Is there gonna be something gay this time?

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2021 8:20 PM

This season looks more dark and intense than the first, which was already dark.

by Anonymousreply 2December 20, 2021 8:25 PM

Zendaya can't act, at all.

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2021 8:34 PM

So much cock.

I think two were pretty obviously fake.

The guy on the toilet though... hawt. Can't wait for the captures.

by Anonymousreply 4January 10, 2022 3:01 AM

45 minutes in and already 2 cocks.

by Anonymousreply 5January 10, 2022 3:26 AM

Three total by the end. The third one was the best.

by Anonymousreply 6January 10, 2022 3:58 AM

That was an intense season opener.

This show is so good.

by Anonymousreply 7January 10, 2022 4:12 AM

Why does this show need cock out so much?

by Anonymousreply 8January 10, 2022 4:17 AM

Obese tard Ewwdwin your “ omg Zzzzendaya is a force” shtick is getting old.

by Anonymousreply 9January 10, 2022 4:20 AM

Cocks are edgy like strobe lights, drugs, and shitting at parties.

by Anonymousreply 10January 10, 2022 4:23 AM

What year is it supposed to be? No kids I know listen to THAT MUCH old school rap. Maybe one song here and there, unless they're nerds. Is it 1996?

by Anonymousreply 11January 10, 2022 4:26 AM

Hmm, I must have missed a cock. I saw the drug dealer’s when they made him strip, and then the guy on the toilet. Where was the third? Sadly, I’m sure it wasn’t Jacob Elordi.

by Anonymousreply 12January 10, 2022 4:48 AM

Grandma shoots the dad at the strip club who is getting a bj.

by Anonymousreply 13January 10, 2022 4:50 AM

EPIC start

by Anonymousreply 14January 10, 2022 4:52 AM

This was a heavy episode. I was stressed throughout, especially during the drunken truck ride. Nate getting into McKay’s face was so sexy.

Nate getting a bottle to the face was a long-time coming but really hard to watch that beating.

What comes around goes around Fez.

by Anonymousreply 15January 10, 2022 4:52 AM

You know Nate wants McKay’s cum from that scene. Best part of the episode and nicely executed.

Those inflated lips on Grandma and the heroine hooker were just bizarre. WTF. The whole thing is a gross freakshow. Like Requiem for a Dream if it were directed by Tarantino. Entertainment for sociopaths with no redeeming valued except shock.

by Anonymousreply 16January 10, 2022 5:03 AM

That one was obviously a prosthetic as it was erect r13. Hopefully the others were real.

Why can't there be cock r8? There were also a lot of breasts, were is your complaint about that. The point is to push boundaries, highlight how other shows are afraid to have nudity that includes *gasp* a penis.

by Anonymousreply 17January 10, 2022 5:09 AM

Can't stand with that tranny.

by Anonymousreply 18January 10, 2022 5:11 AM

R12, how did you miss the first one? Right at the beginning when the woman catches her husband getting a blowjob at the strip club so she shoots him in the legs while his still erect cock is right there. It's not like it was just a brief glimpse, it was a lingering close-up.

by Anonymousreply 19January 10, 2022 5:11 AM

Jewels is my favorite character.

by Anonymousreply 20January 10, 2022 5:11 AM

Nate is just so fucking hot.

by Anonymousreply 21January 10, 2022 5:12 AM

Oh, that’s right. I guess I blocked out the fake old fat guy cock.

Who played the grandmother? She looked familiar.

by Anonymousreply 22January 10, 2022 5:12 AM

Wow, Jude Apatow's daughter cannot act for shit!

by Anonymousreply 23January 10, 2022 5:31 AM

They really should have just hired Ellen Barkin to play the grandmother, that actress was channeling her from Animal Kingdom anyways.

by Anonymousreply 24January 10, 2022 6:07 AM

For those who said the drug dealer grandma looked familiar, she was played by Kathrine Narducci. Narducci is best known for her role as Charmaine Bucco, Artie Bucco's wife, on The Sopranos.

The crispy looking fried blond hair threw me off, but I recognized her face and that VOICE!

Here she is with Quentin Tarantino.

Addiction stories are so tedious. There's enough natural conflict built in to the relationships to this show that we don't need Zombie Zendaya to drive action.

by Anonymousreply 26January 10, 2022 2:12 PM

Then you might be watching the wrong show r26. Rue being a drug addict is a central premise of the show from day one. The showrunner Sam Levinson was a drug addict, this is what he wants to write about.

by Anonymousreply 27January 10, 2022 2:31 PM

I just find enough other stuff to engage me, R27, but you're right, I have to live with the addiction story. I just don't know why anyone finds addiction stories compelling -- but I must be in the minority, because they're all over the place

by Anonymousreply 28January 10, 2022 2:43 PM

R28, did you watch the Euphoria "specials" from last year? The one with Rue in the coffee shop with her sponsor talking about addiction?

If you didn't find that episode compelling, I don't know what to tell you.

by Anonymousreply 29January 10, 2022 3:22 PM

That episode was compelling but not because of Zombdaya.

by Anonymousreply 30January 10, 2022 3:36 PM

I like both actors and I think they did a great job, R29 -- but honesty, I'd have preferred to watch them discuss the weather for an hour than this endless rehash of addiction issues. It's just the same thing, over and over again. I realize that this is probably a very accurate representation of addictive behavior ... which is why I've always run very far in the opposite direction when I've encountered an alcoholic or drug addict IRL.

But again, I agree that this my issue and the show will continue to hinge on Rue's struggle with substances, so I'm just going to shut up now.

by Anonymousreply 31January 10, 2022 3:37 PM

I'm curious if they are actually going to pair up her and Fez r23. Her character was pretty sidelined in Season 1, I guess that is one way to get her involved in the action.

She isn't the best I agree, nepotism hires, but she isn't terrible.

by Anonymousreply 32January 10, 2022 4:00 PM

Hunter Schafer has noticeably aged since the first season, and so have the other actors to varying degrees. But of the main cast, Hunter looked the most different.

I also thought it was kind of unrealistic a party with now high school kids would have so much '90s hip-hop playing.

by Anonymousreply 33January 10, 2022 4:52 PM

Yeah with the long two and a half (!) years between seasons aging of the cast was going to be a thing. Ashtray looks completely different but no time is supposed to have passed between season 1 and 2.

by Anonymousreply 34January 10, 2022 4:57 PM

I found the premiere underwhelming. The greatest challenge the show faces is not relying too much on style over substance. Last season, they pulled it off. This episode felt like overkill. Why are they shooting the whole thing on 35 mm now? What was with the lingering end sequence of stagnant party shots? It felt like an over-budget American Apparel photo shoot and nothing Fiona Apple didn't do better with the "Criminal" music video. There was another random scene where Sydney Sweeney's character (who I really like) hides in the bathroom from Nate's ex-girlfriend for what seemed like half the episode. Why? It felt like an oddly placed French farce. I'm happy that Rue made a new friend at the party, but disappointed she still went back to Jules, the can-do-no-wrong character who everyone inexplicably obsesses over.

by Anonymousreply 35January 10, 2022 5:16 PM

Interesting, I actually thought this episode had less fantastical stylistic moments than season 1 which really leaned heavily into that r35.

I really apprecuate the visual approach this show takes, but it can go overboad. I was not a fan of the season 1 finale which went that musical choir sequence.

by Anonymousreply 36January 10, 2022 7:41 PM

Yeah, I found this premiere good. It was toned down in some ways while amped up in others

by Anonymousreply 37January 10, 2022 7:45 PM

The guy with the big uncut dick in the bathroom scene was Ansel Pierce. In the comments on his instagram he wants to be sure everyone knows that was him and not a prosthetic.

by Anonymousreply 38January 10, 2022 7:52 PM

Jules looked older AND more mannish.

by Anonymousreply 39January 10, 2022 8:18 PM

This seems like it was made by someone who went to only one party in high school.

by Anonymousreply 40January 10, 2022 9:54 PM

Thought most of the series was focused on working class high school kids?

Where are these drug parties taking place? Who owns these huge homes with pools? Where tons of drug addled kids run amok.

In most films, and TV series, showing partying teens, and even people in their early 20s, it's usually the rich kids houses where parties are held. Wealthy parents travel a lot, certain types of parents don't actually supervise their kids lives, they just throw money and 'things' at them: expensive cars, trips etc.

I went to art school with many kids like this, I was not friendly with them, but was certainly familiar with their unsupervised lifestyles. That aspect is believable, neglected teens and young people, from wealthy backgrounds, who have so much money then can throw parties every weekend and buy tons of drugs.

The aspect which doesn't ring true, poor kids hanging with rich kids, not so much. Most people hang with their own socio-economic group, are we to believe the poor kids are hanging with the rich kids?

Sam Levinson came from money. His father is director Barry Levinson, his mom is Diana Rhodes, a production designer for commercials. Write what you know.

by Anonymousreply 41January 10, 2022 10:46 PM

Does the show take place in LA? If so, this is very realistic. It’s easy to end up at some rich kids party in LA, especially if you’re young and attractive

by Anonymousreply 42January 10, 2022 10:49 PM

Talking about the "realism" of Euphoria is always a weird one to me, at no point (to me at least) does this seem like it this trying to be a realistic look at high school. It's a very surreal hyper-reality vibe.

by Anonymousreply 43January 10, 2022 10:52 PM

Anybody else think that the final scene about Nate was payback to Elordi who had shot his mouth off at the end of last season that he had been injured doing the beating scene with his father and how he had become concussed from slamming his head against the floor and wall so often. And they came back and said that none of it was true and that they ran a hundred percent safe set? It was like if you’re going to say that, we’re really going to give you something you can’t handle.

by Anonymousreply 44January 11, 2022 12:16 AM

Is this him practicing?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 45January 11, 2022 12:24 AM

Do you think Jacob Elordi actually got injured during that scene r44 lol, how would it be "payback". It's all pretend.

I do actually remember what you are referring to, Levinson did seem to eyeroll about Elordi's embellishing the shit out of that story. But I don't see how they are related.

by Anonymousreply 46January 11, 2022 12:36 AM

I took it the Nate/MCKay scene as Nate’s typical possession/control focus broadening to include Cassie, and a power trip because he knew something McKay didn’t. But a lot of people are seeing it as straightforward sexual interest in McKay. What’s DL’s take?

by Anonymousreply 47January 11, 2022 5:13 AM

[quote] The guy with the big uncut dick in the bathroom scene was Ansel Pierce.

Like to have seen them auditioning guys for the part.

by Anonymousreply 48January 11, 2022 5:43 AM

Seriously. Where are all the screen caps?

by Anonymousreply 49January 11, 2022 6:37 AM

[quote]Talking about the "realism" of Euphoria is always a weird one to me, at no point (to me at least) does this seem like it this trying to be a realistic look at high school. It's a very surreal hyper-reality vibe.

This series is like looking at endless photos taken by Davide Sorrenti, Larry Clark, Ryan McGinley, Nan Golden and Dash Snow. Endless photos of very self-destructive young people who live in their own little world, thinking they will live forever.

by Anonymousreply 50January 11, 2022 7:18 AM

R50 I've heard of Nan Golden, but that's it. I'm so bloody out-of-it when it comes to the f'ing art world. More drugs please.

by Anonymousreply 51January 11, 2022 7:36 AM

R51, all the photographers I listed basically shot the dark underbelly of NYC's drug and art scenes, from the 1970s through the early 2000s. As expected, so many involved were from privileged and very wealthy backgrounds.

Dash Snow was a real piece of work, he died in 2007 at 27 from a heroin OD in a $325 a night downtown NYC hotel.

Dash was Uma Thurman's nephew. Dash was entitled with nothing better to do with his trust fund but get high, fuck anything that moved and photograph all his low life partners in crime with a Polaroid. His photos were not art, but somehow art dealers bought into his grift, likely because of his very wealthy background. On his mother's side was the great-grandson of French aristocrats who were heirs to fortunes in textiles and oil-drilling equipment (from the Schlumberger oil dynasty) and founders of Houston's Menil Collection. A background like that sure helps when a person has little real talent.

Every generation has this same sort of low-life scene which someone depicts in photos, nothing new there.

Basically, Dash was yet another useless trust funder, a man with more money than brains. Next!

by Anonymousreply 52January 11, 2022 8:01 AM

R52 Okay, thank you. Come for the stunt penis talk. Stay for the demi-monde art history.

by Anonymousreply 53January 11, 2022 8:24 AM

Zendaya sucks 1,000 cocks a day.

by Anonymousreply 54January 11, 2022 8:43 AM

[quote][R52] Okay, thank you. Come for the stunt penis talk. Stay for the demi-monde art history.

I was simply trying to give some people a little background re certain types of affluent young people. The types who waste their lives on drugs and booze and feeling the need to be part of a popular clique. Not everyone can easily quit drugs. Not every parent can send their kids to a high-priced rehab clinic. Poor people who end up addicted, usually wind up prostituting themselves or homeless or both.

Young people have so much to live for. I know, MARY! Watching this series is extremely depressing. It's like Requiem for Dream on a loop.

If you want to see cocks, watch porn.

by Anonymousreply 55January 11, 2022 9:03 AM

The point is not porn, the point is to break the taboo of showing male nudity in a society that accepts female nudity.

by Anonymousreply 56January 11, 2022 9:29 AM

R55 My thank you. was genuine. Tried to inject a bit of humor.

by Anonymousreply 57January 11, 2022 9:47 AM

[quote]The point is not porn, the point is to break the taboo of showing male nudity in a society that accepts female nudity.

Do viewers really care about seeing male nudity in cable TV shows? Seriously? Is that this series main draw, male nudity? Nate is such a horrible person, I could care less about seeing his dick. He really does have a punchable face. I enjoyed seeing him get beat up!

