Door Dash is fucked up

They just left my food on the door step and didn't even knock on my door. And there is no way to rescind the tip. I've also seen some of these drivers, I'm not sure where they're recruiting from but they don't seem like they're all that trustworthy. And what is with the ones who ride in pairs or the name same Laurie, but some guy delivers the food.

by Anonymousreply 47October 10, 2021 10:53 PM

It's side gig work. Laurie may have stayed in the car and had her friend bring it up. They also encourage contactless delivery. Some people request no knocking or doorbell ringing.

by Anonymousreply 1October 10, 2021 2:31 PM

millennial problems - not interested

by Anonymousreply 2October 10, 2021 2:32 PM

You've never had food delivered R2?

by Anonymousreply 3October 10, 2021 2:33 PM

They notify you on the app that the food is there, Grandpa

by Anonymousreply 4October 10, 2021 2:36 PM

With Uber Eats, I keep track of the order knowing when it's marked Delivered. Is DD that different?

I wait outside by the building entrance and have never had an issue.

by Anonymousreply 5October 10, 2021 2:36 PM

There's a way to request a refund. Google has the answer.

by Anonymousreply 6October 10, 2021 2:36 PM
They notify you on the app that the food is there, Grandpa

This bitch, didn't. Stop defending her.

by Anonymousreply 7October 10, 2021 2:38 PM

I always watch the tracking on DD. Sometimes the driver knocks and waits, or knocks and leaves, or just leaves the food without knocking. I'm guessing, though, that they don't get paid unless they mark the delivery as complete.

What I do hate is when the bag clearly smells of the drivers cologne, perfume, tobacco, whatever. I've had a few where I had to remove the food and then immediately close the bag up in a garbage bag. I can only guess what their cars smell like and be glad I'm not using them for Uber.

by Anonymousreply 8October 10, 2021 2:42 PM

It's all about "contactless delivery" they generally don't knock, just notify you through the app that it is there.

by Anonymousreply 9October 10, 2021 2:44 PM

And one more thing I hate is when you get the notification that they're approaching when they're like 20 minutes away.

by Anonymousreply 10October 10, 2021 2:46 PM

r3, by the restaurant itself, sure. no, i don't use those services you are referring to

by Anonymousreply 11October 10, 2021 2:46 PM

You lazy piece of shit. Go to the restaurant and pick it up yourself then!

by Anonymousreply 12October 10, 2021 2:49 PM

They need to start hiring sexy boys to bring in the big tips.

by Anonymousreply 13October 10, 2021 2:51 PM

I wish they’d knock, too, but I usually receive so many “Your driver is on the way” texts I know when to begin looking for either the one that contains the picture they took of the bag sitting at my door, or the bag itself. Knocking would seem simple enough but whatever.

by Anonymousreply 14October 10, 2021 2:53 PM

I usually wait by the door naked. As soon as they put the food down, I swing open the door and act surprised and flustered that they caught me nude. A few drivers have come in and sucked me off while I ate my Big Mac.

by Anonymousreply 15October 10, 2021 2:54 PM

They open your food up and eat some too, they already admitted that, dont you remember? Nasty fingers in your food, it's bad enough what they do to it at the restaurant.

by Anonymousreply 16October 10, 2021 2:54 PM

If they are eating your food, you would know it. Most restaurants now are sealing food up really well. No way they can get into it without it being obvious.

by Anonymousreply 17October 10, 2021 3:02 PM

They fart on your food.

by Anonymousreply 18October 10, 2021 3:05 PM

OP is the elderly queen in the caftan from last night's thread. The drivers have been warned he's a pervy lech. Pay no attention. (Sorry I hijacked your thread, OP)

by Anonymousreply 19October 10, 2021 3:07 PM

How far do they deliver?

by Anonymousreply 20October 10, 2021 3:21 PM

The food shows up smelling like blunts and air freshener mixed together. Disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 21October 10, 2021 3:28 PM

