Is there gonna be something gay this time?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 20, 2021 7:20 PM |
This season looks more dark and intense than the first, which was already dark.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 20, 2021 7:25 PM |
Zendaya can't act, at all.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 20, 2021 7:34 PM |
So much cock.
I think two were pretty obviously fake.
The guy on the toilet though... hawt. Can't wait for the captures.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 10, 2022 2:01 AM |
45 minutes in and already 2 cocks.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 10, 2022 2:26 AM |
Three total by the end. The third one was the best.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 10, 2022 2:58 AM |
That was an intense season opener.
This show is so good.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 10, 2022 3:12 AM |
Why does this show need cock out so much?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 10, 2022 3:17 AM |

Cocks are edgy like strobe lights, drugs, and shitting at parties.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 10, 2022 3:23 AM |
What year is it supposed to be? No kids I know listen to THAT MUCH old school rap. Maybe one song here and there, unless they're nerds. Is it 1996?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 10, 2022 3:26 AM |
Hmm, I must have missed a cock. I saw the drug dealer’s when they made him strip, and then the guy on the toilet. Where was the third? Sadly, I’m sure it wasn’t Jacob Elordi.

Grandma shoots the dad at the strip club who is getting a bj.

EPIC start
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 10, 2022 3:52 AM |
This was a heavy episode. I was stressed throughout, especially during the drunken truck ride. Nate getting into McKay’s face was so sexy.
Nate getting a bottle to the face was a long-time coming but really hard to watch that beating.
What comes around goes around Fez.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 10, 2022 3:52 AM |
You know Nate wants McKay’s cum from that scene. Best part of the episode and nicely executed.
Those inflated lips on Grandma and the heroine hooker were just bizarre. WTF. The whole thing is a gross freakshow. Like Requiem for a Dream if it were directed by Tarantino. Entertainment for sociopaths with no redeeming valued except shock.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 10, 2022 4:03 AM |
That one was obviously a prosthetic as it was erect r13. Hopefully the others were real.
Why can't there be cock r8? There were also a lot of breasts, were is your complaint about that. The point is to push boundaries, highlight how other shows are afraid to have nudity that includes *gasp* a penis.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 10, 2022 4:09 AM |
Can't stand with that tranny.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 10, 2022 4:11 AM |
R12, how did you miss the first one? Right at the beginning when the woman catches her husband getting a blowjob at the strip club so she shoots him in the legs while his still erect cock is right there. It's not like it was just a brief glimpse, it was a lingering close-up.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 10, 2022 4:11 AM |
Jewels is my favorite character.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 10, 2022 4:11 AM |
Nate is just so fucking hot.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 10, 2022 4:12 AM |
Oh, that’s right. I guess I blocked out the fake old fat guy cock.
Who played the grandmother? She looked familiar.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 10, 2022 4:12 AM |
Wow, Jude Apatow's daughter cannot act for shit!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 10, 2022 4:31 AM |
They really should have just hired Ellen Barkin to play the grandmother, that actress was channeling her from Animal Kingdom anyways.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 10, 2022 5:07 AM |
For those who said the drug dealer grandma looked familiar, she was played by Kathrine Narducci. Narducci is best known for her role as Charmaine Bucco, Artie Bucco's wife, on The Sopranos.
The crispy looking fried blond hair threw me off, but I recognized her face and that VOICE!
Here she is with Quentin Tarantino.

Addiction stories are so tedious. There's enough natural conflict built in to the relationships to this show that we don't need Zombie Zendaya to drive action.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 10, 2022 1:12 PM |
Then you might be watching the wrong show r26. Rue being a drug addict is a central premise of the show from day one. The showrunner Sam Levinson was a drug addict, this is what he wants to write about.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 10, 2022 1:31 PM |
I just find enough other stuff to engage me, R27, but you're right, I have to live with the addiction story. I just don't know why anyone finds addiction stories compelling -- but I must be in the minority, because they're all over the place
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 10, 2022 1:43 PM |
R28, did you watch the Euphoria "specials" from last year? The one with Rue in the coffee shop with her sponsor talking about addiction?
If you didn't find that episode compelling, I don't know what to tell you.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 10, 2022 2:22 PM |
That episode was compelling but not because of Zombdaya.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 10, 2022 2:36 PM |
I like both actors and I think they did a great job, R29 -- but honesty, I'd have preferred to watch them discuss the weather for an hour than this endless rehash of addiction issues. It's just the same thing, over and over again. I realize that this is probably a very accurate representation of addictive behavior ... which is why I've always run very far in the opposite direction when I've encountered an alcoholic or drug addict IRL.
But again, I agree that this my issue and the show will continue to hinge on Rue's struggle with substances, so I'm just going to shut up now.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 10, 2022 2:37 PM |
I'm curious if they are actually going to pair up her and Fez r23. Her character was pretty sidelined in Season 1, I guess that is one way to get her involved in the action.
She isn't the best I agree, nepotism hires, but she isn't terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 10, 2022 3:00 PM |
Hunter Schafer has noticeably aged since the first season, and so have the other actors to varying degrees. But of the main cast, Hunter looked the most different.
I also thought it was kind of unrealistic a party with now high school kids would have so much '90s hip-hop playing.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 10, 2022 3:52 PM |
Yeah with the long two and a half (!) years between seasons aging of the cast was going to be a thing. Ashtray looks completely different but no time is supposed to have passed between season 1 and 2.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 10, 2022 3:57 PM |
I found the premiere underwhelming. The greatest challenge the show faces is not relying too much on style over substance. Last season, they pulled it off. This episode felt like overkill. Why are they shooting the whole thing on 35 mm now? What was with the lingering end sequence of stagnant party shots? It felt like an over-budget American Apparel photo shoot and nothing Fiona Apple didn't do better with the "Criminal" music video. There was another random scene where Sydney Sweeney's character (who I really like) hides in the bathroom from Nate's ex-girlfriend for what seemed like half the episode. Why? It felt like an oddly placed French farce. I'm happy that Rue made a new friend at the party, but disappointed she still went back to Jules, the can-do-no-wrong character who everyone inexplicably obsesses over.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 10, 2022 4:16 PM |
Interesting, I actually thought this episode had less fantastical stylistic moments than season 1 which really leaned heavily into that r35.
I really apprecuate the visual approach this show takes, but it can go overboad. I was not a fan of the season 1 finale which went that musical choir sequence.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 10, 2022 6:41 PM |
Yeah, I found this premiere good. It was toned down in some ways while amped up in others
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 10, 2022 6:45 PM |
The guy with the big uncut dick in the bathroom scene was Ansel Pierce. In the comments on his instagram he wants to be sure everyone knows that was him and not a prosthetic.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 10, 2022 7:18 PM |
This seems like it was made by someone who went to only one party in high school.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 10, 2022 8:54 PM |
Thought most of the series was focused on working class high school kids?
Where are these drug parties taking place? Who owns these huge homes with pools? Where tons of drug addled kids run amok.
In most films, and TV series, showing partying teens, and even people in their early 20s, it's usually the rich kids houses where parties are held. Wealthy parents travel a lot, certain types of parents don't actually supervise their kids lives, they just throw money and 'things' at them: expensive cars, trips etc.
I went to art school with many kids like this, I was not friendly with them, but was certainly familiar with their unsupervised lifestyles. That aspect is believable, neglected teens and young people, from wealthy backgrounds, who have so much money then can throw parties every weekend and buy tons of drugs.
The aspect which doesn't ring true, poor kids hanging with rich kids, not so much. Most people hang with their own socio-economic group, are we to believe the poor kids are hanging with the rich kids?
Sam Levinson came from money. His father is director Barry Levinson, his mom is Diana Rhodes, a production designer for commercials. Write what you know.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 10, 2022 9:46 PM |
Does the show take place in LA? If so, this is very realistic. It’s easy to end up at some rich kids party in LA, especially if you’re young and attractive
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 10, 2022 9:49 PM |
Talking about the "realism" of Euphoria is always a weird one to me, at no point (to me at least) does this seem like it this trying to be a realistic look at high school. It's a very surreal hyper-reality vibe.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 10, 2022 9:52 PM |
Anybody else think that the final scene about Nate was payback to Elordi who had shot his mouth off at the end of last season that he had been injured doing the beating scene with his father and how he had become concussed from slamming his head against the floor and wall so often. And they came back and said that none of it was true and that they ran a hundred percent safe set? It was like if you’re going to say that, we’re really going to give you something you can’t handle.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 10, 2022 11:16 PM |
Do you think Jacob Elordi actually got injured during that scene r44 lol, how would it be "payback". It's all pretend.
I do actually remember what you are referring to, Levinson did seem to eyeroll about Elordi's embellishing the shit out of that story. But I don't see how they are related.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 10, 2022 11:36 PM |
I took it the Nate/MCKay scene as Nate’s typical possession/control focus broadening to include Cassie, and a power trip because he knew something McKay didn’t. But a lot of people are seeing it as straightforward sexual interest in McKay. What’s DL’s take?