Who wanted to see that fat guy's fake cock? Not all nudity is pleasant, attractive or erotic. Guess I'm in the minority here, I'd rather a TV series have a decent storyline and good acting. This series has neither, lots of aimless young people getting high and fucking at every available opportunity.

I'm numb to nudity, I went to art school, we always had nude models. I guess nudity is still taboo in 2022? America is so behind with everything.

by Anonymousreply 58January 11, 2022 10:01 AM

No. All over TikTok young people discuss the actual show and the characters, their personalities, their relationships etc. only on DL is it about dicks, like little kids.

My interpretation of Nate and McKay isn’t that is was sexual, but about dominance and intimidation. Nate is being possessive and knows something McKay doesn’t, and wants to make him feel a certain way.

by Anonymousreply 59January 11, 2022 10:19 AM

R45 That gangsta wigger guy talks like that in real life too?

by Anonymousreply 60January 11, 2022 10:27 AM

They played like 10 different songs in the first 15 minutes of the last episode. Sometimes it does feel like it's an edgy non-censored hour long MTV music video.

by Anonymousreply 61January 11, 2022 10:29 AM

Am I the only one who thinks that Judd Apatow's and Leslie Mann's daughter is really attractive?

by Anonymousreply 62January 11, 2022 11:34 AM

Yep r60. Angus Cloud who plays Fez was not a professional actor, he was literally plucked off the street for this role because they liked his vibe for their drug dealer character. He was supposed to die in Season 1, but he ended up doing better than they expected.

by Anonymousreply 63January 11, 2022 1:27 PM

Cam we retired the word "edgy"? Does anyone even know what it means?

by Anonymousreply 64January 11, 2022 1:29 PM

Well since HBOMax launched in 2020, "ever" is a bit strong r75. But yes, very good numbers for the show. It will definitely go as long as Levinson wants.

Though how long can you keep these characters in highschool I wonder. The actors barely pass for highschoolers this season.

by Anonymousreply 76January 12, 2022 2:26 AM

I have to imagine they leave high school at the end of this season...

by Anonymousreply 77January 12, 2022 2:55 AM

Yeah, they can always do a time jump at some point.

I believe this season is shortly after the first, which was in 2019. So they can eventually jump to 2022 at some point.

by Anonymousreply 78January 12, 2022 2:59 AM

I have to say I didn’t notice the special film.

by Anonymousreply 79January 12, 2022 3:04 AM

There are two specials. One is Rue and there’s another

by Anonymousreply 80January 12, 2022 3:06 AM

I meant the Ektachrome.

by Anonymousreply 81January 12, 2022 3:07 AM

R79 you didn’t? Many noticed the look of the show had an “older” look to it. Someone even mentioned it upthread.

by Anonymousreply 82January 12, 2022 3:11 AM

Old film stock wasn't used to film this, Ektachrome film was put back into production for this film.

Wonder WHY would Kodak do that? How much could have they been offered to do that? How bizarre.

In the past, Ektachrome movie film as well as the high speed Ektachrome 400 slide film were mostly used for low light situations, especially when still photographers were prohibited from using flash.

by Anonymousreply 83January 12, 2022 3:45 AM

Someone said that Ektachrome has been back in production since 2017 (and Wikipedia corroborates). I'm sure Kodak doesn't mind the attention though.

by Anonymousreply 84January 12, 2022 4:06 AM

The guy who plays Nate is on Fallon tonight.

by Anonymousreply 85January 12, 2022 4:37 AM

Jacob Elordi is Australian. I had no idea.

by Anonymousreply 86January 12, 2022 5:28 AM

R72 So yeah, this show is trying to be edgy then.

by Anonymousreply 87January 12, 2022 6:19 AM

The scene where the drug dealer is stripping down Fez and the rest while dancing to Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line".... is that Sam Levinson's tribute to Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, when Michael Madsen is torturing the cop while sexily dancing to Gerry Rafferty's "Stuck in the Middle with You"?

by Anonymousreply 88January 12, 2022 6:48 AM

My thoughts on S2E1:

- Zendaya is so overrated as an actress. She's unbelievably beautiful, sure, but she drags down every scene in which she appears.

- There's something so hot about Angus Cloud (Fez) even though he can't act for shit.

- Jacob Elordi is so unbeliably hot, I can't stand it. The scenes with Cassie and Nate speeding and drinking in the truck, and Nate harrassing McKay at the party were so sexually charged. Nate's horrible, but he's easily my favorite character.

- Hunter Schafer had a soft beauty in S1, but she looked surprisingly more masculine in the S2 opener. Initially, I was shocked to find out she's actually transgender...but now it seems a lot more obvious.

- Loved Martha Kelly playing a drug dealer. She was hilarious on "Baskets."

- Everyone raves about how great the show is. I still don't know why it exists and I don't particularly carea what happens to any of the characters (even though I hope Nate's face is ok!). However, the direction and music are consistently perfect. Each episide is like being in a dream.

by Anonymousreply 94January 12, 2022 10:54 AM

Overrated piece of CRAP. If it weren't for Zendaya and the simulated "explicit" sex scenes and nudity no-one would watch it.

by Anonymousreply 95January 12, 2022 11:00 AM

[quote] If it weren't for Zendaya and the simulated "explicit" sex scenes and nudity no-one would watch it.

Well, they found a formula that works for the show finding an audience then.

by Anonymousreply 96January 12, 2022 12:52 PM

That’s what I noticed about Jules, too, how her face and frame have become more male-like. I think it’s the two years and getting older - everyone looked so much older, and so not high school.

by Anonymousreply 97January 12, 2022 12:56 PM

Is Zendaya regarded as a good actress? I find everyone else on this show more interesting than her character.

by Anonymousreply 98January 12, 2022 1:35 PM

They really didn’t give Zendaya anything to do in this episode but “be high”.

by Anonymousreply 99January 12, 2022 1:40 PM

Zendaya won the emmy for season one, so yes fair to say she is regarded as good actor r98.

by Anonymousreply 100January 12, 2022 1:43 PM

I accidentally started watching S1E1, and because it had been so long I completely forgot I had already watched it. Anyway, it reminded me that since the character Rue was so different from Zendaya's previous roles, I was originally impressed by her performance. However, as the show progressed I quickly came to see her as the weakest link.

Zendaya is to acting as Cindy Crawford was to modeling. Neither is the best in their field, but they're smart, motivated, and easy to work with...so they managed to rise to the top of their professions.

Anyway, can someone please clear something up for me: I don't know why, but I initially got the impression Nate was in the closet. By the end of S1, he hadn't done anything particularly gay, but the McKay scene in S2 reminded me of my earlier suspicion. Was that just wishful thinking on my part since Jacob Elordi is so hot? I can't recall what planted that original seed...

by Anonymousreply 101January 12, 2022 1:57 PM

[quote]Hunter Schafer had a soft beauty in S1, but she looked surprisingly more masculine in the S2 opener. Initially, I was shocked to find out she's actually transgender...but now it seems a lot more obvious.

I was thinking that too; I think it's the shoulders - while she looks feminine up close, a wide shot reveals that she looks like she could be a younger Skarsgard brother

by Anonymousreply 102January 12, 2022 2:00 PM

Nate's father is gay so that obviously gives him a lot of complicated thoughts about his own sexuality r101 and this desire to project this toxic alpha male persona, but in terms of what we have seen on screen there is nothing that says Nate is actually gay himself, unless you count his attraction to Jules.

by Anonymousreply 103January 12, 2022 2:04 PM

I noticed too that Hunter S appeared to have more masculine features than in season one.

by Anonymousreply 104January 12, 2022 2:05 PM

In the bridge episode focusing on her character, Jules told her therapist that she wanted to discontinue her blockers. Maybe that was a way to cover for her more masculine appearance this year.

JULES: I mean, uh… Yeah. Uh, I think I really wanna go off my hormones.

THERAPIST: Okay.

JULES: Or… Well, not like everything. Probably just my blockers. I have, like, this weird sci-fi chip implant in my arm.

THERAPIST: Supprelin?

JULES: Yeah, and it, like, stops my voice from dropping. Um, my balls from getting bigger, you know? The kind of shit that men wouldn’t find desirable.

by Anonymousreply 105January 12, 2022 2:06 PM

Move over Christian Bale and Jared Leto...Hunter Schafer just raised the bar on actors going to extremes for their craft.

by Anonymousreply 106January 12, 2022 2:20 PM

Hmm.

Now I wonder if Hunter went off some of the hormones so they wrote that into the episode. Would explain things.

by Anonymousreply 107January 12, 2022 2:23 PM

Woah, I don't remember the scene at R91.

R108, the scene isn't as hot as that TilTok clip indicates. Nate proceeds to beat the shit out of that guy as soon as he kneels down (worse than what happened to him in the latest episode).

by Anonymousreply 109January 12, 2022 2:54 PM

The main thoughts about Nate being Gay is that he has an extensive collection of Dic pics in his phone, none of which are his and he’s on Gay apps as well.

by Anonymousreply 110January 12, 2022 3:59 PM

Zendaya is a goddess

by Anonymousreply 111January 12, 2022 4:21 PM

Nate isn’t gay though. Like this black gay guy said on TikTok, people wanting that character to be gay doesn’t mean he’s gay, and most likely he isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 112January 12, 2022 4:22 PM

r112 then he's bi, whatever. He went after pre-op Jules (they sent nudes), he had tons of dick picks on his phone of various colors (couldn't be catfishing), he watching his dad fuck guys and trans partners, he was getting off on McKay's dick going in Cassie after his. He's probably not gay, but certainly bisexual. Nate likes cock.

by Anonymousreply 113January 12, 2022 4:34 PM

Dick pics^

by Anonymousreply 114January 12, 2022 4:34 PM

[quote] The main thoughts about Nate being Gay is that he has an extensive collection of Dic pics in his phone, none of which are his and he’s on Gay apps as well.

He had the dick picks on his phone to catfish Jules who is on Gay hook-up apps (that's how Jules met Nate's dad). Apparently his dick isn't impressive enough to be sent.

by Anonymousreply 115January 12, 2022 4:36 PM

The dicks were white, black, and brown r115. His profile was of a white guy. Those dicks pics were partially for Jules but also for himself.

by Anonymousreply 116January 12, 2022 4:39 PM

No. He downloaded different dick pics to catfish Jules with. If she blocked one account he could make another with a different guy.

by Anonymousreply 117January 12, 2022 4:41 PM

r117 we have no proof of that, but ewe do know that the profile was white and he had tons of photos of other color's cocks. He's also super weird about dicks in public (overcompensation).

He's also into a girl with a dick! He's a bisexual, no matter what the SJW have to say about it.

by Anonymousreply 118January 12, 2022 4:54 PM

[Quote]He's also super weird about dicks in public (overcompensation)

Well yeah, he found out as a kid that his dad secretly fucks a lot of guys and started watching his dad's gay sex tapes. He has a shit ton of issues around his sexuality.

Whether those issues also extend to him personally being into guys? Unknown, I doubt the character can even tell. But I don't think him being into a very femme presenting Jules is the show trying to say he is. But clearly it gives Nate some anxiety because it's a little too gay.

This is also matches Elordi's thoughts in interviews.

by Anonymousreply 119January 12, 2022 5:08 PM

I just think that anyone attracted to someone that they know for a fact have a dick is on the bisexual spectrum. At the lake, he showed that he was very much attracted to Jules.

Nate is clearly bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 120January 12, 2022 5:15 PM

Nate is a fucked up sociopath. He gets off on playing fucked up mind games with people, like Tyler (Lucas Gage) in season one.

Nate would actually thrive, taking over the drug business in the town. It gives him an even greater outlet to torment people.

by Anonymousreply 121January 12, 2022 9:10 PM

Ironically, I love everything about this show except the two main characters. Rae and Jules are so tedious/grating after a while. But most everything else is brilliant and hotttt esp Jacob E and his daddy. And let's hope Daniel comes back this season!

by Anonymousreply 122January 12, 2022 9:55 PM

Can we just agree that they’re both smokin hot?

by Anonymousreply 123January 12, 2022 10:02 PM

Hunter always looked like a boy to me. It's Zendaya who's got the more mannish appearance this season.

by Anonymousreply 125January 12, 2022 11:17 PM

I think Nate is supposed to be sexually conflicted, or hates that he has some same-sex attraction. Last season, he was trying to fuck Maddy - from behind - and couldn’t get hard. I think those types of events are supposed to point to his confusion. Not saying he’s not into fucking chicks, but if you’re okay fucking chicks, would you really be that angry all the time? I get the anger stems from his father as well, but I really think there’s more to it than that. I think he’s turned on/confused by Jules, and seeing his dad fuck Jules screwed with his head. He’s also extremely jealous and possessive. And no, it’s not all wishful thinking on my part - it just seems obvious there’s more to Nate’s sexuality than people think.

by Anonymousreply 126January 13, 2022 12:01 AM

Nate's Dad is getting his backstory told in episode 3. I look forward to more Eric Dane.

r126. I think it's more about Nate being traumatized or fucked up by being exposed to pornography (his dad's sex tapes) too early in his life. I could see the show is showing his struggle with sex in general, because of how he found out about it. Just look at Billie Eilish blaming her exposure to hardcore porn at a young age with her issues regarding sex.

Poor Sydney Sweeney will probably be topless in every episode.

by Anonymousreply 131January 13, 2022 12:34 AM

Remember Nate trying SO HARD not to glance at other guy's dicks in the locker room?

Do straight guys obsess over that?

by Anonymousreply 132January 13, 2022 12:34 AM

you decrepit fags are too old to be bickering about a 2020s reboot of skins

by Anonymousreply 133January 13, 2022 12:36 AM

Nate was exposed to porn and sex since very young. This has altered his brain and views of sex and relationships, and this is actually something that has been proven scientifically. Watching hardcore porn at a young age regularly is damaging to the brain.

