I was kind of curious about the possession story line and caught the first couple of episodes where Doug was possessed. He did a great job and came off like some force of evil. I lost interest when they shifted to camping it up with possessed Marlena. I understand why they wanted their star to be possessed and give Evans some scenery to chew, but I would have been more interested if they went down a different path this time. They also really, really want to make everyone love Ben and Ciera and think they are the greatest super couple ever. There are worse twentysomething soap opera actors out there, but they are not as great as the powers that be want us to think they are.

Phllip's prosthetic leg was dredged up from the river. DA Trask assumed Phillip himself was in the river and drowned. She thought it would only be a matter of time till his body was found, so she applied emotional pressure on Kate and Victor to declare Phillip dead ASAP so she could arrest Brady before he could, she feared, flee from Salem.

R141 I understand all that, in fact if she was a competent DA I'm sure she could find a way to arrest him based on the wealth of circumstantial evidence, without the need for the parents to declare him dead. Also, as she is a lawyer, I would expect her to know that having a person declared dead is a legal preceding that follows certain rules, such as the person being missing for a period of years. It is not getting the worried senior citizen parents of somebody to sign a piece of paper.

I don't expect them to follow the law closely on the show, but at least make it plausible enough that a layman could buy it. With the rise of the anti-hero, they are now set up to be the ones you hate because they are always prosecuting the ones everyone loves. Whereas, The Edge of Night's central character spent different stints as DA or in the office and was always the hero.

I get why KA balked - she had no reason to trust them anymore, evrn though the plan to rest Hope for 6 months and then bring her back with a sexy new guy was solid. Of course if they'd written something better for her, there'd have been no need to rest the character. Hope got pretty screwed-up these last few years, though the damage wasn't permanent.

It's possible that the plan would have resulted in her taking a pay cut, however. The "dump you and invite you back for less" approach. That probably pissed her off more than anything since John, Marlena, Bo and Hope have long been the face of the series. Peter left and she stayed and waited and her loyalty was rewarded with watching as Hope circled the drain narratively. Why should she be punished and take a pay cut? Is she really worth less now that Peter R is gone? Why? Was Hope only interesting to the producers as Bo's wife?

It is well publicized how the show in general is working on a reduced budget: this isn't the golden age of soaps anymore. From what I understood, she had it made for a long time, even with a coveted dressing room that people fought for after she left.

Now to Missy Reeves back as Jennifer; while the fraus believe she "owns" the role, I don't think she is entitled to it. Missy Reeves and I are on different ends of the political spectrum, but I believe that the role is hers. And it bothers me that a lot of fans can't seem to separate actors from characters anymore. Granted, I think these actors should stay the fuck off of social media or only post puppy pictures, but soap fans have gotten out of control with coming for actors because they don't agree with them politically.

Brady hires Steve to find Kristen and this kind of comes off of the whole Philip affair and the possibility that Kristen could have somehow been involved. EJ has been falsely accused of kidnap- ping Sami and there is some evidence that points to him, but he is continuing to pro claim his innocence. Chad ends up in a very interesting spot. He's got some crucial infor mation, but will he come forward? I have said this before, maybe even earlier on this thread. There used to be some youtube clips of Marlena and Don dealing with the death of their son to SIDs and the slow dissolution of their marriage. I was struck by how different her acting was - not to mention how much more real the writing was.

Do Sweeney and Dee get a long? It seems like when Sweeney does her return stints, she does not always have a ton of scenes with Marlena.

If you're going to call out Days for not being the show it was in the 60s and 70s, then you need to call out the entire genre. None of the soaps are what they were back then. The audience changed and the soaps had to change with them.

When Days did the GH ripoff in the 80s it was to revitalize a sinking show. When Jim Reilly turned Days around in the 90s, it was once again to revive a sinking show. In both cases, the show went the fantasy route to reengage audiences and it worked.

Some of you remind me of the people who complain about Sonny, Carly and Jason on GH. That's what the show is and has been for many years now and that's what it's going to be. When Ron Carlivati tried to move the show past that a fews ago, he got his ass handed to him and his walking papers.

Days is what it is and the very few people who want to watch Marlena and Don deal with a dead baby and a marriage falling apart is a very specific and very small demographic. Ask the fans over at Y&R, who are in near revolt, about realistic storytelling.

