Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie Case @forGabbyPetito · How does it sit right with the @NorthPortPolice knowing that #BrianLaundrie’s parents helped his escape and they’re letting the parents roam freely around town?

How many millions are they wasting still searching the swamp? Aren't they disturbing the ecosystem, and shouldn't the gators, crocs, and snakes have some rights to a peaceful existence?

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2021 3:06 PM

He's an ugly mutha fucka! I would have never let my daughter go anywhere with him. Too ugly!

FBI showed up at the house again about 15 minutes ago. Enjoy this video, apparently filmed with a calculator.

Apparently the parents left in the red pickup about 9:30AM their time, came back about 12:30PM, and 30-45 minutes after that the cops showed up, then the FBI.

by Anonymousreply 9September 30, 2021 5:36 PM

Nobody knew that they went camping with their son until that dog guy got involved. They never even questioned him when he was home. Then they believed the parents when they said he took a hike in an alligator infested swamp spending millions.

I won't even begin on the police who stopped them and said she was abusing him when she was distraught and he was laughing.

This case seems to show law enforcement as the worst possible way to protect people and bring them to justice. The daily ineptitude is so bad it looks like it's on purpose.

Laundrie lawyer through Brian Entin says they were getting items to help the K9 units.
The FBI is at the Laundrie home today to collect some personal items belonging to Brian that will assist the canines in their search for Brian.

by Anonymousreply 13September 30, 2021 5:50 PM

The lawyer seems to be full of it because the FBI went into the camper while they were there, it's hard to see because this is potato quality but they go in starting about 13 mins 50 seconds, but they appear to have taken swabs or samples. Not just items for the K9s.

I think he’s alive and his parents know it, I don’t think they know his exact location though which benefits the parents in case they get dragged in for questioning.

The preserve must have something of great value to the investigators, maybe it’s gabby’s cell phone or iwatch that could provide some crucial details on location, sites visited or timelines.

by Anonymousreply 15September 30, 2021 5:56 PM

What. purpose does it serve to have these amateur "citizen sleuths" stalking that house 24/7. That's as creepy as the Laundries. I don't blame the neighbor for cracking. GO THE FUCK HOME AND LET THE POLICE AND FBI DO THEIR JOBS.

by Anonymousreply 16September 30, 2021 6:12 PM

FBI were at the Laundrie's home to get DNA tests from Brian's parents.

Dog last night presented evidence of Brian being on that small island. Specifically he papped a Monster XXX energy drink can and a small purse. The latter is believed to have been given to him by his mother after she reported him missing.

There's an old man, who's a part-time park ranger living in seclusion on the island. Likely Dog interviewed him as to the exact dates Brian was staying on the island.

by Anonymousreply 17September 30, 2021 6:23 PM

Brian is going to get extra time for running and hiding like the coward he is. And he'll deserve it.

While the mom is obviously an enabling dumbass, you know his dad is sitting there at night, drinking himself into a stupor and thinking about how his son is an utter waste and has always been a waste. Never had a job to speak of, killed the only girl he dated for any length of time, and refuses to face up to what he did like a real man would. It must really eat away at a guy like Mr. Laundrie, to realize that he raised such a spineless sack of shit. I know the mom will never see it, women like her make excuses for their little boys until their dying day.

If he didn't detest his wife before this, he does now.

by Anonymousreply 18September 30, 2021 6:29 PM
Dog last night presented evidence of Brian being on that small island. Specifically he papped a Monster XXX energy drink can and a small purse. The latter is believed to have been given to him by his mother after she reported him missing.

That's not evidence that we know of, and even if it turns out to be evidence, some moron is holding the can with their bare hands.

The whole thing about the purse is that his mom was allegedly spotted with Monster cans in her purse, but you can't really tell what's in her purse. To me it might be one can but also a thing of chocolate milk, and we're seeing those items in her purse/bag as she walks into the house, not out of it "on the way to give Brian supplies" like people are claiming.

by Anonymousreply 19September 30, 2021 6:38 PM

R19, As discussed on Twitter, Dog knows that DNA evidence will permanently remain on the can no matter how he or anyone else holds it. Also he was careful to hold just the top part where it's the hardest to get DNA.

by Anonymousreply 20September 30, 2021 6:41 PM

My brother was not a murderer, but the dynamic of our family is as R19 describes.

My brother was an addict, couldn’t keep a job, always begging to be bailed out and rescued from dealers….while my father was disgusted and drunk, my mother was always finding away to save brother again and again.

by Anonymousreply 21September 30, 2021 6:41 PM
Nobody knew that they went camping with their son until that dog guy got involved.

That's not true. The public may not have known the exact dates (or location), but we DID know that the Laundries had gone camping, well before that fame-whore Dog got involved. A few of the Laundries' neighbors mentioned it in early interviews, right after the story broke.

by Anonymousreply 22September 30, 2021 7:06 PM

"and the bubble-headed bleach-blond, workin' on her siiiiite - lil Brian killed her, one dark Wyoming niiiiiight. The news loves it when those white girls die, give us dirrrrrty Launddddrie"

by Anonymousreply 23September 30, 2021 7:10 PM

Did the neighbors know that Brian went with his parents to go camping after he came home without Gabby? And they were telling the newscasters? And yet the FBI is running around a swamp because his parents said that's where he was? The FBI sounds like a bunch of dumbasses. His parents know everything and are coming and going as they please. Let them do their job. Just like the cops in Wyoming who gave Brian a ticket to kill despite what citizens were telling them.

by Anonymousreply 24September 30, 2021 8:05 PM

We have absolutely no proof that the mother gave any more help/aid/whatever to Brian than the father did. This is a grown-ass man who is fully able-bodied and capable of speech. Nothing was stopping him from doing the right thing. Both parents belong behind bars.

by Anonymousreply 25September 30, 2021 8:23 PM

I agree, r25. Why the quick judgment against the mother? I don’t see the father being stifled anywhere.

Neighbors have repeatedly stated that they saw Brian after Sept 1 but definitely not after the 3-day camping trip with his parents.

Parents kept calling 9-11 whenever they heard protesters outside their door or on their lawn.

R30 those police visits were before this was ever public.

by Anonymousreply 31September 30, 2021 10:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 32September 30, 2021 10:11 PM

"We have absolutely no proof that the mother gave any more help/aid/whatever to Brian than the father did. "

Pure speculation and assumption, based on stereotyping. All we know is that both parents seem to have helped their murderous boy escape, and neither is cooperating with law enforcement. They appear to be engaged in a folie a deux.

And it is a folie a deux. People who keep enabling and supporting their worthless offspring usually justify it by saying that one day he'll straighten out and be the son they feel entitled to, but that can't happen now. He's now a fugitive from justice facing anything from decades in prison or the death penalty, and he's nationally notorious. He will never be able to live a normal life, they can't save him, but they can go down with him, into his self-created morass of notoriety and criminal charges.

by Anonymousreply 33September 30, 2021 10:18 PM

You don't get decades in prison or the death penalty for unauthorized use of a debit card, the only crime he's been charged with SO FAR.

Comment from elsewhere on the internet,

Joseph laundries, Brian's uncle, owns a yacht business with two different locations. One is near.where Dog has been searching. Another one. is called Montauk yachts

by Anonymousreply 36September 30, 2021 10:36 PM

He should already be in a country where there's no extradition treaty if he could possibly face the death penalty.

by Anonymousreply 37September 30, 2021 10:41 PM

If the Laundries had had sense, someone in the family should have bought a boat for cash, and sent Brian out into the Caribbean and told him to stick to international waters and uninhabited places. Or to head up the west cost of Florida, which is largely undeveloped wetlands, and a man with a boat has millions of little islands and channels to use as hiding places. Or told him to head north through international waters to Canada, where the east coast is thinly populated, and where they wouldn't extradite him if he faces the death penalty.

He isn't hiding on that tiny island where he went camping, but he could have used it as a jumping-off point.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 38September 30, 2021 10:49 PM

Well he's been sighted in Canada so it would make sense if he went there. Considering that it's obvious his parents will help him in any way possible and they've been playing law enforcement officials for time he could already be free and clear.

When the police men and women and members of the FBI appear to have gone to the Keystone Cops school of criminal justice he might never have to answer for Gabby's death.

by Anonymousreply 39September 30, 2021 11:01 PM

The FBI is taking samples from the Laundries'camper. I wonder what was in that cup.

Why didn't Brian and Gabby buy a camper like his Mom and Dad's (around 6k or so, shower, toliet, stove, TV, etc) and a reliable truck to pull it, instead of that tiny-ass, claustrophobic death van, that more or less, in its own small way, basically led to this girl's murder?

by Anonymousreply 41September 30, 2021 11:18 PM

Because having a van is required to be a van dweller.

The Laundrie Family Lawyer is a real clown. Remember before Gabby was found and Brian was missing, he told the media TWO families are suffering thru her disappearance. Idiot. But Law Enforcement should have yanked the family to the Police Station weeks ago. Just because you have a lawyer doesn't mean you don't have to go to the Police Station to plead the fifth. Maybe they would have confessed to everything they know?...Not to mention Brian might turn have turned himself in if he heard about Mommy sitting in a Police Station talking to cops. There is no down side to dragging them in for questioning. I predict a lot of legal problems for Mommy and Daddy.

by Anonymousreply 43September 30, 2021 11:29 PM

R42, so it's a question of "influencer" credibility, having actual Van as a crucial requirement, as opposed to a Camper or RV? Was the whole #vanlife hashtag that important to Gabby's "dream" of one million subscribers?? I guess I don't really understand the motivations they had.. at all?

by Anonymousreply 44September 30, 2021 11:34 PM

She wanted to be a Social Media Stah, Baby!

And she wanted to get there through #VanLife

Dumb ambition, but I’m sorry she got murdered for it :(

by Anonymousreply 47October 1, 2021 4:26 AM

There's new bodycam footage today and it shows what happened before the second cop (the first video released) approached the back of the police car. At 4:20, cop #1 asks her about marks on her cheek and upper arm. He asks if she had been hit in the face and she pauses and says, "I don't know." She takes a long time inspecting her arm and again says she doesn't know.

She finally comes up with a story about trying to climb into the back of the van and accidentally scratching herself on a backpack. He tells her what the witnesses saw and then it's just a repeat of what we've already seen, only with better audio and no glare from the sun.
it's just a repeat of what we've already seen

Let me correct myself. What I should have said is that it's where the first video picked up. We've seen the rest of that particular interaction with her saying she had hit him first, but this new video is fifty-two minutes long.

by Anonymousreply 49October 1, 2021 4:42 AM

It is pretty astounding Law Enforcement is being made a fool of because they cannot catch this clown. They know where to find his accomplices--also known as Mommy and Daddy.

by Anonymousreply 50October 1, 2021 4:55 AM

Brian was the one who wanted to do the traveling, Gabby agreed and suggested the social media aspect, which makes sense because it would give her something to do and might bring in some money. Brian never seemed to care about money, his parents and Gabby were the ones with income. Based on the IG posts that we know about and the bodycam videos, I think Gabby comes across as someone who was trying to do what her boyfriend liked to do.

I don't find the criticism of the social media aspect of this and all the "dumb ambition" stuff to be fair, it just sounds like aging cranks complaining about kids these days.

by Anonymousreply 51October 1, 2021 5:49 AM

R51 = Your armchair analysis makes you sound dumb.. And you also are not from America. Stay in your country. Who cares what you think.

by Anonymousreply 53October 1, 2021 6:15 AM

"I don't find the criticism of the social media aspect of this and all the "dumb ambition" stuff to be fair, it just sounds like aging cranks complaining about kids these days."