It being gay sex he saw has caused a lot more issues and confusion.

Doesn’t mean he’s gay.

by Anonymousreply 134January 13, 2022 12:46 AM

It's not that it was porn. It was his father cheating on his mother, and watching the dick that made him fuck a lot of guys.

You are missing the forest for the trees, that it was porn is the more minor part of the psychological scarring r134.

by Anonymousreply 135January 13, 2022 2:14 AM

Hunter was very unique looking and pretty during the first season. She looks more masculine now. This video reminded me of that.

[quote]I can guarantee one thing. IF Nate ends up NOT being gay, these threads are going to be filled with anger and resentment. HA

Like in the first season when some read the leaked script and were pissed that they looked like utter fools for teasing things that never materialized in the actual show?

by Anonymousreply 139January 13, 2022 12:09 PM

I refuse to watch this. This is plain “poor little rich me” pablum.

by Anonymousreply 140January 13, 2022 1:29 PM

R138 You always wanted to see them? You know this isn't the first time she showed them, right?

by Anonymousreply 141January 13, 2022 2:45 PM

The show is not good in the traditional sense. However, it's absolutely beautiful and I enjoy watching each episode unfold (even though I couldn't give a lesser fuck about any individual storyline).

by Anonymousreply 142January 13, 2022 3:59 PM

Do you have to have seen the short stories which were released last year or so before watching the new season?

by Anonymousreply 143January 13, 2022 4:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 144January 13, 2022 4:03 PM

[quote] I love that DLers aren’t aware the show runners didn’t make the show for gay men in their 50s+

DLers love it (Zendaya can't do wrong around here), it's the One Million Moms shriekers, trying to be stealth, posting the negative comments.

by Anonymousreply 145January 13, 2022 4:06 PM

R143, that question was already asked and answered... but to repeat: those two "special" episodes are not exactly REQUIRED to watch season 2, but they're incredibly good. They're very focused episodes... one is mostly Rue and her Sponsor sitting at a diner talking. It's great. The other is mostly Jules and her therapist talking. And it's even better.

Neither episode is anything like a normal episode of "Euphoria". Each is centered around just one character, and their relationship to the other.

by Anonymousreply 146January 13, 2022 4:15 PM

Zendaya is not only the star but Head Executive Producer of season 2.

by Anonymousreply 147January 13, 2022 4:41 PM

Who did she give head too?

by Anonymousreply 148January 13, 2022 4:44 PM

Lol, she is not the "head executive producer" r147. She has an executive producer credit now, which good for her. She is one of many with an executive producer credit on this show.

by Anonymousreply 152January 13, 2022 7:30 PM

I had never even heard of this show until a few weeks ago and just quickly scrolled down past all of these posts (as I am just getting on episode 4/ Season 1)

This is is the most addictive (and DARK) show I have ever seen. I feel very dirty after each episode. This show sometimes touches the greatness and intensity of Breaking Bad. Its kind of like Breaking Bad meets Insecure meets Girls meets Savage Streets.

It's something else.

by Anonymousreply 153January 14, 2022 12:17 AM

I say Breaking Bad meets Skins meets Gossip Girl r153 lol. But we are on similar paths

by Anonymousreply 154January 14, 2022 12:18 AM

R154 I have never even seen Gossip Girl but I think I read here that the NEW version is even better than the old version.

And I have to say that these kids (they are generally 22-26 in real life) are pretty brave to be on this show.

I cannot fathom what these scenes/scripts look like "on the page".. I am shocked at this show and was addicted by the end of the first episode.

I am going to try to catch up so I can read this thread!

by Anonymousreply 155January 14, 2022 12:24 AM

[quote] That clip is true, [R151]. I'm not even a fan of hers, but she's pretty much peerless.

Used the Disney channel for the first time. after paying for years, to watch 2 episodes of K.C. Undercover. Zendaya in a totally different type of role. She seems to be the real deal.

by Anonymousreply 156January 14, 2022 12:25 AM

Isn’t this show for the 25 and under demographic?

by Anonymousreply 157January 14, 2022 12:30 AM

The show runners are very clear the show is about teens but not for teens (although they know teens will still watch, they encourage parents to not let them). Their demographic is 21-35. And that’s who is mostly watching, but season 2 is already killing it and seems to be attracting people of all ages, a lot of people older seem to be watching too.

by Anonymousreply 158January 14, 2022 12:33 AM

They've promo'ed the season premiere on MSNBC, with not exactly a youth or even young adult viewership.

by Anonymousreply 159January 14, 2022 12:39 AM

43 here.

by Anonymousreply 160January 14, 2022 12:40 AM

[quote] I love that Sydney Sweeney is showing her boobs. I have always wanted to see them. Bodacious!

I really loved the scene in season one, where Cassie is making a public spectacle of herself at the fair on the carousel, in the throes of drug-induced sexual paroxysms. Sweeney is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 161January 14, 2022 12:47 AM

Sorry, I am not on episode 4 I am only on episode 3! After checking out IMDB and learning that Zendaya won the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama, there is no doubt in my mind that it is for Episode 3. Wow. She had 5-6 incredible scenes which showed some great range.

by Anonymousreply 162January 14, 2022 1:30 AM

The show is worth the price of admission for the pleasure of looking at Jacob Eldori.

by Anonymousreply 163January 14, 2022 1:55 AM

R162 I believe Episode 4 is the one that takes place in the Carnival. It was an amazingly directed - and hypnotic - episode. Not only the best of last series' season, but I'd put it up with the best of any series ever. Let me know what you think once you've seen it.

by Anonymousreply 164January 14, 2022 3:59 AM

The carnival episode introduced me to Champagne Coast by Blood Orange, which has become one of my Top 50 most played songs of all time.

It really was a beautiful episode...and honestly the one that forced me to stop hate watching the show.

by Anonymousreply 165January 14, 2022 7:37 AM

Maddie looks like a deranged chola hooker. Would someone like Nate really go for hoodrat?

by Anonymousreply 166January 14, 2022 8:55 AM

R166 Why wouldn't someone like Nate "go for" any woman who's hot? He's like 17. Despite all signs leading to Nate probably being closeted as cliche as that would be.

R142 and R144 Pretty much sums it up.

by Anonymousreply 167January 14, 2022 10:25 AM

R166 she’s hot. That’s what he cares about. He’s no saint, dear. The fact you place him above her because he’s white says so much. He’s actually a lot worse than that “hoodrat” who isn’t even a hoodrat.

by Anonymousreply 168January 14, 2022 10:35 AM

R168 Perfectly stated. I thought about going there, but...

by Anonymousreply 169January 14, 2022 10:45 AM

It is more to do with classism than race. Quit race baiting you old ignorant assholes.

by Anonymousreply 170January 14, 2022 12:09 PM

Maddy is hot but she is trashy looking much like a cut rate Kardashian.

by Anonymousreply 171January 14, 2022 12:25 PM

Actually, the posts about Maddie are a relevant plug for the carnival episode: Nate berates her for the way she's dressed because his family has a concession booth at the carnival, and it's tradition for the family to work it. She jokes that her outfit will probably bring in more customers, and Nate only gets angrier.

Ultimately, she's pretty and popular, so Nate feels she's the most logical choice of girlfriend, but he still cares what his parents might think.

by Anonymousreply 172January 14, 2022 1:12 PM

R172 that’s the case for most young people. You typically stop caring as you get older.

by Anonymousreply 173January 14, 2022 1:22 PM

Maddie’s wardrobe don’t make her a “hoodrat” though. Slutty, maybe, but she’s not dressed as a “hoodrat”. She’s just a bitch. But she’s not from “the hood”.

by Anonymousreply 174January 14, 2022 1:23 PM

R170 classism? What makes you assume she’s beneath him in class levels?

by Anonymousreply 175January 14, 2022 1:24 PM

I'm watching the first season after catching the season 2 premiere. Maddy is basically hairless, which is Nate's #1 priority for women. He's a caricature of toxic masculinity. Really- the show writer's are my age and it's almost a hilarious satire of Jezebel and Newsweek articles made into a sexy soap opera with great cinematography (because the creator is Barry Levinson's son and has the best connections for below the line help, I'm sure).

I'll still watch it though. But it's so dramatic and grotesque.

by Anonymousreply 176January 14, 2022 1:28 PM

Well it’s a teenage drama made for adults with serious issues.

There’s a viral video on TT of a girl laughing at how people bitch about how dramatic the show is and all the issues the teens have because she personally had some of those issues as a teen and a lot of her friends did too. In the comments a lot of young people are saying the shit they’ve done themselves or their friends do or just seen people do in modern HS and how older people (Millennials and older) don’t understand what it’s like for young people in schools today vs them, with internet, easy porn access leading to everything being oversexualized or girls feeling they need to be and dress a certain way for boys to like them, easy access to drugs and pills, easy access to alcohol these days etc.

Kids today seem fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 177January 14, 2022 1:33 PM

Fucked up kids will be fucked up and dramatic- they aren't this sexy and beating people to death and getting raped every week. Also, do you really believe the kids on TikTok? All of my nieces are on there telling tales.

Proving my Newsweek point. Everything is just the worst ever! DRAMA!

by Anonymousreply 178January 14, 2022 1:42 PM

R178 you have an awful flaw where you think all teens are the same, the same way you think all black people are the same and all gays are the same etc.

Look around you. A lot of violence is going on with young people. A lot of rape, yes, which is why it’s become such a talking point. A lot of drugs. A lot of sex. A lot of porn from young ages etc.

by Anonymousreply 179January 14, 2022 1:45 PM

R179, you're right. This surrealist TV show is the truth. Sure, you win.

And you weren't the least bit overdramatic. Thank you for proving me wrong.

by Anonymousreply 180January 14, 2022 1:56 PM

Wait, so now you have nieces?! Lmaoooooooooo

by Anonymousreply 181January 14, 2022 1:59 PM

R170 is a white Berner or Republican. And needs to shut up.

The carnival episode was a stunning work, visually, and deserved awards for direction & cinematography or whatever. It was a work of art.

by Anonymousreply 182January 14, 2022 6:31 PM

The way the carnival episode was shot and edited was some of the best television ever.

by Anonymousreply 183January 14, 2022 6:38 PM

Just finished 1.4... I feel misled by the praise, this is Grand Guignol lurid. More more more. All of everything all at once.

... but is this what you need to appeal to viewers raised on TikTok and YouTube? Flashing through 30 second to 1 minute vignettes of intense colorful high drama?

by Anonymousreply 184January 14, 2022 7:55 PM

r184 just go back to watching Frasier reruns.

by Anonymousreply 185January 14, 2022 7:57 PM

R182 and R183, I'm not being shitty- how old are you? I am genuinely curious.

by Anonymousreply 186January 14, 2022 7:58 PM

R185 try Fassbinder, try Visconti. Try something real before calling this art!

by Anonymousreply 187January 14, 2022 7:59 PM

R184 then maybe stop watching!? It’s clearly not a show you like.

by Anonymousreply 188January 14, 2022 8:00 PM

r187 I never called the show art. We understand and know that anything praised by the youth will be scoffed at by older generations. It's tired and old to hear such things.

by Anonymousreply 189January 14, 2022 8:04 PM

I like the candy colored lurid insanity of it- I just don't think it's artistically or dramatically as good as you do, evidently R188. I was hoping I was missing something, but as I've just been personally attacked by the defenders of the show, I'll assume it's because I am not 14.

by Anonymousreply 190January 14, 2022 8:05 PM

If the show isn't for you, it's not for you. Why some people feel the need to post "this show isn't for me! I'm out!", when it's a streaming hit for HBO Max, what do they expect other than "Bye Felicia!"?

Constructive criticism is one thing, outrage that shows aren't designed to appeal to you specifically makes you look like a small-minded fool.

by Anonymousreply 191January 14, 2022 8:19 PM

I thought the party went on for too long in this episode. I was starting to get bored. I was more interested in the first half, the details of the drug dealer's lfe and his crazy-ass grandmother. I think it would have been stronger if they had focused more on that.

by Anonymousreply 192January 14, 2022 9:32 PM

The hiding in the bath tub scene was an embarrassment. Even a low hanging blonde showing the goods couldn’t compensate for that.

by Anonymousreply 193January 14, 2022 9:36 PM

I could have done without seeing a hanging, smelly-looking thong.

by Anonymousreply 194January 14, 2022 11:25 PM

How hasn’t this show spawned a line of perfumes and colognes already? I want one called Tyler’s Clean Underwear.

by Anonymousreply 195January 14, 2022 11:27 PM

[quote] Maddie looks like a deranged chola hooker.

I was helped by a Target employee the other day who looked exactly like Maddie, same hair, same eye-makeup, same nails - but of course more conservatively dressed. She was very sweet, spent 3 minutes on her digital device unsuccessfully trying to locate where lawn & garden stuff had moved to - so adept at the touchscreen even with the outrageous nails. I fought the temptation a few times to ask her if she'd ever watched Euphoria.

Looking like a cheap whore has seemed to be just a cool look for young girls, but recently its gotten really amped up.

I am fascinated by this; I can't even imagine the dexterity this skill requires. Those nails strike me as incredibly unsanitary & uncomfortable, but I'm amazed at how well young women can operate with them.