This series is like looking at endless photos taken by Davide Sorrenti, Larry Clark, Ryan McGinley, Nan Golden and Dash Snow. Endless photos of very self-destructive young people who live in their own little world, thinking they will live forever.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 11, 2022 6:18 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 11, 2022 6:36 AM |
R51, all the photographers I listed basically shot the dark underbelly of NYC's drug and art scenes, from the 1970s through the early 2000s. As expected, so many involved were from privileged and very wealthy backgrounds.
Dash Snow was a real piece of work, he died in 2007 at 27 from a heroin OD in a $325 a night downtown NYC hotel.
Dash was Uma Thurman's nephew. Dash was entitled with nothing better to do with his trust fund but get high, fuck anything that moved and photograph all his low life partners in crime with a Polaroid. His photos were not art, but somehow art dealers bought into his grift, likely because of his very wealthy background. On his mother's side was the great-grandson of French aristocrats who were heirs to fortunes in textiles and oil-drilling equipment (from the Schlumberger oil dynasty) and founders of Houston's Menil Collection. A background like that sure helps when a person has little real talent.
Every generation has this same sort of low-life scene which someone depicts in photos, nothing new there.
Basically, Dash was yet another useless trust funder, a man with more money than brains. Next!

I was simply trying to give some people a little background re certain types of affluent young people. The types who waste their lives on drugs and booze and feeling the need to be part of a popular clique. Not everyone can easily quit drugs. Not every parent can send their kids to a high-priced rehab clinic. Poor people who end up addicted, usually wind up prostituting themselves or homeless or both.
Young people have so much to live for. I know, MARY! Watching this series is extremely depressing. It's like Requiem for Dream on a loop.
If you want to see cocks, watch porn.

Do viewers really care about seeing male nudity in cable TV shows? Seriously? Is that this series main draw, male nudity? Nate is such a horrible person, I could care less about seeing his dick. He really does have a punchable face. I enjoyed seeing him get beat up!
Who wanted to see that fat guy's fake cock? Not all nudity is pleasant, attractive or erotic. Guess I'm in the minority here, I'd rather a TV series have a decent storyline and good acting. This series has neither, lots of aimless young people getting high and fucking at every available opportunity.
I'm numb to nudity, I went to art school, we always had nude models. I guess nudity is still taboo in 2022? America is so behind with everything.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 11, 2022 9:01 AM |
No. All over TikTok young people discuss the actual show and the characters, their personalities, their relationships etc. only on DL is it about dicks, like little kids.
My interpretation of Nate and McKay isn’t that is was sexual, but about dominance and intimidation. Nate is being possessive and knows something McKay doesn’t, and wants to make him feel a certain way.

The scene where the drug dealer is stripping down Fez and the rest while dancing to Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line".... is that Sam Levinson's tribute to Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, when Michael Madsen is torturing the cop while sexily dancing to Gerry Rafferty's "Stuck in the Middle with You"?

My thoughts on S2E1:
- Zendaya is so overrated as an actress. She's unbelievably beautiful, sure, but she drags down every scene in which she appears.
- There's something so hot about Angus Cloud (Fez) even though he can't act for shit.
- Jacob Elordi is so unbeliably hot, I can't stand it. The scenes with Cassie and Nate speeding and drinking in the truck, and Nate harrassing McKay at the party were so sexually charged. Nate's horrible, but he's easily my favorite character.
- Hunter Schafer had a soft beauty in S1, but she looked surprisingly more masculine in the S2 opener. Initially, I was shocked to find out she's actually transgender...but now it seems a lot more obvious.
- Loved Martha Kelly playing a drug dealer. She was hilarious on "Baskets."
- Everyone raves about how great the show is. I still don't know why it exists and I don't particularly carea what happens to any of the characters (even though I hope Nate's face is ok!). However, the direction and music are consistently perfect. Each episide is like being in a dream.

That’s what I noticed about Jules, too, how her face and frame have become more male-like. I think it’s the two years and getting older - everyone looked so much older, and so not high school.

by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 12, 2022 12:43 PM |
I accidentally started watching S1E1, and because it had been so long I completely forgot I had already watched it. Anyway, it reminded me that since the character Rue was so different from Zendaya's previous roles, I was originally impressed by her performance. However, as the show progressed I quickly came to see her as the weakest link.
Zendaya is to acting as Cindy Crawford was to modeling. Neither is the best in their field, but they're smart, motivated, and easy to work with...so they managed to rise to the top of their professions.
Anyway, can someone please clear something up for me: I don't know why, but I initially got the impression Nate was in the closet. By the end of S1, he hadn't done anything particularly gay, but the McKay scene in S2 reminded me of my earlier suspicion. Was that just wishful thinking on my part since Jacob Elordi is so hot? I can't recall what planted that original seed...

I was thinking that too; I think it's the shoulders - while she looks feminine up close, a wide shot reveals that she looks like she could be a younger Skarsgard brother

Nate's father is gay so that obviously gives him a lot of complicated thoughts about his own sexuality r101 and this desire to project this toxic alpha male persona, but in terms of what we have seen on screen there is nothing that says Nate is actually gay himself, unless you count his attraction to Jules.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 12, 2022 1:04 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 104 | January 12, 2022 1:05 PM |
In the bridge episode focusing on her character, Jules told her therapist that she wanted to discontinue her blockers. Maybe that was a way to cover for her more masculine appearance this year.
JULES: I mean, uh… Yeah. Uh, I think I really wanna go off my hormones.
THERAPIST: Okay.
JULES: Or… Well, not like everything. Probably just my blockers. I have, like, this weird sci-fi chip implant in my arm.
THERAPIST: Supprelin?
JULES: Yeah, and it, like, stops my voice from dropping. Um, my balls from getting bigger, you know? The kind of shit that men wouldn’t find desirable.

by Anonymous | reply 108 | January 12, 2022 1:38 PM |
R108, the scene isn't as hot as that TilTok clip indicates. Nate proceeds to beat the shit out of that guy as soon as he kneels down (worse than what happened to him in the latest episode).

The main thoughts about Nate being Gay is that he has an extensive collection of Dic pics in his phone, none of which are his and he’s on Gay apps as well.

Nate isn’t gay though. Like this black gay guy said on TikTok, people wanting that character to be gay doesn’t mean he’s gay, and most likely he isn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | January 12, 2022 3:22 PM |
r112 then he's bi, whatever. He went after pre-op Jules (they sent nudes), he had tons of dick picks on his phone of various colors (couldn't be catfishing), he watching his dad fuck guys and trans partners, he was getting off on McKay's dick going in Cassie after his. He's probably not gay, but certainly bisexual. Nate likes cock.

He had the dick picks on his phone to catfish Jules who is on Gay hook-up apps (that's how Jules met Nate's dad). Apparently his dick isn't impressive enough to be sent.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | January 12, 2022 3:36 PM |
The dicks were white, black, and brown r115. His profile was of a white guy. Those dicks pics were partially for Jules but also for himself.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | January 12, 2022 3:39 PM |
No. He downloaded different dick pics to catfish Jules with. If she blocked one account he could make another with a different guy.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | January 12, 2022 3:41 PM |
r117 we have no proof of that, but ewe do know that the profile was white and he had tons of photos of other color's cocks. He's also super weird about dicks in public (overcompensation).
He's also into a girl with a dick! He's a bisexual, no matter what the SJW have to say about it.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | January 12, 2022 3:54 PM |
[Quote]He's also super weird about dicks in public (overcompensation)
Well yeah, he found out as a kid that his dad secretly fucks a lot of guys and started watching his dad's gay sex tapes. He has a shit ton of issues around his sexuality.
Whether those issues also extend to him personally being into guys? Unknown, I doubt the character can even tell. But I don't think him being into a very femme presenting Jules is the show trying to say he is. But clearly it gives Nate some anxiety because it's a little too gay.
This is also matches Elordi's thoughts in interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | January 12, 2022 4:08 PM |
I just think that anyone attracted to someone that they know for a fact have a dick is on the bisexual spectrum. At the lake, he showed that he was very much attracted to Jules.
Nate is clearly bisexual.

Nate is a fucked up sociopath. He gets off on playing fucked up mind games with people, like Tyler (Lucas Gage) in season one.
Nate would actually thrive, taking over the drug business in the town. It gives him an even greater outlet to torment people.