Young people have always wanted to abandon their school or work and just travel, ever since travel became possible! It's a natural and common desire, so much so that sending your son on a "grand tour" when he graduated from university became a long-standing tradition, in my day kids in their early 20s would spend summers backpacking over Europe or India, or hitchhiking across the US.

Sure, Gabby hoped to make her trip pay for itself, and why not give that a try if it costs nothing. Because kids of 22 have been taking trips like that forever, if social media didn't exist they might have gone anyway. It's just that IMHO the social media aspect of this case is one of the things that's made it a good story, it's on top of the zeitgeist.

by Anonymousreply 54October 1, 2021 6:24 AM

R53 = Exactly. Buying toys for their future killer instead of telling him to grow the fuck up and get a real job and get the fuck out of the house. That mustang says a lot about the Laundry family dynamic. They wanted to be the "cool" parents.

Brian's uncle sells boats according to a poster on Reddit.

by Anonymousreply 61October 1, 2021 11:51 AM

Families don’t just become criminals because a kid has. The parents are into some private shit. You know who gets treated like this? People with mafia ties.

by Anonymousreply 62October 1, 2021 12:09 PM

It's plausible that the parents have a few lightly sketchy business endeavors and they thought (wrongly) that Brian running off would keep the police from paying too much attention to them.

I also think they could have happily bought into some lie Brian told them about how Gabby was abusive and he needed to get away before she returned.

But every time I start speculating about various scenarios, I always come back to the week they spent clearing out the storage unit. I hate to say it but it just really feels like planning or premeditation.

by Anonymousreply 63October 1, 2021 12:45 PM

Now that they've released a second officer's bodycam footage from the Moab stop, we know that Gabby told the police that Brian had hit her and scratched her face.

Later of course the officers ask Brian about a scratch on his face. Again, like I said in one of the other threads, they were pulling a both-sides thing to try to make it seem like both were abusing each other.

Super suspicious that the first bodycam footage had the part where Gabby says she was hit edited out.

The cop whose bodycam recorded the first video is standing farther away and what she’s saying is partially obscured by traffic noise, but it’s there.

What is odd is that the version uploaded this morning by Fox 13 in Tampa removes the first ten minutes, i.e., the whole discussion of hitting, and starts with the cop is getting water bottles for her. Compare this video with the one at R48.

by Anonymousreply 70October 1, 2021 4:37 PM

The idiots blasting bullhorns in front of the Laundrie home and disturbing the peace of the entire neighborhood 24/7 are MAGAtards. I guess this is example of their inter-election activities. To be more specific, it may just be this mouth-breather and his mom.

He picks fights, which he's already done at least once, going into a neighbor's yard and hassling him. The neighbor pushed him away, supposedly to get him off his yard, and the whiny MAGA grifter called the cops and got the neighbor arrested.

by Anonymousreply 74October 1, 2021 5:11 PM

exactly what do they think they are accomplishing?

by Anonymousreply 75October 1, 2021 5:12 PM

I can see a scenario where both Gabby and Brian had scratch marks, etc. However, wouldn’t she have inflicted them on Brian if she was defending herself? Maybe she looked at it as a mutual fight, or her fault, but the police should know better. By a huge percentage, domestic violence ends up with the man killing/inflicting damage on the woman.

by Anonymousreply 76October 1, 2021 5:12 PM

R68, Cassie weighs about 275. Wtf would she be doing camping? Hot, humid, sweaty. Zero fat people enjoy camping. Why was she there?

by Anonymousreply 77October 1, 2021 5:16 PM

To say goodbye to her little brother before he took a run for the border, I'm guessing.

by Anonymousreply 78October 1, 2021 5:18 PM

The Sister's kids and boyfriend weren't there, either. Obviously, this camping trip was a "family crisis" meeting, convened in order to concoct the best way to get Brian outta Dodge.

by Anonymousreply 79October 1, 2021 5:21 PM

"Being that after millions of dollars lost in the fruitless swamp search"

We have no idea whether it was "fruitless" or not. Do you really think the FBI is going to call a press conference and hold up items of evidence, like, "Hey, Public-- look what we found today!" If this *is* a two-pronged investigation, and they are trying to link Gabby to the lesbian couple (which I believe they are), they are going to hold their cards as close to the vest as possible, so Laundrie doesn't find out and do something desperate. They want him alive.

by Anonymousreply 80October 1, 2021 5:23 PM

Police should arrest those maga assholes outside the Laundrie home. I saw the video of the neighbor snapping. He was goaded by the magas who are STUNT QUEENS. Loud mouth assholes. How interesting even the Laundrie neighbors are arrested before the fucking garbage Laundries!

When the mom maga screamed at the neighbor, I thought of Jeffery Spaide. Pow! “You should have kept your fucking mouth shut”

by Anonymousreply 81October 1, 2021 5:24 PM

Those “protestors” look like the weirdo types that would show up at post offices and stand there and video saying they were “auditing” . Why aren’t they being arrested?

by Anonymousreply 82October 1, 2021 5:26 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they're not being arrested because the cops agree with their politics.

by Anonymousreply 83October 1, 2021 5:27 PM
Maybe she looked at it as a mutual fight, or her fault, but the police should know better.

by Anonymousreply 85October 1, 2021 5:39 PM

.We have no idea whether it was "fruitless" or not.'

The entire country was wondering what they were doing in that swamp. They said it was because his parents told them he was taking a hike among the alligators. The FBI looked like fools coming up with nothing spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a day. Usually press conferences are held to say they have possible clues so that people know progress is being made.

Even Sheriff Judd of Tampa Bay said at a press conference they would have not handled the situation the way it was handled. For him to publicly criticize law enforcement colleagues you know he thinks they were a bunch of idiots or he would have said nothing allowing them to do things the way they saw fit without judgement.

If he'd just tried to take the van (and her phone) and leave her behind, she had ample reason to lie and downplay what he'd done, because she would have been afraid he'd get mad and hit and abandon her again.

I don't have time to go through it again so please feel free to correct me if I'm off on the timeline, but I think she says early on he hit her and scratched her face, then later modifies her story to try to make it seem like it was both of them doing some light hitting, it wasn't that bad, he didn't really do much of anything. She may have realized the situation was going south and was trying to get the cops out of there quicker before Brian got really riled up again.
Someone made a post here earlier today, wish I could find it. They had a theory that was ridiculed. And they mentioned that Gaby was given a citation and had to show up at court, zoom court on the 27th. Everyone said this person had their facts wrong because she was not charged with anything at all. Just wanted to note. This person was correct, Gabby was not charged but she WAS cited. And she WAS going to be live at virtual court. The lawyer on JB's thing confirmed it.

JB is the guy on WLFA who does livestreams on YouTube.

After seeing her panic about how far she’ll have to go to pick him up and saying she never really drives the van, I’m wondering how much of this was actually her idea.

A get-rich-quick scheme using her face and labor seems more in keeping with his character. He gets to travel around and avoid adulthood while he pressures her to come up with new content, edit it, and market it while simultaneously trashing her self-esteem and telling her she fails at everything and is ruining “her” influencer dreams. This, after he gave up his whole summer to drive the van and support her!

She spends more and more time working on it hoping to gain his approval and he just rages because now she isn’t paying attention to him 24 hours a day.

“Gabby never goes outside.”
I thought the video was surely a parody, then I read the comments praising and encouraging this scary and whack-ass behavior.

There are so many people in Twitter and Reddit comments who are absolutely over-invested in this, they talk constantly about how they're shaking, nauseated, can't sleep. They got the idea that this could be solved online and now they don't want to stop "looking for clues."

On top of that there are a lot of MRAs, incels, MAGAts, and other assorted trash who gravitated to this story when they first thought Gabby had been the aggressor and Brian was an innocent, delicate, pasty white trash flower. There were other trolls using the "you only care because she's blonde" angle to start troll threads. They're still around and they're causing enough of a fuss that other usually normal people are sticking around, trying to combat the trolling.

We had MRAs on here of course, they always show up in a crime thread like this, but there was also someone who spent days posting "who cares?" replies and new threads, hoping to cause fights and distractions. This crime is a troll magnet.

by Anonymousreply 136October 2, 2021 12:50 PM

I finally watched Gabby's #vanlife video on YouTube, the sum total of her social media goals. It's very sad, she's portraying their life on the go, as this hyper-romantic adventure, multiple kisses, Sushi, handstands on the beach, arcade games, etc when it was clearly nothing like that, at all. The opposite, in fact. It's pretty upsetting to think about, that this young girl idealized her situation like that, so deliberately, a true facade.

It seems like the blow up at the Mexican restaurant was what led to her death. The same evening, her mother got a text, purportedly from Gabby, who referred to her Grandfather as "Stan". Gotta think she was dead by then.

Also, just how long does it take to drive from Wyoming to Florida?

by Anonymousreply 137October 2, 2021 3:29 PM

According to google maps, it's about 2000-plus miles from Wyoming to Florida, depending on where you start or finish. and by car it takes 30-odd hours without stopping. Of course none of us elderfarts could drive that far without stopping to rest, but Brian L. is at the age when a person can stay up all night with no ill effects... even if he wasn't highly motivated to get back to the only people on Earth who'd help him.

So I would say that it's... possible that Brian drove all that way in 36 hours, give or take a few.

So I read this on Reddit (sin #1) and I can't find the post (sin #2) PLUS I didn't watch all the camera footage (sin #3) but someone on Reddit posted that Gaby was asking for water and when they asked Brian he said he "doesn't use plastic". All the frau's are now convinced he would do things like ration her water and restrict her diet (well, it wouldn't surprise me). I guarantee if Bryan was/is such a douche, smug asshole about his plastics and being Mr.Environment he WILL get caught eating a big ass burger out of a Hardee's dumpster. It's always the loudest, irrational ones that still tend to do all the stuff they lecture about in private. Look, when I was college age, there were times when I stayed up all night to write papers or watch movies, and my cooler peers would stay up all night to party or whatever. Even without manic energy, people in their early 20s can stay up and function for 36 hours if they can get enough caffeine. And well, it's not like a man who's just committed a murder is going to be able to sleep anyway.

by Anonymousreply 158October 2, 2021 9:39 PM

Moab, Utah population-5,000. My town's population- 50,000. Three young people were brutally murdered there within a couple of weeks. Are residents not worried for their lives? I know in my town, nobody could rest until the killer/s were found.

I checked the timelines again. I wonder if they have and good leads on the Schulte/Turner case. Petito and Laundry were checked by LE on Thurs., 8/12 in Moab, Utah when Petito spent the night in her van and Laundrie got the hotel room. Turner & Schulte were last seen in Moab, Utah in a bar on Fri., 7/13. Somebody knows something. The reward now in the Petito case is up to, what, $20,000! Money talks. These two cases should be solved by now.

Unnerved the father then called LE and was blown off. Still upset he checked the local media and learned about the 2 women complaining about a creepy bald man who matched the same descriptions of the jerk.

Don't know if LE ever contacted any of the 100 guests at the very nearby wedding. Organizers had given full info an all participants & employees yet they were never interviewed re anyone unusual they might have seen.

