The ratings did NOT go up when Sherri hosted they went up from what RERUNS of Wendy were doing. Wendy originals still got significantly better ratings than any of the guest hosts are, including Sherri. However, the ratings are holding up decently and not in freefall as some expected. Wendy would usually get like a 1.0, Sherri has gotten 0.8 while other guest hosts have gotten 0.7.

Although the show is not technically renewed for next year, with or without Wendy it will be. It still does batter than most other syndicated talk shows. The Real literally gets half the audience of current season Wendy with the guest hosts. What they do now really depends on her condition, which they have done a great job of keeping under wraps. I believe they'd like to have Wendy back if they can and if there will be some consistency going forward, although they can always count on guest hosts to fill in if she has to take off occasionally. Wendy's audience still loves her.

And let's be honest, whether you like Wendy or not, in her prime, she was always smart and witty (even on the radio). When she came on TV she expanded her brand by creating a look that a lot of the Frau's (and gay men) wanted to emulate. She was long legged, with a small waist, big boobs, glamorous clothes and wigs. My point is she had a very recognizable brand. She was a product people wanted to consume.

On talk shows, acting gigs and even as a standup comic, Sherri has always been part of a pack. She has never been a lead or a standout. Personally Sherri surprised me in that I enjoyed her guest hosting stints quite a bit. Not as much as Wendy but enough to tune in. The question is, however, can she sustain this for long term or does her shtick wear thin fast?

Wendy had the gift of being able to turn the most mundane celeb stories into juicy gossip. She was on the radio by herself a lot of days, gossiping for 5 hours straight during afternoon drive time. And even then, they limit their comments to specifically what is on video for fear of being sued. People liked Wendy's gossip, because of HOW she presented the gossip. If she was interviewing a celebrity she would ask the shitty and embarrassing questions that her audience was thinking (the kinda questions legit journalists were afraid to ask because they wanted to maintain access to the star). And when discussing a celebrity's situation, she didn't need a video. With a few pictures she could create an entire backstory of what is "really" happening. LOL Nowadays viewers are savvy enough to find all the gossip online, but what they want is Wendy's take on it. In her prime, Wendy's take was always smart and funny. She worked hard to perfect that schtick. It's not easy or everyone would do it. Very few people can pull that off.

Although, Wendy was famous for the gossip, her real strength was "Ask Wendy" where she gave the audience, often very good and common sense, advice.

Wendy brought a lot to that show. Sherri will need to find her own schtick. We'll see...

And when she was wrong about someone she admitted it - actually eating prepared crow on live TV when she was wrong about how long Kim and Kanye's marriage would last.

She kept random celebrities names in the Zeitgeist just because she was fans of theirs. Who remembers when she named some hallway in the staff offices "Heather Locklear Way" - actually had a sign made and everything? She was in love with Shia LaBeouf, against her better judgment, saying of such bad boys, "He looks like he'd slam you on the bed, choke you out and do you dirty.... You like what you like..." Who says that on morning TV? It was truly a wild, crazy, fun roller coaster ride and I'll miss her terribly.

When the show turns over, will they: get rid of him because they want everything fresh and original to Sherri; 2) keep him on for the old school Wendy fans, as he's become a well-liked staple to the show and the nostalgia of that will get those viewers to tune in.

And her talent, personality type was such that many more people liked her than didn't. She modeled herself after Howard Stern. Even though they had their ups and downs with each other, Wendy always paid respect to Howard Stern and how he influenced her own career, and to speak your mind whether or not people like what you are saying about a certain topic. Wendy never pandered to her audience to garner their favor. The woman burped regularly AND farted occasionally on national morning TV. We always remember the terrible things she said about people, but she said a lot of really nice things, surprisingly encouraging things that helped people's careers. She would champion someone until they were a success. James Meeks, "The Hot Model," said he wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't the way Wendy picked up the story and said he should be modelling. She didn't discover him, but she shined a huge light on him and made people look. Jerry O'Connell of all people thanks the uptick of his career thanks to her support of him. There are many others. Because she noticed these people, we noticed them. She booked Justin Bieber on her show way before anyone else would - and talks disdainfully about that experience. She gave a huge platform to people who otherwise wouldn't have had one just because she liked them and wanted to meet and talk with them.