Ironically, I love everything about this show except the two main characters. Rae and Jules are so tedious/grating after a while. But most everything else is brilliant and hotttt esp Jacob E and his daddy. And let's hope Daniel comes back this season!

by Anonymous | reply 125 | January 12, 2022 10:17 PM |
I think Nate is supposed to be sexually conflicted, or hates that he has some same-sex attraction. Last season, he was trying to fuck Maddy - from behind - and couldn’t get hard. I think those types of events are supposed to point to his confusion. Not saying he’s not into fucking chicks, but if you’re okay fucking chicks, would you really be that angry all the time? I get the anger stems from his father as well, but I really think there’s more to it than that. I think he’s turned on/confused by Jules, and seeing his dad fuck Jules screwed with his head. He’s also extremely jealous and possessive. And no, it’s not all wishful thinking on my part - it just seems obvious there’s more to Nate’s sexuality than people think.

by Anonymous | reply 129 | January 12, 2022 11:19 PM |
r126. I think it's more about Nate being traumatized or fucked up by being exposed to pornography (his dad's sex tapes) too early in his life. I could see the show is showing his struggle with sex in general, because of how he found out about it. Just look at Billie Eilish blaming her exposure to hardcore porn at a young age with her issues regarding sex.

Nate was exposed to porn and sex since very young. This has altered his brain and views of sex and relationships, and this is actually something that has been proven scientifically. Watching hardcore porn at a young age regularly is damaging to the brain.
It being gay sex he saw has caused a lot more issues and confusion.
Doesn’t mean he’s gay.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | January 12, 2022 11:46 PM |
It's not that it was porn. It was his father cheating on his mother, and watching the dick that made him fuck a lot of guys.
You are missing the forest for the trees, that it was porn is the more minor part of the psychological scarring r134.

R143, that question was already asked and answered... but to repeat: those two "special" episodes are not exactly REQUIRED to watch season 2, but they're incredibly good. They're very focused episodes... one is mostly Rue and her Sponsor sitting at a diner talking. It's great. The other is mostly Jules and her therapist talking. And it's even better.
Neither episode is anything like a normal episode of "Euphoria". Each is centered around just one character, and their relationship to the other.

I had never even heard of this show until a few weeks ago and just quickly scrolled down past all of these posts (as I am just getting on episode 4/ Season 1)
This is is the most addictive (and DARK) show I have ever seen. I feel very dirty after each episode. This show sometimes touches the greatness and intensity of Breaking Bad. Its kind of like Breaking Bad meets Insecure meets Girls meets Savage Streets.
It's something else.

R154 I have never even seen Gossip Girl but I think I read here that the NEW version is even better than the old version.
And I have to say that these kids (they are generally 22-26 in real life) are pretty brave to be on this show.
I cannot fathom what these scenes/scripts look like "on the page".. I am shocked at this show and was addicted by the end of the first episode.
I am going to try to catch up so I can read this thread!

The show runners are very clear the show is about teens but not for teens (although they know teens will still watch, they encourage parents to not let them). Their demographic is 21-35. And that’s who is mostly watching, but season 2 is already killing it and seems to be attracting people of all ages, a lot of people older seem to be watching too.

R166 Why wouldn't someone like Nate "go for" any woman who's hot? He's like 17. Despite all signs leading to Nate probably being closeted as cliche as that would be.

by Anonymous | reply 171 | January 14, 2022 11:25 AM |
Actually, the posts about Maddie are a relevant plug for the carnival episode: Nate berates her for the way she's dressed because his family has a concession booth at the carnival, and it's tradition for the family to work it. She jokes that her outfit will probably bring in more customers, and Nate only gets angrier.
Ultimately, she's pretty and popular, so Nate feels she's the most logical choice of girlfriend, but he still cares what his parents might think.

I'm watching the first season after catching the season 2 premiere. Maddy is basically hairless, which is Nate's #1 priority for women. He's a caricature of toxic masculinity. Really- the show writer's are my age and it's almost a hilarious satire of Jezebel and Newsweek articles made into a sexy soap opera with great cinematography (because the creator is Barry Levinson's son and has the best connections for below the line help, I'm sure).
I'll still watch it though. But it's so dramatic and grotesque.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | January 14, 2022 12:28 PM |
Well it’s a teenage drama made for adults with serious issues.
There’s a viral video on TT of a girl laughing at how people bitch about how dramatic the show is and all the issues the teens have because she personally had some of those issues as a teen and a lot of her friends did too. In the comments a lot of young people are saying the shit they’ve done themselves or their friends do or just seen people do in modern HS and how older people (Millennials and older) don’t understand what it’s like for young people in schools today vs them, with internet, easy porn access leading to everything being oversexualized or girls feeling they need to be and dress a certain way for boys to like them, easy access to drugs and pills, easy access to alcohol these days etc.
Kids today seem fucked up.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | January 14, 2022 12:33 PM |
Fucked up kids will be fucked up and dramatic- they aren't this sexy and beating people to death and getting raped every week. Also, do you really believe the kids on TikTok? All of my nieces are on there telling tales.

by Anonymous | reply 178 | January 14, 2022 12:42 PM |
R178 you have an awful flaw where you think all teens are the same, the same way you think all black people are the same and all gays are the same etc.

R187 The filmmaking/production of this show is certainly art regardless of the story content, which isn't groundbreaking but well handled. I'm no "Zendaya is a genius" troll but she is not bad or uninteresting on the show. Watch the stand alone episode with her and Colman Domingo. Both are excellent in mostly one static setting with nothing but dialogue. There is a nervous energy and tension that exudes out of this series that is palpable, i.e. the carnival episode. It may be style over substance but it is captivating entertainment nonetheless.

This show is god fucking awful. Terrible writing, terrible acting, and the so called "beauty" of it is nothing if you've seen, well, a movie that's not Marvel shit. Forget Fassbinder and Visconti, if you've watched Gasper Noe you know Euphoria isn't shit. If you're over 18 and calling it "great," you need a brain scan.

I just realized Cassie and Lexi's mom is played by Alanna Ubach, who's a great character actress. She's best known for playing Elle's friend Serena (the brunette) in Legally Blonde. She was also great as one of the co-stars of Clockwatchers (with Tony Collette, Lisa Kudrow, and Parker Posey).

A Gasper Noe film? Now, that is some mind-blowing shit.
Noe's Enter the Void was like a bad acid trip. Thankfully, we didn't have to endure too much of alcoholic burnout Paz de la Huerta's 'acting'.

The hunk in the sword fantasy was someone I frequently fantasize about seeing naked, but he's never gone full frontal, and that dick was of course totally, totally fake.
He's one of the few "long haired muscle men" I find seriously sexy and attractive. Usually that look does nothing for me.

Okay, call me pathetic, but I really really identified with the fat chick's issues... can't love back someone who loves her, hates herself, and sabotages herself. That whole scene hit really close to home.

Sydney's boobs are real, R260.
Interesting episode tonight since it wasn't focused on a character's back story. Why Nate is suddenly in love with Cassie doesn't make much sense. He was either ambivalent or outright hated her during season one. And now he wants to marry her and have babies? It seems a little inconsistent.
Hunter does look a lot more masculine this season. But in the Jules special episode, she told her therapist she wanted to stop her hormones (or take less), so that could explain why she looks different.
Next week gives Cal's long-awaited back story.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | January 17, 2022 6:26 AM |
Oh, yeah, the Cassie infatuation makes no sense...especially since teenage boys are known for being logical.
Nate was laid up in a hospital and he was daydreaming about the future. He then got out and proceeded to treat Cassie like shit.
One question I have: Cal mentioned hating his son. Did he give Fez money as a reward for beating up Nate, or was he just trying to be intimidating?

That actually makes sense for Nate…

[quote]One question I have: Cal mentioned hating his son. Did he give Fez money as a reward for beating up Nate, or was he just trying to be intimidating?
I took it as Cal rewarding Fez for the well-deserved (and long overdue) comeuppance to Nate. Cal seems to recognize Nate's problems, but because of his own issues & his awareness that Nate is on to him, he can't really do anything about it. I think this season ends with Cal trying to stop Nate, but Nate exposing him & blowing up the whole family.
I watched a Euphoria marathon yesterday; once you get passed the shock value, it kind of reminds of "My So Called Life" with nudity. I thought it was interesting & you felt for the kids in spite of the bad behavior & disastrous decisions, but I didn't really buy Nate as American Psycho & the Fat Girl Dominatrix. That Nate could spin all these webs, manipulating his way out of an assault charge & Kat could be the exploiter - rather than the exploited - just seemed far fetched.

While I enjoy Euphoria, last night it occurred to me that I genuinely don't care about any of the characters' relationships, or whether they live or die. I don't sense any genuine affection between characters, and there's nobody's death I'd find devastating. It might cross an uncrossable line in TV, but if the series ended with all the main characters dying in a school shooting, THAT would tear my heart out.
Anyway, my favorite characters are Nate and Maddy simply because they're hot and cause chaos wherever they go.

