It's understable that Kostyuk felt that way about the US Open final, she was better than Raducanu and Fernández and she seemed destined to big things before stalling

I can't stand Tiafoe's on-court attitude. The crowd seems to eat it up, but he is just over-the-top and annoying as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 30, 2021 3:23 PM |
He’s another one who thinks he is there to entertain the crowd rather than win matches.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 30, 2021 3:29 PM |
So pleased Tiafoe won...just to piss off you miserable bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 30, 2021 4:05 PM |
I can't believe how well Tiafoe is playing. I like the rapport he has with the crowd, and he does know that he is there to win.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 30, 2021 4:09 PM |
I'd much rather watch an in-form Tiafoe than dial-tone Sinner.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 30, 2021 4:13 PM |
Tiafoe played lights out in the last set and a half. Major props for not giving up when he was down 2-5 in the second. That was a great win.

It seems Sinner didn't like Tiafoe's attitude, it's really rare on him talking about other player but he thought it was simply too much.
My problem with Tiafoe is that tomorrow he'll be trashed mercessly by Zverev.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 30, 2021 6:28 PM |
R14 I'm not saying Zverev won't trash Tiafoe, but that's what the commentary before every single one of Taifoe's matches has been this week.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 30, 2021 6:38 PM |
I'm a fan of Tiafoe. When he's playing well he can battle with the very best as he has speed, power and variety of shot. His 2 big downfalls are sometimes he chokes leads and the other is sometimes he gets so caught up in playing to the crowd he distracts himself and loses momentum. This week he's had ups and downs but managed to pull it together by the end of the match. He won't be able to have periods of inconsistency tomorrow unless Zverev has serving woes. Zverev has been pretty solid in that department this week
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 30, 2021 7:12 PM |
R14, Sinner could stand to take a page out of Tiafoe's book with a little more exuberance and expression. It's nice to see when Sinner smiles, but most of the time he seems robotic on court and his scowling-grimace fist pumps are unsightly.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 30, 2021 7:35 PM |
R17 That stands to reason. I'm pretty sure his long time coach mentioned in an interview that he used Ivan Lendl as an example early on about on-court demeanor.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 30, 2021 8:05 PM |
That's unfortunate, R18. Nobody liked Lendl.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 30, 2021 8:14 PM |
R17 Between Sinner's coldness and Tiafoe's over the top antics there's a whole world
R19 That's true nobody liked Lendl even if he was way more likeable than a bufoon like Connors

by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 31, 2021 10:33 AM |
I love Tiafoe's game (well, outside of that weirdly huge round swing on the forehand) but I do find his weird crippled strut a bit over the top. He walks around like he has spina bifida from the previous point. These 'Hulk Hogan' type celebrations seem to be more of an American thing (I recall Coco Vandeweghe doing it a lot, and perhaps even Roddick), i'm not a massive fan either but they do get the crowd involved like its another sport, and I do prefer it to robotic sulky Sinner.
I never thought Cluj Napoca would be my most anticipated final of the week, but there's actually something at stake with Halep trying to extend her streak of winning a title every year (and the home pressure), and Kontaveit's YEC spot hinging on whether she wins or not.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 31, 2021 11:02 AM |
R31 That's true but the crowd loved him, so it's not that surprising that crowds love someone like Kyrgios

This story is wild. Former doubles #1 and multiple slam winner (and grand slam semi finalist in singles) Peng Shuai has been sleeping with a very high ranking 70 year old [married] Chinese Communist Party official, at first it was an assault but it became something of a relationship or arrangement.
She exposed it in an emotional post on her Weibo (and there are photos on TennisForum of her wearing a 'Z' necklace in her matches for him). She is probably in a tonne of danger for blowing the whistle, I hope she is out of the country or else she may 'disappear' suddenly. It probably helps that the NYT has picked it up.
Many of the other Chinese players have not played a tournament this year outside of the Chinese National Games and Olympics (forced to stay within the country and train under their programs). Only about 4 players have begun to play tournaments now (Zhang Shuai actually played in the grass season while all the others were not allowed out at that point).

Norrie team.
I find it weird Barty isn't playing the WTA finals despite qualifying in first place. It's a ton of prize money on offer; the most after the slams.

R128, Tennis Channel said something about returning to Australia and having to quarantine. I was half paying attention.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 4, 2021 3:09 PM |
R129 She is vaccinated so I don't think quarantine is an issue. She said that she was exhausted and wasn't going to play any more tennis for a while. I suppose maybe it's for the best since in 2014 she took a hiatus from tennis, played cricket.. before returning to tennis in 2016, so she appears to somewhat easily get burnt out. Still given that there was $14m prize money for 8 players last year, it's no wonder that players like Jabeur and Kontaveit are so keen to get into the WTA finals.

Is Seb Korda really a great person? He had a whole bunch of stuff in support of Trump on his twitter before his publicist got him to remove it. You can still see screenshots out there. I like his game, just not the headband lol. And it was a bit gross seeing how obsessed with him Tennis Channel got before he had any results at all to speak of, and really played up the father-son family dynamic angle. With nobody mentioning that his father took full on steroids throughout his career and quietly retired with a grand slam as soon as he was banned.
The Florida IMG tennis machine is working hard for him though, and I think he will be top 10 at some point. I also find it a bit odd that the father is parading all 3 children out there as successful athletes and using their success to get back in the limelight (he even caddied for one of his golfer daughters and was there for every photo op hahaha, a bit much).
Weird that Australia is in the SF without Barty and several other players.

R156 is right. I saw the screens on twitter. He had old likes on Trump's tweets and his PR machine told him to play the good democrat so on October 2020 he started to like some random Biden tweets and unliked Trump's but people screenshotted everything. LOL
I really despise the guy. No balls to stand up for his own ideas (good or evil) and it shows he's willing to sell his ideas to get more money and be more likable. A mental prostitue, basically. I don't know why people are so obsessed with him. He's already 21 and won... one 250 event? LMAO

It's too soon. She is going to need a lot of time to adjust of what happened to her.

