Without linking to the Maul... Andrew has hired an LA firm in the Roberts matter:
Prince Andrew's lawyer has argued that the sexual assault case against him should be dismissed because it is 'baseless,' a court heard on Monday.
The Duke of York's attorney Andrew Brettler told the federal court in New York that the lawsuit filed last month was a 'non-viable and potentially unlawful' case.
Brettler, of powerhouse Hollywood law firm Lavely & Singer, said that Andrew had not actually been served papers filed by his accuser Virginia Roberts.
Hiring Brettler brings the formidable resources of Lavely & Singer - founded by powerhouse celebrity attorney Marty Singer - onto Prince Andrew's legal team.
Singer has been dubbed the 'Hollywood lawyer who can make any problem go away.'
Among those who have turned to Singer during times of crisis have been Charlie Sheen and Bill Cosby.
Among the others he has represented include Michael Jackson, Tom Hanks, Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore, Eddie Murphy to name just a few.

[quote] It is a tradition begun by Queen Mary upon the death of her brother Francis in 1910. After Francis left royal jewels to his mistress, Queen Mary petitioned for his will to be sealed from public record to avoid public scandal. Since Francis’ death, only one member of the royal family has had their will left as public- Princess Diana upon her untimely death in 1997.

Apparently Tina Brown is going to make she sure's not beaming next year:
‘Searing’ revelations on the not-so-merry lives of Windsor to be published in Jubilee year
Tina Brown‘s The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor, will hit shelves next April, just before Prince Harry’s own ‘intimate’ memoir
The Queen is facing the prospect of further damaging revelations during her Jubilee year with the announcement of a new royal biography by Tina Brown, the former Vanity Fair editor, based on “years of research and intimate access”.
Ms Brown, author of The Diana Chronicles, a New York Times best seller, will publish The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor – The Truth and the Turmoil, next April.
The book will chart the 25 years since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, from the Queen’s “loosening grip” on the institution to the dramatic defection of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
It also promises to explore the tension between Princes William and Harry, the ascendance of the “resolute” Duchess of Cambridge, and the abuse allegations surrounding the Duke of York and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
---
Nothing substantive in the rest of it, just the creation of market demand by broad hold-on-to-your-hate/tiara inferences.
But it's going to be a pretty crap year between this and presumably Harry's hatchet job. Add in the book about Megantoinette and a possible bullying report... another hard year with pulling focus.

The Queen is, sadly, growing frailer and has lost weight but she's still in much better shape than the few people who make it to 95. I do think part of the reason her face looked so much more wrinkly today was partly to do with the sunlight and her not wearing a hat. Her face looked way more lined than when she appeared at Scotland's Parliament just two or three days ago. I really hope she makes it to her jubliee with no issues.

R146 Although there were cameras , I think that it was not an official engagement, but a private visit. A Canadian Regiment is taking over the ceremonial guard at the Palaces and the Queen, being Canada's head of state, wanted to meet them. The Queen doesn't generally wear a hat to private events (in fact she was very casually dressed yesterday ... for the Queen).
by Anonymous | reply 151 | October 7, 2021 4:37 PM |
R147 She is actually very spry for a 95 year old. She still has her marbles, she walks slowly but unaided and able to remain on her feet without needing to sit down. Lets face it, if you make it to 95 without being a senile, shitting yourself mess, you're in exceptionally good shape. That being said, she has noticeably aged in the past few months. It almost looks like someone let some air out of her face.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | October 7, 2021 4:41 PM |

Who Her Majesty receives as guests is determined by the government and she is required by law to play along. It's one of the most difficult aspects of her job. R170 The Queen is far too practical and not vain enough (this is a woman who is never happier than in tweed and wellingtons). The Queen's amazing skin is genetic. The Queen Mum also had fantastic skin as did Margaret in her youth (Margaret aged more like her father though).
Michael Fagan has changed his story several times over the years and isn't very reliable. He originally said the Queen talked to him, but then in later years he changed that to she screamed and ran out the room.
So what we do know based on the official government review of the incident. Fagan got into the Queen's room, the Queen woke up to him sitting on the foot of her bed, with his hand bleeding. She pressed the panic button by her bed, the police on site did not respond. She then attempted to phone the police, but no one answered (it was later discovered that officers had gone off duty before the morning shift had arrived). Philip was not at the Palace. The Queen's footmen had taken the corgis out. What happened beyond this is a point of conjecture. But given the Queen had time to phone the police from her bed, suggests she didn't run out of the room. Fagan also was drunk out of his mind and fairly incoherent.

R179 & R180 When the Thatcher government conducted its investigation into the Fagan incident, it was discovered that there has been numerous break-ins at the palace over the years, and that security guards admitted to seeing people successfully climb the fences and get into the gardens and rarely were they stopped. In fact, some police confirmed they had seen Fagan climb the fence before and he may have even been caught stealing wine several night before he found his way to the Queen's apartments. The royal family aren't keen on heavy security (minus Harry and Meghan it would seem) as they prefer to be seen and not sheltered (as Philip put it, "like bloody politicians") but Fagan shone a light on just how lacked royal security had become. Fagan changed his story several times over the years and is not reliable. The consensus seems to be the Queen did engage in some level of conversation with him but it's not known has much, probably not a lot. The Queen was angry but stoic in her usually way and shortly after the incident, she rang her private secretary and allegedly dryly said "I've had a man in my bedroom and it wasn't the Duke of Edinburgh."

Buckingham Palace has told reporters that the Queen used the walking stick for comfort that it's not linked to a medical condition. It's been rumoured for a number of years that the Queen has arthritis in her knees and that she should have had a knee replacement but has stubbornly refused. Honestly, while the Queen is not a vain person by nature, I can't see her using a walking aide unless she absolutely needs it. I'm really hoping that this isn't a sort of rapid decline beginning, but at 95 (closer to 96 actually) it's surprising she hasn't needed an aide before.