I've tried these services several times (Doordash, Ubereats, etc.) and they fucked up my order often. And since it's not through the restaurant, they can't rectify the problem easily. It's easier just to pick up the food.

by Anonymousreply 22October 10, 2021 4:51 PM

When you order you have the option to have them leave it at the door or knock and wait for you, but I’m sure the only thing you know how to do on your phone is access DL.

by Anonymousreply 23October 10, 2021 4:52 PM

I must be very lucky, because I've never had an Uber Eats order that wasn't completely correct upon arrival. So far, all of my transactions with them have been just fine.

by Anonymousreply 24October 10, 2021 5:06 PM

A couple of months ago, I opened my door and there was a big bag of food left there that I hadn't ordered.

A couple of barbecue sandwiches and two servings of potato salad, and two sodas.

I checked the attached receipt, found the place's phone number, called them, and said "hey, somebody left some food from your restaurant at my door, and I didn't order it. Just thought I'd let you know, it's here if you want to send the driver back to come get it and take it to whoever ordered it."

The guy I spoke to said that the deliveries were all handled through a third party (Door Dash or Uber Eats or whatever), and he had no way of finding out who it really belonged to, and no way of knowing who delivered it, and for me to go ahead an enjoy the free meals. Seemed really weird to me that there would be this system of delivery with no built-in mechanism to account for such a mistake.

by Anonymousreply 26October 10, 2021 5:17 PM

I used to deliver food for a restaurant delivery service like uber eats 25 years ago, and I used to steal food from the orders all the time. I would only take stuff that would go unnoticed. If they ordered two orders of rice, I'd take one. If there was bread and butter, I'd swipe some. Stuff from kids orders were easy to go unnoticed, a missing chicken finger would be an easy!

by Anonymousreply 27October 10, 2021 5:23 PM

R25 - I don't think that once it has been delivered to you, the correct addressee likely wouldn't really want to risk something possibly contaminated like that.

by Anonymousreply 28October 10, 2021 5:39 PM

I've used it a lot, and only had one fucked-up order, which they promptly refunded. I wonder if some of you with repeated bad luck might be exaggerating?

by Anonymousreply 29October 10, 2021 5:41 PM

We all need hottie Santiago to deliver our shit and there would be no complaints

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 30October 10, 2021 5:42 PM

You can put in specific delivery directions such as knocking. So many people specifically asks that we not knock that I no longer knock unless asked to.

by Anonymousreply 31October 10, 2021 5:42 PM
I wonder if some of you with repeated bad luck might be exaggerating?

I think this is the case. You can leave specific instructions on UberEats too, its hard to fuck up. And the restaurants seal the food so meticulously you know if anything weird happened

by Anonymousreply 32October 10, 2021 5:45 PM

Whatever you may think of McDonald's food, they have the best method of sealing that shit up out of all the places that deliver.

by Anonymousreply 33October 10, 2021 5:53 PM

These app services are quite reliable. Sounds like some of you need to explore your delivery instructions.

by Anonymousreply 34October 10, 2021 5:55 PM
They notify you on the app that the food is there, Grandpa

Gee, isn't technology wonderful? I love having poors do my menial work for no money. Why should I have to get in the Lexus and drive 5 minutes to pick up munchies? If only the lazy slugs would be more efficient, get the order right, and don't expect a tip unless they're willing to go the extra mile and shave a few minutes off the delivery time by speeding. running red lights and stop signs (just not in [italic]my[/italic] neighborhood, goddammit), and if they're hot, deliver it shirtless even when it's frigidly cold out. Pissed off yet? Good.