I'm middle aged & I guess I never felt *old* exactly, but the antics of the younger generation make me feel very old.

by Anonymousreply 205January 15, 2022 11:45 AM

I watch it for the gratuitous sex scenes and nudity. Without them, it’s an otherwise boring show with Zendaya’s character the blandest one.

by Anonymousreply 208January 15, 2022 12:19 PM

Hopefully there's a storyline where Nate is lured into doing gay porn for a Sean Cody-esque site. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally people who grow up wealthy do porn for inexplicable reasons (Frederik Eklund, "Joey" and "Nick" from Sean Cody).

by Anonymousreply 209January 15, 2022 6:25 PM

A lot of porn stars throughout the years have come from wealthy and/or affluent backgrounds

by Anonymousreply 210January 15, 2022 6:29 PM

Zendaya/Rue is the least interesting character to me.

by Anonymousreply 211January 15, 2022 7:41 PM

R187 The filmmaking/production of this show is certainly art regardless of the story content, which isn't groundbreaking but well handled. I'm no "Zendaya is a genius" troll but she is not bad or uninteresting on the show. Watch the stand alone episode with her and Colman Domingo. Both are excellent in mostly one static setting with nothing but dialogue. There is a nervous energy and tension that exudes out of this series that is palpable, i.e. the carnival episode. It may be style over substance but it is captivating entertainment nonetheless.

by Anonymousreply 212January 15, 2022 7:56 PM

Colman Domingo can’t seem to act without chewing scenery, what’s up with that?

by Anonymousreply 213January 15, 2022 8:05 PM

However, I am shocked that these 2 young (straight) guys have never enjoyed or seen this show.

They are the ones who recommend shows to ME.

Anyway, I love it.

I’m 50 and love it. My 17 year old niece and I watched together last week…it was kind of uncomfortable but it’s nice to have someone to watch with. Her dad (my brother) was disturbed by the number of penises and went to his office to get away.

R231. Can you fucking DIE?

I truly cannot believe how horrible these pieces of shit are on this site,.

I'm on my phone trying to figure out how to PROVE that I had some insipid conversation about a tv show with my 2 nephews and realized-

Fuck off and die R230. And suck my dick.

So is the show just evil people doing evil things to other people?

by Anonymousreply 236January 16, 2022 3:36 PM

This show is god fucking awful. Terrible writing, terrible acting, and the so called "beauty" of it is nothing if you've seen, well, a movie that's not Marvel shit. Forget Fassbinder and Visconti, if you've watched Gasper Noe you know Euphoria isn't shit. If you're over 18 and calling it "great," you need a brain scan.

by Anonymousreply 237January 16, 2022 3:47 PM

It’s terrific.

by Anonymousreply 238January 16, 2022 3:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 242January 17, 2022 1:50 AM

Gross. A Jacob Elordi heavy episode and it's full of tits and not even his ass.

At least there was a brief glimpse of Eric Dane rimming a guy.

by Anonymousreply 243January 17, 2022 2:09 AM

Jacob Elordi doesn’t do nudity

by Anonymousreply 244January 17, 2022 2:11 AM

I hope you're joking, R244.

by Anonymousreply 245January 17, 2022 2:17 AM

I just realized Cassie and Lexi's mom is played by Alanna Ubach, who's a great character actress. She's best known for playing Elle's friend Serena (the brunette) in Legally Blonde. She was also great as one of the co-stars of Clockwatchers (with Tony Collette, Lisa Kudrow, and Parker Posey).

by Anonymousreply 246January 17, 2022 2:21 AM

Didn’t the Jules actress used to have breasts?

by Anonymousreply 247January 17, 2022 2:24 AM

A Gasper Noe film? Now, that is some mind-blowing shit.

Noe's Enter the Void was like a bad acid trip. Thankfully, we didn't have to endure too much of alcoholic burnout Paz de la Huerta's 'acting'.

by Anonymousreply 248January 17, 2022 2:43 AM

I swear to god I cannot tell the two blond bimbos apart.

The one in love with Nate, and the one staying at the drug dealers place with the fish lips... Literally, look identical to me except for the fishlips. I always have to stop and focus on the mouth to figure out which one it is.

by Anonymousreply 256January 17, 2022 5:24 AM

Wow at that rimming scene.

by Anonymousreply 257January 17, 2022 5:28 AM

The hunk in the sword fantasy was someone I frequently fantasize about seeing naked, but he's never gone full frontal, and that dick was of course totally, totally fake.

He's one of the few "long haired muscle men" I find seriously sexy and attractive. Usually that look does nothing for me.

by Anonymousreply 258January 17, 2022 5:40 AM

Okay, call me pathetic, but I really really identified with the fat chick's issues... can't love back someone who loves her, hates herself, and sabotages herself. That whole scene hit really close to home.

by Anonymousreply 259January 17, 2022 5:40 AM

I wonder if those beasts are implants or natural on Cassie?

by Anonymousreply 260January 17, 2022 5:49 AM

Ffs, breasts, not beasts.

by Anonymousreply 261January 17, 2022 5:50 AM

Most of the dicks you see on this show are prosthetics. Not all, but most.

by Anonymousreply 262January 17, 2022 6:38 AM

Sydney's boobs are real, R260.

Interesting episode tonight since it wasn't focused on a character's back story. Why Nate is suddenly in love with Cassie doesn't make much sense. He was either ambivalent or outright hated her during season one. And now he wants to marry her and have babies? It seems a little inconsistent.

Hunter does look a lot more masculine this season. But in the Jules special episode, she told her therapist she wanted to stop her hormones (or take less), so that could explain why she looks different.

Next week gives Cal's long-awaited back story.

by Anonymousreply 263January 17, 2022 7:26 AM

Oh, yeah, the Cassie infatuation makes no sense...especially since teenage boys are known for being logical.

Nate was laid up in a hospital and he was daydreaming about the future. He then got out and proceeded to treat Cassie like shit.

One question I have: Cal mentioned hating his son. Did he give Fez money as a reward for beating up Nate, or was he just trying to be intimidating?

by Anonymousreply 264January 17, 2022 7:35 AM

That actually makes sense for Nate…

by Anonymousreply 265January 17, 2022 7:47 AM

Did Nate ever eat out Maddie, or is this new for him?

by Anonymousreply 266January 17, 2022 7:57 AM

Nate is daydreaming of Cassie and a still shot of Jules is in the middle of the fantasy. It’s all symbolic.

by Anonymousreply 267January 17, 2022 8:00 AM

Well some people are not liking the ass eating scene. The comments section is filled with people grossed out or upset it was included and even saying they may stop watching because of it.

[quote]One question I have: Cal mentioned hating his son. Did he give Fez money as a reward for beating up Nate, or was he just trying to be intimidating?

I took it as Cal rewarding Fez for the well-deserved (and long overdue) comeuppance to Nate. Cal seems to recognize Nate's problems, but because of his own issues & his awareness that Nate is on to him, he can't really do anything about it. I think this season ends with Cal trying to stop Nate, but Nate exposing him & blowing up the whole family.

I watched a Euphoria marathon yesterday; once you get passed the shock value, it kind of reminds of "My So Called Life" with nudity. I thought it was interesting & you felt for the kids in spite of the bad behavior & disastrous decisions, but I didn't really buy Nate as American Psycho & the Fat Girl Dominatrix. That Nate could spin all these webs, manipulating his way out of an assault charge & Kat could be the exploiter - rather than the exploited - just seemed far fetched.

by Anonymousreply 269January 17, 2022 11:00 AM

But guys like that do exist r269. Scary but true.

Nate is a sociopathic, psychopathic narcissist and Grade A manipulator.

by Anonymousreply 270January 17, 2022 1:39 PM

Long-awaited by who R263? lol

by Anonymousreply 271January 17, 2022 1:55 PM

While I enjoy Euphoria, last night it occurred to me that I genuinely don't care about any of the characters' relationships, or whether they live or die. I don't sense any genuine affection between characters, and there's nobody's death I'd find devastating. It might cross an uncrossable line in TV, but if the series ended with all the main characters dying in a school shooting, THAT would tear my heart out.

Anyway, my favorite characters are Nate and Maddy simply because they're hot and cause chaos wherever they go.

by Anonymousreply 272January 17, 2022 2:03 PM

[quote]While I enjoy Euphoria, last night it occurred to me that I genuinely don't care about any of the characters' relationships, or whether they live or die.

Oh, I don't know; a lot of posters bash Zendaya, but even at her worst, Rue is a person you still want to root for & hope she makes it. At the same time, you realize the deck is stacked against her to stay sober & she clearly doesn't know how to function as a person who isn't high as a kite on something. She can be bratty & raging one minute & pitiable the next, but you still care about her even if you understand how other people are completely exasperated with her. I also like McKay because he's coming to that realization that many people come to when they leave high school - I am not as great/smart/talented as I thought I was. Everyone else in the wider world is the same or better.

I don't know doubt that people like Nate exist - I guess it was just the little "sex offender" plot twist that he used on the kid from the party & Jules seemed a bit much. At the very least, the kid from the party surely had to explain to someone (emergency room, cops, etc.) what happened to him, which would've been a good time to say "the crazy boyfriend of this girl that I fucked at a party, that I had no idea was underaged, is stalking & harassing me." Since all the kids are sending nudes to each other, why would Nate have an upper hand on Jules as "child porn"? Unlike the other kids, Jules appears to have a supportive parent she could turn to.

by Anonymousreply 273January 17, 2022 2:27 PM

R249 They don't look anything alike. I mean they are both blonde slim young women, but one looks like a trashy porn star with fake lips and the other is really attractive looking girl

by Anonymousreply 274January 17, 2022 2:40 PM

I think the whole set up of this series is to kill Rue’s sister as the only thing that will have any direct impact in making her change. What will be interesting to see is if it comes earlier on or only with the penultimate episode.

by Anonymousreply 275January 17, 2022 2:59 PM

R273 we can all send nudes to each other but that doesn’t mean I can’t single you out and get you in trouble if I have yours.

I was kind of hoping that the Carnival episode would've turned Rue around when she sees her little sister potentially starting her own downward spiral. But that would've probably been too Hallmark or Lifetime (getting sober for good to be a good role model for your little sister).

by Anonymousreply 277January 17, 2022 5:16 PM

Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi riding around in the car remind me of Nancy Allen and Travolta in "Carrie."

Sydney and Nancy are very similar facially.

by Anonymousreply 287January 17, 2022 11:57 PM

Not really. Sydney has weird eyes. Whatever eye makeup she wore during the first episode did not help.

by Anonymousreply 288January 18, 2022 12:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 289January 18, 2022 12:20 AM

[quote]Elordi can give the most incredibly creepy stare.

He really does creepy well, doesn't he? An actor could easily overplay it- but a big part of Nate character is that he says & does the cruelest things with a very calm demeanor and does it in an almost whispering voice, not sneering like you'd expect. Elordi & Eric Dane could have some spin off HBO show where they catfish trannies only to kill them & cook them in chili

I can't wait for crazy Maddie to unleash the kraken/sex DVD in her possession

by Anonymousreply 290January 18, 2022 12:30 AM

So stupid that Nate would drive to a secluded spot on the other side of town to to tell Cassie they couldn’t see each other. Drive around the block tell her and drop her off back at home. Completely nonsensical.

by Anonymousreply 293January 18, 2022 1:52 AM

I also think they used it to indicate the passing of time.

by Anonymousreply 305January 18, 2022 3:27 AM

Yes. I think they’re gonna fast forward time with each episode being that the first episode of this season takes place right after season 1, which was 2019.

by Anonymousreply 306January 18, 2022 3:30 AM

Did Jules actually go to NY and get an apartment? How long was she gone. I must have missed the explanation.

by Anonymousreply 307January 18, 2022 3:32 AM

LA not New York r307, this show takes place in some fictional suburban town in Southern California.

Jules ran off, but was brought back by her father. That comes from the specials.

In terms of timeline, season 1 ends with their winter dance in December. The specials take place around Christmas, and then Season 2 begins New Years Eve. So only a couple of weeks have passed between seasons.

by Anonymousreply 308January 18, 2022 3:43 AM

The apartment was all made up?

by Anonymousreply 309January 18, 2022 4:22 AM

I'm a 52 year old real life Cal Jacobs (closeted and with the nuclear family, if not the sociopathy) and I fucking love this show.

by Anonymousreply 310January 18, 2022 12:40 PM

[quote] So stupid that Nate would drive to a secluded spot on the other side of town to to tell Cassie they couldn’t see each other.

Sociopaths do this to make their victim feel more isolated, more vulnerable, than ever. If she were close to home, she could just run back home and go to her room, her safe space, and deal with being dumped. It's usually about her going "no, don't leave me! I need you!" to make the guy feel all big and powerful.

by Anonymousreply 311January 18, 2022 1:46 PM

Has anyone seen the Israeli show on which this is based? Is it this "bad"?

by Anonymousreply 312January 18, 2022 2:27 PM

R312 is it in English?

by Anonymousreply 313January 18, 2022 3:01 PM

Yes, the apartment in Rue and Jules' special episodes was a fantasy, R309. In fact, according to Rue's special episode, she's an unreliable narrator, and a lot of her interactions with Jules may have been fantasy -- the scene of them getting "RULES" tattooed on the inside of their lower lip was only a suggestion and didn't happen in real life.

by Anonymousreply 314January 18, 2022 3:28 PM

R310, tell us more! Does your wife have any idea? Have you thought about leaving the family?

by Anonymousreply 315January 18, 2022 3:28 PM

I hope McKay saves Cassie from Nate's creepy clutches; granted, she's a bit dim, but I feel sorry for the girl. Same with Fez; I have a feeling the season ends with him dead.

by Anonymousreply 316January 18, 2022 8:15 PM

I don't expect there to be anymore McKay for the rest of the season r316.

There has been a lot of talk of how he has been written out of the show, and the actor has been giving those type of stories "like" on social media so I assume it is true.

by Anonymousreply 317January 18, 2022 8:22 PM

Angus Cloud (Fez) is a first generation American. He was born and raised in Oakland, California but his family moved there from Ireland, where the majority of his family still is.