Wouldn't security cameras have recorded any creeper camping in the area? Were fees charges so park rangers would have had vehicle info? Such was the case of my recent camping trips in AZ and UT.

They weren’t at a campground, r165. People automatically assumed that it happened at Warner Lake, but their campsite was on the other side of Whispering Oaks Ranch — up La Sal Loop Rd, left on FR4651, and then left onto a dirt trail. There are no gates or entrance fees.

Anyone could have taken a short walk along the creek from Whispering Oaks and not be seen on the road.

What if the married women's killer is a "creepy bald" misogynistic/homophobic LEO? This would explain why local LE isn't too keen to follow up on the case. Letting it hang on Laundrie would also be extremely convenient. Not that Brian should be disregarded as a suspect, but any motive is rather sketchy. Unless this punk really is a serial killer who finally blossomed. Or at least who finally fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 168October 3, 2021 2:00 AM

R168, Everything you suggested was discussed all over the internet and especially on certain conspiracy sites immediately after the 2 women were murdered.

Possible time lines were created, detailed maps drawn of the distance between Woody's bar, the 2 places were the women worked, and where their bodies were found.

Important that absolutely none of their coworkers, friends, casual observers mentioned the possibility of an irate customer with a violent steak, a stalker, etc. The women were well liked by all who met them.

There were no conclusions except that it was likely a homophobic act from a stranger.

Could LE want to ignore the case as it's "bad for tourists?" Was it just overshadowed by the other case?

“I think it’s coming.” – Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg says.

He also explains why the full autopsy report hasn’t been released. (LE officers likely are holding the details of the report closely in order to help them flush out the person or people involved in the homicide.)

And what would it take for Brian’s parents to be charged? (Doing something that clearly breaks the law, like scrubbing the van of evidence. Refusing to speak to LE is not against the law because they have the right to remain silent.)

Interesting to note how invested and identified with this case people get, like Chris and Shanann Watts and Corrie McKeague, to the point of becoming seriously emotionally affected. The impact of social media and true crime podcasts?

by Anonymousreply 176October 3, 2021 7:29 PM

True crime is a long-standing genre in literature and film (in the U.S. at least) The Black Dahlia case is a good example that's spawned decades of fascination and revisiting the case, some good lit (e.g. James Ellroy), and film. The Manson murders is another. Even before that lurid stories sold newspapers at a time when there were many in a single city and newsboys sold them on street corners. Thinking of the Lindbergh kidnapping. Negative information more easily captures people's attention and when it reminds us of mortality and sheer dumb bad luck more so.

The emotional overinvestment to the point of obsession is where it gets weird and it seems new. I can understand family and friends of Gabby's protesting in front of the Laundrie home for a little while, but complete strangers who have disrupted the neighborhood for two weeks now? It's bad enough that they have to deal with media trucks and looky loos, but a hostile group tramping all over their property? I guess it's the hothouse atmosphere of SM...

It’s a an eventuality that a nut with a gun shows up.

by Anonymousreply 178October 3, 2021 8:08 PM

Lame that the FBI hasn’t found this loser yet.

by Anonymousreply 179October 3, 2021 8:24 PM

R177 yep. It was interesting to see the split in terms of emotional investment on Shanann Watts, about half of Facebook literally deified her, and the other half started off sympathetic but then did a volte-face and completely turned on her. That was one the first of these cases I really very closely followed, heard about it on Datalounge as a matter of fact.

by Anonymousreply 180October 3, 2021 8:46 PM

R179, Previously the NY Post stated that there was a sighting of Brian near or in North Carolina. He was driving an off white truck very similar to what his grandfather owns. Grandfather lives in North Carolina.

One would think the FBI would immediately post Wanted posters all over gas stations in the surrounding area after either NY Post reveal.

That the FBI is still focused on the swamp leads one to question if they really want to catch Brian.

by Anonymousreply 181October 3, 2021 9:09 PM
The emotional overinvestment to the point of obsession is where it gets weird and it seems new.

I would lay the performative social-media histrionics at the feet of My Favorite Murder, which was the gateway drug. They're addicted to the attention as well as over-the-top comforting the most distraught of the distraught receive: "Ohhh, Kayleeygh! You're sooooo dedicated to [victim] and I knooooowww she's telling the other angels how proud she is of you!! But PLEASE take care of yourself!! We all love you sooo much and [victim] NEEDS you to stay healthy, girl!!!!"

MFM was the first podcast to really rope in millennial (and younger) women and it also coincided with Michelle McNamara investigation of EAR/ONS. The fact that Michelle McNamara never got anywhere close is completely ignored and now we have an army of Reddit and TikTok superdetectives thinking they're going to solve the next big crime, just like she did.

The guy who finished writing her book, Billy whatever, wrote his own on how to become a "citizen detective" and part of his advice is identifying yourself as a victim advocate if you decide to contact murder victims' families. That's what he does, he said; he doesn't tell them that he's a podcaster or former journalist.

Before, true crime online seems to have been mostly blogs devoted to specific crimes, a bunch of shut-ins on Websleuths, and one annual convention. Since then, true crime has become an identity as well as a cottage industry with Etsy stores selling "Choke Me Like Bundy; Eat Me Like Dahmer" t-shirts and "True Crime and Pumpkin Spice" mugs.

by Anonymousreply 182October 3, 2021 9:35 PM

Well we should go back to a time when executions were public.

I think Brian should be guillotined rather than hanged. It would be compellingly macabre to see his shiny bald chuckling head rolling around on the scaffold.

by Anonymousreply 183October 3, 2021 10:48 PM

This was weird too = after knowing Laundrie went to Desoto Park with Mommy and Daddy = "Another location, Fort De Soto Campground in Pinellas County, has also become an area of interest, though NO OFFICIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BODY is INVESTIGATING THE CAMPGROUND" (CNN)----------->WTF? You are not searching one of the last verifiable locations they know Brian was at?.....No wonder they cannot find this clown. He is an IDIOT and so are the searchers...

by Anonymousreply 187October 4, 2021 1:06 AM

No, Brian's lawyer will claim that Brian was abused by a tiny little girl, and that the death was sdlf-defense, manslaughter, or justifiable homicide. Or suicide.

by Anonymousreply 188October 4, 2021 2:03 AM

When he is caught considering how incompetent everyone is if he is found guilty the judge will just give Brian a sentence of anger management classes.

by Anonymousreply 189October 4, 2021 2:35 AM

R189, Hope you're wrong but any guesses of the real reason re why LE & FBI are so incompetent? Do they not want to catch Brian?

by Anonymousreply 195October 4, 2021 3:59 AM

He's probably hooked up with another girl by now. Brian's used to being taken care of by Gabby, Mommy, Daddy, and lard sister. Those voices of his aren't going to be much help out in the real world; if they were he wouldn't have been such a huge waste and mooching off of his 22 year old girlfriend and family. No skills, no useful education, running out of money and no way for Mommy and Daddy and lard sister to get him more because the feds are watching them. He'll have to land another small blonde girl who doesn't know he's a loser and a killer to bankroll him.

If he doesn't then God forbid he might just have to turn himself in or, even worse, GET A FUCKING JOB.

Whut? He didnt and doesn't know anyone involved in this mess. How in the fuck, could he claim to "miss her", and include other people he doesn't even know in his little statement?

I can understand being sympathetic, or bummed out, but this whole websleuth/Reddit phenom has gone way too far. Don't these people have jobs, lives, or responsibilities, beyond going over the edge over a person they never even met, or heard of a month ago? It's all pretty disturbing to me.

R223, Gabby has been labeled "Americas's daughter."

Meanwhile Brian's sister has been accusing her parents' lawyer, and therefore her parents, of throwing her and her husband (and their grandson) "under the bus." Exactly what was her involvement in trying to help her brother?

These Protesters remind me of the Self Proclaimed "Video Vigilante" in Oklahoma. He would go to neighbors houses (with the local news) to knock on the doors of people who got arrested and he would hand out fliers "warning" the neighbors. He went to a gay park (Trosper Park) to film gay sinners--then post the video online. He had all kinds of antics going. But you know what they had in common? He was asking for donations (this was before gofundme). He wanted to "clean up" the gay park so a Donation Website was created. He didn't like the District Attorney, so he created a Donation Website. He wanted to "clean up his neighborhood so his kids could live in a safe place'---->>it turns out he DID NOT even live in the neighborhood and has NO kids..Etc Etc..He called himself a Commercial Activist...Finally HE got arrested. Mugshot on Smoking Gun...He used to Brag online how much the Maury Show would pay him for going on his show..

R232 = Westboro used to protest a lot. This was before social media and cell phone cameras. We used to see them all the time in Oklahoma City at major intersections. They would show up to Pride Festivals creating hell. What you might not know is the Police would be at their protests protecting THEM. Westboros would be calling people Queers Fagz etc and trying to provoke people because they knew the cops were right there to keep them from getting an ass whipping. I was there when Barney Frank was at a Tulsa Pride Parade and went over to talk to them and all they did was scream non stop---dialogue wasn't really their thing...The last Westboro Protest I saw was 4 people at the corner of Western and Wiltshire screaming their heads off. It was really pathetic at that point. They lost their momentum for sure and Social Media replaced them as the "go to" place for spreading hate.

Lying to law enforcement IS a crime, but we don't know that she's done that, or done it to a degree worthy of prosecution. Gabby stayed in a hotel while Brian was back in Florida. It has always been known that he made that trip back home. Gabby had spoken about it to friends and family. From what she had told them, the understanding was that the Laundrie family was emptying out storage units that they had rented during a previous move and that Gabby and Brian had belongings in the units and so Brian went home to sort through the storage units.

by Anonymousreply 251October 5, 2021 8:08 PM

Brian flew back to Florida from his road trip of terror to clean out storage units and the then flew back to Utah again? Then he killed Gabby after killing the lesbian couple and that 40 something year old man who left his daughters to go on a hike?

This story keeps getting more convoluted and nonsensical as more information drips out. Instead of trying to make sense of any of it just exterminate the entire Laundrie family and make the world a better less confusing place.

In addition to what appears to be a legitimate testimony, and Cassie Laundrie now coming clean (especially in the manner that she did), it wouldn't surprise me if BL was located within the next week or two.

I wonder if the authorities have some kind of obstruction charge they can lay on BL's parents. Seems like that could be a tactic to draw him out.

by Anonymousreply 266October 6, 2021 1:14 AM

Five sightings place BL near the NC/Tennessee border-area on 28 September. Several sightings link him to a Hyundai Sonata registered to BL's uncle (already mentioned in this thread), as well as young woman (Jennifer Laundrie).

BL's uncle has a home in New Bern, NC (not too far from the East Coast; about 480 miles due east of NC/Tennessee border sightings). A contact of Skyline news says he saw BL "in the bushes" near the uncle's home on 29 September (though, the account does sound sketchy). The police investigated and discounted this, which Skyline still disputes based on the activity occurring in that area. I'm not sure how much this makes sense if the Florida engineer's sighting was on 2 October, as it creates an odd back and fourth. If the engineer sighting was 25 September, then it make a trip to New Bern more linear.

The Florida engineer also reports that BL was driving a pickup truck.

Those sound less like protestors and more like vigilantes.

The point where the guy filming said he didn't want anything bad to happen to her parents, like storming their house for example, was genuinely a bit creepy. Reminds me of the 'Dark Justice' anti-paedophile vigilantes that are all over Facebook the last couple of years.