[quote]While I enjoy Euphoria, last night it occurred to me that I genuinely don't care about any of the characters' relationships, or whether they live or die.
Oh, I don't know; a lot of posters bash Zendaya, but even at her worst, Rue is a person you still want to root for & hope she makes it. At the same time, you realize the deck is stacked against her to stay sober & she clearly doesn't know how to function as a person who isn't high as a kite on something. She can be bratty & raging one minute & pitiable the next, but you still care about her even if you understand how other people are completely exasperated with her. I also like McKay because he's coming to that realization that many people come to when they leave high school - I am not as great/smart/talented as I thought I was. Everyone else in the wider world is the same or better.
I don't know doubt that people like Nate exist - I guess it was just the little "sex offender" plot twist that he used on the kid from the party & Jules seemed a bit much. At the very least, the kid from the party surely had to explain to someone (emergency room, cops, etc.) what happened to him, which would've been a good time to say "the crazy boyfriend of this girl that I fucked at a party, that I had no idea was underaged, is stalking & harassing me." Since all the kids are sending nudes to each other, why would Nate have an upper hand on Jules as "child porn"? Unlike the other kids, Jules appears to have a supportive parent she could turn to.

I think the whole set up of this series is to kill Rue’s sister as the only thing that will have any direct impact in making her change. What will be interesting to see is if it comes earlier on or only with the penultimate episode.

I was kind of hoping that the Carnival episode would've turned Rue around when she sees her little sister potentially starting her own downward spiral. But that would've probably been too Hallmark or Lifetime (getting sober for good to be a good role model for your little sister).

by Anonymous | reply 307 | January 18, 2022 2:32 AM |
LA not New York r307, this show takes place in some fictional suburban town in Southern California.
Jules ran off, but was brought back by her father. That comes from the specials.
In terms of timeline, season 1 ends with their winter dance in December. The specials take place around Christmas, and then Season 2 begins New Years Eve. So only a couple of weeks have passed between seasons.

Sociopaths do this to make their victim feel more isolated, more vulnerable, than ever. If she were close to home, she could just run back home and go to her room, her safe space, and deal with being dumped. It's usually about her going "no, don't leave me! I need you!" to make the guy feel all big and powerful.

Yes, the apartment in Rue and Jules' special episodes was a fantasy, R309. In fact, according to Rue's special episode, she's an unreliable narrator, and a lot of her interactions with Jules may have been fantasy -- the scene of them getting "RULES" tattooed on the inside of their lower lip was only a suggestion and didn't happen in real life.

Angus Cloud (Fez) is a first generation American. He was born and raised in Oakland, California but his family moved there from Ireland, where the majority of his family still is.
He was working at a chicken-and-waffles restaurant close to the Barclays Center after he moved to NYC when he was scouted by one of the producers because they felt his look and vibe WAS Fez. He thought it was a scam at first but when he realized it wasn’t the rest is history.
He was supposed to die during season 1 but he exceeded their expectations and fans like him so they kept him. He’s one of the fan favs on the show.
His dream is to build a career as a voice actor and not be in front of a camera.

I don't understand some of the logic on these threads. Why is it so difficult to suspend disbelief? It's a goddamn TV show, but people are projecting their asses off here. "Nate wouldn't do this or Nate wouldn't go for that." I mean...really examining the psychology of a character --who isn't very deep in the first place--is kinda odd. ESPECIALLY, coming from people who are most likely 20 years old than the show's demographic. I get why psych hospitals don't let patience watch a lot of these shows.

I just watched Cohen's show with him as guest. I thought he was way cuter as himself than in either his White Lotus or Euphoria roles. He wouldn't rule out a return in season 2 of Euphoria, no mention for White Lotus.

Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat, and Sam Levinson supposedly got into a huge argument while filming season 2 because she’s hating the direction he is going with her character this season, and because of it he cut down her role significantly. She didn’t even show up to the season 2 premiere. I assume she will be gone in season 3.
The actor who plays McKay left because he was taking issue with the writing for his character also.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | January 21, 2022 11:43 PM |
The actor who played McKay himself replaced an actor (Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley) who was originally hired to play that role. THAT actor quit before the pilot was finished. So if now Algee Smith is quitting... it makes you start to wonder.
by Anonymous | reply 365 | January 22, 2022 12:36 AM |
This is a show that should use a diverse group of writers. Some shows would benefit from that, and this is that type of show that would.
I heard a few of the cast have taken issue with season 2 while filming, including Sydney Sweeney who doesn’t understand why she’s now naked in every single episode. Some feel it’s getting too pornographic, and supposedly some are taking issue with Jacob’s huge bump in screen time and that he’s one of the few who Levinson will listen to, while fucking up the other characters minus Rue, of course because Zendaya is his star and now a producer.
Supposedly on the first season the actors had some input in building their characters but this time they don’t minus Jacob and Zendaya, and they’re not taking issue with Z because she’s the star (and a star) but they are with Jacob getting special treatment, and supposedly a Nate redemption arc is underway because of Jacob.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | January 22, 2022 4:28 AM |
Sydney's naked because she has to pull the weight for Zendaya not getting naked and the world is not ready to see an actress like Hunter naked. Also, I think they are being cautious with Hunter’s nudity as anything they do will come off as exploitive no matter what. Jacob is their male lead, I still don’t understand why he did not get his stand alone episode during hiatus. There must be a very big story about that, which I hope it comes out at some point. He is really the only strong male lead and as such that is the show’s fault that it is much more gender unbalanced from the start. Considering McCay is away at college, Lukas’s character wasn’t in high school and Fez was to be killed off, they’ve done a shitty job of developing male characters. Nate’s brother should have been younger, not older, and emerging as an even wilder version of him, but they blew that chance.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | January 22, 2022 8:26 AM |
I forgot Nate even had a brother!
The nudity thing is so weird to me. I was recently watching am episode of Emily in Paris, and in one scene at a hammam, Lilly Collins (the star) was the only one not showing her breasts. So far in Euphoria, Zendaya, an EP, goes through great lengths not to show her tits.
If finding excuses to get women naked isn't exploitative, the lead actresses should be down with the cause. But they know exactly what's going on---as they act like Times Up acolytes.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | January 22, 2022 9:34 AM |
Didn't Hunter expose her breast(s), as it were, in season 1? I thought it was early on and meant to establish for anyone who was still in doubt as to her nature. The show seems to be egalitarian wrt male and female nudity. But Sweeney might have a valid complaint, you don't see Maude Apatow baring all. yet.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | January 22, 2022 10:23 AM |
The show is a bit gratuitous in its nudity, particularly when these are supposed to be underage high schoolers. It’d make more sense if they were at least in college. The storylines would maybe be a bit more appropriate too. I really liked the first season, but what I’m starting to feel is that it’s a bunch of backstories that aren’t really moving forward.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | January 22, 2022 11:38 AM |
R379 that’s a huge complaint about the show from not only parents, but on TikTok many young people feel having them be minors vs college students romanticizes what is happening on the show and is promoting child porn.
The lead always get a lot of say when they’re a big star. Zendaya doesn’t do nudity because she is Zendaya and doesn’t have to. It was placed in her contract. Same with Lily Collins or SJP. In SATC she’s the only one who never did nudity. Whether you like it or not, it’s common.
Jacob isn’t the male lead. The show only has one lead, and that’s Zendaya. Every other character is supporting.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | January 22, 2022 12:01 PM |
Jacob wasn't a star when he got the part in Euphoria. He was just the pretty guy from The Kissing Booth.
I think it's unfortunate when stars do the whole "I don't do nudity!". They are the ones who could actually make sure it remains appropriate for the scene without becoming exploitive (oh look! Big star gets naked, now you really must watch this!).
by Anonymous | reply 372 | January 22, 2022 12:12 PM |
I don’t get the complaint from someone upthread that Nate’s brother should have been younger. Nate being the younger brother seems way more appropriate based on his personality. His brother was never meant to be a character on the show. You see him because the show gives each character a backstory.
Also, in the family photos you see they have a 3rd child who is younger than Nate. The show has yet to mention what happened to the 3rd boy but I think we will find out one day. Nate is the middle child. Many TikTokers have theories that the third kid is dead (and that psycho Nate killed him and the parents covered for Nate) or that Ashtray is the kid and the mother is head of the drug cartel now.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | January 22, 2022 12:12 PM |
R372 it’s common for those shows to cast mostly unknowns around their lead, unless they decide to make everyone an unknown. But in this case, this show was a vehicle for Zendaya.
by Anonymous | reply 374 | January 22, 2022 12:15 PM |
Hmmmm I didn’t notice the 3rd brother. Nice find. What happened to the 3rd brother? I’m certain that will be a story that unfolds eventually, or at least I hope that they don’t just ignore it forever.
by Anonymous | reply 375 | January 22, 2022 7:36 PM |
The issue with this show is that Sam Levinson is the shows ONLY writer. In ways the show benefits from that but in others it doesn’t.
During the first season he began finding the actors to play those characters as he wrote and let them have a bit of influence over some storylines but now he is only listening to Z and supposedly his little pet Jacob and everyone else is getting mad because they feel he’s fucking up the vibe and their characters and more worried with shock value than story telling for season 2.
by Anonymous | reply 377 | January 22, 2022 8:11 PM |
Well they are actors, not writers, their job is to perform what is written for them r377 and they should be very thankful for this job. Allowing actors to dictate what happens to their character is rarely a good idea.
by Anonymous | reply 378 | January 22, 2022 9:06 PM |
R378 sweetie, maybe that’s why season 2 is seen as not as good as the first so far and just an exploitative show relying on shock value. Season 1 most found interesting and captivating. The actors are allowed to take issue with the writing for their characters.
by Anonymous | reply 379 | January 22, 2022 9:09 PM |
...it's been two episodes? I thought the premiere was really good, though ep 2 wasn't as good. So far I am not seeing any drop in quality from Season 1 which wasn't perfect either. We will see.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | January 22, 2022 9:18 PM |
I think the biggest issue is the amount of sex and nudity the show has in general, but it feels even more aggressive this season. This is where the show is being criticized.
The Kat character DOES feel different this season.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | January 22, 2022 9:25 PM |
Most of the casts main issue with season 2 is how dark things get. Levinson said this season gets very dark as it plays out and many of the actors don’t like how dark things get for their characters and the stories. They feel he should have kept things like season 1, dark with a small mix of humor.
However, while filming an episode him and the actress who plays Kat got into a heated argument about her character and she walked off set. He then cut a bunch of her lines and had to quickly change some things and cute her role down for the rest of the season, didn’t put her in the main trailer and she didn’t even show up for the premiere. Who knows if this will be a Dianna Agron/Ryan Murphy situation where he now fucks her over
by Anonymous | reply 382 | January 22, 2022 9:37 PM |
Darren Criss said the reason him and Murphy didn't have drama is Darren never complained about his storyline, he got his scripts and did his job.
Walking off set and refusing to finish filming the scene seems over overdramatic and unprofessional to me. Don't know the context but does she expect to get opportunities if she has a reputation for being difficult to work with.

