GH sure is bringing Drew back in a messy way. Bringing in Valentin and Obrecht and who knows who else when they didn't need all that stupidity with Drews return. Could have just had him wake up in a coma and come home. Suspense doesn't work when the character is a recast. Just ask the PhyllisSheila hybrid on Y+R circa 2006...Nobody is on the edge of their seat to see nuDrew and Sam reunited.

R5 makes a really good point. Soap producers think we are invested in the character, when we are actually invested in the actor playing the character. Until we see real heat between Drew and Sam, reuniting them is of no particular interest to us. I've seen this mistake many times, I suppose because soap producers are looking at the product and not the process -- what really engages and ignites viewers.

I'm catching up on the past two weeks of shows. I'm noticing Steve Burton's cheek implants. I've never really noticed them before. Are they new? Or has he had them for a while and I'm just now noticing them?

Steve Burton is challenging to watch...great body, amazing eyes, but sunken face and unimaginative wardrobe (the costume people at GH think a black leather jacket proves you are tough).

KMo has only had chemistry with a few co-stars. So odds are chemistry won't work out on this new pairing. Also, the characters were divorced for over a year before Drew left. In these new scenes, Drew keeps talking about returning to his daughter, not Sam

R25 Florencia Lozano is a goddess, go and look at her love scenes from the OLTL reboot with Trevor St. John, it is hotter than most soft-porn on skinamax. She would be perfect as another Cassadine, from somewhere. They are an ethnically malleable family, as evidenced by the actors currently on canvas as Cassadines. Plus, she does crazy AMAZINGLY well. And, all the Cassadines go crazy at some point.

GH started the Lorenzo Mystery by making Tomas a (possible) Alcazar. Mixing Tea and Blair against Sky and Carly and Todd was awesome. Sky telling Blair (on her wedding day) that Tomas might be her baby daddy was so true to their OLTL rivalry. Of course GH swept it all under the rug so serial killer mobster Sonny could shine.

How did they explain that Tea knew him as her brother Tomas Delgado, when he was in fact Lorenzo Alcazar?

R34 = They did not resolve it. Luis and Lorenzo were twins. So Tomas being a triplet raised with the Delgados wasn't an impossible stretch. GH dropped it but OLTL had established Tomas was a CIA Agent........Soap Central Summary of the unresolved storyline---------------->>"In November 2012, Tomas and Blair's plans to marry were disrupted when Todd showed up in Llanview with two women, Carly Jacks and Skye Quartermaine, who both told Blair that Tomas was the spitting image of a believed dead man they had been involved with named Lorenzo Alcazar. OMG, R32, I just about melted watching the OLTL reboot scenes with Tea and Victor. He actually put his hand down the front of her panties. Prospect Park attempt to revive OLTL online is what ended the Tomas Delgado is Lorenzo Alcazar plot.

In early 2013, before the online version of OLTL and AMC debuted, Prospect Park filed suit that it had the rights to all the OLTL characters and would no longer let GH use them. That killed the Tomas-Lorenzo plot just as it was getting started. Meanwhile, it also is why Todd, Starr, and McBain all departed Port Charles and their portrayers came back playing Franco, Kiki and Silas Clay.

Mikos was the oldest of the Cassadine brothers, making him the patriarch of the family. Victor is the middle brother, and Tony was the youngest.

That would mean any children or grandchildren of the patriarch, Mikos, would rank higher than any children on Victor or Tony.

The reveal that Spencer confessed he is the stalker was poor. Spencer just suddenly blurted it out. There wasn't any buildup to it within the episodes where we got closeups of Spencer getting anxious. We didn't see him sweating as things escalated out of control. We didn't see him worrying as Sonny was threatening Nikolas. We didn't get reactions shots focusing on Spencer.

As it was presented, he just seemed to randomly blurt it out because it got a little hot between Sonny and Nikolas.

The script should have included some build up. And the director should have had some closeups for us to watch Spencer come to the decision to confess.

Damn it GH! Why did you have to remind me of BJ's death today. It is the one storyline from all of soap land, that makes me cry just when it is mentioned. I was slightly older than the characters and it was heartbreaking to me.

Also, it is why I'm one of those fans which will never allow Maxie to be killed off or really written out. I'm not saying she can't be recast but she is a character that must remain, it is why I hate some of the choices they have made with the character.

If I would've been writing the show, one of Maxie's many tragedies would have seen her develop DID and break into Maxie and BJ personalities. Bobbie would have discovered it, around this time of year. At first she is shocked, but then she is so happy to have her Barbara Jean back that she goes along with it and helps to keep it secret.