Engineer stated he called FBI/LE immediately and was disappointed in their lack of response.

On his behalf his wife posted details of his encounter on social media threads re Gabby and especially on Twitter.

Dog's daughter quickly contacted engineer's wife with a recording of Brian's voice. Engineer confirmed it was the seemingly disoriented man he encountered who wanted to know the way to California. There's a California in the Appalachian Trails area. Not confirmed if that was the locale of which Brian was speaking.

Eventually NY Post picked up the story of the engineer's encounter.

by Anonymousreply 277October 6, 2021 3:59 AM

R257 Thanks for posting that first-hand account. Boy listening to him tell what happened made the hairs on my neck stand up. Just in time for Halloween.

I hope we get more first-hand accounts like this. It sounds like Brian has an enabler or two as he mosies on out to California.

by Anonymousreply 278October 6, 2021 4:03 AM

Brians lawyer is an idiot. If Brian was smart he would come out of hiding for 15 minutes to announce he fired his lawyer. Then go back on the run....LoL....Is Law Enforcement still running around the swamps? At this point even the Crocs are probably laughing.

by Anonymousreply 279October 6, 2021 4:14 AM

R261 Brian is thought to have a license for Concealed Carry, so he most likely has a gun with him.

by Anonymousreply 280October 6, 2021 4:44 AM

R280 = I do not believe Brian is running around with a gun and the cops haven't warned the public. I just find that too much of a stretch. Can you imagine the police NOT warning people and he goes on a rampage? They already put up with being accused of letting Brian get away. They haven't even warned the public to not approach Brian if they see him. I really think there might be problems with the Gabby Autopsy. There has to be some reason they haven;t filed murder charges yet.
"Cassie LIED in her interview on Sept 17 "

R237: She claims she didn't lie to ABC on Sept 17th -- the way they edited the interview for broadcast was misleading. Having re-watched it, and having read the full transcript....I'm inclined to agree with/believe her. It was misleading.

She never said that she hadn't spoken to Brian since his *return* to Florida. It was the ABC reporter who stated "since his return" on the broadcast voice-over -- and then it immediately cut to a snippet of Cassie saying: "I haven't been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him."

She was referencing that she hadn't spoken to him since Gabby was reported missing (Sept 11th) & it became a big story. The question she was asked, which viewers didn't hear: "As his sister, what is the oddest thing about all of this?" (referring to the whole situation with her parents' behavior & Brian's subsequent disappearance, etc).

To which she replied: "That I haven't been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him." (ABC edited "That" out in the snippet they used)

Not sure if the ABC producers were trying to "juice" the story by making it appear that Cassie lied....or they were just truly incompetent/got it wrong. It could go either way.

by Anonymousreply 282October 6, 2021 5:47 AM

"I wonder if the authorities have some kind of obstruction charge they can lay on BL's parents. Seems like that could be a tactic to draw him out."

IMHO Brian won't lift a finger to save his parents. He's spoiled, entitled, immature, and utterly selfish, and the events of the last few weeks will only have reinforced his belief that his parents only exist to support him. If they're arrested and sent to jail for protecting him, and he remains free, he will be very angry at them for getting into a situation where they can't send him money.

by Anonymousreply 283October 6, 2021 6:12 AM

COMPLETELY agree with everything r283 said.
If they're arrested and sent to jail for protecting him, and he remains free, he will be very angry at them for getting into a situation where they can't send him money.

R283, yet, without money, his options would dry up and rob the little hope he would have surviving on his own.

by Anonymousreply 285October 6, 2021 6:29 AM
I really think there might be problems with the Gabby Autopsy. There has to be some reason they haven;t filed murder charges yet.

For a coroner to conclude that Gabby was murdered and for investigators to decide they have sufficient evidence to bring murder charges against Laundrie are different things entirely.

by Anonymousreply 286October 6, 2021 6:40 AM

You need a gun if you're living in the swamp (or wilderness). Snakes, crocs, how do you eat when you run out of food? It would be very easy for him to get guns from that uncle, if not from ma and pa kettle in FL.

As far as LE not warning the public - what do you expect? They look so incompetent, spending millions on that nearby swamp, walking around in waist high water, ignoring the eye witness hundreds of miles to the north (apparently)... Did Trump gut the FBI like he did the post office? He moved us quite a way toward "third world" status. And I guess, considering our moronic population taken as a whole, we deserve it.

by Anonymousreply 287October 6, 2021 7:45 AM

At this point, I don't believe Cassie's insistence that she doesn't know anything about Brian's whereabouts or his involvement in Gabby's murder. She says that the last time she saw Brian was on September 6, just 5 days before Gabby was reported missing. She also says she didn't suspect anything unusual. Then how does she explain Brian showing up back in Florida in Gabby's van? Without Gabby?!

She says that her parents should "come clean" if they know anything about Brian's current location and that she would turn in Brian if she knew where he is. But I don't believe for a second her acting as if she'd easily sell Brian down the river, as if he's a mere brother from another udder. She and her parents may truthfully not know exactly where he is right now, but they definitely helped him escape. Anything she says right now is out of sheer self-preservation because she knows she's looking at serious jail time if/when Brian is caught.

R289, what you think is irrelevant, Cinecunt.

by Anonymousreply 291October 6, 2021 9:00 AM

She sure didn't seem to give a shit that Gabby had been murdered - strangled!

Wasn't Gabby living with the parents for a year or so? And the sister has like no fucks to give? The single most important thing about this case is that she was murdered - probably by your evil brother, bitch -- not that poor widdle you couldn't talk to your bubba. Like who cares? and who believes it's even true? She could talk to him plenty on that camping trip, with him smiling with the young cousin or whatever - and Gabby's where? -- oh you didn't care, did you?

by Anonymousreply 292October 6, 2021 9:01 AM

Exactly. She's obviously trying to cover her own ass now after she already helped aid and abet her homicidal brother. She's lucky if she doesn't get shanked in federal prison for helping cover up the murder of America's daughter.

by Anonymousreply 293October 6, 2021 9:21 AM
She also says she didn't suspect anything unusual. Then how does she explain Brian showing up back in Florida in Gabby's van? Without Gabby?!

She didn't go to the house, she just met them at the campground, and may not have known he brought the van back. She said she'd seen them fighting so maybe when she was told they'd broken up, it wasn't a huge surprise to her.

If Brian was sticking with some story like they broke up, Gabby had been hitting him ("even the police officers noticed it"), she'd left on her own and would come back for the van at a later date, he could have easily asked his family to not respond to Gabby and her parents or talk about it because he was really upset.

The mom and dad would have realized it was a tall tale at some point because Gabby's parents were texting and asking for information, but the sister was out of the loop. For all we know she had no idea any of this was going on until Brian went on the lam, and then she put two and two together and is now both mad and terrified at the position she's been put in.

by Anonymousreply 295October 6, 2021 11:19 AM

It's quite possible that she has zero interest in her brother's life and no curiosity about his relationship with his girlfriend. She can't very easily admit "I paid no attention to what was going on with him because I don't particularly like him or his girlfriend".

That she had never been to the parent's house and seen the van? If that's her story she sure hasn't made that clear. Now she's throwing everyone under the bus because the lawyer told her not to talk and because of that she's being harassed so she's talking.

The family should have made sure he killed himself OR turned him in. Don't let loose a deluded insane murderous person like Brian. It's even mean to Brian. There's always the possibility if he is criminally insane he could get medicated in the psychiatric prison. This might help the victims parents make sense of the act, too. A certifiably insane person.

Dog the Bounty Hunter and all of the Reddit losers are easy to make fun of, but to be honest they are doing more than law enforcement at this point, and seem to have found and processed much more information as to his whereabouts.

by Anonymousreply 307October 6, 2021 3:14 PM

R306, Van dwellers and campers who encountered a hitchhiking Brian at the end of August all said he talked about his GF as if they were still a happy couple. Then he acted nervous and even paranoid at the suggestion to meet her. In some cases he jumped out of their vehicle.

Clearly the boy's not dealing with reality.

by Anonymousreply 308October 6, 2021 3:55 PM

Also didn't Cassie begin to crack because of the nutty protesters in front of her house? Everything is getting scary for her and she's got to save her own skin. This is not a bad thing.

Underground bunkers exist in FL but not in the part where the Laundries live.

Had trouble posting that same Tik Tok video so thanks for doing it. Think it's imagination gone wild.

by Anonymousreply 318October 6, 2021 8:37 PM

Sister Laundrie probably doesn't know anything worth telling. She didn't live with her parents, she seems to only have seen Brian for a few hours after his return, and it's unlikely that she shares the parental believe that Brian must be protected at all costs.

Sibling relationships aren't all loving and protective. Sometimes they're best friends, sometimes there's deadly rivalry, sometimes they treat each other like shit, sometimes there's enough favoritism that they come to hate each other, etc. So my out-of-my-ass wild guess is that it's the last. Betcha Brian has always been the Golden Child, the one who's assumed to have a brilliant future and who gets endless family support in spite of his uselessness and fuckups. If I'm right, there's good odds that Sister Laundrie has hated him for years and the only thing that kept her from trying to throw him under the bus straight off was that her parents would never forgive her.

by Anonymousreply 319October 6, 2021 9:03 PM

Yep, r319. They say sibling rivalry really has nothing at all to do with the siblings' relationship to each other, and everything to do with the siblings' relationship with the parent(s).

by Anonymousreply 320October 6, 2021 9:23 PM

Didn't papa Laundrie say to Gabby - "now we'll get some good looks in the family!"

Something like that - can't remember where I heard that but it really stuck in my mind, knowing he had a sister who had at least one kid. Then after I saw her, it made sense. But woah it's cruel to say it.

by Anonymousreply 321October 6, 2021 10:10 PM

I have no idea what communication was like between Brian and his parents but he goes home from the 17th to the 23rd of August for storage unit clean out. Maybe he tells them about all the fighting and how this isn't a happy trip and he doesn't know if they should be together. Maybe parents see how bad his mental health is (it has been said he was hearing voices and had other mood issues happening) and tell him to come home. That he should break up with Gabby or at least come back to Florida. He flies back on the 23rd to Utah and meets up with Gabby again. I wonder if he talked to her about breaking up / leaving / ending the road trip and they got into a big fight and he killed her. This guy doesn't seem like a mastermind criminal. He sounds like someone with poor anger control who slightly out of touch with reality and in a high conflict relationship who loses it or overreacts or defends himself too violently. My guess is he is probably dead. I don't think he planned this and so the shock of realizing you killed your girlfriend then driving back to Florida with no sleep - acting like all is well and being in denial and then having that crash down and knowing you are about to go to jail for life along with being mentally ill was probably too much stress and guilt and embarrassment and he offed himself.

by Anonymousreply 322October 6, 2021 10:31 PM

I think Brian is too selfish, spoiled, immature, and douchey to kill himself this early in the game. IMHO if he ever kills himself, it'll be after he's run through all the money and help the family is willing to give him, and he's left with nothing but his own ability to survive in the wilderness or work for a living.

by Anonymousreply 323October 6, 2021 10:51 PM

I live in NC, went to ASU. If he was legit trying to hide, the NC/Tenn portion of the Appalachian Trail, would be the very last place he would run to. It's loaded with folks, especially this time of year.

by Anonymousreply 326October 7, 2021 12:00 AM

There's more a Wikipedia entry about this case.. It's a good summary for anyone interested.

by Anonymousreply 327October 7, 2021 12:21 AM

Apparently, Dog the Bounty Hunter's team has relayed that the man Dennis Davis saw on the Appalachian Trail in TN/NC was not BL (at 12:30).

