thread at first

by Anonymousreply 46January 19, 2022 1:13 AM

Yerba Mate on a good day tastes like bong water. I prefer Coca leaf tea.

by Anonymousreply 47February 15, 2022 10:48 PM

I love Rooibos tea

by Anonymousreply 48February 16, 2022 12:35 AM

[quote]bone broth

UGH.

Just say STOCK or BROTH.