He was working at a chicken-and-waffles restaurant close to the Barclays Center after he moved to NYC when he was scouted by one of the producers because they felt his look and vibe WAS Fez. He thought it was a scam at first but when he realized it wasn’t the rest is history.

He was supposed to die during season 1 but he exceeded their expectations and fans like him so they kept him. He’s one of the fan favs on the show.

R346, "the Irish curse" isn't some DL-created myth. Notice how one hand comfortably covered whatever it was he was trying to hide.

by Anonymousreply 347January 20, 2022 11:24 AM

I don't understand some of the logic on these threads. Why is it so difficult to suspend disbelief? It's a goddamn TV show, but people are projecting their asses off here. "Nate wouldn't do this or Nate wouldn't go for that." I mean...really examining the psychology of a character --who isn't very deep in the first place--is kinda odd. ESPECIALLY, coming from people who are most likely 20 years old than the show's demographic. I get why psych hospitals don't let patience watch a lot of these shows.

R344 Weirdly enough, I get that. Sometimes I don’t like the clarity and immediacy of really old movies on HD. I like that slight fuzziness, the mystery and remove adds glamour:

r310 here. Yeah my wife probably suspects deep down, if I'm being honest. Why do I stay? Well, I actually love my kids and the security and "normalcy" the straight nuclear family gives me. It also helps that I have a FB who I can get together with from time to time to release my urges. Of course, I would prefer to be out and open and happy with another man, but this is the direction I chose in life and there could be worse ones.

by Anonymousreply 361January 21, 2022 12:50 PM

[quote] Cohen and that White Lotus dude went out but nothing happened according to Cohen

I just watched Cohen's show with him as guest. I thought he was way cuter as himself than in either his White Lotus or Euphoria roles. He wouldn't rule out a return in season 2 of Euphoria, no mention for White Lotus.

by Anonymousreply 362January 21, 2022 11:36 PM

I guess he is well liked. He came back, one episode only, for the second season of Love, Victor.

by Anonymousreply 363January 21, 2022 11:56 PM

Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat, and Sam Levinson supposedly got into a huge argument while filming season 2 because she’s hating the direction he is going with her character this season, and because of it he cut down her role significantly. She didn’t even show up to the season 2 premiere. I assume she will be gone in season 3.

The actor who plays McKay left because he was taking issue with the writing for his character also.

by Anonymousreply 364January 22, 2022 12:43 AM

The actor who played McKay himself replaced an actor (Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley) who was originally hired to play that role. THAT actor quit before the pilot was finished. So if now Algee Smith is quitting... it makes you start to wonder.

by Anonymousreply 365January 22, 2022 1:36 AM

This is a show that should use a diverse group of writers. Some shows would benefit from that, and this is that type of show that would.

I heard a few of the cast have taken issue with season 2 while filming, including Sydney Sweeney who doesn’t understand why she’s now naked in every single episode. Some feel it’s getting too pornographic, and supposedly some are taking issue with Jacob’s huge bump in screen time and that he’s one of the few who Levinson will listen to, while fucking up the other characters minus Rue, of course because Zendaya is his star and now a producer.

Supposedly on the first season the actors had some input in building their characters but this time they don’t minus Jacob and Zendaya, and they’re not taking issue with Z because she’s the star (and a star) but they are with Jacob getting special treatment, and supposedly a Nate redemption arc is underway because of Jacob.

by Anonymousreply 366January 22, 2022 5:28 AM

Sydney's naked because she has to pull the weight for Zendaya not getting naked and the world is not ready to see an actress like Hunter naked. Also, I think they are being cautious with Hunter’s nudity as anything they do will come off as exploitive no matter what. Jacob is their male lead, I still don’t understand why he did not get his stand alone episode during hiatus. There must be a very big story about that, which I hope it comes out at some point. He is really the only strong male lead and as such that is the show’s fault that it is much more gender unbalanced from the start. Considering McCay is away at college, Lukas’s character wasn’t in high school and Fez was to be killed off, they’ve done a shitty job of developing male characters. Nate’s brother should have been younger, not older, and emerging as an even wilder version of him, but they blew that chance.

by Anonymousreply 367January 22, 2022 9:26 AM

I forgot Nate even had a brother!

The nudity thing is so weird to me. I was recently watching am episode of Emily in Paris, and in one scene at a hammam, Lilly Collins (the star) was the only one not showing her breasts. So far in Euphoria, Zendaya, an EP, goes through great lengths not to show her tits.

If finding excuses to get women naked isn't exploitative, the lead actresses should be down with the cause. But they know exactly what's going on---as they act like Times Up acolytes.

by Anonymousreply 368January 22, 2022 10:34 AM

Didn't Hunter expose her breast(s), as it were, in season 1? I thought it was early on and meant to establish for anyone who was still in doubt as to her nature. The show seems to be egalitarian wrt male and female nudity. But Sweeney might have a valid complaint, you don't see Maude Apatow baring all. yet.

by Anonymousreply 369January 22, 2022 11:23 AM

The show is a bit gratuitous in its nudity, particularly when these are supposed to be underage high schoolers. It’d make more sense if they were at least in college. The storylines would maybe be a bit more appropriate too. I really liked the first season, but what I’m starting to feel is that it’s a bunch of backstories that aren’t really moving forward.

by Anonymousreply 370January 22, 2022 12:38 PM

R379 that’s a huge complaint about the show from not only parents, but on TikTok many young people feel having them be minors vs college students romanticizes what is happening on the show and is promoting child porn.

The lead always get a lot of say when they’re a big star. Zendaya doesn’t do nudity because she is Zendaya and doesn’t have to. It was placed in her contract. Same with Lily Collins or SJP. In SATC she’s the only one who never did nudity. Whether you like it or not, it’s common.

Jacob isn’t the male lead. The show only has one lead, and that’s Zendaya. Every other character is supporting.

by Anonymousreply 371January 22, 2022 1:01 PM

Jacob wasn't a star when he got the part in Euphoria. He was just the pretty guy from The Kissing Booth.

I think it's unfortunate when stars do the whole "I don't do nudity!". They are the ones who could actually make sure it remains appropriate for the scene without becoming exploitive (oh look! Big star gets naked, now you really must watch this!).

by Anonymousreply 372January 22, 2022 1:12 PM

I don’t get the complaint from someone upthread that Nate’s brother should have been younger. Nate being the younger brother seems way more appropriate based on his personality. His brother was never meant to be a character on the show. You see him because the show gives each character a backstory.

Also, in the family photos you see they have a 3rd child who is younger than Nate. The show has yet to mention what happened to the 3rd boy but I think we will find out one day. Nate is the middle child. Many TikTokers have theories that the third kid is dead (and that psycho Nate killed him and the parents covered for Nate) or that Ashtray is the kid and the mother is head of the drug cartel now.

by Anonymousreply 373January 22, 2022 1:12 PM

R372 it’s common for those shows to cast mostly unknowns around their lead, unless they decide to make everyone an unknown. But in this case, this show was a vehicle for Zendaya.

by Anonymousreply 374January 22, 2022 1:15 PM

Hmmmm I didn’t notice the 3rd brother. Nice find. What happened to the 3rd brother? I’m certain that will be a story that unfolds eventually, or at least I hope that they don’t just ignore it forever.

by Anonymousreply 376January 22, 2022 8:36 PM

The issue with this show is that Sam Levinson is the shows ONLY writer. In ways the show benefits from that but in others it doesn’t.

During the first season he began finding the actors to play those characters as he wrote and let them have a bit of influence over some storylines but now he is only listening to Z and supposedly his little pet Jacob and everyone else is getting mad because they feel he’s fucking up the vibe and their characters and more worried with shock value than story telling for season 2.

by Anonymousreply 377January 22, 2022 9:11 PM

Well they are actors, not writers, their job is to perform what is written for them r377 and they should be very thankful for this job. Allowing actors to dictate what happens to their character is rarely a good idea.

by Anonymousreply 378January 22, 2022 10:06 PM

R378 sweetie, maybe that’s why season 2 is seen as not as good as the first so far and just an exploitative show relying on shock value. Season 1 most found interesting and captivating. The actors are allowed to take issue with the writing for their characters.

by Anonymousreply 379January 22, 2022 10:09 PM

...it's been two episodes? I thought the premiere was really good, though ep 2 wasn't as good. So far I am not seeing any drop in quality from Season 1 which wasn't perfect either. We will see.

by Anonymousreply 380January 22, 2022 10:18 PM

I think the biggest issue is the amount of sex and nudity the show has in general, but it feels even more aggressive this season. This is where the show is being criticized.

The Kat character DOES feel different this season.

by Anonymousreply 381January 22, 2022 10:25 PM

Most of the casts main issue with season 2 is how dark things get. Levinson said this season gets very dark as it plays out and many of the actors don’t like how dark things get for their characters and the stories. They feel he should have kept things like season 1, dark with a small mix of humor.

However, while filming an episode him and the actress who plays Kat got into a heated argument about her character and she walked off set. He then cut a bunch of her lines and had to quickly change some things and cute her role down for the rest of the season, didn’t put her in the main trailer and she didn’t even show up for the premiere. Who knows if this will be a Dianna Agron/Ryan Murphy situation where he now fucks her over

by Anonymousreply 382January 22, 2022 10:37 PM

Darren Criss said the reason him and Murphy didn't have drama is Darren never complained about his storyline, he got his scripts and did his job.

Walking off set and refusing to finish filming the scene seems over overdramatic and unprofessional to me. Don't know the context but does she expect to get opportunities if she has a reputation for being difficult to work with.

by Anonymousreply 383January 22, 2022 10:47 PM

[quote]The show is a bit gratuitous in its nudity, particularly when these are supposed to be underage high schoolers.

I thought that too, but look at Normal People and how much graphic sex/nudity that had. Pus, when you eliminate the graphic nudity & drug use, it's kind of your average school about high schoolers/young adults. Pretty girls with low self-esteem, fat girls finding to find an identity, cool jock with all kinds of problems, nerd with a heart of gold - all that. And of course the novelty of trans character as the pixie dream girl character

Not sure about the Kat character, but being an unknown actress challenging a director on hit HBO show seems a bit...presumptuous. No one on that show is any great thespian, so they better keep the paychecks rolling while they can. Ask the cast of Glee about how their careers are going these days.

by Anonymousreply 384January 23, 2022 6:24 PM

“Cool jock”? Nate is anything but “cool”.

by Anonymousreply 385January 23, 2022 6:35 PM

Nate is the opposite of cool. He’s one of the biggest pieces of shit I’ve ever seen on a show. I am watching season 1 and I want someone to stab him. I’ve never wanted to see someone get murdered so bad.

by Anonymousreply 386January 23, 2022 7:37 PM

I really hope this show doesn't blow it in its second season. It's only been two episodes, but the feel of the show does seem different.

by Anonymousreply 387January 23, 2022 7:55 PM

R387 I agree, and supposedly it only gets darker with supposedly someone getting kidnapped and someone else is getting killed off (I assume Fez is because he was originally supposed to in season 1).

by Anonymousreply 388January 23, 2022 8:09 PM

I thought Nate's Dad was just paying for his gum or whatever... did I miss something?

by Anonymousreply 389January 23, 2022 8:46 PM

Yes, he only left a 20-dollar bill on the counter. Though why he didn't wait for his change is mystery. A HUGE mystery.

by Anonymousreply 390January 23, 2022 9:02 PM

He’s rich.

by Anonymousreply 391January 23, 2022 9:06 PM

The idea that there was no serious reckoning for Nate's Dad in season 1 is sort of remarkable for "television". I mean he's having sex with minors right - it's not just a matter of prostitution. In the world of serial dramas that's way worse than getting away with murder. Much unfinished business for season 2.

by Anonymousreply 392January 23, 2022 11:00 PM

Worse than murder r392? He wasn't fucking kids, these were all teenagers. In a different state where the age of consent was 16 it wouldn't have been illegal.

by Anonymousreply 393January 23, 2022 11:04 PM

R393 you need serious help.

by Anonymousreply 394January 23, 2022 11:06 PM

The show takes place in California, where the age of consent is 18, and why Cal was so terrified Jules would (and could) ruin his life.

by Anonymousreply 395January 23, 2022 11:10 PM

I don’t like this season at all. Sam Levinson - rich Hollywood brat and son of Barry Levinson - really seems to get off on showing these drug dealers and drug use and showing all these high schoolers fucking with Sydney Sweeney’s boobs constantly out. And has that 10 year old child as one of the drug dealers.

The whole thing is perverse and I bet he’s completely insufferable.

by Anonymousreply 396January 23, 2022 11:11 PM

Take a xanax r394, I think an adult fucking high schoolers is gross, but you are drama queen that compared it murder which is absurd.

by Anonymousreply 397January 23, 2022 11:14 PM

And even if the age of consent is 15 or 16, morally you don’t see the issue? Give me a break. That’s just wrong.

by Anonymousreply 398January 23, 2022 11:15 PM

Either way R398, it's gross.

by Anonymousreply 399January 23, 2022 11:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 402January 23, 2022 11:37 PM

Or maybe he’s secretly an asshole or something else.

by Anonymousreply 403January 23, 2022 11:44 PM

[quote] Worse than murder

Oh jeez, I said "in the world or serial dramas", and on "television", where characters get away with murder ALL THE TIME! I wasn't commenting on the severity of his crimes IRL. Read the fucking post.

by Anonymousreply 404January 23, 2022 11:45 PM

As for the show, I am on episode 8 of season 1 and that guy who really likes Kat but she’s awful to him because she thought he was flirting with that hot blonde chick at the carnival is so cute. I get sooooo upset with Kat every time she’s a bitch to him. He’s so sweet to her. Now she’s apologizing and I’m happy she is but I wish he would tell her to fuck herself because she was such a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 405January 23, 2022 11:46 PM

There’s a scene in season 1 where Nate has a meltdown and tries to fight his father, and that scene absolutely moved me. Nate and his father have such a tumultuous relationship, and seem to resent one another as well as have hatred for one another. You can tell Nate blames his father and him being exposed to so much from a young age for how fucked up and confused he is in the head, and Cal has a hatred for his son but I’m not 100% sure why yet, but you can tell he also fears him a bit.