I know it hasn't been that long, but is Port Charles ready for another serial killer? I kind of like Esme and would love to see her systematically kill off all the teenagers, plus a few more. (That is what they're kind of hinting at)

Everything with these writers is an afterthought with no dramatic payoff. Joss didn't give two shits about Sonny dying. I kept hoping Annie Dutton would slap the smug right out of that indignant bitch

Yes, these writers sure know how to built things up, but the dramatic payoff is always lackluster.

Sonny getting his memory back and coming home to find Carly and Jason married. So much potential there for fireworks and a great payoff after months of built up. Yet the climax we got was yawn inducing.

Spencer confesses he's the stalker just seemed to come out of nowhere. After months of that plotline, Spencer just blurts it out in the middle of a scene in the middle of the show?!? Where was the build up with Spencer sweating or cornered until he had no choice but to confess? And why wasn't that the final scene of the episode?

These are two gay men as HWs! Did they not grow up watching soaps? Don't they understand how to climax a storyline with a satisfying payoff?!

But Phyllis came to town.

It feels like we are in one of those periods where they are hurridly ending long-running storylines to launch new ones, but other than the Peter August story, so far the other ones haven't hit right.

Regardless, of how one feels about the character, Peter's reappearance is being used to expand the Cassadines, reintroduce Drew Cain, include the WSB, and provide Maxie, Brook Lynn, and Sam & Dante with drama.

I think they are trying a slow fade in on the aftermath drama of the rest, I hope...

So far Nixon Falls has ended, with pretty much the status quo, and the addition of Phyllis to PC, which I like. She is much better than Aunt Stella. Though I feel they will argue at some point. I also like Phyllis being around for Nina, they seem to have a very Mona/Erica type bond.

With the Spencer one, I hope the stalking was rushed out, in order to set up some major Esme drama. It seems pretty clear she is about to seduce Cam, for instance. Scott might not really be related to him, but I think they are modeling Cam a lot on what I've seen and read of young Scott. And, that will set Joss up to fully become Little Carly.

R89, the type of work being done on the GH set simply does not lend itself well to options like masking, social distancing or work from home. These actors are getting right up in each others face spewing their dialog and even kissing on the mouth, if that's what the scene calls for. They also work physically close with small children not yet eligible for vaccination. Arguably, these kinds of conditions call for extra protective measures and only a fool wouldn't appreciate that.

I've been watching DAYS in addition to GH, and I can see how people say DAYS started trying be GH like in the 1980s and how it still echos to this day.

The DiMerras seem to be a mixture of the Quartermaines and Cassadines. Johnny and Spencer seem similar, now they are both connected to beautiful young black women.

Victor Karikis is what Sonny could become, a retired Godfather, who actually manages to become a beloved part of the community, while still being rough and tumble.

Marlana is like you took Monica and Laura and mixed them together.

Their ISA is GH's WSB.

But, it just seems like DAYS took those elements and amped them up by 100.

I’m just hoping that the current rise of the Cassadines means the end of the mob. Keep Sonny as a legitimate business man. He can takeover the vast Port Charles media empire. I really wish somebody would mention his hair color. They bitched about his flannel shirts but not a word about the dye job.

DAYS very definitely copied GH.

Then again, so did literally every other soap on the air. They either copied the action adventure elements, introduced more of an antihero/crime element, or in the case of old stalwart Search for Tomorrow, went out and cast an actor who looked JUST like Anthony Geary.

The HW who created the Robert Scorpio, the WSB and the Cassadine family was Pat Falken Smith.

When Falken Smith left GH in summer 1981, she immediately moved over to be HW at Days (she'd also been the Days HW in the mid 70s) and began reconfiguring the show to be more like GH. She introduced the villainous DiMera family and the working class Brady family (to mimic the Spencer family that Marland had created).

Several years later, Pat Falken Smith's protege Sheri Anderson was HW at Day and introduced both Shane Donovan (to mimic Scorpio) and the ISA (to mimic the WSB). She also gave Shane Donovan a sidekick named Miss Peach, which mimiced Robert Scorpio's sidekick O'Reilly.

Days took the GH template and sort of ran with it until the 90s when Jim Reilly took over, but Days never really looked back once it went down that road. GH tried to go back and pretended to be legit soap for awhile. "Oh it isn't snowing in August in Port Charles anymore, we're doing breast cancer and AIDS and little girls swapping hearts and complicated, conflicted mobsters now."

For a long time GH was the mob show and now I'm not sure what it is. The mob dominates, but it's not really a mob show anymore. What is GH now? Thoughts?

