From what I've seen, kids who go off the deep end like this typically have emotionally unintelligent parents. For instance, Jennifer Pan, Casey Anthony, Jodi Arias, Scott Peterson, and Chris Watts all had parents like that to one degree or another.

From the trial today it seems Chaz did his dismemberng activities in the basement. It’s a big basement with a workbench, two freezers and a nice big fireplace. The fireplace had bone fragments in it and parts of the fireplace insert had the paint bubbled and burned off from the high heat. He had it burning extra hot, apparently.

Seems like the smell of burning flesh would have permeated the entire house though. Still puzzled that the gf didn’t notice anything being ‘off.’

It takes many many hours and high heat to burn remains and the criminals don't know that so they panic and all they are doing is cooking the body and then the mistakes happen.