I thought that too, but look at Normal People and how much graphic sex/nudity that had. Pus, when you eliminate the graphic nudity & drug use, it's kind of your average school about high schoolers/young adults. Pretty girls with low self-esteem, fat girls finding to find an identity, cool jock with all kinds of problems, nerd with a heart of gold - all that. And of course the novelty of trans character as the pixie dream girl character
Not sure about the Kat character, but being an unknown actress challenging a director on hit HBO show seems a bit...presumptuous. No one on that show is any great thespian, so they better keep the paychecks rolling while they can. Ask the cast of Glee about how their careers are going these days.

The idea that there was no serious reckoning for Nate's Dad in season 1 is sort of remarkable for "television". I mean he's having sex with minors right - it's not just a matter of prostitution. In the world of serial dramas that's way worse than getting away with murder. Much unfinished business for season 2.

I don’t like this season at all. Sam Levinson - rich Hollywood brat and son of Barry Levinson - really seems to get off on showing these drug dealers and drug use and showing all these high schoolers fucking with Sydney Sweeney’s boobs constantly out. There’s a scene in season 1 where Nate has a meltdown and tries to fight his father, and that scene absolutely moved me. Nate and his father have such a tumultuous relationship, and seem to resent one another as well as have hatred for one another. You can tell Nate blames his father and him being exposed to so much from a young age for how fucked up and confused he is in the head, and Cal has a hatred for his son but I’m not 100% sure why yet, but you can tell he also fears him a bit.
Both actors knocked it out of the park in this scene but Elordi was tremendous, and I found it heartbreaking. Don’t get me wrong, Nate is evil and I wanna see him get stabbed, but this scene was heartbreaking to me. His reaction felt so real and sincere. And sad.

R408 I don’t get that impression at all. There’s a lot of deep rooted trauma there and anger. I don’t think Nate wants his father at all, and he doesn’t seem into men as much as the tranny, who looks like a chick but has a Dick.
Cal knows he created a monster.
Nate really lost it after seeing his own reflection being held down. I feel seeing himself be so helpless with no control really made him lose it.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | January 23, 2022 11:36 PM |
There’s so much more to it all. We are forgetting that before Nate’s meltdown he couldn’t get hard while trying to fuck Maddie, which led to her asking if he maybe is bi or gay. He was already upset he couldn’t get hard but that made him even more angry, grabbing her by her face. He goes into the bathroom, she takes the disc she sees and tries sneaking out quietly when Cal comes out of his room to tell her that Nate and her need to end things, they’re no good for one another and are wasting each other’s time. She leaves, Cal goes into Nate’s room to tell him what he did, and Nate tries to fight him. Not because of what he said, but because Nate blames his father for him being such a mess when it comes to his sexuality etc. Nate not being able to get it hard for Maddie is what set him off with Cal.

I really loved the first season but watching episode 1 of season 2 - I was like why the fuck did I like this show? As soon as Zendaya’s narration started about how the drug dealer’s grandma was a real badass motherfucker…. Ugh. And the boobs. I’m surprised Sydney Sweeney is cool with this level of nudity. She’s a solid actress and is up-and-coming and this feels like Cinemax level titty shit. At one point Elordi was sucking on her nipple. And why? We know her character is hot and slutty. We don’t need to see her riding him with her tits out so much.
Granted this is coming from a gay man lol. I’m sure the straight audience loves the nudity.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | January 24, 2022 12:52 AM |
Sydney Sweeney says she didnt mind the nudity at all, but now she is upset that is all people want to talk about. It's weird, she got naked in Season 1 too but people can't seem to get past it in this season. I guess because it happened in two episodes in a row.

R414 we saw her tits about 3 times total throughout all of season 1. We’ve seen about that much already in 2 episodes for season 2.
It’s not that her tits are out, it’s that they’re always out now. It feels exploitative, just like the ridiculous amounts of cock shots, and I’m gay. It feels like Levison is trying to be shocking and it’s coming off bad now.
R413 I just rewatched season 1 and it’s terrific. I get why I liked it. I didn’t like the first 20-30 minutes of episode 1 of season 2 but once they get to the party I didn’t mind it.

Season 2 isn’t bad, it’s just missing that magic season 1 had. I guess that’s something hard to capture more than once. Season 1 felt unique and was incredibly atmospheric and moody and colorful, with high quality artistic expression.
Season 2 feels pornographic almost. It doesn’t have that ambience and color scheme and art that the first one had. This one is relying on shock value. It’s taking everything that surprised people in season 1 (like showing cock etc) and doing it 10x as much. The issue is when you do that it is no longer shocking or even a talking point. It becomes boring and gratuitous.

I dunno, I loved the opening sequence... with Cal and Derrick and the latent homosexuality and the wrestling and locker rooms and sexual explorations and stuff. And the music. The gay bar. The crushing on a best friend thing. It's kind of relatable. Fucked up, but relatable. And nice to see they didn't shy away from showing the naked guys every bit as much as the naked girls. And the two guys they got to play them were fucking HOT.

At first I was confused on the Cal flashback because there is no way Cal is meant to be 18 years older than Nate, but I forgot there is an older brother. Many closeted gay boys in high school were in love with their friends, but it rarely works out so you actually get to sleep with them. The Cal flashback was way too short.
No way does Rue's plan not blow up in her face. It will probably end with Fez having to step in and save her, which could lead to his death.
The fourth wall-breaking for Lexi's play was well done, as was the callback to the dick pic slideshow from season one.
Storm Reid, who plays Rue's sister, Gia, has noticeably aged in between seasons. She almost looks older than Zendaya.
This season does seem to be lacking the same spark that season one had. It isn't bad so far. But none of the plot threads established seem like they won't get really dark.

The Cal backstory sequence was so well done in terms of visuals and tone. It really captured the early 90s without leaning on too many cheesy 90s tropes. It was like a gay male version of Aerosmith’s ‘Crazy’ video with Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler. A real vibrant and sexy rush. The music was perfect too. This show just really knows how to convey a mood and a vibe. I’m loving season 2 as much as season 1.

R441 I second you. Are we supposed to believe she grew up into Paula Marshall? Also, interesting how, thus far, Marshall hasn't been given much to do. She had a lot of major roles dating back 10/20 years ago including Sienfeld, Californication, she was all over the place.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | January 24, 2022 9:01 AM |
Dear Lord. Each main character gets a backstory. And it’s always around 10 minutes. It’s not that serious. Suddenly demanding it be longer because it’s a gay relationship now is ridiculous.
Acting like you’ve never seen a gay love story. It’s not the 90s. It’s 2022.
by Anonymous | reply 446 | January 24, 2022 9:04 AM |
The actress who plays Kat looks like she gained weight. Either that or they put her in a very unfortunate outfit for the dinner scene. I also don't see the character ever agreeing to meet his parents.
Zendaya as Rue is quickly becoming tiresome. Shooting for a second Emmy is going to ruin this character. Careful not to wander into Billy Porter territory.

R448 I took it that he had a raging boner from being beside Derek and it would have been obvious to his Dad what was going on. Think Timmy in CMBYN when Oliver comes and gets him for the swim.