As it stands, GP's mother reported her missing 11 September. The latest from the BL parents is that they last saw him 13 September. By then, the case had exploded. It sounds like the BL parents weren't prepared for how big this was going to get. They certainly have managed a "calm" front and protected themselves with a lawyer, even freezing out the daughter.

Perhaps BL is still in Florida. If he is, he succumbed to the elements and is probably dead floating somewhere in the Carlton Reserve, where the Mustang was found. Him being in the De Soto Park makes no sense, as it's a small area and essentially a dead-end.

by Anonymousreply 330October 7, 2021 1:48 AM

Why did Gabby's family wait so long to report her missing? They didn't know Brian had returned with her van and they weren't hounding the Laundrie family? Gabby is missing and Cassie takes not one but two vacations? Disneyworld and that De Soto camping trip. Did she and her family get on Ride of the Resistance?

She was using drugs and he didn’t agree...whatever would bring sympathy and paint him in victim or flattering life.

by Anonymousreply 333October 7, 2021 2:11 AM

^^^^light

by Anonymousreply 334October 7, 2021 2:13 AM

R325 Yes, girls and women still write in paper journals. Victims of domestic violence are encouraged to keep a hidden diary of all instances of abuse to use in case you need a restraining order or the abuser goes to trial.

When LE said that they found something of interest in the van, I thought it could be that they found a hidden diary or Gabby's iWatch that might have recorded her vital signs or GPS tracking.

Brian had her passwords and pins for her bank account and debit card. It's likely he knew the passwords to her laptop and phone.

by Anonymousreply 335October 7, 2021 2:49 AM

As discussed earlier in Part 1, Gabby's mother sensed immediately something was wrong as she kept in constant contact with her daughter.

Unfortunately LE has a waiting period for investigating missing adults.

Frustrated Gabyy's stepfather confronted the Laundrie's and was told by LE to back off.

by Anonymousreply 336October 7, 2021 3:15 AM

R336 Another problem was that Utah LE wouldn't let Gabby's mom declare her missing because Gabby was not a resident of Utah. Other states have the same law. Gabby's family is trying the change those laws.

by Anonymousreply 337October 7, 2021 3:30 AM

There is no proof Brian killed Gabby. People need to stop jumping to conclusions without any facts.

by Anonymousreply 338October 7, 2021 3:32 AM

R338 You idiot!

by Anonymousreply 339October 7, 2021 3:40 AM

r337, wouldn't it be Wyoming LE? I thought Gabby had made contact with her family, including at least once via FaceTime, from the area near the Tetons (where she went missing & was murdered).

by Anonymousreply 340October 7, 2021 3:53 AM

I'm not sure when the FaceTime was and where she was at, but we know GP was in Wyoming on 27 August at the Merry Piglet restaurant in Jackson at about 1:30 PM (? I forget the exact time).

The Bethune family video puts the van at Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Wyoming by 6 - 6:30 PM 27 Aug, 28 or so miles from the restaurant (her body was found nearby in a creek bed).

The "Stan" text from her mobile went out to GP's mother (which she believes wasn't from her) on 27 Aug (according to GP's mother). Not sure when the time was.

by Anonymousreply 341October 7, 2021 4:11 AM

Now that Cassie's beginning to crack the the Laundrie parents say they want to help law enforcement. Everybody's shitting a brick and it's probably due to harassment rather than the brain dead police force and FBI.

by Anonymousreply 342October 7, 2021 5:00 AM

So, the Mustang apparently was not in Carlton Reserve, but parked several miles east in Myakkahatchee Environmental Park.

They have also found remnants of a recent campfire in Carlton Reserve.

Carlton Reserve has been closed since 21 September until further notice.

by Anonymousreply 343October 7, 2021 5:11 AM

Why are the FBI/LE convinced Brian's not near the Appalachian Trail or off the coast of FL where Dog found DNA proof?

Still don't understand the focus on the swamp?

by Anonymousreply 344October 7, 2021 5:31 AM

What DNA proof was that?

by Anonymousreply 345October 7, 2021 5:34 AM

There is a video of this knowledgable cattle rancher who knows the area in the link below. It's 5 minutes. He basically says that if BL was in the Carlton Reserve, there is no way he is still alive. Look for buzzards circling his corpse--that is, if he died on dry land (which there isn't much of).

But, I dunno, R344. Do you have a link to the DNA proof Dog found near the FL portion of the AT? All I could find is that Dog found DNA in De Soto Park he sent to the FBI (and we know BL was in De Soto Park from 6 - 8 Aug, so I'm not sure why it's significant).

The LE focus seems to have been on the swamp from the beginning with little diversion to elsewhere, which leads me to think that they don't think he's alive and hasn't been for some time. I don't think he ever left the swamp, either. He's most likely compost by now, thanks to the non-discriminating diet of alligators.

The supposed sightings on or near the AT were all bunk anyways, which is what I thought from the beginning. There's no way that BL would've allowed himself to be so recklessly visible, considering that he obviously realized that he had become headline news overnight. Plus, someone like him doesn't seem to have half the brain or the extreme savvy required to elude such a massive search effort, not to mention the army of web sleuths and amateur detectives who think they're hot on his trail.

by Anonymousreply 348October 7, 2021 6:00 AM

R340 and R341

Gabby's last FaceTime call with her mom was on Aug 24th when Gabby was in Salt Lake City.

"Schmidt said she last spoke to Petito when she received a FaceTime call from her on August 24 as she and Laundrie departed Salt Lake City. Prior to her disappearance, Petito would FaceTime with her mother about three times a week while on the trip, Schmidt told CBS New York."

Gabby's mom believed that the "Stan" text was not sent by Gabby.

Gabby's mother did not know about the Jackson Hole restaurant , Merry Piglet, fight until after she filed a Missing Person's Report in NY for Gabby

Does anyone have links stating that the engineer who talked to "Brian" at the Appalachian Trail turned out to be a conversation with just another slim, bald, bearded man? The incident got a lot of pap attention but limited response from the FBI.

Also thought the vehicle "Brian" was driving was verified to be his uncle's who lives in No Carolina.

Notice Dog's been silent this week. His daughter just claims he's searching thru tips and leads.

How can you feel sorry for a psychopath who causes so much misery for so many, thinks it's a joke and has no conscience?

He could be on a beach in Mexico laughing at Gabby's family and the FBI dragging a vast swamp.

Now that Mr Laundrie has finished his gardening he has time to look for his son.

by Anonymousreply 357October 7, 2021 4:34 PM

Why so much focus on an abandoned campsite? Countless outdoor survivalists must hang out in the swamp. Everything the Laundrie's have told LE appear to have been lies.

by Anonymousreply 358October 7, 2021 4:38 PM

Sounds like Lard Sister and Daddy Laundrie are done enabling murdering, moocher Brian. Oh well, he's still got his Mommy! That Gabby was never good enough for her sweet baby anyway!

by Anonymousreply 359October 7, 2021 4:56 PM

R358 The reservation has been closed to the public since mid-September. There shouldn't be anyone but LE there.

On another note, I don't understand why everyone thinks the FBI is so inept because they've decided to contain their search efforts to the swamp. These people are not stupid by any definition, and they must have no evidence of any real substance that BL is anywhere else. Dead or alive.

by Anonymousreply 360October 7, 2021 4:59 PM

From Brian Entin: "Chris was asked to point out any favorite trails or spots that Brian may have used in the preserve."

I'm surprised Pops Laundrie is out there at all but I wonder if he's been, shall we say, compelled?

by Anonymousreply 361October 7, 2021 4:59 PM

R360, IF the FBI catches Brian or proof of his remains it will improve my opinion re their competence.

by Anonymousreply 362October 7, 2021 5:04 PM

R361, at this point the FBI probably just wants to separate the Laundrie parents with any excuse. Get one engaging and talking without the other one around.

by Anonymousreply 363October 7, 2021 5:23 PM

Why would the FBI be bringing in Brian's father to help their search at this stage in the hunt? I'm sure they don't expect him to wade through the swamps. My guess is they found something and need Dad to identify it. Camping equipment? Clothing? A body?

Chris Laundrie has returned home.

Brian Entin's conversation with former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer:
I believe the FBI has found something at the reserve, something that may or may not be significant but something that can’t be transported. Possibly a camping site and they want his father to come look and perhaps how the fire pit looks or the setup of the camp to see if it something that he recognized or is familiar with Brian Laundrie possibly sets up a camp
[italic]Is this unusual for them to be doing this? With you know, with his Dad?[/italic]
Under the circumstances of this case where you have an attorney representing him meaning the Laundrie parents from the beginning and Brian Laundrie from the beginning it is unusual because this request had to be made thru the attorneys and now is putting the FBI in closer contact with the father so it is a bit unusual but I guarantee they have questions for him regarding what they have found that they believe he can answer.
[italic]Do you think there’s any chance that they’re using this moment to get closer to the Dad? [/italic]
I don’t think that was a ploy pre-se but that can end up being what happens they have not talked to him because he has retained, we have very strict rules on that and we do not break the rule when somebody has asked for an attorney. However, just that familiarity of working together, sometimes relationships can form and it can open doors
[italic]Yesterday you saw there was a lot of action in the reserve, what did you make of what you saw?[/italic]
Most FBI agents do not drive SUVs, the agents that do drive SUVs are in specialty areas like Evidence Recovery Team, what we call an ERT, SWAT members because they have a lot of gear to carry, so it could be because of the terrain out there that they need all terrain four wheel drive larger vehicles that they have that out there but it is also indicative of an ERT team which would make a lot of sense that they found something specific to comb over.

Timeline:
Brian Laundrie flew cross-country to visit his parents' home in Florida during his trip with Gabby Petito, according to the Laundrie family's lawyer, Steven Bertolini. The attorney confirmed to CBS News that Laundrie flew home on August 17 and returned to Utah on August 23, 4 days before Petito was last seen.
According to Bertolini, Laundrie flew to Florida to get some supplies and close a storage unit to save money. He and Petito were thinking about extending their road trip, Bertolini told CBS News Wednesday.
Laundrie flew back to Florida shortly after he and Petito were stopped by police over a domestic dispute. Officers from the Moab Police Department in Utah stopped the couple on August 12 after a bystander reported seeing Petito slap Laundrie, who then "grabbed her face and pushed her back."
Five days later, Laundrie flew to Florida, where [bold]he stayed at his parent's home in Fort Lauderdale for six days before returning to Petito.[/bold]
Petito last video chatted with her mother on August 23 or 24 and was last seen on August 27. On September 1, Laundrie returned home in the couple's 2012 Ford Transit van without Petito. Petito's family reported her missing on September 11, sparking the nationwide hunt that ended when police found her body in Wyoming on September 19.

Two comments about the FBI & Chris Laundrie at the reserve:
If the FBI had found something interesting then many more agents would have been in the CR today, but instead ChL and a single FBI agent in a John Deere cart drove to a spot and looked at something. I suspect the whole action had other reasons. Possibly the FBI just wants to find out what ChL and RL are telling each other once he gets home (house is bugged). Does RL wants to know if traces of Brian were found, or is she rather asking how the FBI behaved ? Just speculation of course, but something doesn't seem to be as it seems.