Both actors knocked it out of the park in this scene but Elordi was tremendous, and I found it heartbreaking. Don’t get me wrong, Nate is evil and I wanna see him get stabbed, but this scene was heartbreaking to me. His reaction felt so real and sincere. And sad.

by Anonymousreply 406January 24, 2022 12:11 AM

The fact Cal is scared of Nate shows just how fucked up Nate really is, and Cal knows he created a MONSTER he has no control of.

by Anonymousreply 407January 24, 2022 12:22 AM

[quote] I’m not 100% sure why

They hate each other because not-so-subconsciously they want to fuck.

by Anonymousreply 408January 24, 2022 12:27 AM

R408 I don’t get that impression at all. There’s a lot of deep rooted trauma there and anger. I don’t think Nate wants his father at all, and he doesn’t seem into men as much as the tranny, who looks like a chick but has a Dick.

Cal knows he created a monster.

Nate really lost it after seeing his own reflection being held down. I feel seeing himself be so helpless with no control really made him lose it.

by Anonymousreply 409January 24, 2022 12:36 AM

There’s so much more to it all. We are forgetting that before Nate’s meltdown he couldn’t get hard while trying to fuck Maddie, which led to her asking if he maybe is bi or gay. He was already upset he couldn’t get hard but that made him even more angry, grabbing her by her face. He goes into the bathroom, she takes the disc she sees and tries sneaking out quietly when Cal comes out of his room to tell her that Nate and her need to end things, they’re no good for one another and are wasting each other’s time. She leaves, Cal goes into Nate’s room to tell him what he did, and Nate tries to fight him. Not because of what he said, but because Nate blames his father for him being such a mess when it comes to his sexuality etc. Nate not being able to get it hard for Maddie is what set him off with Cal.

by Anonymousreply 410January 24, 2022 12:41 AM

He looked like one of Cal's conquests from the videos.

by Anonymousreply 411January 24, 2022 12:53 AM

I think Levinson casting a porn whore in season 2 adds to the point that he’s trying way too hard.

There was a viral video on TikTok of people upset that Angus Cloud is the only actor from the show who follows her on social media. None of the others do.

by Anonymousreply 412January 24, 2022 1:40 AM

I really loved the first season but watching episode 1 of season 2 - I was like why the fuck did I like this show? As soon as Zendaya’s narration started about how the drug dealer’s grandma was a real badass motherfucker…. Ugh. And the boobs. I’m surprised Sydney Sweeney is cool with this level of nudity. She’s a solid actress and is up-and-coming and this feels like Cinemax level titty shit. At one point Elordi was sucking on her nipple. And why? We know her character is hot and slutty. We don’t need to see her riding him with her tits out so much.

Granted this is coming from a gay man lol. I’m sure the straight audience loves the nudity.

by Anonymousreply 413January 24, 2022 1:52 AM

Sydney Sweeney says she didnt mind the nudity at all, but now she is upset that is all people want to talk about. It's weird, she got naked in Season 1 too but people can't seem to get past it in this season. I guess because it happened in two episodes in a row.

by Anonymousreply 414January 24, 2022 1:58 AM

R414 we saw her tits about 3 times total throughout all of season 1. We’ve seen about that much already in 2 episodes for season 2.

It’s not that her tits are out, it’s that they’re always out now. It feels exploitative, just like the ridiculous amounts of cock shots, and I’m gay. It feels like Levison is trying to be shocking and it’s coming off bad now.

R413 I just rewatched season 1 and it’s terrific. I get why I liked it. I didn’t like the first 20-30 minutes of episode 1 of season 2 but once they get to the party I didn’t mind it.

I don’t like Cassie and Nate as a couple though.

by Anonymousreply 415January 24, 2022 2:05 AM

Another dick and man-ass heavy episode. I’m not complaining, but it’s becoming less of a treat.

by Anonymousreply 416January 24, 2022 2:06 AM

is Cal gay or bi?

by Anonymousreply 417January 24, 2022 2:08 AM

R417, episode 417 implies he’s bi, leaning gay.

by Anonymousreply 418January 24, 2022 2:10 AM

Cal is bi but leans more toward gay. He likes to fuck teenage boys.

by Anonymousreply 419January 24, 2022 2:11 AM

I will say this episode made me a little emotional. In 2000 I was dating my first boyfriend and I bought a used copy of INX’s Kick during our 2nd date. Hearing heavy usage of Mystify and Never Tear Is Apart during scenes of 2 guys in love brought back memories.

by Anonymousreply 420January 24, 2022 2:17 AM

Season 2 isn’t bad, it’s just missing that magic season 1 had. I guess that’s something hard to capture more than once. Season 1 felt unique and was incredibly atmospheric and moody and colorful, with high quality artistic expression.

Season 2 feels pornographic almost. It doesn’t have that ambience and color scheme and art that the first one had. This one is relying on shock value. It’s taking everything that surprised people in season 1 (like showing cock etc) and doing it 10x as much. The issue is when you do that it is no longer shocking or even a talking point. It becomes boring and gratuitous.

by Anonymousreply 421January 24, 2022 2:25 AM

Agreed, R421.

by Anonymousreply 422January 24, 2022 2:31 AM

IF they want to show cock, why don't they hire any of those Sean Cody, Corbin Fisher, or Next Door guys to be naked in the background or do stunt-cock shots.

by Anonymousreply 423January 24, 2022 2:49 AM

Ummmm why r423?

by Anonymousreply 424January 24, 2022 2:52 AM

Is Rue being omniscient narrator the clue that she’s really dead and telling all of this from the great beyond which is how the show will end?

by Anonymousreply 425January 24, 2022 2:57 AM

My college students all know about this show, although it seems about 90% of the ones who watch it hatewatch it.

by Anonymousreply 426January 24, 2022 2:59 AM

Was that Jo Stafford singing at the final scene?

by Anonymousreply 427January 24, 2022 3:01 AM

Well people have been throwing that around since that was the ending to the Israeli show r425, though they are very different things.

by Anonymousreply 428January 24, 2022 3:02 AM

What r428 said. This has been speculated since the season 1 was airing. I don’t think they’re gonna give this one the same exact ending as the original show though, or put their own twist on it.

by Anonymousreply 429January 24, 2022 3:06 AM

I dunno, I loved the opening sequence... with Cal and Derrick and the latent homosexuality and the wrestling and locker rooms and sexual explorations and stuff. And the music. The gay bar. The crushing on a best friend thing. It's kind of relatable. Fucked up, but relatable. And nice to see they didn't shy away from showing the naked guys every bit as much as the naked girls. And the two guys they got to play them were fucking HOT.

by Anonymousreply 430January 24, 2022 3:14 AM

At first I was confused on the Cal flashback because there is no way Cal is meant to be 18 years older than Nate, but I forgot there is an older brother. Many closeted gay boys in high school were in love with their friends, but it rarely works out so you actually get to sleep with them. Though I get they needed that perfect happiness so the pregnancy was more crushing.

by Anonymousreply 431January 24, 2022 3:16 AM

It's time for Cassie to find a new boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 432January 24, 2022 3:18 AM

I don’t like Cassie and Nate as a couple. At least Maddie kept him on his toes and challenged him. He likes Cassie because she’s a doormat.

by Anonymousreply 433January 24, 2022 3:20 AM

I think Jules is still my favorite character. The most interesting to watch.

by Anonymousreply 434January 24, 2022 4:00 AM

Rue is digging herself into some deep shit.

A genius she's not.

by Anonymousreply 435January 24, 2022 4:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 436January 24, 2022 4:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 437January 24, 2022 4:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 438January 24, 2022 5:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 439January 24, 2022 5:36 AM

The Cal flashback was way too short.

No way does Rue's plan not blow up in her face. It will probably end with Fez having to step in and save her, which could lead to his death.

The fourth wall-breaking for Lexi's play was well done, as was the callback to the dick pic slideshow from season one.

Storm Reid, who plays Rue's sister, Gia, has noticeably aged in between seasons. She almost looks older than Zendaya.

This season does seem to be lacking the same spark that season one had. It isn't bad so far. But none of the plot threads established seem like they won't get really dark.

by Anonymousreply 440January 24, 2022 7:56 AM

Am I the only one who thinks young Marsha strongly resembles Lexi?

by Anonymousreply 441January 24, 2022 8:53 AM

The Cal backstory sequence was so well done in terms of visuals and tone. It really captured the early 90s without leaning on too many cheesy 90s tropes. It was like a gay male version of Aerosmith’s ‘Crazy’ video with Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler. A real vibrant and sexy rush. The music was perfect too. This show just really knows how to convey a mood and a vibe. I’m loving season 2 as much as season 1.

by Anonymousreply 442January 24, 2022 9:09 AM

Cal’s friend Derek looks like a young Brad Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 443January 24, 2022 9:34 AM

Derek captured the perfect Abercrombie and Fitch aesthetic of the time period, I kept waiting for Bruce Weber to step out of the shadows and offer him a modeling contract.

by Anonymousreply 444January 24, 2022 9:52 AM

R441 I second you. Are we supposed to believe she grew up into Paula Marshall? Also, interesting how, thus far, Marshall hasn't been given much to do. She had a lot of major roles dating back 10/20 years ago including Sienfeld, Californication, she was all over the place.

by Anonymousreply 445January 24, 2022 10:01 AM

Dear Lord. Each main character gets a backstory. And it’s always around 10 minutes. It’s not that serious. Suddenly demanding it be longer because it’s a gay relationship now is ridiculous.

Acting like you’ve never seen a gay love story. It’s not the 90s. It’s 2022.

by Anonymousreply 446January 24, 2022 10:04 AM

The actress who plays Kat looks like she gained weight. Either that or they put her in a very unfortunate outfit for the dinner scene. I also don't see the character ever agreeing to meet his parents.

Zendaya as Rue is quickly becoming tiresome. Shooting for a second Emmy is going to ruin this character. Careful not to wander into Billy Porter territory.

by Anonymousreply 447January 24, 2022 10:46 AM

Where the fuck does Jules (dumbest name ever) get off being jealous? She was hooking up with other people, too.

What was the big deal over Cal getting up out of bed in front of his dad?

by Anonymousreply 448January 24, 2022 10:53 AM

R448 I took it that he had a raging boner from being beside Derek and it would have been obvious to his Dad what was going on. Think Timmy in CMBYN when Oliver comes and gets him for the swim.

by Anonymousreply 449January 24, 2022 10:58 AM

Episode 3 gave me my first genuine laugh in an episode of Euphoria: The moment Nate finally acknowledges Cassie, and she ends up walking alongside Maddie...revealing the 2 are dressed and styled the exact same way.

As usual, Zendaya hamming it up was the lowlight of the episode. Maybe it's because she didn't have a normal teenage experience, but she acts like a parody of a high-schooler. Even Jacob Elordi, an Australian is more authentic...

Meanwhile the Young Cal, Lexi, and Cassie scenes were the best. As much as I hate nepotism, Maude Apatow has grown on me.

by Anonymousreply 450January 24, 2022 11:35 AM

The Cal backstory was hot. I needed more.

I can’t keep watching Nate have sex. He’s an animal and it is painful how hot he is.

Rue, as much as I loved her in season one, is getting tiresome. Very tiresome. Zendaya is not beautiful. She’s not ugly, though. I am not enjoying Jules like I did season one. The show has lost its spark a tad. I think Ashtray will die. He is growing too fast. I’m over the fat girl right now. I really like Fez and Ashtray. Get rid of that boring bitch with them. She’ll fuck Ashtray.

by Anonymousreply 451January 24, 2022 11:52 AM

I didn’t need the extended pussy eating scene.

Why are they hell bent on showing these closet gay/bi guys having and loving hetero sex so much?

by Anonymousreply 452January 24, 2022 12:05 PM

I thought it was interesting when Fez told Cal that he and Nate are both in love with Jules. The juxtaposition of Jules and Cassie in the fantasy marriage scene he had - was he seeing something in Cassie that reminded him of Jules?

by Anonymousreply 453January 24, 2022 12:44 PM

Ummmm Zendaya is barely hamming it up. And she didn’t ham it up in season 1. She’s playing a teenage girl addicted to hardcore drugs. Not really your average teen.

Nate is a psychopath and sociopath. I’m sick of people on here speaking of him like he’s normal.

by Anonymousreply 454January 24, 2022 1:13 PM

R453 Idk. They’re both deer-in-headlight blondes.

by Anonymousreply 455January 24, 2022 1:13 PM

Nate wants Jules and is trying to project his feelings for her onto Cassie, who he also feels has some of the same qualities Jules has.

Jules is real name, for the person who said it’s a stupid name.

Cal didn’t wanna get out of bed in front of his dad because he’s secretly gay in the 90s and had an erection. He didn’t want his father to find out.

by Anonymousreply 456January 24, 2022 1:17 PM

I think we are supposed to find Rue tiresome. The show doesn’t try to make us like her. One thing the show gets right is making us feel how many people dealing with addicts feel, frustrated, annoyed, tired of the persons shit, etc.

Also, Zendaya is an attractive girl. Again, she’s playing a DRUG ADDICT and they make her look as such. It’s like you’re not watching the show and seeing her shoot heroine and shit…

by Anonymousreply 457January 24, 2022 1:19 PM

I agree that the show doesn’t have the same spark the first one did, but let’s be honest, how many shows that start off very strong and feel “special” are able to keep that feeling and recreate that same magic a second time? Even shows that have a good second season, the show never feels “as good” as that glorious first season.