The show hasn't swung to any dominant format in many years.

It's been on long enough that they know what the "greatest hits" are and rotate those type of stories with new characters in the budget they now have.

The Luke/Laura dominance was a Hail Mary pass to try to save the show and it worked out so well that they kept trying new things for decades to try to gain more ratings/money. Eventually, they realized that no format change was going to bring back a big audience to the show.

There doesn't seem to be much of an appetite from the show or the fans to make major changes now. The biggest change lately was the Mike storyline and fans complained enough to quickly bring it back to status quo

I hope this who shot Hayden angle will lead to repercussions for Nik that usher him off screen for a while. Then he can return recast with someone up to the task, Nik-Manuel Miranda just isn't cutting it.

What did Maura do to piss off the GH brass?

She's been paired with NuNikolas for two years now. She deserves a screen partner worthy of her talents, someone who who's as talented as she is . She deserves to shine and doesn't have that right now.

Remember that elevator that Billy Miller in Drew Cain's final scene? It was a one way elevator. It won't come back up for Miller.

He burned his bridges at GH. Can't blame him after the way they treated him, but Miller also sleep walked through his final year on the show.

I'm going way back, but I thought MW was good with Richard Burgi's Paul Hornsby. He had a lot of potential in the role but then of course the writers destroyed the character in a ridiculous way.

Maura likely would be good opposite James Patrick Stuart. They could go toe to toe nicely. Both are very strong actors. But they're putting him with Finola, a pairing I approve of very much.

As it is, she's holding back so as not to overpower Marcus Coloma, We know how strong an actress she is. If she were to give it her all opposite him, she would blow him away in about 2 minutes. He'd sniveling in the corner, ready to quit the business.

Maura was good with Steve Burton

The real problem for Marcus Coloma is that his main stories are about him, Ava, Spencer, and Esme, and all three are much, much better than he is. When he was mainly interacting with Ava, he could skirt by because most actors can't compete with her, but now his shortcomings are very clear.

Also Marcus looks years younger than Maura. When he hugged her today it was like a hurt kid coming home from school.

I don't think he does well with GF either.

Tyler supposedly showed up to set drunk several times on Days although he isn't the first actor to do so on Days. A couple other Days actors are alleged to have done the same before also. I also don't think either Y&R or B&B would hire him.

Weird that Mayim talked about loving Luke and Laura on General Hospital after a clue on today's Jeopardy episode.

Mayim was born in 1975, meaning she was only 6 years old when Luke and Laura got married in 1981.

It's certainly possible for Mayim to have been watching GH during the height of Luke and Laura mania in 1980-81, but 6 seems a little young to be into soap operas. Maybe her mother or grandmother got her started watching the show when she was very young.

Speaking of Luke and Laura's, the 40th anniversary of their 1981 wedding is coming up in a month. Wonder if the show will do anything to acknowledge that.

Tyler's certainly not the first actor to show up drunk on the set. In olden days, shows could postpone shooting an actor's scenes until he sobered up, either wait til later in the day or shoot them on another days. Nowadays, with shows taping two episodes in a day, delays for a drunk actor to sober up just aren't possible. It throws off everyone's schedule. With super tight budgets, it's just fucks everything up. Shows can't afford to waste money with such delays.

R2 Thaao was totally cool with the recast. Someone on Twitter tried to rip GH for recasting Victor and Thaao called CS a good actor. He was happy doing the BS mini and doing Days.Thaao felt that what he did with Victor was like bookends for him. GH wanted him back in 2015 but he went back to Days.He was totally cool with what happened with the recast in the end.

As for Days, I don't think they had plans for Charles at all. The BS mini series for Peacock was a one off. CS had played Holly's cousin before he went to Days in The 80s. I don't buy him as a heel at all. He has mostly played good guys in his career. Nice to see him but the menace is not really in this version of Victor.

I always thought Geary's claim to have been Liz Taylor's lover was strange when he was so clearly gay. Perhaps they were close friends and cooked up this idea to dispel rumors of his being gay, given the era. I give GH credit for not backtracking on the fact that Luke was a rapist, but it make the stories of him being a hero and later a rebel hard to take. And while I'm not sorry he's gone, his departure made Sonny (not a rapist but a cold-blooded murderer) the male lead of the show. So, what can we learn about daytime television from a show that moves from one male lead to another, the first being a rapist and the second being a murderer? And let's not forget that Maurice is not even 10% the actor that Geary was.

Though Tony was very much the white sheep of that family.

Marlena aka Deeva Hall was on before Days before those two actresses started on GH. The Monica character started the same year as Marlena did on Days.