*****
So does anyone else think this whole Chris Laundrie going to help search the Carlton reserve for an hour or so thing was a publicity stunt for him to appear to be “helpful”, or no? Yesterday their lawyer claimed the parents supposedly tried to help search, but NPPD cops said to come another time. NPPD claims this never happened and directed questions on it to FBI. No on confirms this and everyone on social media seems to think it’s bs. Then suddenly he goes today? CL spent less time searching for his “missing” son than I’ve spent on hold with Xfinity. Then the video of CL speeding away from Fox News after he left the “search”. This whole cause is just so weird.

Today is the 20th day of the hunt for Brian in the Florida wilds. In that period, John Walsh, a brigade of internet sleuths, and Dog the Bounty Hunter have joined the search but have turned up nothing substantial. Meanwhile, local authorities, after finding nothing, have turned the case over to the FBI, who, after scouring the Floridian swamps, to the virtual exclusion of other possible leads from other areas of the country, likewise have found nothing.

In the interim, Gabby Petito's body was found by LE and a colorfully controversial Wyoming coroner determined that she was murdered, but no further details have been released, leading followers of the case to speculate what's going on.

Now the FBI is asking the father of the principal (make that only) person of interest, still not a suspect, to help with the investigation. This is the same father who helped hide Gabby's disappearance, and likely even her murder, for at least 10 days, and his son's flight from justice for at least 3 days.

I swear, if I had never heard of this case and someone were to describe it to me, I'd think it's a Month Python or Mel Brooks comedy script, or else some dark comedy featuring the Keystone Cops.

I sincerely hope some abusive unemployed murderous bald 20-something barefooted nature enthusiast hasn't gotten the better of dozens of various law enforcement agencies. Because that would be epically embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 379October 7, 2021 7:53 PM

At this point Brian's had enough time to move to Bolivia, take on a new identity, start a family and advise the local government on means of repressing opposition through murder.

What was Gabby doing the week Brian was gone? Camping alone? Or maybe she met a guy who hadn't just smacked her in the face. Anyone have baseless speculation to add?

by Anonymousreply 381October 7, 2021 9:59 PM

We don't know much. The conventional wisdom is that she was staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites at the Salt Lake City International Airport, as she was seen there the morning of 24 August (which would have been after BL's arrival back from his 17 - 23 August trip) and the hotel reported she had been multiple days. It's possible that she was working on their YouTube video and preparing stuff for social media for potential posting. She posted a retrospective photo on 20 August.

Perhaps she was living in the van by herself during part of his absence, but it's doubtful considering how (unfortunately) dependent she was on him. Obviously, this would have cost money that she hadn't budgeted into the trip.

CNN updated the article linked at R369:
[bold]Police say no campsite was found at the nature reserve during search for Brian Laundrie[/bold]
North Port Police say investigators did not find a campsite in the sprawling nature reserve that has been the focus of the search for Brian Laundrie, the missing fiancé of Gabby Petito.
Police spokesperson Josh Taylor's confirmation that there was no campsite comes after a source close to the Laundrie family told CNN's Chris Cuomo that they had been informed by investigators that police had made a discovery in Florida's Carlton Reserve.
The source on Thursday insisted that the Laundrie family had been told a campsite had been found.
"Is it possible that they thought that there might be a campsite out there or something they may have seen from the air but when they got on the ground that's not what it turned out to be? Sure, I think that's a possibility," Taylor said. "Bottom line, is that investigators are telling me that no campsite was found out there."

by Anonymousreply 389October 7, 2021 10:46 PM

I don't think he ever went there. The Laundries want everyone to think that, so they parked his car there. He is long gone out of the country, the FBI likely told the father they found a fresh campsite to gauge his reaction, and the father went there pretending like his son could be there.

by Anonymousreply 404October 8, 2021 3:03 AM

I don't know how outlandish it would be for Dog's team to be playing down (at R328) what might have been a legitimate lead back up at the AT in the TN/NC area in order to assist the investigation and fool BL into thinking they're not on his tail. Or it just may have been a mistaken ID that was backed up my multiple other mistaken IDs in the TN/NC border area (as relayed by Skyline News R267).

As this search drags on and more information trickles in, while I think the parents are complicit in covering for him, I am having doubts about just how elaborate their scheming was. As I referenced earlier in R328, the shit hit the fan on 11 Sep. I'm not sure BL's parents could have conceptualised just how much this case took on a life of its own. Whatever plans they had must have been hurried as 1) He was still sticking around his parents' home ten days after his return when this story went national, and 2) He was gone--according to the latest intel--within the next 48 hours hours.

Occam's Razor--to me, based on all this--would be that the parked Mustang wasn't a devious tactic, and that BL is somewhere in the reserve, probably dead, as it has been 24 days. That being said, I still wouldn't rule out BL being in the AT, but that would be the parents were way more involved and strategic than perhaps they should be given credit for, as R402 could also be right.

R399, BL was with GP on 27 August. There are verified eyewitness accounts at the Merry Piglet by the Tik Tokker from Louisiana and the restaurant management. Their van was cited at around 6:15 PM that evening by the Bethune family parked along a gravel road next to the creek bed where GP's body was found. GP's mother received a text that very day that was uncharacteristic of GP and highly indicative that someone other than her sent it. Two different people attested to picking up as a hitchhiker two days later not far from that area. He made no mention that his fiancee was dead.

by Anonymousreply 408October 8, 2021 3:15 AM

Oh goody, R408. Maybe it'll be Brian & His Voices vs. The Shitbag Anti-Vaxxers, with no survivors! 🎉

by Anonymousreply 409October 8, 2021 3:20 AM

What's partly fascinating is the behaviour of the parents, like R406 just mentioned. Every situation has a context, but, my God, I couldn't help but be perplexed by the shot of the father smiling (laughing?) with the agent (who may or may not have deliberately been assigned to escort him due to how much he resembled BL).

The ability of the parents to remain so cool, calm, and collected since this story broken over three weeks ago is just mind-boggling. Their demeanour is what has made it easier to believe that they are capable of such elaborate scheming that they would invite the daughter and their grandkids to a final get-together with BL without telling her anything, before creating the Mustang distraction that got him up to the AT, closer to the uncle.

Then again, maybe their approach was more hands-off. Perhaps they harboured him whilst he figured out what to do. Once he decided that he was going to go off to the Reserve, they were like, "Good luck son!" Maybe they're emotionally detached. But, then, they were invested enough to not implore him to turn himself in. Their pathology is interesting.

R407, I am only aware of Dennis Davis and five other IDs in that area in article referenced at R267. Do you have a link to the others?

by Anonymousreply 410October 8, 2021 3:20 AM

And if Brian is trying to hide in the woods off the Appalachian trail, it's likely enough that he'll get lost in the woods and never be seen again. You don't go off the path on large swaths of the Appalachian trail, if you do, you're likely to die.

RE: Appalachian Trail/TN-NC-border-area Sightings.

In all of these instances, thus far, the sightings have been associated with a vehicle (Hyundai Sonata, the pickup truck Davis saw him in, and now a van that this Smith woman mentions), along with another person. I don't believe one of these AT sightings actually put him on the AT free of any vehicle, which I think is interesting. Having him in a vehicle makes him more vulnerable to being found out (requiring him to buy fuel) than someone who is actually hiking the trail and living off the land.

This is the first video that I watched by the Smoky Mtn tarot reader. He has an usual way of throwing the cards, which he calls the "Ghost Card, the card the spirits pick with a distinct message.

I see he has a new video posted about Brian's dad joining the search.

I haven't been to Gatlinburg but have lots of family in TN and have visited often.

Sevierville had a devastating fire few years back, so I don't know whether there are many hiding places there. Bless her heart, Dolly Parton, gave the victims of the fire Basic Income of $1000/month as long as they needed it. Dolly is an angel.

Ghost Card redaing about Brians dad joining the search.

I haven't watched it.

I've watched a handful of Spirit Box sessions with Gabby and there is some conflicting stuff. Sometimes she says that Brian is dead. One time she said he was alive in St. Croix. Another time she said he was in Canada.

Isn't it considerably easier to live off the land in a Florida swamp, than along the Appalachian trail? There's a lot more fish and large birds in Florida swamps than in the forests of the AT.

AT hikers don't live off the land as they go, they bring food and they buy more when they run out.
Police in North Port, Florida, were surveilling Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito's fiancé, as best as they could legally before he vanished, police spokesperson Josh Taylor told CNN's Randi Kaye on Thursday.

[…]
CNN also learned that authorities never spoke with Laundrie before he went missing, even though they had eyes on him. When police went to the North Port home September 11, he was not seen and there was no opportunity to speak with him, Taylor told CNN.

[…]
Authorities do not have the phone Laundrie had with him on the couple's trip, nor do they have Petito's phone. Neither phone was in Petito's van, which Laundrie drove back to Florida, Taylor told CNN.

[…]
North Port police confirmed that a notice was placed on an abandoned Ford Mustang belonging to the Laundrie family outside the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park on September 14. The park acts as an entrance to Carlton Reserve.
Bertolino, the family attorney, told CNN that upon further communication with the FBI, "we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday September 13." His parents had previously told authorities he had left on September 14.
Chris Laundrie went to look for his son on the night of September 13 when he didn't return from the park, Bertolino told CNN on Wednesday. The next day, Brian's parents returned to the area to look for Brian and saw the citation on the car, Bertolino said. The parents returned again the next day, September 15, to retrieve the vehicle.
"The Laundries were basing the date Brian left on their recollection of certain events. Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday September 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday September 13," Bertolino said.
CNN asked Bertolino whether Brian's parents believe he's in the reserve or another area. "No, they don't believe he's in another area. They believe he is in the preserve," he said.

More internet speculation:
Why now would CL assist the police in the search. We’ll that got me thinking…
I’m an attorney (and former criminal defense attorney) and I think this is why. Look at the (1) TIMELINE + (2) THE ATTORNEY’s RECENT STATEMENTS: This week BL’s parents admitted he left on 13th & not the 14th after new evidence came to light that disproved their version of events (we can infer this from the attorney’s statement about a recent convo with the FBI). This evidence showed that the mustang wasn’t in the driveway on the 13th AND that CL’s truck wasn’t in the driveway on the evening of the 13th for several hours (see Brian Etin’s videos). When CL is questioned by the FBI, he THEN claims that he mixed up the dates—that BL left the 13th not the 14th AND that he left the house on the evening of the 13th FOR SEVERAL HOURS TO SEARCH for Brian in the preserve (attorney then issues a statement to support CL’s new version of events). The REASON the FBI asked CL to come out and “assist” in the search yesterday was to have CL show them WHERE he allegedly searched for BL for several hours on the evening of the 13th. That’s why they were searching on foot for three hours (as opposed to using a tractor which would be faster). The FBI wants to prove that CL is lying about searching the preserve for BL on the evening of the 13th (either because there were trail cams on the route he allegedly took that show he wasn’t there, or because the area would have been underwater and impossible to pass at the time he claims he went there, etc. that’s why the search lasted approximately 3 1/2 hours-because that’s approximately how long CL claimed he searched for BL on the evening of the 13th. Attorney’s statement about “pointing out Brian’s favorite trails and hangouts” is only half of the truth—CL likely told the FBI he searched for BL on the evening of the 13th in areas/on trails that were BL’s favorite. Just my two cents.
When police went to the North Port home September 11, he was not seen and there was no opportunity to speak with him, Taylor told CNN.