Episode 3 gave me my first genuine laugh in an episode of Euphoria: The moment Nate finally acknowledges Cassie, and she ends up walking alongside Maddie...revealing the 2 are dressed and styled the exact same way.
As usual, Zendaya hamming it up was the lowlight of the episode. Maybe it's because she didn't have a normal teenage experience, but she acts like a parody of a high-schooler. Even Jacob Elordi, an Australian is more authentic...
Meanwhile the Young Cal, Lexi, and Cassie scenes were the best. As much as I hate nepotism, Maude Apatow has grown on me.

The Cal backstory was hot. I needed more.
I can’t keep watching Nate have sex. He’s an animal and it is painful how hot he is.
Rue, as much as I loved her in season one, is getting tiresome. Very tiresome. Zendaya is not beautiful. She’s not ugly, though. I am not enjoying Jules like I did season one. The show has lost its spark a tad. I think Ashtray will die. He is growing too fast. I’m over the fat girl right now. I really like Fez and Ashtray. Get rid of that boring bitch with them. She’ll fuck Ashtray.

I thought it was interesting when Fez told Cal that he and Nate are both in love with Jules. The juxtaposition of Jules and Cassie in the fantasy marriage scene he had - was he seeing something in Cassie that reminded him of Jules?
by Anonymous | reply 453 | January 24, 2022 11:44 AM |
Ummmm Zendaya is barely hamming it up. And she didn’t ham it up in season 1. She’s playing a teenage girl addicted to hardcore drugs. Not really your average teen.
Nate is a psychopath and sociopath. I’m sick of people on here speaking of him like he’s normal.

Nate wants Jules and is trying to project his feelings for her onto Cassie, who he also feels has some of the same qualities Jules has.
Jules is real name, for the person who said it’s a stupid name.
Cal didn’t wanna get out of bed in front of his dad because he’s secretly gay in the 90s and had an erection. He didn’t want his father to find out.
by Anonymous | reply 456 | January 24, 2022 12:17 PM |
I think we are supposed to find Rue tiresome. The show doesn’t try to make us like her. One thing the show gets right is making us feel how many people dealing with addicts feel, frustrated, annoyed, tired of the persons shit, etc.
Also, Zendaya is an attractive girl. Again, she’s playing a DRUG ADDICT and they make her look as such. It’s like you’re not watching the show and seeing her shoot heroine and shit…
by Anonymous | reply 457 | January 24, 2022 12:19 PM |
I agree that the show doesn’t have the same spark the first one did, but let’s be honest, how many shows that start off very strong and feel “special” are able to keep that feeling and recreate that same magic a second time? Even shows that have a good second season, the show never feels “as good” as that glorious first season.
That’s one positive about having a successful show where the quality isn’t so high, it’s easy to maintain that same product or make it better. It’s hard to do that when the show starts off so great. Everything gelled beautifully in season 1.
On top of that, it doesn’t help that there was 3 years in between filming each season.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | January 24, 2022 12:27 PM |
R406 that scene IS sad. Nate is truly a lost cause and there is no fixing that at this point.
R458 you’re right, and there are many shows one can use as an example of having an amazing first season and even if the next seasons were good, they never had that same spark or charm or magic the first one did. This Is Us comes to mind as a recent one. I found season 2 good but that first season felt special.

[Quote]Cal didn’t wanna get out of bed in front of his dad because he’s secretly gay in the 90s and had an erection. He didn’t want his father to find out.
I'd say his father definitely knew Cal was into his friend and had a boner. The way he asked him to get up right away, he clearly knew the score.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | January 24, 2022 12:45 PM |
For those talking about the spark, the show runner decided to abandon some of the visuals, including things like glitter and colors, used in S1. He said he wanted a new grounded visual which is why they went with film. Over on the Euphoria reddit pages, the fans (myself included) were concerned with the loss of the ascetics; think of the Funhouse Carnival episode from S1 as a perfect example. Sam, wanted a new direction which is why they are shooting on film and color wise appear to be acting like it's a mid-90s show.
Honestly, I sort of life that they are changing things up. I loved S1 with the glitter and blue undertones, but it's been 2 years so a change isn't that bad. The show feels like it's settling into a comfortable HBO groove and grittiness.
The one things I will say about S2, is that we haven't had a moment to breath, beyond Lexi's movie fantasy. That was fun and light hearted. Everything has been so so dark or just go-go-go. No complaints on my end, but all the actors keep saying how dark things get, so I'm preparing for the worst. I think i know what's being setup but I'm not going to play the spoilers game.

by Anonymous | reply 463 | January 24, 2022 2:36 PM |
Cal backstory. I had an evening to think it over. While I loved it, I'm also a tad disappointed and hope they dive more into his past. That backstory left a lot to be desired.
Cal and his wife didn't grow up in CA. The montage says his best friend was going to school out west. So how or why did they end up in California. Was he chasing after his friend and having a secrete affair?
Did Cal even go to Duke? Sucks to give up such a good school for some high school pussy.
Why wasn't an abortion mentioned?
Also, I loved both hot actors, but did anyone else have an issue telling young cal apart from his friend in some scenes. I was like, who is who again?
by Anonymous | reply 464 | January 24, 2022 2:37 PM |
r463 haha, no, she's just gasping at straws by trying out various styles to see what gets Nate's attention. At that stage, she went for a big hair Texas gal, or hilariously being confused with auditioning for Oklahoma! That was sending me.
Maddy literally has the best comebacks or lines. She's the funniest character on this show.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | January 24, 2022 2:40 PM |
The young Cal and boyfriend story line was the best part of the show. I'd like to see a reunion now that they're adults.
by Anonymous | reply 466 | January 24, 2022 2:43 PM |
R464 Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering why a California guy would go to Duke. But if Derek went out west, does that mean the draw for Cal to come west was him? This does upend some of my backstory for Cal, I assumed the building business was handed down through the family, even him ending up in it was because he knocked up his girlfriend and had to reluctantly join the family business instead of going to college. Also, this confuses Cal’s intense commitment to football in this town if he didn’t grow up there playing sports for that high school? Even the chili bake-off seemed more like a long family tradition that would predate their arrival in town. Maybe it’s just all part of the facade he’s built as a kind of pillar of the community, despite really being in the deep, dirty, perverse underside of it.
by Anonymous | reply 467 | January 24, 2022 2:47 PM |
Omg all the backstories leave a lot to be desired. You are fixated on Cal’s because it’s a “gay” one but he isn’t getting special treatment over the shows main cast, the young people. Be thankful they decided to give him a backstory.
by Anonymous | reply 468 | January 24, 2022 2:50 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 470 | January 24, 2022 3:05 PM |
Maybe there's a sense of urgency because they want to cover a lot of ground in season 2 to make up for the unexpected hiatus between the first and second seasons and ensure they get to tell some of the stories they want to tell in case production gets halted and delayed again.
Cal wasn't the only one with an erection in that scene. Derek had one as well the way he sort of half hunched his way out of the room with his bag covering his crotch.

I was thinking the same r464 and r467.
Given the "outwest" comment we know Cal didn't grow up in California, so did he try to follow Derek to California? I mean it doesn't seem to be an accident they told us that is where Derek was going to college. Adds another layer of tragedy if Cal tried in vain to follow him.
by Anonymous | reply 473 | January 24, 2022 3:21 PM |
R472 agreed. Any man can relate to getting an erection at the worst times while young.
And to the person upthread, I think you can tell his father had a suspicion his son was attracted to Derek but he had no confirmation. That’s the case with many parents.

The scene where the dad told Cal to get up off the bed made me laugh. I remember having to tuck my dick in the waistband of my underwear in high school, just because I'd suddenly get erections in class! I immediately understood the purpose of that scene.
by Anonymous | reply 479 | January 24, 2022 5:11 PM |
I know r477, their scenes were so obviously filmed in California but based on dialogue we are supposed to pretend it wasn't. No one in California would say they are going to school "out west". Lol, they going to Hawaii?
by Anonymous | reply 480 | January 24, 2022 5:12 PM |
Yeah, the scenes were definitely filmed in and looked like California (I think some of the suburban scenes were filmed in the San Fernando Valley and possibly Encino specifically). Unless it's supposed to take place somewhere inland in the state and they mean Derek went somewhere "out West" as in closer to the ocean? It was weird that they were trying to pass it off as if they weren't already in California.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | January 24, 2022 5:12 PM |
r467 he could have been playing football and wrestling but excelled at wrestling. I think there are holes in the story, unless out west meant they lived in East CA, but I still don't think a single CA resident would call moving to the coast, out west since the entire state is considered the west. I'm going to assume Cal and his wife are from Ohio. But, the flashback spent too much time building up the obvious, and not exploring what happened next. I checked IMBD, the younger Cal and friend are only in 1 episode so no more flashbacks.
Still, a nice start and sexy nudity, but Sam (writer/show-runner) didn't connect the dots from repressed bisexual Cal and recording guys via rough sex Cal.
I agree, why didn't he push Nate to wrestle?
by Anonymous | reply 482 | January 24, 2022 5:19 PM |