How I really feel is deep regret that the folks doing this work are being forced by economic circumstances, a tough job market, and an increasing gap between the haves and the have-nots. Moreover, the companies (Door Dash, Uber, et. al.) can't make the model work without public assistance (oh, the irony). For these reasons, I voted for and financially supported supported California's Prop 22 which was requiring the delivery companies to treat these drivers as employees rather than independent contractors, which would require them to pay employment taxes rather than those dollars going straight into the CEO's pockets (which is exactly what happens), offer health insurance, paid time off, sick time, and the whole host of benefits that traditional employees receive, not the least of which is the payments their supposed employer make into the social safety net, including Social Security. I fear what's going to happen in 30 years when these kids go to retire and discover their Social Security isn't going to amount to much. (Yes, I know they're supposed to make those payment sin lieu of their ostensible employers' payments, but far too many of them simply don't.)

But Door Dash and Uber generated enough outcry, using the drivers themselves as shills saying that if they were treated like employees the jobs would just go away, that the proposition failed (and their stock prices skyrocketed the day after the election, further enriching the investor class that exploits cheap labor), drivers were left with no security, no unemployment when a few months later the pandemic struck and the restaurant business collapsed, and nothing to fall back on. But Doordash's Tony Xu was awarded US$413 million in compensation in 2020, making him the highest paid CEO throughout the pandemic.

The day after Prop 22 failed, I turned to my husband and said that we'd done what we could to help these gig workers, but they were smarter than us and made their choice. Now, Prop 22 has been declared unconstitutional by a California court, but let's face facts and realize that with the judiciary so warped by Republicans up to and including SCOTUS, that this decision will be overturned. The only recourse is another proposition. So, kids, deliver my shit for free, beg for scraps, and continue bitching about the high cost of food, gas, education... everything. I'll support you again if you try to level the playing field, but I'm not going to care about you when you don't care about yourselves.

by Anonymousreply 35October 10, 2021 6:01 PM

"The day after Prop 22 failed, I turned to my husband and said that we'd done what we could to help"

R35 I'm sure your intentions were/are good, but you sound absolutely dreadful and unjustifiably smug.

by Anonymousreply 36October 10, 2021 6:16 PM

Oh FFS, R35.

by Anonymousreply 37October 10, 2021 6:18 PM

Not smug, R36, pissed off. When it comes to modern employment, the deck is so stacked in favor of corporations that it's bewildering to see even the smallest of steps we can take to level the playing field defeated at the ballot box, by the people who would be most benefited by the proposed law.

Maybe if I come off as smug and the drivers get pissed off, it might change things. Is the attitude I displayed so far off base, or is it the reality of today's economics? Clearly, supporting the proposition and the drivers meant little. The outcome wasn't even close.

by Anonymousreply 38October 10, 2021 6:26 PM

Most actual drivers did NOT want Prop 22 to pass. It would have turned independent contractors into employees which we do not want.

by Anonymousreply 39October 10, 2021 9:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 41October 10, 2021 10:06 PM

I decided I was done paying $12 for delivery and tip for a $15 order. Felt really lazy last week and ordered delivery for the first time in months. McDonalds.... no I'm not a fat whore :) Delivery was 6-8 minutes on Door Dash, so i thought what the hell. It said the driver was in the parking lot waiting for the order, but the tracker showed she was at another stop 5 minutes past me and by the time she got back to pick it up and deliver it, it was 35 minutes and cold. She was a fat whore and double parked in front of my building with 10 cars honking behind her. She practicall tossed the food at me without a word and slowly shuffled back to her car. No one to call to complain or get my tip back. I'll just stay with cooking at home.

by Anonymousreply 42October 10, 2021 10:24 PM

I’ve had two door dash deliveries left at my front door and I wasn’t the intended recipient. Both time they didn’t knock and I found it the next morning.

Thy should have knocked! Then I would have been able to enjoy someone else’s bourbon/bacon cheeseburger and onion rings!

by Anonymousreply 43October 10, 2021 10:46 PM

Thy? Lol

Fuck you autocorrect!

by Anonymousreply 44October 10, 2021 10:47 PM

Autocorrect is very holy tonight.

Thou hast in now….