That’s one positive about having a successful show where the quality isn’t so high, it’s easy to maintain that same product or make it better. It’s hard to do that when the show starts off so great. Everything gelled beautifully in season 1.

On top of that, it doesn’t help that there was 3 years in between filming each season.

by Anonymousreply 458January 24, 2022 1:27 PM

R406 that scene IS sad. Nate is truly a lost cause and there is no fixing that at this point.

R458 you’re right, and there are many shows one can use as an example of having an amazing first season and even if the next seasons were good, they never had that same spark or charm or magic the first one did. This Is Us comes to mind as a recent one. I found season 2 good but that first season felt special.

by Anonymousreply 459January 24, 2022 1:29 PM

[Quote]Cal didn’t wanna get out of bed in front of his dad because he’s secretly gay in the 90s and had an erection. He didn’t want his father to find out.

I'd say his father definitely knew Cal was into his friend and had a boner. The way he asked him to get up right away, he clearly knew the score.

by Anonymousreply 460January 24, 2022 1:45 PM

For those talking about the spark, the show runner decided to abandon some of the visuals, including things like glitter and colors, used in S1. He said he wanted a new grounded visual which is why they went with film. Over on the Euphoria reddit pages, the fans (myself included) were concerned with the loss of the ascetics; think of the Funhouse Carnival episode from S1 as a perfect example. Sam, wanted a new direction which is why they are shooting on film and color wise appear to be acting like it's a mid-90s show.

Honestly, I sort of life that they are changing things up. I loved S1 with the glitter and blue undertones, but it's been 2 years so a change isn't that bad. The show feels like it's settling into a comfortable HBO groove and grittiness.

The one things I will say about S2, is that we haven't had a moment to breath, beyond Lexi's movie fantasy. That was fun and light hearted. Everything has been so so dark or just go-go-go. No complaints on my end, but all the actors keep saying how dark things get, so I'm preparing for the worst. I think i know what's being setup but I'm not going to play the spoilers game.

by Anonymousreply 461January 24, 2022 3:32 PM

like* not life ^

by Anonymousreply 462January 24, 2022 3:32 PM

Cassie was auditioning for Ado Annie in Oklahoma despite her protests right?

by Anonymousreply 463January 24, 2022 3:36 PM

Cal backstory. I had an evening to think it over. While I loved it, I'm also a tad disappointed and hope they dive more into his past. That backstory left a lot to be desired.

Cal and his wife didn't grow up in CA. The montage says his best friend was going to school out west. So how or why did they end up in California. Was he chasing after his friend and having a secrete affair?

Did Cal even go to Duke? Sucks to give up such a good school for some high school pussy.

Why wasn't an abortion mentioned?

Also, I loved both hot actors, but did anyone else have an issue telling young cal apart from his friend in some scenes. I was like, who is who again?

by Anonymousreply 464January 24, 2022 3:37 PM

r463 haha, no, she's just gasping at straws by trying out various styles to see what gets Nate's attention. At that stage, she went for a big hair Texas gal, or hilariously being confused with auditioning for Oklahoma! That was sending me.

Maddy literally has the best comebacks or lines. She's the funniest character on this show.

by Anonymousreply 465January 24, 2022 3:40 PM

The young Cal and boyfriend story line was the best part of the show. I'd like to see a reunion now that they're adults.

by Anonymousreply 466January 24, 2022 3:43 PM

R464 Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering why a California guy would go to Duke. But if Derek went out west, does that mean the draw for Cal to come west was him? This does upend some of my backstory for Cal, I assumed the building business was handed down through the family, even him ending up in it was because he knocked up his girlfriend and had to reluctantly join the family business instead of going to college. Also, this confuses Cal’s intense commitment to football in this town if he didn’t grow up there playing sports for that high school? Even the chili bake-off seemed more like a long family tradition that would predate their arrival in town. Maybe it’s just all part of the facade he’s built as a kind of pillar of the community, despite really being in the deep, dirty, perverse underside of it.

by Anonymousreply 467January 24, 2022 3:47 PM

Omg all the backstories leave a lot to be desired. You are fixated on Cal’s because it’s a “gay” one but he isn’t getting special treatment over the shows main cast, the young people. Be thankful they decided to give him a backstory.

by Anonymousreply 468January 24, 2022 3:50 PM

The show feels different beyond the makeup and color palette used. That wasn’t the only positive thing. If just feels darker and moving fast.

by Anonymousreply 469January 24, 2022 3:50 PM

[quote]Meanwhile the Young Cal, Lexi, and Cassie scenes were the best. As much as I hate nepotism, Maude Apatow has grown on me.

Agreed; she's pretty, but kind of blank, which works for the character, though the writers should've made her Cassie's half or stepsister as they looking *nothing* alike

by Anonymousreply 470January 24, 2022 4:05 PM

Maybe there's a sense of urgency because they want to cover a lot of ground in season 2 to make up for the unexpected hiatus between the first and second seasons and ensure they get to tell some of the stories they want to tell in case production gets halted and delayed again.

Cal wasn't the only one with an erection in that scene. Derek had one as well the way he sort of half hunched his way out of the room with his bag covering his crotch.

by Anonymousreply 471January 24, 2022 4:06 PM

[quote]What was the big deal over Cal getting up out of bed in front of his dad?

I cannot believe that a male asked this question, because it was both obvious AND a universal male experience.

by Anonymousreply 472January 24, 2022 4:08 PM

I was thinking the same r464 and r467.

Given the "outwest" comment we know Cal didn't grow up in California, so did he try to follow Derek to California? I mean it doesn't seem to be an accident they told us that is where Derek was going to college. Adds another layer of tragedy if Cal tried in vain to follow him.

by Anonymousreply 473January 24, 2022 4:21 PM

R472 agreed. Any man can relate to getting an erection at the worst times while young.

And to the person upthread, I think you can tell his father had a suspicion his son was attracted to Derek but he had no confirmation. That’s the case with many parents.

by Anonymousreply 474January 24, 2022 4:34 PM

Y’all do realize sometimes fill siblings look nothing alike, right?

by Anonymousreply 475January 24, 2022 4:44 PM

Yeah, those excessive nudities are not really relevant to the story but we don't mind. lol

by Anonymousreply 476January 24, 2022 5:03 PM

Derek and Cal had California license plates just saying

by Anonymousreply 477January 24, 2022 6:03 PM

the young cal and friend kiss scene was very cute but there was a complete disconnect between present day Cal for the obvious reasons. Still don't feel sorry for him. He's a piece of shit pedo weird. (he would fit right in on DL) This was probably the best episode yet.

by Anonymousreply 478January 24, 2022 6:10 PM

The scene where the dad told Cal to get up off the bed made me laugh. I remember having to tuck my dick in the waistband of my underwear in high school, just because I'd suddenly get erections in class! I immediately understood the purpose of that scene.

by Anonymousreply 479January 24, 2022 6:11 PM

I know r477, their scenes were so obviously filmed in California but based on dialogue we are supposed to pretend it wasn't. No one in California would say they are going to school "out west". Lol, they going to Hawaii?

by Anonymousreply 480January 24, 2022 6:12 PM

Yeah, the scenes were definitely filmed in and looked like California (I think some of the suburban scenes were filmed in the San Fernando Valley and possibly Encino specifically). Unless it's supposed to take place somewhere inland in the state and they mean Derek went somewhere "out West" as in closer to the ocean? It was weird that they were trying to pass it off as if they weren't already in California.

by Anonymousreply 481January 24, 2022 6:12 PM

r467 he could have been playing football and wrestling but excelled at wrestling. I think there are holes in the story, unless out west meant they lived in East CA, but I still don't think a single CA resident would call moving to the coast, out west since the entire state is considered the west. I'm going to assume Cal and his wife are from Ohio. But, the flashback spent too much time building up the obvious, and not exploring what happened next. I checked IMBD, the younger Cal and friend are only in 1 episode so no more flashbacks.

Still, a nice start and sexy nudity, but Sam (writer/show-runner) didn't connect the dots from repressed bisexual Cal and recording guys via rough sex Cal.

I agree, why didn't he push Nate to wrestle?

by Anonymousreply 482January 24, 2022 6:19 PM

Never mind, my statement was already made by other posters and someone clocked CA plates. Still, how did Cal get to the point of filming conquests with ugly ass men and beautiful trans like Jules?

by Anonymousreply 483January 24, 2022 6:23 PM

R483 don’t they live in a small suburb , not far outside of the city? He probably takes what he can get as long as they’re young.

by Anonymousreply 484January 24, 2022 6:29 PM

Looks like a big suburb, but a guy as wealthy and hot as Cal could has tons of options to scratch that itch, he seemed to have chose the most destructive option.

by Anonymousreply 485January 24, 2022 6:31 PM

Now I am wondering if we know for sure Euphoria takes place in California. It is so very obviously filmed in California most people have assumed that, but I don't recall any actual references to a firm location.

by Anonymousreply 486January 24, 2022 6:33 PM

It would be interesting if they turned out to live in West Covina in a parallel world with Crazy Ex Girlfriend and Rachel Bloom shows up at some point singing a wacky song.

by Anonymousreply 487January 24, 2022 6:37 PM

Lol, the call the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance a “luxury shopping center.” It’s been decades, but it was a dump and about as mainstream as you can get when I was last there.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 488January 24, 2022 6:46 PM

The show never states where they all live but I read someone say it’s a suburb in California, but it’s never disclosed where in California.

PS “Out West” doesn’t mean he is not in California. I’ve met people who will say “out west” because they live in East of that same state.

by Anonymousreply 489January 24, 2022 6:50 PM

Young Cal is so freaking hot.

by Anonymousreply 490January 24, 2022 6:51 PM

Finally some gay content. The show would have been better if it had a regular gay character, one who is normal. Not like Cal, a villain. But I did enjoy the few gay scenes we did get. They were very cute. It's obvious Cal is bisexual while his boyfriend is gay. When he said he didn't like eating pussy I was like... yup, definitely gay. He was also the one to take Cal to a gay bar in the first place. His girlfriend was probably just a beard, unlike Cal's.

by Anonymousreply 491January 24, 2022 6:55 PM

It's hard to imagine that young Cal would have turned into the more grizzled, yet still sexy older Cal (Eric Dane). It was an odd choice of an actor to play a young Eric Dane, but it kind of makes sense because he looks more like Nate (Jacob Elordi), so what they lost in terms of accurate resemblance to Eric Dane, they kind of made up for in explaining him to be Nate's father.

by Anonymousreply 492January 24, 2022 6:55 PM

Anyone else think that Nate only likes Cassie because she’s easy for him to control? We see throughout season 1 that Nate is a young man who MUST BE in full control at all times, and not just in control of situations but of people etc. too.

He can’t control Maddie, and I think that’s his biggest issue with her.

Add on that he seems to be projecting his feelings for Jules onto Cassie.

by Anonymousreply 493January 24, 2022 6:55 PM

r489 that still seems odd to me. Like someone in TX saying they are going to school out east or west (depending on their location) when a local would just say in Dallas, Houston, etc. Like in IL, downstate folks don't say, "Such and such is going to school up north." "Where?" "Oh, Chicago..." Like no, you'd just say the or upstate. A person would say you are going to school up north when they mean Tallahassee. The "out" part typically means out of a state in America, likely out of an entire region.

But, I'm gonna stop cause it's just a TV show, but they really flubbed some parts of a rather generic back story.

by Anonymousreply 494January 24, 2022 6:58 PM

R492 but some people do look different and unrecognizable as they get older.

However, I disagree about him not looking like Eric Dane. They have similar eyes. That’s where I saw a resemblance.

As for body hair, I was pretty smooth still in HS (no chest hair) but now I have a lot in my 30s.

by Anonymousreply 495January 24, 2022 6:58 PM

I was thinking how much better this show would be if one of the main characters was a gay guy instead of a trans. I mean... that new guy is at least bi, but we won't see any of his bi (as in gay) side, because he will hook up with the trans person. It's obvious already.

by Anonymousreply 496January 24, 2022 7:00 PM

r495 they actor had body hair as we could see in the final scene before he cries. Rule number 1, never fuck a religious girl unwilling to even consider an abortion.

by Anonymousreply 497January 24, 2022 7:00 PM

I think part of why Cal’s backstory seemed “better” than the others is because he’s a middle aged man in modern day and his backstory had him As a teen. The teens are teens in modern day so their backstories are about them as kids. I think that’s why his was more interesting, outside of the gay thing.

His backstory was also more about him because he was older already vs the kids where we learn a lot about their families too because they were just kids.

by Anonymousreply 498January 24, 2022 7:01 PM

R497 I don’t think she needs to be religious to not want an abortion in the 90s. I think most people, even many liberals then, looked down upon it.

by Anonymousreply 499January 24, 2022 7:02 PM

Please, abortion is actually more common for white upper middle class suburbanites in these situations than for the poor white teen mothers. These kids look like middle to upper middle class kids. Statistically, she would also be on the college track which is why an abortion would have been more likely, unless she was religious. It was the 90s not the 1950s.

by Anonymousreply 500January 24, 2022 7:08 PM

R500 your statistics are very off buddy. The 90s were still a pretty evangelical time.

by Anonymousreply 501January 24, 2022 7:10 PM

The backstory scenes weren't just remarkable because they were gay (and frankly, showed a very nearly universal experience for a lot of gay high school guys of the time), but because it was so well done. Some brilliant story-telling there, the visuals, the style, the MUSIC... it was great. The quality was stand-out in every way.

by Anonymousreply 502January 24, 2022 7:10 PM

I don’t like the way the McKay character is treated by Mr. Levinson. In season 1 he finds out Cassie is pregnant and wants her to get an abortion. That’s episode 6. We don’t see him again until the season 2 premiere. He wasn’t even in the finale.

