DLers are in the habit of just using obvious troll threads to talk about topics, I guess it's out of laziness. Sometimes it's out of spite, like when I tried to get people to stop posting on a troll's thread a few days ago and got called a Nazi for it, and people said that pointing out trolls was worse than trolling.
Hopefully after the week without trolls and everyone realizing just how much shit Dejure causes (since she was the one who started the other trollbait thread) people will start paying more attention.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 5, 2021 2:11 PM |
[quote]Just as she had in Arizona, where she moved her desk next to the Republican Andy Biggs so they could make jokes about their colleagues, Sinema set out to make herself relevant in the GOP-dominated Senate chamber through relentless congeniality. She was a “social butterfly,” one conservative remarked early in her House tenure—the antithesis of the angry Marxist they’d been warned about. Sinema won over Republican colleagues on predawn runs along the National Mall and in bipartisan spin classes she taught in the House gym. (It was her friend Kevin McCarthy’s idea.) A Virginia Republican once spent an hour teaching her how to flip-turn in the House pool. Trey Gowdy became a close friend. As a senator, she now counts Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz as confidants.
[quote]Her pal Andy Biggs, now an ultra-MAGA congressman, celebrated the January 6 riot by voting to disenfranchise his entire state. Her friend Ted Cruz wanted to argue in the Supreme Court that Texas could throw out Pennsylvania’s electoral votes.
She was also friends with Russell Pearce, far-right author of the controversial anti-immigrant SB 1070 bill, and when her colleagues started a recall campaign against Pearce she refused to participate. Pearce was recalled anyway.
People try to paint her friendships with rightwingers (while she betrays and ignores lefties, liberals, Dems and her own constituents) as just her trying to cross the aisle, but I think they're projecting that onto her.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 5, 2021 2:12 PM |
Another thing mentioned in that Mother Jones article is that early in her career, she could "make legislators cry" and her friends and colleagues thought that was good, but I have to wonder if she ever really did that, or if she simply acted like the lunatic that she is, and caused people to get frustrated or astonished by her behavior.
I'm not sure her talent for disruption was ever a calculated political move, I think it's an actual personality disorder, exacerbated by her clumsy attempts to make people think she's something she is not.

This Mark Barabak lets her off way too easy, especially in casting her as a maverick (others have already demolished the comparison to McCain) and a principled independent. Her arguments for the filibuster and against the $3.5 trillion (over ten years) infrastructure plan are weak. Look at the corporate donations she's getting and there's all the explanation you need.
As for the "makes liberals head explode" headline, that's just a straw man. She's blocking policies that are broadly popular in AZ and across the US, not just those of a "liberal" or "progressive" minority.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 6, 2021 12:13 AM |

No, R74, that was a congresswoman who was forced to resign over the scandal. IIRC her estranged husband himself leaked the pictures to damage her career: a case of revenge porn. She's still active in politics from the sidelines, though.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 6, 2021 10:26 AM |
She's said she wants to be a maverick like McCain, and her little bob-and-thumbs-down vote against raising the minimum wage was a kind of homage to his thumbs-down on repealing the Obamacare's mandate. But the difference is that AZ voters support raising the minimum wage even more than they oppose repealing Obamacare. Sinema doesn't flout her party for her consituents but for her corporate donors.

She apparently even described herself as such early on, r36. I guess she used to run as an independent and said she hated Democrats. In that Mother Jones article she apparently told someone she changed her positions over the years because she didn't like to lose elections. She's always been this way.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 6, 2021 11:34 AM |
She's always been more independent than party-bound, but she hasn't always been more conservative than liberal. She started out with the Green Party, which is overall to the left of the Democrats on economic and environmental issues; now she's voting with conservatives on those issues. She started out pro-democracy; now she vehemently supports the filibuster. Where substance is concerned she's moved towards corporations and Republicans.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 6, 2021 11:44 AM |
[quote]she apparently told someone she changed her positions over the years because she didn't like to lose elections
Well, if she thinks her ratings at R82 and her voting against AZ voters, refusing to meet with constituents, etc. is going to help her win elections, she may be taking the wrong tack.
These claims of her "reaching across the aisle" are bullshit. Chris Murphy works with Republicans on legislation, while also supporting popular progressive policies—to take just one example in the Senate. Sinema is just a sell-out.

Why, so they could be thrown out by security? If she had agreed to give them an audience, it wouldn’t have come to following her to the toilet and listening to her cut a loaf.

I doubt very much whether this experience has made Sinema more likely to listen to reason. If anything, it's made her dig in her heels even harder. Which is what this behavior always does. It feels good to those screaming and yelling in bathrooms and restaurants and in front of private houses, and to the people who support them, but it doesn't actually accomplish anything -- and it may in fact be counterproductive.

Many hate Americans but they sure don’t mind when our taxes are raised taking away the money we have to work for to give to them for all kinds of stuff. Our insurance rates are sky high due to this crap. A lot of them have diabetes and drink beer like it’s going out of style, 48 and more cans a day, and have all sorts of infections from diabetes, common among them. Who is paying for their endless trips to the hospitals? Americans. Many have need for dialysis and don’t go to the clinics for dialysis till they are hauled into the er and onto to the icu for emergent dialysis costing millions of dollars to the American public. They eventually die and there’s thousands more parading in to live on your dime . Of course none of them bother with masks are not vaccinated, some have covid and on the trail in are living cheek to jowl with each other in squalor but no word for the press on that one, but hey you American wear your mask and get that jab! But I think honey traps aren’t dedicated agents. I think they’re blackmailed into it by their handlers. Their families are threatened or something. So they have no choice.
Who would you rather be? Maria Butina or Jill Stein? Maria Butina or K Sinema? Butina is a lower caste agent. Stein & Sinema are primo.

what are the chances that R115 isn't a Native American but an immigrant? 2nd generation, 3rd generation whatever, but still a fucking immigrant himself.

R120 yes! They are some kind of agent provocateur group.

R120. Ralph Nader & the Green Party helped G. W. Bush become President in 2000.
The Green Party began as a pro-environment organization. It has become Republican enablers and Putin assets.

Why would they side with Republicans? They are anti-environment, anti climate change. It makes no sense to side with a party that hates everything you represents and vice versa.

It sounds like the Green Party tell independents what they want to hear...their most important issues to get votes for them...to take away votes from Democrats. They help repubs in that way. I stick with the two major parties...well now, one major party with a D.

I see them as a bait and swith party...the Green Party. ^^

*switch...fuck, need an edit here...

The Green Party might be a little more left leaning on some issues that some people, who might normally vote Democrat...but feel the Dems aren't left leaning enough, so they'll vote Green. It takes away votes from Democrats. Most likely, a Green Party candidate will never win an election. They're a diversion.

She has stabbed every Arizonan who helped her over the last 20 years (and I know a few) in the back. I wish the worst upon her. Karma is a bitch and so is she.

They should destroy her surname like they did Rick Santorum’s.
Do the same thing with Manchin’s too.

She doesn’t care. She is playing a different game like Jill Stein was.
She is immune from criticism because the American people are not her boss. She doesn’t work for us.