Finally some gay content. The show would have been better if it had a regular gay character, one who is normal. Not like Cal, a villain. But I did enjoy the few gay scenes we did get. They were very cute. It's obvious Cal is bisexual while his boyfriend is gay. When he said he didn't like eating pussy I was like... yup, definitely gay. He was also the one to take Cal to a gay bar in the first place. His girlfriend was probably just a beard, unlike Cal's.
by Anonymous | reply 491 | January 24, 2022 5:55 PM |
It's hard to imagine that young Cal would have turned into the more grizzled, yet still sexy older Cal (Eric Dane). It was an odd choice of an actor to play a young Eric Dane, but it kind of makes sense because he looks more like Nate (Jacob Elordi), so what they lost in terms of accurate resemblance to Eric Dane, they kind of made up for in explaining him to be Nate's father.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | January 24, 2022 5:55 PM |
Anyone else think that Nate only likes Cassie because she’s easy for him to control? We see throughout season 1 that Nate is a young man who MUST BE in full control at all times, and not just in control of situations but of people etc. too.
He can’t control Maddie, and I think that’s his biggest issue with her.
Add on that he seems to be projecting his feelings for Jules onto Cassie.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | January 24, 2022 5:55 PM |
r489 that still seems odd to me. Like someone in TX saying they are going to school out east or west (depending on their location) when a local would just say in Dallas, Houston, etc. Like in IL, downstate folks don't say, "Such and such is going to school up north." "Where?" "Oh, Chicago..." Like no, you'd just say the or upstate. A person would say you are going to school up north when they mean Tallahassee. The "out" part typically means out of a state in America, likely out of an entire region.
But, I'm gonna stop cause it's just a TV show, but they really flubbed some parts of a rather generic back story.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | January 24, 2022 5:58 PM |
R492 but some people do look different and unrecognizable as they get older.
However, I disagree about him not looking like Eric Dane. They have similar eyes. That’s where I saw a resemblance.
As for body hair, I was pretty smooth still in HS (no chest hair) but now I have a lot in my 30s.
by Anonymous | reply 495 | January 24, 2022 5:58 PM |
I was thinking how much better this show would be if one of the main characters was a gay guy instead of a trans. I mean... that new guy is at least bi, but we won't see any of his bi (as in gay) side, because he will hook up with the trans person. It's obvious already.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | January 24, 2022 6:00 PM |
r495 they actor had body hair as we could see in the final scene before he cries. Rule number 1, never fuck a religious girl unwilling to even consider an abortion.
by Anonymous | reply 497 | January 24, 2022 6:00 PM |
I think part of why Cal’s backstory seemed “better” than the others is because he’s a middle aged man in modern day and his backstory had him As a teen. The teens are teens in modern day so their backstories are about them as kids. I think that’s why his was more interesting, outside of the gay thing.
His backstory was also more about him because he was older already vs the kids where we learn a lot about their families too because they were just kids.
by Anonymous | reply 498 | January 24, 2022 6:01 PM |
R497 I don’t think she needs to be religious to not want an abortion in the 90s. I think most people, even many liberals then, looked down upon it.
by Anonymous | reply 499 | January 24, 2022 6:02 PM |
Please, abortion is actually more common for white upper middle class suburbanites in these situations than for the poor white teen mothers. These kids look like middle to upper middle class kids. Statistically, she would also be on the college track which is why an abortion would have been more likely, unless she was religious. It was the 90s not the 1950s.

The backstory scenes weren't just remarkable because they were gay (and frankly, showed a very nearly universal experience for a lot of gay high school guys of the time), but because it was so well done. Some brilliant story-telling there, the visuals, the style, the MUSIC... it was great. The quality was stand-out in every way.
by Anonymous | reply 502 | January 24, 2022 6:10 PM |
I don’t like the way the McKay character is treated by Mr. Levinson. In season 1 he finds out Cassie is pregnant and wants her to get an abortion. That’s episode 6. We don’t see him again until the season 2 premiere. He wasn’t even in the finale.
And he was only in the premiere briefly. No wonder the actor supposedly quit.

The mother was literally a younger version of Maddy. Cal was smart, hot, popular, and going places. She got her claws into him and got pregnant. I think the baby was a mistake, but I don't think she much minded. He threw away Duke for her and their kid. Despite that hardship, they are worth millions and he owns a successful construction company.
One glaring difference is that he was so bright and happy. The Cal we meet as an adult is so stilted as if he's living through long-term depression.

I don't understand why they sat in their kitchen listening to their son fuck upstairs. That is very weird. Same thing happened in And Just Like That. Is this a new parting phenomenon to allow sons to just fuck and fuck and fuck while parents are home? What happened to sneaking around and trying to avoid such issues?
by Anonymous | reply 520 | January 24, 2022 10:44 PM |
R520 I said the same thing. Why is this becoming a thing on these shows? No. Just no.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | January 24, 2022 10:46 PM |
The idea that parents could be okay with their kid and their significant other having sex doesn't seem so crazy to me. God knows I would never have kids but I don't think I would freak out about my 17 year old wanting to have their boyfriend/girlfriend sleep over.
by Anonymous | reply 522 | January 24, 2022 10:49 PM |
R522 good for you. I know i wouldn’t allow it.
by Anonymous | reply 523 | January 24, 2022 10:50 PM |
r522 a sleepover is fine, in some homes. Loud grunting, as if they are paying the mortgage & alone, is wrong. Just like parents tend to avoid explosive sounding sex when the kids are home out of respect (and to avoid trauma).
When 20 year olds bring home their significant others. They may share a room, but no one is having loud sex at the parent's house. Certainly not high schoolers. At least not in my day, I'm only 30, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | January 24, 2022 10:53 PM |
They are going to be off at college doing god knows in a year r523. You can't helicopter parent forever.
And true, there is a difference between sleeping over and having loud sex r524. In real life most people would be mortified of their parents hearing them have sex. Though honestly I think Nate wants to have his father hear him be a "real man" and fuck a girl. Prove that he is not like him.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | January 24, 2022 11:01 PM |
Nate probably does it on purpose so his dad can hear him. He’s so fucked in the head.
by Anonymous | reply 526 | January 24, 2022 11:05 PM |
I’m seeing a lot of people on social media complain how Kat’s dinner scene in episode 3 literally was planted in the middle of the episode out of nowhere with no follow up scene or anything, making it feel awkward. That is because the asshole show runner cut her other scenes due to them bumping heads and her storming off set.
by Anonymous | reply 527 | January 24, 2022 11:06 PM |
R527 I think her relationship with her boyfriend will soon be over. He didn't exactly look pleased.
by Anonymous | reply 528 | January 24, 2022 11:23 PM |
Ethan and Lexi had Googly eyes this episode so I think they will become a thing.
PS Barbie Ferreira was hot before she became fat. Even if she still has a pretty face.
by Anonymous | reply 529 | January 24, 2022 11:27 PM |
Ash is like a junkyard dog! I wonder if Cal had a concussion.
by Anonymous | reply 530 | January 24, 2022 11:30 PM |
Reading this Eric Dane interview can't help but compare to his answer to Barbie apparently fighting on set with Sam about the writing.
[Quote]Is there anything about Cal that you push back on?
[Quote]I don't push back on anything. It's not my job to push back on anything. I'm there to protect the character, but at the same time, like I said, I trust Sam so much. Whatever he's wanting to do with this character I'm also along for the ride, and the challenges are actually good. Put as many obstacles as you want in front of me. It's just an opportunity for growth
by Anonymous | reply 531 | January 24, 2022 11:32 PM |
Supposedly part of Barbie’s issue is that he won’t let her have any input when it comes to her character this season but he did allow Jacob and Sydney Sweeney to give ideas etc. for their characters. This really set her off.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | January 24, 2022 11:34 PM |
[quote]the younger Cal and friend are only in 1 episode so no more flashbacks.
I'd never watched the show before tonight, and it opened on Cal and Derek, so I assumed that was THE story, not just an existing character's backstory. I made the assumption that it was Derek calling Cal at the end, telling him he was HIV+. But no.
Not gonna continue watching.
by Anonymous | reply 533 | January 25, 2022 3:34 AM |
r533 you will not be missed. Bye!
by Anonymous | reply 534 | January 25, 2022 3:49 AM |
My new theory is that every single main character is going to die. Some by suicide (Kat, Ethan, Cassie, Cal), some by overdosing (Gia, Elliott), some through random acts of violence (Rue, Lexi), and some through targeted acts of violence (Nate, Fez, Jules, Maddie, Ashtray).
This last episode might be my favorite of the entire series. The Cal flashback was fascinating, but my MVP was Cassie. Her scenes were simultaneously tragic yet hilarious. Loved the beauty routine montage.
by Anonymous | reply 535 | January 25, 2022 5:27 AM |
My sister hates Cassie for some reason lol
by Anonymous | reply 536 | January 25, 2022 8:43 AM |
R533 why would you start a series on episode 3 of the 2nd season? This isn’t a show like Law and Order. You need to have watched from the beginning to know their characters and stories, as it’s a character driven series more so than a plot driven one.
I hate idiots like you.
by Anonymous | reply 537 | January 25, 2022 8:45 AM |
[quote] why would you start a series on episode 3 of the 2nd season?
Because someone posted that scene in his IG feed yesterday. I'd never watched the show before, but if it was going to have guys like this, in a storyline like this, maybe I would. But sadly, it was a one-and-done for "Derek," whom I liked in particular.
Why would I not watch? My mistake, obviously, was commenting on it, you wretched, stinking cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | January 25, 2022 2:15 PM |
I know people who have never watched the show. But those people have still heard of the show and know it stars Zendaya. Idk anyone who would think it’s a show about a gay love story…
by Anonymous | reply 539 | January 25, 2022 2:17 PM |
Zendaya is not the cultural touchstone for me she apparently is for you. The only thing I knew about it was that it stars that delicious-looking Jacob Elordi, about whom much ink, and semen, have flowed.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | January 25, 2022 2:22 PM |
R540 why are you lying? Lmao her face is literally the poster for both seasons. The cover art. Just stop
by Anonymous | reply 541 | January 25, 2022 2:27 PM |
I do wonder how many actors were scared away because young Cal and Derek roles required full frontal nudity r515.
I know it has detractors, but personally I love Levinson doesn't try to shy away from nudity, not even (just) for pervy reasons but it is refreshing to see it treated like no big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | January 25, 2022 2:27 PM |
There’s a big difference between not shying away from nudity and showing it non stop for no reason
by Anonymous | reply 543 | January 25, 2022 2:29 PM |
R541 Why do you care so much about what I knew and when I knew it? You're weird. And pathetic.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | January 25, 2022 2:29 PM |
r543, which do you think Euphoria is doing, "not shying away" or "showing it non-stop"?
by Anonymous | reply 545 | January 25, 2022 2:46 PM |
R545 like most viewers, I feel it’s the latter. The nudity this season is gratuitous.
R544 because you’re … LYING
by Anonymous | reply 546 | January 25, 2022 3:09 PM |
I'm not R543, R545, but I think the answer is BOTH.
I'm sure there's a purpose and I'm still trying to construct my own theory. Like E3, where the drug dealer's husband just walked in stark naked, when the show began with a 10-min montage featuring naked men...
Maybe the male nudity should be viewed in the context of Euphoria being some celebration of neo-feminism. The women are in control, smart, ambitious, fearless, blah, blah, blah, the men are weak, cruel, cowardly...and the exploited.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | January 25, 2022 3:17 PM |
Jacob Elordi said almost all the penises on the show aren’t real.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | January 25, 2022 8:15 PM |
There are a lot of prosthetic penises on this show, including the one Eric Dane wore which is the story Elordi was talking about. Generally it's not that hard to figure out what is real and what is fake. Obviously if it is an erect penis on an actor, it's fake.
by Anonymous | reply 549 | January 25, 2022 8:28 PM |
I remember the showrunner saying the locker room scene in season 1 was all prosthetics
by Anonymous | reply 550 | January 25, 2022 8:30 PM |
Angus Cloud isn’t allowed to watch the entire season (the rest of the cast get to see it all ahead of time) so he has to watch in real time with the rest of us.
Turns out it’s because he would say too much during season 1 and give away spoilers, so now he has to watch like the rest of us to know all that is happening outside of his scenes 😂
by Anonymous | reply 551 | January 25, 2022 8:36 PM |
Look, when you have you even have young people saying tone down the amount of nudity you know it’s too much. Tons of them all over TT are saying it’s getting a bit much now. And I agree with this girl. I’m fine with nudity but we don’t need it EVERY episode.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | January 25, 2022 9:38 PM |
I didn't realize Young Cal and Derek were both wearing wigs. Apparently the designer called them the Damon and Pitt wigs.
Those weren't California tags. They were some generic plate that said "Drive Safely."
Young Cal and Derek may not be back, but IMDB doesn't have all the info on upcoming episodes, including full cast lists or even episode titles.