Ah, clarity. I saw an article say that the police HAD seen him and he just wouldn't talk, and I even linked to it, but when I went back to the article that whole passage had been removed. I wondered if it was because it had been a mistake, and I guess it was.

No surprise those parents said he left on the 14th when it was the 13th. It could have been even earlier, probably when the cops showed up on the 11th they call got spooked and he ran off.

by Anonymousreply 441October 8, 2021 4:40 PM
His parents had previously told authorities he had left on September 14.
Chris Laundrie went to look for his son on the night of September 13 when he didn't return from the park, Bertolino told CNN on Wednesday.

Yeah, they didn't accidentally get those dates confused when they talked to the cops, not if the dad went out to search for him the night of the 13th.

That theory posted at r440 makes sense to me, and I'd bet they won't find the dad on any trail cams that night.

But if they've been searching the reserve this whole time based entirely on what Brian's parents said, they are idiots.

by Anonymousreply 442October 8, 2021 4:45 PM
Q: Are the parents in legal jeopardy?
It’s hard to say because we don’t know all the facts. To be arrested for being an accessory after the fact you would have to have knowledge that Brian committed a crime and then you would have to take actions to prevent his arrest or his punishment and we just don’t know what the parents know. Now we can make an inference that they know because Brian came back without Gabby, they didn’t tell anyone, they refused to communicate with Gabby’s parents and so it looks bad for them in the court of public opinion but prosecutors are not going to file charges against them unless they have definitive proof, proof that that they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were involved in some way in a crime.
I don’t think they were promised immunity, I think their lawyer may have told them to talk to the FBI. The FBI probably distrusts them based on their silence so this could help them avoid a charge of being an accessory after the fact. Interestingly, when they communicated with the FBI about Brian’s whereabouts, according to reports they refused to communicate with the FBI about anything to do with Gabby so obviously that tells you something, but it’s hard to know at this stage what their level of cooperation is with the FBI because the FBI handles these things in secret. All we know is what we saw on camera today, we saw the father go out there, it looks like they are worried about their son but there are also other things like they didn’t report their son missing for 5 days. He went missing on Monday without his phone, without his wallet, they didn’t report him gone until Friday so that’s suspicious in itself.
It makes me believe Cassie a little bit that she went out and talked to a group of protesters without a lawyer, she’s been cooperating from the beginning. She’s referred to Gabby as Gabby. Remember when Gabby went missing the parents issued a statement calling Gabby Miss Petito. That to me was a tell that they knew more. As far as why the parent’s lawyer are telling the parents not to communicate with Cassie I think it’s because the lawyer knows that there is no privilege to prevent the communication between the parents and their daughter from becoming public. Communication between spouses are protected under the law, there’s a spousal privilege in the law so what they say to each other is protected from disclosure but it’s not the same thing for the stuff they tell Cassie. Cassie can tell all what she is told by her parents and that’s why the lawyer says don’t talk to your daughter.
Prosecutors have a charge out there that will get him behind bars if and when he is caught and so there’s not a huge rush to charge him with murder because once you charge him with that serious crime then there are certain procedural rules in place. For example, you’ve got 180 days before you have to put him on trial for that case, that’s the speedy trial rule, it’s based on the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution. Also, there are rules that once someone is arrested prosecutors have to file charges within 30 days or that person goes free before trial without conditions. Prosecutors want to slow these things down whereas police want to rush it.
I think they got a tip, they got some evidence that Brian was out there in that swamp at some point and they are looking at it. They may have found a campsite or something. Or else I can’t imagine they would have brought the father out there. I don’t think they’re bringing the father out there to try to get him to talk against his attorney’s will because that’s not what the FBI does, that’s against their guidelines and they don’t want to jeopardize this case by breaking the rules, giving any chance to suppress evidence so I think this was just about a tip and it looks like he was there at some point although I’m not sure he’s there right now. I think the person up on the Appalachian Trail may have something there, it looks like the FBI spoke to that witness for about 45 minutes today.

If it closes does that mean he can't access the reserve at all? Honest question. We have parks around here that close but they don't have gates or anything so you can still go there, until the cops chase you off, at least.

by Anonymousreply 446October 8, 2021 7:06 PM

R446, Thanks for clarifying my post. Yes it doesn't make sense that CL went alone to search for Brian at night in a swamp after the park was closed back in mid-Sept.

Want a better rabbit hole discussed on Twitter by "citizen sleuths?"

Father of one of the murdered lesbians found a key card near the bodies. It's linked to a climbing club and to Brian. Some LE think Brian is a serial killer. We know he can use a gun.

Tea Crime Club Retweeted robyn @robyn87651971 Replying to @xxjanedoexx2209 and @TeaCrimeClub Wonder why the family found the keys and not the police. Not much confidence in the police

by Anonymousreply 465October 9, 2021 10:58 AM

The key card wasn't linked to Brian, it was potentially a key card to a rock climbing club and some people think, based on a photo on his IG, that he used to work at a rock climbing club, but that's it.

Kylen's dad turned over the key card to the police apparently.

by Anonymousreply 466October 9, 2021 11:33 AM

Brian's dad kept a Glock 9 in the glovebox of Brian's Mustang. Now, of course, Brian's mom has filed a police report that the gun was stolen from the Mustang when it was parked in the swamp.

So yes, Brian is carrying his dad's Glock no matter what a persistent poster keeps saying that Brian doesn't have a gun.

I tried to find a Youtube link that I just ran across where Vinnie Politan (HLN) had a panel of male talking heads and they were going to discuss the Moab murders. Vinnie said some new info that was shocking to me. He said that both women were shot multiple times in the back, front, and sides. I have only heard that both women were shot once in the head.

by Anonymousreply 467October 9, 2021 11:36 AM

R466, Thank you for that updated info. Don't you think it's questionable that Moab LE didn't find the key card? Good that Kylen's dad is on top of things.

Don't know whether or not Brian's a serial killer, or there's another homophobic psycho in the area. However linking the stories keeps the tragic double murder from being buried. I don't fully trust Moab LE to do due diligence.

by Anonymousreply 468October 9, 2021 11:45 AM

When did Brian's parents file a missing person's report for Brian with police?

by Anonymousreply 469October 9, 2021 12:27 PM

Of course people believe the flowerbed theory. We live in a country where a group of people took Operation Jade Helm seriously and believe Trump had the election stolen from him. Those morons would believe any conspiracy theory.

by Anonymousreply 470October 9, 2021 1:22 PM

My feeling is that it would be strange and odd if the murders of the two women and Petito’s murder WEREN’T connected. As others have posted—Occam’s razor. What are the odds that two homicidal maniacs were in a remote area at the same time?

Question btw—can anyone confirm that the fight between GP and BL happened in the parking lot of the store where the two women were working? I believe I read that neither were in the store that day though. The two women disappeared later that night and were killed and their bodies were found days later?

by Anonymousreply 471October 9, 2021 1:50 PM
Don't you think it's questionable that Moab LE didn't find the key card? Good that Kylen's dad is on top of things.

I don't have any idea when Kylen's dad found them or where they were, so I can't even begin to speculate as to whether they're part of the case.

The best I can tell, he said he took them to the police and they said they weren't related and the keys were a "dead end."

by Anonymousreply 472October 9, 2021 1:53 PM

I go back and forth on that, r471. I believe I read that someone else in the camping area said he also saw a "creepy old guy" but now I can't find that, so maybe I'm not remembering right. We do know the couple saw a "creepy guy" hanging around, and my gut instinct is that Brian wouldn't have had any way to get there without the van. However, if he and Gabby got back together that night and didn't stay separated, he may have had access to the van. We just don't know.

We do know that they were fighting in the parking lot of the Moonflower, it's in the police bodycams. That was the afternoon of August 12th. Kylen was employed there and had worked that morning but wasn't there when the fight happened, apparently.

Kylen and Crystal were last seen on August 13th, a day after the fight, and believed to have been killed on the 14th. They were found on the 18th.

Brian left to go back to Florida on the 17th.

by Anonymousreply 473October 9, 2021 2:06 PM

Maybe Brian killed Gabby because she knew about his involvement in the killing of the married couple.

by Anonymousreply 474October 9, 2021 2:53 PM

"Kylen was employed there and had worked that morning but wasn't there when the fight happened, apparently."

Kylen worked at the Moonflower from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM that day, and both Brian and Abby told the police they had been hanging out in or around the coop "all day." So there was plenty of time for interaction.

And yes, there are a lot of crazy, violent heterosexual men in this world, but this still seems way too coincidental.

by Anonymousreply 475October 9, 2021 3:13 PM

Nobody has answered my question and I couldn't find an answer online. So they never filed a missing person report on Brian so they don't consider him missing? He just went for an extended hike and they know he's fine? But they put in a report for a missing gun?

by Anonymousreply 476October 9, 2021 4:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 477October 9, 2021 4:17 PM

Most news outlets these days print bs because even that makes money and sometimes it’s because it suits theI agenda. That is why the phrase ‘fake news’ came about. The sad thing is so many believe the bunk.

by Anonymousreply 478October 9, 2021 4:51 PM

Fake News was actually basically “hoax” articles. Nonsense written by people who knew they were writing lies. It was done either as a joke or to serve a political interest. It happened in the lead-up to the 2016 election. Trump took the term and ran with it, completely bastardizing it.

I’m not sure what examples you had in mind, R478. Am I describing what you were thinking of? The stories that fit the pre-Trump definition of ‘fake news’ weren’t mainstream and still aren’t.

by Anonymousreply 480October 9, 2021 5:15 PM

That time sounds right r475, it was reported that she got off work about an hour and a half prior to the altercation, which was 4:30PM. It would be kind of weird if Gabby and Brian hung around a small co-op for hours.

Also I realize now that Kylen and Crystal were seen at a bar on the 13th after Gabby and Brian would have presumably gotten back together, having spent only the night of the 12th apart, so I wonder how he could have managed to be creeping around their campsite when he and Gabby were back together in the van by then.