And he was only in the premiere briefly. No wonder the actor supposedly quit.

by Anonymousreply 503January 24, 2022 7:12 PM

Even Eric Dane said he was surprised when he saw who they cast as Young Cal. Elias Kacavas is hot, but he doesn't look like a young Eric Dane.

[Quote]He was terrific,” Dane said, though he admits he didn’t understand the casting choice at first. “At first glance, I was like, That’s young Cal?

Mystify is one of the most underrated songs in the INXS catalogue. Loved how it was used in the episode.

Most of these shows don’t cast people who actually look like the older actor. Watch This Is Us. None of the Randall’s or Kevin’s look alike.

Just because Derek drunkenly hooked up with Cal does not mean Derek was ready to go skipping arm and arm and being an open couple with Cal. How many of us have hooked up with a guy that wants it to be kept a secret. Noticed that showed Cal alone in bed, not with Derek.

I'm not sure they would have ended up happily ever after. However it was the push Cal needed to admit his sexuality...had it not been for the pregnancy.

by Anonymousreply 509January 24, 2022 7:28 PM

It was the 90s. They would have still remained closeted most likely. Even in LA or NY.

by Anonymousreply 510January 24, 2022 7:53 PM

It’s said that Marsha made Cal uncomfortable at times but he was thankful that she got him to push his boundaries and that she was the most forward girl he’d ever met. She’s the one who initiated sex between them etc.

I doubt she was some “religious” girl.

by Anonymousreply 511January 24, 2022 8:10 PM

Anyone else notice Derek staring down Marsha as he walks out for wrestling practice after Cal tells Derek how much he loves eating out Marsha’s snatch? Marsha notices too and is looking at him confused as he stares her down 😂

It might be a stretch to find an actor the right age, willing to do full frontal nudity and make-out/sex scenes with both men and women, who ALSO looks like a young Eric Dane. I mean... such a person MIGHT exist, but that might be one requirement too far...

by Anonymousreply 515January 24, 2022 10:46 PM

I wish the girls would stop wearing that eye glitter. It's so unattractive.

by Anonymousreply 517January 24, 2022 11:17 PM

The mother was literally a younger version of Maddy. Cal was smart, hot, popular, and going places. She got her claws into him and got pregnant. I think the baby was a mistake, but I don't think she much minded. He threw away Duke for her and their kid. Despite that hardship, they are worth millions and he owns a successful construction company.

One glaring difference is that he was so bright and happy. The Cal we meet as an adult is so stilted as if he's living through long-term depression.

by Anonymousreply 518January 24, 2022 11:39 PM

To be fair, it’s easy to be bright and happy when you’re a teenager. And it’s easy to be stilted in your 40s/50s, after experiencing life.

by Anonymousreply 519January 24, 2022 11:41 PM

I don't understand why they sat in their kitchen listening to their son fuck upstairs. That is very weird. Same thing happened in And Just Like That. Is this a new parting phenomenon to allow sons to just fuck and fuck and fuck while parents are home? What happened to sneaking around and trying to avoid such issues?

by Anonymousreply 520January 24, 2022 11:44 PM

R520 I said the same thing. Why is this becoming a thing on these shows? No. Just no.

by Anonymousreply 521January 24, 2022 11:46 PM

The idea that parents could be okay with their kid and their significant other having sex doesn't seem so crazy to me. God knows I would never have kids but I don't think I would freak out about my 17 year old wanting to have their boyfriend/girlfriend sleep over.

by Anonymousreply 522January 24, 2022 11:49 PM

R522 good for you. I know i wouldn’t allow it.

by Anonymousreply 523January 24, 2022 11:50 PM

r522 a sleepover is fine, in some homes. Loud grunting, as if they are paying the mortgage & alone, is wrong. Just like parents tend to avoid explosive sounding sex when the kids are home out of respect (and to avoid trauma).

When 20 year olds bring home their significant others. They may share a room, but no one is having loud sex at the parent's house. Certainly not high schoolers. At least not in my day, I'm only 30, lol.

by Anonymousreply 524January 24, 2022 11:53 PM

They are going to be off at college doing god knows in a year r523. You can't helicopter parent forever.

And true, there is a difference between sleeping over and having loud sex r524. In real life most people would be mortified of their parents hearing them have sex. Though honestly I think Nate wants to have his father hear him be a "real man" and fuck a girl. Prove that he is not like him.

by Anonymousreply 525January 25, 2022 12:01 AM

Nate probably does it on purpose so his dad can hear him. He’s so fucked in the head.

by Anonymousreply 526January 25, 2022 12:05 AM

I’m seeing a lot of people on social media complain how Kat’s dinner scene in episode 3 literally was planted in the middle of the episode out of nowhere with no follow up scene or anything, making it feel awkward. That is because the asshole show runner cut her other scenes due to them bumping heads and her storming off set.

by Anonymousreply 527January 25, 2022 12:06 AM

R527 I think her relationship with her boyfriend will soon be over. He didn't exactly look pleased.

by Anonymousreply 528January 25, 2022 12:23 AM

Ethan and Lexi had Googly eyes this episode so I think they will become a thing.

PS Barbie Ferreira was hot before she became fat. Even if she still has a pretty face.

Ash is like a junkyard dog! I wonder if Cal had a concussion.

by Anonymousreply 530January 25, 2022 12:30 AM

Reading this Eric Dane interview can't help but compare to his answer to Barbie apparently fighting on set with Sam about the writing.

[Quote]Is there anything about Cal that you push back on?

[Quote]I don't push back on anything. It's not my job to push back on anything. I'm there to protect the character, but at the same time, like I said, I trust Sam so much. Whatever he's wanting to do with this character I'm also along for the ride, and the challenges are actually good. Put as many obstacles as you want in front of me. It's just an opportunity for growth

by Anonymousreply 531January 25, 2022 12:32 AM

Supposedly part of Barbie’s issue is that he won’t let her have any input when it comes to her character this season but he did allow Jacob and Sydney Sweeney to give ideas etc. for their characters. This really set her off.

by Anonymousreply 532January 25, 2022 12:34 AM

[quote]the younger Cal and friend are only in 1 episode so no more flashbacks.

I'd never watched the show before tonight, and it opened on Cal and Derek, so I assumed that was THE story, not just an existing character's backstory. I made the assumption that it was Derek calling Cal at the end, telling him he was HIV+. But no.

Not gonna continue watching.

by Anonymousreply 533January 25, 2022 4:34 AM

r533 you will not be missed. Bye!

by Anonymousreply 534January 25, 2022 4:49 AM

My new theory is that every single main character is going to die. Some by suicide (Kat, Ethan, Cassie, Cal), some by overdosing (Gia, Elliott), some through random acts of violence (Rue, Lexi), and some through targeted acts of violence (Nate, Fez, Jules, Maddie, Ashtray).

This last episode might be my favorite of the entire series. The Cal flashback was fascinating, but my MVP was Cassie. Her scenes were simultaneously tragic yet hilarious. Loved the beauty routine montage.

by Anonymousreply 535January 25, 2022 6:27 AM

My sister hates Cassie for some reason lol

by Anonymousreply 536January 25, 2022 9:43 AM

R533 why would you start a series on episode 3 of the 2nd season? This isn’t a show like Law and Order. You need to have watched from the beginning to know their characters and stories, as it’s a character driven series more so than a plot driven one.

I hate idiots like you.

by Anonymousreply 537January 25, 2022 9:45 AM

[quote] why would you start a series on episode 3 of the 2nd season?

Because someone posted that scene in his IG feed yesterday. I'd never watched the show before, but if it was going to have guys like this, in a storyline like this, maybe I would. But sadly, it was a one-and-done for "Derek," whom I liked in particular.

Why would I not watch? My mistake, obviously, was commenting on it, you wretched, stinking cunt.

I know people who have never watched the show. But those people have still heard of the show and know it stars Zendaya. Idk anyone who would think it’s a show about a gay love story…

by Anonymousreply 539January 25, 2022 3:17 PM

Zendaya is not the cultural touchstone for me she apparently is for you. The only thing I knew about it was that it stars that delicious-looking Jacob Elordi, about whom much ink, and semen, have flowed.

by Anonymousreply 540January 25, 2022 3:22 PM

R540 why are you lying? Lmao her face is literally the poster for both seasons. The cover art. Just stop

by Anonymousreply 541January 25, 2022 3:27 PM

I do wonder how many actors were scared away because young Cal and Derek roles required full frontal nudity r515.

I know it has detractors, but personally I love Levinson doesn't try to shy away from nudity, not even (just) for pervy reasons but it is refreshing to see it treated like no big deal.

by Anonymousreply 542January 25, 2022 3:27 PM

There’s a big difference between not shying away from nudity and showing it non stop for no reason

by Anonymousreply 543January 25, 2022 3:29 PM

R541 Why do you care so much about what I knew and when I knew it? You're weird. And pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 544January 25, 2022 3:29 PM

r543, which do you think Euphoria is doing, "not shying away" or "showing it non-stop"?

by Anonymousreply 545January 25, 2022 3:46 PM

R545 like most viewers, I feel it’s the latter. The nudity this season is gratuitous.

R544 because you’re … LYING

by Anonymousreply 546January 25, 2022 4:09 PM

I'm not R543, R545, but I think the answer is BOTH.

I'm sure there's a purpose and I'm still trying to construct my own theory. Like E3, where the drug dealer's husband just walked in stark naked, when the show began with a 10-min montage featuring naked men...

Maybe the male nudity should be viewed in the context of Euphoria being some celebration of neo-feminism. The women are in control, smart, ambitious, fearless, blah, blah, blah, the men are weak, cruel, cowardly...and the exploited.

by Anonymousreply 547January 25, 2022 4:17 PM

Jacob Elordi said almost all the penises on the show aren’t real.

by Anonymousreply 548January 25, 2022 9:15 PM

There are a lot of prosthetic penises on this show, including the one Eric Dane wore which is the story Elordi was talking about. Generally it's not that hard to figure out what is real and what is fake. Obviously if it is an erect penis on an actor, it's fake.

by Anonymousreply 549January 25, 2022 9:28 PM

I remember the showrunner saying the locker room scene in season 1 was all prosthetics

by Anonymousreply 550January 25, 2022 9:30 PM

Angus Cloud isn’t allowed to watch the entire season (the rest of the cast get to see it all ahead of time) so he has to watch in real time with the rest of us.

Turns out it’s because he would say too much during season 1 and give away spoilers, so now he has to watch like the rest of us to know all that is happening outside of his scenes 😂

Look, when you have you even have young people saying tone down the amount of nudity you know it’s too much. Tons of them all over TT are saying it’s getting a bit much now. And I agree with this girl. I’m fine with nudity but we don’t need it EVERY episode.

I didn't realize Young Cal and Derek were both wearing wigs. Apparently the designer called them the Damon and Pitt wigs.

Those weren't California tags. They were some generic plate that said "Drive Safely."

Young Cal and Derek may not be back, but IMDB doesn't have all the info on upcoming episodes, including full cast lists or even episode titles.

by Anonymousreply 554January 26, 2022 9:23 AM

R509

[quote]Noticed that showed Cal alone in bed, not with Derek.

Why would Cal and Derek EVER be in bed together at Cal's place when his dad clearly has a propensity for barging in unannounced?

by Anonymousreply 555January 26, 2022 10:10 AM

R555 his point is that they kissed. Nothing more. They never had sex

by Anonymousreply 556January 26, 2022 10:15 AM

^ We have no way of knowing that.

by Anonymousreply 557January 26, 2022 10:18 AM

It’s all pretty easy to figure out. This show wouldn’t suddenly shy away from showing us…

r557 that bar had a motel attached. You don't think that's where Cal got his taste for naughty motel sex from? Those two did something that night.

by Anonymousreply 560January 26, 2022 6:35 PM

r551 Angus seems like a nice little Irish immigrant, but he also comes off as dumb as a box of rocks. I'm sure he is not dumb since he was discovered working some random job and was offered the spot on Euphoria, but it feels like there is not much going on in his pretty head during interviews.

He needs some media training cause it's painful.

by Anonymousreply 561January 26, 2022 6:37 PM

R560 doubt it. The show would have let us know.

by Anonymousreply 562January 26, 2022 6:38 PM

They did let us know after they showed us with the bedroom scene. Thinking we'd see his friend in there with him.

by Anonymousreply 563January 26, 2022 6:42 PM

yeah, no.

by Anonymousreply 564January 26, 2022 6:43 PM

R563 no. I think they just kissed and had a deep, intimate moment. I don’t think it went straight to fucking.

by Anonymousreply 565January 26, 2022 6:45 PM

Is "young Cal" supposed to be a younger version of Eric Dane's character Cal Jacobs?

Is there not an older version of the Derek character.

What are the odds we're going to see Eric Dane having the homosex on screen? He's a nozzle, but he is still dancing on the line of hot.

Could someone summarize BRIEFLY why they included a flashback to a younger version which showed him having essentially a romance with another dude? Also, does it imply based on stuff happening in the show that he's trying to beat the gay out of his son DL minor fav Jacob Elordi? I can't be bothered to catch up on the first season.

by Anonymousreply 566January 26, 2022 6:49 PM

[Quote]I can't be bothered to catch up on the first season

...

Then read some damn summaries online. You are too lazy to watch a show but expect someone to sit here and type out for you everything you need to know.

by Anonymousreply 567January 26, 2022 6:52 PM

If he had watched the first season he'd know that we have seen Cal "having the homosex on screen."