R509
[quote]Noticed that showed Cal alone in bed, not with Derek.
Why would Cal and Derek EVER be in bed together at Cal's place when his dad clearly has a propensity for barging in unannounced?
by Anonymous | reply 555 | January 26, 2022 9:10 AM |
R555 his point is that they kissed. Nothing more. They never had sex
by Anonymous | reply 556 | January 26, 2022 9:15 AM |
^ We have no way of knowing that.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | January 26, 2022 9:18 AM |
It’s all pretty easy to figure out. This show wouldn’t suddenly shy away from showing us…
by Anonymous | reply 558 | January 26, 2022 9:30 AM |
r557 that bar had a motel attached. You don't think that's where Cal got his taste for naughty motel sex from? Those two did something that night.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | January 26, 2022 5:35 PM |
r551 Angus seems like a nice little Irish immigrant, but he also comes off as dumb as a box of rocks. I'm sure he is not dumb since he was discovered working some random job and was offered the spot on Euphoria, but it feels like there is not much going on in his pretty head during interviews.
He needs some media training cause it's painful.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | January 26, 2022 5:37 PM |
R560 doubt it. The show would have let us know.
by Anonymous | reply 562 | January 26, 2022 5:38 PM |
They did let us know after they showed us with the bedroom scene. Thinking we'd see his friend in there with him.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | January 26, 2022 5:42 PM |
yeah, no.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | January 26, 2022 5:43 PM |
R563 no. I think they just kissed and had a deep, intimate moment. I don’t think it went straight to fucking.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | January 26, 2022 5:45 PM |
Is "young Cal" supposed to be a younger version of Eric Dane's character Cal Jacobs?
Is there not an older version of the Derek character.
What are the odds we're going to see Eric Dane having the homosex on screen? He's a nozzle, but he is still dancing on the line of hot.
Could someone summarize BRIEFLY why they included a flashback to a younger version which showed him having essentially a romance with another dude? Also, does it imply based on stuff happening in the show that he's trying to beat the gay out of his son DL minor fav Jacob Elordi? I can't be bothered to catch up on the first season.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | January 26, 2022 5:49 PM |

If he had watched the first season he'd know that we have seen Cal "having the homosex on screen."

I am only on episode 4. Kat is my least favorite character and Zendaya is not naturally beautiful without hair and makeup. The camera work does show a lot of flaws though, you can see oily sking and acne on some of the actresses.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | March 2, 2022 10:18 PM |
I agree Kat is miserable and annoying. And her face is fug if they want her to become attractive couldn’t they have found a pretty fat girl at least?
by Anonymous | reply 573 | March 2, 2022 11:37 PM |
Cal is supposed to be 43. That is a rough 43.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | March 3, 2022 3:56 AM |
I don't mind the sex and drama but it's the drug stuff that bores me. Rue is zzzzzzzzz

Too much time spent on Rue but Zendaya is now one of the producers and wants that Emmy.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | March 3, 2022 5:10 AM |
She’s the star of the show, stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | March 3, 2022 5:13 AM |
She has no charisma, let the others have bigger parts.

When the wife just went to bed when Cal was telling his family about sleeping with men and trans, I assume she has known.
by Anonymous | reply 580 | March 3, 2022 5:55 AM |
Who keeps posting that Jacob Elordi and Zenddaya had an affair. He’s gay and she is the most obvious lesbian in years.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | March 3, 2022 6:06 AM |
I think Kat is supposed to be miserable & annoying and I think there's an interesting angle in being a fat girl when there is so much pressure everywhere to conform to a certain standard, but the cam dominatrix thing just seems very..random. I get it that it's meant for her to find acceptance of her body that she can't find in real life, but it doesn't seem to be working since it's just made her an angry bitch rather than a person who accepts her flaws
by Anonymous | reply 582 | March 3, 2022 9:51 AM |
I think it's refreshing that Nate's mom and Cassie's mom are actresses we have seen before and that they have not had plastic surgery.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | March 3, 2022 10:10 AM |
I agree r583. Paula Marshall and Alanna Ubach have been kicking around for years. Nice to see them doing great work and landing roles on the hottest show on TV.
What was the point of Minka Kelly this season? Will she be back next season?
by Anonymous | reply 584 | March 3, 2022 10:26 AM |
r584 I thought maybe Minka Kelly would start kissing Maddy in the pool (I am just starting episode 7) and it looked like she had a camera in her dressing room so must be she has seen Maddy trying on her stuff?
I think she is very pretty, although it's kind of weird to think of her dating Trevor Noah.

Actually, since the last big teen drama was Friday Night Lights, I thought it was kind of a cool throwback. It's not a stretch to imagine Lyla as some relatively well off divorce trying to give a young woman advice about the perils of young love