It is one hell of a coincidence, though. You'd also expect that, if there were a creeper roaming around attacking women at campsites, he would have struck again by now.
A day before Turner and Schulte went missing, an incident related to another unsolved case happened just outside the Moonflower, where Schulte had been working until 3 p.m. on Aug. 12. Then evidently you believe the media's bs stories? Like when it was reported Hillary was fired on by snipers in Bosnia, and that turned out to be false. Or when they reported that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary even though Sen. Clinton was born in 1947, and Sir Edmund Hillary and his partner Tenzing Norgay did not ascend Mount Everest until 1953. How about when Brian Williams, the nation’s top-rated news anchor, has admitted fabricating a tale of being forced down by enemy fire in a helicopter over Iraq a dozen years ago, only it was found out that never happened and he only admitted to it after it was pointed out. Or how about when CNN's chief medical correspondent, Gupta, who was a neurosurgeon, boasted that he went to Nepal after its devastating April earthquake and performed a lifesaving brain operation on a girl who’d suffered injuries to her skull, But it was discovered the girl never had brain surgery — or surgery of any kind — and was treated only for a broken wrist and some minor head wounds. Or how about this one? CNN originally denounced Trump’s claim in March of 2017 that former President Barack Obama was wiretapping phones in Trump Tower as a “flat-out lie.” Then, in September of 2017, CNN reported that the FBI had a wiretap on former campaign chairman Paul Manafort — who has a residence in Trump Tower. While it is unclear if the FBI tapped Manafort’s phones in Trump Tower or picked up his conversations with the president, it’s plausible enough that CNN should not be dismissing Trump’s claims out of hand but it suited their agenda to write it. Or how about the salacious and unverified Steele dossier was paid for by the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign, but that hasn’t stopped CNN from pinning the document on the GOP. Former Obama official and current CNN reporter Jim Sciutto was just one network talking-head who claimed the dossier was “initially paid for by Republicans.” Or CNN claimed that only Democratic members of Congress gathered to pray before the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game — the first game after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot and nearly killed. But there were pictures of the prayer circle that clearly showed both Democrats and Republicans praying together, and CNN eventually deleted their tweet claiming otherwise. They knew but did not want to be caught red handed. The oldest and biggest: Trump colluded with Russia to win in 2016 and might be a Russian agent. That scam involved crooked FBI agents and led to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who took two years to conclude there was no evidence to back the charge. How about the “kids in cages” firestorm, complete with gripping photographs of migrant children in metal containers? Democrats such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rushed to the border with photogenic outrage. They vanished when it was revealed the Obama-Biden administration built the cages and the heart-wrenching photos were from 2014. Or how about the “Muslim ban” that wasn’t? Or the 2017 tax cuts were only for the “rich” despite studies showing 80 percent of the population benefitted? So many others, the list goes on and on.

What if the fight between Gabby and Brian on August 12 was *because of* Turner and Schulte? Maybe Brian had gotten into it earlier with one or both women, then he took the van (maybe even with Gabby in it) to stake out Schulte's place of employment, maybe to settle a score. Then he confronted her after her shift.

OR, maybe Gabby and Brian were arguing about something else and Schulte happened to be the witness who saw them arguing that day. She might've come to Gabby's defense and confronted Brian.

Either way, Brian, might've developed a deadly grudge against Schulte because of such an encounter. Then Brian later could have gone to hunt down, sexually assault, and kill the ladies. He might've confessed it to Gabby, or else she otherwise knew what he'd done. She freaked out, they fought, then Brian killed Gabby.

As others have noticed, it's too coincidental how these two crimes overlap. The two couples likely were aware of each other in that small co-op.

Add to that the fact that Brian's parents have now reported a "stolen" Glock. What if Brian had the Glock with him the entire time on his van trip with Gabby? He could've used it to kill (premeditated) the lesbian couple. He might've used a different method — strangulation, for example — to kill Gabby (likely a crime of passion), which may be a reason why law enforcement might think the two cases aren't related. Brian then could've taken the gun back to Florida and asked his parents to dispose of it.

In any case, the overlap in dates and events are too powerful to ignore.

Is the public losing interest in the story yet?

by Anonymousreply 504October 9, 2021 11:26 PM

I can't believe that allegedly-bipolar outdoorsy Brian would be willing to spend weeks in a small, confined, underground space, even if he were afraid for his life and freedom. It'd be like jail, only with wifi and his mother's cooking, for what that's worth.

Betcha that if the bunker exists and the Laundries have access to it, and his parents offered it to him, he refused and decided he'd rather make a run for it in some fashion. Get a boat and take off for near or far, get a car and hit the road to a place he'd feel safe, head into a Florida swamp and get eaten by an alligator, whatever.

by Anonymousreply 505October 9, 2021 11:29 PM

Brian being in a small space he's unable to leave, with no company, can't go outdoors or get fresh air, and shitty food, with only his voices and periodic visits from his enabling Mommy?

I'm liking the idea of this bunker more and more! Sounds similar to jail, except he can't get any DL penpals yet.

It's been over 2 hours since a body of a man was reported in the area of ATL No Carolina near where Dennis the engineer reported his encounter with Brian.

May not be BL as there are a lot of bodies found in the mountains. Also we don't know if the victim died by suicide or from an accident.

Laundrie's would have to be notified 1st before a public announcement. Still Twitter's suspect as there haven't been any denials it's BL.
He did not comment on Petito’s condition at the time of discovery. While Blue did say her body was outside, he could not say if her remains were buried or exposed, explaining that the FBI would have to give the answer.

Interesting semi-related news, Teton County Corner Brent Blue has a history of domestic violence: he shot at his wife and missed.

In 2014 his Wyoming Concealed Firearm permit was denied “based upon previous contacts with law enforcement.”
The “previous contacts mentioned” stem from Blue’s 1999 arrest for a domestic violence situation during which Blue admitted to shooting a .32-caliber handgun at his then-wife’s car in an attempt to keep her from driving away.
The sheriff’s office report of the incident states that the couple was in the process of separating and Blue wanted to stop his wife from entering their home because he believed she was removing his possessions from the residence.
An original charge of aggravated assault and battery was dismissed, but two charges — reckless endangerment and breach of peace — were not, court records show.

The worst that can happen to Brian's parents are what they deserve. They should be hounded until they give all the information they have concerning their son. Because they lawyered up immediately they are untouchable by law enforcement agencies. The only way they will be forthcoming is by citizens making their lives a living hell within the bounds of the law. Like their son they are psychopaths without a conscience. The only way they will respond is by immediate threat.

From those interviews with the police officers she seems like a real handful. No wonder he was always slapping her. He was trying to knock some sense into her. Not that it's ever really possible with a woman.
[bold]When KSL’s Chopper 5 flew over the crime scene that day, a photographer spotted the remains above ground, but covered, possibly by a blanket.
Hiking shoes were on the ground next to the body.[/bold]
While KSL has elected not to make that particular part of the video public, we did show it to someone who had worked numerous homicides.
“Oh, dozens,” said Kurt Morgan, a longtime Salt Lake County prosecutor. “Virtually ever murder that I prosecuted, I went to the crime scene.”
Morgan came away with distinct impressions from this scene.
[bold]“This was quick. This was not sitting here for five or six hours, trying to figure out how to conceal a crime,” he said.
He also didn’t notice any obvious signs of a struggle on the ground.[/bold]
“One of the things I’ve been seeing in this story is a history of these individuals getting into fights and she attacked him,” said Morgan. “I don’t see that here. All I see is one individual who suffered the damage and no evidence of injury created by her.”
To clarify some confusion:
KSL was streaming live footage via heli over the search area, following the search teams, when GP was found. The original live footage briefly caught GP's body on cam but cut away when they realized that it was her. KSL now only has a post of the edited footage, with voiceover explaining that the heli crew saw GP's body and that the video was edited to not show what they saw.
Supposedly (using this word because I do not have a source other than murmurings on social media and out of respect for GP and her family, I purposefully didn't seek it out), someone out there on the internet managed to screenshot GP just before the live vid cut away. I do remember talk of it here on the sub weeks ago, that someone had linked said screenshot and that (for obvious reasons) it had been removed. Again, I cannot personally verify such a screenshot exists because I did not seek it out, out of respect for GP and her loved ones.

Time for a new thread, OP.

The thread linked below is hasn't gone off the rails the way all of the others have but we should probably start a new one with up to date information at the OP.
He also didn’t notice any obvious signs of a struggle on the ground.

But her shoes and phone were found just behind the van. Why would he think they struggled on the ground near where the body was found?

That thought never occurred to me - I figured he strangled her either just outside the van, where the phone fell, or inside the van, and as he carried her out, the shoes/phone fell out or he threw them down, or maybe while she was being strangled, the shoes came off and she dropped the phone.

Anyway, he could easily carry her to wherever it was he laid her down on the ground - and there wouldn't be any sign of struggle because she'd be dead when he did that.

by Anonymousreply 584October 13, 2021 11:08 PM

You know, that creepy video where someone closes the back door of the van - and you can see her shoes on the ground (and apparently the phone was nearby)?

He probably had her inside the van - or her body. Otherwise, either she would have picked up her phone when it fell -- or he would have already put her body in that field nearby or whatever and when he came back, he would have picked up her phone for sure and probably her shoes. Leaving the phone behind would make it too easy for someone to figure out she was dead even sooner than they did.

Not the OP of this thread but went ahead and created a part 3

Thanks, R586. Unfortunately, the new thread is already a shit show so I'll pass. I think three of us were keeping this thread up to date so someone else can take the lead.

Three comments responding to R581:
I think they were possibly camping there. Once she was dead, he ran off (#1), leaving everything behind. Hoping that someone would chance upon it, and when he finally returned, he'd have an 'Oh god, I was hiking" moment.
That didn't happen. No one saw her.
So this time he decides to run off home (#2) thinking that no one even saw him there. But he knew if he took the van, he'd have to take the tent, campsite, whatever. All of it. It makes no sense for that to be there without the van. Maybe left her boots there to make it look like she hiked there, grabbed her credit cards, and took off. He probably thought the same thing would happen as before. Someone would find her, and he could go "I was never there. I dropped her off 30 miles away at such and such and drove home. She wanted to stay to meet her friend. Someone must have stolen her credit cards and dumped her there"
But then the body cam footage showed up. Which was just about the same day he fled (Sept 13th) Which he probably didn't even think was recording him. Everyone knew they were fighting. Now he'd be a major suspect. He probably got paranoid that cameras were everywhere. Were they at the restaurant? The gas station on the way home? The highway? The campsite?
So he ran off again (#3).
Then the footage of the van showed up online a few days later. And the FBI discovered he used her credit cards. His alibi is shot to shit.

***
Is there a timeline of consideration that BL killed her AFTER his little hitchhiking trip? As in they went to Spread Creek, parked the van. He storms off at one point (triggering her fear of abandonment, punishing her, getting her under control) hitchhiked around and then either cools off or wants to go fight some more. (Like the Merry Piglets incident, he had to keep coming back, unable to control his temper and getting off on the agro adrenaline) She stays at Spread Creek, waiting for his return. He returns and they set up a tent like they usually did, or at least go scouting for a campsite, but he attacks her out there instead and then immediately flees in the van.
The “hitchhiking for an alibi” doesn’t quite sit right. If an alibi was your planned intent, you’d go to a popular bar/spot in town and be gregarious and noticed by lot people and get on camera. As people point out, BL doesn’t seem terribly bright, but you don’t have to be a criminal mastermind to figure that out. Versus “I’ll hitchhike in the hopes that a couple of randoms will later remember me.” I mean, he likes to read edgy murder books, so he wasn’t totally in the dark there. Plus he seems pretty reactive, not proactive (see running home to Mommy after killing her, versus just going on the lam from the scene of the crime.)

***
I wonder if he killed her in the van, and then used the equipment bag from the top of the van to dump her body out there. That would explain no signs of struggle where her body was found, and partially covered by what looks like a black sleeping bag.
He just needed darkness and would have had the streams to provide noise. Where this the case, after a couple of weeks, animals would have come snooping into the contents of the bag following the scent and partially covered could be the effect.

Has Dog the Bounty Gunter found him yet?

Lol.

Maybe he should stick to searching for paper towels.

Hunter

R589, I can’t believe anyone would take a reality star seriously and think they were going to be effective. Oh wait…

by Anonymousreply 591October 14, 2021 12:58 PM

He should search for some sun screen - but it's probably too late.

Multiple people created a new Part 3 when we already had a Part 3 PLUS a new thread started at the time of the coroner's press conference. They were all linked here in this thread already.

The few people who are on this thread don't even read it, do they? What a joke.

Laundrie’s sizemeat?

Found his remains. He is dead.