Ironically, the character of Marlena was intended to only be on the show for 6-12 months.

Show brought on Marlena in 1976 to fill the psychiatrist role while they searched for an actor to play Laura Horton. Once that part was filled, show planned to ease Marlena off the canvas.

Susan Flannery had left the role of Laura in summer 1975 and Susan Oliver filled in for about 6 months until she had a movie commitment. So, show was searching for the right actress to play the Laura character who was considered the show's moral center. Eventually, they cast Rosemary Foresyth in the role, who was a good actress but really wasn't capable of carrying off the role of the show's moral center.

By that point, Marlena had become hugely popular thanks to her pairing with Jed Allan's Don Craig. So, show ended up having two psychiatrists for several years in the late 1970s, until they eventually wrote the Laura and Bill Horton characters out in early 1980.

What made them a beloved couple that even those who didn’t watch the show were aware of, is that Nancy wasn’t a typical daytime leading lady. It is like saying “yeah, you’re fat of course the only man that would want you is a closest case wanting a beard.” Also, I remember when everyone was saying how fat Nancy was when she debuted, but thanks to Chrissy Metz she now only looks slightly chubby.

I actually enjoy the Craig coming out storyline. I want to see Nancy to go all out frau scorned batshit crazy before coming to her senses. It also gives Chloe something to do other than wasting her time with stupid men.

I don't mind the Craig story, but I can kinda see why it upsets Craig-Nancy fans. .. Imagine what would be said, if we didn't see Will & Sonny for years and years, then suddenly they show up in Salem for no particular reason other than to have Sonny announce that he's been having an affair with the woman of his dreams, and he's now straight. .. He's never been happier. Add that to the fact this story seems to have just come out of nowhere and feels totally inserted. And would Days even be doing this, if the actor playing Craig weren't an out, gay man, IRL? Somehow I doubt that.

Writing-wise this would be far more compelling, if, say, we'd actually seen Craig and Nancy move back to Salem and during a six-month arc they'd shown Craig meet and begin to develop feelings for some guy, while initially trying to resist cheating on his wife and guiltily pulling away from his marriage when he does. Simply hearing about all this instead of seeing it happen is sub-par soap.

They should have watched the Danny Lomax story on Hollyoaks. Where Danny his wife and family move to Hollyoaks, and Danny begins a downlow affair with resident gay John Paul.

Same with them Guiding Light lesbians.

Agree, I would have liked the Craig/Nancy story if they'd even had two weeks lead into it. But the cheap budgets mean it's "Hello, I'm gay"

The Craig-Nancy story would be better if they were already in town when Craig meets the other man. Or at least had been visiting town occassionally. I mean, the last time we saw Craig was something like 2013 and that was only for a couple of episodes. Last time we saw Nancy was in 2019 or 2020, and that too was just for a handful of episodes. Last time we saw them together on screen was probably 2005 when Brady and Chloe got married.

I mean, anyone who started watching in 2006 or later, Craig and Nancy have as much significance as Dr. Neil Curtis, who was last seen in 1992. Neil is the biological father of Sarah Horton.

I completely understand why the Fraus are upset. The show long established that Craig was devoted to Nancy and completely in love with her, despite her being overweight. That storyline gave many an overweight housewife hope about finding and keeping love.

Soaps don't do slow teases anymore. The suits' perception is that today's viewers don't have the attention span for it.

Well, there's slow-tease, and then there's just decent build-up. .. Breaking-up a long-term, historical couple with a week's worth of episodes before the big reveal is poor writing. .. If you put all of Craig and Nancy's recent scenes together before today's episode what do they equal? Something like 20 minutes?

The story isn't really about Craig & Nancy, it's a plot device to get Brady & Chloe back together. That's little comfort to Craig & Nancy fans, of course.

I love that Ron didn't do some stupid slow tease/build up for the Craig and Nancy's storyline. The few scenes of Craig pretending to be straight with Nancy was enough for me. Craig is officially an Eldergay! I have to say I enjoyed the big reveal scene…the soapy acting, the soapy dialogues, and the soapy weeping. It was at least something different from the unrealistic Devil (though I enjoyed Johnny hamming it up) and ridiculous Fantasy Island plots.