I actually think the Queen stopped drinking booze a while ago. I had noticed that a few years ago at banquets she stopped having her usual Gin & Dubonnet and just had ice water instead. R240 As 241 stated, it's often to do with medication or a chronic condition that is aggravated by alcohol (heart problems, diabetes, liver issues, kidney reduction/failure). Also patients with more advanced arthritis are usually advised to limit alcohol consumption. My grandmother was advised to stop drinking in her early 80s (my granny was a glass of wine a day type) because she had bad arthritis in her knees and alcohol could flare up inflammation.

R250 - and where, pray tell, did you get your information about the Queen having hemophilia?
by Anonymous | reply 251 | October 16, 2021 3:21 PM |
R251, nowhere, obviously. Queen Victoria, famously, carried the gene for hemophilia, but most of her daughters did not inherit it. The Queen is descended from a daughter who did not carry the gene. In any event, it's almost impossible for women to be hemophiliacs.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | October 16, 2021 3:47 PM |
You don't hear of hemophilia in the Royal houses of Europe anymore. I guess all the male carriers died without issue.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | October 16, 2021 3:49 PM |
The Queen does not have hemophilia, and even if she carried the gene, women are so rarely affected by it. If the Queen had the gene for hemophilia, it's likely one of her sons would have developed it. Hemophilia is not present in the mainline of the royal family. Edward VII never had it and the present Queen comes for more "robust" less inbred stock as her mother and father were not closely related.
Yes Queen Victoria had the gene but only her youngest son, Prince Leopold, was diagnosed with it. Sadly he died at 30 after a fall. Hemophilia is also not always hereditary and can be the result of a spontaneous mutation. This is particularly the case in women who have multiple pregnancies well into adult life and it's believed this may have been what happened to Victoria considering that between the ages of 21 and 38 she was effectively constantly pregnant. Also given that Victoria and Albert were first cousins, the gene pool was more prone to mutations.
But Victoria's hemophilia is hard to trace. Her second daughter (3rd child) Princess Alice was a carrier as her second son had hemophilia and died in childhood and both her grandsons were diagnosed with it. Yet Victoria had three sons after Alice (Arthur, Alfred, and Leopold) and only Leopold had it. Princess Beatrice (Victoria's youngest child) was also a carrier and hemophilia passed along her decedents.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | October 16, 2021 4:38 PM |
Queen Elizabeth II does not descend from any of Queen Victoria's daughters. She descends from Victoria's eldest son, King Edward VII, who did not suffer from hemophilia. Prince Philip, on the other hand, descended from Victoria's second daughter Alice, who was a carrier. Since Philip descends from Victoria in a purely female line, he might have inherited hemophilia, but in fact he did not.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | October 16, 2021 4:39 PM |
Have they been able to trace where the hemophilia came from in their ancestry? Somewhere in the German nobility, I suppose.

by Anonymous | reply 257 | October 16, 2021 5:03 PM |
R256 It's believed that Victoria's hemophilia was actually the product of a spontaneous mutation either in Victoria herself or through her father (who himself was not a hemophiliac) because there is no history of it in Victoria's paternal and material family trees. I think something like 50% of hemophilia cases do not have a previous family history.
Also Queen Elizabeth II doesn't have the hemophilia gene for a simple reason, she descends from the Windsor male line and men cannot pass the gene to their daughters (Edward VII-George V-George VI-Elizabeth) and none of her paternal grandmothers nor her own mother had the gene.

R283 I think William and Kate probably have a good sex life. They seem like that type of couple who don't need PDAs because they are quite affectionate between the sheets.
R286 William was called "Big Willy" by some of his friends when he was at Eaton.
R285 Meghan has an annoyingly "gee golly me" way of speaking that I HATE: basically that type of person who cares more about sounding cool than the actual content of what they are saying. Kate is also not the best public speaker to be honest. Her accent is very middle England that she has tried to posh up and it doesn't work all that well. The Queen isn't a good public speaker either but it's enduring in an odd way because she doesn't care about sound bites she just speaks in generalities.

I agree she looks tired. (and yes, many of us wish we looked that good when tired, but compared to how she usually looks, she looks tired). I suspect she's a more hands-on mum than other royals due to her normal upbringing. I have no doubt she has nannies and house staff, but the Cambridges have had a busy week and she's tired. No more no less. I would be too.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | October 19, 2021 2:33 PM |
I see where the tired argument comes from. Part of the problem is she's got a pudgy face (her father's) and now she's lost weight it amplifies the fact her face is... zoned... for lack of a better word... eyes, upper cheeks, side of her cheeks, etc are all quite pronounced. Her face is not tight or unified, it's the sum of evident parts, and that's probably amplified by being predisposed to being heavier, focusing on thin, with the resulting slight sag.

Her staff was already on the ground in NI when the trip was canceled, something big must of happened for them to pull the plug. She was perky just the night before so within a few hours she just crashed? It may have been something harmless like insomnia or leg cramping? Aside from physical, she needs to be mentally sharp too. Maybe some temporary confusion? After Colin Powell’s death, I’m thinking COVID-19 even though they denied that.

R317 I think it has something to do with her mobility. She is increasingly hunched and you can tell is more tentative when she walks (particularity outdoors). The Sun reported earlier that the Palace is reviewing her winter engagements, focusing on ones that would limit the amount of time she would need to be standing up. I think her legs are weaker tired after two weeks of a slew of engagements, not to mention the night before she was supposed to go to NI she was on her feet constantly for over an hour at a reception at Windsor. I don't think she's at death's door, but she's needing to slow down.