Why is Swiatek wearing her dad's shoes? The doubles group photo looked much better. Hsieh Su-Wei surprisingly fabulous with a sexy black gown and dark lipstick. Lesbian Demi Schuurs in a tuxedo. Sam Prehistosur dressed better than when she was in the singles group photos all those years back.
Raducanu will need to do a lot of work since she basically took the elevator to winning a slam, and missed a lot of 'stairs' along the way. This is what the WTA tour is like though, losing to players outside the top 100 in small events when you are the favourite (lol). She's still only 18, but as much as she could be a great player, I also could envision her being another Iva Majoli, who never lived up to her early, unexepcted slam win as a teenager and got caught up in the jet-setting lifestyle, despite a few years in the top 10.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | November 10, 2021 2:16 PM |
With Sinner's loss to Murray in Stockholm, FAA is assured a place in the year-end top 10 unless by some fluke one of the Milan final 8 is injured, Sinner steps in as the alternate and beats enough players to overtake Felix.

(Going 0-3 in RR play at ATP Finals earns you... 0 points. As it should.

by Anonymous | reply 238 | November 11, 2021 3:43 AM |
Well that was a real dogfight in Guadalajara tonight between Pliskbot and Mugu. Really fun match. Love a tight 3rd set TB. Mugu was her customary icicle at the handshake LOL I don’t think I’ve ever seen her be gracious or kind to ANYONE at the net when she loses.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | November 11, 2021 6:41 AM |
R239 I actually thought that was one of her warmer handshakes LOL. The way she spent about 15 seconds looking at the umpire and deciding whether or not to shake hands was really funny. Such a muggy tiebreak, but an entertaining match as it got so close at the end. Probably best chance she'll ever get to beat Pliskova, I think her H2H is 2-9 now. The Mexican crowd were really rooting for her (she is Venezuelan by birth/heritage) so I hope she wins at least one RR match this week. Plus her game is a bit more exciting than Pliskova's etc.
Watching the Next Gen finals, I love how much these young guys use the whole court. Alcaraz, Musetti, Brooksby... one shot they are metres behind the baseline and the next ball is a touch volley. It reminds me of those great indoor matches between Sampras and Becker where they threw in short angles, net approaches, varying spins, slices, everything. I hope their generation steers us away from the boring baseliners and power grinding that permeates the modern slow-hard-court ATP.

Seb.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | November 12, 2021 1:05 AM |
I think Korda is sexy in a way which is weird because he resembles his father who is sinfully ugly. I guess just the right combo of features makes all the difference.

She-hulk's boobs are sweating. Big wet patches. Not a good look, Nike.

I think it is hilarious that the commentators always refer to Tommy Paul as "Tommy Paul" every single time. They never refer to him as just "Tommy" or "Paul" like they do with any other player throughout the match. Paul Annacone is the worst about doing it.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | November 12, 2021 2:17 AM |
Is Tommy Paul related to Ru?
by Anonymous | reply 260 | November 12, 2021 3:04 AM |
Every time I see Badosa I think of Sharapova.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | November 12, 2021 4:21 AM |
I think PBG is better looking than Sharapova.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | November 12, 2021 4:39 AM |
How's that r261? Badosa isn't a tall, gangly, insufferable wench.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | November 12, 2021 11:28 AM |
Rublev looks cute in that picture. Ruud is unremarkably basic.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | November 12, 2021 3:01 PM |
Djokovic looks small compared to the rest of them.

Berretini looks the hottest in the picture! Woof woof.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | November 12, 2021 6:25 PM |
What is happening with the ladies, Swiatek was crying on her match and Sabalenka cried at the press conference. They are overly sensitive in this tournament
by Anonymous | reply 269 | November 12, 2021 6:30 PM |
fucking hate that awful scruff facial hair that Berrettini and some other players go with. They look much better either clean shaven or neat facial hair
by Anonymous | reply 270 | November 12, 2021 6:49 PM |
another brain fart from Tiafoe. He was playing great, got too caught up in the moment again and blew it while serving for a straight set victory. Except for the forehand he's better than Paul but Paul was more disciplined
by Anonymous | reply 271 | November 12, 2021 6:50 PM |
Tommy Paul just needs to get a haircut, shave and take off his shirt.
by Anonymous | reply 272 | November 12, 2021 7:01 PM |
R272 agreed. One of the few men who looks worse with a beard (for me)

by Anonymous | reply 274 | November 12, 2021 7:35 PM |
R274 yeah, I know from a good source that Mugu was dating her physio some time ago

Hubie is reddit.com/r/aww worthy, such a sweetheart. I'll be crushed if it's discovered he is an asshole.

I think Ruud looks cute! Of course, I always think Ruud looks cute.

by Anonymous | reply 281 | November 12, 2021 10:00 PM |

This was a golden opportunity for FAA to win his first ATP title.
Sinner was out and Dennis is out of form.
And yet he still flopped.
He really need to fire both of his coaches.
Toni Nadal is one of them.

I think the problem with a lot of the younger top players of the last 16 years is that they get 1 great result, either a big title or a QF/SF/F and suddenly they get tons of endorsements and the star treatment at future tournaments. For some of them, this seems to cause them to take their foot off the gas and not be as hungry for more success. It used to be so hard to get a lot of money as a tennis player unless you were winning more than 1 big tournament each year. The prize money and endorsements have really grown since the late 90s
I do think Felix will eventually win a title in 2022 but yes he really blew a great chance this week.

I'm starting to find Zverev's trashiness hot. He's so sleazy seeming.
